Calvin Higgins: And welcome back to Choice Men, everybody. Sam, how you doing? I'm doing good, how are you? I'm doing good. And you all are probably wondering. What are we doing in Sam's car? And you might be wondering. Yeah, I don't think it's done. we are currently at the ECS rummage sale. And you're also still wondering then why are you in a car that's being car washed? And because this year we're they're having a car wash at the rummage sale. And the rummage sale this year is formatted a little bit differently. They're the money that they're making is gonna go to different places. Sam's gonna now pull his car forward. It's gonna be a fun episode. we're just gonna kinda talk about, you know, a variety of things. This is so fun. New position, new workers. Peter Leiden's checking us out. I'm guessing right there is fine. Yeah. He just going for it. Yeah. And so, anyways, we thought we would podcast in the car just for a little bit while we're getting the car wash, and then we're gonna get out, we're gonna do some fun stuff down at the actual sale. Nice. but yeah, so the rumor sale, I think we've been doing this for Probably about six years. It's been we've done a couple. Yeah, maybe maybe even eight. actually eight does sound right. I think eight or nine maybe. and one of the cool things about this is we have done it at different locations. I guess technically we've only done it at two. Which would be we've done it here at TEC, which for a while was Reclamation Church. So our church didn't meet here for a while. And so we were doing it at the Vanderbeckens house, which that actually was a really nice spot for doing it in terms of the visibility. It wasn't a great spot for doing it in terms of having like parking and Yeah, 'cause there was really no parking. So people had to park across the road and stuff. But there was a lot of visibility. We didn't The last couple years we've been making the same amount of money though, and it's all like three grand over three days, which is that's fine. I think this year they're doing a little bit better. They're on a different pace, so that's good. Today's the last day. It's been going from Thursday to now. But I mean they've been collecting stuff since the beginning of August. Yeah. Even before that. So Which begs the question, why are we talking about it if this is the last day? You guys are gonna see this too late to have gone. That's right. Well Sam, why are we telling Well, we've had it every single year, which means you guys can catch it next year. Next year in August. follow the Facebook group for I think maybe the school would probably announce it. I'm guessing the T E C Facebook page would would announce it. Or just like around August swing by through Marysville and see if see if it's going. i it's like mid mid August I think is when we've always done it, but Yeah. Like Yeah, and I mean it's possible that it will not happen next year, but we'd let you know obviously after making this this video. Quick announcement. it's probably at this point pretty likely that it'll happen, especially if they really do make a significant amount more money than they've made. And also it is the money is now going to a different thing. So the last the whole time that it's been a thing. So the school has a couple different funds. We have the student fund, which is like for trips and things. We didn't have athletics for a long time, so we didn't have any athletic stuff to put that money into. and we also didn't have but we had a trip fund. So every like three years we were going to the UK. It was a big UK trip. and so the money that was made at the sale got divvied up among the people who were going. The problem is when you divvy up the three grand to all the people, the trip is already like $2,000. And so a like $100, $150, $200 maybe, isn't all that much to you know to counteract a $2,000 trip. So this year, the guy Dave Lighton, he's running it. He he decided that this year it was gonna be the money was gonna go towards the ECS Athletics Fund. And that is a great idea. Also, I actually really like the visual. This is kind of fun. But being able to go to, you know, for for our athletics fund to be able to get, you know, if they make Even if they made three grand this year, three grand going to the athletic fund for like new uniforms or new sports equipment or whatever, blocks for track athletes to train on. Like that is actually probably a better bang for their buck and for their work. Right. And so I think the students are a little more bought in because they're like, well, if I'm gonna pay two grand for the trip anyways, what like my sixteen hours of labor over three days for like two hundred bucks to go towards that trip. Isn't really cutting into it very much. They could actually probably be making more money doing something else. So I actually think this is a really good reformatting of the sale. I actually probably goes a little just a little further too, because like new equipment can be divvyed up to old to younger students as the years go by, depending on the equipment. Yeah, so the investment goes a little bit further. I think it's still a great community event. I actually pre Pre-the decision that this was gonna happen, I was lobbying for it not to happen. Because unless it got a super big overhaul, and it got a decent overhaul, it still needs, in my opinion, it probably needs a little bit more. And I mean, I was one of the people who could have helped with that, and I I did not this year, so I'm not saying that like, hey, everybody else should fix this. Like I'm I'm I'm just saying I think everybody thinks that there's probably even some more, even some more overhaul. that could happen. But it the layout's a little better and we'll show you that in a little bit. of what's going on. Go out and walk around the sale. Yeah, we'll talk to some people. Check it out. But yeah, I mean it's you know because we've been doing it so long, it feels like a nice a nice thing to be a part of. every year somehow it's not ever rained really. There is one year. One year at like the end of a day. And then the next day it was like blistering heat. Yeah, it kinda dried everything out that was wet. 'cause I mean and you'll you'll see. We have a lot of stuff that is just out. not covered. So there's you know, we run the risk, but and now that I said that it's probably gonna rain now, but it hasn't rained in a while. One of the things I also really appreciate about this car wash is that one of the guys who has a car who goes to school. Ooh man. Let's go. That's nice. I'm just gonna enjoy that view just for a second. Looks good. but one of the things that is really funny about this is that one of the guys he's he owns he's got a car. He's here. He's also cleaning the cars. One of the cars he's cleaning is his own. He's out working harder on his car than literally anybody else's. He's scrubbing away. pretty funny. Yeah, it's excellent. Their water pressure seems to be I think they're running they're running one hose from the building and then off that one hose it splits into two hoses. Yeah, well you know, you can't have everything that you want, I suppose. but yes, I mean I think we you know I think this this kind of community thing and it's also I think this year we made it into the Marysville Garage. So there's a guy. Let me finish this entance. There's a guy in Marysville. There's a guy. Who actually runs the Marysville Garage Sale like Forum or something, but he's got like this website and he puts together on a week, and I think it was this week, where you can basically say, Hey, I'm having a sale, I'm having a garage sale, and you get put on his map. And he makes a map and then that you can go download that map of places that you could go to. you know, go check out. And so I think we made it on that list this year, which is great. We've tried to get on that list a couple times, but we've been like the date for it just hasn't worked out for us. I think it did work out for us this year, which is which is excellent. It's really funny watching him watching him work. if we had multiple camera angles we'd be showing you guys stuff. But we're the car. And we also don't have multiple cameras. It's so weird just looking at glass that's just getting sprayed with water, which is directly in front of your face. Because it's like, that water's gonna hit me, but it's it's not gonna hit me. Yeah, it does seem like kind of concerning. Just a little bit. Anyways, hopefully you guys are having a good time watching this video. But yeah, I think, you know, we I mean, we don't go to the school anymore. We do have siblings that go to the school, but you know, I think part of the cool thing about the school is that like we have ended up coming back for a lot of the stuff because it is still exciting, it's still fun, and the community the culture of the community is one where it's like you still want to be a part of it. And like we both have real jobs and yes, it's Saturday. But also we podcast on a Saturday. So that that helps. But like we could be doing a lot of other things than just being here, you know, getting the car washed chilling chilling and podcasting here. But part of it is we want to show you guys what like why our community is so awesome. and we we do like advertising for you know for the church, for the school, 'cause we all Boys are out here fighting with water. Spraying each other. Yep. Pretty good. And Joshua's got a trim piece of his car. He's literally just holding a trim piece. Not sure where that came from. Maybe his tailgate. I mean, Sam brought his sister this morning. So to work. I mean, yeah, is that a flex? I don't know. But it it's exciting. It's exciting to be with your people. We think our people are fantastic. So One of the cool things about our location is that it's not actually a great location. it's literally located in the middle of a neighborhood. It's it's good and it's bad. Yeah. So the our main our main building is literally in the middle of a neighborhood. And that is actually not really conducive for anything. Hello. Anything public at least. But everything that's out so out there is 88th Street. in Marysville, it's a pretty big it's a pity pretty big street for for us at least in in our small town of Marysville. and one of the cool things is this building right here, the guard house, is what we call it. It used to be called the table building because they kept tables out here. but there's one cl there's two classrooms that we use during the school day. but this is actually right on the road. And so we have people, hello We have people out there who are working hard. And cash back. Do I want cas no I don't want cash back. Here we go. We've got these got these lovely ladies here working the working the front table. The cash desk. seriously Laura, they haven't locked on around the The biggest rubber duck you've ever seen. So here you go, you can scan here for some payment. You can You can look at these other things. End of summer bash. You won't see this until it comes out. See, all of this is just a big tease, because this is coming out too late for you to really know what's happening. Maybe something. yeah. I mean that is that is atrocious. But this is what you find at this sale is just atrociousness. We had a guy at our church, his brother had a bunch of dress clothes. So this is the most male dress clothes we've ever had. yeah. and this is actually not the old rack either. Sorry guys. There is a whole other rack with series and stuff. All of this came from the same guy. Not all the way down the line, but there's some other stuff outside too. He brought some pants. Here's some Pretty ugly ties in my opinion. Some of them feel pretty ugly. I got a cool some cool ones. You got some cool ones? Apparently there were some Donald Trump branded ties. There are quite a few Donald Trump branded ties. I happened to look at these before they came here. I chose not to get any of them. But if you want Donald Trump ties, too bad you're too late. Maybe next year. Also actually I'm gonna tease you guys with a new thing actually are some pretty nice. you see that? No, it's too fast. But that's the new school sign. And there's also a new church sign over there, but you didn't see it. So there's actually some pretty nice flannel need. Sam's a flannel guy. I am a flannel guy. If it's good flannel, if it's not good flannel. Straighten the bin. Yeah, we're back. we did just happen to find a legitimate wedding dress. Why? What who donated that? It's kinda crazy. Can you see that, nobody? I literally just shot that blind, so I don't know what you saw. if you're in need of some Christmas items. There's always one Christmas. This snow globe has no liquidity. It's like people thought, you know what we need to do this year, honey, is we need to get rid of all the Christmas stuff if we should get new stuff. You know what we're gonna take it to a summer sale, because that's what everybody wants. And they weren't lying about hot dogs. All sorts of hot dogs. Do I want a hot dog? Yeah. Well, maybe later. It's it's still, you know. Almost 11. Almost 11, so I'm not sure I need a hot dog quite yet, but maybe. So I mean, there is there is good stuff at the sale. It's not, it's not just trash. I mean, there's like that's actually a decent chair, a little damage on the On the handle there. Sam's thinking about purchasing this now. No, I already have a good office share. Nah, see he's he's already prepped. This would be a good one for somebody who does need one though. That's the thing. That is actually very cool. So come here if you need one. So I one of the things, and I this must be reserved items, not sure. But this, like, this is pretty nice. You could flip that. let's go check out the wardrobe actually. is there a wardrobe? I guess we should probably go out to the place where there is like actually advertisements. A lot of stuff in advertisements. Lots of people waving signs and yelling. That is also true. Here are some tools, some gardening tools. I will say one of the things we almost never end up with is power tools. I think we ended up with that like a year or two ago. There was like a power tool and it got snatched up pretty quick. Pretty rare. You get a chair with a cup holder that doesn't work. Also another one with a cup holder that doesn't work. Hey Sam, you know what just realized this is? Portable camping griddle, dude. Portable golf net, baby. nice. Dude. Look at that. Does it work? If it works, I might need to take that home, if you know what mean. yeah, dude. So it might need is there some kind of reinforcing bar? wait a second. Here I'm gonna pause this video and me and Sam are gonna see if we can get that back. We have everybody, here we go. We're back and we're gonna see if this works. And if it works, I might buy it. Because as you can see, I took a nice divot here, but because this ground is really dry and whatnot, we ended up with quite a bit of debris. Just kidding, it's called debris guys. S is silent. and so I'll I'll hit one more shot, but part of the problem is when you hit it like that, I'll just hit a little chip shot. But you know when you hit this, you end up with a decent amount of trash just kinda laying around your thing. So you wanna hit off turf mat, but overall I'm gonna have to rate this a solid, honestly probably a solid 9.2. I think because there's no turf to try it out on, that's tricky, but how are they gonna know that? Nob nobody would know that when it's getting donated. So I'm gonna hit one more shot just for the heck of it. Yeah. Alright guys, after nice little testing period there, we're gonna go find probably just two two of the students here. And we're gonna see if they can where's Sam? there he is. we're gonna see if they can go find us what they think is the best item. Okay, and lo and behold, our siblings, Jane, are you pa are you able to get up out of this table? Are you able to like do something else here just for second? Like two minutes. Two minutes.
