vol30: Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of Curated Confessions where we drink wine and talk design. I'm your host, Hilary Smith. And I'm Brittany Pel Shakoma. And we are the lead designers and owners of Brit Hill Interiors in Brayville, Louisiana. Cheers. Cheers. We skipped wine today and went with coffee and tea. It's been a tears. It's been a month. Month, a week, a day. Mm. Except I just microwave mine and it's I might have got a little carried away. I'm drinking some positive energy tea today. fantastic. Tangerine. Is that supposed to be positive? I saw on the box it said that. I was I saw it at the store. I was like, ooh, need that. Let me let me know that works. Yeah. definitely need all the the positive vibes. Yes. So, what's going on? Yeah. Plaster still. As sad as it is to have to say that. I really thought I was gonna be finished last week. I put in my little notebook I was finished last week, so my week has been. Just gotta carry that little check mark to the next Yeah. yeah, plaster, some ordering, some adding inventory. Yeah, we just got in some new Christmas inventory. Yes, which We skipped our holiday open house. I'm like, what are we gonna get back around circle back on that? Coming soon. We're tired. Everything's just a little delayed this year. Yes. Which I was gonna say I feel like that's everything, but I don't know if that's true. I feel like maybe I'm just slow this year. I added I I got fall fest and I was like, did I pay for mini melts today? Sorry, and my brain is some still this is her mini melts at school today. I would die. She's going to be She would survive, but She would. She'd probably still another kid's or something. I don't think so. I don't know. You said she really loves them. I know, but I don't think she's mean. No, she's not mean. Sharing is caring. What is a mini melt? It's w there were dip and dots in our day. Yeah. it's new brand and I s I went to Blue Bayou, oddly enough, this summer, and I was like, what the heck is a mini melt? And I was like, no, those are called dip and dots. And then I saw in Walgreens, they have a little freezer by the photography area. If you need to go pick up your passport photo, you can get some mini melts there as well. It's all the same flavors too, bless you. Excuse me. Cookies and cream, the rainbow eyes, it's all the same flavors. Wow. So they just rebranded. Or it's a different company that just took over their idea. But however that looks I don't They do it once a month, so it's just something to think about. It's really not that hard. It's literally just one credit card payment, but maybe we should have a mini melt day at Brit Hill. We used to have margarita Mondays and now we're just having like mini meltdown Mondays. That is very true. Can we make it a podcast day? I I want to try mini melts. okay. Yeah. Okay. I'll swing by Walgreens. Ooh, mini melts with champagne. I was gonna call it mini melts with meltdowns and just we sit here and eat ice cream and cry. Yeah, I think mini meltdown should be like a monthly podcast. I don't know why I feel like champagne needs to be involved in it too. That's great. Yeah, I thought you were trying to get away from the drinking. I don't We can add champagne in it. I'm getting the rainbow ice. I know. See, these were supposed to all be on Fridays. It's gotten a little tricky, so it's really hard to get drunk on a Wednesday morning. Like and like and then we it might be like tea time Tuesdays. You never know what you're gonna get for this. Yes. I think they've figured that out by now. It's like episode 947. I'm like, it's really just we say the same thing a lot. We're having a meltdown. Macchiato Mondays. Yes. and Starbucks gets me. They know, they know me so well every time I log in. I'm sure y'all's are different. I'm sure they do it based on what y'all ordered. Like they'll have the it's like they know I have ADHD and they know I have like a thing with needing to check boxes and stuff or something, but they do the you get extra points if you get five macchiados this week. And I'm like, Well here we go about food. I'm like, give me another croissant. So that they I mean, it's is the algorithm the same thing? Do you still call it an algorithm if it's every app? I don't know. It's not Facebook, but it it knows. They're not dumb. They know how to upsell you. Mm-hmm. So I was watching this thing this morning about how Unfinished projects, which it's almost like it heard me crying in the bathroom or something. And so then it was like, Here, watch this TikTok about unfinished projects. And once again it was some someone that has a name that I don't remember their name because A D D. But ADHD, I found out that people with ADD are the people that aren't diagnosed and they just decided that they have it. That was a comedian that said that Friday. He was like, That H is for hospitalization. You have to go to the doctor to get that H. It's important. So, Squirrel. speaking of, I have a squirrel living in my attic that's tearing up all of my stuff. So that's another yeah, that's destroyed everything in my house. But all my wiring. my gosh. So we're working on that. I know there's some people in Louisiana that like to hunt squirrels. my husband's trying. I'm gonna need someone that likes to hunt squirrels. I used to like make a trap for that or something. we got those. He don't want to get in there. No, he likes Christmas lights and put some nuts in there or something. We have peanut butter in there is what they swore by. So I'm sure we're attracting other critters. I'll love that for us. but raccoon. You can have a whole little party. We've already had a raccoon. That one was tough. they've popped swimming pool. They've destroyed mine. Yeah. my god. But anyways, I digress. There was this unfinished project. So Your brain is diag like is designed to keep unfinished projects on the forefront. Like you constantly think about them. Because like back in the day, whenever you didn't finish your hut, you'll die. If you didn't finish your fire, you'll die. If you didn't finish hunting, you'll die. So your brain's designed to remember things that you forgot to finish. Unfortunately, ours are like, hey, you didn't send that email, hey, you didn't send that text message. And it just replays in a loop over and over and over. And then also, if you're like me, you forget to do it, but then you remember it obsessively, but then you still can't do it. It's a problem. but basically, you just your brain can't stop until you finish your project. And I'm like, if I don't finish this plaster, I think I might have a stroke. So that is I have so many of those on my play right now that my brain is My brain actually doesn't do it on a loop anymore. I used to get in bed and I would be like, my gosh. Now it just gets in bed and goes, Yeah, like I it just shuts off. Normally if I put it on my to-do list or in my planner, like it's kinda out of my brain until I check that. But I haven't had time to keep that. Yeah. Up to date. So now it's just like replaying like you're talking about? It did say so part of this study was that if you come up with a plan on how to finish the task, your brain will accept that as acknowledgement that you did something with the task. So I that's I'm I write down like, okay, you're gonna do it on Tuesday, you're gonna do this on Thursday, but then something else pops up and you don't get to do it, and your brain has to push it back up to like, you lied to me and now it's mad at you. Yeah. So here we go. Yeah. And I got like a hundred and eighty seven of those tabs. Probably more than that. I think I was trying to grossly overestimate I think I underestimated that. Both of our tabs together? I mean I probably have a hundred and eighty-seven just on my computer. Yeah. Not to mention the phone, the the separate windows of tabs on the computer, because I gotta keep you know, there's organization to it. In your brain, yes. Tab by tab. Yes. Which this wasn't supposed to be a mental health episode, but I feel like they're all turning into mental health episodes. Yeah. We need a new therapist. I need a new therapist. Why did she retire right now? Did she not see that this was meltdown time of year? Anyways. So this is our busiest time of year, if you couldn't tell. We are We said that and I don't know if there's a time when we're not now at this point. Yeah. But I still keep getting calls on like these little more tasks to add. I know. It doesn't stop. It doesn't stop. It's I mean Yes. I have no advice for you. The what I keep getting is stay blessed or remember you're blessed or whatever nonsense they keep telling me so I don't have a stroke. Yeah. You definitely gotta keep that in check. Yeah, yes. Mm-hmm. Okay. Pivot. Okay. what are we doing this week? Well, we're actually filming the day the podcast is due. So I don't that means probably no editing. So this is fun. So I'm gonna Well, we're not drinking, so it'll be explained. Yeah. Also, I really don't edit you very much. What y'all say is pretty much I was gonna say, what you edit Britney? So he's out here all willy nilly just saying whatever comes to mind. They're like, That's got a flaw. We're just gonna let that one p arrive at Since we And these are gonna be live now. We're just gonna do it on the fly. Yeah. since we last spoke we had a outdoor install. Yes. That was fun. We haven't posted pictures yet, but they're coming. Yes. Some some great footage of some manual labor. I bet. There's a lot of big heavy furniture. No, I had to I had to bring a shovel and for you. Yeah. I you know, we had to do this whole bird sculpture. In the garden. And when I get there, the there's like a hole where the sculpture needs to go and it needs to be like flat and level and then there's plants and stuff and it's all lumpy. Love it. So I got my shovel and I dug in the dirt for a while, leveled that out, laid some leveled concrete so they could put the sculpture. And we it was a whole like wraparound patio, bright and colorful for spring and summer, but we also got her like pillows for winter fall so she could transition outside. So we got footage of both. And you know, there were some hiccups but nothing we didn't overcome and it turned out great. And I really like they had this fire pit area. Where she was like, they didn't have enough seating, but yet it's like not quite big enough to Yeah, it has a difficult space. I remember measuring nine feet isn't really a wide space and it's a huge wraparound porch, but nine feet somehow is the entire space. And I'm like, that's when I got it all laid out, it didn't seem crammed or like it, you know, it it filled in how it should have. So so yeah, it came out great. Stay tuned for some footage of that. we did outdoor pillows, we did outdoor umbrella for the pool, some pool pillows for the little layout chairs, rockers, dining table, outdoor rugs, outdoor art, all kind of stuff. So that was fun. and thankfully it was like it's when the weather turned a little bit better. So it was a pretty day out on the farm. And what else? We are, like we said, unpacking new Christmas inventory that will be out soon. And we are working on multiple remodel projects. So those are all upcoming. we had a couple presentations. It's been a lot. Like I can't even keep up You had another install? In my head. Which one? Monday. yeah. That one was a blur. so we had a partial install. We did furniture, accessories, and we're doing window treatments. We had some delays on some trims and fabric, so we had to reselect and so those are coming in the next couple of weeks. But She was she's one of those clients that well most people, you know, like feel a lot better once they they're very visual and once they see it. Yeah, once they see it all together. So which is why we we kind of wait till install day to set up accessories and kind of make it all come together. So once she saw the furniture I think her her nerves settled and she really loved it. And then we did accessories For a living area and kitchen and entry. And she was like, Yep, I love it all. I wanna keep it. So, that was fun. I can't wait to get all the window treatments up so we can take some footage of that to show. and then it's on the water as well. So it was have like a beautiful view. We're just like framing out the windows and kind of softening and They had this kinda odd, uneven situation with like a door and window height. So we finagled some things to make it to disguise all the the trickery, yeah. One thing you can do with drapery that makes a big difference. So now like all their the back wall of the house will seem like one continuous window. They'll never know. They'll never know. And upcoming we have a kitchen remodel, a bath remodel presentation, and a whole home remodel in the next two weeks. So working on those and a kind of like a mid-century bungalow type large kitchen remodel. So starting with the space plans and everything for that. So that's what we have going on. we also, if you are a realtor or a broker or just in looking for a luxury home, we will be joining, we're sponsoring one of the sponsors for a a broker's open house on this Thursday. What is the date this Thursday? Twenty second. Twenty second. eleven to two. It's in Mallard Lake. So we did a post about that. So if you're a realtor or broker or in in search of a home, come check us out. We have l a fall theme Brit Hill swag bag gift basket that they'll be raffling and some other some other things. So that'll be fun. Mm-hmm. we'll be there for a bit. Meeting and greeting and checking things out. we didn't design the home, but it looks beautiful. Maybe the new home buyers will need some things. Yes. So yeah, that's all I got for the day. Thank y'all for tuning in today and we'll see you next time on Curated Confessions. You can watch us on YouTube and Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
