Dr. Dean Alley PhD: Alright, Chaplain Dean Alley here. I had a moment. I hope you're doing well. It's Friday, and I was able to get a day off, and thought maybe I would do a deeper dive in chapter 28 to kind of give some context of what's really going on. This is a big chapter, too, folks. you know, there's certain reasons for what is going to happen. So we're gonna actually pull twenty eight and twenty nine in together and we'll read those chapters. and I think what I'll do is I'll read twenty eight in the Hebrew Bible. Maybe I'll come back and read the King James on that. I don't know. We'll see how how how this flows. So again, I hope you're doing well. I hope I hope that God is blessing. you know, continue continue in the faith, folks. You know, that's what we're supposed to be doing. There's lot of things against us, the principalities of this world, the Antichrist, the the Satan, the demons, the so many different versions of people. that are against us that they want nothing more to silence. You know, when I think about Charlie Kirk, he was impacting people. He drew attention. So when he was drawing attention, guess what? Devil didn't like it. People were coming to him for in the thousands and they were young. So he he had to find a way for Satan or Lucifer or The devil, whoever, the adversary, whate however you want to lay it out there, but It's important that we know that when we are impacting we know that the devil does not like it and he's he he he certainly doesn't like what happens with with his with with with Christ Christ's kingdom and his people. So Alright, so this is the chapter. You guys have heard the latter, the stone. What does this mean? The unloved wife. This is where you're gonna find I think you're gonna find some you're gonna find some repercussions to Jacob because of the sin nature. Remember he did previously, he deceived his father. So we're gonna see this. I wanna just start off here and just read the I guess I'll read the Hebrew. May sound a little different. I'm gonna use a little dynamic on it, but the goal here, I guess is the word I would say, is try to get as close to what I'm trying to teach here. So so Isaac called Yokov and blessed him. Jacob and after blessing him, charged him, are you not the chosen chosen are you not to choose a wife from the Hittite? Sorry, I got scratchy throat. From Canaan. If that is a whoop moment from Canaan. He's getting instructions from his dad. Don't choose one here. Goes on to say, Go now to the house of Butel, your mother's father. And choose a wife for your daughters of Laban. Laban would be Laban. Your mother's brother. May El Shaddai bless you. Now I'm gonna I'm gonna show you something there with those first two words and what that meant in this or what it means in this context. May he bless you and you be fruitful and increase your descendants until they become a whole assembly of people, and may He give you the blessings which he gave Abram, you and your descendants with you, so that you will possess the lands you will travel through. And the land of God the land that God gave Abram. Yitzik, Isaac, Isaac, I'm using I'm I'm reading the Hebrew here. Yitzik and Yokov. Isaac and Jok and and Jacob. And he went to Pandamera to Laban. Laban would be Laban, the son of Butel, and the armory, and the brother of Refekh, Yokov. So that's that is Rebekah, and that is Jacob. So this is the mother, this is the brother of Saw's mother. So they're related. Now Esau saw That Yit had been blessed, had blessed Yokov, and sent him away to Pana to choose a wife for there, and that he blessed him, he charged him. You are not to choose a Canaanite woman as your wife. Hello. Yes, you are. Hello. Okay, yeah. I'll I know that Dr. Baker's office has been involved and and kind of re-suggested to go back through that avenue. So so those folks have been talking to the Doctor Tilheny as well. So that's that's that's good news for me. Well, great. So that no ma'am, I appreciate ya one hundred percent. Have a great weekend. it started again. Okay, maybe it did pause. All right, so maybe that's a learning for me. I just took a phone call and I was worried that I would lose some of this some of the teaching here, so I was I'm grateful that we could see this again. So it's he it it's obviously going again. So awesome, awesome, awesome. That's a good learning for me because I thought that you lose all your video and I've started many a video. So anyways that was a doctor's office, in case you were wondering. So Yitzh and Ya Yoko and they went to Panorama and Laven, the son of Butel and Amrai. And the son of Rivka, Yoko's and Esau's mother. Now Esau saw that Yika Yikah or Jacob had been blessed, blessed, and they sent him away to Panoram. And it goes on to say that from there Panoram choose a wife. So he's fully aware of what's going on from there. And he blessed him and charged him. You are not to choose a Canaanite woman for your wife. Matater. Wife is Mafatea, Mah. Okay. And Yokov had listened to his father and his mother and gone to Pandaram. Esaub also saw that the Canaan woman did not please Yakov, his father. So Esau went to Yishmirael, which is Israel, and took in addition to the wives that he already had. Melchedah, the daughter of Yeshmael. And or Y Ishmael, which is yeah. Abraham's son, the sister of Voyate to be his wife. So what is he doing? He's defying his family, he's defying what God wants him to pick a wife, always from the the from the plain, you know, different parts of Going back to Panoram and and and we'll look at that, Let me just finish here. So Yokoff or Jacob went to Beersheba and he traveled to Haran and he came to a certain place and stayed there the night because the sun had set. He took a stone from the place and he put it, put it under his head, and he lay down to sleep. And he dreamt that there before was a ladder, this is the Jacob's ladder, resting on the ground with the top reaching into the heaven. And the angels of Adonai, which is God, El Shaddai is what we're gonna learn, is why this is important, we're going up and down. So angels were going up and down this ladder. I think that ladder still exists to some degree. but anyways, and and he said, Adonai, the God of Abraham, your grandfather, and the God of Yazak, Yizak. Isaac the land which you are you are lying I will give to you and your descendants your descendants will be numerous in the grains of the dust of the earth and you will expand west and east the north to the south by you your descendants and your families on earth will be blessed look I am with you now this is a major point here folks Abraham Isaac Jacob those are the first three patriarchs that we get coming out of up to Gen Genesis twenty eight. My purpose is is to show you how we get to where we are today and what that means. But you gotta stay with me. All right, look, I will I am with you, I will guard you wherever you go, I will bring you back to this land because I won't leave you and until I have done what I have promised you. Yokov, Jacob awoke from his sleep and he said, Truly Adonai is in this place. And I didn't know it. Then he became afraid and said, This place is fearsome. This has to be the house of God, the gate of heaven. Yaakov got up early and he took. Goes on to say he took a stone he had under his head. I think this is a reference of of Jesus. It's an archetype of Jesus in the New Testament as the stone. so he he placed understanding on a stone, he pours olive oil on it. Isn't that interesting? Jesus had olive oil poured on him. Trying to show you the correlation. On its top, and he placed and l is going to be important. it means Bet is house and L means God. So this town was originally named Luz. I will be with God will g if God will be with me and will guard me on this road, I am traveling, giving me the bread to eat the clovers to wear, so that I return to my father's house in peace. And Adani will be with me, with my God and him and the stone, which I have set up in the standing. So he makes a Tabernacle or makes a reference of any and will be God's house, and everything you give me, I will faithfully return one tenth. We see Jacob leaves Beersheba as a fugitive. He's in his late seventies. He's he's he's empty-handed, he's running from Esau. Before he reaches Haran, the Lord meets him at a nameless rock pile, transfers the Arabic covenant in full and open stairway between heaven and earth. And then you see where he talks. About Aaron, as he as it gets named, the deceiver is deceived through Leah. And the unloved wife, God brings the priestly line through that line that will bring forth the Messiah. who's the un Leah is the unloved wife? Okay. who did Jacob love more? He loved Rachel. So We get the charge that Isaac. And Rebecca agreed to Jacob that he must not take that Cain and thy wife. And Isaac sends him to Panoram. We just said it was Mesopotamia. And we see it here where he says in Genesis twenty three, four, God Almighty blessed thee and make thee fruitful and multiply thee, and they mount the mayest multitude of people. And give thee the blessings of Abraham, and to thee I will send thee the with sea that thou mayest inherit whatever wherein thou art a stranger. You're gonna inherit a lot, Jacob, which God gave to Abraham. So there it's coming down the chute. So when we look closely Let's look at the blessing and the curses in the Torah. This is or in the Bible. So they are not quaint sayings. They're prophetic and their later scriptures will pick them up. We're gonna find out. Remember, everything that is in the Bible is everything that God wanted us to know. And it's a well, it's a deep well of learning. I don't know everything, but I'm trying to I I I know a lot I know enough to be dangerous, I guess, is the old adage, but I don't think of myself you'll hear me say you'll be underwhelmed mu most of the time because I don't put myself out there in any prideful prideful factor. So the blessing that Isaac gave Jacob in Genesis twenty seven, twenty seven and twenty nine, the blessing Esau thought he lost contains some Abrahamic element. Isaac was struggling in his faith. Remember, he was wanting his son, Esa Esau to get get the blessing. He was not sure which son stood before him, so he was a little leery, and he was not sure either son could carry the covenant. So he's got some doubts going. And then he either blessed half heartedly or he held back part of that rite. So when we see the word great nation. It's typically Goy. Goy is nation. and Kal Mim. This this is these are these are important. When God first promised Abraham a great nation in Genesis 212, the Hebrew word is Goy, nation. In that early setting, it meant nations of large, ready for this? Hebrew and non-Hebrew. Remember Isaac. Became the first Hebrew because the distinction had not yet been fully formed. It had not been developed. God had not shown it. Abraham produced both lines, Isaac, the son of the covenant. Ishmael with the other sons are outside that line, but Isaac likewise produced both Jacob the covenant son and Esau outside of it. So he definitely sets the pace there. But if you look at twenty eight, let's go back to twenty eight three. Let me read it back to you. And may El Shadai bless you. So it uses a different phraseology here of Cahil Amimum is means holy assembly or fellow countrymen and convo and and convocation of people from the same tribe. assembly of fellow countrymen. So it wasn't specifically he's gonna he's going to it's gonna be the whole it's gonna come down to the holy assembly which is going to be Israel. But the comic convosion convosion of the people from the same tribe. Jacob soon named Israel. He'll soon get that name Israel right it's is the first covenant line which produces only Hebrews. So when you see Israel and Jacob, that is the first line of the Hebrews and that delineates the tribes of Israel. The people Moses later calls Lord's partic peculiar treasure. If you read the Old Testament, you know you know you you know that verse. So Abraham, Hebrew and not Hebrew offspring. So it does both. Isaac has a Hebrew and a non-Hebre Hebrew offspring. Jacob has only Hebrews. The Kahal Amin, the holy. He's talking about the holy assembly of his people. All right. I hope you caught that. Now the L part, when I go back to If I go back to Genesis twelve two, let me give you what that says. I don't want to leave you hanging. This is what we call a Bible teaching. So Genesis two. I will make you a great nation, I will bless thee, I will make your name great, and you are the blessing. Here's that statement that God or El Shaddai, Adonai. makes this deal before so so the the I guess the point to that is I will I will bless you. This is where you need to think I will make you a great what? Nation, a goy. So back in Genesis 12, Goy nations, everybody together, that's that's Isaac, that's Jacob, that's Esau, that's Ishmael. I mean, it is Abraham, it's everybody. Now we get this point in in in Genesis 23 or 28, 3, where it says a different phrase. What's that different phrase? It says, Cahil. Amen. This means holy assembly. And of the fellow countrymen in the convocation of the people and the same tribes. So Jacob is soon to be named Israel. This is going to delineate this break. But back in Genesis 12, I will make you a great nation. You will you'll be in charge of a great nation. And that is that is Goy. Goy being nay nation. So I want to point that out. That was important to bring to you. That's how you figure out certain things. It makes sense to you. and then you start to learn more and more about what God wants us to do. So let's let's see. All right, so let's go back to twenty seven. one minute, where am I at twenty seven? I want to go to twenty-eight. Okay, I already read that. remember Esau, he's going to live by what? The sword. So Bethel, which Bet is house, El is God. Okay? Bet El. Sounds similar, doesn't it? Bethel. Bethel. Hmm. But the town had originally been called Lutz. So we're we're learning in 28, this is talking about where that must where our Messiah is going to be born. Betel, the house of God, but the town had been originally called Bloods. Yokov, Jacob, took this vow. I will if God will be with me, I will guard me, I will guard and guard me on this road I'm traveling, giving me bread, eat, and clothes to wear, so that I may return to my father's house in peace, then Adonai will be my God, and this stone, which I have set up as a standing stone with God's house and everything you give me I will faithfully return one tenth. Here it is, folks. There's your tithing one tenth started. It's the first mention. Speaking to who? The nations? Jacob, Israel, that time frame. What are we talking? Eighteen hundred B C right now? All right. So he has he loses the thing. All right, so I wanted to explain this. So Goyim, you heard me say Goyim. 2000 BC, Abraham's living in Earth, the word was Goyim. All nations, all people, nations. That's that's the key word at large. In 1950 BC, God declared Abraham the first what? Hebrew. Goyim, non-Hebrew nations. And then no and then non Hebrew people. So there are both non Hebrews, non nations and non Hebrew people. In eighteen fifty God changes Israel to what? Israel. She's going to be called Israel. The word Goyim, non Israelite nation, and non Israelite people. 'Cause he has Jacob has remember he's he he he loves Rachel But he wasn't as in love with Leah as much, and that paid some penalties there for him when he was sent away for to go get a wife. So he's gonna feel feel some of that, and he and God's gonna entreat him with that. And eighteen hundred BC, Jacob's father, the twelve tribes of Israel, Goyim is again non-Israelite nation, non-Israelite people. Whoop. And that's the 12 tribes. So we were identifying in 1800 BC the 12 tribes. And 500 BC the Jews tribe of Judah returned from Babylon. Non-Jewish nation, non-Jewish people. Okay. Notice how everybody is intertwined. And then God's gonna come in. He's gonna come in and essentially you're gonna see where He is going to give that Kalhe Cahal Amin, the holy Kaha. whole it it depends on how how you say that, but Cajal would be one of the The holy people were set apart, and it'll be only Jews. And we're gonna see in nine and then that's at fifty five hundred BC. So Jews, the tri the Jews are are the tribe of Judah, and they returned from Babylon, mo modern day Iraq, Babylon, and in nineteen forty eight, the Jews are remnant all the way to today, return where to the holy land. Now you've heard me say it before. I wanna say that the stats I've seen and read is ninety percent of the Jews, the tribe of Judah are returned, or Jews in general, remnant is returned to Israel. Ninety percent. I would I would venture to say back when they were being, you know, the temple, I'm not the temple, but even before that, they were always driven out by different nations, you know, Babylons, Israel, Assyrians. Assyrians are from Esau. Okay. And so we see the word again here, Goyom, and now it changes to all nations except Israel. Goyim is now changed to nations, and it excepts the except the Israel people, the Gentiles and non-Jew, non-Jews. So all nations except Israel, Gentiles and all Jews. Until this distinction, Isaac was born, there was no distinction between the Hebrew and the non-Hebrew. That's what I'm trying to make. For The distinction is made between Isaac and Ishmael. So we're starting to see this. It's not more it's not a racial thing like the West, like we would in the United States. Think of it's about culture. And it's about clans and tribes and things and people distant the tribe of Judah, tribe of the it's not around, hey, he's black, he's white. It's none of that. That that is the racial thing of the West. all created, I think, from people that wanted wanted it back in the Civil War. So this is the first distinction between Isaac and Israel. Kahal Amin, the holy convict of the fellow countrymen. Jacob will only produce the the Jews the the Hebrews now. So now it's a set of people. Okay. So Esau watched Isaac send away his Canaite wife, Cana Jacob away because Canaite wives displeased his father. So Isaac sent Jacob away. He didn't want him to be with the Canaanite wives to displease his father. Esau had already taken two Canaanites. As a matter of fact, he said Hittites. He takes a daughter of Ishmael. Does that ring a bell? Ishmael and And the third is his is his third wife and We see this in twenty eight six. Now Esau saw that Yik Yazak, Yitzik, had blessed Yokov and sent him away to Panoram to choose a wife from there, and he had blessed him to charge. You are not to choose a a Canaanite woman as your wife, or Met or Mafar, or Matar they call it. So he did it out of spite. And then it shows in short that the results are Two disposed firstborns, Ishmael and Esau. They're gonna join together now in marriage. So you got East Ishmael and Esau. You remember Ishmael was blessed with nations. And Esau is going to partner up with that and join in the marriage side. So now these are two, this would be part of the Arab nations. Both were set aside for the covenant line, their houses became lasting, and opposition to Israel. There's a few words in verse nine that sets the course of history that will never reverse itself. Let me go back to nine and read that to you. Verse nine so Esau went to Yishmael and took, in addition to the wives he already had, Mala Mala, the daughter of Yishmael, Abraham's son, And the sister of Nevat to be his wife. That is going to set in motion. The dichotomy between Israel and ultimately the Arabs and there's many different Arab nations out there. a lot of the Esau descendants went to Turkey, you know. also when we see the Philistines later on, And twenty eight, so we look at fourteen, your descendants will be numerous grains of sun. This is the part where the first declaration, which was in twelve three, Adonine or God had promised to make Avra Abram the descendants of Israel's blessing to the entire for the entire world. it shows this in a unique way. Rather than affirming a special relationship between God and the Jews, the crusades, the pogroms, the Nazis, the Hamas. Hezbollah and others have deemed Israel to be devalued to Jewish and the world. Nations have sought to destroy these people. God's hand has been visibly on them, most notably their contributions to humankind. Apart from the writers of the Bible, they they wrote the Bible, folks, most of it, and in enormous contributions to respective fields. For example, Albert Einstein, he developed what? Relative theory. Jonas Salk, he created the first polio vaccine. These are contributions to mankind. And Barak or Baruch Blumafield discovered the orange origin and spread of infectious diseases. Countless number of Jewish scientists, philanthropists, entertainments, musicians have. contributed to the world. So in light of the fact that Jews basically they compromise of like point two percent of the world's population, the sheer enormity of their contribution staggers people and it should. And that that that's again, these I mean people are trying to draw a line between the Palestinians, the Arab nations, and Israel. Well you're not doing anything new. It's all it's all been there. But these these these Jewish nations or these Israel Jews continue to contribute. in their contributions. So even the Nobel Peace Priest Peace Prize from nineteen one to two thousand seven twenty two percent of Jewish received them likewise seven hundred and fifty prize Nobel Prize winners through two thousand seven Jews were awarded thirteen percent of all La Rat La Rats which are awards in literature literature. Twenty-six percent in physics, forty-one percent in economics, two percent in the medicine, nineteen percent in chemistry, and humer human Humanitarian efforts of peace, clearly apart from the gift of the Messiah. These are outside of what Messiah does for us. God keeps the promise of the blessing to the world in countless ways through the people that He has chosen. You can see more of that in Isaiah, but it's important folks. Listen. All right. So Esau's problem was never lack of energy. It was the lack of his spiritual sight. He tried to fix a spiritual offense with another fleshly offense. So Esau marries those two Canaanite wives. He marries the daughter of Ishmael in the attempt to please his father, Isaac. That didn't please him. intermarried between the families of Esau and Ishmael today, form the most Islamic world. Period. So I wanted to give you a little map here. So El Bethel, right here, and then Beersheba is right here. These are the two. Notice Amon. These are gonna be the Mobadites and this Edom is down here. See? See this area down here Yeah, so you see how rocky it is down in here. This is where he sends him. This is where he goes. This is where I think the King James gets it wrong here, and many other Bibles get it wrong when they start when they said that he was giving the plush. See the green? That's plush, that's where Israel is and that's the promised land. He was given none of that. So you see Edom, Mobites, Ammon, And this whole thing, Bashan, all the way to King of Og, all the way up into Turkey. This gets ugly because that basically divides Israel and a lot of the Arab nations. And we see this. All right, so let's just talk about let's let me read 29 and then we're gonna get into some more breakouts here. So continuing his journey, Yokoh came to the land of the people of East as he looked. He saw well in the fields. And there were the three flocks laying there next to it. Because the water in the sheep for formed the well, the stone of the wall was large. And only when the flocks of the flocks had gathered there would they roll the stone back from the opening and the well water to the sheep. So they would water them usually in the evening, wait for everybody would gather around the water hole. And he they would roll a stone back so everybody could have and they would obviously pay whatever price it was for the water for their flocks. That was usually done once a day or in the evening time. So And then and the flocks are gathered, they would roll the stone away from the opening of the well and the water to the sheep and give it to them. then they would give they would put the stone back in place on the well's opening so they would close it. Yokoff, Jacob, said to them, My brothers, where are you from? They answered, We're from Haran. Immediately he he's paying attention now because that's his people. He asked them, Do you know Laban, the grandson of Nakor? They said, We do. He answered him them and things are things going well with him. Yes, they answered. And here is and here comes his daughter comes th his daughter, Rachel, with sheep. So she obviously was a sheep bearer too. He said, Look, there's still plenty of daylight left, and it isn't time to bring the animals home yet. So water the sheep, then go put them out to pasture. They said, We cannot until the all the flocks have gathered together and roll the stone away from the opening, and then the water will for the sheep. So they couldn't really do anything until all the flocks were there and they were waiting on obviously Rachel with her her her flock and it wasn't time yet. Came with her father's sheep because she took care of them, and Yokov saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban, the mother brother of the sheep of Laban, his mother's brother, Yokov, Jacob, went up and rolled the stone away from the opening of the well, and the water flowed to the flock of Laban, his mother's brother. Yokov kissed Rachel and wept aloud. Yokov told Rachel. that he he was her fa her her father's relative. And he was Rivka or R Rivka, which is his mom. And she ran and told her father, Laban heard the news of Yokov, his sister's son, and he ran to meet him, and he hugged him, and he kissed him, and he brought him into the house. And Yokov told Laban all that had happened. Laban said to him, You are indeed my flesh and blood. Yokov stayed with him for a month. Laban said unto him, Why should you work for me for nothing? Just because you have a you are my relative, tell me how much should I pay you? Now Laman had two daughters, the name of the older was Leah. Better to give her to you than someone else. Or excuse excuse me. Skipped it. So the older was Leah and the younger was Rachel. Leah's eyes were weak, and Rachel's was good looking with beautiful features. Yokov had fallen in love with Rachel and said, I will work for you seven years in exchange for Rachel, your younger daughter. Laban answered, better that I give her to you than to someone else to stay with me. So Yokov worked seven years for Rachel and it seemed like days to him because he was in love. And he was so much in love with him, so it just flew by. And Yokov, Jacob, said to Laban, Give me my wife, since my time finished, so that I may start to live with living with her. Laban gathered all the men in the place in the banquet in the evening and took Leah, his daughter, and brought her to Yokov, and he went unto her and slept with her. Laban gave his slave girl Zilpah to the daughter of Leah. Her slave girl. And in the morning, Yokoff saw that he was with Leah, so he was church. And he said to Laban, What kind of thing have you done to done unto me? Didn't I work for you for Leah, for Rachel, excuse me, which have the daughter of the firstborn? Finish the marriage week of this one, and we will give you another one in exchange for the work that you will do. for me during yet another seven years. So now he's being he was tricked. He had to pay the price, he paid seven years, now he got paid again. This is this is how God allowed this because of his sinful natures back in, you know, the lying and all the deceiving. To me, he's seventy when he gets there. Now he's eighty four. By the time he gets to Rachel. In our place this is how we stun we give the younger daughter before the firstborn, finish my marriage week of this one, and will give you one in exchange. for you will work for me during another seven years. And Jacob agreed and said, So he finished the the week with Laban. He gave his daughter to Rachel, gave him a his daughter, Rachel, as his wife. Laban also gave his daughter Rachel a slave girl, Bella, Bila. And her slave girl, you're gonna hear about her Billa, about how he gr he grows his his people. And Slave girl, so that Yokov to go in and sleep with Rachel, but he also loved Rachel more than he loved Leo. And he served Laban yet another seven years. So we get the the the sense here. he's he's doing what he's supposed to do. And there's that picture of him laying on the rock. He anoints the rock, who's the rock, archetype of Christ in the New Testament, the stairway to Heaven, you've heard it before, it's not a song. it is a song, but it's not the the one that's in the in the Bible. that people come and go. I think it's it's still present today in my my thoughts. So let me just finish here. And I and I And then God saw Leah was unloved. Now he's getting you gotta remember now. So what is Jacob doing? Yokov, what is he doing? He's not loving his wife. He's not he's not in love. He's not loving her. He's probably giving her the cold shoulder, like whatever. God wasn't happy with that. Saw that she was unloved, so he made her fertile. While Rachel remained childless, Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, who she named Reuben, which that's in the Reuben is Reuben, is you see the sons. That's the first son that is given. For she said, It is because Adnan I has seen how humiliated I've been by now as the wife. Or now by my husband, what maybe he'll love me. So she she's thinking I'll have a ki I'll have another baby, they'll love me. Doesn't that happen today? Women always try to get pregnant and they think automatically they'll marry me. Folks, that happened that was happening in eighteen hundred BC. Nothing new there. All right. okay, so she could okay, so then And now and maybe my husband will now love me. She she conceives again. So Leah conceives in birth to the son and says it's because that him calls him shimon, which Shimon is Simon, and which means hearing. Everything has a a purpose to it. Every everything is is I I don't want to use play on words, but it it connects as word that's what I would use, connect. Once more she conceived and she had a son, and said, Now this. Named Levi. Levi meaning joining. So Levi's gonna become one of the priests, head of the priests. She conceives again and has a son this time. I will praise Adnai, therefore she shall name him Yoda, Yoda, which is Judah, which means what? Praise. Then she stops and having children. So we see. Simon means herring. We see Levi means joining, and we say Yuda means praise. And what's important here, folks, God was dealing with Jacob. Right? He was dealing with Jacob because she was because he was not loving Leah. She was he was produced these these children are gonna be powerful tribes of Israel. Alright, so So Esau Bethel the stairway in the name. So Jacob leaves Beersheba. This is again I'm talking Bersheba leaves Bethel. here Jacob separates the identity as a third patriarch. So he's now the third. Remember I said that earlier. And Jacob's vision sees the spiritual world. So forty miles out, the rocky place was known had no name, and he must leave the land. His father's mother, his brother, for God to deal with him and be dealt with. This is this is the Bethel story. And with Abraham the dream. So in 28, 12, and he dreamed, and behold, or look, a ladder set up on the earth. Here's the ladder. Giving you an analogy is probably better than that. Ladder set up on top to reach heaven, and behold, the angels of the Lord. Ascending and descending on it. Behold, the Lord stood above it and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham, thy father, and the God of Isaac. And the messengers are Malach, which means Elah Elohim, the heavenly angels received orders to carry them out on earth. In verse 13, the Hebrew word is used Yahweh. Yahweh meaning YHWH Yahweh, the personal name. but L, you see L in the first part of First part of the Bible in Genesis, we give you an example. Well these don't carry out. Protestant Bibles don't really sh carry out the L part, but L meaning God, basically. The same meaning. Again, these are we're talking about cultural names and that time frame. So this is the father speaking to Jo Jacob and he knows it. Isaac had blessed Jacob earlier. Now Yahweh validates that blessing, but he gives him lands, he gives him the seed, blessings, and all the fa families of the earth. And the word I am with thee. I will not leave thee. So we get the sense that God's staying close until I have done which I have spoken. And this in Genesis you heard Genesis fifteen and twenty eight clearly says it. Let me re let me remind you. Levin said Laban said to him, Why should you work for me for nothing just because you're my relative? Tell me how much should I pay you? And that's The play on words of pay, right? So it validates what he's getting paid. He's getting paid the patriarch. So the latter as a type in Genesis 1, we watch that God moved his dwelling. Where'd he move it from? He moved it from heaven down to where? Eden, right? Eden's down. Heaven. See he's sleeping. There's the temple. The ladder represents connection between God and man. That's what it stands for. John 1:15 says, And truly he said, Truly, truly I say unto you, shall you see the heavens open and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man? So this is giving you that that archetype and giving you the representation with the connection of man and God. And I think that is still prevalent. Today, I think that's gone away. I think he still protects people. So he's moved from heaven, he's moved into Eden, then man, then Eden with man, and then back to heaven after the fall. So he's down, back, and up. The stairway is connected. that sin is broke. So that answers that question. So if they're sinning, which they were. he closed that staircase or the stairwell. God is sending ministers and angels later in the wilderness, the tabernacle and Would say with will be with another place. Later still the latter comes. So it'll come again. Why? First John 1 151. Verily, verily, I say unto you, verily, verily, is truthfully, truthfully. I say unto you, hereafter you shall see heaven open and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man. So you saw back here, you this is part of what we now know in the New Testament. So without Genesis 28, John 151 is kind of an odd sentence because with Genesis 28, it is a fulfillment. Yeshua is the only ladder that can reconnects God to man. Angels will ascend from it and descend upon him now. So Jacob names the place Bethel, the house of God. So where that rock is, where the the stairway to heaven, he names that place Bethel. Who later to be Bethlehem, I'm sure. Is is where Jesus is born. God is known chiefly by titles built on El Shaddai. So before Sinai, before Moses and the Ten Commandments, and all of those things that after the Exodus, God is known as El. El Shaddai. and others and after Sinai the name is Yah Yahweh comes front and the older title is used in language and it recedes so we see Yahweh utilized even today. So the anointed stone in tithe let me bring this to your attention. Jacob takes that stone with his pillow right down here uses as his pillow he sets it up as a pillow and he pours oil on it And anointing with oil marks the agreement that is already old by about eighteen hundred BC, standing stones of memorial were common. Anointing a memorial stone is not. So these are stones. The Messiah means what? The anointed one, folks. Scripture later calls Messiah what? A rock. The New Testament in Hebrew, as the old, the figure of rock does not start in the gospel. It it reaches back at least to the night when they were fleeing, when a when a fleeing man, Jacob, on was anointed the stone which he had right rested his head on. It's all the way back eighteen hundred years. So it's not The rock, know, all started in New Testament, Peter and all that. No, that started long before that. The rock in the archetype here, let's show you know, Peter would say, Well, Petra means rock. Okay. And then Christ says, I'm gonna build my house upon the rock. What does that mean? That doesn't mean on Peter, on himself. Christ is the rock. That's that's the point. Some people will say something different. They'll say, Well, Petra's the rock and he's the one that Christ is gonna build the church and everything on it. That's not the case, folks. My in my reading of this, and if I'm wrong, fact check me. So it reaches back to the night, and then we see that Jacob vows the alliance and a tenth of all that God gives them. The tenth appears here long before Sinai as a response to the what? The grace already shown. So people say, Well, you know, the tenth, the tenth, we you know, God has the tenth, and the tent we gotta we gotta tie the tenth. We see the first time, first mention here with Jacob with the anointing. So Heron in the well, let me talk about this well. This is the El Bethel is the house of God. El God has not yet given his personal name. So we didn't have Yahweh at the at this point. The anointing stone with the oil indicating a vow as a new part of a what? New covenant. And a link between this rock and who? The Messiah. The anointed one. This rock was anointed. Alright. So So Haran, the well in the kiss and the clam. Let's talk about this a little bit. Jacob left left Bathsheba. He was agitated. He was guilty. He was afraid. After Bethel, he walks with Shalom with peace that he did not have manufacture. So I want you to think about what we're talking about here. Prior to that dream. And that staircase and that stairwell and that anointing of the rock of the Messiah, which is an archetype of of what's going on of what he's gonna be built on. Afterwards we see what he now has what they call shalom. He has peace. He's he's not he's not all jazzed up. So he manufactured that, so he had some settlements, he was settled. So Haran Is about 400 miles from the southern part of Canaan. Abraham, his family still live there. Eliai Eliazar had come with the camel gifts, and Jacob arrived with his clothes on his back. He finds the well with three flocks waiting. You remember we were reading this. A great stone covers the mouth to keep the water clean and keep the strangers from drawing without the owner's leave. So when the owner leaves, you can't withdraw from that. And the shepherds wait in the evening when the owner rolls the stone. And what does he do? He collects a fee at this point. Jacob rolls the stone himself, so the shepherds will water and leave. And he can speak with the family. Rachel arrives, his cousin, Laban. Now I know you guys back in those days, cousins, kissing cousins, and all that may be a little different today. But back then it was pretty norther. So his cousin, Laban's daughter, a shepherdess. So there were women shepherds. Some, and that's in twenty-nine. Let me find twenty. Laban the son of Nahor. Five, I think. Yeah. He asked him, do you know Laban? Laban, the grandson of Nechor. Yeah. Nachal. Nach Nachal. I tried to do the guttural thing there. I need some practice. All right, so some call it a contradiction. Earlier chapters call Laban the son of Bethel, of Bethel. Nahor is is Laban's grandfather. The son often names the clan, not the immediate father. So typically it's the son. The writer expects these are cultural things, folks, and the writer expects the reader to know that Nahor is Abraham's brother and Laban is his grandson. This is the identity speech of the age and it's not an error. So we see this. So Jacob encounters with God, his spirits. We see the Mesopotamia connection. See, this is all connected with an ancestral connection of Israel. All right, right in here, with Shiva, Aaron. This is all part of Mesopotamia and Israel. Jacob goes back to the same place Eliezer found his father Isaac a wife. So Eliezer was who? Remember we talked about it? He was the head servant of Isaac and he went to find a wife and for Isaac. And he ended up going to where? Haran. And found his wife. And then Jacob arrived with nothing. So He didn't have a wife. So there's a four hundred mile journey right there. I would have to find out how long that takes back in that time. But I'm I don't know, it's gotta take more than a day or so. So what do we learn? The deceiver is deceived. Laban received Jacob after a month. He asked, What shall life wages be? That question means that Jacob is no longer a guest. Now he's at a point I gotta pay you. You're not that that gives us a sense that you need to get paid because you're not my guest. Jacob offers seven years for Rachel. The daughter, the daughters later say their father sold them. We'll see that play on words in Genesis thirty-one. That was not that was not the honorable custom. Seven years passed after the wedding. Feast and Laban puts Rachel, Leah, in Rachel's place. Jacob tastes the fruit of deceit. In the same word, the family of deceit, deception, family of deceptions is marked in 27, which now marks 29 as a measure for measure. So it's kind of getting a payback. Okay, you want to deceive in 27, you're going to pay it back in 29. So he receives Rachel after a A seven day feast exchange for seven more years. we received after another excuse me, seven years of feast, seven day feast. I thought they were ten days, but maybe seven, in exchange for seven more years. so the man nearly eighty years old has two wives and an open prophets. So Leah's tender eyes and Rachel's Rachel's beauty beauties are The text of the context of what we saw here. So you have tender eyes and beauty. Jacob chooses by sight. He loves Rachel because she looks pretty. There's no record that he asked the Lord for the direction here. The irony is exact. God passes over Esau, the firstborn hunter, for Jacob, the choir to Shawn. God will pass over Rachel. To choose to to choose the beauty for Leah. So Leah's passed over for Leah. The unloved wife as the mother of the priestly in the royal line. So she was not loved, but guess what? She bore these children of Jacob. Alright. So here's the well he's talking about. Well were not publicly owned, they're privately owned. But they were getting some form of payment. They became a meeting place for the count country folks. We've talked about this before. A lot of the women came and got that. maybe some of the men back here in the tree, they're all waiting around with their flocks for the owner to come and for them to open the well. And well owners collected small fees or some type of fee for the use of the water. So there's some profitable things going on there. We see Jacob, he rolls the rock off the well, he greets Rachel with a kiss. It's not a sexual, it's just the custom. Rachel is a shepherdess, which is unusual. I call that out because it's important. Yes No. Laban is Rachel's father. Versus verses five is where we see that. And then we learn the son of Nahor. Actually, Laban was the son of Buthel. Nahor was the clan. So Nahor is a clan. Remember, when these groups of people got together, like when they say the tribe of Judah, there were clans around them. So there's lots of people. And they were used to help each other. It's almost like the Amish. Amish would help go help build a building or whatever. Same way with the clans, they stuck together and supported each other. Sometimes the son of is referred to the clan, not the person's actual father. So I want to point that out to you. So Laban, he becomes the deceiver, right? He starts to deceive him. He accepts the seven years of servitude for Jacob's right to marry Rachel. Not unusual. Are we not counted as strangers for he has sold us? Think about it. And direct connection between Jacob's deception to his father and Laban's deception to Jacob. Turn about fair play. He gets that. So seven more years of servitude. Then after the seven-day wedding and the ceremony with Leah, Jacob also marries Rachel. Jacob is now in his 80s, folks. I don't know about you. Man, they must have been in really good shape. Where they have kids? Jacob favors Rachel. Eyes were weak equals the idiom for plain. So her eyes were weak. That means she was just a plain Jane. She wasn't pretty, is what they would say. Jacob preferred the beauty of Rachel. But Leah gives Jacob sons and let's just talk about those. Rachel cannot seem to get pregnant. Leah gives Jacob his first four children. Okay? Reuben means sees a son or look at a son. The Lord has looked on my affliction. This is kind of a walk, let's walk through how these names mean something. Okay? Simon heard. The Lord has heard that I am, or heard that I am hated. So hearing is being used here. Levi means joined. Now my husband will join me. Maybe now after my third baby, you'll love me and join me. And then Judah means praise. Now will I praise the Lord. So that's important to point those out. Levi would become a God, God set apart servant and priest in the future. We get through the later parts of the Hebrew or the Genesis here. And Judah would produce the Jews and eventually the Yeshua, right? The Messiah, the anointed one. Are you are you getting some color of this the Bible now? Is it coming together? Just a little. So Leah gives God the glory in all those names. Okay. And the character shows that God honors it. And Leah, from Leah, we see Levi. That's an honor. He's gonna be the head priest. Increasingly line in Judah, the line of the promise. Yeshua is a Judahite. We called Yesu, Judah's descendants Jews. Okay. Teachable moment. Judah and their descendants are Jews. Okay? That's where you have to kind of keep that in. It doesn't mean, I mean, Reuben is not an Israelite or he is not Hebrew. He's an I he's an Israel he's he's Ru Ru Reuben. You know, I'm I'm just trying to say that Judah would produce the Jews. Levi would pr would would would set up the priests and the servants and all of the worshiping of God. So We see that that's given in Yushua the Judah Judah and Jehu and Joda and we call Judah the descendants of Jews. So that chapter ends pretty hard because Leah ceases bearing at that point. She has four kids. The next lesson, when we talk down the road here, up the contest of wives and the rest of the 12, and we'll get that broke out a little bit, but let's talk about the doctrinal piece here. that's important. The covenant narrows the mixture of nations, Goy, remember the nations, Goyim, the holy assembly of the people of Cahil, Aman in Jacob. So that is going to be We see that how that's blending and how that's going, but he's gonna pull that out and the kahil means or holy. You you hear it and sometimes you hear Kodadesh, coded Kodadesh would be holy as well. Yahweh is not vague. God speaks to Bethel and binds himself to this himself to the the figure tip. So the stairways is a type of Yeshua, Christ is an anti type. And we see that from John 1 51. The anointed stones point to the anointed of the rock. The sowing, these are doctoral points. The sowing and reaping stands inside the mercy seat or inside the covenant of mercy. Jacob is kept. Jacob is corrected. God choice to run through the through the overlooked wife and not favored. So our application here is Jacob met God. while running from a wreck that he made, right? His vision did not cancel the twenty years under Laban. Grace conforms or confirms the promise. Discipline trains the man. So the deceiver was deceived. Many want Bethel without Aaron. The Lord often gives both. Bethel, Canaanite at the time, and Haran is considered part of the Israel lands and desired people of those Abraham seed. He will also let you meet your own methods in other in another man's house until the heart is changed. So it's a hard thing, always a hard thing. Do not despise the Leahs. The line of priest and the line of the Messiah came through the wife. Jacob did not prefer. The Lord still builds his purpose through the unloved. And plain and when the and when they look up and to praise them. Yeshua, Jesus is is the open heaven. When we look up when we see the open heavens, Paul talks about the third heaven. That's that's Jesus. When we think about the heavens, we're thinking about Jesus. No ladder reaches it, it rests on the rock. The only way to get there is through Jesus and returns to the tent. Of Jacob's vow. So he returns tenth back, and then not to buy God, but because he had already spoke this piece. So just think about these things as we close down. Why did Isaac's first blessing in chapter twenty seven seem so incomplete? And why does chapter twenty-eight add it? Well, we we learn one he deceived him. And then he had to pay the price. What is the difference between Goy in Genesis twelve and Kal in Amin? And in Genesis twenty three, that is the holy people that are just gonna be Jewish opposed to Genes twelve where it was going to be all about the Goyim nations. How does Israel how does Esau marry how does Esau's marriage to Is Ishmael, his daughter, interpret the latter history without forming enforcing the text? he does it under despite and it still is happening today. The Arab nations, the Goyems Palestinians, the Palestine, the Philippians, no, the Philistines are despising the Arab nations, excuse me, Jerusalem, the Jews, Judea. What does the anointed stone add to the later title? Rock for Messiah? He's the anointed one. Where do you measure for measure justice in Laban's trick? And where do you see the mercy? So It was a deceiver to a deceiver. Why does the scripture linger on Leah's name of the first four sons? Because they had meanings. Remember we walked through the names of these reasons? Genesis twenty fifteen and behold, I am with thee, and I will keep thee in all the places where thou go, and will thee and will bring thee again into the land. For I will not leave thee until I have done which I have spoken of thee. Verily, verily, and truthfully, truthfully, I say unto you, hereafter this see the open of heaven, that's Jesus, and the angels of God ascending and descending from the Son of Man. So, folks, I know that's a little long, and I I will a little long, but I c I covered two chapters. I hope this is a blessing to you. And again lot of details when you slow down and start reading through the Bible and looking at what God's will is in this chapter. that Isaac's temp attempt he was trying to bypass. we see that God's will Rebecca's sin she was at work she was doing some sinful stuff there was deception there was lying going on God's will of Esau and Esau's attempt to divert that, they all knew that the line would come through Jacob. The sin results in God's will. When you try to re when you try to tamper with God's will, it doesn't end well for you, right? And it clearly sees what happened to Isaac's family. So sin will repeat terrible results. Any attempt to change God, bypass God's will lead this family into the the web of deception and the lies, results in the wrecked home. Folks, if there's sin and li and lies in your your home, it's gonna wreck it. It's just a matter of time. All right, so The sin always results in the suffering of the pain and reaps the devastation and destruction. Why do I say that? Romans 6.23. Why? The wage, what you earn, of sin is death. Stop sinning. What does that mean, Chaplain Dean? That means stop sinning. But the gift of God is eternal life through who? Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6.23. Folks, we got to get on board here. Alright, so as we close down, I just want to make sure that I'm covering a lot of stuff happened. A lot of things unfold in these chapters. from the Jacob, Abraham, Abraham's grand grandson, the chosen preserved line of people, the promises of God. we learned that Jacob receives the Abrahamic covenant covenant. passed on, which means all wealth and everything. It's like kinda like winning the lottery. The fear and shame we learned, the dishonor, the loneliness, the destitute, and what we do when we bring that on to ourselves. The latter is Jacob's way or the access to the angels and the seed, the promised land. in this dream, this is where God met his desperate needs. while Jacob slept, he dreamed God had four provisions to meet his needs. And the four provisions provisions. exist in the needs of the crisis. Number one was the vision of the great ladder or stairway that was formed from earth to heaven. The stairway was huge, wide enough for streams of angels and to pass by in ascending and descending. What did the stairway symbolize for Jake for J Jacob? It was a symbol of two truths. The stairway also Say would be a picture of the gulf or the great gulf in separation between heaven and earth, between God and man. There's a gulf between man and heaven, and the separation that man could never reach heaven apart from the supernatural. That's a good picture telling you you're never gonna get there on your words. Stairwere also pictures the fact that the stairway stretches from earth to heaven is a way to They've been provided for the man to reach heaven in a way provided by God. So we have a way to reach and seek God through Jesus Christ our Lord and to believe on him. So Worship, commitment, and dedication, the vow. That's where Jacob's insight into God and into himself. Right after God had finished speaking to Jacob, or is finished speaking, Jacob awoke. And he was he was a different person and he was engulfed in a deep sense of God's presence. Folks, when you're in a tough spot, look for God's presence. There's there's peace there. And we know that that helped him. And the situation he was dealing with when he me when he was just he was stressed out. Stressed out, he was worried about Esau killing him. He had so many things worrying about him, but he became more patriarchal. Patriarchical, article, patriarch. More of a patriarch. Not article, sorry. And then the commitment about there was a Jacob's renowned he he renewed his commitment to vow to God. He needed to make the renew. to God and commit meant to God and remove and renew that vow. and it's important folks. Very important. I'm gonna open it back up here. I'm gonna go back to verse twenty-eight, I'm gonna chapter twenty eight, and I'm gonna I'm gonna I want you to know this because words matter in the Bible. Okay? How do you learn? You gotta read it. Hope you've learned something out of these two chapters. But let me read this again to you. Verse 28. And I'm sorry. Chapter 28, verse 20, and verse through 22. And Jacob vowed a vow. What do you mean? He vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me bread to eat and raiment, clothing, provide, to put on, so that I can come again to my father's house in peace, then shall the Lord be my God. Verse 22, the s this and this stone which I have set for a pillar, shall be the house of or God's house, and all that thou shalt give me I will surely give ten percent to. That's where you get first of all the first bow. You just saw the first bow in the Old Testament, and that bow That was a bow. Covenants are different things, but my point my point is folks' words matter. You gotta get in, you gotta dig in, you gotta look, you gotta try to find the things that are there and are profitable. Remember, all scripture is profitable. And we should be studying to show ourselves approved, right? All right, Chaplin Dean Alley, I had a moment. Take care.
