Calvin Higgins: So, mean, let's, you know, I think that's a great idea for the kids to, for the boys particularly to be involved in the prayer. ⁓ That definitely gives them a little ⁓ taste of what kind of household leadership could feel like potentially. At least one aspect. Yeah, so that's great. ⁓ That's gonna be a wrap for episode 51. ⁓ Leave your comments wherever, like, subscribe. ⁓ Also, email us, again, new email. Yeah, that'll do it for today. Thanks for watching. Men, signing out. Peace. Official, like, real episode. Past 50, and this is on YouTube. That's crazy. We have, like, successfully reached our starting point. We're not even close to where we can be, so... Yeah, guys, this is pretty exciting. Episode 51. First of all, Sam, good afternoon. This is the fourth episode we have recorded today, but technically the fifth because we recorded the first one twice. Yeah. So it's been a long day. And we still have more to go. And it is very bright outside. Yes, we had to switch spots because I could not even see my laptop screen. It's so bright just in this window. But someday we might have a better studio. So we'll see about that, perhaps. All right. This episode. It's for our typical group. Guys, come on, you knew I was going to say it. It is for young people and their parents to help their young people think farther ahead in their lives, and for obviously then young people to think that far ahead. And it's to help mature faster. the anchoring Bible verses are from Philippians 3. And I did not make a note. to say which one it is. Ah yes, here we go, okay. So Philippians 3 verse 14 and on, I'll, I'm just saying we're gonna get there. So, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, think this way. If in anything you think otherwise, God will also reveal that to you. Nevertheless, to the extent that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule. Let us be of the same mind. Brothers, be imitators of me, and note those who walk this way, even as you have us for an example. For many walk of whom I told you often, and now I tell you, even weeping, as the enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose God is the belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who think about earthly things. For our citizenship is in heaven, from where we also wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. who will change the body of our humiliation to be conformed to the body of his glory according to the working by which he is able even to subject all things to himself." So, and I actually started a little too late, so Philippians 3.11, if by any means I may attain to the resurrection from the dead, not that I have already obtained or am already made perfect, but I press on. if it is so that I may take hold of that for which also I was taken hold of by Christ Jesus. Brothers, I don't regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do, forgetting the things which are behind and stretching forward to the things which are before." And then again, it continues, I press on towards the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. So basically this whole section of Philippians trying to think about leaving behind your youthful ways, your childish ways, and pressing on towards more maturity. And that's really what the gravitational coordinates idea is. Sam, you might be familiar with this. Maybe. Might not be. But do remember the fiction festival where a certain guy named Sean ⁓ referenced imaginative coordinates? I recognize the wording. I don't remember exactly what it applied to. Right, so imaginative coordinates was his topic in plotting your imaginative coordinates. Basically where he's saying expanding the coordinates of your mind. ⁓ I mean, it's kind of like creating your map, creating your world of imagination even bigger. Make it bigger, make it more weighty, plot those coordinates. And I was thinking about this the other day and I was like, you know what, let's piggyback off that. So I came up with gravitational coordinates and expanding gravitational coordinates. So this is all about how kids, ⁓ particularly young people, need to expand their vision for the future. So let's dive in. So, 1 Corinthians 13-11 says, When I was a child, I spoke as a child. I felt as a child, I thought as a child. Now that I have become a man, I have put away childish things. This verse is great for this episode because in order for us to leave our childish ways and become adults, we need to leave behind the ways that we behaved like as children. So that's our language, our feelings, and our thoughts. And it's purposeful steps towards maturity. And, you know, all humans have times where we want to behave like children. And why is that? I mean, it's just, it's easy. It's easy. not a lot of responsibility or really anything depending on you. For really anything, but it's just easy. Yeah. Yep, so it's easier to be a kid than an adult. That's just, unfortunately, how it is. However, purposeful immaturity or a purposeful lack of steps towards being mature is wrong. 1 Corinthians 14 verse 20, brothers, don't be children in thought, yet in malice be babies, but in thought be mature. And again, these are web translations of the of it, so it's not ESV. So might sound a little bit different than you're used to, but that is what my database was able to take because the ESV is copyrighted, which is kind of unfortunate for some things. Some things. So, it's a good addition. It is a good addition. you know, so again, it's that the scripture, the word is telling us not. to continue to be childish, but to continue to mature. So that means that steps have to be taken forward and pathways must be put aside. And it's hard to put, it's hard to put aside those ways because it is so easy, so you're stepping into something uncomfortable. And what did we say in our very first episode about uncomfortableness? Well, I mean, things aren't gonna change Well, big things. Big things aren't going to change without you getting uncomfortable. Without you figuring out something to grow in that you don't necessarily ⁓ not not not want to grow in, things that you think, I don't know if it's time to grow in that. Well, maybe it is time to grow in that. And you just think maybe it's not time. So. Uncomfortable leads to growth, leads to change. ⁓ And because like, mean, are you gonna, are you gonna do something if you're comfortable? Sure. But it's much easier to do something if you're uncomfortable. ⁓ In a lot of ways. Yeah. I mean, it's like, so like, it's like working out, you know, you got to put the stress on the muscles to get them to grow. They're not going to grow without it. So how would one do this or how might a parent help their child mature? In other words, how do we expand our gravitational coordinates? I think that there's two sermons in particular that shape our ideas. Yes, they're both from Trinity Evangelical Church, two of the elders, from Sean and from Philip. I'll link the sermons down below. So, Sean's, the title is Choice Men. It's from Titus 2.6. Yes, our email was wrong. We talked about that in the last episode. We had Titus chapter 2 verse 12, not 6. 12 is good, but not the one we're supposed to have. So, we changed it. New email. Let us know your thoughts. So, That's Sean's and then Philip's The Confidence of Faith, which is ⁓ Hebrews 10, verses 35 through 39, which read, Therefore don't throw away your boldness, which has a great reward. For you need endurance, so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise. Quote, In a very little while he who comes will come and will not wait. But the righteousness will live by faith if he shrinks back. My soul has no pleasure in him. End quote. But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the saving of the soul. That is a big deal. So, how do we get in that? Obviously, the choice-men idea, that's where the podcast name came from. And Sean's point in that sermon and from Titus 2.6 is that if you're being self-controlled. What do self-controlled people do, I mean, there's multitude of things. They're more wise, making of wise decisions, able to actually be put up as leaders over people. ⁓ They'll just, they'll be more responsible. They'll be counted upon to act in such a way when the time comes for certain things that need to be done. I mean, take your pick. Yeah, I mean, in other words, they might make wise choices. Yeah. Yeah, so, and that is the idea of a choice man is that his choices are good, making him potentially a good decision. Yeah. For certain things. So, that's what we wanna be here, is choice men. That's what this podcast is about. That's what we talk about a lot of the time. But, you know, in terms of having... the gravity, think gravitational coordinates. So that's what I'm talking about. Map out your weight. Map out your considerableness. And that's kind of where Phillips, the confidence of faith comes in because we need faith for that gravity slash being considerable. Having some weight to us, having some gravity, having some choiceness to us, being choice has gravity to it. But in order to do that, we need faith and we need the confidence of faith and Philip said, our worship creates a confidence of faith that brings about considerable life everywhere we take it, not a timid anxiety that carries with it a shriveled destruction. We go out into the anxious world with an unwavering presence, end quote. So that means young people and parents of young people get to it. Focus on your worship, knowing that that's what gives you the confidence. to be considerable and expand your ability to take on more responsibility. In other words, you're expanding your gravitational coordinates. That's what gravitational coordinates are, and it's your ability to take more responsibility. It's choice, it's gravity, it's considerable. It is pretty basic. Pretty, pretty basic. Basic things are hard. Yeah, well I mean, yeah, mom trying to teach her kids... not experience, confidence in doing things by themselves. Gives them the credit card or a little bit of cash. You're gonna go in that store and you're gonna go buy that tomato sauce. You know which one we want. You know, you have the money to buy it. You go in there, you buy it. You've seen me do it all the times. You know how to do it. I'll be right here waiting. That's hard. Yeah, it's good. Yeah, it's good. them... Good growth. Right. Them being able to handle that and not be anxious has some good weight to it. Right. So, let's keep making kids like that. That means be self-controlled and make choices that further your maturity, purposeful steps towards maturity, worship to strengthen your faith, which builds the confidence to be considerable. If you do these things, you will expand your gravitational coordinates and become choice men and ladies. Obviously the choice-made idea applies to women as well, and it's not just young people, even though that's what that verse is directed to, is young men. Likewise, the young men to be self-controlled. But it does apply to everybody. ⁓ We want considerable people, not just men. We're men. We talk to young men a lot. But again, parents, that, again, like Sam's saying, put your kids in those situations. make sure to be focusing on worship as a family. Those things are going to come out of that. Sam, what's everybody's spiritual next step here? Well, mean, keep up on your Bible reading. Just keep nailing that one. ⁓ Worship better, pray better, ⁓ read the Bible better. ⁓ It is just going to be working in your life if you continue nailing that. hitting it with more, keep thinking about it. Considerable. mean, there's a reason it says meditate on the word day and night. And that's because, I mean, it's good for you. ⁓ What else has the power to change your life? Like that? Yeah, if you give it time or don't give it time. Yeah, absolutely. What's gonna happen if you don't give it time? Yeah. Well, I think that if you do that, your practical next step starts to come along, which is to look for more responsibility to take on and make choices that reflect maturity in Christ. I mean, that's a pretty basic breakdown, but it's hard to get yourself into that kind of situation, and that's why you gotta pray. Right. Sam. Where does that put us with that device? I actually just thought of one and it was amazing, I think. wow. So does that require a drum roll? Maybe. Yeah, let's get a drum roll here. And I know that you dads are the heads of your household and that is great, but don't freak out when I say when it's dinner time and it's time to pray for the food, let some of your boys do the praying for certain nights as well. ⁓ It doesn't have to be every week. It's good. grows ⁓ their thought capacity of, ⁓ shoot. yeah, do. ⁓ There's a lot of that. There's, mean, maybe as the head of household, you think it's always your responsibility to pray for the food. And sure, that's great. That's fine. The thing is you have to realize you are also raising young men to be heads of their own households. And... ⁓ I mean, it's good practice for them to be able to pray for others, for blessing of food and whatnot. ⁓ So it's good growth. Yeah. That's great.
