Jerry: Welcome to another episode of the Co Extrusion Podcast. I think we have some juicy content to talk about today. JJ Shankles: Yeah, it's been a while. You've been over in China on the other side of the world seeing a lot of crazy things. So we've got a lot to talk about on this episode. Yeah. Jerry: ⁓ my gosh. I know. Yeah. I think we might try and keep it like a little focus towards. Yeah. So let's there's a lot to talk about, but for this episode, let's focus on the MOVA Atom Form Palette 300. So I saw it firsthand. Do you, JJ, do you know anything about this printer, about this company? Like, do know anything about them? JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Let's focus it up first. Yeah. I know a little bit about it. This is one that I think they emailed me a long time or a while ago. And initially I was like, that sounds crazy. I did not respond to them because it's like a ⁓ new no-name company or, they haven't made, they're not in the consumer space and they're like, we were going to revolutionize multicolor printing. And it's like, that's a big ask. That's a big claim, you know, from, from an upstart to have a full nozzle changing. Jerry: ⁓ JJ Shankles: mechanism on there, but I've seen your shorts that it exists. It is really changing the nozzle. Jerry: Yeah. So before I guess we dive into the nitty gritty about how the actual printer works, because trust me, I will tell you exactly how the printer works and what the capabilities and functions are. JJ, do you remember when, so the Snapmaker U1 that did it, it debuted on Kickstarter, was it in like August timeframe or when was it on? JJ Shankles: Yeah. Yes, something around there. August to fall area, yeah. Jerry: August 2025. And when that debuted, Bamboo had not yet released their Vortex system. I mean, am I get it? Like, the only thing we had heard from was JJ Shankles: That was right. Yes, yeah, yeah. That one released and then shortly after their H2S, the single nozzle printer released, but then they announced, ⁓ we're also doing this, the Vortech system in the fourth quarter. So, yeah. Jerry: Yeah, yeah. And I think in that August 2025 timeframe, the only other tool changer that we saw was BondTech Index, which we knew was real. We saw it at TCT, Rapid TCT, and it was just like, when is it going to come out? so I got an email and you probably got the same email from MOVA in the August timeframe about this printer. So it was kind of there, kind of, but not really. JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm, yeah. Jerry: Anyway, so that's just kind of like I just personally wanted to get like an understanding of that because it seemed unrealistic then. And the MOVA Atom Form Palette 300, it kind of takes nozzle changing or tool changing to a kind of a different level. So it only has one tool head, but JJ Shankles: Yes, yeah. Jerry: all the way so it's a fully enclosed printer and and if you open the front door to it and look all the way on the back wall on the bottom left we're calling it this turret it's got like it's got like a wheel with 12 independent nozzles all around it and that wheel essentially when it wants to change tools that wheel spins to like the correct nozzle and somehow it just gets like sucked up into the printer and then like installed on the one individual tool. like. Saves a lot of space when you look at the U1, which is four tool heads, right? So. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Yeah, it does save a lot of space, but it seems like a weird design choice for... It unscrews the nozzle, right? Jerry: Yeah, okay. So how does this mythical magical palette 300 actually work? Well, I have a close up of it and I've got a lot of content either already uploaded to my channel or to be uploaded soon. Probably by the time this video goes live, some of it will be up. So if you guys want to see content, you can go look it over there and it'll maybe be referenced in this video. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jerry: But essentially, is, you know how your dirty printing nozzle has, ⁓ it's keyed and you put a nozzle wrench on it and you, it's threaded, you just, it's a wrench, you, righty tighty, lefty loosey, you know what I mean? So there is like a wrench, like, like just an automatic wrench that just pops up. It is keyed, it locks onto the nozzle and it, JJ Shankles: Yeah Jerry: got a motor on it and it spins automatically and it's I mean it's as dumb simple as you could get but when you think about it it's actually very complicated which is good and bad right complicated more parts to break but simple like you could go in there with a nozzle wrench and just unscrew the nozzle JJ Shankles: Yeah. Uh-huh. So it's just a normal, it's not a special nozzle. Do you know, like it's just a fairly normal, I would say. Jerry: The nozzle looks no different from any other nozzle that you've seen on the market. the nozzle, it actually looks like, and I'm going to say this very carefully with a big caveat, it looks like we went back in time to like two or three years ago when your nozzles were only this big, right? Like nowadays with Coralities, ⁓ Unicorn Nozzles, your nozzle is like this big, but it's attached to the heat. JJ Shankles: tetra big thing or volcano nozzle, you know, like these large heat zone. It's a standard V8 or whatever the standard nozzle V6. Yeah. Jerry: Yeah. V6 something. It looks, it looks like a standard V6 nozzle. Now I, and I saying this very carefully because it prints fast. has high, it has high, I don't know what the speeds and the volume metric flow are, but I'm confident that MOVA has done something to where the, the internals of the actual, of the tool head can support high volume metric flow. I don't know those numbers are, but it has to, JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. But it's a standard hex head and a standard hex screw that unscrews the nozzle and screws in a new one fully automatic. Jerry: Exactly. Exactly. And I actually saw a leaked video of this actually after I came home from Shanghai, I saw a leaked video on X and there's not a shot that I'm going to able to find that again to post it. just somehow randomly came across it where this printer was changing the nozzle and there was no JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Jerry: plastic on it. was a completely leaked video. Certainly it was never supposed to get out, but it's on X, you might be able to find it. ⁓ The mechanism essentially there's like an arm that and I'm going to try and like, I'm going to try and visualize this right now. Essentially, let's pretend this is the nozzle. This like automatic wrench like like moves up and down on a linear rail. It spins or I guess it spins. And then JJ Shankles: Yeah. Mm-hmm, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Jerry: When it releases the nozzle, it's got some kind of an arm and the whole thing rotates 180 degrees, like flops down, like does a 180. I don't really know how to explain that. It goes back down on that linear rail and now the nozzle is pointed down where you would think gravity would just make the nozzle fall out of the wrench, which it doesn't because JJ Shankles: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Jerry: There's ⁓ spring-loaded balls to keep tension on the nozzle. The spring-loaded balls are inside the nozzle wrench. It's kind of like a... It's like any socket. Like any socket you'd find in your garage toolbox. ⁓ So now the nozzle's upside down and it moves down on that linear rail. It deposits it on this 12 nozzle turret changer thing. ⁓ And then... JJ Shankles: ⁓ okay, yeah. Uh-huh. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Jerry: that turret spins to select the new nozzle, that nozzle wrench with its spring loaded tension balls goes back down, it sucks up the new nozzle or it attaches the nozzle and then it goes up and then it like puts it rotates itself 180 back up and goes directly into the tool head. That was like super confusing, probably. JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah. No, yeah, that totally makes sense of that it's, yeah, basically a single, it's all the same wrench, one wrench and arm mechanism that's doing the full changing of it. Yeah. Jerry: Yeah. And you now have 12 nozzles or 12 tools or whatever you want to call it in something that is, mean, it's smaller than this. It's smaller than my, ⁓ the palm of my, my hand or roughly that size. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Yeah, all packed in there. so downsides being speed, like... Jerry: Okay. JJ Shankles: The nozzle change, this sounds like a complex mechanism of like, okay, it's gotta unscrew, it's gotta change, it's rotate around, grab a new one, just rotate around, put a screw back in, like. Jerry: Yes, so there is a minimum speed that this will ever be able to be right, even if it's to the T, there is a minimum. And what that is, I don't know, because presently right now at the end of March 2026, it is still a beta machine. It is not in anyone's hands. No. JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Jerry: No content creators. It doesn't exist anywhere but inside MOVA's test center, right? So it is still slow. It needs to be tuned. ⁓ All that to say, what I saw in my video, when it selects a nozzle, it actually even has a purge. Now, I published a video and everyone was like, wow, it takes 60 seconds to change and it even purges. And what's the point of this if you purge and it takes a long time? And everyone's right. JJ Shankles: Mmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mmm. Jerry: 100 % right. But that being said, I reached out to MOVA and they told me very explicitly, they said, when this machine launches, ⁓ the nozzle will only purge the very first time it's ever selected. It will never purge again. ⁓ Or if you're changing materials. So if that nozzle changes materials, or if it's JJ Shankles: and Jerry: You know, if if nozzle one is green and then nozzle two changes to be blue. That's a different color that's going to have to purge if you had TPU in it and then it changed in that nozzle, then changes to be PLA. It's going to have to purge all of that aside. It should not ever purge if it stays the same color and the same material. JJ Shankles: Yeah. ⁓ okay. But still, time it changes color, it'll need to purge. Jerry: if if that nozzle changes color so if if JJ Shankles: ⁓ okay, yeah. So if you have your red nozzle, blue nozzle, green nozzle switching between red and green and blue, it will only need to purge the first time to get it flowing through that nozzle. Okay, that totally makes sense. Like, of course you need to do that. Yeah. Jerry: Yeah. Correct. Correct. So, and if what I said was confusing, what I was told is this is a no purge system. It doesn't purge. mean, unless there are literal physical limitations, right? A material change or a color change in that exact nozzle. Otherwise, it is a no purge system. So. JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Because even the... Sorry to cut you off. The Snapmaker U1 purges. Like, that machine purges just not between color changes. It's when you load a new material in or change a material. It needs to, like, get some flow through the nozzle. Or when you're doing your, like, pre-calibration, it, like, it has to do a flow test. And so it's got to purge while it's doing a flow test. you know... Jerry: Exactly. Yeah. Yeah, there are some things that you're just not going to get around, right? Like if if last week I had PETG loaded in that nozzle and this week I have PLA loaded in it, they printed different temperatures, even if it's the same color, red PETG and red PLA, it is a different material and it prints at a different temperature, different properties. So ⁓ they and again, like I said, they stressed heavily, no purge system. JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Mm-hmm. Jerry: We'll see it when we get it in our hands, what it actually is, because that's what they're going for. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Yeah, it's the whole bold claims they're trying to make, but it's like, okay, no, I get where we're like, okay, it's to the level of like the H2C does some purging. The Snapmaker U1 does some purging, but it's not every color change needs to purge. It's a, yeah, it's fixing the system. Jerry: Yeah, Now, you will have a ⁓ you will have a wipe tower or is that what is a prime? Yeah, I'm like, what is that? Yeah, you will have a prime tower. I mean, that's just you're not going to get away from that. That's just but that's minimal, minimal waste. JJ Shankles: ⁓ yes, yeah, ⁓ Prime Tower. Mm-hmm. Yeah, it's... yes, prime towers are so small. And I've learned a lot about this with the U1 of being like, well, I shouldn't need this, but it looks a lot better. Prints turn out a lot better if it wipes the nozzle on the tower right before it does the print. And so that's the real benefit you have there. But it's a really thin tower, and it doesn't take much material. Jerry: Yeah. It's yeah. Uh, so you'll have a prime tower. And of course, like any other, like any other multicolor system, you could exchange the prime tower for, you know, you could just print the same model twice and use one model as the prime tower. So that's, um, I mean, people don't usually make use of that because that model is going to be ugly. You know, it's quality is going to be bad, but, um, JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Jerry: Anyway, you do still have that speed that you were talking about, so you will have a reduction of speed. The Snapmaker U1, you have it in your hands. I don't. How long? Two seconds? JJ Shankles: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, it's a five second from when it stops printing to when it starts printing. It gets crazy fast, yeah. Jerry: Yeah, five seconds. This will never be that fast. It's just it's just physically not possible. You have to you have to go park the nozzle or you sorry you have to go park the tool head. Once the tool head is parked, you need to maneuver this automatic wrench up. You have to make sure it's locked in place. You have to spin it to unlatch it, flip it around. JJ Shankles: No, yeah. Mm-hmm. Jerry: Then you have to wait for this nozzle turd on the bottom to spin to the open space deposit it find it. Yeah. How long does that take? You could probably do that if it's fast. You could probably do it in 20 to 30 seconds. That's a guess. I don't know. That's a guess. JJ Shankles: It's gonna be a lot. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, probably 30 to a minute. Like if it can get under a minute, I think that'd be good. Jerry: So I recorded the entire process from start to finish. It took 60 seconds right now and that included a purge, a very, very long purge. I don't know why it purged it when it was going to dock it, but that included a very long purge, which JJ Shankles: ⁓ Okay, yeah. Haha. could be there like still kind of in the beta and at a show they're like this has to look good like we don't want if the prints look bad here this is gonna sink the company so purge yeah Jerry: Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. And I am like, I love what I see from MOVA. I have no affiliation with them. I absolutely love the technology and where they're headed. I'm not I'm not standing up for them. However, it is a beta unit. We just need to wait until it's in consumers hands or in ⁓ in the reviewers hands to really truly see, hey, JJ Shankles: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah, in the reviewers hands, yeah. Jerry: they've shipped it out, this is what they think the consumers should receive, right? ⁓ JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Because the slow time, even that, like, I don't know, add a minute between layers, between colors, really. It can add a fair amount of time. But if you're making something large and intricate and you do it in 12 colors, and now instead of taking 12 hours, it takes a day and a half, it's like, yeah, that's a lot of time, but this is an incredible 12-color print that didn't waste a bunch of filament. Jerry: lot. What does it or more. This is the first system that I have seen marketed on the internet to allow more than 20 colors to print or 16 more than 16. No, I think it is 20. Most of these systems cap themselves out at 16 for CFS is for AMS is and they're all four colors. Most cap at 16. And I did a 16 color print and it was JJ Shankles: Yeah. More than 20? Mmm, yes. Jerry: remarkably difficult to even find a model that would accept 16 colors. I had to completely and totally forge the model just to say, here's a color, even though it doesn't make sense. That being said, it supports up to 36, right? So you're you're literally doubling the number of you're doubling the number of colors more than and materials. JJ Shankles: ⁓ yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Whoa. So how does it do this filament? So there's 12 nozzles, right? We're getting back to 12 nozzles and a full cabinet next to it that holds... Jerry: Yes. So if you remember anything about Anchormake and how they were supposed to release the Anchormake V6, the illusive V6 that backers paid for on Kickstarter, never received. However, Anchormake, I will say they did the right thing and they gave everyone their money back plus, plus $50. So like they gave you more than you actually had to begin with. I don't JJ Shankles: Yup. Mm-hmm. Nice, yeah. Yeah. Jerry: agree with taking money and then not producing a party, but it looks identical to the V6. So it, yeah. So it's a cabinet that sits next to the machine. It does not go on top of the machine. It sits next to it and it stores six filaments, which means to get to the 36 different, ⁓ spools, you would have to have six RFD sixes tied together. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Okay, yeah. So six filaments. Store it in one box. Mm-hmm. Okay, yeah. Jerry: And if we look at MOVA's website, have pricing on... Sorry, sorry, Adamform, MOVA Adamform's website. They have pricing up and I'm looking now. It is for the combo, which comes with two RFD6s. It's $1800. This is pre-sale, of course. MSRP is $3200. But... JJ Shankles: Yeah. Jerry: The so the printer is a thousand. The combo with one RFD six is fourteen hundred to RFD six is eighteen hundred, which means the RFD six is four hundred bucks. Roughly. So in order to fully max this thing out, you're looking at four hundred times six plus a thousand. You're looking at about. JJ Shankles: Mm, yeah, would make sense. Jerry: Pre-sale dollars you're looking at about 3,400 so It's not going to be cheap that's pre-sale JJ Shankles: But that's, it's cool that they have the option to attach so many together, but that is always one of those, like, no one's really gonna spend that much. Jerry: Yeah, no. I learned so everyone that's watching this video, they know that nobody that has a bamboo lab X1 carbon or an H2D or what or a Crowdy K2 plus nobody has more than like two CFS is and if you do, it's because you've got multiple printers. You don't have more than two of them connected to one machine and. This actually kind of. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Unless you're a business making money off of it and thus it makes sense to attach that, you know, like people who are like, ⁓ I'm selling, I don't know, eight, plus eight color prints. Jerry: Yeah. And it kind of blows my mind because I actually would think quite a number of people would have at least two AMS or CFS connected to one machine, but most people just don't have the, they just don't care at all if they need too much waste. So they don't even, they don't even connect multiple. It's like, I've got one attached to this machine, one attached to this machine. So the fact that you can do six is kind of a gimmick. However, it's just software like JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Jerry: I don't know why I don't know why I mean software and maybe a little bit of power right like JJ Shankles: Yeah, power limitations I could see. Jerry: But anyway, so. JJ Shankles: But, and yeah, and the whole cable management of all of it becomes so big. that's why I only have two CFSs connected to all of my, even though I have more CFSs, it's like, the whole, just becomes a mess of PTFE tubing and cabling and keeping everything, it's a mess, yeah. Jerry: ⁓ it's a mess. That's a mess. Yeah, it's a big mess. So I will say with the fact that MOVA is allowing up to six of these RFD6s tied to one machine, this is absolute 100 % pure speculation. I've not heard anything from anyone at the company. This really seems like they might actually be headed down the route of allowing you to multiplex RFD6s between different printers. JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Ooh. Yeah. Jerry: So why would anyone say you can have more than six machines tied to one printer when no one ever does that? Right. The only thing I could possibly think of is you've got like, if you've got six machines multiplexing on one printer, the only difference is you've already got a, you've already got a buffer tube or a buffer, a buffer system. So why not just buffer it between printers? JJ Shankles: ⁓ Box, yeah. Yeah. Jerry: The reason I say that is because two reasons A I just told you why would you have six also B they did tell me that they are working on Advanced software to control multiple printers within the slicer So think about how Creality has their Multi printer management system and in my opinion they do it better than everyone else They're the only ones that JJ Shankles: ⁓ yeah. Mm-hmm. Jerry: do it in an effective manner in my opinion. And they do, but it seems like MOVA is trying to take that to the next level. So, speculation. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Yeah. That would be crazy. Like if they could do that, that would make it so people would buy six of these. Like if it could be your fulfillment management system and you have six of these and all 36 different colors and materials and then from your printer or from your computer you say, I want to print ABS in these two colors go into this printer and these colors go into this printer and... Jerry: Yeah. JJ Shankles: Yeah, that would be a filament management dream. That would be incredible. Jerry: At that point, the RFD6 is not a multi-material, multi-color switching device. It is your filament storage. Because if that RFD6 can connect to literally any of your printers, then you don't need it to be like... Like I said, this is all pure speculation, but... JJ Shankles: Yeah. Mm-hmm, yeah. Yeah, because that's a lot to manage. Like, to get all that to work, the logistics of all of that to work well is like, that's a lot. Could be done. I'm sure someone could figure it out. It'd be impressive. Jerry: So I don't want to hung up too much on it. ⁓ ⁓ yeah. So, yeah, yeah. All right. So we've got we've got five minutes left. So there's a lot here that I haven't talked about. We've just talked about like how the actual machine works. So ⁓ what's the use case for 12 nozzles of most people are only printing with let's just say most people only print with six colors. What's the use case for 12 nozzles? Okay. You can have two nozzles. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Okay, yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Jerry: for each color in your RFD-6, one being a .4 nozzle and one being a .8 nozzle. So now you can print one color with different size nozzles, still no purge, still no waste. can have, know, JJ, you love the one and a half or the one millimeter nozzle, one and a half. You could have a .2, a .4, a .6, a .8, a 1, a 2.4. JJ Shankles: Hmm. Massive nozzle 2.4 millimeter nozzle. Yeah Jerry: all for one color, right? And no purge. ⁓ So you. JJ Shankles: Yeah. The slicing, though, is the one that every company pushes back on and says, ⁓ well, it's really difficult to slice with multiple layer heights. Jerry: It's difficult to slice multiple layer heights, but it's coming. It's not going ⁓ to be a dead software algorithm forever. It's coming. When is that? I don't know. ⁓ So what else can you do? Okay. Everyone has been in a situation where they click print and we're in a world now where clicking print you walk away and it just works. Like except the one time that it doesn't just work. JJ Shankles: Yes. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Jerry: But for the most part it just works. Well, when it doesn't just work, your nozzle clogged. Like, you had TPU and you bunched up the filament in the nozzle and it's jammed or PLA and you accidentally print it too high. Who knows? Okay, there's sensors to detect when the flow stops and then it can just cut the filament and then exchange the nozzle and just put a new nozzle in and then keep printing. So now... JJ Shankles: Yeah. Whoa. Jerry: when you have your when your nozzle is jammed and can no longer print and like it's happened to me where I clicked print. went to work and then six hours, seven hours later I came home and it said, ⁓ yeah, we stopped printing like, you know, five hours ago, bud, you know, just been sitting here wasting electricity. JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Wait on you, the bed's hot. Great, cool. Jerry: Yep. It could have exchanged the nozzle, put a new unclogged nozzle in and then gone by gone about his day. Yeah, like that's a big one. That's a big one for me. ⁓ And you can't do that with the U1 with a Bonseq index because your filament is tied to that tool, not that nozzle. Right. Or sorry, it's tied to the the other tool with the clogged nozzle. In this case. JJ Shankles: Yeah. That's a pretty big one, yeah. Mm-hmm. Yes. Jerry: It all goes into one tool, you just change the nozzle. So that's a functionality that you don't get. Actually, the different nozzle size and the clogged nozzle is functionality you don't get with these other systems. ⁓ So if you do get these new features and it is truly no waste, it like a lot of people are complaining about print speed, but they also complain about JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Jerry: wastage, right? So like now you get no wastage, you get other fun- I don't know. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Yeah. Basically, it seems like the time would probably be comparable to the H2C. ⁓ The big difference would be, can it print well? ⁓ And that'll be just something that it'll have to see. Another big difference it compares on their website is that the accuracy of everything, because it's all coming from the same tool head. Jerry: Yeah. JJ Shankles: versus the multiple tool heads, a big issue that the U1 had to solve is like printing with multiple tool heads, you have to have them all perfectly aligned and in sync or else your colors will be, and just slightly off, looks bad. Jerry: Yes. So let's piggyback on that. And if it's OK with you, maybe we could extend a couple of minutes. I know we don't want to stay too much over 30, but piggybacking on that comment about alignment and alignment of calibration. The Mova or the Palette 300, it's got four different cameras on this machine. They do different things for calibration or AI. JJ Shankles: Yes, yeah, yeah. Hmm Jerry: checking and this is like not AI that's bothersome, right? Like, hey, you don't have a build plate kind of thing. Like good, good things. One of those cameras uses a similar technology to what the Bontech index uses. It actually, when it, when it exchanges the nozzle on the tool head, it drives that nozzle over the camera and it's a macro lens camera that says, Hey, you're not aligned. You need to be moved 0.001 millimeters to the left or to the right. JJ Shankles: Yeah, yeah. Jerry: So now you've got one tool, 12 different nozzles, and if one of the nozzles has worn a little bit and the orifice of the nozzle is slightly bigger or smaller, can still, ⁓ can software calibrate that XY offset. And you don't have to like, I've seen like the way, what are those? I've seen the way IDEX printers calibrate XY offset. JJ Shankles: Whoa. Mm-hmm. Jerry: It's a manual process and it's real pain in the neck. This, it just drives over the camera, it's done, and then it starts printing. Now your layers are stacked perfectly. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Wow, that's really cool. Yeah, using a camera to calibrate X, Yeah. Jerry: So that's a software that we've seen or we are in the process of seeing with the BondTech index. I'm not really sure that I saw that 12 months ago, so I don't really know if that's still the thing. there's the software team for the Atom Form Palette 300 is very passionate. I mean this in the nicest way possible. JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Jerry: I could not get away from, so I was talking directly with the software manager for Adam form Palette 300. I wanted to leave and I couldn't like, I mean this in the nicest way possible. He just kept talking about, and we're adding these features into the slicer and these features and these features and we're, we've done this and all. And I'm like, I wanted to hear all of it, but like I had, I had other business to attend to. And I say that because. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Yeah. Jerry: They're not taking orcaslicer. They're not forking it, putting their color scheme on it, and then walking away. JJ Shankles: Yeah, that's awesome. Like that's, I think the biggest thing is doing software well and the fact that they're doing it sounds like they're trying and they care. That's a big difference in whether this project will succeed or not is how hard working and how much the software people care about their project. Yeah. Jerry: Yeah. I know what one thing one thing this is software based JJ when you printed your massive ⁓ weaver what's it called the yarn weaver yeah when you printed your loom how many parts was it JJ Shankles: No, the loom. The... yeah, yeah. A bunch. 20 or so. Yeah, it's a bunch of large parts. Yeah. Jerry: like 20. That's actually less than I would have thought, but okay. So these bigger projects, these larger scale projects that need 50, 60, 70, 100 parts and you print them in different colors, how do you manage that? You put them all in the slicer, you slice it and you send one plate at a time. And when that plate is done, you're like, wait a minute, ⁓ did I print this one already? What do I need to slice and send to the pernex? Make sure you've got a checklist, everything. the way you do it now is in orcaslicer, you can already slice like five build plates at once. JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. Jerry: You can slice them into build places at once as you want, but you can't send them all to the printer at once in a manner that allows you to know which ones you have and haven't printed. It's like a user experience thing. Well, for the Atomform Palette 300, they have a print queue. When you send it all to the printer, it keeps it grouped up and you can send 5, 10, 15 groups. It doesn't matter how many groups. JJ Shankles: Mmm. Yeah. Jerry: But the printer keeps track of print files and groups. It knows you've already printed that file for this group or you haven't printed it for this group. JJ Shankles: Yeah, that's awesome. Because, yeah, on some printers you can send all the plates all at once and it comes quarter-batched up, but it doesn't tell you, you've printed one and two, you need to print three next. That's a great feature, yeah. Jerry: Yeah. And, I'm telling, I'm telling this, the software manager, I'm like, that is the dumbest, stupidest, best thing. Like how difficult is it to and implement that? Like a day's worth of coding, if that four hours and the user experience just skyrockets with something like that. So JJ Shankles: Yeah. Something simple. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Jerry: We're running late, but I think you get the idea. This company seems to really truly care about the user's experience. It seems to care about print quality, adding in new features. We're not just seeing, ⁓ it's a new printer that mimics the X1 Carbon and mimics bamboo. They seem to be doing different things, even hardware wise. It's definitely hardware wise. JJ Shankles: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that's exciting. I'm a lot more excited about this than I was at the start of this episode. Jerry: I know, and I feel like I talked your head off so much and I don't know if I gave you much time to talk, but... JJ Shankles: No, no, yeah. I had a lot of questions and a lot of them got answered here. And that's exciting that it sounds like the company cares a lot, ⁓ because that's the big difference of a Kickstarter just to make money versus a Kickstarter to really create a great product and spend the development time on the software to make it a good printer. It'll be interesting to see. Jerry: Yeah, I think there's a lot to see, you know, as much as I don't think this is going to happen with any brand new company, we could be, you know, we could be snaked. I don't think we are. I've seen it in person. Other creators have seen it in person. It's at least real right now. Right. So. JJ Shankles: Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. would say, as always, don't pre-order until a YouTuber, until you can see a YouTuber actually have it in their house. I wouldn't pre-order it personally. Jerry: Yeah. Yeah. Until someone you trust online has produced a review on the product that you will receive, it's all beta and it's all hearsay. So yeah. JJ Shankles: Yeah. Mm-hmm.
