Dr. Dean Alley PhD: All right, Chaplain Dean Alley. So I hope you are doing well today. It is Thursday. You are getting ever so close to Friday. And we get to celebrate. It'll be Friday tomorrow. Anywho's, I thought I would jump in here and just talk a little bit about Genesis. 16 little verses, line by line. And let me give you the context. context is king and scripture with scripture is the most or the best way to interpret the Bible. And I wanted to just break this out for you and kind of give you that background. So from a historical standpoint, and we did the the chapter 15 yesterday. I hope that was a blessing for you. I know I did have I did have one fan that did call me a lot of names and they were inappropriate and labeled me as a Jew. And even though that the language was not tolerated, I had to delete it because people see these things and had he not used the profanity, I would have loved to engage in a conversation. And that's what typical people do is they get on there, they hide behind the keyboard and they just shoot things out there. I couldn't even respond to his account because he he had like twelve people on it. I mean it was like he just started. So I wasn't able to engage with him and I I I I really and truly I'm I'm wanting to engage. Every day I ask myself, you know, again, Lord show me people, show things, and also use what he's taught me to help people unlock or remove any distractions that you might have. And honestly, from a biblical standpoint and using the Bible as the authority. So you always have to ask a couple questions before you get into a conversation with somebody. And I have lots of them. some of them are good, some of them are bad, but everything I do I try to utilize the Bible because it's my authority. It's the word of God and I do believe that. but I always ask, you know, very first question is tell me what your belief system is or what does the Bible mean to you? So that's the first thing I always ask, because if we can't get there and get to a common ground or common footage on that topic, then we're probably not gonna get along much long much further around down the road in our conversation because that's where I'm going to reference most of my authority. Secondly, if they say, Well, I believe the Bible, and if do you believe it's the inherent word of God, which I do, and do I think that there's scribal errors, maybe a dot, maybe a comma, but maybe, meh, maybe. But my point is what's in it is what God wanted us to know. And He wrote that for us to know the Bible. Our job, according to the Bible, He commands us to study. to study yourself to be approved, a workmith not to be ashamed. So I like to I'm a studier anyways, I'm a processor anyways, I have a PhD, I'm a researcher, but I am always looking and we should be searching for the truth in the in the Word of God. And as you discover those truths, they should solidify your foundation and ground you into the biblical bible and God's true word. And but that doesn't mean I'm not willing to listen to somebody's viewpoint. I am absolutely willing to listen to somebody's viewpoint and try to see where they're coming from. Now, ninety percent of the time they're gonna hook themselves into a position and say that's it because Uncle Joey told me that over Thanksgiving and I believe it. Okay, well I can't do anything with that. But anyway, so these people caught he called me Jew. so he's half right. So we are grafted into Israel. We are the mystery that was held secret, right? All through the gospels, all through the old testament, the church is grafted in as the body of Christ. That is a mystery. And Jew and Gentile, there's no different anymore. Paul brings that to us. He brings it through the church, which is from the church age, and that's my dispensation from the dis dis dispensation age. we are in the age of grace. And I know or dispensation six that we are in the church age since you know these New Testament Bible was written. Another reason I take the Bible as an authority, Jesus referenced them in his gospels and to solidify that they were the truth. So as you read things that are quoted in the New Testament and it ties into the old testament, you really gotta pay attention and and and and not dispel that. People love to do that and they like to essentially shoot a hole in it. And what I find is most people that do this they don't like truth or they don't want to hear it. They want to paint the picture Of how they see things. And they see, God's a loving God. He's a this, He's never gonna let us do that. Who do you think you are? I people, it's not me. I'm reading the Bible, I'm providing the information, I'm rightly dividing the best of my ability and sharing that gospel. I challenge everybody to read the gospels or read the Bible in general. Come to the conclusion yourself and rightly divide it and ask yourself, is this what it means to me. And I like to look at it from the historical standpoint. I like to look at it from a doctrinal standpoint. I like to look at it from an inspirational standpoint. And also from an application standpoint. And I try to look at that when I look at verses or chapters or whatever. and I try to understand it. So I'm just giving you a a little bit of a narrative of how do I get to where I am today and everything that I put out here is stuff that I researched. So for instance, I just got done reading the Torah and their version of Genesis six or Berashit is their name for Genesis. Why did I read it? Sometimes you can pull things out of it and sometimes it's accurate. What I find here is we would and and I'll talk about it when we get there, but we would call the angel of the Lord or We would say that's basically Jesus. angel of the Lord is Jesus, and that is our God, our second in the triune. The Torah, they call it an angel. Angel of God. There's no Lord or Holy Spirit. It's it's the angel of God, Hashem. They use the word Hashem because they feel it's reverent and they don't want to disrespect the name and blaspheme. That's the one of the reasons they call it ha hash. Hashem. And so anyways I I so I read a little bit there. I read the verses, read again, looked at again, and then I looked at a couple commentaries, then I did some research and then I put together a kind of a a a flow of how I wanna talk about this chapter. So I'm you know, no secret. Also, I try to ensure that we are getting you the right information and it's sound doctrine and that's my goal. And i I say things sometimes in perfect in I'm imperfect sometimes. I've I've used and I try to go back and try to I I d I hardly ever try to watch myself, but if I listen to myself because you I'm on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. I might hear something and say, that's wrong. And I'll go in there and I'll make a edit by putting a comment in there, like, hey, I missed it. This is the name of it. my mind said this, but I meant this. and I try to I'm I'm teachable, right? I am not the master, right? The master is the Lord Jesus Christ, our living Savior. And we s we are servants, as Mark says, and his gospel. And we are to serve him. And that's the reason I'll go back and I'll fix something. And I can always appreciate somebody's position, both theological. you know, I don't get ti the the religion part, man, I don't get too jazzed up about certain positions. I know there's certain denominations out there that would fall in the classification of a cult. Many people don't want to hear that, but that's a true statement. And They know it and there's no sense me reminding them that. But if I'm challenged or I'm put on the spot, I'm gonna rightly divide the truth and provide that to the individual. And I have no as they would say, a dog in a fight other than provide you the best possible information for you to make the best decision and then I challenge you to to to fact check me all day long. And when you do that and when you have a non profit like I have, and you receive no funding from anybody, no advertising, no anything, you have the freedom to preach the preach the word of God in season. And I absolutely love that sense. I think we had another thirty thousand people on Instagram. Don't ask me why, you will be underwhelmed to listen to these type of teachings. but If we were gonna stand here and say, okay, from a credentialing standpoint, what makes you the authority? Well nothing. I'm no better than you. You can pick up the Bible and read it and you can discern it for yourself. And you should be the one that makes that final decision. Now, have I gone to seminary? Yes. Have I gone to let's see, seminary, I've gone to divinity school? yes, and I've gone to You know, a what do they call university level, the name of it but it's a it's a it's it's it's a segment where they they call categories like a a conference like a football conference is a a big school would be the first one. So I've been to a big school, okay? And I've gone through and studied with some great people and I've learned some things but I didn't need to go. I wanted to go. It was more of a personal thing for me. So I climbed into three different schools and study theological and viewpoints. and I I I benefited from them, but that doesn't make the th the authority. Now people love to see the authority and they like to see that kind of pedigree and I would say that I would have all of those. you know, and and with the doctoral PhD, which is a very heavily researched degree, probably one of the most difficult, I think there's less than five percent in the world that have PhDs. So there's not a lot of PhDs, a lot of doctors out there. But I I saw at the PhD and it was very, very I don't want to say difficult because God opened my abilities to be able to go through it do that. But I it's not me, it's him. And I've said that before. I was not very good in school and for whatever reason I did very well in both seminary and divinity school and these universities and and other colleges and Very well. And I I d it wasn't me, it was God all the way 'cause I prayed for every every single test I took. But anyways, enough about me, but I just well I throw that out there because people will hide behind a keyboard and attack you. And you go in there and look at their you go in and look at their profile and they got like two followers. They've been on whatever that social media feed for as of the day or within two weeks. Which tells you who it is. It's somebody just creating havoc and doesn't want to know the truth. Now, folks, there's people out there don't want to know the truth. There's people that don't want to go to heaven. That's okay. That's between them and their maker. Bible's very clear, you're either gonna believe or not. And it's not a Well if you do this. No, folks. Let me k let me give it to you straight up and down. Let me cut it right down the lip middle, just like I did yesterday when I talked about that. Covenant God made with Abraham about him being the seed for Israel, cut right down the middle, I'm cutting down the middle, black and white, it is you either believe or you don't believe. And see, that's the part you get to choose. So if you end up in a place called hell or TARDIS or Hades Sho she all whatever you want to call it, the levels of hell. Lake of fire is very bad, but you you l you land there, folks, you put yourself there. Just so you know. If you're listening to this podcast and you're watching it and you don't believe, you just only ha you have to say, Well, you know what, I chose not to believe and that's why I'm in hell. Simply put. Or I chose to believe that that is the word of God, and I believe that He came and He died on the cross and He was raised three days later. He's my living Savior, and I constantly strive to bear fruit. Bear fruit by helping non believers and believers alike. And what can I do to glorify God and glorify God each and every day? And and share the gospel and and and make disciples, all those things. And You should be doing that. And if you're not, shame on you. And you don't just sit in a church and say, Yeah, I've been a member of the church for thirty five years. Well tell me how many people you led to Christ last week. I'll pause. A lot of people go to church because they're checking the box. They are saying, I'm in church and and and I'm not saying not to go to church, trust me. I got a philosophy on that, but I'm not saying not go to church. You should be with like minded individuals in there. But if you are not growing in your church, you have to look at yourself. Because if you go into the church I'm thinking about, you're getting the the word given to you. And if you choose not to believe And and it doesn't fire you up to want to tell people about Jesus. Folks, you don't want to stand there in heaven and watch your neighbors get judged and go to hell. And they look at you right in the face. Because we'll know people. They'll look right at you and they'll say, Hey, hey Dean, we've been friends forever. You've known me. Why did you tell me about this gospel of Jesus? I don't want to be there in that future. So I tell everybody And if you come on to one hundred billets, which is my place, you're gonna get a little Lil Jesus. Everybody needs a little Jesus and it always gives me a great com it always gives me a a starting point. And there's not a person that comes on this property that I do not give my little Jesus. And they know that. You know, I've even offered Bible studies to the Amazon guy. But anyways, not for me, but to glorify him. I don't say that as a cliche. I don't say that because, that's what you're supposed to do. Folks, everything I do is for free. All my counseling, all my studies, all my podcasts, all my devotions, all my prayers, all my things that I do to glorify God has no price behind it because it's already been paid for by Christ. Now people will I've had people in my chaplaincy side argue with me and say, don't you think that a chaplain needs to be g getting paid? And I would say it depends. It depends on where you are in your spiritual walk with Jesus. Now should you be able to pay your bills? Yes. If this is your calling, you should have some type of monetary peace to be able to s to pay for your bills and things all that the Lord has blessed me that I don't have to do that. And I'm thankful for that. So That's kinda where I am with the whole whole funding thing and the money thing. I don't even Me just say this way money is a resource. That's it. That's it. I don't ask my wife. She'll tell you. I don't really care. I don't even know what's in the bank. I don't know what comes in. I don't know any of that. You know why? Because it doesn't matter. Doesn't matter to me. And there's a lot of people that it matters to. I saw somebody on social media, I forget who it was, it was a homeless person or whatever, and they were in They were doing things they shouldn't be doing to get money on the street. And they were very much saying how much they worship money. People don't know what they say and think sometimes. Okay, enough about this conversation. Let's get into Genesis 16: the human effort versus the divine promise. So in 2081, throw 2026 on that. Is the ancient Eastern custom and it said in the Nuzi tablet of Hammurabi, important man back in Babylon. He permitted a barren wife to give her slave as a concubine and an heir. Abraham, Sarai, followed the culture rather than wait on what? The covenant. And we'll see that as we go through this. We saw that actually in Genesis twelve. fifteen, yesterday being fifteen. but that would be the start of it. Now Hammurabi, I don't know if you okay so here's all my doubters out there and all my disbelief people. Look up Hammurabi Babylon and look at his laws. They almost mirror what the Ten Commandments are. And you say, well they you know Moses stole them from them. No, I don't believe that's the case. but read They are even they're they're harsh. And that's what he did with people in Babylon. And look it up. Hammurabi code. So, anyways, I I tell you that that tablet basically talked about permitting that barren white. That's a proof positive artifact from that time frame that stated that that happened. So All my non believers that everything's a fairy tale and they don't believe nothing. No, no, sorry. I don't know what to say. So I'm just telling you, it's you should you should I would I would reassess your position. very much so. So the doctrinal context here from the dispensational standpoint, again, I said it dispensational it's in the Bible. you're a what's it? What's the one I hear all the time? You're a Derby, you're a Schofield. now this goes back way back. And when we start talking about the pre and and why I say that is the pre rapture or where we won't be here. That goes all the way back to the Church Fathers. That's a belief system there. That's part of the dispensation there. But people like to just go up to eighteen hundreds and say, These two guys started it and there was a lady up in Maine somewhere had a dream. And this is how dispensational started. Don't believe it. Alright. So this occurs. This dispensation, right, is the promise dispensation. This is before the law. Law is going to come after with Moses. And that'll be the dispensation of the law, where that had to be given for all those six to eight million Israel people coming out of Egypt to manage them. Let me just give you a simple object lesson. A four way stop light. What does it do? It hopefully prevents an accident of somebody hitting themselves. It gives direction to each of the drivers to know exactly how to drive, whether they go through it, turn, knot or hold or yield or whatever, but it is just a simple application that we need a we certainly need to have rules, regulations, and the law. And that will be given through Moses and then you'll see the written law given, which is the Ten Commandments, Mosaic, and then you're gonna hear the o you'll hear the oral law that's later pulled out of the Torah. and that is all six hundred and thirteen oral laws. And God, and if you're a believer of Christ, we don't have to follow this. If you're Orthodox or you're I don't even know if the Messianic folks follow it. But anyways, point being, that is before the law. The the the flesh produces Ishmael. The flesh or our flesh, and in this case, I'm giving you an analogy that Hagar And Sarai and even Abraham plotted to go get a child for Abraham because we saw last chapter where they talked about he didn't have an heir and and God said, No, you will. And he says, You will have an heir, and he promised that. So Ishmael becomes the child of flesh, and then the promise is produced through Isaac. And Isaac will have the child of spirit. So you've got one of flesh, and then you've got one of spirit. So Galatians four twenty one, and those ten verses, see if I can get there. Again, I hope everybody's doing well on this great day. It's been hot, hasn't it? Okay, so I'm at Galatians four and I'm gonna start. Let's see if we can drop down to Drop down to twenty one and this is basically the the two systems of the law and the grace. And it says Tell me ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law like as a question. For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a bond maid and another by a free woman. But he who was a bond woman was born after the flesh. Talk about I is Ishmael. He but he of the free woman was born by the promise, okay? And which things are easy? An allegory for these things are the two covenants, the one at Mount Sinai with the gender to the bond bondage, and which was Agar. For this Agar is Mount Sinai in the Arabia, and answered to Jerusalem, which now is and in bondage with her children. And then he goes on to say, But Jerusalem. Which is above free, which is the mother of all of us, okay? For it is written, Rejoice thou, barren, for the bearest not, break forth and cry thou, the travailest not, for the desolate hath made more children than she which hath an husband. Now we brethren, as Isaac was was. As Isaac was, excuse me, are the children of promise. But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the spirit, even so it is now. Nevertheless, what saith the scriptures? What says the scripture? That's what we're doing. Cast out the bondmen. And her son. For the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the free woman. So then, brethren, we are not children of bondmen bondmen, but we are free. That's giving you the two senses of The law and grace. Okay. Law and grace. We're under freedom free law and grace. And then there's the law, which is the orthodox side of Judaism, which is under bondage still. And that's kind of where I'm going with that. So anyway, so I I read that. thank you for your patience. it treats Hagar and Ishmael and as the Sinai law, Sinai law and bondage, Sarah and Isaac are promised. Through what? The grace and the and the Jerusalem above. Israel's physical seed and the church remain distinct. Human works cannot fill God's covenants. So some highlights that we're gonna look at is Sarah's barren for about ten years in Canaan, and she gives her handmaid to Abraham as a wife to produce a a son. Hagar conceives, despises her. Sarah, because why does she despise? She despises because she thinks she's now entitled. And Sarai mistreats her until the pregnant the pregnant slave flees. The angel of the Lord finds Hagar at a s at a spring on the way to Ushur and commands her to what? To submit, return and submit. And the promises innumerable to the descendants through the son named Ishmael. Now you say to yourself, why did God make him a great nation? Well he's because he came from the seed of Abraham. But it's the Arab nations that are through Ishmael. And Isaac is through the Jerusalem s side of the house. And then because the Lord had given heed to the his re affection, Email will be a wild donkey and a man, in conflict with his brothers, and we'll talk about that. And Hagar names that place that God's and it basically calls it Lord El Ro Roe, which is God sees, is what it means. And what we see here is the first person in Scripture to name God. He's the she is the first person that names God. So we'll get to those pieces. So let's walk through it here in 16. Let me kind of back up where I'm at. So Now Sarai, Abram, Abrams, Sarai and Abrams, they still haven't received their new names. They're called Sarai and Abram, wife, and bore no children, bore him no children, and she had an Egyptian maid whose name was Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, Be now behold, or look, the Lord has prevented me from bearing. A child or children. Please go unto my mate, she's given him permission. Perhaps I will obtain that child through the voice through her. And Abram listened to the voice of Sarah. So when I think about as I break this out, Sarah was was what childless and became impatient. Are you impatient today, folks? Is there something that you want or you you need or think you need? Their wants and needs. God will provide your needs. Maybe not your wants. Let me give you example. I need to eat today at some point. That's a need. But I don't need or I want to get a Lamborghini testerosa in my yard. That's a want. Now, God's not going to give that to me. I mean obviously and you say, Well that's just you know, you know that. Well just giving you an analogy here of wants and needs. So when you get impatient, it causes a couple of things. an unfulfilled desire, Sarah crave for a child. There's a lot of people out here that crave children. I have people that I talk to a lot. that are wanting children or want more children. Mrs. at Harmony Baptist Church, she and her husband, Pastor Marvin Miller, announced that they're having their fourth child. It's a blessing, folks. Having a children is a gift from God. And which was was great news. But I'm saying I also talked to people that want children that can't have children, and there's people that get in these situations. Now I don't know why that happens. other than the fact that there are doctors or things that might be able to help that situation up. But I don't know specifically. and I'm a guy, so that's the other thing. I can only come from a biblical standpoint and I can only offer up the prayers and try to help people in their situation. So Sarah she craved that child. She wanted the child. And then a mistake thought that God had kept care she thought that God kept her from kept her barren That God would prom that God's promise did not include her. How many people take something out of context or preassume? I know some people that will preassume a situation without having the full context or all the information. You've heard I don't I don't have all the information to make that decision. So people start to presuppose suppose. Well, Sarah's doing that. She presupposed that God doesn't want her or doesn't want her to be in the promise to have a child. And the worldly carnal suggestion. that Abraham go ahead just marry S Sarai's maid Hagar but just go bear children because I'll raise them. And that happened a lot, folks. There was you heard me talk about before that there were there were wives in this time frame. You know, God is not happy with multiple wives, but they did go on they did go into their slaves and had more children. But they usually had one that they really loved. I I think of Sarai, and then she they had children. I mean, Abraham had what, ten children, something like that. we don't know all the information. The Bible's not clear, but we don't know he had he had more kids, and there's more kids of of Abraham. But the the the one that matters in the Bible is Isaac. And we talk about Ishmael because that gives us the parody between the flesh and the spirit. It's a good point here. So Sarah gave her maid, which was a terrible sequence of events that happened after that. it was the wrong plan, wrong method. That's all you could say right up front. I mean, what are you thinking? So the collapse of faith and the patience. So she just totally gave out. I want it now. How many people want stuff now? The internet is all about satisfying that need, ASAP. You can Buy something on Amazon and be on your doorstep next day. You can order your groceries online, it can be on your doorstep in several hours. We are become we're a consuming nation. We consume. We we very rarely build things. So we import those things that people build. Now I would love to see more factories and be more of a manufacturing country, but from you know, simply put, From an economic standpoint, with inf inflamm inflation as high as it is and continue to rise, the cost of wages, it's cheaper to get things built outside the country because the wages are less and the American dollar continues to decline and it will. It's going through a tough time now. And so i I would call it a reboot, reset or whatever the economy's trying to do right now. and the prices are not going down, folks. And If you think after this is over, they're all gonna go down. That's not gonna happen either, see? So that's called greed. It's called profit. So wrong plan. So she colla the collapse of their faith. They're basically and their patience. So they lost their faith, they lost their patience in this situation. the sinful behavior by Abram and Sarah and Hagai, the immoral immorality, the adultery. And the polygamy. Okay? You just you just s summed up the issues where God had an issue there. Now, does he punish Ishmael? No. Does he punish Hagar? all depends on how you look at it, but they're another nation of Arabs, which he did bless and he didn't He didn't, you know, get rid of or kill him or anything like that. But in spite of the malice and the insolent reproach and scorn and haughty spirit. So let's pick it up at three. And Sarai, Abraham's wife, took Agar Hagar and her maid, the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years, so basically they're in this land for ten years in Canaan, and gave her husband Abram to be his wife. So now There's gonna be, I could tell you right now, two women to get together, and it never works out. But lots in the room, it's gonna not work out. So, and he went into Hagar and she conceived, and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. She got jealous. She went immediately and she conceived. Now, the Bible doesn't tell me this, but I would say that she probably looked right at her and said, Hey, look at me. I didn't have a problem. I'm conceiving, and probably rubbed it into Sarai. And that created some animosity, I'm sure. I that is a speculation, and that is my emphasis on that verse. So when I say and Sarai said unto Abraham, My wrong, she admits it, be upon me or thee, or him. guess. I have given my maid into thy bosom when they saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes. The Lord judged between me and you. So she's saying, Look, God judge us, and because of my impatience, she was able to quickly get pregnant and have Ishmael. And so you see jealousy and blaming others disturb they sh they get to a point where Where Abraham says, in verse six, he says, But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, your maid is in your power. Do what you basically do to her what you would what is good in your sight. So Sarah treated her harshly, She fled from the presence of of Sarah. And so Sarah dealt hard hardly it says here in the King James is harshly is what he she's trying to make out here. So So verse seven so dis disturbed and severe relationship severed. So then another point I break out here is the Lord saved the maid, Hagar, and the solution or answer to the impatience. How did he do this? Let's pick it up at seven. And the angel of the Lord, which we would say is what? Jesus, the Lord, second in the Trinity. That's what we would say as Christian believers. of Christ. Judea Christianity or excuse me Judea Orthodox Judaism, they would say that's just an angel of God. The difference there. That's what the Torah or that's what I read in the Torah. And I told you earlier about that individual that was criticizing me and called me a Jew and using different things. So I said partly true. It's we're grafted. We are grafted in to the seed of Abraham now. There's no difference between Gentile and Jew. We're all one body of Christ. And that is not so that's a true statement now. Before then, we were considered what? A dog, right? Jews didn't even mix with Gentiles because they were considered a dog less than the lowest of the lowest was a dog. And the Lord found her by a water fountain or a fountain of water in the wilderness by the fountain in the way of Shur. And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence came thou? where'd you come from? Where are you coming from? That's a question. And where and whither or where wilt thou go? So where'd you come from and where you going, Hagar? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress, Sarai. So she's having this confrontation with God. God's asking some pretty straightforward questions. And the angel of the Lord said unto her, Return to thy mistress and submit thyself under her hand. Let me stop. Receiving the promise of God, number one, was a special heritage and an innumerable. seed. So we know that's gonna happen for for both of them actually. And then the special assurance God will make, he'll hear and meet the needs of the distressed. So Think about that for a minute. Return to thy mistress and submit. From a practical sense, are there people in your life? Is there a a boss, a government, is there a law, is there something that you should be doing and you should be submitting to or in this case return to the presence of Sarai? God has given us a pretty good example here and he said, Well chaplain Dean, she's a little upset right now. Look, there's a purpose for everything. I don't have all the answers. We should submit and we should return to Sarai. And it in the same way when we think about Jesus, if you've left Jesus and you've left his presence, I would recommend that you return to Jesus and you submit to him. That's the point I'm making out of this par it's a parallel. on in this passage. So and the angel of the Lord said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shall bear a son, you shall call his son, his name Ishmael, because the Lord hath heard thy affliction. So the son with the special nature, the independent, headstrong, self-willed, violently aggressive, we're gonna hear the the wild man, they call him a wild man. Torah does too. Basically somebody that's always gonna be in conflict. You know anybody that just always starts a fight, always never happy, always picking on things. that's Ishmael. Arabs. Do you see that in the Middle East today? You see Arab nations picking at things, do you see subgroups picking on things and and and feeling like they're the victim and all these things? This is the Ishmael. You're hearing it right here in chapter sixteen. Where he says, and they and he will be verse twelve, a wild man. His hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him, and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren, so all the Arabs and the nations and Isaac and Jerusalem, all i. e. Middle East. And she shall call his name unto the Lord, spake unto the Lord, thou God, thou seest for me. She said, Have I also here looked after him seeeth me? Wherefore, because of that, The well was called Berlahar, which is a name between Kadesh Kadesh and between Barid. So Hagar bare Abraham's Abraham a son and called his son, which Hagar bear was who? Ishmael. And verse sixteen and Abram was four score and and 66 years old. So a score is 20 years. 20 times four. He's 80. And then you add the six. So he is 86 years of age when Hager bore bar or bore Ishmael. So obeying God, going back to the mistress, going back to Sarai and submitting to her, and and Hagar obeys and returns, and then Abraham is obeyed and he names the son Ishmael as God had instructed him. You will use and call this child Abram. So sixteen is all about the fact that the birth is given of Ishmael, and this is before Isaac. So, folks, as we look at this and we break it down, know, these are messages we pull out of it. you know, they call him a a wild man, they call him a wild donkey. he was born talking about Ishmael, he was born in Mamre, Eleven years after the arrival of getting into Canaan. So they're in the promised land. At the age of thirteen, he was circumcised and he grew up Up as a true child of the desert, wild and wayward. Do you have a wild and wayward child? We all seem to have one at some point or another. However, remember that the sins of the child can't go on to the parent. So it's nothing that you did that created that. God has his own purpose for things. so the law was paraph parathetical because of the transgression. many sins. Having been ordained through the angels by the agency of who? The mediator, of the meteor, until the seed would come through the whole through whom the promise had been made. From an inspirational standpoint, God sees the afflictions of our lives, folks. The angel of the Lord, which some would call a theophany. The burning bush is a theophany, it's a picture of God, first appears to the woman as a slave. Grace operates in the patriarch's failure. So they're the patriarchs. Think about it. You mean Adam and Eve, they were patriarchs. Sarai and Abram are patriarchs. They'll be Sarah and it'll be Abraham once they get to the point of full belief with God. We'll see that later as we go through gener gen Genesis. So Hagar, the Only slave elem elevated to a patriarchal wife. So You know, she is I wanna say she's not Hebrew. Syrian maybe. Egyptian. She was Egyptian, I think. And Yeah, so she becomes one of the patriarchs because she has Ishmael and she names God El Ro all Ro I. So it's spelled R O I. And then the application here on this chapter is something that we should all think about. It's number one, walk by faith in the finished work and not by the culture short shortcuts, or any of these fleshly s sh schemes. To help God. You're not helping God by bringing in your fleshly schemes to make something happen. You're you are to rely on God with faith. Ishmael's line still conflicts with the covenant people, they are still in conflict with Israel. And it goes today. hasn't changed in all these years. So wait on the Lord's timing. He sees every affliction and remains. Faithful to his word. So he's not going to leave you, folks. And don't try to fulfill God's promises by your own plan. Walk by faith. Wait on him because he sees you. Folks, Chaplain Dean Alley, I had a moment. Take care. Love you. Bye.
