AJ and Erika: Your personality type and what motivates you has a big impact on your running journey and how you not only show up for yourself, but with others as well. Today we're kicking off a three-part miniseries where we're going to explore all online personality types of the Ineagram. Hey there, friends. Welcome to episode number 49 of One More Run the Podcast. I know we say this every time, but my name's AJ. I'm America. And we host this thing for you to feel confident, prepared, inspired, maybe even just entertained on a long run. We we create this so that you hopefully you take something away from it. But we also like we understand, like sometimes you just need something to listen to and why not run Disney? That's right. You know, ⁓ today is not gonna be Run Disney focused, but it really is gonna help, in my opinion. Yeah. Whether you're familiar with what we're talking about, the Enneagram and personality types or not. We think that this is really going to be valuable. So ⁓ I know that anytime somebody says, you know, just give it a try. Don't judge it, but don't knock it before you try it. I know that's like a disclaimer for like it's not going to be good, but give this a try because it is not running focused, but it really, really, really will help. Another goal of these episodes is that we want to give you some common language that you can use with fellow runners and we want to normalize some things that you might be tempted to think, I'm the only one. We really want this to be helpful and encouraging, especially as we kick off a new training season soon. So before we dive into that, Erica, let's do some housekeeping things real fast. We love to read reviews on the podcast. Would you mind reading today's Apple Podcast review? Yes. This one comes from the big Sajowski. I know who this is. ⁓ okay. He says, came across this podcast when looking for some videos on Ren Disney registration in preparation for Marathon Weekend. I was super impressed with the video and that led me to the podcast, socials, etc. My wife and I really enjoy listening to the podcast throughout the year as we look forward to the next event. They have some great guests and information, some things I haven't seen elsewhere. AJ and Erica have very likable personalities as well. Keep up the great work. Awesome. Thank you. Thank you so much. Yep. We really appreciate that. And he loves the podcast so much he signed up. He was one of the first people to sign up for our support crew. So thanks for watching. That's awesome. Thanks so much. All right. Let's talk about our upcoming topic. Today we're kicking off the personality series. There are a total of nine personality types as part of the Enneagram, and we're going to tackle three types each week. Today are the givers, achievers, and romantics. Next week will be the analysts, loyalists, and enthusiasts. Before we dive in with today's guests, we do want to provide you with a little bit of background to understand the tool that we're using. ⁓ basically it's a personality typing system. You you've probably heard of the disk assessment and Myers Briggs and there's colored ones, you know, whatever. This one is called. The Enneagram in this framework, like Erica just said, there are nine personality types. And what it is is you're most, you're you're dominantly one of the nine. Right. Right. That doesn't mean you won't take on characteristics of the others. Like you might, you know, you might ⁓ be one of the other numbers that's kind of close to your number a lot of the times, right? Or you might go to a different number if you're stressed out, right? Or if you're feeling safe and secure. So it's not that like you're a two, it's not that you can only exhibit characteristics of a two. Right. You're just most people dominantly one number. Right. But there's lots of things, you know, like our past, our hurts, our, you know, external factors in our life. They all play a big role in how our number might change or ⁓ you know, change as we grow or all the things, right? Like I understand there is no like, okay, here's so and so, you know, here's Jack. Jack is only a five. You know what I mean? Like, no, I understand, you know, that we can't just put people in a box like that. So all of that to say don't be overwhelmed. Once you hear kind of like a short description of the nine types, I believe you're totally going to understand how the Enneagram works. Yeah. Just factor in. Yes, we understand nuances, right? We understand you've got stuff going on. ⁓ Erica, I thought it'd be helpful if we give a quick overview, like one sentence of the nine types. And today we're covering the twos, threes, and fours, but we're just here's what the numbers are. People can at least have a tiny view into ooh, that kind of sounds like me. Or that sounds like my spouse. Right. Or, you know, my boss is definitely that number. Yeah. You know. So you cool if we just do that real quick and then we'll get in ⁓ with talking with our friends who are the the twos, threes, and fours. Perfect. All right. So ⁓ we'll go through it real quick. The type one is called the perfectionist. ⁓ and some of you are already like, yep, that's me. ⁓ they're also called the reformer. These people ⁓ are ethical, they're dedicated, they're reliable, they're motivated by the desire to do things the right way. ⁓ Justice is a big word for them. ⁓ they want to improve the world and they want to avoid fault and blame. Yes. That is high level. There's so many different things in that, but that's the one. Right. All right. Next is the type two, which is me. That is the helper, or sometimes they're called the giver. Usually the two is warm, caring, and giving. They are motivated by a need to be loved and needed and to avoid acknowledging their own needs. And that is you. I'm a type three. And the three is called the performer, also known as the achiever. ⁓ we threes are success-oriented, image conscious, and wired for productivity. ⁓ they're motivated by a need, or at least appear to be successful and avoid failure. And that appear to be is a big is a big deal for the three. You know, ⁓ the difference between the one and the three, like the one wants to do things because it's right and just, the three wants to do things and look good doing it. Right. So we might look Like like from the outside, you might confuse the one and the three. It's our motivation. Right. That's the factor. Totally. Right. Not just our actions. Yes. Yes. Next up is the type four. This is the romantic or the individualist. They are creative, sensitive, and moody. They are motivated by need to be understood. Experience their oversights, feelings, and avoid being ordinary. Yep. ⁓ type five is the investigator/slash analyst. They're analytical, ⁓ they're Private. They're ⁓ motivated by a need to gain knowledge, conserve energy, and avoid relying on others. They definitely want to know how and they want to do it themselves. Right. Yeah. Next is type six. They are the loyalists. They are committed, practical, and witty. They are worst-case scenario thinkers who are motivated by fear and the need for security. They do not like change. Correct. That is the thing with the six. The seven is the enthusiast. And Run Disney is full of enthusiasts. They're fun, spontaneous, adventurous, and they're motivated by a need to be happy. Does that sound like any Run Disney runners you'd have? A lot of Run Disney runners, I know. Yep. ⁓ they want stimulating experiences and they want to avoid pain. So maybe Dopey Runners are not sevens because you get a lot of pain in Dopey. Next up is type eight, which is the challenger. They are commanding, intense, and confrontational. They're usually motivated by a need to be strong and avoid feeling weak or vulnerable. Yes. And you're going to hear me throughout this series say that that sound the eights get a lot of bad rap for sounding negative because we all just assume those are negative qualities. But the greatest leaders have been classified as like an eight. Yes. Right. They get stuff done. Type nine, this is the last one, is the peacemaker. They're pleasant, laid back, and accommodating. They're motivated by a need to keep the peace. And merge with others and avoid conflict. Perfect. So the nine types are actually sorted into three groups called triads. And that's exactly how we're going to organize these episodes. So today we're going to start with the type twos, threes, and fours, which are all in the heart triad or the feeling triad. And then next week we'll move on to the thinkers and you know the head triad. Yeah, like we'll move on. But that's how we're going to organize everything. Perfect. There are lots of Enneagram assessments online and those are all fine. But if you want to dive into the Enneagram and learn more about your type and the types of those in your life, we highly recommend reading The Road Back to You by Ian Morgan Cron. It's a great book. And my it's if you look it up on Amazon, it's orange and black. You know, if you ⁓ it's you said it was on an audio book recently. It's totally worth it. Yeah. ⁓ it's a great resource. And we're pulling all of our language and everything for this series from that book. Yeah. Okay. Erica, you ready? Let's dive in with the givers. Achievers and romantics. Perfect. All right, friends, this is super exciting. We've got friends on the podcast. Yes, we do. I literally, Erica, you and I are the only, like we only represent two numbers of the Enneagram. So we needed some help. So we've invited some help, some good friends, new friends, all the things. And I'm super excited about it. Do you want to? I think we should introduce everybody before we dive into the questions and all that. You want to start? Yes, perfect. So the first person that we have today is Elizabeth. She is a two, which is the helperslash giver. Twos generally are warm, caring, and giving. They are motivated by a need to be loved and needed and to avoid acknowledging their own needs. Elizabeth, does that sound like you? Yes. To a T. That's I get it. That's me too. Welcome to the podcast. Thank you. Elizabeth, you're East Coast like us, right? Yeah, South Carolina. Perfect. So we can All have monogrammed stuff and say y'all and drink sweet tea together. Absolutely. That's awesome. Candace is on the show. Candace is a three, and you're gonna know Candace's name because she is Magic Hatterco. That's We have ⁓ talked about at length before. So I won't keep ⁓ hammering that, but ⁓ video-wise, you'll see she's rocking one of her own hats. The three is the achiever or the performer. I am also a three. Threes are success-oriented, image conscious, and wired for productivity. They're motivated by a need. To be or at least appear to be successful and avoid failure. Candace, that's not you at all, is it? Not even a little bit. It's a hundred percent me. Yeah. Yeah. So you you are three. ⁓ what part of the country do you live in? You're not here on our side, right? Nope. I'm in Idaho. Mountain time. Perfect. Do we care about mountain time? ⁓ dang it. ⁓ There, I have the first blooper. Nobody cares what time zone I'm in. Okay. It's all good now. We need it. I'm in red. Okay. The d like a true three. She had to avoid the failure. Yeah, I've seen it. You know what I mean? I love it. It's already on display. Already on display. Ryan is also a three. Ryan, does this idea of being success oriented, making sure you look like you know what you're doing and avoiding failure at all costs? Does that sound like you? Absolutely. Three thousand percent. Three thousand percent. See, like a true three. It can't be a hundred percent. It has to be it has to be I only went with a hundred. That's ⁓ right. Ryan, what part of the country do you live in? Where you from? ⁓ originally Virginia, but Charleston, South Carolina is where I call home. ⁓ Elizabeth is from South Carolina. Awesome. Gotta represent and hold it down. Yeah. ⁓ yeah. That's awesome. Our last guest is Mary Faith. She is a four, which is the romantic individualist. Fours are creative, they are motivated by a need to be understood, experience their oversized feelings, and avoid being ordinary. Mary, does this sound like you? It does. Fours want to be authentic and no description will ever be perfect. So, yes, that that does sound like mostly me. I was gonna say that sounds like a really good four description, right there. Yes. Cool. Well, welcome everybody to the podcast. We're so excited. Thank you for helping us learn more about ⁓ numbers that are not just ours. ⁓ and so we're super excited about this. We're gonna throw out the question. If you've got an answer, feel free to jump in ⁓ or we can direct a question at you. So here's first question: When did you discover your Enneagram type? I know the Enneagram is like a specific, you know, typing system and all that stuff. When did you discover your type? And what was your reaction when you saw how it described you? Ryan, you wanna start us off? Sure. The first time that I actually came across it and went through the the test was back in college going through a couple of different psychology classes and I did it, just brushed it off, didn't think anything of it. And it wasn't until I started dating my now wife, who's a psychiatrist, that she kind of jumped full steam ahead. And once I did it again, it just kinda clicked, you know, that is me. You know, I the big goal setter and have to get ⁓ Yeah, super competitive by nature and you know, have to hit that mark or I feel like I left something on the table for sure. Perfect. ⁓ who else wants to go? Anybody else want to talk about their first experience with Enigram? I found out mine on my flight to Springtime surprise. ⁓ yeah, cool. That's so that's recent for you. Yep, but I have been to a lot of therapy. So ⁓ not surprised. Yeah, it didn't surprise me at all. Did anybody else have that weird, like, how does this thing know me so well vibe? Like that's that was my reaction. So I found out mine actually when you sent me the test. Yeah. And I I had heard of the test before and I had taken other personality tests. And so it came to no surprise to me when it told me that I was a helper and a giver and a type two, because all these other personality tests that I had taken in the past, whether it was you're this color or you're this kind of person, it all led to the same conclusion. That's awesome. I knew you were a two from the way we had interacted online, which is why I sent you a message. So I sent you and you were like, No, I don't know what I am, but I'll find out, which was pretty awesome. ⁓ Mary, ⁓ when did you find out about your Enneagram number? ⁓ it was probably about 10 years ago that I found out. And it was by listening to a podcast, actually. ⁓ a podcast about the Enneagram. And I listened to different people talk about their numbers. And I just got curious and just started finding, you know, reading books and finding out more about it. That's awesome. Was that the typology podcast with Ian Morgan Cron by chance or no? Yes. We love that podcast. That's how I discovered my number two, Mary. We were in the car, we listened to a panel of twos, and I'm just over in the passenger seat bawling, which anyone that knows me know that's shocking. But I'm just sitting there bawling, like, how do they how do they know? Like that's me. You know, it's crazy. It's it's so bizarre how your number really like you just identify with so much. But anyway. ⁓ okay, so in your own words, how would you describe your Enneagram type to someone who has never heard of it? Candice, you wanna go first? Sure. I feel like it just comes down to the goal setting and really wanting to achieve things. And I feel like AJ describes it perfectly. Every time he talks about it on the podcast, like I wanna look good while I'm doing it or I want to however you phrase it, you can probably do it. Yeah. I want to I want to ⁓ achieve things and look good doing it or something like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, exactly. So ⁓ when I'm so I just tell people I'm a goal setter. It's pretty much describes me and I I just want to do well. Yeah. How does that show up in your everyday running life? For me, I have to set like specific and realistic goals. So I can't set something that's too big because then I get discouraged if I can't meet it. So like right now I have a really big goal that's in the back of my head, but I can't let myself think about that one yet. I have to think about the little goals on the way so that I ⁓ can achieve them and ⁓ not feel like I failed. Yeah, totally. Elizabeth, what about you? So type twos are it's it's almost like it's crazy how type twos can literally feel what you're feeling. They are so full of empathy and compassion and they weep when you weep and they rejoice when you rejoice. and they also want to feel valued and loved and appreciated for constantly feeling like they're giving. So yeah, that's a type two in a nutshell, and it's totally me. ⁓ do you see that? play out in your running? I think maybe more in the negative because I think as a type two you can very much be your own worst critic. I think a lot of people can, but type twos especially. And so if something doesn't go quite right or if there's nobody there to sort of pat you on the back and show appreciation for all the hard work that you're doing, it can really put you down. Man, she's good. Yeah. So you need encouragement. Is that what I hear? Cause like ⁓ Erica will beat herself down. You know what I mean? And and I'm sitting there trying to encourage her. You need encouragement when you're out on the course? It's great. And that's why I love Run Disney so much, because there's just encouragement everywhere. Yeah. Right. Perfect. ⁓ type four and Mary. ⁓ yes, I'd describe the fours as ⁓ or type four as expressive, creative. ⁓ they like to be unique. They're often the deep feelers. in empaths. I would say they're very empathetic as well and compassionate. a lot of times fours have a desire to do things a little bit different way or a unique way. ⁓ and they can be very like individualistic. ⁓ and sometimes that can show up as being a little bit too independent ⁓ because they, you know, they want to be special. They want it to look different from the way everybody else is doing it. Yeah. I don't I don't remember your full running history, Mary, but like what how does that show up for you when you run? ⁓ I think the four shows up you know, through having a very curated playlist, like music playlist that depending on which mood, what energy I'm feeling, you know, I'll put on a different playlist. I think it shows up, you know, when I have to work through the feeling instead of just continuing my run. So I have to work through uncom uncomfortable feelings. I have to work through when I don't feel like running. I have to kind of move past that feeling to run. Yeah. I love, I love learning all the numbers. Sorry, I'm gonna say that like 30 times. Sorry. ⁓ can you guys give us an example of a time during a race or training where your personality type was like on full display? Like just confirms exactly what your Enneagram number is. Like for me, ⁓ I I ruin not ruin, but like I did a Walt Disney World half marathon at full speed for no, you know what I Like you're not supposed to PR a Walt Disney World half marathon. You know what I mean? Like you're supposed to enjoy it. And I just went full tilt, didn't see a character, didn't stop, didn't take a picture. Like that was my Enneagram three achiever on full display. Yeah. You know, anybody else have any stories about their their number? I've got a good one on the three train as well for that one. So my very first dopey, all I'd done prior to that. First Dope challenge was several halves and then a bunch of 5Ks, you know, much shorter distance things. And so it was definitely one of those go big or go home moments where if I'm gonna do a marathon, I'm also gonna do all these other races that go with it. And then the morning of the marathon, my brother in law, you know, we were chatting about the weekend. I was sending him a message and I was like, you know, I'm gonna take a few more pictures this race than what I'd done for the the previous three. Sure. And so he threw out there, well, Is it really a marathon if you're doing all those stops? So I had to take a deep breath and you know on one hand I knew it was a Disney race, but on the other hand, it was almost like, well, I can't let him win. So it's kind of that that twofer there. Yeah. So I had to put a lot more, you know, mileage behind me and speed so that, you know, if there were a few characters I weren't so weren't so up on stop and for, I could just breeze right past them. Right. ⁓ so I did condense down the number of stops in that first Dobie so that I could show him, ⁓ yeah, you know, not only did I I do it, but yeah, I did it. On top of what you kind of challenge me. Right. Yeah. But then yeah, that go big, go home, first marathon. Yeah. Might as well do the whole dope challenge to begin with on top of that too. Yep. Yeah, for sure. Spoke like a true three. Yes. And I did that. Well, once I after I did that PR race, I came back the next time and said, AJ, don't do that. You know, you're supposed to enjoy it. So I said, didn't I say, I'm gonna see as how many character stops can I do? Right. So I even turned it from like it's supposed to be fun to how many can I do? And then so, yep, I get it. ⁓ you want to continue the three discussion there, Candace? ⁓ yeah. I mean, obviously the character thing is a huge one. I just at springtime surprise, I was like, I went into the 10 miler planning to stop for whatever characters I want. And then all of a sudden I was unintentionally running faster than I have in a long time. And I was like, Well, goodbye characters, goodbye experience. I'm running, I'm not stopping. Yes. I saw you guys and I was like, sorry, I'm I'm PRing. You were flying. You were, you were Yeah, ⁓ kind of regret that. I I was super upset at myself. I was like, you could have stopped for 30 seconds for a photo, but I was just too in the zone. No, you should be. So right, right. Well, spoken like a three, you should be, of course. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. And then with my hip injury just at the half marathon, I think the doctor told me he's like, I mean, I don't know if you're I I don't know if you're gonna be able to cross the finish line in the back of my head, I was like ⁓ boy, do you not know who I ⁓ am? And I came back and he's like, I see you're wearing the jacket. Did you do it? Yep. Yep. I did. So that's so good. So I'll go. ⁓ it's really hard for type fours to compartmentalize their feelings or not pay attention to the feelings of the people around them. ⁓ and so one time, Early in our marriage, David and I were had signed up for a 5K. I think it may have even been his first 5K. And we're at the starting line, the gun goes off, and I just bolt. Well, he had his air cods in. And at the time he was ki a newer runner. ⁓ had run a little bit in high school and college, but he had never done like a distance race. So anyway. The gun goes off and I make a strong start and he yells, not realizing how yell he how loud he is. Is this how fast you're gonna run the whole time? You know, I was like, I was so embarrassed. And I was like also just worried about him and felt like, ⁓ my gosh, I just left my husband and like I should have run with him. And then, you know, I had all these thoughts going through my mind. know for the next mile we're like trying to face the tension of this situation to happen. You know, by now three we were all good. But ⁓ but that was definitely a moment to work past. So here's a here's a question I have for you as a four. Did you journal about that decision later that night? Cause that's a four thing, right? Like to really think about it. I don't remember journaling, but that wouldn't surprise me if I didn't reflect on it like the next day. Yeah. You know, with somebody or some way. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. Elizabeth, ⁓ the two, how is that shown up in a race for you? There's like three specific races, but I I know we don't have a lot of time. But this past marathon, there was there's an area you're going into Animal Kingdom and then you're coming out of Animal Kingdom and you're literally passing each other on the course. Yes. And at some point I was like, I'm just gonna stick my hand out and like high five people as they're running past me. They're going in and I'm leaving and they've got to do what I just did. And some people took it, some people didn't, and that was fine. But ⁓ so that was one example. ⁓ another one was princess last year, my sister-in-law and her friend were running their first half marathon. And I know that one of them They had only gone as far as nine miles and we were all running our own race. And I had already reached nine. I knew they were behind me somewhere. So I just sent them a text message like, Hey, I know that you're passing mile nine now and this is the furthest you've gone up till now. And you're gonna make it. You're gonna be a half marathoner. ⁓ and I can't wait to see you at the finish line. And then we all get there and both of them were like, I was sobbing on the course. Yeah. But I I think my favorite one was not a Disney race. It was my son's first 5K. And he was like eight years old. And it's very humbling running with an eight-year-old because you are used to just going in your 5Ks, or I am. Yeah. And not with an eight year old who's never trained before. And ⁓ he so there was a lot of walking and and then we're getting close to the finish line. And I'm like, all right, buddy, you're gonna push. And I It's so unlike me, but I hang back and I put my camera on and I'm just screaming telling him to go and I have a video of him running. Just that was the best push. Like that was the best feeling ever. That's awesome. That's good. All right, y'all. What motivates you to lace up and get out the door, especially on the days when you really don't want to? One easy one that hits very close to home. So the always on that I got into running in the first place was because My now wife at the time we were just dating had it on her bucket list that she was going to do a half marathon by the time she was twenty four, twenty-five, something at the time. I couldn't be outdone by her. And so it was that competitive, you know, I have to achieve, you know, outdoor or at least keep pace with her. But one thing that drives me crazy now is that when we do any sort of, you know, local five K we have a a very competitive relationship when it comes to athletic things. So, you know, we race against each other even though we're running our own races. And it drives me crazy when I beat her. But she still places in our age group. So the drive is there for me to continue to train harder, you know, get out there in the Charleston heat and put those miles in so that eventually I'll have that moment on the podium too when I can be like, Look, it finally happened. You know, I got that metal in hand. And then your marriage counseling will start after this. Yeah. Yeah. Well, luckily we can keep that at home with her being a psychiatrist too. ⁓ there you go. Yeah. Same on the bill. Yeah, exactly. Or for Run Disney races. Yeah, yeah. I just don't want to fall behind. That's kind of where my stuff comes from. I did not grow up athletic at all. ⁓ I did track for the first time in high school and was terrible at it. and I've I've done the hills and valleys way too many times where I've hit the goal and then I just quit because it was miserable. And so now that I feel like I kind of found my stride, I just don't want to fall behind and ever have to do that that experience again of like having to start over. I get that. Do either of you threes have the thing where like, ⁓ Your identity is sort of tied to this now, to where like you've got to go train or run or sign up, even if it's not of interest to you because people know that you do this. Is that is that a thing for y'all? Absolutely. Yep. Not me. I'm that's totally I'm I'm I'm speaking hypothetically. I would I that's not me at all. Hilarious. They know we're runners and they expect us to sign up for every race and see us there. Yep. Exactly. Yeah. And I think this maybe goes towards the wing of the two, but I feel the same way sometimes. Like, ⁓ Well, people know that I'm a runner, so I guess I better go out there and run. So for me, motivation wise, at this point, I feel like it's more discipline than anything else. I know I need to get up and I need to get my run in or else it's not gonna happen the rest of the day. But I've never really had accountability partners, but more recently I've become a part of different communities that are super encouraging. The Rise and Run podcast, The Heller Hypes, which I found out from your podcast. I love the Holler Heights. And then there's I'm a part of the group coaching with ⁓ Tom Stokes, Stoke Metabolic Coaching. And ⁓ that group is just so encouraging and so full of wonderful people. And then I found a local run club. So I go rent with them on Saturday mornings and it's full of all different sizes and paces and it's great. That's awesome. Mary, what about you? Lately I would say what motivates me is seeing my children do hard things. My youngest son signed up for track this season. ⁓ and he has not been a runner prior to that. My my daughter is works as as an intern in the emergency room. And my oldest son is now training for a distance race that he just decided to do in January. And watching them train for those things and and and just do hard things inspires me, especially when I don't feel motivated to run. That's awesome. So clearly Elizabeth and I both like to encourage people. But another thing that's sort of a factor for me as a two is not wanting to disappoint people or let them down. I don't know if this plays in for you, Elizabeth, but ⁓ Absolutely in a weird way for me, like one of the things and I've told you this before, when I've been injured and I'm like, I still have to go out for the run. And AJ's like, well, not if you're injured. And I'm like, but I don't want to let our listeners down. Like And he's like, who cares? You know? But like that to me, like is a factor. Or like when we've run on the course together, you talked about how I like to encourage people, which I do. But also I feel like this not pressure per se, but like I don't wanna I don't wanna hinder you in any way. Like I know that you're gonna run faster than me. So I should try to run as fast as I can. Yes. Yes. Yes. So I don't know, Elizabeth, if this resonates with you at all, but there's also this this factor of like not letting people down, which is bizarre, but Totally legit. So ⁓ for sure. And that's in, I mean, that's in all areas of life is this fear of letting other people down. Yeah. And and feeling like you're an inconvenience. Like and that's why I I try and get my runs in. Well, for the most part, I work a full time job. So I have to do everything early in the morning. But if I have a long run on Saturday and we're all home on Saturday, I'm getting up before everybody else gets up so that I can so that what I enjoy doing. will not be an inconvenience to the people in my house, to my husband and ⁓ who's gonna be at home with the kids, even though he's never even hinted at it being an inconvenience. Yeah. Yes. Erica's like, I hate to leave you with the kids. And I'm like, the kids and I are gonna have a great time. What are you talking about? I know. ⁓ goodness. I know. For the most part, the kids are just downstairs watching TV and he'll he's still asleep and I've just run 20 miles. And that's where your wing three comes in, right? Where you walk in the house and you're like, I just ran 20 miles. What are y'all doing? Right. Yes. Yes. Okay. ⁓ what does your training look like? Are you a follow the plan exactly kind of runner or do you train more by feel? Mary, let's start with you. What you think? This is a tricky one. ⁓ I would say a younger version of me, ⁓ younger, you know, when I was in my twenties, maybe early thirties, I might have run based on how I feel that day. I think that could be true of me. I think a healthier version of me, it, you know, sticks to the plan, knows to trust the process and knows how I'm going to feel once I've completed the plan. And that's pretty motivating. Yeah. Yeah. I think with this question, this is one where I dipper a little bit, where I stray from the traditional three. I'm more of an ish in terms of following. Yeah. I'll lay everything out. start to finish at the beginning of the training session or the season. But if it doesn't quite go to plan, yeah, make the adjustments and not really stress too much about it. Or if the dates change, mileage changes, things like that. It's more kind of, ⁓ sometimes it's raining today. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. But my my follow up question is is why are you okay with that, right? Why are you okay with it it veering off the plan? I think because I know I'm gonna make up for it at some other point in time. ⁓ whether it's a different day in the week, You I'll add another day at some point when I'm just I'm feeling it. ⁓ so I I know by the law of averages, that time's gonna be made up and that effort's gonna be made up at some point in the road during that training period. Sure. Elizabeth, what about you? ⁓ I am a follow the plan exactly kind of person. And unlike Ryan, who could just, ⁓ I'll get it done when I get it done. I it's more that's when like my wing one comes in. And it's it becomes an all or nothing mentality. Like if I can't get it done perfectly, then I'm not gonna get it done and I'm gonna eat a whole thing of Oreos instead. Like it's just gonna go downhill completely. Yes. Yes. I love the honesty. ⁓ so good. Candace, what about you? my three. This is where I am a three a hundred percent. Give me a plan. Don't ask me to try and train without a plan. My poor friend that I've known since high school, she's a personal trainer and has had to deal with me for our entire relationship as friends, being like, Angie, I need to know what am I supposed to do? I don't know. Is this a leg day? Is this a fast day? Is this a slow day? And then I have a running coach who I'm also like, but what if I can't do this run? And she's she tries to calm me down and I'm like, No, I need a plan. Yes. You find comfort in the plan. ⁓ like what is it? What is it about the plan for you? I think I just lack confidence in knowing what to do. Okay. And so the plan makes me not spiral mentally. Yeah. So yeah, I feel like that's what it really comes down to for me is a lack of confidence. And therefore, you know, if I don't have the confidence of what I'm gonna do, how am I gonna meet the goal? What am I gonna do if I mess up? You know, it's interesting. Yeah. Very insightful. Wow. Awesome. Thank you. ⁓ okay. So let's let's let's get emotional here. For a second. What does race week look like for you emotionally, not logistically, right? Do you get nervous, excited, confident, like all of those things, none of those things? Let's kick it off with the two. The probably well, no, the four is probably the most emotional. What? I'm the most emotional. ⁓ I would say that I do pick up on the energy ⁓ of the people around me. So if I am with ⁓ you know, a running buddy. or a group running ⁓ for a cause or whatever it is, if they're excited, I'm I'm usually there, unless I'm just having a really off day. so I feel like most of the time I'm pretty excited. occasionally if I'm with, you know, if I happen to be with someone who's not feeling it, I have to work past that. Like I have to decide, okay, what's my race going to be like? ⁓ what's my run going to be like, regardless of what's what's going on with someone else? ⁓ can you click into that another level deeper? Like do you feel the need to carry what they are or or what? Like how how do how does that work for you? Hmm. I that's a great question. I think I feel the need to respond to what's going on for them, to check in, to try and be present with them and their experience. And it's sometimes hard for me to shift gears. Yeah. If I'm just trying to run the race. Got it. Awesome. Thanks for sharing. Elizabeth, can we talk about the two? How do you handle race week emotionally, especially leading up to a race? I guess it depends on the kind of race, but if we're, I mean, run Disney races all week long, beyond excited. Just so excited to be in the community around all these people because you know what. this sort of weekend brings. It's just all about excitement and seeing people that you haven't seen in a while. ⁓ but if it's a race that I haven't done, then I might feel a little anxious, especially if I'm going with my non-run family. ⁓ I'm the only runner in the family. And so I'm the I feel very much like an outsider in my immediate family. Now I have others in my family that run. But if it's just like my husband and I then ⁓ I can feel a little anxious and a little lonely, but you're in the corral, you're around other people, and you're you just start talking to people that are around you. And then as a two, like you really enjoy meeting new people and hearing what they have to say and hearing their stories and why they're there. Can I ask you a follow-up question? ⁓ I'm gonna ask you anyway. So we have a friend who's a two and he in his in his training whatever and just kind of got news that like he wasn't being fully supported by those around him, right? And that really impacted him where like someone didn't believe he could do it. And they vocalized that, which they should not have done. I wanted to, you know, just like step in and get involved. But like as a three, when someone says to me, I don't think you can do that, I say, hold this while I show you that I can. But I don't think that's necessarily the case for the two, right? Like you guys carry it a little bit more. Is that true for you or not really? Gosh, yeah. We we do. We ⁓ You don't wanna care about what other people think or what their opinions are because their opinion of you is none of your business. But i as a two, again, you you really have this way of tapping into what other people are feeling and thinking. And if someone else is thinking you can't do this, then there's just something inside you that breaks and thinks, Yeah, well, I guess I can't. What's your thing that you say? What's your like tagline, Erica thing for the two? What do you say? It's ⁓ I'm okay if you're okay with me. ⁓ yeah. Let's hear, let's hear from the threes. And y'all need to put aside your like look goodness and all of that, you know, the the need to like look professional and perfect and tell us about ⁓ the emotional side of preparing for a race. I get pretty anxious, but there's also a sadness that hits me on race week because it's over and so I feel like I'm constantly chasing. New goals. I'm like never satisfied, I guess. I don't know. This one was a hard question for me, I'll be honest. This one was a hard one because I just feel like it's kind of become like, yep, here's the race weekend. I'm here, I'm excited, but ⁓ it's gonna be over and then I'll be sad. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And for me as a three, I feel like where the nerves set in is when it's a new race for me. So the first time that I've done this course or this particular race in this place. where you have that uncertainty about what you're gonna be running into or you know the the the terrain or you know what the crowds are gonna be like or whatever it might be. And then once you knock it out that first time, it's definitely much more on the excitement side of things, ⁓ which is really how the the Disney races have become for me. ⁓ where I know that I've done it, I'm capable of doing it. And so it's definitely more on the excitement where I'm like, okay, it's race day, you know, let's go. Yeah. try still try to get a run Disney PR, you know, whatever that might look like, you know, the number of characters, the, you know, the time involved. If I want to try to do it without, you know, using any of the the Portageon, just stick to the in-part bathrooms, you know, whatever it might be. There's kind of those little mini challenges that I like to throw into the mix as well to make it fun and exciting, but add those little sub goals into the the big goal of, you know, bringing that that metal home at the end. Okay, you guys ready to talk wings? The wing is ⁓ basically it's the number before or after your number. So I think a lot of people confuse this on the Enneagram. They're like, they might be a three and they think, ⁓ yeah, when I, you know, sometimes I or you know, my wing sometimes I feel like an eight. And I'm like, ⁓ well, your wing technically is like a wing. It's your right or your left. You know what I mean? So, ⁓ so for example, you know, like me as a three, I wing towards a two. I could be a two or a four as my wing. I go two, Erica. is a two wing three, which like totally works for us because sometimes we can understand each other er fairly well. ⁓ how does your wing impact you, right? Well, I guess first of all, what is your wing? So what's your primary and your wing? And then ⁓ how does that impact you, Elizabeth, you wanna go first? So the test that I took, it didn't tell me which wing was mine, but I I looked them up and I could actually go either way, but I if I had to pick one, my wing would probably be a one. Okay. 'Cause I ve ⁓ gosh, I see myself in that so much. ⁓ just like I was saying earlier, just the perfectionism aspect of it. And it can really take a toll on you if you're a two and you wing one ⁓ towards one because it can lead to you being very overly self-critical of yourself. And ⁓ again, just having that all or nothing mentality of, you know, if you have a goal set for a race and then you get to a point in the race realizing that you're not going to be able to set that goal. then it was all for nothing and it was just gonna be a bad race from here on out. And you just can't have a positive outlook at that point. So yeah, I think I mean I don't mean to be super negative. That's okay. Yeah. That's ⁓ I think that's where I lean more toward. Awesome. Erica, you have any comments as being a two wing three. So that'd be the opposite of her. Do you have any, you know what I mean? She wings one. Do you have any comments about being a wing a two wing three? I mean, we were recently talking about it. I guess in a race that I did or something where I I felt like this what was that? I don't know what you're s trying to tell me. You don't? You were telling me the other day, you like, that's your three or whatever. ⁓ I don't remember. I it had something to do with running. I don't know. I just wanted to look good doing it apparently. Yeah. ⁓ I know what it was. Okay. I was comparing myself to a friend of ours who's also a runner. ⁓ yes. And I was like, How is this person already running faster than me? And he's like, Who cares? And I'm like You're like, I do. I do. And apparently that's my wing three. Like Yeah. So Right. And I I'm definitely a two, but I I I still feel like I need to appear like Yes. Confident in what I'm doing, I guess. Let me ask you this question. As a wing. Yes. Sometimes the line between doing good and looking good gets blurred for the three. Mm-hmm. Do you feel that at all in in being a a wing three? Or not really? No, not really. Okay. It's you just want to Do good. Do good. Okay, perfect. Okay. Perfect. ⁓ any other threes want to weigh on in this? What's your wing? I'm so confused on this part. I read both of them. Yeah. I still I don't know. I thought that it was a four, but then hearing you guys talk about like not wanting to let people down, that felt really accurate for me. But reading the descriptions, I felt more for. So I'm feel very confused on what I am. ⁓ Mary, how would she know that she is a four? Like what's in a what's in a way that she could be like, yeah, if you feel this way, you're probably winged this direction. A three wing four. I think if you're leaning into your creative side, like I notice right now, looking at your back your room, like you have I think you you make the hats. She makes awesome hats. They're the best. That's my business. Yeah. Okay. Disney hats. Yeah. So I mean, like that's a very creative endeavor. And so I mean, that could be you leaning into that four wing and using your creativity to make something and produce something and sell something and maybe also accomplish it if you if you are a three. Yeah. Actually, I think now that you're saying that, that is what led me to the four when I was reading through them, especially like you guys can help me know if this is applicable. But like when it comes to a costume, I'm not ordering one that a lot of other people will have. That's part of why I started my shop was I want the different costume. I want the unique one. And sometimes that means I'm wearing a costume that nobody knows what on earth I it is. Yeah. But it was different and that was important to me. Yeah. ⁓ totally. That sounds foolish. And and remember the story of when we found her hats? I said, they're better than everybody else's. Right? They were more creative and and just better. Yeah. And so yeah. Okay. All right. Thank you, Mary. You we went to the university of Mary. You ⁓ educated us. And she is officially a wing four. Thank you. Thank you. Yes. That feels right. Yeah. And I'd say for me, it's probably primarily I'm a three-wing two with the occasional flap into the four. ⁓ but with my background for the most part, career-wise being in HR, yeah, I I like being able to help people get their goals and kind of their career paths and needs in place too. And and that's carried over into the the race world, the run Disney world. ⁓ I last ⁓ dopey challenge. I had a group of two friends that ran it with me and one of ⁓ hasn't really been a runner, but we, you know, pushed through all four races, kind of ran at at his pace and you know changed up a lot of how I typically would have run to give that encouragement and trying to throw in other ways outside of just us saying, Come on, man, you can do it. You got it. One more step. Yeah. To give that encouragement to keep him going too. So I'd say primarily I'm a three wing two with the occasional, you know, wing flap into that that four realm as well. Totally. I wing to the three most often, but one of the things that I've read recently is that as you grow wiser and get older, ⁓ you tend to become more balanced in your wings. And so you know, you may have leaned heavy into one wing as a younger person. And then when you reach kind of like middle age, you start tapping into the other wing or you see the value ⁓ in it. And I would say that's definitely been true for me. ⁓ I feel like I leaned heavy into the three for a long time. And now that I feel like I have less to prove, I lean more into maybe the introspective side of the five. And I'm just more curious about things than I have a need to compete or to accomplish, or to kind of what I would say I tried to like prove things. ⁓ you know, to myself and to others. ⁓ I think with the with the three side. Awesome. Do you guys have a race that didn't go the way that you planned? And maybe how did your personality type play a role in how you handled it? I have a couple. I don't know if you want me to start. She said, I got a list here. All of ⁓ them? Just kidding. No, my very first half marathon is the one that came to mind where it was in Moab, Utah. And I did not finish my training. I was very improperly trained, but I still showed and I was like, well, I'm still gonna cross the finish line, obviously. And ⁓ it was like this. And then it was like this. I'm guess we're audio. You it went straight up, up a mountain, then down a mountain. There were spots where there was there were people there helping people climb down the rocks, and I was like What is happening? ⁓ gosh. And yes, I still crossed the finish line. I don't think I could walk normally for a solid week, but I think just the perseverance personality of just like, I I will finish this. And then just like quickly, the first 10K I did at Disneyland, I just remember running through it being like, This is this is silly. I've already walked these paths a hundred times. Why am I running them? I just couldn't find the magic. I was too focused on the goal of like, well, I'm running a 10K. I It took me some friends to help me figure out like this is how you have fun at a Run Disney race. So yeah. Those are my two. Perfect. For me, the only running race that I've not completed was the Blue Ridge Marathon, which they bill is America's toughest road marathon. Yeah. I got through about mile 18, 19 and my lower back just totally seized up on me. I could barely take one more step. I was essentially crawling. I eventually had to just you know throw in the the towel and and call that one quick. Just so I didn't do damage and really seriously hurt myself. But since that day it's really been eating on me. Like I have to go back for revenge. And a couple of years ago they actually started the Blue Ridge double marathon, where you actually start at one AM or two AM, you run it, and then you run it the second time with the actual main thing. So I have it on my bucket list, you know, to go for revenge and really make up for that one that I didn't complete by doing that soon. I haven't signed up for it yet. But in the next year or two I hope to to complete that just to say, I gotcha. Yeah, we did this. That sounds insane. I'd like to encourage you to just do the marathon first and then the double challenge, but you do you, you know, like a three, I guess. That's craziness. ⁓ my gosh. So for me, ⁓ it was my most recent half marathon, which wasn't at Disney. ⁓ it was actually in Savannah. And I really wanted to get a PR. I wasn't really taking other factors into consideration, like my actual PR was three years ago and I was at a different weight back then. And but I was like, for some reason, I'm like, I'm gonna get a PR this race. And even went on holler hype and said, Hey, give me some hypes. I'm gonna try and go for a PR. And, you know, so all these people are hyping me up through the whole race. I got like 19 holler hypes through the whole race. And it just got to a point where I'm like, I am not going to PR. I am not going to get my best time. And Here I was, I had put it out into the universe that I'm gonna try and get a PR and I wasn't gonna get it. And so I automatically I was like, I'm gonna let all these people down because they're you've hyped me up. And what am I gonna I have nothing to give back. I have no proof that their, you know, their hypes weren't in vain. So yeah, that was tough. And it I it sort of ate me up inside for a while. I think I would feel the same way. Although I would say from one two to another, Elizabeth. None of those people care if you did it or not. They just want to encourage you. So that's right. I know. But I also I feel that. I feel that in my soul. So yeah. Yeah. Mary, what about you? yes, I did have an experience ⁓ a while back doing a corporate wellness like 5K in downtown Atlanta. And there were, you know, probably 40,000 other runners through the streets of downtown Atlanta. And it was very congested. And the first half mile of the race, you know, I'm looking around, seeing all these groups running together. They have all these awesome t-shirts and I'm reading them, you know, just like feeling the vibes. And the woman in front of me trips over the curb. And I did not see her trip and I fall on top of her. So I nailed my knee, you know, I could not finish the race. But I was inspired to, you know, by all the people around me, you know, doing their thing, but it was super disappointing and yeah. That's frustrating. Yeah. ⁓ I want to ⁓ talk about our stress numbers and our ⁓ what's the opposite of stress? ⁓ safety. Saf safety and security numbers. But we don't necessarily have to tell long stories and whatever. What I want people to understand is that if you ever feel like you're A different number. Like you, you're you're your number, but you feel like you're ⁓ not, you're not an achiever today. You know what I mean? You're not a giver, you're not a helper. It might be because every number goes to a different number, depending on whether you're like in stress, like overtaxed, or you're feeling totally safe and secure. So what I'm looking for is like I'll kind of like say what they are. And I just love confirmation from y'all whether or not that's true for you. If you have something valuable to add, great. If you're like, no, that doesn't really happen to me, that's fine too. But I just kind of want to like validate the two, you know, and of course all this is according to people way smarter than than us. The two goes to eight. So Elizabeth, the eight is the challenger, right? The the person that wants to push people a little harder or whatever. So would you say that's true for you when you're totally stressed? Would you go to the challenger or or not really? I think so. I've had a lot, especially when it's like long training days and I'm really not motivated. And I just have these thoughts like, why am I even doing this? Who cares? Like, but then I realize this is not for anybody else. This is for me. This is something that I do for myself. And it's a challenge for me. And so yeah, I think so. Okay. Erica, what about you? I'm saying that you for you, the answer is yes. ⁓ okay. Yes. You disagree. No, I was gonna say I don't ⁓ give me an example. When the medical people call about a bill that you've already paid and yeah Erica gets on the phone and she's like, help me understand why you think and like you go full mama bear if someone messes with the kids. Yeah. So this is to go stress mode. And on the even on the race, you know what I mean? If if things aren't going very well, like you get a little challenge, like you challenge me or whatever. Like you'll speak. I've joked on the podcast before where you're like, Stop talking to me right now. You know what I mean? That's your stress number coming up. Yes. Okay. Then yes, I agree. Yes. That being said, I guess maybe I should also say that my full time job, I'm a lawyer. And so ⁓ that's probably where that comes into play as well. Yes. Okay. All right. So the three goes to nine, and nine is the peacekeeper. The the nine wants everybody to be cool. Like, no, no, no, no, no. Don't don't ⁓ no, like they were not talking about it, you know, like we're like. We're all friends here, you know, in the apparently in stress. ⁓ do you guys agree with that as a three? Yeah, I'm not sure if I've seen it in my running yet. I probably do in terms of like, I don't know, kind of like wanting to follow whatever everybody else is doing on their paces, or if they're gonna stop for a character, I'll stop for a character. I typically run alone, but definitely in my life. Yeah, I have the peacemaker for sure. Yeah, I'm kind of the same way. Yeah, I don't notice it so much in in running, ⁓ or really. Kind of the athletic side, but definitely career wise, like I said, having that background in HR. Yeah. You know, it's very peacemaker all day long. Yeah. Leveling the field, keeping everything organized. And so definitely career and life wise, it it skews that way in times of stress. Yeah. Yeah. Totally. And ⁓ Mary, ⁓ the book says you go to two, you go to the helper, you become a giver when you're super stressed out. Would you agree with that? I think so. I think sometimes I mean, I think I would definitely get more irritable and snippy, maybe like the low side of a two. ⁓ yeah. Like when I'm stressed, ⁓ or what I understand about a two. But I also have been learning about how you go to your stress number to get out of the stress as well. So you you go, you take on some of the characteristics of the the number you go to in stress, and also it helps you. get out of that stress. So I think that's probably more true for me. is by shifting my focus onto the needs of other people, I it feels me be less kind of like self focused. Yes. And then I can kind of come back and be like, okay, now I'm good and move forward. ⁓ that's really good. Yeah. Perfect. ⁓ okay, so let's talk ⁓ safety and security numbers, right? So when everything's going great, when you feel loved, your tank is full, all of that stuff. ⁓ the two well, let's go in reverse order. Let's go fours. ⁓ Mary, four apparently goes to the the one, the perfectionist, right? The reformer. Do you feel like that's true? I do feel like that's true. I think I feel the freedom to become more focused on my own goals and ambitions. And I'm not so worried about my own feelings or about what other people are feeling about what I'm feeling. I can just go. And I can get organized and I have what I need. I'm feeling good. ⁓ so I would say that's true. Awesome. Three goes to the loyalists, right? The ⁓ I like things the way I like ⁓ You know, I love my routine. I love my people, you know, I I've got everybody's back, you know, that that are they're on my on my side of things. So the three goes to the loyalists. Do you guys agree with that? In safety. Yeah, I don't really have any comment on it, but yeah, that I I think when I was reading through, I kind of was triggered by like. I feel safe with my coach. Like I want her to like I'm very loyal. I trust her. She will tell me what to do. I will do it. And I know that I will meet the goal. Yeah. Okay. Perfect. Ryan, you shook your head. You like you, I don't know if you agree. No, I do. I just don't think it's quite as as true as what the the stress was. So I think I'm more three to the ⁓ three to the nine than three to the the six. Yeah. And there are times, but it's a lot more loose, I guess, and when all's going well. Sure. On the loyalist front. I feel like for me, maybe this is you two or not like you as well. I ⁓ when I feel safe, secure, and whatever, I feel like I'm a three and I go to a three. Like like I'm like fully my my threeness when when I'm feeling safe and secure. Is that you as well or no? I think that's way more accurate than yeah. Yeah. For sure. Yep, totally. ⁓ Elizabeth, apparently you go to the four, the romantic. You had Mary's direction. Do you how do you feel about that? Creative. Thoughtful. Thoughtful, yes. I don't think there's a creative bone in my body. But ⁓ thoughtful. Yeah, definitely. And I think there were from what Mary was saying earlier, I think there's a lot of similarities between the two and the four, just going off of the vibes of other people and feeling what other people are feeling. So I think so, but I think I also agree with Ryan sort of ⁓ and you like if I'm feeling safe and secure, I'm really secure in being a two. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. Okay. Last thing ⁓ here before we move, I think we're gonna talk Run Disney here in a second, but every personality type has a dark side or a low side. I think Mary is the phrase you used. In what way does your personality type work against you? ⁓ and I'm thinking when it comes to like running and racing and all that, but it can be in general. But does your your type ever work against you? I feel like the dark side of it is because I know I'm such a gold setter, a goal setter, I just have to be so like I'm I'm almost afraid to set goals sometimes. Like I used to be embarrassed to say that I had a goal because there was a lot of judgment in my youth. And like now as a as an adult that's been through a lot of therapy and a lot of counseling and a lot of learning about myself. It's easier for me to set goals and not as scary, but in the past I before I like healed myself, I would say I would be afraid to set those goals, even though I really wanted to achieve them. Like I didn't really feel like I would have the strength to achieve them. So we're not going to set that goal, you know. But I've definitely grown and improved on that. And for me, I think the dark side is almost going too much to the extreme. Like we touched on with the the double marathon, sometimes I set goals that are either A, too lofty or be too many or too many steps ahead. Yeah. So it's almost me getting ahead of myself. And I need to, you know, chop away at those goals along the way to that ultimate end goal that I have for myself. Yeah. I have lots of follow-up questions for the threes because I am a three. So sorry if I I lean lean towards you guys and make you feel all the feels. ⁓ but one of the things about the three, and I know this is true about myself, is that it's it's called the per the achiever, but it's also called the performer because the three can can cut corners. Let's just be not on necessarily on a race course, but in you know, like in order to make sure it looks like I know what I'm doing, the three can do whatever it takes to perform. You know what I mean? Like look good. Like, is that true for you guys at all? You want a big confession? Yes. I was on a walk break when I saw you guys. I was supposed to be walking. ⁓ we could have gotten that back. Someone's gonna see me. They see me. I have to run now. Yes. There's my deep dark confession. Yes. That yeah. I've done that a time or two. ⁓ yeah, for sure. I totally had the time to stop. I was in the right sp place to stop, but I had to perform. No. Yeah. We d I' a three, I don't judge you in any way. You should keep going. We will celebrate you whether you're running or walking. I know. That's awesome. Okay, Ryan, did you have anything else to add there before we jump into the two and four? I don't know. No, it's basically the same. Just those moments where you want to appear that you have that that best foot forward, that you're you know, truly at the top of your game. Yep. All right. Twos and fours. Yeah. So for twos, ⁓ we already talked about how it can be an all or nothing mentality. Well, that's really winging towards one, but for type twos. particularly, you know, they're they're constantly giving and they're putting good vibes into the into ⁓ the universe and toward other people and they're trying to help other people. The dark side of that is they expect the same in return. And that's not not everybody's a two. So you're not gonna get the same in return. And the t the dark side that leads to feeling bitter and resentment towards other people. Yes, you're not yes. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. resonates. Mary, what about you? I would say the dark side of a floor is is it's getting trapped in this desire to be different to to the point to where it gets to be a self-fulfilling prophecy and you're like, ⁓ I have to be different. ⁓ I think sometimes fours can get stuck in that thinking ⁓ when actually they don't have to be. so they can just merge with the ideas of others and it's wonderful and other people have great ideas and when I say that out loud I feel like that that doesn't ⁓ you died a little on the inside when you just said that. Yeah, I gotcha. I don't let so much say that out loud. But it's it's true sometimes. And so I think the healthier version of fours, you know, merges with the I the good ideas of the people around them. That's awesome. That's good. That's good. If you guys were giving advice to another runner who shares your Enneagram type, what's the one thing you'd tell them to lean into? And maybe the one thing to watch out for? Hire a coach as a three. Get the coach. because they can help you meet your goals and they can help you set the right goals. And it can be it'll be all laid out for you. Yeah. Awesome. That's great. Anything to watch out for? I forgot that part. That's okay. That's why I asked. No. No, nothing. The threes are perfect. It's all good. We're perfect. We're gonna meet our goals no matter what. My advice would be kind of on the other side of the fence. So not necessarily embracing the three, but kind of going against it, like to be more in the moment and kind of enjoy what's around you. Cause I'm definitely guilty of getting caught up in, ⁓ you know, I gotta achieve that new PR. ⁓ I need to hit this landmark or do this or do that. And I have to try to run on myself to take that step back and just enjoy the moment and be there. So I think that would be my advice is to kind of st push yourself outside of being a three for a moment. Yes. That almost feels like his dark side is my or like what the watch out for is my side of the three. Yeah, sure. Right. Like so I feel like maybe yours is what I need to watch out for is to make sure I'm not being too much of a goal setter. Candace, we recommend when you see your friends on the side of the course, you just stop. You know, just enjoy that moment. Just just enjoy that moment. I am gonna you yeah, I I'm gonna regret that forever. Why? ⁓ we're so excited to see you run by. We're gonna give you a hard time about it, but we're gonna we He's gonna give he's gonna give you a hard time about it. I will not I can't believe I confessed that. That was I haven't told anybody that and I just told it on a podcast. Yeah, but but Candace, we got to see you go by three times this season. So it our hearts are full. So you know what I So we're good. We're good over here. Well, and it was great. Like I said, you guys have changed every the races for me. I didn't know how ⁓ important it was for me to have someone cheer me on until I heard you guys yell my name and I was like, this is the greatest thing ever. So And this is where my threeness is gonna kick in because if I see that you're signed up for a race and we're not gonna be there, now I'm gonna feel the need to be there to make sure that I complete the checklist. You know, this is what's gonna happen. I will I am a grown adult. I can survive without you guys. But my big goal that I've set, you better believe I'm already telling people. Like there's a reason I sign I'm gonna sign up for what I'm gonna sign up for. Yeah. Based on all of that. So yeah. Nice. Awesome. ⁓ okay, we're talking advice for people that are your type as it comes as it relates to running, ⁓ Mary or Elizabeth. I'll jump in. I would say one piece of advice would be to come up with some sort of mantra that's going to help you tap into your thinking brain when you are struggling. Or when you're feeling uncomfortable. for me, it's this question, like, can I go one more minute? Or can I go to the end of the road? Or can I go to the b you know, the start to the next neighborhood or wherever it is that I'm running. ⁓ so that I kind of work past the thing that I'm feeling in the moment, ⁓ if it's uncomfortable and kind of move towards a new goal that helps me. Yeah, move past that feeling. Yeah. What do you listen to when you run, Mary? As a four. ⁓ it depends on the day. Sometimes if I'm on a going on a long run, I can listen to a podcast. sometimes I don't listen to anything. ⁓ it really I listen to people for a living. so ⁓ that's that's my job. And so I sometimes I just need quiet. Yeah. So I welcome those types of runs as well. Awesome. All right, Elizabeth. So something that I would tell other type twos to lean into would be to just encourage other people that you see on the course or even just running around in the neighborhood, telling them it might feel unnatural at first because not all type twos are extroverts. You know, some of us are introverts, but ⁓ you really don't have no idea the impact that you're gonna have on somebody else just by cheering them on or giving them a high five. It could be the very thing that's gonna push them to the finish line. ⁓ so just lean into that because that's who you are. And then the thing that I would want a type two to look out for or to watch out for is stretching yourself too thin. Because as a type two, it's not just impacting your running and training. It's probably impacting other areas of your life, other areas where you've felt like you've I can't say no to this person, I can't disappoint this person. And so then you've you look at your life and realize that you have obligated yourself for so many things and you don't have any time left for yourself or for your goals. And I would just encourage other type twos that it's okay to say no. And y it doesn't make you any less compassionate towards other people's needs if if you have to say no to something. Yeah, I know. ⁓ Shooting Erica some daggers 'cause she ⁓ she's the worst about that. Yeah. ⁓ so am I. I I struggle with it. Exactly. It's so much easier to tell another two, like, and then you're like, Yeah, yeah. And then but then when someone says it to you, you're like, ⁓ gosh, okay. Yeah, that's true. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. Thank you all for that. That's really good advice. All right. Let's talk Run Disney. Is there anything about your personality type that applies to why you choose to do Run Disney? Performer costume. Give me a space where I can wear a costume proudly. Yeah. Yeah. That's that's the Run Disney vibe for me. Yeah, totally. For for a type two, it's all about the community. It's all about people cheering other people on no matter your pace. Whether you're at the front of the pack or at the back of a pack, you're all there making this running the same miles. So that's what's that's what's ⁓ pushing a type two to run Disney. Yep. Run Disney celebrates everyone. When I first found out years ago that they had races, it was combining you know the best of both worlds, my Love for Disney and running into one, getting to run through the parks and have fun and Then it was just contagious from there. Yeah. I had so much fun that I wanted to sign up again and again and again. And so it just kind of snowballed from there. Totally. Erica. ⁓ I just said like Ren Disney's for everybody. I agree with everything Elizabeth said. So just the community, everyone's encouraging everybody in a way that I don't feel like you get that in any other race experience. So yeah. And like Ryan, I'm just a huge Disney freak. ⁓ Yeah. Totally. Mary Faith, we need to get you at a Run Disney race here soon. Yes. I'm interested. I have not have yet to participate in a Run Disney race, but I do think I would have fun with the costumes. ⁓ yeah. And have a few characters in mind if I was to, you know, if I was to participate one day. ⁓ yeah. Your bank account thanks you. That's right. ⁓ yeah. Yeah. Stay off the sauce. Right. Right. All right. Well, I apologize, Mary, because this last question is ⁓ it's a Run Disney one for anyone who's done it. So I gotta throw it to everybody else. She could still say like what she thinks. Sure, it's a ⁓ good point. well I'll ask it anyway. So ⁓ everybody else on this pot on this call right now knows, and everybody listening knows that we ask ⁓ a would you rather question? And Erica and I are on different teams. Everybody knows that. Erica chooses Main Street, I choose the finisher medal if you could only have one. So I'm posing it to all of y'all, right? We'll go ⁓ I guess we Choose your order. It doesn't matter to me. The question is: would you rather run down Main Street or have a finisher medal for a half marathon at Disney if you could only choose one of those things? Whoever is brave enough to go first. This is our last question. I'll go first. I I I don't know the significance exactly. I mean, I have an idea in my mind about what the significance of running down Main Street would be, but I didn't, I didn't know. So I looked it up on Chat GBT. I love it. And ⁓ I think for a type four, it would be super meaningful to run down Main Street. But I also think the symbol of having a medal from the hard thing that you did and running a race would also be super meaningful. So I went back and forth. ⁓ but I think I would pick the medal. ⁓ I'm gonna okay. I'm just gonna step in and say, as Mary's friend, I'm gonna challenge her. I'm gonna challenge her. To come running. Like a court session? What are you talking about? No, no, no. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna allow, I'm gonna accept her answer. Okay. But with an asterisk, I think that if she ever ran down Main Street, she would change her mind in a s heartbeat. Everything I know about her is probably true. Yes, right? Yes. Okay. So Mary, just someday you're gonna have to run down Main Street with us and get that experience where you're everyone's cheering you on and it's like early in the morning and you're crying. It's all the things. Yeah. But but it's okay. You can choose metal for now. I'll have to experience it. Yes. To give my authentic you need to. Yeah. Yes, for sure. Let me just say this. ⁓ I choose I choose the metabol. Let me just say this. I think I've cried three times in public in my life. When we got married, when well, maybe when all the kids were born or something like that. And the first time I turned that corner going down Main Street. Like that was it. Like it's it's a meaningful thing the first especially the first time. Holy cow. All right. Okay. Who's next? I think it helped you go in first without kind of us bleeding in. Yeah, that was a really good call. That was a really good call. Yeah. Yeah. But you picked the right answer. Team metal all day long. All right, Ryan. Thank you very much. Now, if they ever had the finish line on Main Street, that would definitely be the ⁓ my gosh. That would be awesome. But for today, it's definitely the metal. Yeah, that's an interesting thought. Mm-hmm. A finish line on Main Street, obviously logistically impossible. Yeah. But it'd be so cool. That would be cool. Yeah. But there's something about, and I know not everyone's gotten to do it, Main Street in the dark is better than Main Street. And you know, during like on the marathon, it's better. It's better on half. So okay. All right. But team metal. I love it. Hey, I'm winning. We should just call this right now. Cause I ⁓ I don't know. All right. We'll just no, okay. All right. Who's next? I'll go. I will preface this by saying that the very first time I saw the Cinderella Castle was on a half marathon and it was at night and it was lit up. And I still pick team metal. ⁓ my gosh. Candace, you are dead to me. ⁓ no, sorry. I don't have a sentimental bone in my body. It's okay in a lot of ways. It's all good. Yep. I want the metal hanging on my wall so that people will see it and ask about it and tell me how cool I am. Yeah. Honestly. Honestly, I would be surprised if any three said main street. Just because it's it's in your nature to say metal. But that's right. Uhhuh. Yes. I know. It was a magical moment. First time I saw that castle and I still ⁓ Yeah. Yeah. I'll take a medal. How cool to see it on a run for the first time. That's so good. That would be cool. It's great. Elizabeth's about to join my team. Okay. Well, Candace, do you know where my medals currently are? They are in a bag on the floor in my bedroom. ⁓ my gosh. So I love my medals, but you give me Main Street. Gotta I've got to run down Main Street. It's just so beautiful. I'll never get over it. Mm-hmm. Like that's a toothing. You think so? The experience for sure. Yeah. And you can probably picture who you ran down Main Street with every time, right? Honestly, when I think Main Street, I think of all the faces of the people crying that I don't even know. Like and how happy I was for them. So yeah, it's yeah. It's it's okay. But I still love the score because that's ⁓ that's three to one. So I'm still I'm still good with it. You're still winning. Okay, cool. You want to take the Yes, sorry, I was so focused I didn't even see my part. Okay, here we go. Thank you all so much for joining us on the podcast and helping us learn a little more about each personality type. Before we let you go, if you want to share, where can our friends find you online? It was meant to be. Yes. I'm on Instagram at ElizabethRunsThis, Elizabeth with an S. Perfect. And you share fun reels. So like you're funny. Like I mean, I really like they're fun. They're fun to watch. So like ⁓ those are those are always entertaining. Thanks for thanks for posting those. ⁓ yay. Thanks. Thanks for watching. Yeah. The lip sync ones are my favorite. They're the easiest ones. I don't have to be creative or anything. And then I'm on Instagram as well at my mentor luck. You know, it was a joke growing up that if I had bad luck, it was that and then some. So I tried to embrace that and move it into the the positive side with some of the challenges moving forward. So that's kind of how that came about. So at my mentor luck. That's perfect. And you can find me at LiveWell Workshops on Instagram. That's perfect. ⁓ you said that you talk to people for a living. You like, do you care to share it all what what what the Live Well does or not or would you rather not? It's up to you. Yes.
