Dr Dean Alley: Alright, Chaplain Dean Alley here. I had a moment. I hope you're doing well today. It is Wednesday. Alright, we're halfway there. So we had a little deviation yesterday. Hopefully we have fixed it. well I tell you, I I I get frustrated sometimes with this software that we have that we have, and it it will if an unstable your network is unstable at all, it will flick and then it will start and record a second session and it just is a pain in the butt. So I have Cat six kit cable behind it to be stable. I've done that. I've changed the settings in there. I've whitelisted this software and all of it so it's going to allow this to be hopefully not with a hiccup. So Anyways, IT stuff. Hopefully this will go through. I'm the for me, just so you know, when I start a video or I start something And then it shows up as an unstable connection and it then stops and then says troubleshoot. I gotta start over. Last week, one video, three takes, and I finally got through it and it kept saying unstable. So I about one gigabyte internet. I ha which is let me let me just say it, that's fast. Very, very fast. And I would say my computer is an eight core gaming computer that has a very fast processor. The storage on it is over one terabyte. So it's not a storage issue, it's not a network issue, and it's not a being able to process this. signal so what I've done here is I've closed all the applications that I typically would leave open while I'm doing this this study and hopefully we can get through this so anyways my my point is we're going to get to as we said before working through Genesis building our foundation understanding the the the foundation of the Bible. You've got to have it. You gotta have an understanding on it. And I encourage you to fact check me. I encourage you to read your Bible. I would ask you to do that anyways. and I think it's I think that we we do these things, we become obedient to God. I think some blessings and I'm not a prosperity guy. I'm not telling you if you do this you get that. It's not a it's pleasing or it's like a it's like a pleasing aroma or something like that. Just something that when you're obeying God, the food tastes good and you sleep a little better. That's what I'm saying. But anyways, we are at chapter thirty five. This is where we see Jacob. He's gonna return to Bethel and it's gonna talk about the rival a little bit and then we're gonna talk about the features of this rival and what's going on. And the important part of this is as we read, if you have your Bible, read with me. If you don't, that's okay too. All of these are are are I post on and you can see they're pretty much in chronic chronological order. And if you don't have time to watch the video, you can go to Apple Podcast. I have them all listed there. You can listen to them. If Apple Podcast is not your thing, go to Spotify. It's the same thing. So you've got resources. you can listen in into some of this stuff. And if it is the the goal to see me, which I'm ugly, but my goal is really for you to get something out of the out of this message and be able to apply it to your life and then it builds you up to understand the rest of the Bible because if you just pick up a Bible and you pick up a translator like King James can be a hard version and you pick that up and you go to Revelation seven and you start reading you're going, I don't understand. Well of course you don't. so you gotta start with the foundation. That's what we're doing. We're going through that foundational part and it's part of our edification. God shows us what he wants us to know. And that's okay. And we gotta be open to it. And let me say this, as we go through this and we read the scriptures, if my theology doesn't align with scripture, scripture wins. That makes sense. Scripture always wins. And I am to bend to scripture. you don't see that a lot. A lot of lot of people will take a con they will take a verse way out of context. And they'll look at twenty-five verses and it says one verse and they'll they'll they'll they'll they'll die on the hill on that one verse. See that a lot in Leviticus and some of the things that God called abominations. people like to look for somehow they think they have the answer and it's pretty clear. Usually that is the Holy Spirit prompting them and they're feeling as if they are missing something. They feel like they don't belong to something and and it's not my responsibility. I am just a messenger, right? The the I'm a messenger from the Almighty. That's it, from scripture and doing the best I possibly can. And I'm not perfect and I may make mistakes, but that's okay. and again, fact check, read it, and you know, do your research. But again, I do see people take a verse out of context and and then die on a hill on it. That's not where we are. All right, I'm gonna start in Genesis chapter thirty-five, verse one. And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there, and make there an altar unto God that appeared unto thee when thou fledest from thy face of Esau, thy brother. So This is God God's call. He's calling what? Jacob, telling him to go back to Bethel. He tells him, get up, arise, go to Bethel. Bethel would be defined as the house of God. And Jacob was called to go worship to God at the house of at the house of God, which is in Bethel. Then Jacob said unto his household and to All that were with him, put away the strange gods that are among you and be clean and change your garments. Talking about purity and all those other things that come into play. Let me preface a couple things as we go through this. Is there was a lot of laws that Moses brings into play? It's not even here yet because we're still in Genesis, and that the law has not been given. from Mount Sinai. or I think it's Or Horb. Mount Sinai or Horeb I think is the two, but there it is. so tells them to put away your false gods. He tells be clean. Think about that. So what is our goal to be more Christ like, right? To be obedient to God, to pray, ask things, you know. Read our Bible, share the gospel, tell people about Jesus, these obedient things. you know, you've heard me say it before from the messianic Jew. some would say there's no such thing, but messianic Jew which believe in Jesus, they just keep some of the law. There's no sect, including the Hasidic Jews, most pious, and Orthodox that keep every single one of the Micbus. There's no way. And it doesn't happen today. And you just can't do it. And to put a period on that is there's no temple. So there's just you can't follow all the laws. So they what do they do? They do the best they can with what they have. So if you're reading this and you say, you know, I I I I think that we should be more obedient and I want to do some more of some of the things that God had put in the old testament. All right, go ahead. Do it do it quietly. But people that convert to a messianic why? Why would you do that? They believe in God, you believe in God. You wanna follow those things? Just quietly go follow Why do you gotta get on there and tell everybody you got the four corners of the tits or tzits, which is the hem of the garment, they have those little tassels on four corners. And the reason they do that, that's that's where they say that Jesus had that on and that's what the lady reached in where we see it in King James it says touch the garment, they say it it touched his Zitsi is what they call it. Zitzy. It's T Z, Zitzy's, and he was wearing it and They she touched it and he was she was healed. So four corners is a reminder of your Levitical laws and things on that line and or the laws of Moses. Again, if you're not born in ju in in in Jerusalem or Judea, you're not a Jew, folks. You're not. you say, Well, you know, I I believe in you know, okay, you can believe all you want, but there's no sense that you're running out trying to follow sixteen six hundred and thirteen things. Now you see a lot of stuff back here. There is a lot of information that I glean So I can understand. to prepare to share with you guys and that's my goal. And I should study to show myself approved. I do. I I study the Bible. I study immensely. Seven days a week. For the last ten years. Does that make me smarter than you? Absolutely not. It just makes or it just shows you that my desire that God has given me to search the scriptures and So anyways, so that's that's that's that's the point I'm making here. So I go back to that whole messianic and orthodox, ascetics, there's many different sects of Jewish people. Even in in Jerusalem, there's there's many. It's just not one. Sometimes we clarify go okay, you're either Orthodox or you're Messianic. There's Gentiles in In Jerusalem and Israel. Better Christians. Yeah. All right, so he's giving them fair shake, fair warning. Remember that we have to remember that God has the power to deliver them from trouble and from a distressful situation. And he says, Then let us rise and go up to Bethel Bethel, and I will make an altar unto God, who entered me in the day of my distress and was with me in the way which I went. To give you pause. That you're reading something where God in the distress where Jacob was at, but God delivered him. It is an object lesson. Knowing God did this, He didn't write this to you, okay? He's writing to the Jews, He's writing to the Jewish culture, Israel, and anyone else that listens, but He is given the object lesson of. If you rely on Jesus, if you rely on Christ, and He's your Lord and Savior, that He has helped people in times of stress. And this is an example. Why is this here? Because God wanted it here. He wanted you to know that He helps people in that distress. Now, I'm not going to go into the details of that, but point being is it gives us the object lesson to tell us, hey, this is what God has done. So and they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hands and all their earrings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the oak which was in Shechem. So people are repenting, changing the way they are walking. They give away these idols. You're gonna remember this, I mean the culture is loaded with pagan gods, loaded with pagan gods. It gets even worse in Third century, second, third, fourth, and it gets worse in different things like the Catholicism, some other things that they require. You know, you you see people carrying beads, praying to Mary, a statue, all these things. These are pagan things, these are not biblical. You show me where it says pray for Mary in the Bible or hold a set of beads. while you're praying. Those are symbols of paganism. It's a it's a symbol. It it's not biblical. That is where you have to camp on. So, anyways, showing that example. So they gave up their idols and their rings and their ears and Jacob buried all the symbols and the false worships and worldliness. He just got rid of it. He just he just he just took everything out of his people and Totally got rid of all these idols and and I'm surprised there are idols with Jacob because of his relationship with God. But there's people that are in your neighborhood or in your church right now that have idols. and anything that gets in front of God where you're worshiping, not worshiping and loving him with all your heart, mind, soul, if you're not doing that, that's an idol. Something's in front of you. That's where you go. That's the first thing we should be doing. So the people basically when they gave up those idols, what are they doing? They're turning away from that sense. That would be called repentance. So have you ever repented, or let me say this way have you ever done something where you go man, I wish I didn't do that. What a what a what a dodo bird I am. I'll raise my hand. I you know, I think that that happens and We what do we do? We learn from it. That's our goal. We should be learning from our mistakes and seeking God to help us with those things. So again, when you come to Jesus and you realize what He's done for you. You should feel I don't want to use the word feel, but you should clearly understand that there was a that Jesus, a God, came to earth incarnate as a man, lived the perfect life, went to the cross, because it had to be, because we go back to Genesis 3:15, it had to be, and the world was wicked, and he had to get a He had to be the atonement and the propitiation for the sins of the world for you and I. And he goes to the cross, he gets buried. Three days later, he arises as the living savior, seen by over 500 plus people, spends 40 days with his disciples in the flesh. People say, well, he's just a ghost. He's floating around. No, no, that's not the case. I also think this, I think that when we talk about the new heavens and new earth, I think they're physical. I really do. I don't think that it that's a spiritual sense. Now when we die, the body doesn't go anywhere, but the spirit and the soul goes, I believe, to heaven. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. So I say that because that's what the Bible says. So let's keep going. So and they journeyed in terror of God was upon the cities that they were roundabout. And they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob. So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel. He and all the people were with him. So we see disobedience. We see God's very special presence and his deliverance. He delivers the people. Jacob and the people arrive at Bethel. They're delivered. God helped got them there. He builds an altar, he renames the place. El Bethel. El is means God. Bethel. The house of God. There you go. And he built there an altar and he called the place El Bethel because their their God appeared unto him and he fled from the face of his brother. Talking about Esau. But Deborah, Rebecca's nurse, died. She was buried beneath Bethel. under the oak and the name of it was called Alon Bachhof. And God appeared unto Jacob again when he had came out of Pandamer, which is out of the Mesopotamia, and blessed him. So what do we let's just look at this for a minute. God is infusing a new power to confront the daily day trials trials. He symbolizes it with a greatest trial of death. And God renews his promises is what he's gonna do here. It says and God said unto and what is he doing? God is telling, speaking, to Jacob to name the place. And Thy name J Jacob is Jacob. Thy name shall not be called anymore Jacob, but Israel. And or that's the name. He changes gets his name changed. shall be thy name, and you will be and he called his name Israel. So God blesses Jacob and reconciles his new name. It's Israel. So and God said unto him. I am God Almighty, be fruitful and multiply. a nation and company of nations shall be of these. You're gonna have a lot of nations coming out of Israel. You know the t the twelve tribes and so on. And And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I'm gonna promise that to you. So we're we're getting this God reaffirming or confirming the gift of the promised seed of the nation of the people and the community and tribes, and all the tribes of Israel for that matter. thirteen. And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him. And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him. Even a pillar of stone he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil on them. So he's he's he's offering up these these types of offerings. You have the wave offering, you have the there's just the meal offering. I mean there's just you know, you pray before and after I mean, there's just a ton of different ways of honoring God and this is what they're doing. You don't have to follow the wave offering. I just say you. And Jacob set up the pillar in the place he talked with him, and he poured these these drinks, and thereon he poured the oil, and Jacob called them the name of the place where God spake with him, Bethel. And Jacob sets up the so basically he reconfirms that promise land. God's promise or presence and promise memorialized in a place of Private worship. So it's Bethel. Let me think. Bethel is what? Bethlehem in the New Testament. Who came, who was born in Bethlehem? See where I'm going with this? See how chapter 35 sets up what we learn in Matthew, right? What we learn in Matthew where Jesus was born. Bethlehem, Bethel. So Jacob sets up a pillar of stone and consecrates it for the drink offering. And Jacob publicly called the place Bethel, and he bore the testimony of God. So When you think about like there's I know our church is getting ready to do a revival. The church does need a revival. The problem is laborers are few. That's the problem. You know, I pray for my pastor, his wife, his family and his family to be, all the members, attenders, anyone in that church, I pray daily for that church. Folks, I pray daily for Your you should be praying daily for your pastor. It's a tough job. I know I was on the leadership committee for almost ten years. I saw everything he saw and I didn't have responsibilities that sat on his shoulders and it was a difficult spot and God called him. He was called, he was ordained and he became the pastor. And you know, things happen. Seasons, every people come in are seasons and or they come in certain seasons and go out of certain seasons. I know that I remember when I was a men's Bible teacher, I had so many different military guys come and go. It was it was amazing. I mean it was just like okay you get to know somebody, you spend time with them, and then boom, they get orders. And that is expected in a transient area where we're at now. So it makes the dynamic or this the event of our relationship is dynamic because they're they're coming and going, coming and going. Some came back, some left, came back. So what I'm what I'm saying is we're we do have seasons, we ha we have things, but where we're reading right here is talking about the New Testament and the church needs a revival. The heart of the believers all over the world, I think, sometimes can be cold. Pastors will know that better than I. Deacons and senior leadership in church, they know that better than anybody. But God with a new commitment to follow him as never before. So revival or a true revival is the only answer to overcoming the problems of what? Our society and our world. You're not going to overcome those without that. You've got to have a heart for that. That's that revival. Let it let it sink in. Let it let it simmer as I used yet yesterday as a object lesson. the subject of this great passage in scripture is recorded revival in the Bible. Jacob returns to Bethel and features a revival. That's that's what chapter 35 is. It's a revival. That's what it's it's it's it's it's known for, if if that makes any sense. So he gets the call, God's message, people start repenting, getting rid of all their stuff. It's kinda like Amnesty, if you will, you know. I'm gonna give you amnesty and it'll be a box. You can get rid of that stuff and there'll be no repercussions, but just get rid of it. It's kind of like that. So the obedience of God to God, very special presence and deliverance. So God is in the midst here. God in infuses a new power to confront the day-to-day trials. This is giving us you know another view. We're peeling the layer back. God's giving this situation the power to confront day-to-day situations. I mean, it symbolizes the greatest trial, which verse eight talked about will be death. So I said it right here. But Deborah, Rebecca's nurse, died. And she was buried beneath Bethel under the oak All right. So he renews his promise and God's present and promise remoralizes a place. Think about this. We celebrate certain holidays and we do that through a calendar, which is Goran or man made whatever but we follow these traditions and remembrance and memorial memorials like a birthday that's a memorial day that even people after they died people still remember that day. So it's a memorial memoralizing the place of that person or whatever whatever situation that you're in. Like I can sit here and tell you that I was talking to my wife and I was like, Yeah, twenty ninth I went in nineteen eighty seven in the military. Well actually I signed in December of eighty sixth. But I went in in eighty seven on the twenty ninth, but I got out on the twenty eighth. I always thought was I always thought that was weird, one day less. I don't know how they figure that out. But anyways, at least that was my first part of my military service and It ended in nineteen ninety five, so almost nine years, something like that. Anyways, so but it's funny how it comes to your mind. Just popped in my head. So that's what these memorials are called call out of God. It's a revival. And as revival gets ready to start here, with Pastor Marvin Miller and the folks over at Harmony, It's this is the first feature, Genesis thirty five, of a revival. I mean this I mean I haven't seen first I just I've read thirty five chapters or I'm in the thirty-fifth. I'm not seeing anything talk about a revival or renewing of something, right? Jacob was facing the unbearable trouble, desperate and created a deep sense of the n of need in his heart and his life. Jacob was afraid, he frightened, he was frightened to the core of his being. You know? God called him. Think about that. Told him what to do. Get up out and get to Bethel. His daughter, Dinah, had just been abused and raped in the local prince area where he was at. In retaliation, his sons went out and they struck and killed the males of that city. And they had also looted the city. They were taking of the women and the children. Now Jacob was facing the retaliation and it was surrounding him. And God said, No, we're you're out of here. Get poop out. He didn't want to, you know, in fact, it was he was actually expecting. than the join forces and attack him and and just eliminate Jacob and his tribe. God God had better plans for that. That didn't happen. so he was fearful about what was happening, but the things were bothering him and Jacob knew it spiritually before God and the people that was with him, his sons. let me say this people will say, Am I gonna be held accountable for my sons or daughters' sins? The answer is no. Is my daughters and sons gonna be held accountable to my sins? No. So just settle that right there. So I mean you should be building up character in your child and building up God in them, never forgetting where what does it say? When you're standing up, lying down, never stop talking about God. Ever. And I don't care if you get called a fanatic. Who cares? And But you're doing what God wants you to do as a parent to your child. You're shaping the character of that individual. Personally, to me, instead of an A, I would rather have better a better character in my child than getting good grades in in school. grades will fade, but the character of an individual will continue to go on in the lifetime of of of their life. So anyways, so we see this in We know Jacob hadn't set a an example and that's another reason why he d he knew he knew he wasn't doing things. Jacob had a deep sense of disobedience and backsliding. he had he'd been back in the promised land for what, nine or ten years now? And yet he had taken time to travel to Bethel to fulfill the vow of God. So he he is going, God called him, he went. He went to went there. So The other thing I would mention about the revival is God spoke to Jacob. Jacob gathered the people together, proclaimed God's message. He told people. What's what's the message here? Folks, are you telling people about God? Are you telling them about Jesus? Are you sharing? Here's an o here's another odd lesson. See how we're pulling out some things that could be utilized and learnings and precepts. Even though it wasn't written to us, right? It's written to Israel, the Jews, and and to the to to the Gentiles as 'cause all scripture is given for inspiration and reproof. it is it benefits us. So all right, so the people were g they got rid of their false idols and what a shock to us. Think about that man of God allowing idols and worships and falcalls in his own household. We know Rachel took some Idols from her father, remember the story, prior chapters. So, anyways, I would say this people still hang on to gods and idols on this earth, I think. anything that comes before God, let me give you some examples. Money, wealth, property, your business, business, power, fame, family, sex, alcohol, drugs, what am I missing? Clothes clothes. Vehicles, astrology, sports. You've heard my story about sports, in appearance. Remember I was telling you I hosted a Super Bowl go bowl party, had all the family, friends in and we were watching and I went out and bought shirts and everything. We were all Patriot fans, right? And It was like third quarter or something like that. It was a close, close game. And I got up. I I put my shoes on, I grabbed my Bible and I started walking out. And somebody said, Hey, where you going? I said, I'm gonna go serve my God. And you could hear a pin drop. As the patriarch of this family, standing up, leaving my favorite football team and the biggest game of the year, and the closest game to go serve God was a was displaying what was important in my life. So that's what I'm saying. Don't let idols get in front of you. Don't let things get in front of you. I can tell you that you then you know God's first, but then it's your wife I got I mean let me just remind you, you can't let anything in. You guys grab each other's wrists and just lock in. And don't let anything get in that and sometimes kids, grandkids, we get busy. That's the one you always hear. I see it a lot of time. We don't see our friends and family like we should because why? We're busy. We allow the busyness to get in front of us and we allow that business you say, well, you know, I gotta do this, I gotta do that, this and I'm I I'm I'm not critiquing your situation. I'm asking you to look at that situation and and see what I'm trying to say. Anything gets in front of God. So that's my point. I'm I'm I'm I'm saying here, and God always delivers his people, folks. always delivers them who what turn to him. If I turn the word repent means to turn, right? Away from what? My current lifestyle. What I believe in. You always hear me talk about free thinking and what do you believe in and why? And I debate a lot of people in a lot of religions. And I'm not there to crush them. No, I'm not trying to win it. I am to give them the biblical scripture and let the Holy Spirit do the work. And that's simply put. And I get silence after a while. I'll I'll I'll load up with scripture. And I've even had people say, The other guy's attacking me and they'll and the other guy will say, Well, what did he say wrong? All he did was tell you what the Bible said. See, you got that power. What is it? The power of the scripture, the power of Jesus Christ. You've got the power in your hands to do things and make a difference in some cases. So, anyways, so we repent, we turn away from what we're doing, we know it's not right. obedience, obedience, obedience. That's what we're gonna think about in chapter. thirty five. You know, the the fact that the infusion of the new power to confront the day to day trials, this is a symbolism in the greatest trial, death itself. So Deborah, Rebecca's nurse, died, and Jacob buried her under the oak tree. Now, how did Deborah come to live with Jacob? The scripture never mentions it. We don't know. It's it's unclear. Jacob visited his his father Isaac and he was returning to the promised land, but Deborah, her presence with Jacob was strong and indicated that he did. So how else can she with her father's home? He must have asked Deborah to come live with the family. So there must have been something. Why are you with just think about it? Why is Deborah with them? Maybe Jacob had that conversation. He must have, or somebody did. Scripture regards your death worth recording. It's in the Bible, God wanted you to know. So she was probably a godly woman, she was probably wise, and God put her in the Bible as an object lesson for us to understand. perhaps counseling him during the difficult times. Maybe she was somebody he leaned on. I don't know. Bible doesn't tell us that. But we can start thinking between things. So when we say that the oak tree. What does the oak stand for? Well it's in this context it would be weeping. This is where he buried her under the oak tree, right? That was the Alan Bacah is where is the name of it. So Strongly in indicates that he had a great love for her. So, anyways, when we think about the new strength of whatever we face daily, even the worst trial and the enemy of all, what's the number one enemy? What's the number one fear? Death. And then I think public speaking is second. I don't know, something like that. But anyways, so you have to think about We confront these things because we have the power of God. We're able to have, you know, we have the we have the power of Jesus Christ in with us and we have the promise as we're grafted in. You heard me talk about being grafted into Israel or into the seed of Abraham. We were grafted, not Abraham was grafted into the church. That's not how that works. that's why you have to give I think you have to give some some grace and you have to give some simple polite responses to this seed of Abram, whoever's part of the seed of Abraham. I think you have to do that. So you have to think about too in revival sometimes it's private worship. I can sit and meditate on scripture and God's you know, just showing things to me and I may have that that revival and pr you know with a private worship. And God renews what to Jacob has promised. He renews it to him. He tells him. And he went and he was speaking. So Revival or true revival will always lead us to do two things. Worship God privately, it should strengthen you, and bear a testimony to God's work in our lives. Can people see fruits of Christ in you? Did you blast that customer service person on the l on the phone? Was that something that was Christ leg? You say what Chablain Dean, they I could barely understand their English. Yeah, but th they're still people and they're God's people. And we should show that. We should show That respect. And in regards to the offerings that he gave, that is the first time the drink offer is mentioned in the Bible, by the way. First mention. Why is it important? It's first mentioned in thirty five. usually was wine of oil. That's usually what that was. And it was connected with other offerings, right? And the drink offering was a type of Christ in that Christ poured out his soul unto death. Right? It's a symbolism of of what we see today or in Matthew or in the gospels where Christ went to the cross for us. It also symbolizes dedication, the giving and the pouring out of one's heart in their life. So those are some things that come into play. So let's look at sixteen. And they journeyed from Bethel. There was but a little way to come to E Ephra. And Rachel trav travailed. So she was having some problems, and she had a hard labor. So she's she she's travailing. She is having the pangs, as we learned in the curse. For a woman, she's in that travail, difficult time. And and it came to pass with that hard labor that the midwife said unto her, Fear not, thou shalt have their son also. So, what happens? And it came to pass her soul was departing, so she's giving birth, she is leaving this transitioning and leaving this world. the death is gonna is difficult, but during the birth, suffering. Hard labor. She's going through a tough time. I've I know there's people today, and I'm gonna say this as a chaplain, I've been in I've had to go into rooms where a young couple have lost a child at birth. Gone through the whole program of the whole thing and the child is lost and is with God. And walking in there as a chaplain. and seeing their overnight bag and then the clothes for the baby and all that stuff, if you can't get emotional. with an innocent baby that passed and I don't know why, I don't have the answer. But got maybe God saw something, he took that child and brought with him. I d we don't know. but they're innocent and they're with God and there's no question about it. And I talked to I walked in the door, the first thing came to my mind was David and I think what, Samuel talks about that when his son has died that that died He was having that sin nature with Bathsheba, but when that child died, he wasn't mourning, and his servants came to him to tell him he goes, Is the child dying? And he basically, yes, he is, he's dead. And he makes the statement that that child cannot come to me. One day I will go to him. What does that tell us? That tells us we will see. Our children, our loved ones, we will see them again. Okay. So and it came to pass, soul departed for she died, and she called his name Benomi or Ben Oni, which is the father called him Benjamin. So this is Benjamin. She dies at giving birth to Benjamin. And Rachel she died and was buried in the way of Eph Ephraim, which is Bethlehem. She is buried there, his wife. And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave. That is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day. So even to this day, I don't know if they it's still out there, but express naming her son Benoni or Benoni. Jacob changed the name to Be Benjamin, buried close to Bethlehem, and Jacob honored her. And Jacob overcome overcame by journeying. As Israel and striving with God. So now he's Israel and he's he's striving with God. He's he's right with God. That's that's that's the point I want to make. He makes and he sets up this pillar, and Israel, Jacob, journeyed and spread his tent beyond the beyond the tower of Edar, and it came to pass when Israel dwelt in the land that Reuben went and laid with Billah. That's not correct. His father's concubine and Israel heard it and now the sons of Jacob were twelve. So Jacob overcount overcame he by hearing the sin in the name of Israel. So you remember when Jacob dies and he's telling his children what he what they're gonna get and he and he comes to Reuben and I and it just sticks with me, I don't know why. But he calls him as unstable water. You ever try to hold a glass of water and it just keeps moving? Reuben was like that. He was unstable. He was not, you know, solid in his his faith. So the sons of Leah, Reuben, f Reuben, Jacob's firstborn from Sion and Simon, Nevi and Judah. And Ishkar and Zebulun. The sons of Rachel were Joseph and Benjamin. She had two children. And the sons of Billah, Rachel's handmaid, Dan, Nephali, and sons of Zopa, Leah's handmaid, Gad and Asher, these are the sons of Jacob, which M-A-R-M-R-E and to the city of Ebrah and is now Hebron where Abraham and Isaac sojourned. So there's there's correlations to where they're coming. So the days of Isaac were a hundred and four scores, which is a hundred and eighty. And Isaac gave up his spirit and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days, and his sons, Esau and Jacob, buried him. So Jacob overcame by obeying God, returning to the promised land, and his great spiritual heritage. So he did what God asked him to do. The death of Jacob's father gives us a mention of He he joined eternity with his with Abraham and and and other s other saints. And Jacob overcame by reconciling with his brother Esau and they buried their father and they did it together. So there still was no angst against each other. Have you lost a loved one, a husband, a wife? Have you suffered an awful pain or sorrow or grief and loneliness that followed such loss? Have you ever had a son or daughter go astray and maybe commit a horrible sin? Have you ever born pain, sorrow, grief, shame, and embarrassment of a child if they committed it they committed that sin and the public knew about it. I can tell you I dealt with that. I was worried about what people thought of me. I was in the wrong place. God God got a hold of me. Have you ever had the sense of the responsibility of family, the sense of pressure, tension, duty to take care of their needs, their food, clothing, spiritual have you ever lost a father or mother have you suffered any pain sorrow grief and a sense of responsibility well I was the oldest son and both my parents have passed And I had to be kind of the point guy on handling the f the affairs, you know, burial, all that stuff. with my brother, my brother helped out and my sister, she did a tremendous job with my mother. And a a job that I could not do, she she did. So I I always thank her for that. So I think of a morality, Ruben. There was sin in his son. Reuben being the oldest and the firstborn to Jacob, he commits this this this terrible this terrible sin. Lies with his father's concubine in an adulterous act. He commits adultery. and who's he against God, against his father? Just not a good place to be. Villa was the mother of Ruben's youngest brother, Daniel Nefali. So my point being here is And we can learn, you know, I w I would encourage you to spend some time there if you had a an opportunity to Do it on do it do a care character study on the the the tribes of Judah.
