Dr Dean Alley, PhD: All right, Chaplain Dean Alley here. I had a moment. I hope you're doing well. My day is almost over the last few minutes. But, anyways, I thought I would bring 44 and 45 to you. I'm gonna go in succession here and then read through this and kind of dissect it as we go, but only because I'm trying to pick up the pace on these two chapters. We are really getting close, folks, to finishing up. I hope this has been a good study and I hope that this blesses you in a great way. And again, I'm I'm hoping that this is a blessing for you. So let's let's do something here. Let me Alright, I am gonna jump in. I hope you're doing good. It's nice weather out there. Alright, so this is the part where we know that Joseph he's gonna confront his brothers, right? Well, up to this point, he's been putting them through the paces. he starts to test his brothers, these two chapters, and especially he plants that silver cup in Benjamin's sack, obviously, to make the brothers look bad, and they refused to abandon him. So Judah confesses. guilt before God and we see a substitution or a substitute to serve as a clear for him anyways for here a a clear type of Yeshua dealings with us so looking at how God has dealt with these these sons of Jacob and how God deals with us today these could be something that we could tie into our life so he he Takes something and he puts them through the paces. And he, you know, he's telling his dad, hey, you know, you can kill my two kids if I don't bring Benjamin back. he is now being kind of persecuted through God and using natural causes here. And it exposes his sin. It demands a a personal responsibility from him, and it it provides mercy through a willingness to substitute. So Nothing is hidden from our true master. That's something we need to take right off the top. So who is equal to the Father yet distinct and subservient? And so when we approach God through Christ's finished work, we know owning our sin fully. You have to be humble and you have to be able to say, you know, Lord, I need you, I need you to help me with this, or I'm having an issue. There is not a person on this planet don't need Jesus. Trust me, I've met a lot of big personalities who say, Nope, I don't need him. I got it all figured out. I am my own master. And unfortunately, that is some of the people with a type personalities, you see that a lot. So when we are looking at the finished work of Christ and owning our sin, intersay in interceding for others in prayer and refusing to abandon the fellow believer. So when we do intercessory prayer for somebody and we are asked to pray for him, we are in retrospect, we are refusing to abandon our fellow man or person in this prayer. So Joseph he finally reveals himself through these chapters, he starts to weep, he's got tons of emotion, he's he's forgived, he he he goes to the point where he tells he brings his family to prepare the land of Goshen. And charging them not to qual in the quarrel in the pictures of how God takes evil for good. What do I mean? He started out pretty tough. He was in a rough spot, right? He went, you know, he threw him in a hole, they sold him to you know, the Gentiles and to the Arabs, and then the Arabs sold him to Potiphar. Potiphar, he goes to jail. It's a whole s whole host of things that we look at. in these chapters, but we see where God takes evil which they performed on him and turns it for the good. And what has Joseph become? You know, they would say, you know, we could look at that Joseph had being some kind of archetype or a type or a pattern of Christ in his finished work. We could say, you know what? And he even says it. He says, for what you made to be bad for me ended up being being good. And He welcomes the repent. He calls his people to the oneness of the heart in Christ and as and awaits the place that he has prepared. So let's jump into it. I'm going to read through these. And verse chapter 44, verse 1. And the word of God says, not Dean Anley. A lot of people like to think I'm doing it. It's not me. I'm I'm simply slowly going through these chapters. dissecting them and pulling things out. And he commanded the steward of the house, saying, Fill the men's sack with food, as much as they can carry, and put every man's money, essentially, in his sack. So put it back. And we what do we see here? We see and put the cup of silver in the sack of the mouth of the youngest and his co his corn and his money. And he did not he did according to the word of Joseph, this is a servant of his, that Joseph had spoken. As soon as the morning was light, the men sent away they were sent away, they and their asses, and when they were gone out of the city and yet yet far away, not far away, excuse me, far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men. And when thou doest overtake them, and thou and say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good? And it is not Is not this it in which my Lord drinketh, and whereby indeed he divineth, you have done evil in doing so. So he's being charged. So we see just in these first five verses here. Joseph's willing to test the strengths of his family. He's willing to put them through the paces. Joseph's brothers' sacks were filled with grain, and their money was returned, and Joseph placed a test by putting his silver cup. They had their own cups, I'm assuming, and Joseph sent away his brothers and sent them on their way, and then he ordered the stewards to go overtake them. So this was all planned. And then he was to say. to ask w ask him why had you returned evil for good to to charge them with stealing this special cup used for the drinking and the divination of Joseph verse six and he overtook them and he spake unto these same words and it said unto him Wherefore saith the Lord that these words God forbade forbid for the servants should do according to this thing. Behold, the money which is found in your sacks, your sacks mouths were brought against thee out of the land of Canaan, and how then should we steal out of the Lord's house for the silver and the gold? With whomsoever of the servants it is found, both let him die, and we also will be my Lord's bondsmen. And he said, Now also let it Let it be according to your words, he with whom is to be found as my servant, and he shall be blameless. They then they then they speedily took down every man of his sacks to the ground and opened him in the sack. So there they're saying, Look, we don't have it. And he searched and he began with the eldest and left the left the youngest to be, I'm assuming, last, and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack. So the brothers were willing to stand by their family. They had a strong charge. They're like, I didn't we didn't steal anything. And then we see where the strong declaration is of innocence. Hey, we didn't do anything. The brothers declared their honesty. They had returned the money that they found in the sacks from the first trip. So why would they steal silver and gold? That's what the in their mind. The the brothers declared their willingness to stand together as a family. And Strong proposal, let their testimonies be proven, but only the guilty would be returned to Egypt and enslaved. The brothers' testimonies, which checked out their cargo their cargo, was searched, and the brothers' testimony failed, and the cup was found where? In Benjamin sack. So let's pick it up in thirteen. So then they rent their clothes. So that's kind of what they did when they were like mad, they ripped their clothes or whatever. It was their way of showing sorrow in the situation. And they rent their clothes and laden every man his ass and returned to the city. So they put everything back on and headed back to the city. And Judah and his brethren came to Joseph's house for where for he was there, and they fell before him on it on the ground. So now they're worshiping. And Joseph said unto them, What did what deed is this that you have done? What what ye not That such a man I can certainly divine, I'm divine, certainly divine. And Judah said, What shall we say unto the Lord? What shall we speak? Or how shall we be clear ourselves? God hath found our inquir inquiry of thy servants. Behold, we were we are my Lord's servants, but we and he also with whom the cup is found. So we're we're with Benjamin, one one and for all. And he said, God forbid that I should do this, but the man in whose hand the cup is found, he shall be my servant. And as for you, you will get up out of get up. In peace unto your father, and Judah came near him and said, O my Lord, let the servant I pray thee, speak a word in my Lord's ear, and let not thine thy servant, for thou art my pharaoh. My Lord asked his servant, saying, Have ye father or brother? And we say unto the Lord, We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, and a little one. And his brother is dead, and alone is the left his mother, and his father loveth him. And they said unto him, Bring or or saith unto him, Thy servants, bring him down unto me, and I may set mine eyes upon him. And we said unto him, My Lord, the lad cannot leave the father, for if he leaves the father, the father will die. So if we take him, our dad's gonna be in rough shape. He's not gonna take this word very well. And they say saith unto the servants, Except your younger brother come down with you, you shall see my face no more. And if and it came to pass when it came unto the thy servants of their father, we told him the words of my Lord, and the father said, Go again and buy us a little food. And we said, We cannot go down if our younger brother is not with us. Then We will go down, for we may not see the man's face except our younger brother be with us. So let's just preface. So the brothers were willing to seek forgiveness for the entire family. So they're they're all in. And it shows a strong act of the brothers, and it also shows the humility. So they were charged with the wrongdoing, they were charged with ignorance and and and of divine power. they also were glorious in the conversation and proved loyalty as Judah spoke for her. so God uncovered their sins, all stood together and sought forgiveness. You remember Judah was the the the stinker here, right? He was the worst of them all. And they were tested. So Judah was willing to sacrifice himself for his family. He laid it out there. So we see that how they are asking forgiveness. Okay. And verse twenty-seven, and thy father or thy servant, my father, said unto us, Ye know that my wife bear me two sons, and the one went out from me, and I said, Surely he is torn in pieces. I saw him not since, talking about Joseph. And if ye take this also from me, and mischief befall him, ye shall bring me down. gray hairs of sorrow to the grave. So basically I'm going to go to my grave this way. Now therefore I came to thy servant, my father, and he and the lad be not with us, seeing that his life being bound in the lad lad's life, it shall come to pass when we shall see the lad not with us, and he will die, and this and thy servant shall bring down the gray hairs of their thy fa their servant, our father, with those sorrows and sorrows to the grave. And thy servants began surety that for the lad unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto thee, then I shall bear the blame my father forever. Now therefore I pray thee, let thy servant abide instead of the lad, a a bondsman, to the Lord, or to my Lord, and let the lad go up with his brethren, for how shall I go up to my father if the lad not be with me? Lest prevent your perhaps the evil shall come upon my father. So he's he's he's pleading at the same time, what are we learning? We're learning that he starts showing humility and the circumstances have changed the way that they are viewing this whole thing With Joseph. And you know, you gotta ask yourself, I mean, what kind of sacrifices are we willing to do for our fellow Christians and for our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ? Let's pick up 45, and Joseph reveals himself to his brother. This is the the the the revealing in verse one the word of God says, then Joseph. could not refrain himself before all of them, and stood by him, and he cried, caused every man to go out from me, and there stood no man with him, while Joseph made himself known unto his brothers, and he wept aloud, and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh had heard it. So he's he's crying. It's happy tears. And Joseph said unto his brothers, I am Joseph, doth my father yet live? And the brothers could not answer him, They were troubled in his presence. So they're like dumbfounded. They're like Joseph? So yeah, that's like seeing a ghost, right? So Joseph faced his brothers that had heard him, and he could not control himself and his emotions anymore. He had to let it out. He cleared out all the servants and he faced his brothers by himself or alone. And then we learn that he broke and wept aloud, and he identified himself, and the brothers were just terrorized and they were shocked. And then verse 4, Joseph said unto the brethren, Come near to me, I pray thee. And they came near, and he said, I am Joseph, your brother, whom you sold to Egypt. Now therefore, be not grieved or angry with yourselves that ye sold me hither, for God did send before me, or before send me before you to preserve life. So he's basically saying, Look, you know, God's going to use this and I'm going to save. both you know Israel and Egypt. For these two years hath been famine in the lamb, and yet they are five years in which they shall neither be earring nor harvest. So they knew that it was going to continue with the famine. So and as and then it says and God said send before me to you posperity or posterity in earth And to slave your lives by the great deliverance. So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God. And he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and the Lord of his house and ruler throughout all the land of Egypt. Then we see Verse 9, Hast thee and go up to my father and say unto him, Thus saith the son of Joseph, God hath made me Lord over Egypt, and come down and unto me and tarry not. So what do we see? Joseph forgave his brothers essentially. This is the forgiving part. And in choosing him, God chose him, he saved the family in Israel and in Egypt. And he was exalted. And Joseph Let's pick it up at night and say, and has that go okay, and thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen. So go get our father, bring him back. I'm going to put him in Goshen. And and they shall be near unto me, that thou and thy children, and thy children's children, and thy flocks and thy herds, and all that hast, and there will I nourish thee, for yet there are five years of famine, lest thou lest thou. and thy household, and all the land, and all that thou hast has come to poverty. And behold your eyes see the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is in my mouth that speaketh unto you, and ye shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that is yet ye have seen, and ye have hast you you hast And bring down my father here. So he's saying, Go tell our dad exactly what's going on. And he fell upon his brother's neck, Benjamin, and wept, and Benjamin wept upon his neck. Moreover, he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them. And after aught that that his brothers had talked, and the famine thereof was heard in the Pharaoh's house, saying, Joseph's brothers. are come and pleased the Pharaoh well and his servants. So they were happy that all his family showing up. And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto your brothers this do ye laid your beast and go, get your unto get your get you unto the land of Canaan so get all your your flocks Take your father and your household and come unto me and I will give you the goods the good of the land of Egypt and ye shall eat off the fat of the lamb. Now thou art commanded this to do this, take your wagons and your out of the lands of Egypt, out of land of Egypt, for your little ones and for your wives, and bring your father and come. So bring all. Verse twenty and also regard not your stuff for the good of all the land of Egypt is yours. And the children of Israel did so And Joseph gave them wagons according to the commandment of Pharaoh and and gave them the provisions for the way. So here's some food and things you need. Verse twenty two and and it says to all them that each man change his raiment, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of raiment, and to his father he sent after him this manner, ten asses laden with good things of Egypt and the ten asses laden with corn and bread and meat for his father by the way, so that he sent his brothers away, they departed, and he said unto them, See that ye fall not out of the way. And they went they went up to Egypt, and came unto the land of Canaan, and Jacob was father was there. So now they're back to tell their dad. Verse twenty six, and told him hi told him sayings of Joseph is yet alive and that he is the governor over all the land of Egypt and Jacob's heart fainted for he believed them not so he was like yeah right and they told him Joseph the words of Joseph which had said unto them when you see the you saw the wagons of which Joseph had sent to carry him the spirit of Jacob their father was revived and Israel said, It is enough. Joseph, my son, is yet alive. I will go and see him before I die. So where would he get? So Joseph he shows the affection. We see this. Joseph he he bores that strong testimony of being reconciled with his brother. Then we see Joseph meets the family needs. He gives them what they need in the wagons. And then Joseph exhorts his brothers not to argue, not to blame, or put anything. Let's just not go in the past. Let's go forward. There's a message there. The the result of reconciliation to the heart and God the Father was revived and the family was reunited. So let's talk about a couple things. Let me show you a couple things. this is Joseph's divining bowl. The cup was really a bowl. That's what we would say. the seers, which are these people that forecast the future or prophecies or whatever, unlike Joseph, he employed a bowl for divining, but he kept up the appearance. So Joseph looks Semitic. But he dressed as an Egyptian fashion. It was common knowledge that the Semites were ruling over Egypt. So I think even the Pharaoh was he was not Egyptian, I think. But the death of death of the the way of the brothers, this is when the one who has Joseph's divining bull is his sack should die. So they're really putting out this, you know, if whoever has it is gonna pay the price. So the bowl is found at Benjamin Sack. And that that that you know killed all killed all males of Shechem for the rape of Did Dinah. So we see this is where There is repentance coming. this is where, you know, in Shecopah the rape of Dina. So remember they killed I think Judah was one of maybe it was Benjamin, but I can't remember right off the top of my head. But I do know Judah is out. He's not gonna be one of the the twelve tribes, Ephraim, and I know that Manasseh will be taking over the clansmen and they become Jacob's son later on. they tried to kill Joseph, and Judah ordered Tamar killed. So that was again, Judah, yeah, that's what I said. So the brothers decide to stay with Benjamin. They're not gonna let him, you know, they're not gonna let him go away. We're gonna stay with him. So Judah acts as the spokesman. So Judah confesses they are innocent of stealing the cup or the money. But they were guilty of their many wrongdoings. So they may not have, they may not have stolen the money or the cup in this lesson, but they're being humiliated and they're repenting and they're they're learning a major lesson. So Joseph is a type of a messiah. So let me say this. When I say a type of Messiah, it's a pattern. So Joseph's pattern in the book of Genesis or Barasheet is a pattern of an archetype of Christ. number one, the salvation principle, you and only you are responsible for your sins. You're not responsible for the sins of others. The other the other principle is it is useless to plead innocence to the Lord. All the hidden things are known to God. All are infested with sin. So when we say divination means a human attempt to use the power of God to discern the hidden. Often it is but a hoax. Sometimes Satan will use supply power, and at times God provides the power to see things through the prophets. So he uses prophets to speak. And you who are equal to Pharaoh. So Joseph appointed the power of By Pharaoh, so he's appointed by Pharaoh. He has the power equals of Pharaoh, but Joseph is not the Pharaoh. And the good picture of the relationship between the Father and the Son, Yeshua or Jesus. So Yeshua or Jesus wields full power and authority of the Father, and Yeshua is not the Father, he is the Word. There is oneness and an equality here, or yet there is a subservient subservient. of Yeshua to Jehovah. So the Son to God to Father. So this is a another picture of an archetype. So it's a messianic the the that that Christ in Matthew five seventeen, do not think I have come to abolish. So the Jews still study the Tanakh, just as Jesus studied the Tanakh. Folks he didn't have the complete Bible. That complete Bible didn't come around to the second century. it was still being gathered and put into I mean the It wasn't even canonized until much later. So Jesus, he will be using the Tanakh. He'll be using the Torah. And that's what he would use when he came to earth. And the rabbis saw the messianic element element of Joseph. So the Lord's prayer is part of the Sermon on the Mount in Matt Six. And we do not pray to Jesus but to the Father. And Jesus didn't pray for himself. Judah's prayer, and he's praying, it's a confession. And Joseph is perhaps the second only to the Lord's prayer, is a good example of praying to our Father, our Father, which art in heaven, right? So it's an example. So when we look at the forgiveness, 45 is all about it, right? So Judah confesses his guilt and pled for mercy. He offers his his life in the place of Benjamin. So hey, take my life, let my brother Benjamin go. So he is completely submitted. And Joseph could not contain himself and he wept the tears of joy and pain. What must Jesus have felt hanging on that cross? What did he feel? I think about this. the tears and the pains and things and the you know the the elo elo laha lama shakahana team which you know my lord my lord why have you forgiv forgiven me so joseph is the mission's completed where joseph saves israel in the physical life but jesus saves israel and us in the eternal life all who's adjoined to israel's covenants by faith in Yeshua are saved. Joseph orders then his clan to be brought to Egypt. Therefore, Jesus told his disciples to what? Feed my sheep. So when we look at a place prepared, the land of Goshen, which you can see here on green here, let me show you. Right here. You can see my Goshen. And Yeah, you could see. I mean it's not far from Israel. So Pharaoh gave Israel the best of the land to live. Joseph suggested Goshen to to Pharaoh. And of course he would know where the best is. And Goshef had beautiful pastures, perfect for grazing for the sheep, was away from the bulk of the Egyptian population, so there would be no issues there. The Egyptians considered it considered the shepherds to be a of low class. So Egyptians, it's almost like if you've ever been to Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, Saudi will not do a meaningless task. They are considered, you know, I'm gonna be a professor, teacher, pilot. I'm gonna have some some authority here and I'm gonna have a a job that means something. It's similar to this that the Egyptians were looking down on the shepherds and on the the Israel shepherds at the time. So I I could see this as a type also where I saw in person and I mean Saudis didn't build anything. They they hired people from other countries to come do it and they were I mean look like slaves to me. And Egypt is considered shepherds to be low class and Goshen allowed Israel to play to place to grow and prosper and boy did they grow and do not quarrel quarrel amongst your journeys. So Joseph sends the gifts to his father. He asks him to come to Egypt. Joseph tells his brothers Do not quarrel. He's talking about the situation. Don't get upset because it all worked out and God had a plan. So we're expected to avoid quarreling on our journey with who? God. Unity is not a million bodies and one mind. Unity is a million bodies in one heart. So about the heart. Unity is not a consensus, it is a union in Christ. Jacob finds himself, finds out that Joseph is alive and well and he's he's filled with what? Peace. I'm sure he was extremely happy. And certainly when he you know, they he's gonna come see him and he says he has to see him before he dies. So let me go here. Okay. So as we finish up chapter forty five, forty-four and forty-five, I just wanted to bring that back into focus. We're gonna go into chapter forty-six and Jacob's journey to Egypt. So it's gonna finish. let me give you a just quick thing. It's gonna go to chapter fifty and we're getting close, folks, and then we we get into Exodus, and I hope it's been a blessing. Chaplain Dean Alley, I had a moment. You take care. God bless you. Anything let me know. Love you.
