Kev: Welcome back to a well-delayed new episode of Rage Well with the original three. It's myself, Kev, with Drew and James. And we're gonna talk about, to be honest, I think a pretty exciting film, and it blew me away actually. I just to bury the lead a little bit. But Resident Evil came out of nowhere, and I think it was very, very impressive. But before we go into that, just a general like How is everyone before we go talk movies? How are you, James? We haven't haven't seen James: Splendid. Splendid, splendid. It's been many a moon, hasn't it? Many a moon. Kev: been a while. It's been my fault. Yeah. Drew: Has been has been a minute, like the kick the cool kids say. Kev: My my internet has been screwed from builders outside who severed it. Took me out in two months, but we're back. it's all good. Drew: Bastards. Were the builders running their own podcasts? Were they just trying to take out the competition? Yeah. How dare they? How dare they? Kev: Think so. I think so. That's that's the thing. But what is it the the big news for me and James anyway, is that we both got tickets for Oasis at Nebworth of all places. Days unfortunately, Drew: What Kev: but we got it. Drew: Shut every single fecking door, lads, that's incredible. Kev: Did you try to get them the first time? James: I didn't try to get in the second time. Someone Do you wanna go? and I Yeah. Kev: Bunus. Drew: How much were they ridiculous though? I heard they were like two hundred and fifty quid like the first time round or Kev: a hundred and seventy six. Drew: but that's I mean that's that's that's that yeah, that that is on yeah, yeah. Kev: That's not reasonable. That's a lot of money. I go see Arena gigs all the time and they bet they rarely break a hundred. They're usually like sixty, seventy, and a couple of like more pop artists might go into the low hundreds. Drew: Where are you seeing it from though? Like is there like a little where Kev: Yeah, James: Nebworth's just a big field. Kev: it's like a festival. Festival day. Drew: six. So James: So I reckon they'll Drew: you don't have to book James: s they'll release loads of support acts and it'll be like a day festival. Kev: Yeah. It'll be like it'll like Drew: okay. So you're not Kev: start two or three o'clock. Like when I saw like Fo like Foo Fires at like London Stadium, it started like with Frank Carter at two two PM. Then there's like four other bands and then Foo F like a whole they make a whole thing of it. Richard Ashcroft's already confirmed he's always there 'cause he he helped make Oasis big back in the day because Oasis supported the Verve and that's how they got noticed. So they always return the favour. So I'm hoping for some other big bands. Unfortunately I'm not into indie music. just Oasis and I love British Ashcroft but I know everything else not gonna be James: It'll be a much better vibe than than going to Wembley. Because when you're in a stadium, you're like just in a pen, a big pen where you can't really go anywhere or do anything. At least with Nedworth, you could just free roam and there'll be loads of food vendors, loads of bars, rather Kev: Yeah. James: than just having to queue at a little little vestibule thing in bloody Wembley for ages and paying like a tenor a bit, like and then having to carry it round in a big you'll be in a big open space. So I wouldn't Kev: Yeah. James: have probably paid that money to stand in on a football pitch because you do just it is a long day just being in a pen. Being able wander round and go to the top of the hill, try and worm your way to the front and that'd be a lot better, I think. Kev: Yeah, I think so. And yeah, like so I went to see Deft Tones a few weeks ago at Victoria Park in in London in the in the big park and it is like a festival you can wander around. There's loads of little things to do. Like if you're not if there's a crack band on, you can go and do things. There's like events and stuff you can do. It's pretty cool. James: Yeah, but I was at Nebworth the other week watching Iron Maiden and it was like so cool. They didn't come on till quite late, 'cause they had like the Darkness and the bunch of the Who, bunch of other support acts playing before It was like Kev: Did you say the who? James: Yeah, the H U, some Mongolian band. Yep. Kev: the her. Yeah, the hu. Yeah. Drew: Are you duh? Are you guys Kev: The hu. Drew: are you guys gonna rock the the blow up whale this time? Are you are you gonna gonna gonna reenact some some memories? Kev: Imagine. Did you see that where James put in like Chat GPT, Ragewell or something, it brought up the whole description of Reading Festival. Drew: Yeah, that was that was creepy. A AI is creep AI is our best stalker. I think AI is our Kev: Yeah. Drew: biggest fan. Kev: I'll have to post that on social media. Just states I mean they probably heard it from us, but Does it? To be fair James: funny and it says NME as the source. Yeah. It says NME plus one or something or plus two. Kev: Something was writ Drew: Enemy Kev: something was written, I'm sure it was. Because it was it was one of the first things that did that sort of thing. We weren't planning on doing it. We just bought it you well, you bought it for a swimming swimming pool, just for our just buy stupid stuff. 'Cause I think the year before you bought like a police car and a fire engine and you wore it James: Yeah, we had a police car and a fire engine, didn't we? Kev: Yeah, you like a little for kids, for little children to sit in a a blow up one, but they wore it as an outfit, put it around their waist and just walked around wearing toy car around them. Really random. So he upped the ante and bought swimming pool. Drew: You can drink and drive. You can actually drink and drive at least in in that festival. Kev: Yeah. James: We were showing up to where the fire brigades were and they were not impressed. We were like, Okay, boys, we're Drew: You're just like bumping into each other. Kev: No. James: here. And they're like, go away. Drew: They're like, guys, you've literally turned up like a car crash. So Kev: I might might wear some Rage Well merch. I don't have any indie clothes to fit in an Oasis gig. I've only got metal T shirts, so I'll have to wear some Rage Well merch to Oasis. Drew: How cool would it be if you just had a t shirt cannon and you could just fire out just some of our t shirts like kaboom. Just Kev: Okay, you pay for the t shirts, I'll get the gun. Drew: Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. Cool. Cool. James: And I'll get the gas for it. Drew: Someone just gets shot in the eye with a Rage Well t shirt. what who the fuck is responsible for Right, that's it. I'm gonna find these bastards. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Kev: gonna get sued by being generous, violently generous. Right, right. Resident Evil two thousand sixteen, Drew: Mm. Kev: which doesn't connect to any of the previous my my mate Ryan, who is a big Resident Evil fan of the games and has watched the films, he said he loved the fact that there was tons of Easter eggs to the film, even though the storyline's got nothing to do with the game. It's kind of his own set of thing. James: You know you just said twenty sixteen, right? Kev: Did I say sixteen? Twenty twenty six James: Yeah. Kev: I mean. James: I thought we start talking about Drew: I thought you said twenty twenty. James: another the last Resident Evil movie or something. Kev: No, that was a long time ago. But James, you know more about Resident Evil generally, don't you? You played the game. James: D do know what? I can tell you now that when that film ended, I just had confusion on my mind. I didn't know if I liked it or hate or didn't like it because it was a rug pull. Because the f the trailers I saw made it look like quite a serious, legit horror film. What I wasn't expecting was what I now realize is with borderline hot comedy horror. And yeah, Kev: Full comedy, I'd say. James: and because I wasn't expecting that. I think my initial reaction was a bit of confusion. It wasn't only until the next day when I was talking to a guy at work that had seen it. And we'd started talking about all the funny bits in it, like we'll go into more with the with the padlocks making a a a scene through the whole thing and Kev: Yeah. Drew: Yeah. James: driving into that because the whole beginning bit, he's he's that classic bumbling 'cause it sort of went to he's that classic bumbling idiot. It's like, well, what was the point in having all these different arcs? And then I realised because it's funny, that's why. Like all these little things, I They introduce a character and you think, he's actually got a second person to go on this journey with, whether it be spoiler alert, the girl, the woman with the gun, the bloke off karate kid and they're like killed immediately. Like and it was like a running gag that everyone he meets just dies instantly. Kev: Well well that was the thing as well, is that it yeah, it was funny, but Zack Kregger said in an interview, the director, that he he knew he was gonna use Austin Abrams as the main character Drew: Abraham, yeah. Kev: because he was so good in weapons. And he did some funny moments when he was trying to squeeze past a fence and weapons. And he just did it so funny that he was like, Drew: Yeah. Kev: this guy's funny and he doesn't even mean to. Him in a stressful situation is hilarious. He's not being funny. He just is funny. So he knew he was gonna put him in it because he wanted that right light relief. But he also said that the plot of the film, it's crazy, it's mental, it's unbelievable. And everyone gets annoyed at those people that Do the obvious in horror films as in the opposite of obvious, like run upstairs when you shouldn't run upstairs. Like he wanted to make this guy do what a normal human would do. Not a brave one, and not a stupid one, just one that doesn't know how to fire a gun, trying his hardest, is freaked out by something because he doesn't understand. And 'cause there's a couple of times in the film where he's like, he's gonna do the stupid thing, and he goes, Nope, and then runs the other way. And like it's annoying he didn't go through with it. But it's good that you didn't Drew: Yeah, but one of one of my favorite moments was with the ladder when he goes, and he's already thrown it at the dog and you're like, dude James: I I I did like the bit where he jo Kev: Yeah. James: goes to get the keys and the legs go a bit further. And you're expecting a monster Drew: yeah, it posted. James: to jump out or something and then he just goes, Fuck it, I couldn't find her Drew: Yeah, Kev: Yeah, that's the that's the bit. 'Cause it's clearly Drew: yeah, they just jumped buttons back. Yeah. Kev: the monster pulling the thing and and pulling him into a trap into the darkness. And you're like, no, he's gonna Drew: yeah. Kev: do it, he's gonna do it and he goes, Nope. James: I will say it's the it's the first time I've seen a film like that that's based not really based on a video game, it's not, it's just using Raccoon City and that. There's some references, but after I watched it, I did say to the guards with watching it, are going, I would love to play a video game of that. Like that whole film run through as a video game would be awesome. And I think that's what he was going for, and that's why the wacky monsters are there and the the jump scares and the ultimate jump scare, which was the stairs coming out of the RV. Drew: the the thing the thing Kev: There yeah. James: You know when you open the door and the stairs come out? Drew: the Kev: Yeah, yeah. Drew: I I would say it's interesting because I I don't know how many of the games you played, James, but this is almost like a crossbreed of Resident Evil Four because of the actual T virus that's making James: Yeah, it's a mix of all. You you had Biohazard, which was set in the house with Dr. Weird family. That's the angle I thought they were going with. And I was like, Drew: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. James: that's where they're going with the crazy woman. And then they went full on. So they kind of put it all in a mixing pot and saw it come out. Drew: And there's loads of homages to the thing, I think, with the the the dog's face opening up like that with the tentacles, and even the music that was what was done by Ennio Morricone, that da dum, doom, da dum. Like when you hear the music, yeah, Kev: Kind of el el electronic beats, isn't it? Drew: that kind of thump that's almost like a heartbeat, like boom, doom, dum- Kev: Well, Zack Kregor also he said that he 'cause there's there's some silent moments in the film. You probably don't even notice because it's just so tenseful, you're just in it. But he said he actually wanted the film James: A Kev: to almost have zero score. There's bits in weapons with those zero score as well. And he thought it was really powerful, but he said he started going down a route, giving it a try, and he just got sucked into it and used it throughout because it really is impressively tense. I didn't know you played the games. yourself as well. Drew: Yeah yeah yeah yeah man yeah yeah yeah yeah I I played yeah first one Resident Evil didn't I missed out three played four watched YouTube footage of five six seven probably but yeah yeah so cool man Kev: So cool man. Well James: Thing is though with Resident Evil games, they're not just like one type of game. Like they were at the beginning the sort of SWAT team going around the guy in the padded vest and then Biohazard was about the was basically a first person in a haunted house essentially or like a s crazy family's house, like Chain Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Then you had Village, which is like a spooky village, and then you've got Revelations, which is another new one. But it was really cool. I thought I I I went into it expecting a serious horror. And I think the confusion at the end was because I was like, What did I just watch? And it took me probably like the having a conversation with the next day to be like, fuck's sake, yeah. It was that bit was really funny. That bit was really good. Like that was actually hilarious. And over the space of like the day, I was like, I want to watch it again. That was amazing. Drew: it has a wonderful mix because it it's very impressive to be able to scare you, make you laugh, scare you again, make you laugh even more, scare you even more. and I love the kind of tension and the obviously the the continuity of like that whole bit where the where the cop car gets flipped and you see the the car, the the sirens in the background where he's running towards the house. And I just thought any moment now we're gonna see something happening in the background. Like, and then obviously, yeah. Kev: Yeah. It kept it there for so long, didn't it? You you knew something was gonna happen. So when it happened, you knew it was gonna happen. But the the tension was so high Drew: Yeah, yeah, but the way he builds the tension. Kev: it became funny rather than scary again. Drew: yeah, yeah, but but but then I was still scared when she's when she's legging it across the snow field and you can hear that and he's dealing with the shit going on in i in front of him Kev: Yeah. Drew: and when their two bodies are coming together like the tentacles and like they they become one, you're like, James: That was fucking weird. That's when the film Kev: Yeah. James: took a turn, when it you were like, this is gonna be fucking batshit crazy when the monster started rolling Kev: It it is gory and it is horror. James: when when it came out the door, like gloop gloop. Drew: Yeah. Yeah. But you know that's dancers, guys. This is amazing. Just to shout out quick to Brand Kev: Yeah. James: Real people, yeah. Drew: New Day as well. They they use they use dancers in Brand New Day to create all these kind of moving things. They're using more Yeah. They're using more dancers Kev: Yeah, they cellotaped them together upside down and just did rolly pulleys. Drew: into these kind of movies now, James: I've seen the video, it's cool. Drew: which is incredible. Yeah, they're all tied up. They're probably like gymnastics and kind of acrobats, but holy shit, does it work? Cause I wondered Kev: Yeah. Well I I Drew: when I saw sorry, sorry. When I saw the trailer and I saw like legs and arms and everything go up, I thought like people were just like swinging in i into the doorway. And I was like, why is there someone's arms and legs and Kev: The the door bit was CG. He couldn't get them to move quick enough. They did do them. They did do it for real. But it Drew: Yeah. Kev: was kind of like awkward because they're hanging upside down and plunking feet. So he had to because they go like a spider. So he had to Drew: Y yeah. Kev: CG that, unfortunately. He couldn't get it right. But that's what's that's the good of a good director. He's doing everything practical until it's limited and then he has to he doesn't do a crap job just 'cause he has to. He he goes right. This is worth it. For a split second for the speed it was worth it. 'Cause that was creepy. Drew: yeah. Yeah. It's creepy, it's a common. And I love the way you said that actually. That spider does because it is like it's got that kind of yeah, that really works. Kev: Yeah. Well I I didn't I didn't I didn't expect a comedy like like James. I I I didn't know Drew: Yeah. Kev: it was gonna I know nothing about Resident Evil. I I've probably watched the first one, but what that's twenty five years ago or something. I don't care about it personally. so I almost didn't watch it, but it was only 'cause Zack Kregger is involved. I was like, Barbarian is amazing, weapons is amazing, I've Drew: Yeah. Kev: got to go and see it. So so I went reluctantly and I assumed it would just be full blown horror, but loads of stuff I wouldn't understand. But I went I went with Kate and I first knew it was a comedy because at the beginning it's just you know the guy with the with with the pack where he goes in the hospital with a heart Drew: Yeah. Kev: or the the body part, we don't know what it is, and then he Drew: Yeah. Kev: goes, We've got another special delivery, double pay if you go tonight. So it's stretch stupid decision. He's got a baby on the way, and he's going driving in the snow, and then he hits a woman, which is a bit creepy. When he finds her, when she's all like mangled up and at the point where most people would either walk away because it's a horror film or get attacked because it's a horror film. He does what, like I said before, what Zach Krager says, what a real person would do. You've hit someone, try and get them in the car and get in the hospital. He's on his way to the hospital anyway. But the picking her up is hilarious. The putting the car hilarious. Yeah. Yeah. And her hand keeps going towards face. And he and he he doesn't he's James: That was where the comedy started though. When she she's in the car and she's doing that, he's like, Just she keeps doing that, and he's like, Stop doing it. Drew: Try to reach. Yeah, yeah. The hand it's that it's that. Kev: like, yeah. Drew: Yeah. Kev: Stop do stop doing that. He doesn't know there's danger. And then the bit that that broke us entirely, like we both of us could not stop laughing at, is when the cop pulls him over for doing erratic driving. And then he sh he goes, Can c can you take her though? And he's like, God. So he puts in the cop car, and as he's moving her to the cop car, he starts going to grab the the guy's face and sh he goes, Yeah, she does that. What the fuck? And then they drive off and she's just like fixated with with Austin Abrams, she she just puts her head on the mirror window. But it's n it's meant to be creepy, but it actually looks like she just loves him and misses him. As it drives away, that broke us. Drew: then you the go go go James: The comp No, you go. Drew: I was just gonna say the tension's genius though because we I think what makes it funny is we're ahead of all the characters. We know it's a zombie film because that's what we're kind of paying tickets for. So we're ahead of every character, huh? Well well well you know yeah monsters but yeah but but Kev: Not don't say zombie. It's not zombie though, is it? Just monsters. Infected monsters. It's yeah. Drew: but you know you know what I mean. We're we're ahead of all the characters and I think that's what makes it funny because when we go, this is clearly dangerous and and he's not quite with it yet. And then when the police person the policeman takes it, then you just see the car just veer off. She's like, well now she's gonna attack the policeman and then so it's Kev: Yeah. But but again, because we didn't know it was comedy, well I didn't anyway, that the bit you know, the bit you mentioned earlier about the ladder, again, the bit we just laughed at there at the beginning with the cop car and the woman. I d we still didn't believe that was meant to be funny. I just think we it tickled our ticket tickle at the funny bone and we sort of Drew: Ticket to pickle. Kev: laughing. I was like, We probably shouldn't be laughing at this. This is not funny 'cause it's creepy. But what but James: This is what I thought. Kev: but when the dog just f just finished that bit, w because the dog in the bar and it's attacking him. And he climbs up into the bar and on the ladder and he lifts the ladder up so the dog can't get him and he chucks him. I was like and I literally went, this has got this is ridiculous now And then because it was funny, I was like, I'm on board again. I thought it was stupid, Drew: Yes. James: When he grabbed that hook and just fell. Kev: but Drew: Yeah. Kev: yeah. I was like, he's got at least he's got a hook. Drew: Yeah, but James: Me thinking Drew: it James: back at it, the cat should have been out the bag well earlier in the film. Like it it's just like little things when I think back now. Like, you know when he shoots his own car and breaks it? And then he's Drew: yeah, that was genius. Kev: Yeah. James: in that scene with Stingray, whatever he's called off karate kids, and he accidentally shoots the gun in the van, doesn't he? And Matey Boy goes, What are you doing? Drew: Yeah. Kev: Paul Walter Hauser. Yeah, yeah. James: You could like shoot the engine. It's just like, yep. Drew: Were done that? Yeah, yeah. Kev: Yeah. And t but yeah, when that dog changed, that was the first thing of actual monsters Drew: Scary. Kev: because the woman, yeah, it's obvious but it she hasn't done anything yet, whereas the dog, that's the first time you go monster. Drew: that that was genius though. That was proper house of horrors 'cause like when it's got his head stuck and he's like, ha ha, he's like, What's wrong with you, man? Why are you so moody? You're like, Whoa. That was Kev: Tease a dog don't tease never mind a monster, don't tease a dog. That's rabid. Zach Zach Kregger again said that that dog on set was terrifying. They to get people out of the way. It was a killing machine. They didn't get they got an attack dog and it it wouldn't stop. They had Drew: Yeah. Kev: to they the the they had to fucking wrangle it. Drew: Well, I w I was gonna say if it felt like a comedy the way it's set up straight off the bat, because when he's got the pa the parcel at the very beginning and he's going around with that green green little kind of medic kit thing. Kev: It's like, can someone sign for this? Drew: Yeah, exactly, and everyone's ignoring him, and it is quite important. And it's not till like when the doctor just nabs it off and he goes, Hey man, you need to sign never mind. And it's like, We're with him, and it's so darkly comic. And Kev: Yeah. Drew: then he goes back to the to the woman at the desk and he's like Well, anybody could sign it. I mean you you could sign it. She's like, No, no, you need to wait for the doctor. He's What? I mean, how long are we gonna be here? Sort of thing. And he's just reading off all this thing, and then he starts trying to like fraudulently do her signature. So all of these things are are kind of dark darkly comic. But what I thought was genius is if you do revisit the film, you'll see that the corridors are all red. So it's like blood straight off the bat, which is really clever. So all Kev: Were they? Drew: all the walls and corridors in the hospital are red. Yeah. Kev: Never picked up on that. Drew: Which is so cool 'cause like the themes, the kind of symbolism of like red and horror and blood and gore, it's no, exact exactly. Maybe Kev: Yeah, 'cause hospitals aren't red, they're usually blue or white, green. Drew: I can bring one up while you guys talk. I'll just bring up a still James: I'm looking forward to watching it again. I won't pay to watch it again. I might, you know, buy it rent it on I think it'll probably go straight to Prime to be fair. but I I'm looking forward to seeing again. The popcorn bucket goes for a fortune online now. The the green bag. Kev: What is James: It's ba it's basic like a lunch box, but the green bag with a bit of blood and resident evil on the end. Kev: what the the the the hospital bag? James: So it's not really a lunch a pa it not really a popcorn bucket, it's more of like a lunch bag or something. 'Cause it's like one of them c cold bags of silver inside. But Kev: That's more practical than some of the other ones. I'd rather that that you can actually put popcorn in. Yeah. James: Yeah, that was it's actually practical, yeah. But the the film itself, one of the things I I don't know why I twigged. It didn't twig earlier, like even scenes where like you know he goes to get that woman who you think's gonna be like a main character 'cause she's like shooting everyone and then she's dead immediately. And then he turns Kev: Yeah. James: around and matey boy's just being on the on the car door like that. And you're like, Well, he's dead now as well. The little girl shit Kev: And that that woman James: me up as well. Drew: I don't know if you see that. Yeah Kev: that woman's it's very white. the floor is red. Drew: yeah, the floor just looks like blood. See that? Yeah. Kev: that's very the shining. so yeah, that that woman you mentioned, James, that that that's kind of like the special agent, the the hard the hard woman that goes around shooting people. From Carly Reese. Yeah, that's what we're gonna say. From True Detective. Drew: she's amazing, yeah. She's from True Detective, season four. Yeah. James: 'Cause she shows up like a proper Resident Evil character, doesn't she? And you're like, Okay, well she's gonna be the one that joins him and then no she dies. She'll be okay, well Stingray will be the one that joins him then he dies. It's like for fuck's sake. Drew: I was really hoping but I was I was really hoping that she wasn't gonna die though 'cause she was so badass. I thought she was gonna get him to the hospital though. Kev: But that's what's good. Yeah. That's why it's good. If she did that, that's a normal film. What's good is that the Drew: Fair. Kev: tough guy got killed and you weren't expecting it. That's what's great. Drew: Fair. Kev: And Paul Walterhauser, his name in the film is Paul. Just just say they couldn't think of a better name. But Drew: Haha, nice. But but it but but again, this is what they were saying. As soon as you know he's on the cast list, you know you're in Funnyville. That guy's a genius. Kev: Yeah, and again we expected more from him and he he doesn't last very long either. But with Paul Walterhauser, what I liked was it's clearly his fault. And Austin Abrams goes, Drew: yeah, that all the shit's got down. Kev: Wait, so so you've you you messed up and he's like, Well, it's you know, it's not about that, you know, we're we're a team and as soon as it's no he's no longer a Drew: Yeah. Kev: team, it's Yeah. James: Is that really easy to drop these things, like you know, accidents can happen. Kev: Like Drew: Yeah, yeah. Kev: Sounds important. Maybe you shouldn't drop important things. He's like, you know, things Drew: Yeah. Kev: happen, you know? He's just an absolute idiot. So it was funny and Drew: She is Kev: it was pretty full on when he when he when he escapes that bit where he's getting teased. Yeah, she gets killed. He gets teased to go in further, and he goes, Nope. Walks back, he's up, yeah, she's dead, or whatever. Then Paul Waterhouser gets attacked by the that massive thing and then chases him through the streets, which brings up one of the best scenes in the film, which is two shots. Of him running down the street with those people on top of the building just falling. Drew: Monster kind of zombie monsters falling off. James: Mass wicket that is. Such Kev: And and I'm sh James: a cool scene. Kev: yeah, I'm sure you've read about it. It he he did that for real. There's no effects there. They filled Drew: Yeah. Kev: a hundred and fifty pound body bags full of blood and threw them off the roof at him. He the he he would have been killed if it hit him square on. Drew: Jesus. Kev: Genuinely. They practiced it many times and they're dropping them on specific locations. And the bit when he gets to the end and he jumps over the hood of the car, that body bag landed too close and it splashed on his face. And that's when the camera flips to him running at the camera and he goes, It was so perfect. We did the double camera and it hit at the perfect time where we caught the face splash as it turned around. But he had to keep going. He couldn't stop. If he stopped or paused or moved or tried to dodge one, he would hit another one. So it was straight or problems. So it's brave. Drew: See, this is this is the thing. I I was just thinking of Wolf. I saw a clip of Wolf the other day, right? The the one with George Clooney and Brad Pitt. yeah, Wolf, sorry, thank you. No, yeah, fair, fair, but I'm saying he's in it though. He's in it, fucking running Kev: Wolves which is rubbish, but yeah, Austin Abram's funny innit. Yeah, he's the kidnapped kid. Drew: in his pants, and he just jumps over a a slow-mo of a car. And I'm thinking, people, casting directors and directors are watching Abraham just run in his pants. run as a heron addict, run constantly. And they're like, this guy's great at running. He's great at comic timing. He's so Kev: Yeah. Drew: watchable. He's so charismatic that his performance c is clearly what keeps you it he ho he carries this whole movie on his shoulders pretty much. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. He's Kev: He runs a lot on weapons as well. Yeah. James: He's obviously got a lot of trust from directors because that film was really a one man show, wasn't it, at the end of the day? Drew: Yeah. James: And so's Wailful. Drew: Wales yeah, man. He's doing Kev: My God. He's not running in that one, that's for sure. James: No, but they've obviously Drew: swimming. James: got a lot of trust in him that they're putting him in one man shows. When he's a relatively unknown actor, he's no nowhere near a household name. Kev: Exactly. But he will be hu I and he's I think he's big for cinephiles like us, but I think in two to three years he will be household. And he he does not quite method acting, but you know, like like we all know in weapons he was he was a drug addict and he was scrawny. He said he put on weight Drew: Yeah, he l lost a lot of weight. Kev: yeah, he said he put on weight for Resident Evil. I mean he wasn't exactly fat, he just wasn't toned. He just put on a bit of podge and a bit of neck. Drew: Yeah. He looked cool though with his with his earring and just he looked a bit quite retro and just got the job done. Let's go home, sort of vibe. James: Did you talk about Easter eggs? That's why I've got this on front of mind. Now you probably know about this, and I imagine more will come out, but I don't know if it's true or not, but you know when he sat with like no shirt on and the guy's like yeah, like crying guy with no shirt, and he's looking at the picture of the two the f two point four children on the sticker. Cause you're like in the moment thinking I think of family and that. Then someone pointing out that's his kill count. Drew: Yeah. Yeah. Jas. Yeah, I was gonna say ja Kev: Yeah. It's a genius. I wouldn't have known that if I didn't see it online. There's no way I'd have worked that out. Drew: Jazz shared that as well. Church of Church of Cinema. He Kev: That's so it's so clever because yeah, the dog first, baby the baby monster later, the woman at the beginning, and Drew: Yeah. Yeah. Kev: then the yeah, the girl. Drew: But the kid the kid to be fair is not a baby kid. It's a girl that's trapped in a toilet and she's not Hmm Kev: Don't be pedantic. It's an infant. James: It does kill a baby though. Drew: Fair. No, he doesn't Kev: Yeah, there's a baby. Yeah, remember the baby? Drew: yeah, but that's way, way later on though. That's in the hospital stuff, isn't it? James: In the maternity ward. Yeah, but still it's still it's h foreseeing his future, maybe. In just the way that he didn't think. Drew: Yeah, well that's what see, okay. Now, James, now you've hit the nail on the head, because I was mentioning in a in a Kev: You've hit the baby on the head. Drew: in a comment saying that it was a premonition of what was to come, apart from obviously not having four or five scientists on the side of the car. So ba basically that would have been Kev: That'd be a weird sticker. Drew: a weird sticker. Family and scientists, you're like, Are you into your science when you go for a drive? James: But when you think Kev: The the that James: about it though, that film, every character that is on screen with you know, negate the doctors that don't do anything, is a fucking idiot. You think he's an idiot, like from dayway, he's like bumbling around with the shotgun cartridges. The woman, okay, she's not really a part, the copper, bitch stupid just to like casually let that woman ride up front with him, let's be honest. Yeah. Then Kev: Yeah, why it's not in the back is a yeah. James: you've got the si the woman with the gun. Was an idiot because she killed them things, was like, what's in here? Mate Boy who started the whole thing was clearly an idiot. And then the scientists were fucking d all fingers upon mental scientists and a lab. They're all like fingers on plus or don't Kev: Yeah, just stab me, just stab, just inject me. No just James: let him in the lab. They've locked down Drew: Yeah. James: this whole fucking lab and just let this guy come in with no clearance, like, yeah, come along. He looks a mess. Kev: Yeah. It should be open door, give it and then when you're and then close them out. Drew: It that James: He's got no shoes Drew: bit, right? James: on. Drew: That bit reminded me of Dust till Dawn. You know, you know when he gets you know when sex beast gets bitten and he sees his hand, it goes, and he goes, You alright? And James: Sex machine. Drew: he's like, Yeah. It's like a proper like little homage to that. And I was like, that is James: Yeah, but if Drew: absolute genius when his hand goes, you're like, what? Kev: James, your recording has stopped due to incoming call. You back? Drew: One moment, please call her. Kev: James is very popular. He's getting a phone call currently. Drew: Who Kev: pause from him. Doot doo doo doo doo. he's gone. It might be his his kid. Give him a quick call. That Drew: Fair reason. Kev: but the what was it with that? I did think everything like all the characters and stuff, it's just madness. Like I didn't I are they real to the game? Like that the guy that vomits acid out of the elevator. Drew: That's a really good question. I I heard rumors that I think there is characters like that. maybe a biohazard. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. But but Kev: It's too specific to be like, I'm just gonna have a vomiting acid, Fat Man. Too specific. It's gotta be in the game. Drew: but going on with that bit, that that dude downstairs with the big stomach that looks like he's out of dune. That was weird. Yeah. But then he explodes Kev: Yeah. What was that about? Just a big rat man. Drew: like I didn't expect that. I jumped, bro. Like that bit really made me gasp when he goes. Kev: Apparently rats are a big thing in Resident Evil. I d I don't know, but Drew: Yeah. I don't know actually. I don't know if there if there were, but yeah, there's a shit Kev: 'cause what Drew: ton of rats running at you and that was pretty But that that's what I loved about Go Kev: Yeah. W was that Craig or was sorry, Carol. Drew: go I was gonna say that's what I love about this film that ev obviously even though it's being directed and it's being orchestrated, it all feels so real in every circumstance that the character's up against because I can't remember what happens. I think he's getting chased and he goes through the fences and it gets blocked and then he can't go back. And he gets trapped and he he can't I think he loses something in the back and he has to go down that that sewer manhole because there's no other way. Kev: Yeah. It's like it's like yeah, it's like i i they're not bad choices like a normal one. It is literally that or death. It's a bug bad choice, but staying is bad choice, so it's the lesser two evils. Drew: Forced. Yeah, yeah. But again, dude, it's very clever because it's very in fitting with the game. Like sometimes when you take a choice, something happens or like a part of the building will fall down and like, shit, I can't go back. So it's it's it's very what people were saying is it's the most it's the it's it's the most like a computer game without having any connection to any of the computer games. Even in the way it's shot. Kev: We didn't even mention the the the the point and shoot bit, especially Drew: Yeah! Kev: the bit in the R V and that that that Van Lorrie you know, the American big R V van. When Drew: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Kev: when it is he uses his camera torch, his mobile phone torch and it's holding the shotgun and we're seeing like a computer game and it's bad lighting. It's not lighting that a ca like a film would do. It is literally Drew: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, his POV. Yeah. Yeah. Kev: all you can see is the little bit the camera's pointing at, which adds terror to it. Like and as James Drew: Yeah. That bit felt that bit felt well like twenty eight days later though, that that under ca that under bridge bit with all the p crashed cars and Kev: Yeah. mate, that was that James James has just returned. We're just mentioning about that R V scene like you mentioned earlier, James: wicked. Kev: when the little footsteps pop out at the beginning that you jump out your skin 'cause you think something else. But when he is looking in there is there's there's a Easter egg in there. It's either a a plant that's in the game or something. Drew: Yeah, yeah. Plants. Yeah, yeah. Kev: is that for health or something in the game, or what's that for? Drew: That's correct. And you can mix the plants to make better health choices. Like you've got red plants, green plants and you can mix them and yeah. Kev: Yeah. But that that bit where it is the point of view like a computer game that's badly lit and in the R V, that that was probably the scariest bit in the film because you expect something to pop out every corner and it doesn't, and then you hear the banging and you expect something else. And then the girl, the little girl, you go, I'm completely disarmed. fuck, I shouldn't be. Is very good at doing that. Drew: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Misdirection. Very good misdirection James: you Drew: throughout. Yeah. Kev: But but you didn't even need to have a scare. Him walking into that tunnel and even getting out of the R V and continuing through the tunnel was scary 'cause even though nothing happened, you didn't know nothing was gonna happen. It was the dread. Drew: But even that, e even that again, like the thing behind him is so he has to move forward through he can't go back because Kev: Yeah. Drew: he has to go back through that RV. There's no other way. I was just saying, James, that reminds me of the game. You know, when you take a choice and then something happens so you can't return back, you can't go back sometimes James: Yeah. Drew: with certain certain choices. But then even when he blasts the kid with the shotgun, that that like headshot, like proper like the game, like just like pfft. Kev: Isn't it like an eyeball inside a mouth or something mental? It it it James: weird like that it's over very quickly isn't it Kev: it's like if Beetlejuice was was that was directed by like Stephen King or something. It was like it was I didn't expect that. 'Cause the dog opens its mouth and weird shit happens, but when the kid did Drew: Yeah, tentacles. Kev: it, it was even more mental. But Drew: Yeah. James: There was Kev: then you James: some Beetlejuice Ghostbustiesque monsters like the vomit monster. Drew: Well we were saying, is that in the game? Is that in the game, James? Kev: Yes. Yeah. Do you know if that's in the game? James: know and also the big fat Drew: Vomit monsters. James: bloke how do you get down in that sewer? Kev: Yeah. Unless he's literally built Drew: Yeah, I was Kev: of the rats. Drew: Yeah. Maybe he was looking for his phone or something and he got lost. Kev: But then again, y you saw how quick you saw how quick the main character grew. He was just normal human and he just went voom voom voom. Drew: True. Kev: Super big. James: Yeah. Kev: so the scene that you were mentioning before as well, James, with the stickers and the car, the kill count, again, it's it the film is full it takes you down journeys and misdirects constantly and you don't know you're being had until you've had because it started to be emotional because he looked at the stickers and went 'cause he doesn't want that kid or he's reluctant to have the kid that his wife's pregnant with and he Drew: Mm. Kev: sends the the family sticker and he leaves her a voicemail saying, I'm sorry, I should have said we should have it straight away. I do want a kid with you. that is it. James: He doesn't even leave her a voicemail, records it on his phone and she never gets it. Kev: Well, yeah, yeah, so that if he dies they can find him type thing. But but then the C C T V camera speaks and goes, Hello he's like 'cause he's topless. He's like he like covers himself. He covers his nipples. Drew: That that again is darkly comic 'cause yeah, he's proper emotional 'cause he's just seen that he's been bitten, right? And he's starting to turn. Kev: Yeah. Drew: And he kinda gives a heartfelt performance onto his phone to his missus and then they're like, Hey dude, you need to get up or whatever, like Kev: Yeah, and he's because he's topless. He's just tries to hide himself because he's he's embarrassed. He's not even trying to hide his bite, he's just trying to hide himself. Yeah. Drew: Don't look at me, I'm shy. James: It's when they're like, don't take the elevator, it's compromise. He goes up with what, four flights of steps and then goes, fuck it, and just gets in. Drew: Yeah. Kev: Yeah. He's Drew: Yeah. Kev: he's like, How far up are you? Twenty eight floors. He's like, Well, actually Drew: Yeah. Kev: it's it's twenty four floors, then it's the sky bridge across, then it's another four floors up. He's like, Really? And twenty eight doesn't sound much. In a film they would normally go like two hundred but when you see twenty eight, that's a lot still. Drew: Yeah, that is a lot. And w and now everything he's been through, man, the poor guy's absolutely knackered. And he's just trying to get this parcel from A to B. Kev: Yeah. But but the those acrobat people that are chasing him in the elevator and he uses the vomit guy to help him, that's who's back Drew: yeah. Kev: at the end that he uses all the all the baby people to fall on him and stuff like that. Drew: yeah. Well that's what I love though. You know when they're all building up, like that whole horde of like zombie monsters or whatever we want to call them is coming and Kev: Yeah. Drew: there's and there's that big kind of like he put that stick across the across the doors and it's the one time where he shoots correctly and he's like Kev: We haven't talked about it yet. J J what James wanted to say about which is one of the funniest moments in the film. There's so many fucking funny bits. Is how bad like he's an American and he can't shoot a gun. And he's trying to shoot padlocks. And even when he hits them, they just bounce off because that's what would happen. Drew: Yeah, he's like, Come on, baby. He's like, Come on, baby, come on. Kev: so good. But but that was the annoying at the very beginning when he gets that when he steals that car from the first house and tries to drive away. It's a farmhouse. There's one gate you'd it's with a padlock. He fucks up shooting it. Just drive through the wooden fence. Why is he going at the big metal gate with a Drew: yeah. Kev: padlock? It it drove me insane. I was like I Drew: I didn't even I didn't even think of that. Kev: was like, this is James: That's we thought was funny about it. Kev: Yeah, it was ridiculous. Drew: But that's typical but that is typical. Like when people have done that in games in Grand Theft Or or whatever it is go, I'm just gonna drive through the wall and you get trapped and then like you have to get out of your vehicle and you've lost your vehicle because like brilliant. That was a bad choice. Kev: Yeah. And we and we didn't even say in that house was one of the scariest jump scares of the entire film when that woman is running downstairs and he's trying to get the r gun ready and there's another man in the house. Another woman in Drew: yeah yeah yeah Yeah yeah. Kev: the house. So it's not even the woman that's coming up, it's a different one. Fucking Drew: Yeah, yeah, fuck. James: It comes out the cupboard, doesn't it? Kev: Absolutely terrifying that bit Drew: Yeah. Kev: like again, you're you're in comedy mode 'cause you can see the woman running. That's funny. bit scarier 'cause there's running around and then You didn't expect that 'cause you can still hear her downstairs. So you don't expect that other Drew: Yeah, but y you Kev: one. Drew: you can hear her scrambling up the stairs while he's trying to put in the shotgun shells. It it the tension is Kev: Yeah. Drew: like you can cut the air, it's so, so fucking and isn't the phone ringing as well, which makes it adds another element. The phone's ringing. He's trying to get Kev: Yeah. He wants to pick up the phone for his girlfriend, yeah. James: Yeah. Drew: the fucking it's the worst time to Call me back. You know, it's like I've got a fucking Kev: And she's like, Well, if you don't wanna pick up, I guess it can't be that important. She's like, fuck off Try not to die. God's sake. but Drew: Yeah. Yeah. I try to blast monsters. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So good. So good. Kev: yeah the James: Padlock scene though, when he's at the car park and you see him shoot from point blank range and it pans out and there's a hole in the wall next to it. Drew: Yeah. And he says, I'm so bad at this. But then you know what he says the the Kev: Okay, he g he g he does g he go he literally says, I'm so bad at guns which is a weird Drew: Yeah. And he goes Kev: phrase. Drew: and he goes the he goes the the in joke is when he sees a padlock he goes, What is it with all these locks? Which is like what we think when we're in games and go, Man, what is it with all these games? But to be fair, with Resident Evil, it's more random than that. It it's like I found this like triangle piece of wood that I need to slot into something and twist six times. So they didn't go fully into it 'cause it would have been so weird to have stuff like that. Do you know what mean? Kev: Yeah. Yeah, the obstacles made made kind of sense. And look, the the the end bit in the I I really liked the ending. Like I mean, we've spoiled the entire film all the way through this conversation, but it it it's at the beginning. Drew: yeah, you did say spoiler review. You said it at the beginning, right? Yeah, of course. Kev: It'll be at the beginning probably. But it's we're really gonna spoil it now because that that ending was I thought it was brilliant because it was stupid and frustrating, but the James: . Kev: deaths of the scientists, I thought a couple of them might live. Drew: Mm. Kev: But no, that guy who's behind the desk, who's like the guy from Drew: Severance. Kev: Severance. What's his name again? His name is Zach got Drew: Something. Kev: it here. Zach Cherry. And h his n you think he's gonna be the one that's okay 'cause he's the biggest coward and everyone else get killed and you the coward lives. And he just gets squashed. That I did not expect at all. That desk bit. Drew: But I loved again, they they it it felt a little bit backrooms, because you know when they set off the the fire extinguishers and goes there's a lot of films do that now and you've got all the mist and you can't see the danger, then something comes out and just grabs a character and they go, Wow! So it Kev: Yeah. Drew: proper had that like tension. But it was like annoying. It was like, dude, just give the guy the antidote. That's what I think's heartbreaking, because the protagonist becomes the antagonist because of their negligence. Kev: Yeah. Drew: And it's like he's like, dude, come on man, just inject a brother out here, you know? Kev: And once it started kicking in, the speed of his transformation was insane. And the monster he turned into was super cool because it's just like a random amalgamation of the people he's just been ki the scientists he's killed. But it's also Drew: Yeah. Kev: the big stomach teeth thing. Like, what the Drew: Yeah. Kev: fuck was that? Drew: Yeah, that reminded me of Blade though, because Deacon Frost James: yeah, pal. Drew: Deacon Frost when he becomes the blood god, he turns into that. Like James: And that pearl monster was like the big guy. Drew: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. James: Do you reckon the locks were kind of like to signify like the next level? Because they always came after like a big event. So do Kev: Hmm. James: reckon that the next level in Drew: Like James: the game, like the first lock was after he got out the house. The other lock was after Kev: To get to the next scene. To get the next thing, yeah. Drew: Yeah. James: he'd run through that whole thing to get to the indoor building. So the first lock got him to Kev: Yeah. James: Raccoon City out the house. And then the next lock got him in the building. I'm sure there's another one as well somewhere, but I can't remember where. Drew: Yeah, but the irony is there's a lock to get back out of that building, then there's a lock at the hospital with the the the shutter door into the car park. Yeah. James: Yeah, and you thought that's the next level you go in and then... Kev: Yeah. Drew: And then he literally goes up because he's going up literally the levels to get to the next which is the the hospital level. Kev: And then like you said, he sh he shoots the wooden broom to let the hordes out, which which is the final bit to get Drew: Yeah. Yeah, that takes out spinny dance monster. Kev: to the the boss level, which is the scientists, I guess. Once he's got Drew: Yeah yeah. Kev: that, it's got a clear run to the scientists. That's Jesus thought. I like that, James. Drew: And that's what I like, 'cause again, James, with with with with the with the games, it is like that, isn't it? Because especially the latest Resident Evil, it it it pretty much ends in the hospital. So it's like it really has got that kind of like level build up and feels realistic in in James: I said, when it finished, I was like, because I didn't really know what I'd watched. was like, was that kind of like a standalone one and done? But then I realized that that monster now that he'd become could become the catalyst for the next movie. He's the main bad guy. And then the SWAT lot come in, your usual suspects like the guard, coast guard, not guard, royal guard, whatever they call come in. So they could make a sequel or a prequel, which could be even better. Kev: I d I don't think he'll touch that. I think he's a one and done type guy, but I like the fact that it is open ended. James: Yeah, well it works alone. It works, it sounds like a movie. Drew: I also think he doesn't need it. I d I I I think also if you if you look at the stats, ironically, this is the best Resident Evil without being connected to any of the franchise to a degree, without having any of the main characters James: Well, all the other ones were traditionally bad, weren't they? Drew: Yeah. Apart from Kev: Yeah. Drew: the fur I thought the first one with Milia Yokovic was was was pretty good. The first one was quite exciting. James: It's okay, but it's a bit of a cheesy action Kev: Maybe because it was unique at the time. James: movie. Drew: Yeah, that that's what no, th Kev hit the nail on the head there. That is exactly that's it, because it was the first time. Kev: But to give you some stats, the first weekend of Resident Evil it did bigger in the box office than the first Resident Evil did in its entire run. it's currently at just over two hundred million box office. Drew: Wow. Kev: It was seventy-five to make. And as we know, horrors don't always make huge budgets, especially seventy-five million's fairly big budget. You know, backrooms Drew: Yeah. Kev: is what, twenty million and as we said, obsession was like Drew: backwards was ten million. Kev: Ten million, sorry. And yeah, obsession was like pennies. But yeah, and as I said, Zach Craig was not doesn't really well, he's only done three films, so we can't really say he doesn't make sequels, but he's doing a sort of sequel with weapons. He's doing GLADIS. Drew: yes, of course, of course. Wow. Kev: The next film is Gladys, just about her. So I don't know if it's an origin story or I don't I don't know anything about it, but that's interesting. He's got that James: I think. Kev: and The Flood, which is a new film with Jennifer Lawrence, which is apparently got it's set in space. Apparently it's like 2001 Space Odyssey and Horror. James: She loves being in space, doesn't she? Drew: But but that's kind of genius because he's just created his own franchise though, which is really smart of Zach. Cause he created Weapons, which isn't based on a book or a novel or anything from what I gather. I think he created that that film. And now he's doing a character from his own film. Kev: Yeah. It she was so well she won the Oscar. What when the horror people win Oscar? So Drew: Which is which is genius. Well yeah, I mean it but she's one of the most fascinating characters. But it but again, this has been the year of like obsession and possession over people, right? So even like Kev: Yeah. Drew: obsession, you snap the stick. There was a lot of snapping of sticks and controlling people. Kev: yeah. And just to confirm Zach Crager did direct and did write weapons. It's all him. Drew: Yeah, weapons. Yeah. So that's what I mean. What's James: I. Drew: really clever is he's creating a franchise of his own world films, which is genius. Kev: B. James: I can see this Resident Evil film getting a bit of a cult following. And I think if they play it right, cause I am one of the believers that physical media is going to make a return. I think if they played it right with special edition Blu-rays, like maybe a Blu-ray set where it's in the green bag with the Blu-ray, a little model of the monster, and then maybe like, I don't know, fill in the back, whatever other statue you want to do and have special editions. I reckon people would buy them. Just have a little Drew: Dude that James: statue and the Blu-ray. Drew: dude, that reminds me, great, great shout. Easter eggs was the typewriter when the door opens and they even slowed down as the door opened, like in the game, and you've got the typewriter, which is how you save your progress. James: There's also something about in the house where the shotgun is in a game as well somewhere else. Drew: yeah, it's on the wall. It's on the wall in the first Resident Evil. Kev: and the shells in the in the in the drawer are the same brand of shells in the game. And and there was a Drew: Yeah, and they're the same colour as well. Yeah. Kev: health, there was a medipack somewhere, I don't think it was touched, but in the background somewhere. Drew: Yeah. Yeah, there's loads of little kind of nuances that James: I reckon if you watched it again now, like just for like looking out for stuff, you'd find so much more. Drew: Yeah. I I think it's the ki the type of film that whenever that's on, if that does come straight to prime and is part of the prime selection, then I'm just watching that again, man. Do you know what I mean? That is so entertaining for what, ninety minutes, it felt like? James: I'll watch it the Kev: what James: minute it comes on. Kev: that was our feedback when me and Kate watched it. Well it ended and we're like, What? I I thought it was halfway through. I thought I was like I could do another hour easily. And Drew: Yeah, yeah, yes, yes. Kev: le leaving you on the more sometimes is better than dragging it out. I I I watched Drew: Mic drop one hundred percent. One hundred. James: definitely left open if he did want to re-explore it, you know. Kev: Yeah, there's flexibility there, but I I loved as well that the there was no real resolution. I I small deviation for for this point. I watched the film the other night, it's just come out on Prime, which is called crap, what's it called? Don't die have fun. Do you know that one? Good luck, Drew: yeah, yeah, I've seen that. Yeah. Good luck. Have fun. Don't die. Kev: have fun, don't die. Now that was a painful watch. I enjoyed it, but it was far too long. Drew: It's about phones. It's about phones. Kev: It was it was it was brilliant. I was like, this isn't about the future, this is literally now. Like, Drew: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Kev: but it was too long. I didn't need the backstory of every character. It needed to be shorter and sharper. And it was a good film and a good idea. And I was left annoyed because it was dragging on this film. Drew: Yeah, it's too many flashbacks. James: thing inside. Kev: This film was a hundred miles an hour, no breaks. The only break was when he sat down to do that voice note and it was broken with comedy and then straight back into action. Perfect. Drew: Yeah. Yeah. Kev: Probably halfway through. Drew: actually James: Thing is though, what's very much filmed, like, Drew: one god. James: if you think of the games, how the games play out, maybe not so much Kev, but if you notice how there's always a calm after every chaos, almost like a cut scene in a game. So you have that chaotic control, like you're walking around the hospital doing your thing, and then like you get your package and then, you know, there's a bit of a cut scene with the girl talking to you on the phone. That phone, that conversation would be a cut scene in the game. You'd just be sat there. Then you'd hit the woman, you'd Drew: Yeah, story mode. James: get control of the game again. Drew: Yeah. James: go along cut scene when the copper comes up to you Drew: Yeah. James: and then cut scene when he crashes, then go and explore, explore the house. Then you'd get the cut scene where she's running in front of you and then you'd run around in that and then you'd get the cut scene of the two heads doing that. So it's almost like a cut scene after every major, so you could probably look at most movies and do that, but if that's what he was going for, it kind of breaks it up to bits where he's almost not in that scene, is he? It's a cut scene where he's not in it. Because when all them things happen, you don't see him, you see it from his perspective, like you would in a cut scene, like first person. Whereas when you're controlling Kev: Yeah. James: the character, it's third person and he's in it. Drew: Yeah. But even the way they shoot certain bits, it feels like, say he gets the gun and he's outside, it's like the camera pans and goes over his shoulder and behind him and then he's holding it like that and it feels like a proper shot from a game. Kev: Yeah, we're still doing games, yeah. Drew: There's moments where if I paused it, it could be like like insert credit well not insert credit 'cause not in an arcade, but like the idea of like pause, game is paused, like get ready to play. But Kev: But for someone who doesn't play computer games, it wasn't I got it because I w I knew about it, but it wasn't obvious to me. When I think back of it, there was loads of moments like that. But I like the fact that it wasn't over the top, wasn't like Doom or whatever. Drew: Yeah, it wasn't forced down your throat, which is genius. Yeah. James: What you said about that panning over his shoulder and putting him into the gun, exactly, that cut scene's in every shooting game. You'll see him from that person's Kev: Yeah. James: perspective and then you'll see Drew: That's what I'm saying. James: him from there. Now it's like, now aim the fire. Kev: It's like start it's like there he is, start game as you go. Anyway, guys, we should wrap up unless you've got any last points to state. Drew: Yeah, that's what I mean. That's why Yeah. Yeah, one hundred percent. Well no, I was just gonna say one one thing about what he could do with this world, just jumping off quickly what James said, is if he did what he did with weapons, but in Raccoon City, that's how he turns this into a franchise. So you've got different perspectives, so Kev: Just a different character in there. Drew: a different character, but at one point you might see Abraham's character running by. Yeah. Or legging it. Kev: Walking past the background. Yeah. James: You could do it based on the guy from Karate Kid, he's a good enough actor. Kev: He's dead. James: Yeah, but you did a prequel, a previous, and you showed Drew: no, but previously, yeah, yeah. Equal. Yeah. Kev: him dropping it. James: him actually spilling it, and maybe the film ended with them meeting matey boy. Like, the film ended Drew: Yeah. James: with them pulling up and he's like, and then it just cuts. Drew: Get in. Yeah. Kev: Yeah, because there's so many monsters that have James: And then you can choose which way you watch the movie. Kev: been created within the last day or two days 'cause it w it goes so quick. But yeah, w what what James: It would be cool though if they did that and ended with the first fills. If you wanted to, you could watch them reversed. Kev: Yeah, 'cause the he di like you said, he did that kind of in weapons a little bit, 'cause he repeated the story four times, but not in a boring way, 'cause none of overlapped except at one point Drew: Yeah. It's genius. It was genius. Kev: you saw in the background another scene happening. You're like, What the what you wouldn't have known. It's so subtle. so Drew: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So good. So good. Kev: how many whales are we given this one out of five? James: 4.5 Drew: Yeah. Kev: I'm four five. I'm four five. James: Only because, only because my Five Out Of Fives are Brand New Day and Project Hail Mary and as much as I enjoyed this movie, it was not one of them. Kev: I yeah, I I mean I couldn't compare it to them 'cause it's a completely different genre and different feeling, but I I'm giving it I'm giving it James: I wouldn't give it like top marks because there were things that could have been better. Kev: top marks for enjoyment. But James: yeah, for fun, five out of five. Kev: but everything about it I can't I can't take anything off because cinematography was perfect, acting was perfect, action was perfect. The the comedy Drew: Music was perfect. Kev: and the horror and the gore and the yeah, the music, I can't f I can't Five seems high for a horror, especially l one like this, especially one called Resident Evil, but perfect for me. Drew: Th the but the for me though there was there was a moment where I I did get taken out of it and I think that's why I I put it down a mark just because it I know obviously this sounds ridiculous like to sustain your disbelief because obviously it's based on a computer game, it's all imaginary, blah blah blah. But there's one point Kev: That bit in Resident Evil wasn't realistic enough. Drew: Yeah, no, no, yeah, exactly. I sound like some of those other assholes out there. No, I I Kev: He sneezed at an inappropriate moment when there was a monster. Wait, there's a fucking monster. Drew: just mean that it it started to feel a little bit too much like a pantomime when they were inside that that car. And some of the stuff they were saying just felt so what's the word? Where it's explaining. Kev: The the negative feedback I only negative feedback I've heard about is Paul Walter taking it out. Drew: But but I mean the explatory I mean the expletatory nature of it was so over the top that it just it it really took me out of it. Yeah. Exactly. That's what I mean. Kev: Yeah, yeah, the exposition wasn't necessary. We knew shit fucked up and there was a thing. Yeah. Drew: I think it was overly explained and his character said some really ridiculous things that was like, I know characters are dumb, but Kev: But again, you said, you you get yeah, but you get a comedy actor in, you let him cook for a few minutes, I guess. Otherwise he was in the film for what, two minutes in total probably. James: Okay. Okay. Drew: yeah, yeah, yeah, of course. Of course. But but but no but I'm saying it was it wasn't him 'cause he's fantastic. I'm saying it was more in the script and that Kev: Yeah. Drew: could have been whittled down, but I get it. He's a bigger actor, give him more to do and more to say, but it just felt like he was saying for the sake of saying it, so it wasn't yeah. James: I will say that in world at the moment is very much horror saturated for whatever reason. There's horror movie after horror movie. So I'm glad Kev: Doing well. James: it wasn't too serious. And I don't know if you guys have seen it, but I saw a teaser trailer for the Blair Witch remake coming next September. Kev: I've only seen the teaser where it's literally just the stick floating that's it. James: Not people pulling through the ground, walking around the camera. So Kev: Not saying that. James: I think it's a direct remake, just called Blair Witch. And that's next September. the trailer's pretty creepy. Shows someone getting dragged through the forest and stuff. Kev: I'm interested. Yeah. They can't do that by halves. That's gotta be fucking amazing to even touch the sides. James: Well, to do a teaser trailer a year before the film even comes out is a bold move, I think. But I'm Drew: It's bold. That's bold. Kev: Yeah. Well James: still waiting for bloody Street Fighter. Drew: That's this month I think. Twenty third. Twenty third. It's twenty third, I think. Kev: That's n yeah, it's n this this month. I've booked a ticket. I've booked a ticket already. Here James: Thanks, fuck. How long's that been? Kev: we go. If I go into my wallet, James: Have you seen the popcorn bucket? Kev: Street Fighter on the nineteenth, booked. Yeah, Guile's head hair haircut. He's haircut. James: Have you seen the popcorn bucket? It's Giles' hair. Drew: I do I can all right, that's awesome. James: I'm positive I'm gonna throw a fireball coming out of Rio. Which is funny Drew: Yeah. James: because Cody Rhodes has got a lisp. A guy who plays him. I'm positive. I think it's gonna be amazing fun. Drew: Right, right. Kev: I think it looks brilliant. I think it looks brilliant. Anyway, we're terrible at finishing we're terrible at finishing a podcast. Let's Drew: Yeah, we need to finish we need to finish this. Kev: stop and start the new one. We can start with a little Rambo at the beginning. Anyway, we hundred percent recommend Resident Evil. Go watch it. Still Drew: One hundred. Kev: in the cinema. Drew: Enjoy. Kev: boy. Drew: Four
