Field Notes From The Unknown: I'm And I'm Mackenzie. And this is Field Notes from the Unknown, ⁓ a podcast your favorite local cryptid. Mackenzie Hrubey: I would like to talk to you about what I have entitled the sand squatch. casey: The sand squad. Mackenzie Hrubey: Is there more than just sand in the desert southwest? This is the question that we will aim to answer today. casey: Okay. Mackenzie Hrubey: Have you ever heard of Desert Bigfoot? casey: No. I didn't even think there will well I guess I never thought about there being a desert bigfoot. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. Yeah. and some people hypothesize that it's not that Bigfoot lives in desert 'cause deserts are deserts 'cause they get low rainfall, so they're super deserty. ⁓ and therefore they have limited ⁓ food sources to be able to sustain a large creature like that. But ⁓ casey: But there is. Mackenzie Hrubey: In the southwest United States, we have a lot of these mountain chains that are kind of like high mountain chains that end in high desert plateaus, and then between those are stretches of desert. And so I think it follows that if there are creatures living up in those mountains and they're chasing prey, they're gonna follow and occasionally migrate through the desert. So I want to talk about some of those stories today. casey: Yeah. So it's not that he lives in the desert, he's just traveling through. Mackenzie Hrubey: Possibly. but let's casey: But I feel like all of the Bigfoots have been adapted to their place. So I really think it's possible to have a desert Bigfoot. Mackenzie Hrubey: It i would not be surprised. At this point nothing would surprise me. Yeah. So let's go to Arizona first. ⁓ have you been to Arizona before? Gotcha. ⁓ I went w there when I was really little and I remember two things. I remember that the earth was super, super, super red. Like deep red. And then I remember it had a shit ton of lizards. Like so many lizards. Yeah. casey: Yeah. Oof. I've not. Yeah. Dang it. Just running around, lizards. No, we have friends that live out there, but Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. ⁓ Well, you should go visit. I'll come with you and hide in your suitcase to surprise in the middle the night. In my Sasquatch suit. And you'll be like, ⁓ my god, is Bigfoot? And they'll be no, it's just Mackenzie. Yeah. So Arizona has less reports logged in the BFRO from some of our previous regions, but still a healthy amount. They've got 86 logged reports. casey: ⁓ it's just Mackenzie guys. Calm down. Okay. Mackenzie Hrubey: Notable locations where there have been reports include the Woods Canyon Lake as well as the military St. Cole Trail. but I'm gonna take us specifically to a place called the Mogeon Rim. Which sounds like, I don't know, something that would be from like a Star Wars movie. casey: Okay. Moge it really does. Mogee on Rim. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. And I'm gonna talk about the Mogeyan monster. So along the eastern edge of Arizona is a set of mountains and escarpments known as the Mogeyan Rim. It stretches about 200 miles from the top of ⁓ Yavapi County east across Coconino County, Navajo, and Apache counties, towards the border with New Mexico. So the Mogillon Rim is actually the edge of the Colorado Plateau. casey: Okay. Mackenzie Hrubey: Rim has mountains, high desert, as well as these really deep canyons and riverbeds. And you would think that a desert tangential environment would not have a ton of species of animals, but it contains tons of flora and fauna. The fauna are super diverse. ⁓ there's elk, coyote, black bear, bighorn sheep, deer, cougars, beavers, over 20 species of bat. Thousands of insects and a variety of reptiles, including venomous snakes. And the area also has over three thousand species of plants, many of which are unique to the Mogyan Rim. casey: Ooh. Mackenzie Hrubey: Let's go. Let's go. So some people believe that not only is Mochian Rim full of all these varieties of ⁓ plants and animals, but also another man like ape man. So the Mohiyan monster is described as between seven to ten feet tall with long black or reddish brown fur, large glowing red eyes, and a pungent body odor. casey: Let's go. all stinky. They're I mean, I don't blame ⁓ either. There's a lot of hair. Mackenzie Hrubey: They're all stinky. Yeah, give me like two or three days without without a shower and I'm gonna be stinky too. Hang on, I think I think cryptid boyfriend's here with a coffee delivery. casey: Yeah. ⁓ what a wonderful delivery. Mackenzie Hrubey: So much crypto boyfriend. ⁓ thank you, you're so sweet. No problem. Bye bye. And you brought it ⁓ in this ⁓ tentacle mug. casey: Hi Charlie. ⁓ I like the tent. That is cure. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. So with the Mogeyan monster, numerous footprints have been found around this area of Arizona, some of which measure twenty two inches from toe to heel, which is fucking big animal. Yeah. Legendary witnesses report that creatures mimic the sound of other known animals, like coyotes, but also sometimes have whoops and screams that sound like an ape. casey: That is huge. Do you think it it mimics the other animals so that it's trying to lure the other animals in to eat them? That's what I would do. Mackenzie Hrubey: I do. I really think that's what it is. Yeah. I also think that it's a it's a primate behavior to mimic sounds as well, kinda like how birds mimic. So I think it's both of those. casey: I mean So does the knot deer. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, so does the Knock Deer. the other thing the Mogian monster does that the Knock Deer also does, is it's said to decapitate deer. casey: Really? I think this is the first Bigfoot where they're actually like decapitating things. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yep, yep, yep, yep. Yeah. ⁓ this area region is where some of that more maybe more violent stories come out, with people finding like deer carcasses where ⁓ the neck appears twisted off like a big old corkscrew. casey: I mean and a big foot strong enough to do that. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. And this is probably better suited to our summary episode, but one of there's a theme in some of the encounters that you hear from hunters when you're like listening to Sasquatch Chronicles or something. ⁓ with W Wes Grimer. Shout out to Wes Grimer. Hey Wes, you should listen. He was not gonna listen. He has the most popular Sasquatch ⁓ podcast out there. casey: Mm-hmm. Hey Wes. Yeah. He's got bigger things to do. Mackenzie Hrubey: But some of the themes in the episodes that you hear from hunters are they'll be going after a deer and they'll encounter a Bigfoot with a deer over its its shoulder that it just caught, and they'll break the legs when they catch it, and then they're gonna pop the head off to eat it. Yep. casey: So it's a lot it breaks its legs while it's still alive. That poor dear. Mackenzie Hrubey: It's a little gruesome. It's a little gruesome. Yeah. Hmm? casey: Could you imagine the howl and cry that that deer's gonna make? Mackenzie Hrubey: That's what you gotta eat. casey: I understand, but does it like really crave warm, fresh blood? Mackenzie Hrubey: I think the Mokian monster does. Yep. Yep. casey: Yeah, like damn. I think he might be a little vampiric. Mackenzie Hrubey: Well, so the oldest written encounter from the Mogian Monster was in nineteen ⁓ three, that was published in the Arizona Republican, yuck, by I. W. Stevens, who described a white Bigfoot with a beard down to its knees, that he witnessed drinking the blood of a slain cougar before chasing Stevens out of the area. casey: A white bigfoot. Mackenzie Hrubey: ⁓ white big fat. casey: Huh, stained in red blood? That's fucking nightmare fuel. Mackenzie Hrubey: Y yeah, that's it's fucking it's fucking ⁓ metal. It's ⁓ pretty metal. ⁓ casey: Alright, alright, so maybe Bigfoot's a vampire? Mackenzie Hrubey: Maybe Muggy Monster is a big piece of vampire. Maybe it's just a this is the adoption to the desert. He now drinks blood. A more modern report comes from Don Davis, who stated that he witnessed the creature while he was out on a Boy Scout trip, ⁓ sometime in the in the like the I think it was the sixties or seventies, ⁓ near the town of Peason, Arizona. He says the creature was huge, its eyes were deep set and hard to see, but they seemed expressionless. casey: Yeah. This is the adap Yeah. Mackenzie Hrubey: Serial killer. I added that last part. casey: I mean, he's I don't want him to feel any emotion if he's doing this. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. His face seemed pretty much devoid of hair, but there seemed to be hair along the sides of the face. His chest, shoulders, and arms were massive, especially the upper arms, easily upwards of six inches in diameter, perhaps much, much more. I could see that he was pretty hairy, but didn't observe really how thick the body hair was, and the face head were very square, square sides and squared up chin like a box. And this one this one was not white. casey: That is insane. Mackenzie Hrubey: Uh-huh. So we the blood sucking Mogian monster up in Arizona. Let's go to New Mexico. casey: Hold on. Back to this encounter. Did the did the Mogeon monster ever try and attack humans? Mackenzie Hrubey: All right. All right. It's definitely chased humans. ⁓ the Mogia monster seems to be at least per some of these encounters, kind of prone to violent outbursts. ⁓ but I mean yeah, to be fair, we don't hear stories of people that didn't make it out. So casey: You don't say. ⁓ I I mean okay, yeah, how would we tell that well, if it's a group of campers and then one just doesn't make it out. Mackenzie Hrubey: Well, you have to think that if there's an animal that has the strength to, you know, twist a deer head off, do the same have you seen the fucking ⁓ Twenty Eight Years Later? casey: Yeah the yes. Yes, the alpha one yeah. Yeah. I Mackenzie Hrubey: That's what I think about. Yeah. Samsen. Yeah, CM Sen just ⁓ you know. That's what the Mogian monster does. casey: I actually never finished that one yet because I was not a huge fan of Samson. Mackenzie Hrubey: Really? This was scary or casey: Yeah, I don't know. I haven't finished it yet. No, I just didn't like it. Like I just didn't like the character. And I ha Mackenzie Hrubey: ⁓ the notion they came out with, the bone temple, is like they developed Simpson a little bit more, it's kinda cool. casey: I hear Ooh, ⁓ I hear good things about the Bone Temple. I'm gonna have to rewatch it. Mackenzie Hrubey: Give it a try. The Bone Temple, I hated the humans in it. The humans were hoo hoo horrible. That was really hard to watch. I I had to skip a lot of it 'cause I couldn't watch it. casey: Nothing's gonna beat the OG one. The original one twenty eight days later. Which is great. I love that one. ⁓ all right, back to a blood sucking neck twisting Mackenzie Hrubey: No. That was a really good me too. Muy bien monster. I'd like to take you to New Mexico. Are you ready? casey: Mogia monster. I'm ready. Mackenzie Hrubey: So New Mexico also has more sparse Bigfoot reports, at least in in the BFRO, ⁓ forty four reports. But I think part of that is a lot of the hotspots for Sasquatching Toronto in this state cluster ⁓ in areas with Native American people. A a lot of whom well we'll we'll we'll get into it, but some of the hotspots are ⁓ casey: Okay. Mackenzie Hrubey: Hemes, Sangre de Cristo, and Chuska mountain ranges, ⁓ Cloudcroft, New Mexico, and conceptually areas in New Mexico that are called sky or cloud islands. So New Mexico is mostly flat desert, but kind of like Arizona, there are pockets of these plateaus or high mountains. So they kind of pop out of the desert out of nowhere, these like big old mountains. So they're called sky or cloud islands. casey: Mm-hmm. Mackenzie Hrubey: And they s tend to be green ⁓ year-round, get more rainfall, ⁓ have a lot more prey items to sustain something like a Sasquatch, ⁓ and it follows that a lot of the reports come out of those areas. casey: ⁓ yeah, I would see I could see that. So did like people avoid these areas, like the Native Americans? Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. So Yeah, yeah. So let's talk about the Saswatch and the Navajo. This is kind of a fraught history. So Navajo living in the Navajo Nation in and around Fruitland in Kirkland, New Mexico, on the banks of the San Juan River, have a legend of a creature called the Yeti Iso. so casey: Smart. Okay. Mackenzie Hrubey: I obviously don't speak Navajo, so I'm so sorry if I butchered that, but I believe the compounds of the words are ape and man, but somewhere in there is also God. So they saw and see Bigfoot kind of like a mix of an ape and a man that has like supernatural powers and the ability to like cause bad things to happen. So Stories from the Navajo are challenging to get because there's this common belief that speaking about things like the Yeti Iso gives them power. ⁓ and by speaking about Sasquatch, you'll bring more encounters to yourself. casey: Interesting. So just kinda like if you say the actual not dear's name. Mackenzie Hrubey: Mm. Or the flesh ambulator actual you can bring it to you. They think about the same thing with the Sasquatch. casey: Your Yeah. Mackenzie Hrubey: But we're lucky there's one researcher who is kind of famous in the Bigfoot landscape, ⁓ named Brandon. casey: Do you think it'll be the same if I say I wanna be haunted by a ghost? I wanna be haunted by a ghost. I wanna be haunted by a ghost. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, I think so. Yeah. Yeah. We should get you more antique furniture that has a ghost in it. casey: I'm t I'm telling ya. Mackenzie Hrubey: Maybe some more antique mirrors. This seems casey: There's one it sticks with me. There was one point in my life where I had an antique Ouija board in my person at the antique store. I was going to buy it. And then I got scared. And I regret it so much. Mackenzie Hrubey: Ouija I know that Ouija boards were a parlor game so that, you know, kids could touch angles underneath the table and touch fingertips and a time when like kissing wasn't allowed. Like I get that, but I also think that spirits are real and like use anything as a portal and so I fuck with Ouija boards. casey: ⁓ yeah. ⁓ huh. I I think about it so much. Alright, anyway, back to the story. Mackenzie Hrubey: You go, you go. So one one Navajo researcher that has done a lot for the subject is Brenda Harris, who founded a group known as Shadow Seekers. So Finding Bigfoot when they went to New Mexico, were working with Brenda Harris and ⁓ another member of the Shadow Seekers whose name is Jesus, but they referred to him the whole time as quote unquote a man named Jesus, which just Like they never said Jesus or Jesus, they just the whole time they said a man named Jesus Like that was his full government name. Hilarious. So Brenda Harris first heard of Bigfoot from a radio broadcast where the speakers said, Stay away from the San Juan River. There's a monster down there. casey: Okay. ⁓ my Okay. Mackenzie Hrubey: Years later, she left her home near the San Juan in Upper Fruitland one morning to discover an 18-inch bear footprint in her yard. What followed that was numerous reports from her neighbors of livestock being killed and eaten, strange screams being heard from the waterway at night, and even some people claimed they saw a large, seven to nine foot tall, hairy man looking into their windows at night. Yeah. No. casey: Close the curtains, make sure the couch isn't along the window. We learned that in a c yeah. Okay? We we learned our lesson. Couches do not go back against the window and pull those curtains. Okay? Mackenzie Hrubey: You won't be grabbing the line. Mm-hmm. Nope. Yep. Yep. One night Brenda was outside with her sister when they began hearing the sound of heavy footfalls coming in their direction. The footsteps grew closer and closer until suddenly a creature appeared over the rise. Harris describes it as being huge, with very, very long hair. It was dark brown to black in color, had no neck, and what appeared to be a cone shaped head. not like strict cone, but like conical head at the back of it, which is another pretty common ape trait that we'll talk about more in Saskatour summary. Yeah. No. No, not like that. She said it looked like a bodybuilder, but huge and hairy. After real life casey: It's like cone heads. ⁓ I'm thinking of I'm thinking of Cone Heads, the Aliens, the movie. I mean He could be a bodybuilder. Mackenzie Hrubey: Are you having are you getting all hot and bothered by a bodybuilder Bigfoot? casey: I'm thinking of all the Bigfoots getting together at a bodybuilder competition. So in another universe, all the Bigfoots live like humans, you know, some go to work, y you don't know. And some bite be bodybuilders. Mackenzie Hrubey: I just imagine like body but like Bigfoot's getting swole off of like inject like injectable testosterone like stuff that people made in some fucking back alley lab. I gotta get my drugs, man. Give me my drugs. casey: They're not even gonna have to get they're not even gonna They don't even have to get tan. They're already all dark. So Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, they c can totally skip that. Besides, like I feel like all the hair would mess with the spray tan. Yeah. They would absolutely sweep the competitions. casey: Yeah. I yeah. In another universe there's probably a competition going on right now. So Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, probably. I would love to see it. That's what I'm gonna be wishing into into reality is a bodybuilding bigfoot competition. casey: Ooh, best Bigfoot Bodybuilder costume. Mackenzie Hrubey: ⁓ I could be sexy Bigfoot and Charlie could be bodybuilding Bigfoot. Or Charlie could be sexy Bigfoot and I could be bodybuilding Bigfoot. casey: Right. Ooh, yeah. Look, you can't tell me some some of these cosplayers have excellent talent in making their costumes. So I know it can be done. Mackenzie Hrubey: Mm-hmm. You just wait, you just wait, I'm gonna sprite her. casey: I can't wait. Mackenzie Hrubey: So back to Brenda on this night with her sister. After the creature whipped spotted, it did a really interesting thing. It dropped down to all fours and took off in like a really Yeah in a really fast spider crawl. casey: ⁓ no No Absolutely not. That is fucking creepy. Mackenzie Hrubey: This is something that you also hear a lot in encounters is whenever they're on all fours, they move extremely fast and they don't they don't crawl like you expect them to crawl, they crawl like a fucking spider. casey: It's so fucking well you You think how how their stance is now when they're on two fucking legs. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. And the other thing is they don't when they crawl, they're up on their fingertips and their toes. But they're they're up on their fingers and toes. They don't go like on their pads. And they're fucking freted on. casey: I have goosebumps because that's so fucking creepy. Ugh. And they're just watching this? Like what the fuck, Brenda? Go in the house. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, they did. The creature disappeared in the night and then Brenda and the sister went inside, but Brenda Harris estimates that creature was up to twelve feet tall. casey: I'm sorry. Alright, you know what? ⁓ sell your house. In fact, you know what? Burn it down. No one deserves to live there anymore with that thing. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yup. Yup. Yup. And she's been quoted as saying something along the lines of every single person in the Navajo Nation has seen Bigfoot. Every single fucking person, especially in for the in upper Fortland. They just don't talk about it. casey: That is so fucking creepy. I would I I mean I wouldn't Mackenzie Hrubey: I'm sorry y'all it's already there. Like, talk about it. You can't make it be there more 'cause it's already fucking there. casey: Yeah, but like if you're gonna talk about it it's gonna show. It's like giving it some kind of spiritual power. It's like, ⁓ you want me? Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, but it I think this is the crux of the issue with Reports that are New Mexico is it comes from these areas, but they don't talk about it to report it. So you don't see the reports pop up and stuff like B F R O casey: I d if I saw something crawling on all fours towards me like that, I don't know if I'd want to talk about it either. One because I feel like people might put me in a psych wart. Mackenzie Hrubey: That's fair. That's totally fair. Have I got a software? One time okay, next time we're together, we're gonna listen to an episode of Sasquatch Chronicles with the spider crawl, 'cause I just I need you to experience it with me. Alright, so stay tuned. So since that night, Harris and the rest of the Shadowseekers have ⁓ done tons of eyewitness interviews. ⁓ including one account of a family who had their rabbits being stolen and eaten. it would eat casey: Okay. We can do that. Mackenzie Hrubey: the whole rabbit, but sometimes leave like pieces. but the rabbits were in like a hutch that required like human hands to open the hutch. casey: I mean, I feel like you know still very fresh how animals can get into cages. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. Yes, I believe that their hutch was better enforced than the hutch that had my poor quails before the raccoon ate my quails. Yes, it is still it it haunts me. casey: Well you can always get more. Avenge them. Mackenzie Hrubey: I will I'm gonna get button quail or even smaller. casey: That'd be cute. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, super cute. So I know, I know. And something kinda cool, shadow seekers have actually collected blood and hair samples. all of which have been sent to North Carolina State University where Darby Orcutt is leading ⁓ a DNA investigation that we'll talk about more in our summary episode. A little We're gonna circle back to it 'cause that's that's probably the best chance of quote unquote discovery that we've got right now. casey: Poor rabbits. Didn't we talk about that last one? That in the last episode? Yeah. Mackenzie Hrubey: So over time, Brenda Harris has come to the following to hold the following beliefs about Bigfoot in New Mexico. One, they travel between the river and the mountains that are up to that ⁓ northwest part of New Mexico. and they enjoy collecting corn and melons during the harvest season. I mean same. Look at that girl. Lucy! casey: Yeah. Mackenzie Hrubey: They smell terrible, like musk and rotting meat. They are most often seen at night. They are attracted to women, children, and the sounds of laughter. This one's interesting. They are interdimensional beings. casey: Okay. Mackenzie Hrubey: So back to how Yeti Iso is there's a paranormal connotation to that name, that's a very novel belief that they are in fact air dimensional. so man but not man. casey: I mean, I am still very sure that the aliens and Bigfoot are connected. Mackenzie Hrubey: I don't know, I don't know, I don't wanna go I don't I don't know. I b I would I Yeah. I d the other interesting thing that can be gleaned from Brenda Harris and New Mexico is Bigfoots are scared away by life. So if you install big ass light like so if you install big ass lights around your yard Yeah. Then y you probably will keep them away. But I mean if you wanna see a sas watch then maybe casey: We n we know how I feel. By light or l ⁓ Like floodlights, yeah. Obviously don't put the light up. Disconnect it. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. So yeah, that's that's New Mexico. I've got one more desert region to go through, but do you have any commentary on New Mexico before we go there? casey: This one's actually a little bit nicer, I think, than the bloodsucking one, but still not that nice. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, Mogam Mogam Rem's kind of intense. That that one's a little intense. casey: But I mean that one didn't fucking get down on all fours and chase me. So I sh you know, I don't know. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. Yeah. I think any any South Gouach is capable of going on all fours and doing the fucking spider crawl thing. Yeah. Yeah. I just think about like have you ever seen like a video of like a a big old male silverback running? Like how they get down and they kinda run like that. Really it's like that, but like a lot smoother and just i in a way that you would not expect something quite that large to move. casey: Ugh. Yes. 'Cause but I don't think anything that large should move like that. Mackenzie Hrubey: Ha ha casey: Where are we going to next? Mackenzie Hrubey: We're going to go to Southeast California. So not that far at all from huge metropolitan areas like LA and San Diego. We have a surprising amount of Sasquatch reports. Now I don't have a number for you because California is a huge hotspot, but I didn't want to sit there and calculate all the counties, you know, south of LA and give you what that was. That ⁓ I'm sorry guys, you can do that if you want. You might be surprised. But some casey: Okay. Yeah, yes. Mackenzie Hrubey: Concentrated areas in Southeast California are around Fresno or Tulare County, Kern County, the San Bernardino Mountains, the San Gabriel Mountains, the San Diego County Foothills, Riverside, Escondido, and then a big one is the Southern Sierras. Sasquatch here is huge. So there are a bunch of regional names that maybe, you know, the ones we don't touch on we might dig into later. But Cement Monster, the Sierra Spy, the Sierra Highway Devil, Old Blue Eyes, Harry Devils, the Speedway Monster, the Barrego Sandman, and the Yucca Man. casey: Monster. Is that also with the Burego Triangle? Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. So let's go to Brego first, now that you brought that up. casey: Yes. You know how I like triangles. It's a thing. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, and Brago is a fucking weird one. So Anzobrago Desert State Park is a strange place. It encloses 650,000 acres near the town of Brago Springs, California. Anzobrago has beautiful scenery, but is also a hot spot for what they like to call high strangeness. ⁓ not only is it fantastic for fossil hunters. casey: Yeah. Mackenzie Hrubey: ⁓ due to like a ton of fossils being dug up out of there, but also paranormal enthusiasts. People see UAPs, they see strange lights, and they see cryptids. Like our favorite hairy hominid. So sightings go back to Native American people who warned colonial settlers about a nine to ten foot tall hairy devil Not roam the desert. 1876 or 78, there is a prospector named Turner Helm ⁓ was attempting to find gold in a place in the Anzobrago Desert called Dead Man's Hole. ⁓ he encountered a massive hairy creature ⁓ he described as an ape man with shaggy white hair. It didn't drink blood. But casey: Okay, this one didn't drink blood. That you know what? It's already a little bit better. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. Al allegedly the creature was quite docile. ⁓ and i they were just sitting there for hours at his camp, kinda looking at each other. but Helm was a jackass and eventually got frightened. He scared himself, and then he shot his rifle into the sky because of course he did, and scared off the animal. In nineteen thirty-nine casey: She did. Mackenzie Hrubey: Another prospector was out in the desert trying to find gold, when he was scared out by a group of hairy white ape men. And I think casey: You know do the Wait, you said a group? We never really touched one them traveling in packs like that. Mackenzie Hrubey: It's less common. ⁓ definitely less common that people see multiple at once, but it's not unheard of. ⁓ and actually that's not the only encounter with the group we're gonna talk about today. casey: Ooh, okay. Mackenzie Hrubey: I mean, in the great in the Great Apes pantheon, so to speak, apes are definitely social creatures. ⁓ so doesn't surprise me that you would see multiple at once. I feel like a lot of times when we see these big sasquatches out there, it's probably an alpha male ⁓ that's trying to scare off a family group. But that's speculation and we'll dive more into that perhaps as well later. casey: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Interesting. Mackenzie Hrubey: So in nineteen sixty four, a father and son encountered a creature again who hurled rocks at the pair, chasing them out. casey: I love when they throw rocks. Mackenzie Hrubey: And I know, I know, another weird thing that I'm uncomfy but you're gonna frickin' love. Native Americans also say that the hairy devils in this region could at will turn into glowing orbs of green light. casey: Yeah. I told you they were aliens. Mackenzie Hrubey: A I don't like it. I don't like it. I don't like it. I don't like it. But I'm here to tell you the story. I just I don't know. I think they're flesh and blood. casey: that. I love that. They can still be flesh and blood when they want to be flesh and blood, or they can be an orb. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. All right. casey: That is so cool. Now, every orb that I've seen in my life, is it actually an orb or is it just a big foot bigfoot in a different transformation? Mackenzie Hrubey: No one knows casey: I love that. Mackenzie Hrubey: So that's the Borrego Sandman. Let's talk about the Yucca Man. casey: The yucca man. Alright. Mackenzie Hrubey: So for this portion, I relied heavily on a really great ⁓ YouTube video I found by Cryptids Across the Atlas who did a great expose on this. So shout out to them. So ⁓ the Yucca is to be a seven to nine foot tall ⁓ bipedal creature with massive ⁓ and log shaggy sand ⁓ hair. People have reported encounter encounters in Apple Valley, Big Bear, and Joshua Joshua Tree of a similar creature. But perhaps the most interesting report was from 1955, where something was spotted on the Fontana Motor Speedway. So this was a speedway for drag racing that was made out in the desert. And it was a huge draw at the time. It's not closed. But in nineteen fifty-five, over two thousand people witnessed a huge shaggy creature walking on the edge of the speedway. And this happened again and again dozens of times throughout the fifties and the sixties. ⁓ but when people would go out to try to meet the creature, it would disappear into the desert. casey: What if it was a ghost? Mackenzie Hrubey: Ik verkaust. casey: Yeah, what if it was a Bigfoot ghost? And it's like it got it got killed by one of the drag cars. Now I'm making a story. Mackenzie Hrubey: Possible. ⁓ I like it. I like it and it's a cover up. It's a big cover up and that's why the font can a motor speed like casey: It's a b it's a huge cover up. Mackenzie Hrubey: huge because the Bigfoot was huge. And somewhere out there you can find the buried remains of that Sasquatch. Let's go. Let's fucking go. Let's dig up the desert. casey: Yeah. Let's f let's go. We're gonna all of it. All of it. Yeah. I am actually now gonna start an excavation company. Switch career paths. Mackenzie Hrubey: We're gonna excavate the whole the whole thing. Yeah. That's great. I love that. A good idea. Yeah. Do it. Twitch your switch your degree. To excavation. I'm getting a master's of excavation. Thank you very much. Digging myself into a deeper and deeper hole every day. casey: Yeah, to excavation. I I think I might just be able to switch my degree to like archaeology. ⁓ and then also, you know, just dig everything up. Mackenzie Hrubey: So another interesting encounter from the Yucca Man was at Twenty Nine Palms Military Post. There was a story about a soldier who was out on night watch when he encountered a creature with deep, heavy breathing outside of his post. He went to investigate and was bluff charged by what he described as a massive hairy creature. He passed out. From fear. Yeah. And then he was discovered by his fellow Marines the next morning. He was fine, but the rifle he had been holding was bent literally in half. casey: Yeah, I don't know. That that'll do it. Could you imagine how like you just pass out and like that Bigfoot's that close to you where it actually gets a hold of your weapon? Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, the force that that would take too is incredible. casey: That's like chills. And then all like you're just passed out, so you have no fucking idea if he like picked up your arm and was inspecting you. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, you have no fucking idea what happened. casey: And since he's an alien, he probably like probed you with something. So this guy probably has like marks on the back behind his ear. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, he should really check all of his birthmarks and like see or like if he's got like that small heart scar, it's probably got like a thing in it. All right. So I've got one final account from Southern California for you. You ready? casey: He really should check everything. Yeah. I'm ready. Mackenzie Hrubey: This modern So on march seventeenth of twenty seventeen Claudia Ackley and her daughter, residents of Crestline, California, were hiking near Blue Jay in the San Bernardino Mountains, when they spotted something odd about 30 feet up in a tree. What they described was a cross between an ape and a Neanderthal. After spotting the creature, she and the girl also spotted two additional creatures they believed were part of the same family group. Ackley was so alarmed that she contacted a park ranger to report the incident after they got the heck out of there. The State Natural Resources Agency told her that what she saw was a bear. Ackley, unsatisfied with that response, filed a lawsuit with the state of California in January 2018 ⁓ against the California Fish and Wildlife Service, as well as the State Natural Resources Agency. casey: Yes. Mackenzie Hrubey: Demanding that the state of California recognize Sasquatch as a living species in order to protect public safety of people out on hiking trails. casey: Well, there's another state that has it as a protected species, right? 'Cause we tal yeah. Mackenzie Hrubey: There's actually a couple. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Yep. So the lawsuit got a lot of publicity. It was later dismissed that same year, but I mean, that was nine years ago. You know, that is super recent. casey: Did this one go through? Do it again. Try try it again. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. Look, that's good. Come on. We gotta get that species recognized. casey: Come on, you it they can tell you no so many times, but you know what, you gotta keep trying. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah, yep. So that is the sand squatch. casey: I think this one might be my new favourite, one now. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. Is it 'cause of the drinking blood monster? casey: Yeah, yeah, I kinda like all of them. They're all it's different these ones the sand ones are very different and weird. Mackenzie Hrubey: They're fun, yeah. The they're a bit more paranormal, which I know you love. Yeah. casey: Yeah. And I yeah. I think that's why I love the like, yeah. Mackenzie Hrubey: Yeah. So believability scale five. Yeah. casey: Five five five five I think I've given them all fives I yeah the orbs the this one's got me. Mackenzie Hrubey: You know what? Two for pure normal, five for flesh and blood. My dog. Alright. Awesome. casey: Alright guys, I believe that is it for us today. ⁓ you can find us at Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, Apple. Check the links in our bio. And we'll see you next week. Let us know what you would rate the Sand Squatch. Bye. Mackenzie Hrubey: Thank you. Bye.
