Bryan Alan White: Welcome back. This is the Father's Proxy where we are. Pro XY. We're your host. I'm Brian. This is Jamie Z. We are back in Genesis. Imagine that. Here we are again. So last week we were talking about Abraham and Isaac, the symbolism between their story and Jesus and the resurrection story, and how the story of Abraham and Isaac is the scapegoat story for the resurrection. We talked about the Day of Atonement. And the importance of sacrifices in the Old Testament. Today we're picking back up in Genesis. We left off last week in Genesis 22, 14. Now we're going to be in 15, and we're going to go through verse 19. We're going to wrap it up, basically, but we'll walk you through it. And the angel of the Lord, which is Jesus, called to Abraham a second time from heaven and said, By myself I have sworn, declares the Lord, because you have done this and you have not withheld your son, your only son. Who does that sound like? Jesus. I will surely bless you, and I will surely multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven. And remember, he says that to him already. God had made the covenant with Abraham, and he said it in Genesis 12. I think he says it again in Genesis 15. So this is the again they're saying that. And he says, As the sand that is on the seashore, and your offspring shall possess the gate of his enemies, and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed. So that's an important verse, and we'll come back to that one. Because you have obeyed my voice. So Abraham returned to his young men, and they arose and went together to Beersheba. And Abraham lived in Beersheba. And then to end the chapter, it's 20 through 24, and that's mainly lineage. So you can read that if you'd like. Sometimes those names you really have to study. So back to the verse that I was talking about. so surely I will bless you. And he's talking about the multiply your offspring. That's verse 17 and then 18. It says, and in your offspring shall all the nations of the earth be blessed. The thing that stood out the most, it said offspring, that was singular, it wasn't plural. And that's referring to the one and only son. That's right. Weird. The begotten son. Exactly. The one and only son. So the phrase possess the gate of his enemies is a poetic expression. and it's talking about conquering and taking control of the cities or strongholds of the enemy, or in this case, sin. Conquering sin because Jesus, the angel of the Lord, said that, and he's gonna conquer sin later on. Again, scapegoat story for Jesus. So this is a revelation about salvation. So let's backtrack a little bit to Genesis 3, verse 15. 14 starts with God saying to the serpent. So it starts off, this is after the fall of man, and he says, God saying to the serpent, and and as we pick up in 15, it says, I will put enmity between you and the woman and your offspring and her offspring. Referencing Jesus, the offspring, the seed. he shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel. So Jesus is our curse reverser. and the curse reverser is the seed of the woman, the offspring, Jesus, singular. We see that this is it's showing us that salvation is gonna come through man, right? and our mirror image, because we were made in the image of God, so now the reverse mirror of that is God taking on the form of man, and he's gonna Become our scapegoat, right? Again, scapegoats. Pretty crazy. It's saying that the seed will redeem mankind from sin, which we've said that a lot. we can find the seed multiple time times through Genesis, where he's referencing Jesus in particular, but the seed, Genesis 3:15, Genesis 9, 9, Genesis 17, 7, Genesis 26, 3, Genesis 28, 4, Genesis 48, 4. Those are going to reference the seed. It's like he wanted to for it was like he was already foreshadowing prophecy right from that one phrase. And I mean they st he starts doing it at the very beginning of the book. If you look at it, he already had that chess move. He already had it figured out like, you ruined my plan? I've already got a backup. Sorry, buddy. Yeah. And that's all he does is chess moves. I mean checkmate point game over. That's it. I love how you go from From chess to tennis game set match. Anyway. I did play and I was number one on my team. Hey, there you go. Ace. Hey. We know an ace. His name's Jesus. Anyway, the great ace. So if we if you remember last week, we were talking about Abraham going to the land of Mariah, which is also Golgotha. Later is it's Golgotha. The place of the skull. Right. So the place of the skull. And then why is it called the place of the skull? Because that's where you're about to dig deep buddy that's where David he so he david kills Goliath he cuts Goliath's head off and he goes and buries it and then becomes the place of the skull so that's where Goliath's skull is also under there is the Ark of the Covenant which we talked about David represents Jesus Goliath represents sin Jesus defeats sin right so there's our first symbolism there But then as we as we look back at Genesis 3.15, like we said, it says God will put enmity. Ooh, I just I'm thinking of David and Goliath when he said, I will crush his head. And it's like, how did how did Goliath die? By a stone crushing his head. Holy Spirit, have your way, brother. Exactly. Have your way. Exactly, dude. That's everything he does, it has so many meanings and purpose. And it's it's it's beautiful. And you'll have these revelations as you start to read. The Bible and you get more into it. But again, it says God says he will put enmity, hostility, hatred, ill will, how whatever you're gonna say, between the serpent and the woman and her offspring. Offspring, Jesus, singular. The devil hates all mankind and he hates God, that's for sure. So that we see that enity. Like you said, bruising of the of the head and the feet. Goliath is the skull, and the head represents sin. And then Jesus is pierced feet, he defeats sin and he's They're crushed, it's crushed under his feet, right? When he's on the cross under his feet, like you can't make that up. It's it's just how beautiful it is. And so let's reference the New Testament. Romans 16, verse 20 says, The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Again, Jesus. Hebrews 2:5 through 18. Talks about the the founder of salvation and a few verses to be on the lookout for is let's look at seven and eight where it says talking about Jesus, and he made him a little while lower than the angels, and you have crowned him with glory and honor, putting everything in subjection under his feet. Okay, we get back to feet. and then let's look at verse 16. For surely it was not angels that he helps. But he stand he helps the offspring of Abraham. Okay, we're back to Abraham. back to that offspring. Mm-hmm. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect so that he might become merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God to make propitiation for the sins of the people. So basically he had to atone for our sins. And it's like going back to Abraham, I love how he said, he's basically saying, if you obey and follow me, I'll make you victorious for this time and the time to come. And even when you're gone, you're still gonna live in victory. Exactly. And then and we see, like you said, with Abraham and the covenant, multiple places in Genesis is where God's making a covenant covenant with Abraham, and it's known as the seed of Abraham. Genesis 12, 1 through 3, we talked about that before. Abraham and he will make the great nation, and through him all the nations will be blessed. This promise is where God specifically mentions Abraham's seed. So that's where we see the seed. and then Genesis 5 or 15, 5 highlights that Abraham's descendants would be numerous. So we talked about that. it's talking about the imagery of the stars in the sky. And the sand and the seashore, and it's symbolizing the vast scope of God's plan for Abraham's lineage. And the covenant was reaffirmed in Genesis 17, 7 through 8, because he talks about it again. The land of Canaan was promised as an inheritance, but this also had a deeper spiritual meaning, pointing to the ultimate inheritance believers receive through Christ. and then God established circumcision as a physical sign of the covenant in Genesis 17, 10 through 11, which we talked about that. and the circumcision was a visible mark symbolizing their commitment to God's covenant. However, in the New Testament, circumcision of the heart is emphasized, which we've talked about that the true mark of belonging to God. Romans 2, verse 28 through 29 says, For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical, but a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart by the Spirit. Not by the letter, his praise is not from man, but from God, saying, Now we're adopted in because Jesus saved us, Jews and Gentiles alike. We all became one in Christ, right? In Christ as the thing. And so the physical and spiritual seed of Abraham would be his descendants, which we talked about, you know, his actual physical ones, which is Isaac and Ishmael. But the covenant promised continued through Isaac only. Ishmael. And the reason is Isaac was chosen because of his bloodline. through God's design, which leads directly to Jesus. Ishmael's bloodline did not lead to Jesus. And it was it was war and chaos. Yeah. That's what it was birthed into. A wild donkey of a man, right? Ishmael. But but so Ishmael they didn't go with with God's plan and they tried to do it on their own, which is what happens. You see it? We've talked about it a million times. Sounds like today's religion. Yeah, or most of today and w what we want to do, our own prideful way. Like I got this. No, you don't. We don't got it. We don't got it. and then later, see from Isaac and Jacob, Jacob is later named Israel, and the twelve sons become the twelve tribes of Israel. The Israelites as Abraham's physical descendants were given the law in the land of Canaan, fulfilling the part of God's promise. So that's where he back to fulfilling those promises again. He's always bringing is going to come through. truthfully. Yeah, and then the the physical descendants of Abraham played a crucial role in God's redemptive plan. The nation of Israel was chosen to be the light of nations, a people through whom the Messiah would come, which we've talked about that already. However, being a physical descendant of Abraham did not automatically guarantee participation in God's ultimate promise, as faith was always required. So Romans nine verses six through nine, it says, But it it is not as though the word of God has failed for Not all who are descended from Israel belong to Israel, and not all who are children of Abraham because they are his offspring, but through Isaac shall your offspring be named. This means that is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as offspring. For this is what the promise said. About this time next year I will return and Sarah shall have a son. So we're not automatically guaranteed, but it's our faith that gets us there. While the the physical seed of Abraham refers to the biological descendants, the New Testament reveals an ultimate fulfillment of God's promise, which includes all who have faith in Christ. And that'd be let's look at Galatians three, verse seven. It says, No, then that is those of the faith who are the sons of Abraham. And again, these are gonna reference Abraham a lot. Well that's almost it's almost like you have lineage, but then you almost have the spiritual lineage. If you really dig down the pipe. And we see how it intertwines Old Testament, New Testament, and how they they just flow together. And most people don't understand. Like they think, New Testament or the Reformed stuff. It's like, look, this all goes together. Like you can't have the old without the new. Shocking. Let's go on in Galatians. So Galatians 3, verse 16 says, Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, and to Offsprings referring to many but referring to one and to your offspring who is Christ. Proofs in the words. Proofs in the pudding. so Paul is clarifying that Jesus is the ultimate seed of Abraham here, through whom the blessing of the covenant would extend to all people. Christ fulfills that promise given to Abraham by bringing salvation to the world and establishing a spiritual family that transcends ethnicity and nationality. There's that spiritual lineage. So the blessings, we see the blessings of the seed of Abraham, one of the greatest blessings. Blessings given to the seed of Abraham is justification by faith. And they talk about that a lot. and we'll talk about a lot, but it's faith by grace is why we're saved, right? Well, if you go forward and look in Hebrews, there's a whole chapter about faith. Without faith, this wouldn't have happened. So it just solidifies that he gave you the blueprint. You just have to follow and trust him. And in Glee Galatians three, verse twenty nine, it says, if you are Christ, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise. this means that if you believe in Christ, you become heirs in the promises given to Abraham, regardless of your ethnic background. you fulfill the prophecy that through Abraham all families of the earth shall be blessed. We see that in Genesis twelve three, and like we said in Genesis twenty two, eighteen. so he's gonna bless all the families. So through Christ, believers are not only justified, but they become partakers of the kingdom of God. Let's fast forward again to Romans four, verse thirteen. For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world would not come through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. Right? So, like you said, we're talking about faith. Faith makes you a true heir of Abraham's blessings. It's not your works. Nothing that you do can make you, you know, a believer. Right? It it's it's all through faith. You have to to believe. Well, if you look at it, Abraham was before the law was even made or established. Exactly. You know, we walk in faith and obedience. James 2, verse 23 says, and the scripture was fulfilled that says Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness, and he was called a friend of God. Right? So faith in God results in obedience to him. You're made righteous through Jesus. As heirs of Abraham's covenant with God, we're called to shine the light of Christ to the world. Matthew five sixteen. That's right. Verses fourteen through sixteen say you are the light of the world, as a city set on the hill cannot be hidden, nor do people light a lamp and put it under your basket. Put on a stand and give light to all the house, in the same way let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to the Father who is in heaven. I have that tattooed on my body, 'cause it if you really look at it though. Right on my arm. Matthew 5 16. And zoom in on that. But you know, I think that can sum up Jesus' life because people saw what he did and knew, okay, this guy's different. Like I I don't remember where it is, but I remember the Pharisees went to a guard and said, Seize that man. And one of the guards said, clear as day, I've never heard a man speak like him. I'm not touching him. And it's like a soldier knew it. Yet the Pharisees who studied this day and night still didn't get it. And we've brought this up numerous times. Think about that. And to the people listening and watching, the people that read this and knew this the most missed it. They missed it. Yeah. And I've always said, What makes you believe? Show me where he lied and I'll stop believing. And my question is, is did they want to actually see it in the first place? I that's my thing. I think that they were so prideful that They I I don't know. It's it's hard to imagine. You've got it right in front of you and it was playing out. Cause for us, we're in, you know, after the death of Jesus. And so we're way past all the stuff that happened, right? They're it they're living it real time. So how would you have reacted if you had something in your possession that tells you exactly what's about to happen? What I would give to see him in action, just to be there and witness that and just be. And you're gonna deny that? That's pretty amazing. And it makes you think, like, how would you have acted or what would you have done in that time? Like, would you have followed Jesus? To see a man that was four days dead come back to life and just be, I still don't believe. And it's like, I'd be pr I'd be a little, whoa, he just walked out that casket. And 'cause he just went and touched it. And you you brought up Lazarus. And what What to me is crazy, because you look at Genesis, the very beginning, where it's what? God spoke, let there be light, right? Boom. You know, and he talks about the heavens and the earth, and he he speaks everything to existence. And then there's people that'll say, Well, Jesus isn't God. He never said he was God. It's like, well, God spoke the world into existence. Jesus did everything through words, and he says, Lazarus, come out. He just brought a man back from the dead, and you go, he's not God? Sir. And for the Pharisees to be By what authority are you doing this? And it's like some really good big high standing authority. Yeah. I'm the authority of the father, sir. I could look at hey, wake up and I'm not gonna get the reaction he got. I'm not gonna get those results, even on my best day. And it wasn't once, it's multiple times. It's almost like if you really look at it, it's like the Pharisees wanted to be the ones to save the people. because it's like, can you imagine just like auto commentary of How do we kill this guy? How do we get rid of him? Yeah, well, it's because it was affecting their agenda. They wanted the attention. And it's like sometimes we fall short of that. yeah. We wish it was all on us when it's all about him. And it's it's hard, right? Because it like you when you do a lot of good things, you're like, look, I did it. I did it, but it's all through. I have a side story of that. I was meeting one of my favorite Christian rappers, seven. The guy came to me and said, Hey, I'm canceling the show. And I was working valet, so I was stacking money. I said, Hey, what do I have to pay? And he goes, Come up with 400 and I'll make this happen. I flew Bizzle. I got seven down here. And I kind of had that. Well, I made this and I made that. I wanted all the attention. I wanted the glory. And now I realize it's not ours, it's his. yeah. I had to learn the hard way. I'm glad I'm not there anymore. But that's what we want. We want the attention. We want the glory. And we want it to be about us. We want to be that hero. It goes back to that pride thing. But also like you said, with faith, faith is through grace. It's not something we possess. It's something that is given to us by the grace of God. We do we don't get that So no man may boast and I was boasting. And like we talked about before when you're talking about you gotta let your light shine so other people can see. That happens in today, right now, when people and you it happened to you where people coming up and go, Hey dude, tell me what what do you do? Like how do how do you you know How does how do you so happy? Why are you doing this? Well, it's like in the praise report I gave in the men's group was we have like a fresh market at our job in our break room. And this guy I would see every day. He wouldn't talk, he wouldn't associate. Well, one day I walk in with my Bible and he said, Man, you always have your Bible on you. He goes, What's the word? What book are you in? I said, Jeremiah. And he goes, Can you read me Psalm 27? And I ended up reading it. And my buddy Mikey that actually came to church. He actually wants to come to the marriage conference. So we've got another brother plugged in. Shout out to Mikey. he said, Bro, it sounds like you've done this your entire life. And I said, and it and it got me emotional because it's like, I never cared about this, bro. When you have a true encounter with him, it's like the scales are gone, and it's like, I'm not the hero, I don't know everything. He died for the villains. And it's like, I will give my life for him because. He changed my life, man. Yeah. It took me for I was like, I can't read this. I'm not like that's just I'll I'll you know, I'll do my thing, but I'm not gonna read that. And you start to realize that's just nothing but pride. It's saying you haven't really had an encounter with him, or you may not have. And if you have, okay, then are you trusting him? Right. Because when you have that encounter, it's like, dude, I don't want to do anything but learn as much as I can about him. Cause like you saved my life. If somebody saves your life in this day and age, are you gonna go, cool? I don't even know that guy's name. No, you're gonna know the dude's name, you're gonna know who he is, you're gonna know his family, you're gonna do something for him, you're gonna tell everybody about this dude who saved your life. And yet, when it's Jesus, you go, you know, this dude, it's like, no, it no, that's not how it works. And the more that you start to to actually give up, you know, your own fleshly desires to you know give. to actually surrender to Christ and go, look, I'm yours. I'll do what you want. And I start reading. Then it's like, man, I get upset if I can't read this. If I don't have my time to read, I'm like, man, something's wrong. I need to be in this. I want to learn more. And I want and I never would have called myself a reader. You can tell I stumbled through reading right now to you guys, but I do it because this is what we're called to do. Just like we said, with showing your light and planting that seed. Which is the seed of Christ. And I know it's hard for some because you're like, hey man, I want to tell people about Jesus and I want to convert them. It's not us. It's not us. And that's part of the hard part when you go, it's like your job is to plant the seed. Right. If you plant a seed right now for a plant, I put it in the ground, ain't nothing I'm doing gonna do, even if I water it or whatever, I ain't gonna make that plant grow. It is is out of my control. I can do all the external stuff for the seed, but I can't make it grow. I can only give it the things that it needs, right? Our job is to plant the seed for folks. Live with the light shining through you to let everybody see who you are. And then you plant the seed, and if it don't take, it ain't you. It's the person in their heart that says, no, I don't want that. They reject it. I ran into another guy that worked at my job. His name was Gordon. I almost didn't even recognize him. I'm walking into Walmart with my Bible and he goes, You're still walking with that Bible. He goes, I remember you from Karis. And I literally was like, Who is this guy? Who was this? Gordon. He goes, Hey, I just wanted you to know, me and my wife go to church now and we serve. And he said it was the best decision I ever made. And it's like, you feel like you're not doing enough. You can plant the seed without even talking. It's how you live. When they see it in action, it's totally different. Same here, bro. same story. But my thing is is I know my boys are watching me and that's who I want to see me. Like that's what gets me emotional. It's like, man, I want to see them there one day. Yeah. That's what scares me too. It's like if I don't do this, this could affect them and their kids and their kids' kids and so on and so forth. That ripple effect that we've talked about. It's the descendants, like Abraham. Exactly. The stars. And you go, Man, I want as many stars as I can see. It's the warmth of a father. That'll bring a kid to Christ more than anything else. It's not, you know, anything but the warmth of the father's heart. And then, like, that's what's crazy to me is that it's the father in the family that brings him. Because the father brings us, and it's like, you know, right? And it's, but that's what tugs at me is like, man, I want my kid to see that I'm I'm gonna do what Jesus called me to do. And I knew that, like, I never, I mean, several years of his life. I was not following Jesus. And it wasn't until later that it hit me. And it's like, dude, it's time. And for me, it was I didn't want to be in church. we have to go. Great. And now it's I'm going. I'm gonna be I am not missing it. Exactly. You're right. So again, our job isn't to make the plant grow, it's to plant the seed. So remember that, guys. Like we said, and we said it in the last one, go. Tell others about Jesus. Show others who Jesus is just by your actions. And you're going to get closer to God just by reading his word and doing what he says. I mean, it's pretty simple. Faith and obedience. Well, I have another story was one day, this was a couple years ago, I was sitting in my break room reading, and I literally said, God, I just don't feel like I'm doing enough for you. I had 10 people walk in, one by one. Hey, what's your favorite Bible verse? And they we I would show them my favorite and then they would point out their favorite. So once again, you feel like you're not doing enough. God is in control and he will show and reveal himself. Absolutely. And that was one of my favorite days ever. Because it was just random people that I didn't even think read the Bible, like the delivery guy. He's a full blown believer. And I just was like, What's up, big homie? I mean, I was happy to see him and he was happy to see me. And now it's like We have that bond and that trust. And it's like there's no better bond than the word of God. Yeah. Coming from a former addict, I thought they were my friends. They just liked the drugs I had. They liked the party favors I had. Now it's I get to share the living word, the real rock, not that other rock. I get to share the one that is everlasting. Yeah. Not that high that goes away. The most high is forever. Mm-hmm. And that that grace of Jesus, man. As Joby Martin says, you cannot outsend God's grace for you. Nothing you can do can outsend that. So no matter so no matter what you do, you cannot get out of the grasp of God if that's where you want to be. That's the thing. Is you gotta want it. If you don't want it, and and we all struggle. I know I struggle because I'm thinking, man, I'm not worthy of this, I'm not good enough, I keep screwing up and it's like, dude. How arrogant and prideful are you to not say, like Jesus said you're saved and you're gonna say, I don't think I'm saved, bro. Really? And he says that in the book, but it's like that's the thing. It's like you when you give it to him, it's his. Let him take it. And all that stuff is washed away, like we talked about with the Day of Atonement. It's gone. And you're his and you're righteous through him. It's amazing. And it's only through him. We always think we have another backup plan. That's the problem. That's the thing. He is the plan and the only plan. And it's when you dig deep into it, it was the most beautiful plan to save humanity because we couldn't save ourselves. It's the only way to save humanity. We got ourselves into it. And then what did he do? He had to get us out. But thank God he did, right? So, all right, guys, plant the seed. Speaking of planting the seed, you can't plant a seed without telling your story. So we're going to challenge you guys to share your testimony and Plant seeds in someone else's life. Father God, I pray for everything from audio to picture quality, that nothing is attacked. I just pray for our chief and editor editor, Brian Norfolk. He's just been a huge blessing. I pray for my brother Brian. I pray for myself, and I just pray for our families as we leave here. May we just be safe. God, please be with us wherever we go, that we are not afraid to share your word. We're not afraid to share your gospel. And we never a test definitely produces a testimony. And we just want to share all the glory with you and give you the honor and praise. And I just thank you so much for what you did on that cross, because we couldn't have gone through it. And I thank you for saving me. I'm 320, no, 330 days clean, and it is only through you and through your grace. And Father God, I just ask that you bless us, you keep us. And we stay in your word, we stay hungry for your word, we stay thirsty for the word, and that we can just shine through for others to see. And it's in in your son's precious name we pray. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. This is the Father's Proxy where we are. Pro XY, led by the Holy Spirit.
