lg: What's up, everybody? Welcome back to Punch Truck Nerd, the podcast. We're three friends, three amigos, three bambinos. Well, we come together, talk about nerd shit. this week we are talking about transition. Marvel Hall H at Comic-Con. That's what we're gonna talk about today. Big news, right? I bet you've heard everyone say everything, but you haven't heard us talk about it. So strap in. And who are we? Well, my name is Luis Gonzalez, and with me is migs: Miguel Sanchez. lg: that's right, we are gonna talk about Marvel Hall H. Biggest thing on the news, probably on the thumbnail while you clicked it. we're also going to talk about the summer box office update of what's going on with the summer box office, pretty self-explanatory. And then we might just talk fuck around afterwards if you want to stick around, that'd be cool. If not, then we'll see you on the next one. Miguel, let's get into it. Right, you know, migs: Later. Let's lg: Marvel Hall H. Last year they didn't have one. This year they did. initial thoughts from you. migs: Just absolutely riveting reporting, Louise. Thank you. lg: Thank you. migs: Yeah, no, I I was glad to see a a few of the things that they they announced. I was glad that they like got all the Avengers on stage. It was like, yeah, let's like build some hype for this movie, you know? lg: Yeah. migs: I don't know yeah, I don't think you were on the pod, but it was like the trailer for me was a little lackluster. but I know that they revealed a couple of a new trailer with some new clips at Comic Con this year. And I tell you what, man, it looked good. Okay. so it got me hyped, it got me excited. I just love the energy in all age, the screaming, the yelling. yeah, man, I just initial thoughts is Marvel's back, baby. Let's go. lg: All right, my initial thoughts, it was okay. You know what I mean? We've had better. migs: god. lg: I thought you were gonna do that, something like that. You know what I mean? I'm over here. This let me tell migs: No, no, don't don't turn to me lg: you the backstory of what happened on my end. I was I work over at migs: No, no, I'm just good. Good. lg: Comic Con for a certain news outlet, try to find it, and and it was about to come out. Marvel Age, just the hugest thing. We didn't have one last year. I was like, boy, here we go. You know, I've been kinda a little migs: Yeah, yeah. lg: soft on Marvel lately, and maybe I'm gonna get something exciting, something new, something interesting. And I I texted y'all and I was like, guys, I'm I'm we're at the we're at we're at the panel. I'm gonna have the very first when the news hits, I'm gonna text you immediately. So you won't have to hear it from anyone else, guys. I'm your number one guy. Don't ever send me a text saying, Here's the news, because I'm the one sending it to you. okay. A little bit of a little bit of a lore behind that. So anyway, no, I it started and it seemed like they were vamping for a while and then kind of showing old clips. And I was like, okay, I feel like we've been here for a bit. What's going on? A lot of vamping, a lot of like just nothing. And then we got hit with hold on, let me just begin pull it up. Boom. Nope. Boom. migs: Transition. lg: Transition. Ryan Gosling is ghostwriter. So this was migs: Yeah. lg: like, okay, we're having some news now. This is new. This is literally new news. thoughts on this one. migs: Okay, I yeah, I'm glad you kind of prompted me a little bit more because I d I came in a little cold. I did wonder what you thought about the like little skit they did before this where like Kevin Feige came out and he talked to Josh what's his name, the podcaster who like interviews all the Marvel people. and they had lg: is that who that was? I don't even know who he was talking to. I just heard Josh Horowitz or something. Okay. migs: Horowitz, I that's his name. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they had a little bit of a back and forth because he has been asking Kevin Feige about Ghost Rider. So this was like the preamble, like, is he gonna do it? lg: Lot of preamble, a lot of back and forth, a lot of like here they are and you know what? Maybe they're in the back of the audience too. Like just a lot of like steam, you know. Sorry. migs: Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You feel like maybe there's there's not a lot of like you know, like clear vision in Marvel in general and you let and then let's jump into Hall lg: I I think this is tricky. migs: H lg: I I think it's tricky because it's like, listen, you're going to Hall H you expect big things. So there's that setup. Set up. But migs: Amateur hour. Uh-huh. lg: also I respect the idea that they're going out where they're saying next year, no Marvel movies except for Secret Wars, because we want to focus in on that. migs: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. lg: whether that means there's a whatever, whatever, whatever, whatever, whatever, whatever. I think that's good. And I think migs: Okay. lg: that having that focus on what's it called? Doomsday and Secret Wars is also good. I wish that migs: Mm-hmm. lg: there was a little bit more of a I don't know, reveal of a new actor that's gonna be on there for Doomsday or Secret Wars. It just felt like, you know, it has such a high standard to it migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. lg: that when you like plip and plop a few things, it's like, Okay, well, where's the magic a little bit? You know, and it feels like almost when you watch an Apple what's it called, presentation. And like, and here's the new iPhone. And it's the exact same one. It's like, okay. Same everything. Yeah. We expect migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Then it's like the same shape, the same camera, the same screen. It's like this one doesn't even fold. lg: right. We have and there's one more thing. A new computer, Neo. It's like, okay. Well, I mean, it's kind of cool, but like it's nothing, you know? migs: It's not the big thing. lg: It's not the big thing. And so it it's just like it's it's some big shoes for them to fill themselves. migs: Yeah, yeah. lg: but when they got to this, I was like, Okay, we are we're going now. You know, we're we're we're ramping migs: Can I ask you something? lg: up. Yeah. migs: Okay, so big talks about for the the longest time rumor mill fan casting is Ryan Gosling is Ghost Rider. The fans wanted it, the internet's been saying it, okay? Do you feel like this was a little bit of Marvel like Like kind of giving in a little bit, like, well, the fans want it and we think it's a good work, so why not just do it? You know? Do you think it's the best choice? lg: I don't know. I don't know. I'll I'll say this. migs: It's a wait and see approach. lg: It's a wait and see. Because the director of it is Sean Levy, who, if you don't know, he did Deadpool Wolverine. He's also directing the new Star Wars movie. It's like, what's what's it called? Star Cruiser, Starfighter? Starfighter? It seems so obvious. It's like I don't want to say that because it's Star Wars. It can't be Starfighter, you know? It's like what migs: Starfigh Starfighter, right? I'm pretty sure. Brother. It is. It's like ninety nine. lg: What's a synonym for war? You know, like w fight, fighter, star fighter. migs: Yeah. But there we go. lg: and then but he also directed, he also was in partnership with the Duffer Brothers doing Stranger Things. And so he was there from the beginning of season one and all the way to the end season. And so he, you know, he can do spooky things, he can do fun blockbuster. I think there are certain directors that, you know, you hire a gun to hire to like do a big blockbuster movie, and sometimes it doesn't show up. And I feel like Sean Levy's a pretty like he makes an entertaining blockbuster film, you know? He gets the job done and he's reliable. And I think he's just started working with Ryan Gosling. Dipple Wolverine. Fun time. Had mo I had a fun time migs: Dead Deadpool Wolverine made so much money. And it was fun. lg: and money. And I think he just worked with Ryan Gosling recently, a starfighter. Ryan Gosling's a guy, you know, and I think of course people want him to be in Marvel. And so it seems like the stars kind of perfectly align for something like this. and then whether it'll work, I'm just gonna have to wait. Because I'm gonna say this right now is that I have been wrong so many times in this podcast saying this is gonna be bad, this is gonna be good. migs: Sure, sure. lg: Millions of in fact, don't even trust me anymore when I think what I what don't don't migs: Millions. lg: trust what I think at all. Because three months later, I'm gonna be like, God damn, that was the best thing I've ever seen in my life. You know? So I migs: Couldn't wait to Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. lg: I think it's it like I think it hits it just like all the stars perfectly aligned, you know, makes the fans happy. Sean Levy works great with Blockbuster, Sean Levy's worked with Ryan Gosling. You know, I think could there have been something different? Sure. But you know, now that they've been doing bringing back Robert Dunny Jr. as Doctor Doom and bringing Chris Evans, it feels like we're playing it, you know, a little a little safe. In a time migs: Let's play it safe a little. A little safe. A little safe. lg: it it's very interesting because in a time when the multiverse was an opportunity for them to do things that weren't safe and try out different IPs, which they did, you know, it's so migs: Yeah. yeah, yeah. lg: like it I could see it work well on paper, but then The way it was kind of executed. migs: Yep, yep. Th this is a this is a cold take. Everyone's gonna be rolling their eyes when they hear us say this, but it's just like the Disney plus of it all kind of like killed the momentum a little bit. lg: Well, and you know what? And it's like, yeah, let's let's get you more specific. It was the CEO of before Bob Iger. What's his name? Bob he migs: Say it You know it. lg: was also his name was Bob. migs: Fucking Bob. lg: Bob wow, I want to say Bob Costas. That's totally incorrect. no, but I damn. I was gonna give you guys some intel. No, it was it was another Bob. So it was another Bob. He used to run the parks, I think. migs: Other Bob. lg: Other Bob, other Bob, he he was the one who was pushing for all the d all the Marvel stuff to be on Disney Plus. He was pushing all these things like let's maximize everything. migs: Yeah. Well and like COVID and everything, like you understand like why that was like a a a natural push, you know, this the streaming service had just come out. I get it, but it just it it feels like in retrospect you lg: A lot of things on paper were that you get. Yeah. migs: go, it didn't actually work out the way you wanted to. And I think it it weakened the the I don't know, the sauce a little bit, you know, watered it down. lg: Right. Like you said, we already talked about, we don't need to talk to death about it. But a lot I you know, I had a great take about this with Benny, our friend Benny one time one day. I wish I could remember it. but how it's just like I think something to the effect of it would have been cool if in the multiverse of madness, nothing was connected. And that it would have all been single films that you could just jump in, especially because there were so many the multiverse. migs: the multiverse overall. lg: How they were and I migs: I see, I see. lg: don't know if this is a is this a cold take too because you're on you've got your pulse on the internet. This is this is the multiverse saga. Right. How this is migs: No, no, you said multiverse of madness. I was focusing on Doctor Strange for a second. You mean the multiverse. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Not connected. lg: not connected, a more of an opportunity for things to be its own feeling and vibe and to be like, you know, hey, you don't have to watch anything. You can literally just jump in, not having to know. And it's a perfect opportunity to kind of clean the slate and then later do little bits and bobs of like Spider Man far away from home. Or like whatever, and then you can have them come together in this Avengers Doom almost like migs: Listen. lg: a la what if, you know. migs: A little divisive, you know, some liked it, some hated it, but Fantastic Four really was what you're saying, you know, first steps. It was a standalone multiverse movie that now they're pulling into because obviously it's the Fantastic Four. lg: Dog. Doom, yeah. migs: Yeah, yeah. But it's just it's like, yeah, and and really bold choice with that movie, the style, the cinematography, the the it just felt so not Marvel, but could could play in that world. If that makes sense. lg: Right. And I think that was the good shift towards that at at the end of this kind of play of the multiverse of saga. migs: Yeah. A little a little too late, you know what I mean? But but still the idea is there, you know. lg: But and the idea of a multiverse, incredible. Like that would have been so cool. I think migs: Yeah, yeah. lg: it's just, man, you know what? They had like 20, what, one bangers or what I mean, for obviously they had, you know, dips and d and whatever. But for the most part, they told in the it migs: It worked. lg: worked, you know, the sum of it parts made it like enjoyable. So that like you can't migs: Yeah. lg: have a perfect street. We're all human. So let's just be chill. migs: Sure, sure, sure, sure. lg: I'm telling this to myself. But yeah, Ghost Rider, Ryan Gosling. I think it's I have to wait and see. migs: Gotta tell you the other thing the internet's talking about with this is the people are really salty. And I totally understand. You know, like what was it, eight years ago, they were like, Marshal Ali's gonna be Blade. Okay. And then it's like, we can make a Ghost Rider movie, but we can't make Blade happen, you know? Like one is like one is even more far fetched. You know, like he's a flaming skeleton on a motorcycle. We can make that work, but we can't make the dude who's a vampire like slice up some vampires. lg: Vampires. Yeah. migs: It just lg: See migs: it is a little bit of a slap in the face. And it does feel like they've given up on it, but I assume what they're doing now is they're pivoting. Ryan Gosling's ghostwriter will lead into Midnight Suns and then that's where we'll see Blade and fucking Moon Knight and anyone else that they've kind of maybe put in that realm, you know? But I just lg: Perfect opportunity to have a blade with just its own world with the vampires. He's just like, you don't have to mix match. Just have it, just have a blade movie. migs: Guys, Blade was Blade was right there. And to your point about the multiverse, yeah. It really could have just existed. And we could have figured out later how it fit into the whole thing. You know what I mean? No, I know. It's such a cold take. We're giving cold takes tonight, but it just it's it but they're so true though. We're getting it off our chests, you know? Like, lg: Damn. Well maybe get it off our this is a therapy session. You know what I mean? We ha we we're getting it off our chest. migs: fuck, man. Like, where's Blade? Like, let me watch Blade, you know? lg: You can catch him at the end of Eternals, his voice. It migs: His voice. I remember telling Bryce that when he was talking shit about Eternals one time. He was like, That's who that was? And I was like, Yeah, that's who that was. No, I know. lg: He's like, You know what, I kinda like that movie now. migs: man. I'm just and I and listen, I'm not talking shit. We all fucking love Ryan Gosling. Okay. Like Ryan Gosling, lg: Yeah, of course. migs: dude, that meme where it's like, Yeah, I changed my personality, a new Ryan Gosling film just dropped. You know, like that is lg: Yeah. migs: that does feel very true. Like he is the every man of of like Hollywood right now. lg: Y y you know what it so it's funny when this ghostwriter thing popped up, someone said, Ooh, looks like a hot Cheetos logo, you know, very hot Cheetos of them. And I don't know if migs: Ooh, yeah. lg: the internet said that yet. I'm trying to catch up to the Internet. And so I think it's gonna be entertaining. I think it'll be fun. I don't know if it'll be as like dark and as like, you know, edgy as it could be with the Ryan Gosling character. migs: When yeah, I was gonna say like what his his kind of bread and butter right now is like a little silly and that's good. Light and fun. For fucking Vesa, dude. Yes. I love it, dude. lg: Light light and fun. Effervescent, you know? Dude. Bring in those words. Yeah. Effervescent. I mean, 'cause there's another ghostwriter that is around. I think he's like after the white ghostwriter. There's like a Latino ghostwriter and he's got like a family, you know? migs: And he was he was in Agents of Shields or whatever. lg: Yeah. Yeah. And people loved him. migs: Robbie Reyes. lg: Right, Robbie Reyes. And not to say that we bring in the actor for Agents of Shield, but just the you know, there was a a story element there. But I think again, here it is, why not? Stars align. Let's do it. So i yes, this is like the new news. I was like, shit, Ghost Rider, it's happening. And then we got we brought the cast of Avengers, and then that was it. migs: Can I it feels weird? You sent a link after Comic Con and you were like after the Avengers like got off stage and it was you were like, Wow, this is so crazy, like the access you have to these actors like right after this event, and it was like the sit down with like ten nine or ten of them. And I gotta say, it feels weird that Kelsey Grammar is there and it's just like I know he was beast in X-Men and I know he's coming back, but it's just like, whoa, dude, you've You kind of stick out right now and we haven't seen anything from Beast except for that little clip in The Marvels, I believe it was. Was it the Marvels? and I know. I was awake. The don't fucking start with me, dude. lg: Yes. Yes. yeah. You remember. Yeah, yeah. I know, I know I'm going to. migs: and so it's just one of those things where it's like, yeah, you are in this, you know? And that's that's where my excitement is about Avengers right now, is they showed all the chairs. I don't think we saw all of the people in those chairs in this trailer. And still there's all this surprise. I do think there's gonna be a slew of people lg: Yes. migs: we're not ex you know, expected to see just yet. but I I think I said this earlier. I I might have said it last week with Ed. It's just like now I'm I'm excited in a different way for Avengers. there's a couple other projects that have my attention a little bit more right now. But yeah, I mean like we're all gonna go fucking see this movie. I'm excited to see a little bit of it. Robin Downey Jr. like He turned down that Christopher Nolan movie. What was it called? The Odyssey. lg: Other say. migs: You know, he turned he turned that down after getting an Oscar with Christopher Nolan to be like lg: Who is he gonna be in the Odyssey? Did he say? migs: Listen, the internet has said this. I don't know if it's a hundred percent true because we never actually saw this on screen, but the internet was like he was gonna be Poseidon. And I don't know if that's true. Like, now seeing the Odyssey and like seeing how they didn't really play with gods, like maybe he would have been I mean, fuck, it's such a young cast other than like Matt Damon the s lg: He could have been John Barenthal's character. migs: Maybe Benny Safety is a little too young to be Robert Downey Jr.'s like brother, you know? I think the age difference would have been too lg: Yeah, but you never saw Benny Zap. You you think Robert Downey Jr. looks that much I guess he looks older than John Barenthal, huh? migs: Like a little. I mean, no offense. lg: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hmm. migs: Know, I don't know where he would have fit in because I I love to play that game with with Nolan movies of like, ooh, why didn't he cast like I was telling Ed like John David Washington, like why didn't he come back for the lg: Yeah. migs: Odyssey? Like who could he have played? You know? I just don't know. I I can't quite pin where Robert Downey Jr. would have been. But him turning it down to do the Avengers felt initially like money grab, obviously. They're like, here's fucking a quarter of a billion dollars. lg: Right and Chris, did you did you watch that this I have it up right now, the entertainment weekly interview. It's fine if you didn't, but I'll tell you this is that Chris Evans, they were pitching migs: Give me the gist. lg: they were pitching to Chris Evans about like, hey, you know, we will have this idea that you could do, you could do nomad. And he's like, No, pitch idea, no, no, no, no, no. And then he said when the Russos brothers pitched this, he was like, Okay, I'm down to play. Seemed like the same thing with Robert Downer Jr. Is it a talking point? We don't know. Sure, whatever. I don't know. I don't wanna say anything. But all I'm saying is that they're all migs: Ha ha ha lg: here now. And I will say this is that I will it it is I had such a fun time with the Fantastic Four press junkets. because of our friend Pedro Pascal. And I feel like migs: Our good friends. lg: our good friend Pedro. and so me and Pedro, we had a great time during that press junket. And of course, his other two compatriots, what's it called? Flame On and it's Clobber in time, migs: Uhhuh. Hell yeah. lg: those two. migs: Uhhuh. They're they were like the cheeky lg: We're kind of like from on the outside, it seemed like they were being cheeky towards whatever whatever Pedro's throwing down. Okay. That was a bubble in itself. Watching this interview, I s I'm feeling something with him next to Robert Dunny Jr. And he was just, I don't know, dude. I if you haven't seen it, I would check it out if you're into it. Cause he's like, migs: In a good way or a bad way? Okay, okay, okay. lg: there's a little bit about there's a little bit of like this. You know? And then a migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. lg: little bit of like I I kept it short, you know, or something like that. And then Robert Downey Jr. was just migs: You know what? lg: like, We had a long press day. We had this is gonna be a day. And like looking at the migs: You know what? lg: back, Chris Evans and Paul Rudd, everybody kind of looking at just it's so it just having even the multiverse of press junkets come together. Cause you have the OGs, you know, they knew how to they knew how to rock it. Chris Evans, Scarjoe, Robert Downey. Yeah, they Chris migs: dude, this is like clockwork for them. Yes, dude. Yes. lg: Hemsworth, boom, boom, boom. But now it's like it's like when you invite different friends to your birthday party. And you're they're coming from migs: And they and they have to get along. lg: Yeah, it's like it's a different crew and it's like, this they're migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. lg: not maybe not melding well. So it's an interesting watch, I will say. Even from the first minute or so, you're gonna get the vibe of it. And it's twenty minutes. but I mean migs: Can I I'm gonna postulate, I'm gonna speculate. Okay. What it is is most likely is Pedro Pascal is in a newfound era in his career, right? In the last what, six years, right? I mean, lg: Love him. Love Pedro. migs: Game of Thrones, Game of Thrones, post Game of Thrones, he kind of just started so slowly, like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. And I just feel lg: Yeah. migs: like now he's got a sense of like, and Reed Richards is probably a big part of this storyline. lg: Incredibly big. migs: And he's paired with Robert Downey Jr., naturally you would just come to be like chummy, that idea that like I I'm I'm up here, you know? And then lg: That's what's weird about it is th just feels interesting. migs: and then and then I'm just guessing here, and then I'm just guessing here, it's a little bit of them like, hey man, like, you know, like earn your earn your your spot with us, you know. Like the co like the cool kids table. lg: Right. But he's also like an i Yeah. But he's also like an important character. Like him and Doom, like Mr. Fantastic migs: Right. lg: and Doom have a rivalry where, you know, he Doom is like, I'm smarter than you and then read reads like okay, calm down, you know? But he does get into trouble. There's some there's some real like connection between the two and I thought it was interesting how good. migs: And in that trailer in the trailer of Comic Con, like Reed Richards has a really great moment in that trailer that I remember telling like I can't believe this isn't the trailer for the movie so far. And I know lg: I know, they never do it. They never show up. They never show it. migs: they won't, but it was just like my God, that really was like a beat. And again, I could see why Pedro Pascal would come in to me and like, Hey man, like I carried my own in this. Like I came into this new and fresh and I delivered. I deserve to be here, you know? lg: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. migs: So I don't know. I don't know. lg: I don't know. I'm excited for the press junket. It's always like I wish Robert Pattinson was in this movie because I love him in a press junket. migs: Fuck. lg: He's my favorite when he's doing press junkets. migs: He can do no wrong, you know, like he really is just so like stupidly like awkward and silly and funny lg: Yeah. migs: and serious. Also, like he can just like he can turn all of them on, you know? lg: Yeah. He's got that hair where it'll like he'll flick it and it perfectly falls into like a messy place. Very ed of him. migs: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Very good. lg: Okay, so that's fine. But then go ahead. migs: Wait. okay, I was no, I thought you were about to move on from Hall H. I like, No, no, no, no, there's more I want to talk about. lg: No, no, no, no, no. Then then at the very end we had the one more thing moment, which I think was great because it left a hold on, transition. It left a like great taste in our mouth. So for them, migs: Yeah. lg: they did a great job of doing that. And Miguel, what what happened there? Transition. migs: So Ryan Kugler and the cast of Black Panther three came out and they started talking about it. Kevin Feige was out there, or I think he was out there. they started talking about, hey, we're gonna film it on film, we're gonna, you know, pass on this legacy. You know, Ryan Kugler has a very specific way of speaking, so I'm not gonna do that. But it just like it was the I don't think I could I anyone you I bet you could. I bet you could pull it lg: No, come on, do it. See what happens. I bet I could, yeah. migs: out, you know what I mean. In fact later, let's see if you could just throw lg: Okay. migs: it in there. and it was really exciting. Black Panther Three, where is it gonna go? But of course, the big reveal is they have cast young T'Challa, Prince T'Challa, lg: Yeah. migs: right? The grown up version of Toussaint, who we saw in Black Panther Wakanda Forever. Aged up, but maybe through Secret Wars, maybe through this movie Black Panther III. We don't know yet. lg: Who the fuck knows? migs: Who knows? I'll take either, to be honest, because I figured that's what was gonna happen. We all did. played by none other than David Johnson. lg: Yeah. migs: from Alien Romulus, which I just rewatched today because I was like, fuck that movie. Like he was so good in that movie. And the long walk. A lot of people are talking about the lg: yeah. migs: the long walk is like his showcase performance. But I really think and then Ed, it will go the opposite way and do Ry Lane. You know what I mean? So lg: Right. migs: I feel like every time David Johnson has been presented to us, the audience, he has shown up in some way that he has made himself memorable. I think this is a solid choice. I really like him as an actor. And as I was watching Alien Romulus today, I was just like, Wow, he is so good. I don't know if you heard lg: I didn't. migs: Some people are a little cold on this casting. hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on. lg: But also like what were people thinking about Chadwick? You know, it's like you don't I think Chadwick came out of kind of nowhere. migs: Yeah, yeah. I think so what's happening now is there's some people who are saying what the okay, talking about Ryan Gosling, right, being like a fan cast that came true. One of the fan casts for like the next Black Panther was Damps and Idris from F1, from Snowfall. lg: yes. migs: a lot of people really wanted him. And don't get me wrong, I see the vision for lg: Yeah. migs: Dams and Idris. Like I I could totally see how that would work, and I would not be upset about that at all. But a lot of people are looking at David Johnson and going, hmm, he seems small. I don't know him. Damson Idris was a bigger star. David Johnson can't fill seats the way that Damson Idris could. And lg: And Chad Budw yeah. migs: well, and then that's the point that some people are also making is like, but Chadwick Bozeman wasn't like like when he was cast as Black Panther, he had he had a few under his belt that were like lg: Yeah. migs: popular. But like Black Panther and him together, okay? really put Black Panther on the map and put him on the map at the same time. Does that make sense? Like lg: Yes. migs: like he equally put Black Panther on the map. I'm not gonna discredit him at all. But like Black Panther also gave him a widespread audience that the world became like known of Chatter Bozeman. Does that make sense what I'm saying? lg: Mm-hmm. And if you Yeah, absolutely. And I feel like out of any of the creatives in, you know, Marvel's Rolodex, what's it called? Ryan Kugler is somebody that you trust and whatever 'cause I feel like whatever he's casting or deciding or story wise, like migs: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well that guys. lg: he has his hand firm on the plot. You know, it's not like he's being like, Hey, you gotta do this. He's like n migs: Yes. And someone someone lg: you know. migs: no, someone pointed out, and I I'm trying to to build off what you're saying, that Ryan Kugler his hand in Marvel is the only one who brought like Oscar nominations to the table. You know what lg: Mm. migs: I mean? Like I think Black Panther was nominated. fucking lg: Right, her she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress and I know. Look, we we we w we we have migs: I hate that I can't think of her name right now and it's I'm I'm so bad at this when it happens. lg: bad memories, so forgive us all. Angela Bassett. Angela Bassett. She should have won. She should have won. migs: But she but she was Angela Bassett, and she was amazing. She was amazing, okay? She sh I'm not gonna don't get me started, okay? but it's like Ryan Kugler can come to Marvel and be like, he now has a different control over Black Panther and any sort of project with Marvel than say Sean Levy, who even though Deadpool and Wolverine made a billion dollars, like he is still at the whim of like the creatives at Marvel and Disney and all of that. But Ryan Kugler just came in also with Sinners, which hello, everyone fucking loved that movie, dude. lg: Yeah. migs: Name one person that hated that movie. Like Ryan Kugler, if he shows up and he goes, I've cast David Johnson in this role, I think Yeah, that's it, you know. I I don't I'm I'm just saying I think that's lg: Yeah. He knows what he how about you sit down, shut the fuck up and you just watch something. You know, it's like we all don't have to be I know we're on the podcast critiquing, but we all don't have to be critics. Why don't we just like relax and sit and, you know, see get get fed? Get let's get spoon fed. migs: You know what, and then tomorrow there'll be some casting, there'll be another casting that I'll I'll shit all over. But there was just something about David Johnson, like I said, I I just like immediately was enamored by him in these couple of projects that he showed up in. And I'm just like, dude, if anyone can just show up and I think absolutely nail whatever interpretation they're gonna go with, lg: Yeah. migs: I really do think it's David Johnson. Again, there's a list of actors that could have come in and been any sort of version of Black Panther, and I think If Ryan Kugler yes, it's this person, it would have worked, you know? lg: He knows the tone. He knows the tone and the type of person exactly. migs: There there's rumors. Okay, so I said like Secret Wars maybe is what's gonna age him up, because there's this idea that like Doom is going after the children. That's the lg: Right. migs: idea that I'm hearing. Maybe Toussaint will come into play in that, but I don't quite think he will. but there's a rumor that Black Panther 3 might be like a time travel story, and like Denzel is like the first Black Panther, and that's why he's been cast. and I who knows? Who knows at this point. But I you know, however they age up this character to be, you know, David Johnson's age, thirty, whatever it is, I'm here for it. I'm gonna show up. I thought like I liked Black Panther, but I really liked Black Panther Wakanda Forever. And lg: Mm-hmm. migs: I I think I'm hoping that the trajectory is just gonna go up, up, up with this one. So lg: Ga yeah. I that's I always those are always my hopes for creatives. It's like you always want the next one to be you don't want to stay like the cl like your first one's always the best one, you know? I always feel a certain way about like creatives or directors. migs: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That dip. lg: Yeah, it's like, they're only good at the very beginning and then when they start actually making stuff they got worse. It's like, okay, well that's not migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. lg: like a great feeling. I think migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But Ryan Kugler has basically every time he's shown up but but like all the way back to like Fruitville station and whatever he had before that, all the way to now, it's like, dude, trust the process. I lg: Trust the process. migs: I am more so Like if Kevin Feige came out and was like, I'm gonna make Ghost Rider, right? We're make Ghost Rider. I'm a little that's when I'm a little like questioning on this and that. When Ryan Coogler comes out and says we're making Black Panther three and I got the fucking cast here right in front of you, I'm like, Yes, sir, you do. You lg: Yeah. migs: know? Like I'm not questioning anything. but we'll find out. We'll just find out. lg: We're gonna find out literally, liter literally anything can happen with Avengers, Secret Doomsday, Secret Wars. I mean, you're you're getting multiverses, you're getting time travel, you're getting people who change faces. I mean, you have not only Mystique, but also Loki. You know what I mean? You you and migs: Yeah, yep, yep, yep. lg: there's multiples of these everywhere. So it's like anybody migs: Do you what? lg: and any who can show up. migs: Someone on the internet pointed this out and they were saying how Doom himself might be changing faces, right? To make himself look like Tony Stark, potentially. lg: huh. migs: And it's like, okay, the through line of the kids is kind of obvious, but it's like, I didn't think about that, like this like shape shifting whatever, like theme of like I don't know. okay. never mind, I'm gonna I'm getting a little off plot here. But I just think like there's a through line there that we haven't quite picked up on. So lg: Yeah. I think so. Are you know, they're generational, pass down to who we are, they'll be the better of us, you know, something like that. migs: Dude, always right there, dude. I see you way to go, brother. Way to go, yeah. Thanks for bringing it on. lg: yeah, doomsday, I think, yeah, I mean you you see in the internet, it's just gonna be the incursion story, where the worlds collide and Doom will be like, We we have to destroy the other world to maintain ours, and they're like, We can't do that, you know. migs: I just want you to know that there's something I want to talk about, but I'm going to wait until we can talk about it now, okay? Okay. lg: Okay. Well, I think okay, let's do how about the let's do the summer movie wager. migs: Let's just get through that. Yeah. lg: Now, a little bit of an update. I've I haven't been here in a while. And every time we do the summer movie wager, it's like it hasn't been perfect. So I haven't really looked at this list in a long time. Even in our chat group, it was like going off a few days ago about updates. I didn't even want to look because I didn't want to know anything. All right, so here we go. Summer movie. migs: Luis, you didn't want to know? Okay. lg: Summer movie wager. Okay. I'm just gonna get on the list and I'm gonna see who's who's who's in the lead here. We have number one Toy Story Five at 452 million dollars. the Odyssey at three hundred and twenty million, obsession at two hundred and sixty-one. Man, the devil wears Prada too. I gotta give migs: Yep. That yeah. lg: it to you. You know, I'm wrong. What can I say? I am always wrong. Devil Wears Prada too, two hundred and twenty million. I did not think that people would show up for this. Like I thought there was an I thought it was just for older millennials and not for like the rest of the world. So good for them. Backrooms at 196 million. And then Star Wars, Mandalore, and Grogu at 177 million. Minions and Monsters at 159. The first major migs: Wow. lg: dip in the minion world. And I migs: Yeah. lg: was like, maybe it looks pretty good, but disclosure day number eight at 116. Scary movies still kicking it at 108. And fuck Moana at 106. And let me tell you something, it ain't gonna stick around because Spider-Man. migs: I don't think it will. No. lg: is coming in and it's gonna take down names. So yeah, I mean unless unless Moana migs: I still lg: beats out scary movie. I Scary Movie is at a hundred and eight million and Moana's at a hundred and six million. So it could be number ten. It could it's on the line. migs: yeah, a little on the line, right? Yeah. I will say this, my top three was Spider-Man, Toy Story, Odyssey, right? Like lg: Yeah. migs: if they're in the ballpark, I'll take it. If I'm like last with a hundred points and everyone else has three thousand points, fuck it. lg: All right. I'm looking at it now, baby. migs: Yeah, there it is. lg: Fifty two me, Eddie B fitty, Benny at forty-three and you at forty-one. So migs: it's it's grown since the last when Ed sent that text a couple days ago, I was it was not that close. lg: It's pretty close. I mean, this is I don't even I can't even determine who will win what. Last year, Ben only won by the skin of his teeth. Cause th he said the following week I beat him. And so if we stayed on for one more week, I would have won the wager here. But goddamn the migs: I gotta say, bringing Benny in, I I seem to be the only person that doesn't have any sort of feelings about that. Everyone else seems to bring that stuff a lot, okay? Binny won by the skin of his teeth. Ed's always like, Benny I'm like, okay, you guys, alright. Okay, you saw that, right? lg: Fuck you, Benny. Yeah, no, he hates Benny. He's his enemy. He's the doom to he yeah, he's the doom to his Mr. Fantastic, you know? migs: No, no, for real. They really are. They like buttheads. Not buttheads literally, but like, yeah, no. Ed's I think Ed is mostly just like, this is our thing. I don't want to bring anyone else in. But then you lg: Yeah. migs: ask him about the fucking FIFA World Cup and he's yeah, I'm in like three brackets. I'm like, no. That's our lg: Yeah, I know. You can't be doing that. migs: thing. lg: It was I felt so special. I was like, we're we're doing a bracket. And they're like, I got another one. It's like, okay, well, now this feels like migs: He's like, well I'm winning that one too. Okay, you All right. lg: Sur Movie Wager, there you go. Spider Man, brand new day comes out. I was. Mm-hmm. migs: Luis, you were down by a lot. And now you're number one. And that is again, we've just said it so many times. What a fucking summer this has been. I think this is the reset. I think this is the Secret Wars doomsday of it all. Like I think we No, no, no, no, no, no, no. lg: Yeah. We get rid of Ben, we get back to the three of us. migs: No, no, no, no. It's just that this summer just I mean, obsession and backrooms really came in and said, no, we're here to fucking play. And lg: And and and Divil Wars Prado too was like, We're also here. Okay, okay, okay. You ha yeah, yeah. migs: Well I knew that was gonna happen. Yeah, I knew Devil was product was gonna show up, yeah. Bro, it just hit it just hit Disney Plus. Can you believe that? lg: I can't believe it. migs: The summer's not even over yet. They were like, throw it on. Let's go. Why lg: throwing up why not? migs: not? lg: yeah, I think we never I mean we never really talked about it on the podcast, but I sent it on chat of just like, this was the year that movies like directors that try hard or productions or directors that try hard are getting more attention than movies that aren't. For example, like Obsession, Backrooms, migs: Yeah, yeah. lg: I could say another one that I can't Odyssey. You know, these are people who are putting their blood on the line, putting things on Facebook migs: Sure. lg: film on camera that like you could just cheat around. For example, Ala Moana, Mando, Supergirl, these are all very green screeny minions. Yeah. migs: Whereas like I was gonna say, minions, you know, minions minions kind of like relying on name recognition and kids and butts and seats for kids, you know what I mean? lg: Yeah. I gotta see this I I yeah. I feel like minions though might be I don't know, I'm a minion head, so be be do booty bee. migs: I know you are. I know you are. And when we went and saw it, it was like fine. Like I was like, this is good. My kid loved it. lg: Out of the mi I mean, did you would it was okay, it was fine. So it matched the other one. So it's not like it dipped in like, oof, this is migs: No, no, no. It yeah, and it it felt very consistent and they did something different which made it like fresh, you know? But lg: Yeah. migs: it was like how many like fresh bananas can I eat, you know? Like they're all good lg: Maybe maybe we're in a pocket where it's like migs: bananas, you know. lg: right, right, right. Maybe we're in a pocket where, you know, the gentle minions have like graduated to college and now they're like film snoots where they're like, I'll only watch David Lynch films and then the younger people aren't catching on to the minions yet. I'm I'm sure it'll circle back around. It's just, you know, they'll reevaluate. migs: Yeah, yeah. It will. Can I say something? And I I don't mean this to sound disparaging. I just my eyes were opened by this. Okay. Can we have a quick moment before we get into lg: Yeah. migs: it? My wife came home after seeing Moana with the boy. They saw lg: Yeah. huh. migs: first off, my son saw it twice now. I took him to go see it in the weekday lg: All right. migs: to kind of like just fill the week 'cause he w hadn't gone to camp yet. And then on the weekend he was like he was he and he does this where he enjoys a movie and then he wants to take the other parent to go see it. lg: That's cool. That's cool. Yeah. migs: We we've done we've done that a couple of times. And he was like, Mommy, I wanna I wanna go see Moana. And she was like, Pick a time. And I was like, the only time available is the three D. She was like, Fine, let's go see the three D. And she came home and she goes, Moana live action, better than the original. I which that's lg: Crazy take. I don't even I can't I can't even migs: I I will I'm letting her I'm giving her the grace to say that. I'm not over here saying she's wrong or I'm right about anything whatsoever, okay? lg: Right. No, of course. I love Kristen, yeah. migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like if and she walked away from that experience feeling that, like, I give her that. Like, I'm so happy she walked away and joined the movie. But that take blew my mind. I was just like, I did not expect you to say that. I was over here talking to like another dad, and he was like, like the moms were like, Do you guys want to go? And I was like, No, I already saw it. And the other dad was like, I'll watch it at home while you guys are out, like while I'll get caught up, you know. Like we we were just like over it, you know? lg: Yeah. migs: And she came home and she was like, They added just enough. To sell this like live action version. And I as I was talking it out with her, I was like, okay, yeah. I had to ask myself, like, did that happen in the cartoon movie? And she was like, No, no, no, no. That only happened in this one. And I was like, okay. Like they differentiated a little bit. Okay. lg: Okay. migs: But I remember the moment. I remember the moment, the shot that I was like, this is motherfucking shripped from the cartoon. Like I just lg: Yeah. migs: am not like shocked by anything that's happened. I took a nap. Okay. lg: But even if it's ripped, it's like they didn't rip it well. You know what I mean? migs: According to you. Okay. lg: According to what's real and right. No. I I think it's like anytime I see it done like in in live act well I got I'll walk I'll have to maybe one day. It's like a Christmas movie. It'll be like a Christmas movie, migs: You know what Krishna reminded me about? Is lg: huh? migs: she got we were talking about Moana, the original, and I was like, I don't think we saw that in theater. She goes, No, you know where we saw that? Jamaica, dude. Yeah, dude. We were on that island in that hotel lg: Jamaica. Yeah. Yeah. migs: room, watching on an iPad, okay? lg: I know, I know. migs: And it still slapped. And that was what I was saying last week with Ed is there were moments in Moana, this movie, that I was watching that I was like, yeah, I'm just, I'm caught up. This is working for me. And then I later was like, but yeah, like Moana was just good. You know, like when lg: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. migs: you just like rip Moana to the live action screen, like yeah, it's like the songs are good. lg: What did someone say? It's like, yeah, Hamlet's good. Anyone can do it, but it's like, you know, it's do you know what I'm saying? migs: I was I I was last week talking about how it it is like a stage production, how like one production one production lg: Is that what it is? You were saying that, right? Maybe I was listening to you. migs: can do it and then like ten years later another production can do it. But the song the s lg: That's what it was. I was l I was listening to it as I was going to sleep. I was like, hmm, you know migs: the songbook or whatever is the same. It's like yeah, I mean like yeah, you can like tweak it here and there. Adina Mazell as fucking wicked Alphaba is lg: Yeah, alpha bar. migs: amazing. It's amazing. And then Cynthia Rivo comes in and does and does it and cranks it up and you're like, Fuck yeah, this is lg: Yeah. migs: really good. You know what I mean? but I don't know. Anyway, sorry, I got kinda went on a sh tangent there. lg: No. Moana. and then I guess I wanted a this kind of bleeds into it, but Spider Man brand new day. Hold on, I'll see if I can get a graphic for this. Spider Man brand new day. Obviously it comes out this weekend. you know, I'm sure already reviews migs: Three times. lg: what? migs: I'm gonna see this three times in theaters. lg: How do you know wait, what do you mean? Have you already booked it three times or? migs: No, no, I just know. because Friday my wife comes home and we're gonna go see a movie and I could maybe convince her to go see Spider Man over the Odyssey. I'm gonna take my son to go see Spider Man when he comes home from camp. And then I'm gonna go one more time because I believe in this. Okay. Yeah. lg: I believe in Harvey Dent. Right. Damn, I you know, God, you know what fucking like why can't I just get a poster picture I could put on for the folks? It's like every time some move some like companies are really good at poster work and they're like, We got it for you. We're ready to go. And then some like migs: Sure. lg: they're like, good luck finding the right one migs: Is the lg: with the right quality. migs: Spider Man has so many, pick one. lg: I know. Okay. Bra ba. So it's fine. That's the best one. So, Spider-Man, I I watched I'm talking about Spider-Man because it comes out this weekend, and I'm gonna watch it in the format it was made to be watched. I'm doing it. I'm doing it. migs: Don't fucking say it, Louise. Don't say it. lg: Odyssey was filmed using IMAX cameras and for the first time in ever of its venue history. Screen X has this has been a movie that has been shot for Screen X. What does that mean? migs: I lg: What does that mean? You gotta I don't know what I Okay, migs: Tell us, Louis. Tell us. lg: well, what it means is that they have okay, so before with Screen X, they would like basically Screen X is like you have one screen in the middle and then you have displays on the left and the right. If to me it was a regal thing, I would never touch it. I was like, look at this regal trash. And then they would add like in in post, they would just kind of like I don't know, for example, this movie. Someone swinging in the city, they would add like artificial s like cityscape or whatever, just in the background. It'll be like blurry. migs: Sure. Yeah. lg: You've seen a Screen X movie. migs: I did it was a Spider Man movie. It was a Tom Holland, lg: it's a Spider Man movie. migs: it was far from home. And lg: Okay. migs: the story that I tell all the time is that I went to the bathroom right at the beginning of the movie, right before the movie started, where they made an announcement of what the Screen X was. I came back, the movie started, and then like twenty minutes into the movie, they they lg: that's right. migs: do Screen X and I was like, What is going on right now? She had to be like, It's okay, they said this was gonna happen. I was like, Did they? I didn't know what lg: Yeah. migs: was happening. I thought this was like a Cinemark thing, you know? I don't know man. I I appreciate when people lg: But no. But so but they migs: are going to the theater for true IMAX in seventy millimeter, you said lg: Yeah, yeah, yeah. migs: no no no no no. I'm going for the gimmick, okay? lg: No, no, no. Okay, hold on. the okay, well, the reason why I bring this up is because before it was very gimmicky. They would just like kind of stretch it or whatever, make it work. But this one, they actually had cameras on the side where they filmed four screen X. So you're gonna be getting content that was, you know, behind a director's eye, made four screen X to get the so migs: Made for that? Yeah. Yeah. lg: there is direction, there is clear. So that's why I'm like, I saw Odyssey in the way the director meant to see it. I'm seeing Spider-Man and the way it was meant to be seen. migs: You also I mean, I'm gonna bring this up again and this is again, very Louise. you went and saw Twisters in Fort DX. lg: I did. I did. That was a very good time too. migs: Like you you are all about the experience in the way and then Batman, all the way back when we started this podcast, you were like, No, you gotta go see it in Dolby. You know? Yeah, I think lg: Yeah. yeah. I know. Yeah, I mean migs: you're I think you're a visionary in the sense of like I I will not see the movie the way it's not intended. Okay? And I get that. I'm gonna give that to you. lg: Yeah. I I've definitely like have laxed on it a bit. But for when when when they're saying, Hey, do it this way, then migs: This is the one. Mm-hmm. lg: I r I really do try, to do it. And it's I had an argument with somebody about like IMAX and it like a film person and like who gives a shit about IMAX? I'll just see it in normal theater. And I'm like, how am I arguing with the cinema person about why it's like like the benefits of going to see an IMAX? And then I the next couple of days later I went to go see I went to a party and I was like, Yeah, I gotta wake up at six AM to go see Odyssey. And like, why would migs: I wanna lg: you ever do that, you psycho? And I'm like, You're you migs: No. lg: or people are in LA. What are you talking about? migs: No, no. I I disagree. If I had a theater close to me and I and the screenings were showed out, like I would I would make the trip. What I wanna ask is not your your review about the Odyssey, but can you just tell me something about like waking up and seeing a movie at six AM? Okay, you had to get up at like what five AM maybe? Okay. lg: Yeah, five AM. Mm-hmm. migs: And I and but you're a you're a night owl, you know? Like you you stay up late. lg: I am, I am. I chase the night. migs: you do. And and I've become that recently too. But I'm just like what What was that experience of like going to bed and then being like, Babe, wake up? Fuck it, we gotta lg: Okay. migs: go see the Odyssey. lg: Great point. so like fun fact is I had a story that's somewhat similar to Ed, but not really. I bought tickets to Odyssey probably, I don't know, maybe a month ago or something. I definitely did not I definitely migs: A while back. Yeah, yeah. lg: did not get it when everybody was like, get it now and then tickets aren't sell on eBay because I was like, fuck you. I'm not falling for that. And then a couple weeks after a paw during like a couple weeks ago, I was like, Okay, I'm gonna start booking the tickets. And I'm like, holy shit, they really are gone. You know, and so but migs: Yeah, yeah. lg: I was like I wasn't gonna accept this narrative that I wasn't gonna be able to get an IMAX ticket. So there was showings at three AM. I did not get, but I almost got, and then I found a six AM on a Monday. I would get out on time just for work. So I booked it late, I think at one in the morning or twelve in the morning, one night, and I got it from me and Sarah and then weeks passed by and I was like, Hey, we're gonna go see the Odyssey at this time. let's see what seats we have. This is on a Thursday or Wednesday. let's see what the seats are. And for some reason, Entourage fucked up. My AMC A list Entourage messed up, where I tried to book her seat and my seat together for AMC A list, and it negated her seat, and it just got my seat. So we were looking through and we were trying to troubleshoot it. I went on Reddit. It was a problem too. So she didn't get a ticket to the Odyssey, IMAX. And I was like, what are we gonna do? A Comic-Con's coming migs: babe. lg: up. Am I not gonna see it before Comic-Con? And she was really cool and she was like, Let's just watch together. And I was like, let's just. It doesn't have to be IMAX, let's just watch it. So we watched it. I was like, just choose any screen because, you know, she has to deal with me choosing very particular screens. And I'm like, I I don't care. It migs: Sure. lg: doesn't have to be, it could be literally any screen anywhere. and so we we chose a screen and we watched it together. And then the second time I went by myself at 6 a.m. So I saw it twice. migs: Okay, okay, okay, at the six A I was like, Wow, Sarah picking a six AM is kind of I see, I see. Okay, okay. lg: No, I I it took me weeks to to tell her that it was gonna happen and then the end didn't even happen. But i I did say maybe like in August or September we can like watch it on IMAX so she gets that full experience, you know. migs: Yeah, yeah. And it's here to stay. So we'll we'll see how it goes. Yeah. lg: Why not? I mean, th they have showings at three AM here. Like, why why wouldn't and I've I've been having fights at work too. They're like, Yeah, I saw it in True IMAX too at the Hollywood TLC and I'm like, brother, that ain't real I Max. That's not yours are cropped. migs: That's not yeah, yeah. And I'm I'm the one that's over here just like this isn't I'm in the IMAX theater at my theater. I'm like, this isn't true, IMAX, you know. But here we are, you know, I'll I'll watch it 'cause No, it's not even. lg: I know. They're like, But it's IMAX seventy millimeter. Yeah, I know, I know. It's it's like yeah. migs: I wish I had this. That's in Denver that's a whole thing where they g it keeps breaking in the middle of the thing. It's multiple times now. but yeah, I'm just like, Fuck it, I'd I gotta go IMAX. one of the other dads was like, Miguel, I saw I saw the Odyssey. It was so good. And I like, that's cool. He surprises me. He sometimes is like the other day he was like, I'm really into fucking Metal Gear Solid and like Death Stranding. Those are my favorite games. And it's like, Who are you? Dude, what the fuck? That's crazy. lg: Yeah. migs: But he was like, I saw the Odyssey, it was great. But he said, We couldn't get an IMAX. We saw a standard showing, Okay, that's no big deal. That happens. He goes, The theater was eighty degrees. The heat like the the AC was broken. And he was like, But we were already there. We had already had the babysitter. So we sat and watched the whole thing. lg: Damn. migs: The sound was fucked up. He was like the speakers were blown out. My ears hurt the entire time. But I lg: No no migs: but I watched that whole movie and I was like, I would have complained. I would have walked lg: Yeah. migs: out. I would have been on the heat alone. I'd be like, It's too fucking hot. Figure this out or give me my money back 'cause I'm not dealing with this, you know? I'll come back later. lg: Money back, yeah. Well he's a he's a r he's a trooper, you know, he's he's good. migs: As a dad, I get it. You know, you you get the babysitter, you just gotta make it work. But what the fuck were we even talking about? We just like lg: Yeah. yeah, we're talking about Spider Man. So this is the first dan I okay, I have quotes now. Director Destin Daniel Creton, he he directed Shang-Chi, he also directed Wonder Man. he's directing this one. He said that the CG C J 40 Plex team came to the set and shot dedicated footage specifically for the wings, the left and the right, screen X projections. This wasn't footage cropped from the main camera. Traditionally, a film shot specifically for Screen X often capture with three synchronized cameras left and right. Although many previous Hollywood Screen X releases were instead just expanded later using VFX and unused production assets. so there you go. So that's why I'm like, okay, this is gonna be I've never done it before. It was only a regal thing. AMC is introducing this now. they're really like expanding my AMC. They're adding another Dolby, I think. and I hear maybe a forty X in the future. I know two Dolbies. It's so good to be king in LA. migs: That's nice. That's nice. lg: and yeah, no, so I'm gonna see that this weekend. But what I really wanted to talk about with you, because we're gonna do what we're let's talk about this now, is recently I said to Miguel, Miguel, give me here's migs: Yes. lg: an here's a link to my entourage, be a part of my entourage. And if you don't know what an AMC list entourage is, it means that if you have AMC A list and I have AMC A-list, we can create a quote unquote entourage. Where I can reserve a seat for you. So if you have a big party, a four or five, everyone has AMCA list, I can book everybody's seat for them using Entourage. It makes it a lot easier. So you're not all trying to like fight for like, hey, you get the seat, I get the seat. Let's book it at the same time. One, two, three, go. It makes it easy. as I was watching the Entertainment Weekly and I got I started getting hype for Doomsday, I was like, I'm gonna book my ticket. I got a couple showings just in case. And then I sent Miguel. an invite to join my entourage. And then I booked him a seat at the at at one of his Denver locations. And just in case he didn't get it in time, I was like, you know what? I'm gonna book your seat and then I'm gonna cancel my seat so that at least you have a backup showing. So that no matter what happens, you know, maybe you can cancel this one. It's fine. But I wanted to have one in your pocket just in case to have, you know. migs: Loved it. I loved it. I yeah, you sent that link, and I thought, this is odd. Like Luis and I, we don't live in the same city. lg: Yeah. migs: Like the around the holidays, like, yeah, we see each other in the holidays, but like this was a little before the holidays. And it's just like, I don't think I I don't know why he's sending me this. And then it was days later. I was going to book a movie and I saw in my tickets, lg: Yeah. Moana. migs: yeah, whatever it was, and it was Avengers Doomsday, and I was like, the fuck? And I click on this. lg: Yes. migs: And it was like, here's your fucking seat in a row that I totally would have picked. Okay? Right? Right? I lg: I know. I know too. Yeah. Yeah. migs: was like, yo. And then I was like, what? And I texted Luis and I was like, what the fuck, Luis? What's going on? And then he put me on Do Not Disturb in the middle of that message. And I know you were busy. And I know you were busy, lg: Did I did I really? I was busy, okay. migs: but I was like, God damn it. I just wanted to like figure out what's going on right now, lg: Yeah. migs: you know? Because a part of me was like and it and it and it's not. It's not. But a part of me was like, you won't be there. Right. And I but lg: like I'm not I'm I won't be there, but it's like yeah, yeah. migs: but a part of me was like, my God, it's like Luis coming into town. I thought, like, is Ed coming into town? I was like, lg: Yeah, yeah, yeah. migs: is this a surprise? It's like that New Girl episode. but it I yeah, no, in general, I was just like, my God, he like went out of the way because you know me. I'm not gonna proactively do it, you know? lg: Yeah. Get it early. Yeah. migs: And you said, boom. And the fact that you picked a seat, I will say this, it is. In the theater that you picked, like the perfect scene it's the perfect thing, okay? lg: Okay. Okay. I've heard you talk about seats so many times in podcast. I was also like and also it wasn't like the the theater was like, hey, go ahead, pick whatever you want. It was like slim picking. So I had to like it it worked migs: It's good. lg: out that like again the stars aligned. So then I picked migs: I lg: my seat my seat was like at the very front in the right corner. And then I picked yours migs: Yeah, yeah. lg: in that spot. So then I can just cancel it, not like take up somebody like an actual good seat, you know. Yeah. migs: I love that. I love that. I love that. Yeah, no, it's good. And I'm I'm a back row guy. I love like s I I lg: I know. And there's like a a a way for you to just dip out real quick, you know? Yeah. migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that row is the same thing where it's like it's like a couple of people that you have to cross over if you want to leave. And it's like the other back row is the same thing, you know? And it's lg: Yeah. migs: like if you don't if you don't wanna book the handicap friend seat, these are the seats, dude. I'm saying. No, it lg: These are the c yeah, yeah. Okay, good. migs: blew my blew my absolute mind. And I I was texting Chris and I was like, I don't know what's happening right now. Luis booked my tick my for Avengers. I already have a ticket. And then it's like we don't know what we're doing for the holidays yet. And I'm sitting there going, like, okay, that That one day we probably won't leave. That may be the day we wanna leave, but I could be like, nope, we gotta leave the next morning. Or after the movie even, you know. lg: And it's like you could literally it's it's just like a backup. Like it and when all this fails and you want to be because you might get excited near the end, like shit, people are spoiling things. I don't want to get spoiled migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. lg: anymore. Like then you'll get hyped a maybe a little too late. And I it's just kind of like a backup card, you know. So that there's migs: I love it. I love it. Just to make sure there's a seat there. lg: a seat there, yeah. So that was no, I gotta do this, I gotta turn this off. I'm doing like dude. Another topic that we could talk migs: Rather. lg: about, Joy Tycoon. I'm I'm I got this whole like new Joy Tycoon setup. migs: Louise. lg: look, I got this thing. You know what this is for? This is for your phone. But migs: You got that shit? Louise I know. I know. lg: I'm now now, but then we have fucking Android users. And so it's like I'm on my phone, but I can't text the group because it's like sometimes I use my computer to chat or I use my iPad to chat, you know? But these motherfuckers, migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. lg: it doesn't show up on my computer. And it's like, God damn. migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. lg: And it makes it so hard to do it. So now I got my iPad here set up in the corner. And I literally cause like now I'm in a groove. It's like, whatever, whatever, whatever. But I'm doing stuff away from keyboard, is what I've been saying. AFK. I'm AFK. I'm away from keyboard. And I'm basically just grinding this stuff to get enough coins to advance the next level or whatever. So I got this migs: Yep, yep. lg: thing hella cheap. It's like 30 bucks. And what I didn't realize was that. this thing, so if I push this has a turbo button and if you set it up and you push this, you know, trigger, see how it's blinking? It is now pickaxing the scrap station and getting credits. Now, this is very particular for those who are into Joy Tycoon for Fortnite. but you know when you you're doing that and then you have you get a blueprint and it's like, I gotta stop it. I gotta reset it, turn it off. I don't know if you've ever done that before or whatever. because there's a way to do it on PlayStation. Either way. It's like you have to stop doing it, you have to like throw away the blueprint, blah, blah, blah. This thing for some reason pushes through the blueprint. It's like blueprint toss. Keep going. Keep go. So I woke up this morning to like a shit ton of money and I was like, what happened? And yeah, no, it's so it's just been going here in the background. so this thing has been really awesome and it feels great too. It's like I could play like probably like mobile games now or something. migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. lg: I don't really know, but I I thought it was just like it's cheap. I can turn it on. whatever. migs: My thing is when I play Fortnite Mobile, even Droid Tycoon, my phone gets so fucking hot and I close everything, you know what I mean? And I take it out of the I take lg: I know. I know. I ha I had this I had a little fan. migs: it out of the case. my god Okay. lg: But this fan, okay, this fan already had from a long time today. So it it was fun. I saw a post of somebody putting their their phone was in a fridge. Their phone was in a fridge and they had one of these. one of these. migs: Bro, I take Yeah, yeah. lg: it's like a it's like a tip. So they had they prompt it and then they had their phone in the fridge to and it was just pickaxing the whole time. migs: Why not? lg: anyway, just whatever. Mobile thing. I'm sorry, I got like a long I have a lot of like the off my chest because I haven't been here in a while. Is it okay? Am I okay to like, or do have something? migs: No, go ahead, I'm gonna get a beer. I can hear you. No, I can hear you. Yeah yeah yeah go ahead. lg: Okay. What? Can you hear me? you can hear me. Okay. Okay. Okay. okay. We our our group chat for everybody who at home has grown, you know, tremendously. And migs: Here we go. lg: we've been messaging everywhere on on mess like migs: Instagram. lg: Instagram, mobile, PlayStation. Our friend wants to open up, he's like, Hey, we start Discord Nar. I cannot be hap chasing messages again at Discord on Instagram. On I'm feeling migs: But could lg: I'm feeling like Ed right now. You know what? I feel migs: Yeah. lg: like I feel I'm feeling like you, I've I've taken on traits of both of you because now for Miguel's side, I don't need to watch this anymore. It doesn't interest me. I'm not gonna watch it. And then from Ed, it's like, this this reel wasn't funny. I don't have to watch it. I don't have to react. whatever. I'll skip through it. Like they're j they're just pieces from both of y'all that I'll pick up now. But I'll tell you one thing. And I've told you this before, and I've and it stays true all the time. And I know Eric's gonna listen to this because he's a great listener. He's a great listener. And I migs: here we go. Here we go. And this is not against Eric. lg: it's not against Eric. This is just who I am, built as a person. You know what I mean? And I feel like I have the strength to say this because of my Miguel side of me is coming out to say it, okay? migs: Whoa. Okay, good. lg: is that like I'm not gonna do a three-minute reel. I'm not watching it, and I won't do it. But what I have been doing lately is I don't know if you know about this feature on Instagram where if you're watching a reel, you go to the right side and you click it and it says summarize. migs: Louise. lg: And so there'll be a stand up bit and I'm like, God damn, three minutes. I'm not sticking around for this. I'll go to the right bar and then I'll click summarize. It's like this man jokes around about having brothers or something like that. I'm like, okay, I get it. And then I move on. Like from the first second, migs: We lg: I get the tone, I get the joke. Let's move on. Some people be saying be lingering on the jokes for too long. I'm saying they're right now. Like, and you know what, maybe that's a me thing. Whatever. migs: I th yeah. Can I ask you something? If Eric outside of social media, if Eric comes to you and he's like, Hey Luis, there's a comedian lg: Yeah. migs: coming to the comedy club, let's let's go the comedy store even, all right? The the lg: beautiful, yeah. migs: the spot, let's go watch him for forty five minutes. You gotta go watch? Eric's like, I bought the tickets, I buy you drinks, let's go. lg: yeah, I love live comedy. I love live comedy. I would love to go see live comedy. I'm not seeing it on my phone. No. migs: But the ph but the phone? No. I think I've said this before to you. It's it's also like the double tap to do like two times the speed. lg: Dude Brother, I went from double tab speed to just give me a summarization of it. migs: Dude, I know, I know. I've said this before, but I like I'll accidentally do it on FaceTime too, I have like double tap and I'm like, wait, this is this is lg: Yeah. migs: a whole person that's talking to me right now. lg: Yeah. I did that with the with a FIFA World Cup. I was watching it live and I like, Double tap no, this is live. I kept but a live person is migs: This is live. Yeah, this is lg: No, I I watch of I love St I of course I love Stan. I love to be in the invi I love to be in the room where it happens, migs: Can I ask you? lg: you know. migs: Okay, Hamilton. All right. if I if I send you a a link and I say something like Luis lock in. And that's me saying lg: I will lock in. migs: that's me saying, I know it's a long one. I know, I know that you don't like a three minute reel or right or TikTok or whatever. And lg: Yeah. migs: I say, Hey Luis, please like lock in, this is worth it. Do you watch that? lg: I'll watch it. I will. I will. If it's migs: All right. All right. lg: just like, I know you don't, but watch this. It's like, okay. migs: I I I've said this to a few different people, it's like if I send a specific video that I think the one person, I'm like, dude, I could not send this to anyone else. Like this is you, you know? lg: Yeah. Yeah yeah yeah. Well Ed makes a good point too. I think, you know, and I really respect it when he said this was like when I get a a reel sent directly to me, it's like, migs: okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that's well let me well let me ask lg: You know, it's like I'm like this is special. Wait, what do you mean? Have I skipped those? migs: no, no, let me ask you. Like I do send you specific reels. Do you actually lg: I do migs: watch them? lg: I think I I would like to say in my memory right now, I think I do. I I migs: here we go. Two times. Two times you know, that's fine. lg: think that's fine, but I d I will watch it through. It's just like what happens now is because our group is so big and it's like unrelentless. It's like it's like I'm getting hit. huh. Okay. migs: I know. It's boop boop boop boop. Yo, can I tell you something? Let's talk about this now. All right? Yo, Instagram needs to chill with that four plus shit. Like, I need you to tell me there's 90 videos here for you to watch lg: I know. I know. migs: so that I can go, no. When you say four plus, I go, well, five's not that bad. You lg: yeah. migs: know, like I can watch five videos real quick, but then it's 30 videos. And it's like lg: And you know what you know when it gets bad is when I click it and it doesn't even scroll all the way up. I gotta scroll. It's like it didn't even have the dignity to be like, no, that's too much for me, bro. You're gonna scroll up. And it's like, okay, this is a like and you go and you see it's a lot. migs: So we have these these massive group chats, but what I love is that when Luis, Ed, and me all kind of lock in, because there's lg: Yeah. migs: like a moment in the day where it's like I could tell Luis is clicking videos and I'm clicking videos at the same time. lg: Uh-huh. migs: Because you'll be like reacting and I'll be reacting to something different. And then lg: Yeah, yeah, yeah. migs: we'll we're sending each other something, but we're reacting to that at the same time. Like, okay, me and Luis are locked in. But then today I sent a video. Ed never looks at the chat. Like never. And then I said something that I was like, Ed, ha ha ha. And he was there like point five seconds later. I was like, What the fuck is happening? What? I didn't know Ed lg: Crazy. I know. migs: could do that, you know? Bryce, never. All right. Bryce lg: But the price would never migs: Bryce comes in, but surprisingly will respond to something forty five text later. You're like, damn, he is keeping up. You know what I mean? lg: Yeah. Yeah. migs: There's there's a ebb and flow to our chats, you know? lg: He's like Mothra, he'll just come in on the lot like when you need him to come and then he'll never return again, you know? migs: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. He's one of those where he'll like he'll send me ten reels and I'll respond to all of them. And then I'll send him a reel and then a week will go by and he'll be like, lg: Yeah. migs: ha ha'll be like, Okay, thanks Bryce, man, I appreciate that. I forgot about that, you know? Yeah, no, no, no, no, no. lg: Okay. Yeah yeah yeah. I see what kind of man you are. No I'm kidding. No, no, no. It's just it it it's like and I've I've been finding myself doing that. Yeah. migs: Can I tell you something? I think I've said this before, maybe, but like if I go into a group chat and like three people have ha ha'd a video, I'll just kind of ha ha it like I'll just be like, I get it. Without even actually getting it. I'll just be like, no, I'll just be like, lg: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Opening it. migs: ha because it's it's you guys, it's our chat, it's the other chat, it's you and me, or you and Ed, lg: I know, I know. I know. migs: and then it's like, and then it's like, The girls also. It's like the fan bam and then it's like Ed and Sarah and me. Right, right, right. And lg: And then I'm sure y and then I'm sure you have your own too, you know what I mean, with different groups and stuff, yeah. migs: it's just like, dude, I've got people that are like, I'll get to you when I get to you and lg: Yeah. migs: it's just but not just 'cause the chat's so fucking big. What is just podcast even? We're just like we're we get Yeah. Yeah. lg: No, no, it's good. This is good. I tell you one last thing. Well, no, I'm gonna keep that I'm gonna keep that one in pocket. All right. What did you want to talk about, my cousin Vinny? migs: my god, I forgot about that. No, let's wrap this up. Well, I will say this. Okay, I went to the library the other day, and that's my new thing. Like, I missed Blockbuster. I think I said this to Ed. And I went to this library and it was like literally thousands of DVDs and Blu-rays. lg: Wow. migs: And I was just like, Am I in the fucking criterion closet right now? You know, like holy lg: Yeah. Yeah. migs: shit. And I I told myself, okay, I knew I was gonna have this week to myself, and I was like, I want to pick movies. That I haven't seen before. and I'm just gonna give them a go. And I know Ed really wants me to watch Lawrence of Arabia, but it's four hours, and my cousin Vinny is like a tight 90, you know what I mean? lg: Yeah, yeah, yeah. migs: But it's a classic, and I watched it today and I was like, Yeah, it really is like of its time. it's like w I I I watched by the end of it, I was like, this is like a play, you know, like this is a theatrical experience, like in a movie. Does that make sense? lg: Interesting. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. migs: It's like it's very like it's a very tight script where it's like everything serves something and then it's like paid off in the end. and it's like really driven by the character performances, right? Like I'm I was always surprised that like fucking my god. lg: she was in Spider Man. migs: No, not her. She's amazing, okay? I'm talking about Vinny himself. I'm fucking lg: Joe Pesce. migs: Joe Pesci. I'm I w I wanna say Danny DeVito. Joe Pesci is just like, there's a reason why he did Home Alone, and it's because my cousin Vinny, he like nailed that. Like he lg: Uh-huh. migs: just like he was doing bits that were really like of the time were like bits. But now you would look at it and go, like, yeah, it's very like tight. You know, like he lg: Mm-hmm. migs: Like nothing was spared, you know? And Marissa Tomei, I remember she got the Oscar nom for this movie. And lg: Yeah. migs: I as I was watching it, I like, Yeah, she's pretty good. But then there's the standout moment and it's like, there it is, you know. lg: Okay. migs: and yeah, no, I just like I walked I did watch it over like two sessions because I was like, Okay, I get it. Let me go do something droids probably tycoon. lg: Yeah. migs: and then I sat down and I watched it and I was just like, man, I really locked in. This is really good. Every character gets their the bad guys get the comeuppance, the good guys get their respect. everyone walks away like kind of where they should be, you know. Have you lg: Yeah. migs: ever seen this? lg: No, I've never seen it. I've been wanting I I I kinda wanna see it. migs: Dude, no, same, like every now and then it comes up and I'm like, yeah, I should probably watch that movie. And then when I sat down and did it, I was like, yeah, yeah, it's a fucking like nineties movie, you know? lg: Yeah, yeah, yeah. migs: Ralph Macchio is like the young kid of the movie, you know? Yeah, and it's like it it's lg: Wow. I honestly don't know I know nothing about this movie, so if I put it on it'd be like a hoot. migs: Okay, I don't even want to tell you. It's like the way that they get into like the court drama of it, you're like, This is how it happens? but it's what yeah. lg: I lo I love it's like what Simpsons does. It's like we start here and then we actually end up over here. Is it that kind of situation? Okay, migs: Yeah, yeah, yeah. No. Yeah, lg: okay. migs: yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And then it was like a a lot of like the the audience and the character discovering the path together, you know. And Joe lg: Yeah. migs: Pesci, Marsa Tome really are the stars of this movie, but a lot of these side characters are like the like the meat also. Like you're chewing on throughout this. So yeah, no, I I I didn't actually I threw it on there because I never have anything new to talk about. but yeah, no, it was on and I watched lg: There you go. migs: it on a DVD, not a Blu-ray, okay? So it was like fuzzy, it wasn't lg: Yeah. migs: like clear, like I went to the DVD menu, like all the pictures are pixelated, you know, lg: Yeah, yeah, yeah. migs: the screen's only like here. lg: That's cool. migs: Nah dude, I had a good time. Dude, go to your local library, get a card, lg: Yeah. migs: it's free, and then like just like check out a movie. lg: That might be fun. Like a date night, migs: Like it's kind of fun. lg: yeah. migs: I walked through the whole thing. I told my son, I said you pick a couple movies. And it's just like, lg: that's awesome. migs: yeah, it's just like, yeah, I could I could find all of this on streaming or Plex or whatever. Like I can lg: Right. migs: like you can do that. But there was something about like grabbing it and making the choice to be like, and there was another guy on my aisle who was like, we were going down the alphabet, right? And I was ahead of him. And so it was like, okay, he's coming behind me. Like when I see something, I better pick it. You know? And lg: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. migs: there was like a fun energy about it, dude. lg: Man, that's cool. I I gotta check out my my Burbank one. I feel like it's may not be as big as the one you're saying, but that that is like a fun idea. migs: Luis, this is like the fifth library I've gone to and I've seen all different sizes of libraries. And some have movie section. It's the fucking library, dude. There's books. That's the thing. You're there for books. lg: Yeah. migs: And so sometimes you go to the movie section and it's tiny and you go, Yeah, of course. But I walked into this one and then they had like a whole foreign film section. And then they had a whole Russian film section. And it was like, lg: Whoa. migs: I didn't even realize the side of town I was on, you know? Where you could lg: Yeah. migs: dedicate Hundreds of Russian movies. lg: La Ruska, I don't know. migs: I'm telling you too. My cousin Benny, ten out of ten. I get why people lg: Alright. migs: like it. lg: Well, there you go. Wow. What a good episode. What? What a migs: You know I didn't I didn't have to talk about that. We could have got it. lg: No, I'm glad you did. I I've heard people talk about it, but it's always better when, you know, your Ed talk about it 'cause then it makes it like migs: Watch it. Watch it for next week. Do it. Nah, you could do it. You could do it. lg: Okay. You think I yeah, you think I could do it? Okay. migs: Ninety minutes, Luis. lg: I'll break it up into six pieces. How about that? migs: He lg: No, next week we're going to talk about. I mean, we I might, you know, I might talk about that, but we'll definitely talk about Spider-Man brand new day that's coming out. I got my tickets for Saturday, I think. but we'll be here. Ed will be here. Until then, it's been me, Luis Gonzalez. And with me's been. And migs: Miguel Sanchez. lg: until next time, Ladigators.
