Alycia: Okay, I gotta say to kick us off here that men, this episode is not even for you. Ladies, this episode is for you and me and for us to concoct what is functionally a master plan to get the men out of the spot that they find themselves in right now. I'm Alycia. Welcome back. I would like to do a new topic every week, but it's kind of like some of these themes are recurring, right? So I did an episode, I don't know how long ago at this point, a few weeks, on sports betting, sports betting markets and the rise of those, the history of those in America. And we had NFL season went live, right? September 9th or whatever that was. So now NFL season is in full swing. And with that, as you can imagine, all of these sports betting platforms or They like to call themselves prediction markets, okay? The Cal Shees Polymarket, they're prediction markets. they're all live too. And in the first week of the season being open, you had 14 billion dollars in bets placed. 14 billion dollars, right, in bets placed on sports now that NFL season is is in full swing. And that number was wild to me. So I figured I would just make another episode to tell y'all what I think about this and how I think we can fix it, which is why this is for. The ladies. This is not even for the men. Now, I want to start out and say that women, I think largely like most of the people who are betting on sports, it's majority men, vast majority men, like 80%, 90% maybe, but like it's it's vast majority men. they have made inroads with like the the platforms have made progress with women on their platforms. I don't know what women would be possibly betting on because that's not like that's not like us, that's not something that we tend to. Do really? That's not like female activity, that's male activity. And so this episode, actually, heads up, is gonna be fairly gendered. Okay. Cause I'm talking about women and men. If you're one of those people that think that there's not two genders and there's more genders, I don't know what to tell you because I'm talking about women, I'm talking about men, nothing in between. Okay. So what's what's happened here is that women, I think we're at a point where we don't think that we have a dog in this fight because we don't care about sports betting. Right? Me, I I don't care about sports betting. I didn't even know the platforms, what they were called until this episode. Okay. So there's polymarket. There's Calchi. There's DraftKings and then there's FanDuel. As I un as I understand it. I think there's more than that. But those are the ones that I know off the top of my head. And you had r some really big names recently. So LeBron, he partnered with Calchi. He partnered with Polymarket. I don't really know which one. One of the two. He partnered with them for like a fifteen million dollar contract to promote what's happening now, right? The sports betting part of their platform. You had Sydney Sweeney, who I've actually never seen. I d I think she's an actress. I don't know. Maybe she's A singer, songwriter, I don't know. She's famous and apparently she's hot. Guys like her. So she partnered with one of the platforms. you have Drake who has partnered with whatever the I feel like it starts with an S, but Drake has a huge partnership, right? Betting, betting platform, partnership, gambling partnership. And so this is like very pervasive across our whole, like the whole population of the United States, but particularly men, which is why I feel like a lot of women don't care about it. They don't like they might hear. their friends or boyfriends talking about it, like, my parlay's gonna hit. They don't really know I d and tell you guys something else, truthfully, I don't even know how a parlay works. Okay. I don't even know how a parlay works, which is why this is the name of the episode. I feel like I can capture the minds of the women here because we don't know how parlays work. Which is also why this is flown like under the radar for a good little minute. Okay. And this is something that we actually need to talk about. And the only people I see talking about it are men. Okay. Because the men see what's happening to the men, whereas women We're looking at this from the outside and we don't really know what's going on in there. So let me tell you, okay. Let me let me tell you what's going on. women feel like we have no dog in this fight, right? Because we're coming at it from the outside. And I'm telling you that we actually do need to have a dog in this fight. We need to pay attention to what's happening in the sports betting markets because it is going to bankrupt the general like it's gonna bankrupt so many families. Okay. Because gambling addiction is a very unique addiction in that when you turn it, it's almost like If you have people who are alcoholics or they're drug addicts, right? Or like you just people that are addicted to their phones. Like that's a lot of us. We just like opened a phone on a whim. You thought you were walking and all of a sudden your phone is in your hand and you're looking at Instagram. Okay. That is the nature of addiction to the electronics, but it's associated with money. Okay. It's associated with money. so it's like if you had someone who's an alcoholic and the alcohol came out of their phone. Okay. That is the nature of gambling addiction, how readily available it is. with this type of I don't know, sin with this type of vice is like it's it literally attached to your phone. So gambling addiction is bankrupting households because men cannot still sometimes like when you start, it's really hard to stop and it's a constant it's a dopamine thing, right? It's a dopamine thing. What the same way that you when you're on social media, like the infinite scroll is like constant dopamine dopamine to your brain. It is the same thing, except they're playing with their money. Okay. And if you look at that as a hobby, some of the guys just they just like to do it, right? They think it's fun to bet on sports. When that tips into addiction, that's when it gets problematic. I'm not saying like don't go have your fun, but like my hobbies, I I love to read, right? Like so I do I read a lot of books, but I would have to buy like so many books to bankrupt my household. Okay. And this is so it's different. It's a different kind of hobby. And it's one that we need to watch out for. And I say that it's gonna bankrupt families. That's why women should care about this, actually. And that's my premise of the argument for like why women should care about this. Because even if you don't say you're not in a household, right? Like you don't have a man like that, you don't have a boyfriend, you don't have husband. All of us have brothers, cousins, dads, uncles, people, like friends, guy friends that we care about, right? And it's this population that is being targeted, specifically targeted, to extract from them, right? To get them hooked on this type of activity. Okay. And then like it is a concerted effort to do it across the board. And then when I talk like I didn't want to go too deep into this topic. On the podcast because it's about capital and ownership and influence. But I frankly I think this is the same topic. I think this is that. That you have people in power, these huge c huge corporations who have bought out the government on their regulations. So they're not even treated, they're not regulated like gambling markets, even Calching Parley market, because they're prediction markets for now. They've bought out the government, right? And so then they don't have the same regulation. And so there's not consumer protection around this. And so you have large groups of men. Who are getting addicted to spending their money, losing their money. It's not like they're winning money. Okay. Like these guys are not winning money. They might win once in a while to keep them like in the loop, in the spiral. But it's not like they're winning money. And women, ladies, I'm talking to you, we all have men in our lives that we care about. And I the other thing I want to touch on here, which is maybe outside of the scope of this podcast, is the fact that this whole feminism thing, girl boss thing, I think that's a psyop. I think it's a psy-up. And I say that I think it's a psy-up because none of the women that I know th feel how people say the feminists feel. Okay. When you look at the feminist quote unquote movement, we don't need men and we can do all this stuff for ourselves and we don't like is it functionally, I can just be me, be a girl. I do not know one woman in real life. Like you might say, Okay, yeah, I've seen it online, I've seen it on TikTok. In real in my real life life in Florida and all the places that I've lived, I've not met one woman. Or maybe it's just the people I associate with. Maybe that's I don't associate with those type types of women. But like the women that I associate with, we all need men. I do not know one woman who does not want to have a strong, capable, competent man in her life. Like frankly, like truthfully, I I'll tell you this. Like, I do not all of them want men around. Like I have a strong, competent, capable father and a strong, competent, capable brother. And I will raise strong, competent, and capable sons. Okay. Like this is not something that I I think the feminist movement, maybe it was here, maybe it was before my time. I don't know, but it's surely gone now. And as a woman who like I work for myself, I own businesses, multiple businesses, and I like I don't want to never want to be a single mom. It's not because I like there's no part of my brain where it's like, yeah, I would be better off as a woman by myself without a man in my life, like that. Does not cross my brain and it also does not cross the brain of the women that I know. So I think that this whole feminist thing might be a sig-up. But anyway, I say that to say that women, unfortunately, we need the men around. And this phenomenon, like I think we should genuinely treat this as if it's like a very targeted wasting disease, right? Coming for the young men of this country. And we should care about that because those young men are not going to have the chance to turn into the strong men that they were supposed to turn into. Okay. Like there's so many different forces and women are a little bit more we're a little bit more put together, right? Like a little bit more able to like understand how these things are working, be a little bit more emotionally intelligent. Like we're a little bit farther ahead than our male peers in a lot of cases at the same age. Okay. So I the which is why I speak to y'all. I think that we do have a dog in this fight because if we do not pick a fight with this, You're gonna have large groups of men who are like addicted to this technology and constantly betting away, not saving anything for their futures, not building anything, not turning themselves into someone. And that is a problem for us. Okay. Like the 49% to our 51%, we actually need them. And most women know that we need them. Okay. And we actually want you all around. Frankly, like we want we want you all around. I take no issue. But I I think that most women don't realize what's happening here, which is why I wanted to talk about it because it's getting it's getting worse. Okay. And The thing about sports gambling, I got I pulled some stats, right? So when states legalize sports betting, you increase the likelihood of bankruptcy in that state by twenty-five to thirty percent. Okay, there's a study about this. Another one for you, legalized betting amplifies intimate partner violence around betting upsets by ten percent. Another one for you 36% of problem gamblers report abusing their spouse. Okay. This is the same thing as like I don't know if y'all knew this, and I actually learned this from Breaking Points episode. So shout out to Breaking Points, Crystal and Togger. women back in the day when they were pushing for prohibition, it was like really women pushing for that because the men were out there drinking, getting drunk, coming home, and they were getting their asses beat. Okay. Like they were getting beat up at home. And so it was the women pushing for this movement. Like, y'all, we need to enforce some sobriety here because we are really getting messed up. Like, That's a crass way to put it. So apologies on the back end of that. But like they were getting beat up at home and they did not like it. So they were pushing forward. That's the whole like reason for the prohibition movement. Okay. And I think we should look at this as something similar. I don't know how bad this gets, but I do know there's a ton of like really negative things swirling around the gambling space. And women, you might think that you in your twenties. You don't need a man to like support you and probably you you shouldn't, but we're getting to a point where you may like most of the women, and I I don't even think it's I don't think it's untrue to say most of them, in that most would be like 51%. Most of the women that I know, they don't want to work. They actually do want to be stay-at-home moms, which is a crazy thing to say in 2026, because for a long time we've been told that like women want to be independent. They want to go to work, they wanna have careers, they wanna have like whatever. And some women do. Okay, but I think it's actually 49%. And lower that want to do that now. And most of the women that I talk to are very happy to be at home, raise kids. But a a pre requ prerequisite for that to happen is that the male in the household has to support the household, right? He's gotta be steady and strong and capable and competent. Okay. To just bring it back. I think that we we need them and a lot of women want that life where they're able to raise kids, focus on development there, focus on like Helping their children grow up properly turn into like really nice, capable little humans. Most women want that. Okay. And it that is not going to be able to happen if our men, our like generation of men, is gutted by scor sports gambling, right? That they get themselves is in such debt that they cannot get out, right? Like that is not going to be able to happen. And And I think we just need to treat it more like it's a disease that's coming after them than just like, a fun thing that they get to do on weekends. Like, no, I I actually don't think it's that. And I'm not even like some people make a religious argument. I'm not even religious. I'm not even religious. I just see what's happening. I see this impact on society. And I'm like, I don't think that we should abide by that. I don't think we should accept that. in the final thing here, just before I close this out, like very ironically, one of the co-founders of CalShi, which is one of these huge prediction markets, is the like youngest female billionaire in the United States. And while on other terms that might make me laugh, like this is it's so ironic. It's so ironic because the people that are gonna be hurt, like yes, it's the men, but it's the men and the women and the households that are genuinely going to be hurt. Like you could laugh at the idea of like all men are so stupid. They're just spending their money on these like gambling platforms. They're just like you could maybe laugh at that. I don't think that that part's funny. I think it's even less funny when that trans like translates itself into violence and breaking up the household and men who are not able to support themselves and certainly not anybody else. Right. Like I think that that is when it's just really problematic and kind of sad to look at. And we should think about that as a society, what we want to do there. And as a very, very last data point, because I've been ranting about this for a quick second. if you look at what's happened to the black community in America, right? Like in the 60s when they launched all the drugs into the community, the CIA did that. that was intended to break up the household, right? You had two parent households and then you had kids. And what they did when they funneled drugs into the community was take out all the black men, right? So to jail, right? They're granted participating in crime, whatever, but like facilitated that ecosystem. Sent them to jail. So then you had a bunch of single moms. And when you have single moms trying to raise kids, things do not go well. Okay. And that's what I like literally, I see this, and I'm like, I think that that is what certain people might be trying to do to the entirety of the US familial population. So anyway, call me crazy, but that is what I think about the situation. And women, we really, really do need to care. So. Thank you for listening. Please subscribe, share with a friend, share with a lady friend if you've got one. Because actually, ladies, we hold the keys. Like, and in case you didn't know how much power you have, the only reason men go after money and riches and fame is because they're trying to get girls. Okay. It's the only reason, like they like to compete with each other. All right, whatever. like the monkey that gets to the tallest part of the tree is the one that wins. Okay, fine. But really, they're they're competing to get girls. And if the girls say, Hey, no, actually, I don't want this happening because I think that you are no if you are betting on these platforms, you're not gonna be able to support me and my lifestyle. Like we do carry a whole lot of power on that front. So I'll leave you with that. Thank you for joining me today on Fathom. Come back next week. I don't know what we're gonna talk about. It'll be something important though.
