Dan Webster Golf: Hello and welcome back to the Performance Golf Podcast. This is Dan Webster and we are now on episode two. Technically the first episode was a six minute intro, but we're going with it. This is episode two of the new podcast and please bear with me. I'm still learning. I'm doing a lot of research and studying on software, recording techniques, microphones and technology and so on. you are on the lift at probably ground floor with me. maybe even basement and we're hoping to get to the top together. So enjoy the journey, enjoy the ride. Today we're going to give you a few little updates in this podcast. I'm to give you an update as to the progress we're having with the indoor facility. Also an update regarding the driving range. You will have heard a few rumours about that. And that's Lytham Golf Academy. I'm going to cover a little bit on TPI as well, Titleist Performance Institute. which is a golf specific biomechanics, probably the most world renowned mobility and stability course and something I really use a lot of in my coaching and potentially a little junior golf update as well. We'll see how time drags on. Don't want to send you all to sleep too soon. Before we get to that though, first of all, thank you very much to those of you who have listened to the podcast already. Very surprised, quite a few of you have, but also. What I'm really pleased about is the feedback I've had from it lots of you have messaged me, sent me DMs through my social media channels. I do have Facebook, Instagram, Dan Webster Golf, Twitter X, YouTube, many ways of getting hold of me. I do like, obviously the feedback's brilliant. Thank you very much. But what I'd also like is you to send me a few questions and there'll be a certain part of the podcast moving forward where we will do Q &A, send me some golf questions in. Life questions if you like, see if I can help out anyway. But regarding nutrition on the course or fitness mobility, coaching itself. if you're struggling with certain areas, maybe I can help out on that front as well. I am intending to host guests during this podcast over the next few weeks. And I've already got a handful of amazing guests lined up. who've been in touch since hearing episode one. we're gonna be talking to some coaches, some great athletes, some good YouTubers and podcasters, and also people within the trade, people that are custom fitting on a day-to-day basis, helping golfers find the best performance equipment or fitness methods and even their best. coaches. lots to be excited about. Really pleased that you're on this journey with me. Thank you very much for that. Just to give you a little update now. I did mention that the landlords at Lism Golf Calama driving range, the landlords have recently mentioned to me that they are going to explore opportunities to develop the land in the future. That does not mean we are closing. That doesn't mean I've sold up and I'm moving off to Barbados as nice as that would be. It basically means Despite I've got seven years left on my lease, my landlords are currently investigating opportunities to do something else with the land and I will not get in their way. I'm hoping I've got a few years left, but if not, hence the main reason I've set up Performance Golf Lidlm, which will be hopefully opening this winter an indoor golf performance facility with simulators, video capture. force plates, putting green, fitness area, small cafe. We're going through a process at the minute on that front. Today we've managed to get the change of use planning application submitted. Exciting day. Finally, it's taken a while just to get that submitted and now we're going to be waiting on the council to make sure everything we do, everything correctly and get the change of use agreed. It currently is not an indoor golf facility. It is based in Lytton. We're gonna talk to you a little bit more about location and things over the next few weeks in the podcast. You are the first to know. So I haven't announced this information anywhere. So this is a thank you to supporting the podcast early on, because you are, like I've said, you're in the know, to understand what's happening with my new facility, my new venture, and also... You'll hear rumors out there, lots of you listening from Lytham and St. Anne's, you'll hear rumors about the driving range. Do not worry, we are not closing next week. That is not happening. We're very busy. We're making changes all the time. We're investing in the range all the time at the moment. And hopefully we'll be there for a few more years to come. Okay, moving to the main topic today of this podcast, which is Titlist Performance Institute, TPI. Now... For me, performance has to be many, many forms and Titleist Performance Institute sits really well with us. I became a TPI level one coach about 10 years ago and then followed that up with level two. I've recently done level two juniors, which includes long-term athletic development and I've also done level two power. Golf is a power game and nowadays if you want to compete at the top level and I work with a lot of golfers that do, you need to generate around 180, 190 mile an ball speed. So I'm now learning the skills and the techniques to help golfers achieve that. So why am I bringing TPI into my day-to-day coaching? So I'll give you a little example of a client I worked with recently. He's late 80s, been told he's gonna stop playing golf. He's been a golfer all his life, been told he's gonna stop playing golf because of his struggling with his back and he's a retired... consultant surgeon. you know, he actually didn't take no as an answer. Came to me and said, look, is there any way you can help me? And again, I've got to explain here. I'm not from the medical profession. However, I said, look, I'll do a screening on you took about 10 or 15 minutes, we looked at this golfers limitations, found some problems found some issues, which were clearly obvious. But then we also found a way of working around them. And I've also given the golfer some stretches, some mobility work, I found him some lighter clubs, different things to help him carry on his golf life. And he is now playing more than ever. He was told not to play golf and he's playing great, he's enjoying himself. And for me to see that in a golfer is really exciting. On the other end of the scale, I am doing a lot of work with junior golf in the area. I'm a junior organizer at Linden. Green Drive Golf Club. We have a junior academy at the driving range as well and I intend to do a lot of work with junior golfers through the winter in the indoor facility. And why does TPL, why does Times Forums Institute resonate so well with junior golf? Well they have a program which is athlete first and it's all about long-term athletic development. So when we work with a junior golfer we're not just teaching them golf swing, we're teaching them functional movement patterns that will cross over into any sport. So your young golfer might play football, play cricket, play tennis. What we work on and what TPI encourage in their curriculum, skills and movement patterns that will help progress the golfer, the athlete in any sport. And this is a big part of my coaching and my belief. My two young boys, I have mentioned them in the last podcast, Harry and Charlie. Now, Harry is 30, just turned 13 years old. He'll be going through growth spurts, different phase of his. biological age now and I'm fully aware of how he needs to stretch currently as he's growing as he's going through growth spurts. His speed window, the speed window for a young boy between the ages of six and nine and then 13 to 16. Now these two speed windows, if you miss the speed windows there's a chance you won't develop much power in your golf swing. and understanding how to work with a golfer, a junior golfer, during a speed window. For example, shuttle runs, swing as hard as you can. If you're a parent of a seven year old golfer and you're trying to get them to slowly and make sure they connect with the ball, do not worry about that. Whack it, find it, whack it again and generate that speed mentality. There's plenty of time to develop skill. For girls, if you are a parent of girl golfers, young junior golfers, it's a little bit earlier. So those speed windows come in between the ages of four and seven and then 11 to 13. And during that time in the life, if you're listening and you've got a junior golfer in your family, during those ages, do things to give them speed. That's if they want to be quick and hit the ball a long way. And I did mention currently, there are golfers hitting 180, 190 mile an hour ball speeds. There's a few, a few exceptions. Aaron Rye, for example, but the rest and the juniors coming through the ranks in Scandinavia, Britain, Manitoba and America are certainly working with those kind of metrics. There are other big assets of TPI and you know, I'm not going to go and waffle on about them all today. There's lots and lots to talk about over the next few weeks how biomechanics and how mobility and stability can help you. move your body better, use the ground forces better, but we will cover them at a later date. Right, so that's about it for today's podcast. Really appreciate you tuning in again. Try not to go on too much at the minute. We're gonna do a few Fast and Furious episodes. Once again, thank you very much for taking the time to listen. Do share this podcast, with your friends, I would love to generate a nice community and please send in some information, send some questions in that you would like answering. I'll be working with you. We'll help you play better golf. Thank you very much for listening. We'll see you soon.
