Kyle Glass: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Pro Try News, aka Tech Support. ⁓ we are twenty minutes into our scheduled recording time, but we have just now hit record. ⁓ usually it's Mark giving Pat a hard time, but we we had a doozy one today. You guys I wanna I'm gonna own this. I am not at my normal location, okay? So the Wi Fi situation Got me off to a little bit of a rocky start. I realized we had some technical malfunctions. I'm coming in today now on my phone on 5G. I don't know what else to say. Well, Pat, like it wasn't just the Wi-Fi because you're on your phone and you said, I'm worried about the battery. And we said how much you got? You said 20%. And we said put it in low power mode. And you went, how do I do that? It's true guys. I'm you know what, there's some stuff I'm great at and there's some stuff that I've got opportunity and to improve upon. And tech skills could be one of those things. One thing you are great at, bike racing. Did you not just get a podium place on a masters? Yes, I did. ⁓ I raced this morning in the US Masters National Criterium. I was age group thirty five to thirty nine and I was fifth place. So I'm I'm over the moon with that. I'm told that my dear coach and and really good friend just won the forty five to forty nine. So an amazing weekend so far for our team. That's awesome. Nice. That's great, Pat. Congrats. Congrats, Pat. Guys, big big big weekend. You know, it it it does kill me to think that like we're going to the moon again. we're solving like all these w we got AI that can just build websites overnight, but Pro Tri News cannot get their audio sorted. It it's crazy. We need to fix it guys. And I'm in a I'm in an IBIS budget hotel on my AirPods. Ironically, the ibis budget hotel's Wi-Fi is more than three times as strong as the Wi-Fi I can get in our house. I did watch pretty much a lot of triathlon this weekend, though. And mainly though, I tell you the person that's been busiest this last week, Jillian, we've been bashing out graphics on niece cancelled, seventy point three knees cancelled, Frankfurt Shorten, just drama all week. I guess pretty tough week for Iron Man, you would have to say, right? Yeah. ⁓ definitely. Definitely. We we do we do want to hit into that. Kyle, how was your week? Real quick. ⁓ my week was great. ⁓ I've been working on packing up my house and moving, so it's been very busy. ⁓ but it was rewarding in a way. The Oklahoma Sooners baseball team, which I'm not I'm not gonna say that I'm a huge baseball fan, but they won the ⁓ college world series, so national champs in baseball for for OU. It's a great week. And then ⁓ yeah, getting packed up to ⁓ head to Roth next weekend. Pat Lemieux here. ⁓ guys, I gotta say I'm really thrilled about the podium result I had at Masters Nationals. I'm really ⁓ look, I'm proud of the training that I've done, but I've had some breakthroughs and I'm gonna tell you where one of them came from. Certainly nutrition, precision, fuel, and hydration. Their gels have been an absolute game changer for me. Whether it's the PF thirty straight gel or the PF thirty with caffeine. Today I raced with two of the caffeine gels. Those have 100 mils of caffeine in each of them. But the deal is these gels have no flavor. I get zero stomach issues with them. And every time I'm excited to take to take them on board. So look, don't just take my word for it. Go go to precisionfuel and hydration.com. Use code PTN15 at checkout. And look, you'd be doing me and my crew in a huge, huge favor if upon checkout. in the how did you hear about us section, you typed in Pro Tri news from the big man in blue. Thank you. Well, I think the biggest news of the week ⁓ was and is first off, Iron Man Nice getting canceled, ⁓ just due to the simple fact that the weather is extreme. ⁓ so l let's touch base on that real quick. Mark, I know it's really hot there. ⁓ I I I feel bad for Iron Man in a sense, but also too, I think the biggest issue is is that let's say ninety five percent of the people could have finished the race and was like, ⁓ we could manage. But then you got the five percent of the people that would s DNF and say it's way too hot. How could Iron Man do this? Or someone get hurt or get a heat stroke and it's I feel like it's them that the reason they can't race, but I don't know. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Do you do you mind if I step in here and probably we gotta split these two issues? Because both of them are a little bit different and nuanced, right? So the cancellations that happened in Nice, that was came down from the French government, right? That was a that was a decision that was separate of Iron Man. So let's ⁓ it was. Yeah. And separate from the mayor. Completely unrelated. So obviously it was just terrible timing of we learned about the cancellation of the twenty eight and thirty races that were booked for seventy point three worlds. You would think conspiracy theory would would have you put all of these together, but not the case. The cancellation of the race this weekend was done from on high. Separate from the decision that had to be made in ⁓ Germany with the shortening of the race. So I think we just want to probably clarify and specify those two issues. Those were obviously it was the same heat wave that that started them, but a different group of decisions ultimately that one Iron Man has some control over and some variables that they're thinking about, and two, that they have no jurisdiction over when the region just says, Hey, we are not doing it, we're not doing this here. Well yeah, I mean it's simply put, the French it got hot and they surrendered straight away. And the Germans persevered. I it's ⁓ it's a it's a story as old as time. Are you are you talking about the mayor of that town that surrendered and just said, you what, you guys are all swimming in the canal, I don't even care anymore, just go. We there's no way we can stop you guys. Just go. Just go. Okay, ⁓ okay. Well ⁓ we'll we'll just move past that joke really quickly. Yes, the f the by by the sounds of the French situation, they they just didn't really have a choice because it comes down to infrastructure and available ambulances, available police on the street, available all that sort of stuff. So the French government said it's ⁓ no, you can't do this. It's interesting though, because it shows their priorities a little bit, because they'll run tour de France stages in absolutely horrendous heat. And it also begs the question a little bit, as as our world continues to hot up and every year Europe breaks temperature records. We we had the hottest days in June, three days in a row in Europe this year. This is a problem that's not going away. And it it it speaks to the longevity of our sport if we don't adapt to these situations. Do you change race dates? Is the is do you switch you know, is the European summer no longer when you want to hold these races? Is you know. That kind of thing becomes a longer-term issue. It sounds like Iron Man in France really had no choice. It's unfortunate for them in Nice because there's all that stuff in the media about the mayor saying we're not gonna do this, we're not fun in this, and then the first chance they have to have a big race there, that's cancelled. It doesn't bode well, but I will say the Nice one does sound completely out of their control, at least. Yeah, 100%. And ⁓ on top of the the cancellation that came through the day before was when they announced that seventy point three World Championship will not be there in twenty twenty eight or twenty thirty. So now Iron Man has to find a new venue for that, which is gonna be I mean, I think there's a lot of niche fatigue. Like I I think there's not a lot of people that want to talk about it, but I think there is quite a bit of niece fatigue within the age group ranks. ⁓ and probably even more so it just in the industry itself. So it's probably a good thing maybe that this is a last year for seventy point three World Championships in Nice. It they've filled a great pocket for what Ironman needed at the time, which was splitting the the genders and coming out of the pandemic and having so many people qualified and whatnot. So ⁓ it's gonna be one of those things that we look back on as part of like Iron Man lore and history of the sport. ⁓ but I for one I'm I'm glad that this is the last year that we're racing. in Nice for Except World Change. We had one of we had one of our best weekends there together. It was the four of us. No wives in tow, no kids in tow. And we just got to jam. What a cracking weekend that weekend. That is true. Now we just have to have either Pat or Mark leave their mark in ⁓ in Nice like we did. Or sorry, Pat or Talbot leave their mark in Nice like we did Mark crashing on a e bike. Do people know the story that you would still be a niece if it wasn't for Talbot? Have I said that publicly on the podcast? I don't think have. I don't know. I don't think I have, but I'm about to. And me, ⁓ Kyle, ⁓ Bjorn and a few other blokes went out. I think it was on the Saturday, maybe before the race, wasn't it? No, it was Friday night, because it was before bike checking. It's Friday night, yeah. And ⁓ we had quite a lot of beers. And if you don't know Bjorn Giesman, the pro triathlon coach ⁓ manager of ⁓ he runs one of the biggest triumphant companies in the world. I've never seen anyone that can drink beer like that. And Carl, you know, came toe to toe for a while. And he popped himself in a taxi to get home. He got ejected for the taxi for one reason or another. And he stumbled into the streets of Nice on his own, forlorn, lost, suffering. And he couldn't make it home. And he just laid down by the side of the road to die. A victim to the night of Nice. ⁓ my god, we've got if you're on video, there's a photo on the screen. But luckily, he's on the side of the road. He's complet I I I tracked his location and found him on the side of the road in Nice. Look at that. His long term best friend has him on Find My Friends, was worried about him that he wasn't home. And Talbot came into the night like Batman out of the fog and rescued him. And then of course the next morning I got to make the joke where it's like Kyle's, you know, he's just absolutely just having a morning. And I was like, What do you think? We go drink some beers. And he's like, ⁓ before we get on to the racing, one, I was ejected from the taxi because I threw up. ⁓ I threw up on the street. ⁓ Peyton Lieto stayed at the Airbnb with us and he ⁓ guests came in in the middle of the night and I was naked on the bathroom floor and th and I'd also cooked on the bathroom floor. And then I was hung over the entire day and made it to Bike Chicken like an hour before we finished. So No, it was excellent. It was a it was a great weekend. We had fun. But ⁓ yeah, now Iron Man gets to look for a world championship venue for twenty twenty eight and twenty thirty. Obviously twenty seven is gonna be in Chattanooga and twenty nine's gonna be in Oman. And speaking of cancellations, Iron Man Frankfurt was also on this weekend. ⁓ the before we move on quick, can we talk about what Iron Man's doing for the Nice cancellation? Yeah. ⁓ so For age groupers, I believe they're still working on a ⁓ contingency plan solution for them. ⁓ but I got a message that for the pros, ⁓ if you registered as a single ⁓ race, you'll get a refund from that for that as a professional athlete 'cause you have an option to do that rather than paying for the yearly nit membership. They're also allowing you to transfer the registration to any seventy point three or Ironman race ⁓ including the closed ones, which is pretty good for the pros. And providing a thousand dollar travel assistance to support participation in a new event, but it excludes the seventy point three or the Iron Man World Championship. Now this seventy point three World Championship slot, this one that was left for the female ⁓ racers, that's now gonna roll to seventy point three Sweden this weekend. ⁓ So if you're if you were slated to race Nice now you just transfer it to Sweden and they're gonna basically award one knee slot from that group of people and then o additionally a s standard seventy point three ⁓ for the world championship for twenty twenty seven 'cause that's the first qualifying races for twenty twenty seven. Pretty freaking cool. Like I people knock Iron Man all the time, but that ⁓ for me that that's pretty huge. I think it's just it's in line with what we saw with the punctures in Hamburg. I think it's this notion that you customer service seems to matter now. And it's a you know, that's the way you can hype your prices. You know, you you can't charge what they do without delivering a good customer service. And that's something they've fallen foul of in the past and they're trying to rectify it. But to see that then reflect in the pros when there's there's not the same tangible revenue for them from the pros. It's more like, is the marketing worth it? It's cool to see. And I would also say there were no massive names on the list in Nice. There are a couple of good athlete really good athletes. But it's it's not like they need to fear their social media or anything. I just I think is a really positive thing. And some people say ⁓ the you know the the thousands not gonna cover it. Yeah, but honestly two years ago you'd have got nothing. So because it is like That's the other thing is in the event industry, not not Iron Man not defending Iron Man, not defending events industry like racing industry, whatever. In the events industry, there's a clause that says act of God. This would fall under that and then they could just say, See y'all later. Yeah. So pretty pretty cool that Iron Man's doing that. But if you were slated to race the Iron Man or if the seventy point three, ⁓ Iron Man is, I believe, working on a contingency plan and and coming up with a solution for that. So It's so distracting with Pat on like he's got about eight pixels on his screen and he's in absolute hysterics and I don't know what's going on. I think I think he just finished the story about ⁓ me throwing up in the taxi and niece. ⁓ is that what this video is? Yeah, maybe, yeah. Hey PTN listeners. They've got three models right now, many more coming. Check them out. Let us know what you think. speaking of cancellations, Iron Man Frankfurt was on this weekend and they didn't cancel. It was very hot there as well. Didn't cancel, they decided to shorten the course and on your left threw up a video of I thought it was gonna be a little bit more dramatic, but a couple of people booing in the audience as ⁓ Paul Kay had announced that they were going to shorten the course. ⁓ I would say the ones that really got away with it were the athletes that weren't wanting to do a later on Iron Man. I mean, probably helpful for them that they didn't get to ⁓ have to suffer in the heat. That I mean, that could have if you went to the well at this an event this hot, that could really hurt your Kona prep or chance and Kona. So good on them they did that. ⁓ kind of indifferent, but Yeah, it was a i thoughts on that before we get into the results. it's interesting. I like unless it's forced upon them, I don't know where you make that decision. Because like you then hold your world championships as an event that like basically identifies your brand. Like you hold that in the worst possible conditions that any human can race in and they Enjoy publicising reels of people passing out by the road and DNFing. So, like, I I can only assume that was part in part influenced by German authorities as well. Because otherwise, like it's a weak decision and it's weird. ⁓ because Kona's worse. I because you don't know how hot Frankfurt's gonna be. I mean, today it actually probably wasn't as bad as it was sl meant to be. I was gonna say slated because Carls kept saying slated. ⁓ excuse me. So yeah, I hope it was influenced by German authorities, because otherwise, like next time they get someone dropping out of a race with heat injury, I don't want to fucking see it on your social media. If you really care about people's welfare and that's why you shorten these races, let's not now make a spectacle out of Kona's horrendous heat. Because the event in Cone is dangerous. There's no doubt about it. Like it's a dangerous sport. And you let people take that responsibility. I guess you could argue yes, they qualify for it. So they are seasoned. But a lot of the people aren't. We all know that. We all know you can buy your entry there with enough races and s stuff like that. Yep. so yeah, and then the shortest in the distance. Do you want to do a lap on the points now or should we do it after? I think I think just because we're thinking is the shout Also shout out to the people that sent us the ⁓ volunteers email because that's how we knew that the race was shortened before everyone else. So shout out to people that keep communicating and sending us stuff. ⁓ obviously it it puts us in a in a little bit of a weird spot because now we're like, Well, is this official or is it not official? And so ⁓ but it makes for getting the information out faster. And we were right, so And also I mean enough people come in here and call us fucking pro Iron Man news. So just because Iron Man got upset that we broke their news for them, we give you enough kudos, chill out, don't be having to go at Kyle. It's all good. Kyle got smacked on the back of the hand pretty hard for posting the volunteer email that had gone out. Well he's like Well we've only we've only got five, I think, unanswered emails in the last couple of months. So it's like, hey, you know It's on ⁓ it. could have emailed them, but we don't get an email back anymore. So it's fine. no, I think look, Mark, what you were saying makes a ton of sense in what probably needs to be identified here is like a much clearer threshold because you make the point around Kona, right? And did it e was it gonna exceed that or not? And and and the reality is is that Kona's the benchmark for What you've got to be prepared to race in. Now, again, I go back to what we said earlier. If the country that's hosting it makes a different decision, understood. But I don't think we have total clarity here on where this decision was made and how it's being made and how it will be made going forward. Now, the second order effect of that, which we talked about quite a bit internally, was what are the Pro Series points do? And for me. Moving forward, this is similar to like when a race gets changed to a duathlon or the swim is shortened. The athletes that registered for Frankfurt shouldn't be penalized because something happened at that race. So I'm I'm I'm pretty firm in the camp of if you're going to do an Iron Man and it's not that full distance, it's gonna remain a full five thousand points. Yeah. I I agree. I agree. I agree, but I like an idea I had. The winner went there to score five thousand points, everyone went to try and score five thousand points. But what happens is the people that actually 'cause Casper, like I think he said said to maybe you or Talbot Carl, Talbot or Carl, ⁓ was he a one he had a one if it was a sprint or an ultra man. He was just the best athlete in race. The difference is the gaps are way closer. So I wonder if the actual fairest thing to do for those not in Frankfurt or in this affected race is if the distance is shortened, the second gets worth more, i.e., for every second behind the winner, you lose 1.5 points or 1.25 points. To extend the gap a bit in points. Because there's people finishing fifth here who would in fact have been fifteen minutes behind the rate he was going, but they're gonna score unbelievable points in the series and move ahead of these people. I wonder if you move like the the percentage shortened, do you change the amount of that one point? Now I know that's complicated and they probably don't want to get into that 'cause it's hard to articulate. But in my head, that's probably the fairest way to do it. But but Casper deserves five thousand points, obviously. That's what he went for and he would have got it anyway. Yeah, I I talked to a couple of the athletes that w weren't there that are going for the pro series. ⁓ not just Trevor Foley, talk to other athletes. ⁓ but they some said they should limit it to four thousand points and then do minus one point per second, which is what they do right now. Some s others said two points per second. But in the end, I mean, the gaps were were quite big. Like obviously it wasn't as big as it would have been for for the full, but the gaps were larger like even than I thought that they would be. I think maybe because like if you shorten a because it's crazy hot, the gaps go out to like Kona gaps anyway, right? Kona gaps are always giant because they become way more attritional. Yeah. I just wonder if it's because there's like road closures and you have to shorten it and you end up with ten people finishing within like thirty seconds or whatever. Yeah. I mean Vince lost four minutes at Iron Man Texas and in this race he lost five and a half. So it's like in the end, it's probably pretty close to what the results would have been anyway. Maybe I just think I'm gonna I'm gonna interrupt here. I I think that if we're on an athlete advisory panel for Iron Man, this issue is really far down. The intent was is that everybody planned to do an Iron Man. And when Mother Nature or some other force major happens, nobody anticipated or expected to do that or to to be thrown that curve ball, right? And so I just think like if for some reason next year five of the 18 Pro Series events get shortened, changed, whatever, then we probably need to bring in some sort of protocol. But until that happens, I think the points remain the same and there's other things that we want to work through first. Totally disagree, Pat, based on what we've always said. They only solve problems reactionary. And what you're suggesting is wait till there's a giant problem comes up and then we'll solve it, which is what we've bashed them for about motos, drafting distance, wheels, etc. So let's get a policy in place now. And then then then when this issue actually arises and there's five races cancelled, there is also a policy. Do you think we need, but do you think we're at that point? Do you think that this is truly a problem? Because I think that like what Kyle just said, Vincent Louis gets fourth in Iron Man, Texas. He loses four minutes. He gets fifth at whatever today and he or whatever you know, and he's down five and a half. Like the math doesn't really support this theory. Yeah, I think the math perfectly supports it. What what place did Vincent Louis finish today? Vincent Louis finished in Where was he today? He was fifth place. Fifth. Where was he in Texas? Fourth. Like the people ahead of him, Stepney, Benito, where were they? He beat them. Yeah, they beat those people. They didn't. He had a bad rate. So you can't cite one bloke's time and say that. You know, like Casper absolutely eased off the gas. He would have still had a big margin. The margins were there. But like you can't take one set of results and say like the that that doesn't Makes sense. Like the gaps are smaller at seventy point three distance, which the this is closer to than Iron Man. Every single other race you look at. If you look at any Iron Man versus any seventy point three, gaps are way closer. So if you award five thousand points, which you should do to the winner, I'm not saying we need to lower all the points. And I'm not I'm not even I'm not gonna die on a hill over this, but let's just come up with a policy that's in stone rather than say let's wait until it becomes an issue. Okay. Okay, so then what do we do if Little Elm is a pro series and just the swim gets shortened? How do we how do we then qu quantify those points? Because that was a that was cut down. So I'm not I'm not arguing with you. I'm just trying I'm just trying to say like what are what are the thresholds that need to be met where we engage with a different point structure? If thirty three percent of the time is cut from a race based off last year's previous winner's time versus this year's previous winner's time. then the points will stand that you lose one point five per second. Something like that. Just so that you don't end up going. I like that. It would work, right? 'Cause there's races sometimes where they can't 'cause what happens if the whole swim's cancelled? Do you still award five thousand? I don't know. Is there a But it's not the policy. They it's the same as they gotta do It's the same as KQs though. Like they're not gonna say, ⁓ we're not a awarding the Kona qualifications because there was no swim this time. That's different though, because those athletes are all still in the same bucket. They're not competing against athletes that aren't in the bucket they're racing on that day. Yeah. Whereas in the pro series they are. I don't think there's a big issue here, by the way. All the best people scored great results, you know. We'll go through the results in second. Like see, I was I was so nervous before the like Not nervous, like, who cares? It's a freaking pro series. I was in the camp of like this this could affect the pro series in the end. And then after the race I'm like, I don't think this is really gonna take that much into account into the pro series at all. By nervous, Jimmy, you were worried that Trevor wouldn't be able to win the pro series and then when you look to the results and Trevor could you know, he's fine. You were like, ⁓ just chill. Don't worry about it. Yeah, that's really what happened. The ra the race got underway. ⁓ the swim was really, really pushed by Casper Svetniak the first loop and then Jamie Riddle came around, took a turn on the second loop and first out of the water. Then the boys got to work on the bike and they were moving. It looks like once again there's a lead vehicle problem at Frankfurt, ⁓ unfortunately. ⁓ but I don't think it would had too much to play, but I do know one thing, Gustaf Eden looked absolutely incredible on the bike. I mean, he is going to be a weapon in Kona this year. ⁓ the bike was definitely shortened. The fastest bike time was by the Frenchman. I'm just gonna say Nathan. I don't know if you guys ever sometimes when you like read the comments, people get so mad that we can't professionally pronounce everyone's names correctly. So If I can't read it all, I will just say like the Frenchman. Yeah, Nathan. The guy's Frenchman. Nathan. He's definitely Nathan. Exactly. Yeah. ⁓ but he raised f phenomenal. ⁓ 241 bike split. What does that mean? Nothing, I guess. But he he was riding fairly, fairly well. They got onto the run relatively quick. ⁓ Caspar hunted him down and the two Norwegians ran away with it with Anthony O Anth ⁓ there he is himself. We were just talking about you. About how shit your run was and how you looked tired from the start. We we really think we're talking about it. If this was a full Iron Man, no way you win. Yeah, no. I was lucky that it was shortened down. So I were ⁓ completely cooked there on the last lap. You were jogging the last lap. You were jogging the last lap. You were jogging the last lap. Yeah, I know. ⁓ I don't think I would manage to finish, actually. How how hot was it, Caspar? I heard people said it was hot, but I didn't find it hot. Well okay, you should also tell maybe tell the audience that you're literally wearing trash bags and sweatsuits the days going into the race outside. Yeah. We were ⁓ prepping for the heat. I also saw Mugnus was ⁓ motive or not motivated but like ⁓ You were ⁓ doing the same as ⁓ I did last year. Yeah. Doing ⁓ heat prep before the race. So ⁓ yeah, that was cool to see. Speaking of slots, Antonio Benito, Caspar Svetniak, Jamie Riddle, two slots in seven days. That's another world record, Kyle prepare a graphic. That's pretty good ⁓ Jan Stratman, Magnus Ditlev. This is cr I mean I'm gonna be honest. If this was a full Iron Man, he was losing a lot of time on the bike and on the run. I I don't know if Magnus gets a slot if it's a full Iron Man. Well yeah, but I kinda wanna talk with Casper about his race as we've got him on right now. I mean it feels a bit it feels a bit rude for Casper to join us. We could ask Casper that. We could ask Casper do you think Magnus is washed? I think it would be a rough day for him. ⁓ I were talking with him in the car afterwards that ⁓ he had a rough day. So I think it would maybe be difficult, but also the distances would be also bigger in general. So ⁓ and a lot can happen in Iron Man. So ⁓ yeah, he could either do better or worse or the same. So like ⁓ yeah, you never know. It would be a long day with the heat and everything. So but today also the pace was higher on the bike. It was like ⁓ seventy point three. ⁓ like the first hour they pushed quite hard. ⁓ and ⁓ yeah, then it settled settled down. And Casper, with respect to the heat and then obviously the shorter distance, like it is a little bit counterintuitive because okay, yes, they make the race shorter, but you do also just go harder, which effectively makes you hotter. Did you did you like I mean you're aware of this, you're thinking about it, but I mean, did you do any countermeasures to c to kind of think about that? Or were you like, Look, I gotta race this race no matter what the temperatures are? ⁓ I was thinking like it's probably smart to go a bit conservative out at least the first lap. So ⁓ yeah. I just went out in a like three twenty pace and then like if someone were following or I didn't catch up to the guy in front, then I would need to run faster the last lap. But then I had like one fifteen after a lap on Gustav. And then I were calculating that like he needed to run quite some faster, but then suddenly it popped up to two minutes or something and then I yeah. We're in quite good control and Basically for the whole run. So yeah, I could have run quite some faster if ⁓ I ⁓ was challenged to do it. Yeah if you had to do it. Yeah, if I had to do I like the way by the way you Yeah, exactly. I liked the way that you just called him the guy in front, because just before you were coming on we were all trying to pronounce his surname and we all failed miserably. So we're just gonna call him Nathan, because that's his first name. That's an English name. I ⁓ I saw him in Exem Burma, so I knew that he was a strong biker. ⁓ so yeah. Do you think he got helped by the front? I because Talbot was hinting it was all about the front bikes, but he stayed, he was like five seconds in front for long periods, and then he got caught and went away again. I think he was just drilling himself on the bike, wasn't he? Yeah, maybe. And when you first get away on the second lapter, it's hard to see where he is with all the age groupers along the road. but yeah, I don't in in the start it looked like he got a little bit help from the car in front and with the motorbikes. So I were about to tell the referee that the car need to go away and the motorbikes need to keep more distance. But then it loosened up and the car went further in front and it wasn't an issue. So ⁓ But yeah, he were pushing quite hard in the hills, and then I won't say soft peddling, but it was quite much easier on the flats and the fast sections ⁓ than in the hills. So then yeah, he got distance in the hills and then we ⁓ peddle him in again on the fast sections. So yeah. And so with this now you you basically done a a A glorified 70 point three this weekend with a hard swim. If you'd known this, would you have been tempted by Roth next weekend and then vice versa? Do you think KB when she'd race this and then just gone to fucking Roth as well? Because he seems he seems arrogant enough to do that. Yeah, we are ⁓ talking a little bit about if I should maybe do Roth, but ⁓ yeah, we'll see. I We'll see. ⁓ no, I ⁓ I must be also thinking smart. I can't be too greedy with ⁓ the races. So ⁓ the most important is Kona. ⁓ and be ready there. And with the half distance here, yeah now I got a lot of points. ⁓ so it's good for the pro series and ⁓ it would be nice to test myself on a full distance since that's what's the most important distance this year for Kona and everything. But With the heat here, ⁓ like it was supposed to be quite hot, I didn't feel it so much. And with the heat in Kona, ⁓ I felt in quite good control and I think if if I had run ten to fifteen seconds slower per K, I would ⁓ still be running very fast on a marathon. So I think I got some good answers also for the road ahead towards Kona. With without all the suffering that running a marathon that temperature gives you. You kind of answer the questions without the legacy suffering. Yeah. Yeah. So ⁓ what do you ⁓ but yeah it it it it is a long day, as I said, and a lot can happen. But I feel quite confident in the work I've done and forward. Do you do you feel do you feel you will have a challenger for the Iron Man Pro Series? I mean I know of course there's a it's there's a lot of racing to go, but do you look at that and are you are you eyeing that or are you just saying I don't whatever happens, I don't care, I want to win a world title again. I don't care so much about the pro series. I care about Kona. The Pro Series is a bonus. Yeah. It's ⁓ Kona, Nice, Frankfurt, Pro Series. So we'll will we see you will you see all three of you and Nice, or just you and Nice, or have you guys all decided yet? All of us too. Everyone. Yeah. ⁓ that right that's so good, by the way, Casper, because we did a podcast and Kyle wasn't on. And Kyle was all upset because basically Trevor won a race and we we did it and he wasn't on, so we couldn't suck off Trevor on the podcast. But we said about we said about how KB was You know, a strong contender for Nice and Kyle got all high and mighty on our group chat and said, He's not doing it. He's not doing it. He said he wasn't doing it on YouTube. You guys don't know what you're talking about. And here we are, Carl. Here we are. You guys are right and I was wrong. Yeah, it's gonna be a hard race in Nice. So ⁓ yeah. You got you got some big hitters there. Are you thinking about maybe doing placid or no? No to get another iron race or no. He's racing rock this weekend. How could he race placid as well? That's true. Yeah, that's true. I I I've not said yet that I will race rot. I need to think. Yeah. So ⁓ yeah. We'll need to ⁓ see. So ⁓ either you see me there or not. Yeah. It's gonna be a surprise. Congratulations on your race. European champ. Well our man European champ. Yeah. In a distance. Ninety point three or whatever. Yeah. Ninety three point three. That's right. Yeah. And and and before we go, ⁓ who who if you race, who wins Roth? If you don't race, who wins Roth? Good question. if I race Christian, me Sam. Yeah. Christian Sam ⁓ Yonas. Jonas. I think that's pretty I think that's pretty predictable pick that that yeah, that's of no one can argue with you on that. I think you've got Christian anyway. I think he's washed up now. Yeah, I agree. ⁓ yeah, we ⁓ we have said like we give Christian the wins early season and then me and Gustav takes it in the end. As long as I'm first in corner. Gustav's can go as usual. And he just have 70 point three. What was it? St. George. Doesn't count. Doesn't count. Yeah. So ⁓ they can get that. I take Kona. Then I'm happy. First guy to ever win a world title on two places. Yeah. Like ⁓ Gustav is the only one having the OG win. Yeah. Me and Kristen has just ⁓ yeah. You guys have the Timu World Championships. Timu world championships. ⁓ it's still a world championship, but like it's not the OG. Like ⁓ no, we saw we saw how many sponsors you got after your after your win last year in Nice to you don't have to you don't have to mess with us. No, but ⁓ yeah I w I I want ⁓ I want to have that one. So yeah. The OG. Enjoy the win. Enjoy the wakes. Thanks for joining the show. Thanks, Casper. Well what when will when will we know? When will you let us know if you're gonna race Roth or not? ⁓ I will text you. Okay. But ⁓ yeah. I'm ⁓ I'm quite sure I will not race, but like it is a possibility. So Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Nice. As I said, I must not be too greedy. Yeah. So ⁓ yeah. That's it. Nice. Well thanks for joining. We'll ⁓ we'll we might catch up after off. Yes. All right, we'll see ya. See you casting. Thank you. ⁓ what a legend. The only people we have that randomly join our podcast halfway through are just Norwegian blokes. They're fucking great. They're just clearly he's must be happy off his win. ⁓ he's he's absolutely flying. His run looked insanely easy. Like the way I I know he was working. I know he he looks back a bit, but his form, his cadence, everything about it, he was clearly the fastest person in that race. He covered gaps in the bike when he had to. It I so nice to see like he was the third, you know, favourite Norwegian for Nice. And then he just dusted them off easily. But he's not it it wasn't a one shot, was it? It wasn't like a flash in the pan. We kinda knew it if you followed short course how good Kasper was. And the Norwegians told us a bit before the race, but we probably didn't listen enough. And seeing him this year, you're like, Yeah, that boy's the real deal. Yeah. I also love that he doesn't wear a white kit with black bottoms anymore. He wears a kind of a blue standout tri kit with black bottoms. Well that's because you've got to squeeze all the sponsors on he's got now, isn't it? Like he's in a fucking big leagues, like you just said. Yeah. Here's ⁓ here's an interesting note real quick before you leave Frankfurt. This year it was a hundred and two degrees Fahrenheit. I believe that might be forty ish esque in Celsius and eight mile an hour wind, thirty-five percent humidity. Twenty nineteen, really big year, Jon Ferdino one, hundred and two degrees, fifteen mile an hour wind, and thirty percent humidity. So this was even hotter than twenty nineteen. And I bring up twenty nineteen because it was a really important year. That's when Sarah True was leading this race, and I would say probably a crazy career ending DNF for Sarah True that she was never able to race in the heat again. So when you talk about a safety aspect an issue, it's not only for the amateur athletes out there and yes they can do it, but there is a moment in when you need to protect and these athletes will race for the win and go to the well and then you see someone like Sarah who it screwed up something or hyperthalmos or whatever it is that I don't Sh anytime it was ever warm, she was never able to compete again. So yeah. Just just a ⁓ a note. But should we do another lap on Magnus? ⁓ He he didn't have a good race, but I don't I think that he's he's on his way back. We need some more answers from him. We'll s we'll see him again. I liked someone posted on our forum on ProTry News dot com. If you haven't been on our website, we have our own ⁓ forum where you do podium picks, you can look at results, all that. ⁓ and people were kind of going back and forth. Someone posted and said, Are we fooled into thinking Magnus is elite? what are you talking about? Definitely elite. He has the He has like the he had the f ⁓ my wait, hang on, we've got some absolute hot tea on the screen right now. This is the whole thing. Hey, we're gonna have to we're gonna have to blank this. We've got bloody hell, some absolute MILF has just walked into the room. ⁓ Did I say I'm not sure we can let that word go out. But Pat's lovely wife has walked in and swimming. Can't stand, she's so pissed. She's so you guys gotta watch on YouTube. She's trying to she came in. We're you know, we're staying at her in law's house. She comes storming in for phone chargers and she's like, ⁓ Gwen, you how was your swim? Yeah, but in Patrick's fine, Pat you've got six megapixels is like watching I was about to say. It's like trying to download XYZ on ⁓ dial up internet, you know. Jeez elite. ⁓ my god. Anyway, anyway, what are we talking about? Magnus is elite or not elite? ⁓ my god, sorry. Whoever the fuck thinks Magnus isn't elite, he up until what, KB? He had the fastest ever I am distance time, double rough champion, second in niece, second or s maybe third in niece. Second in Kona, he's won fra he's won so many races. He's won a T one hundred race, doesn't he, as well? Yeah. Yeah, he won the Miami race. He's elite. He's like one of the only athletes that has won a T one hundred race, a seventy point three, and Iron Man. Yeah, but the guy ⁓ ridiculous did what exactly what he needed to do. He bagged his Kona slot and he's gonna be there and he will play a big factor in Kona. So there is no disputing the fact he has had a rough eighteen months. That's reasonable to say. Like 'cause you know, he dropped out of he was sick before ⁓ niece. Yeah and he dropped out during it. He then got sick for a training camp this year, dropped out of Texas. Like he's having a tough run of it. But he's a young kid. He got into the sport late. His swimming, he got out of a swim twenty-two seconds down or something. I don't know what he was doing in transition. I think he probably had a little sleep in transition. But he, you know, he was like That's the that's a career defining swim. He was twenty-two seconds down off Jamie Riddle and Vincent Lewis. Yeah. So his swimming's in the place it is. We know he can ride a bike. Let's not be worried if Magnus Ditlev's cycling isn't gonna come back. Yeah. The guy will be excellent, come Cona. And if he's not, he'll be back next year 'cause he's so young. So yes, he's elite. I give him a hard time sometimes, but he's let's not count that guy out. Two more things before we bounce off of ⁓ off of this race. One Thank you to everyone that played podium picks. We had almost a thousand people that did podium picks for Iron Man Frankfurt. There are some errors. ⁓ we're working through those, getting those fixed, so the final standings from that race will be done and scored hopefully in the next couple of days. So ⁓ And then broadcast. Will McCoy, I mean, he steals the show. He's really good. Yeah. And I I don't know how if you're Iron Man you need two to three Wills ⁓ guys that We bum we bum Will so much. I don't know how much we could just keep t saying how incredible Will is. But the broadcast itself was good. Like they use the drone for the swim. They use the drone for going to T one. I I feel like Iron Man's trying to level up their broadcast. Just trying to give them like a little ⁓ little praise for them working hard on. Yeah, this is ASO. They they're the ones that they're the media company for this event and they also do the Tour de France. So they're usually a bit step up for all most Europe races. ⁓ I thought it was BCC Live. They posted on their Facebook that it was that they were doing the broadcast. ⁓ let's just move on to the next topic. Don't think it was let's not get into the argument, shall we? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think I think I will say, I think maybe the issue isn't Iron Man. Maybe it's events in Germany for motos. Is that a thing? Do you guys notice that? Like Hamburg's a bit rocky for it. Frankfurt's always a bit rocky for it. Et cetera. I think ⁓ or is it Europe? I don't know. But it it they're not great. There's a bit there's a lot of like random bikes in groups and stuff, and ⁓ we hit on it last week. We actually had some really good topics and feedback from last week's episode. Yeah, it's Needs to be education. ⁓ and and ⁓ we've done this. Sorry, we did this off. So but I mean you're exactly right. We just saw it again. It it seems to be just a big issue the more motorbikes there is. Yeah, fine. Whatever, whatever. Yeah, yeah. There's two buzzwords in performance sport that we hear all too often. Carbs and protein. Visit the link in the description of this podcast to get fifteen percent off your next order. ⁓ what was the Tizzy race? We're doing that quickly. Yeah, there was a World Cup in Tizivaros. ⁓ this weekend. They did a like a semi final on Saturday and then they did the actual final today on Sunday. ⁓ I mean the biggest news out of that one, Sungar Lehman, he's won this race six times. So basically since COVID he's won this race on the men's side. And then on the woman's side, ⁓ it was ⁓ Fanny Sala the the young gun that She was getting paraded around by Super Try as like the youngest professional athlete for years and years and then now she got her first ⁓ first World Cup win. Taylor Nibbs, second place and then ⁓ Teresa Sinski on the women's side, third place. However, the interesting thing here, if you go to the results page, Tilda Manson was disqualified and I was like, What the heck did she get disqualified for? Swim behavior. There was eight swim behavior penalties. That happened this weekend at the the World Cup in Tizavoros. Crazy. Scrappy. Scrappy. That's strong from Taylor Nib that. I would think that was a bit short and snappy for her. But then I always remember her sprinting to second or whatever it was in the Paris Olympic relay. Like she's got so many strings to her bow, that girl. Yeah. What a performance. Yeah. So is that one week off the back of US national T T champs? Yeah. To then go then go win a She did two sprint sprint races basically this weekend. So she did one yesterday and beat Tilda Manson by like a minute. But then Fanny won the the actual final by like a minute. So Yeah, good for Fanny. Well ⁓ how old is she now? 'Cause I remember seeing her on Super Tribe for a long time, right? Yeah. I I think she It's an odd race this, isn't it? 'Cause it doesn't get the big names, but eighteen. Wow. Yeah. Cute Oscar. That's incredible. Yeah. There's one to watch for you. Yeah. So pretty cool. ⁓ the other race is coming up this weekend. We have do we want to do a topic of the week or do we want to save it for another week? Our audio's a bit rocky. Yeah. Pat's gone and flaunted some Tottie around the screen and already we already gonna be X rated on ⁓ Seventy point three Yon Coping, which is in Sweden. It's seventy point three European Championship. We got Lasse Priester on this one. Fabian Kraft who just won challenge race last weekend. Harry Palmer. That'll Valdemar Solok from Denmark. Our ⁓ the kid who got second at Elsinore. ⁓ you also have Mark Dubrick from the States coming over. Gabriel Sondar, one of the fastest athletes And that's pretty much it on the men's side. On the women's side you have the defending champion after it was rectified, Lena Meisner. And Marjolaine Pierre, Sarah Perez Sala, ⁓ Sarah Spensk. Pretty pretty solid ⁓ field. Meg McDonald. Shout out to Meg. And then the other race is Iron Man Switzerland, where you have essentially it's like an all Swiss ⁓ start list. You got Julie Duron, Imogen Simmons, pretty much going head to head ⁓ racing for some Kona slots. That's gonna be interesting because Julie's one of those ones that the girls, if she makes the start list in Kona, will have to think about. This is a very this is a very Brett Sutton thing. Daniela Reef, go off to Iron Man Switzerland, race Iron Man Switzerland, don't race Not a lot very I want to say a weaker field. Imogen is definitely one to watch. First Iron Man back. ⁓ hey everyone. This is abrupt ending to the episode, so I apologize. We've gotten some recent developments on Challenge Roth. So we didn't want to record and talk about it until we actually had the new start list. Since you heard Casper earlier, and we have rumors of someone else potentially coming to the podcast. So This is the end of the show for now. Make sure you listen to the live stream. ⁓ we will be doing our live show there of All Things Challenge Roth. Hope you guys enjoyed the episode. We'll see you in the next one.
