Josh DeMage: Welcome back to Tripall Sports Talk. I'm Josh. That's Roy. No Bryce today. We are going to jump right into it. Pod 154. We're going to jump right into the NFL. We just completed week six, already six weeks in. Roy Clapp: you Josh DeMage: And we're going to start on Thursday night football. Seahawks went to Denver to face the Broncos. Game went to overtime, but the Broncos get out of there with a win. They led the whole game and then almost blew it. But Broncos get out of there with a win over the Super Bowl champions. Then over to London. The Texans go into Jack or go into London and beat the London Jaguars 34-31. then took us to the Noon Slate. The Patriots at home took care of the Jets 26-19. Panthers go into Philly without Jalen Hurts for the rest of the year. 25-14 win for the Panthers. Steelers go into Tampa win twenty-six to nineteen. And the Browns at home. beat the Ravens in a defensive battle 13-10. Bears go to Atlanta and almost blow. They had a huge lead. but hold on. 31-23. Roy Clapp: that was bad. Josh DeMage: Saints, another team that almost blew. They had a big lead. 34-27. Saints win in New York. Titans get on the board. Their first win of the season they beat the Indianapolis Colts in Indy. 26 to 20. upset of the week probably Rams host the Arizona Cardinals in LA. And the Cardinals get out of there. Six field goals, not a touchdown for them. 18-16. Cardinals win. Excuse me. Chiefs host the winless Chargers and they keep them winless. 22-6. Bills, toe-to-toe with the Raiders. I've been impressed with the Raiders. They play a lot of close games this year. Bills still find a way to win. 33-30. Takes us to Sunday Night Football. Cowboys go into Lambeau, and they didn't have it. 23-13. Game was a lot more skewed than the score looked. Packers win on Sunday night, and then the Commanders go to the 49ers. and they do not get a win in San Francisco. Actually, Santa Clara. 23 to 17 Niners. before we talk about any of the games, I want to go over our record from this week. Roy went ahead and had the best NFL Roy Clapp: Okay. Josh DeMage: week. nine and five. Me and Bryce both won back at eight and six. some game one game that Roy got over. Both of us. Thursday night football. He had the Broncos to win at home. Roy Clapp: yeah. Josh DeMage: I got one over both of them. Saints and Giants, I predicted that one. And then Bryce got one. He got the I mean, he's a Browns fan at heart, not a Bears fan. he had the Browns over Roy Clapp: Yeah. Josh DeMage: the Rav Ravens. those so we all had one that we all picked separate and got it. okay. Right, any of those games you want to talk about or situations or anything? Roy Clapp: I know, I mean, the games, the team, I just kind of want to talk about some teams, you know, you got like the Rams are one of them there, you know, they're two and four right now. That team, mean, it's all been a scheduling to me how like some of these teams are two and four, three and three, know, then like the Ravens. I mean, I know that they're good teams, so they get a tougher schedule, but the Rams had to travel, had to come back play. They've been, mean, East Coast, West Coast, know, they went, That's the same with the Ravens. The Buffalo Bills have been the same way, but somehow Buffalo's five and one. I don't know. They just keep, they got Josh Allen who just keeps winning. But these teams, Josh DeMage: Yep. Yeah. Roy Clapp: these good teams just keep, it's so crazy what they do to do these teams that just, you know, fly them everywhere. And it's injuries are piling up. It's just crazy how things Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: are going. I just don't know. I just don't know how you, they gotta do better with the scheduling. I know you give these better Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: teams the tougher schedule, but you've got to do something better. Josh DeMage: Yeah, I think those international games 'cause they've really, you know, they're they've invested into it and it's really tough Roy Clapp: Yeah. Josh DeMage: on some of these teams. Like, you know, the Cowboys, they played the Ravens in Rio and then on a Sunday and they I guess Neither the Cowboys or the Ravens could get back that night. So they had to stay in Rio. So they didn't come back till Monday. And then they played early Sunday the next week, so you're already in a short week on that. It just just yeah, it's just it's just tough when you travel overseas, especially or out of the country. Roy Clapp: Yeah. Josh DeMage: Yeah, I agree. I thought there was a lot of close games this week. A lot of these games came down the wire. so that was entertaining 'cause I got to watch football all day Sunday. Yep. Roy Clapp: A lot of leads that got almost got, that almost got, I mean, like the Bears, the 49ers, know, teams that just about blew it. Josh DeMage: Yep. I agree. but I I do agree with you. I kind of want to talk about some teams more than I want to talk about some games. Colts, man. I don't know if you I mean, I'm sure you remember, but the Colts don't own their first round pick. They've signed Daniel Jones to a long-term extension. They have almost nothing at the receiver position right now. this team is I mean, they lose to the Tennessee Titans at home. They're Roy Clapp: and fired their GM today. Josh DeMage: winless. Fire their GM. They traded two first round picks for Sauce Gardner, who's playing just not good. the Colts that they're in that sticky situation where you're like they can't blow it up because they don't own their pick, so like there's no reason to, but like kinda feels like they're just stuck in mud, not going anywhere. Another team I want to talk about is the Seahawks, Super Bowl champion Seahawks. really feel like they they're just missing that run game. I know their defense is a little beat up. Darnold hasn't played great. I know he's kind of coming off that what glute injury from week one, but they they just have no run game. And I just Sam Darnold, I think, is a good quarterback, but he I don't think that offense is designed to just sit and drop back, you know, 35, 40 times a game. And so they just really need to get something going. and they they haven't. Again, like you said, the Rams. I'm Roy Clapp: It's probably why you see a lot of Josh DeMage: not. Roy Clapp: That's probably why you see lot of Jonathan Taylor to the Seahawks now. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Yeah, I mean I could see the Seahawks going to get a running back. I mean they have they took a first round guy like Jadarian Price. Like I I the end of the day he's a first round running back. Are you really gonna trade probably a s a second at the worst? Maybe a first to go get Taylor? I I don't know. I don't know if you know if you invest that much. When you have a first round guy who you just took. another team I want to talk about is the Eagles. really feels like, you know, they their offensive line's been banged up. Lane Johnson retires. Jalen Hurts is out for the year, might be out for the rest of his career. We're not going to get into that this episode because there's just too many question marks, but you never want that for any player, what he's going through. but man, it it just feels like they got hit by a freight or you know a a train the last w two weeks. And you know, Barkley hamstring injury and you're paying him a lot of money. no AJ Brown really feels like the Eagles are kind of at a loss. They've lost four straight at this point. And another team, you know, I and I I I I love them, but man, the Dallas Cowboys are also stuck in mud. they don't have they have a first round pick, but it's the worst one of either the Packers or the Cowboys. Let's be real, it's gonna be the Packers are gonna have better record. So the Cowboys are not gonna own their first round pick. they're playing really bad. I mean, look really this is supposed to be a high powered offense with a good enough defense. I ha in the last two years I have not seen a defense play worse than this. And I'm not saying that their defensive players are that bad. They just play so bad. They don't cover anyone. They don't get pressure. They can't stop the run. Roy Clapp: you Josh DeMage: They don't do anything well anymore. And they're coaching. Brian Schottenheimer just looks he just looks lost and overwhelmed. So does the defense coordinator. but man, and their offense is not doing anything. I mean, they're putting up 13 points. Roy Clapp: Okay. Josh DeMage: With one of the best offenses in football, and they have four first round picks on the offensive, or three, excuse me. Three first round picks in the last like six years on the offensive line. They're all playing well. So it's I it just it's they look lost. I'm not saying it's anyone's fault, I'm not saying it's Dak's fault, I'm not saying it's the player's fault, I'm not saying it's the coach's fault. Just as an organization, they're lost, and it it's horrific to watch. And the last team I want to talk about is the 49ers have been riddled with injuries. Really the last two years, but this year as well. Five and Were they six and I don't think they've had their bye. Six and maybe. Five or six and I'm not okay, six and Roy Clapp: Sex and I'll yeah sex it out Josh DeMage: And they look good. And they are good. Very iteral injury riddled. They have almost nothing at the receiver position if Mike Evans isn't playing, which he's not going to be in the future for a little bit. So hats off to their coaching staff and their players because they look as good as they've looked, and they are not healthy at all. So good for them in a really hard division. So that's what I wanted to say. Ooh. Roy Clapp: Last, one more thing I wanted to say was the Chargers, a team that's Josh DeMage: No, yeah. Roy Clapp: just injury. I mean, they lost two more players this weekend. They just, and this Mike, or what's his name? They're Arthur, office coordinator, Josh DeMage: Mike McDaniel. Roy Clapp: McDaniel. There is no, that experiment is not going well. They're already talking about pulling some play calling from him. It's just that team has got, mean, and you know, they haven't won a game yet and they just, injuries are just piling up for them too. There's rumors that, you know, they may trade Herbert, but I can't imagine doing that, but you never know in this type of situation. Josh DeMage: Tell you what, for you know, for a Chargers, their offensive line is so horrific. They have two great young tackles, they just cannot play. They just they're not on the field ever. they have nothing at the receiver position outside of Vlad McConkey, who realistically cannot be a number one with his size. He's a slot receiver. Roy Clapp: And he's heard. Josh DeMage: And he yeah, well he's yeah, now he's hurt, but like I'm just saying that is not a guy who's going to carry a wide receiver room. Might play well, but not gonna carry anybody. but of all the years, I know we've talked college football to be historically bad and the Chargers, who usually don't pick nearly that high, have a chance to go get a guy like Jeremiah Smith, who the Chargers don't need a quarterback. They don't, you know, if they're picking one or two, they don't have to take a quarterback. I feel like that is a match made in heaven if you're a Chargers fan. If you could be so bad and walk out with Jeremiah Smith, who who people believe is a generational wide receiver, obviously has to pan out. feels like that's a match made in heaven. Obviously the draft is seven months away, long way away. Chargers could Roy Clapp: yeah. Josh DeMage: win five games and they're not in the top five. So I'm just saying, but I just wanted to point that out. Feels like a perfect situation if it worked out. Okay. Roy Clapp: Yep. Josh DeMage: I don't have much more NFL wise. Jump into our predictions for week seven. no Bryce here. He's gonna pick put his picks in later, but won't be on the podcast. so I don't know what he's got. I'll actually I'll I'll do two for him. I'll go to where are they? The Browns at Titans and I will put the Browns because he's a Browns fan. And then his secondary team plays Thursday night, the first game we're talking about. the Panthers, Patriots, the wrong P team, will go to Chicago. So I'll put the Bears in for him. so those picks. So Roy, we'll start it with me and you. we'll alternate. How about that? I'll go first and then you'll go first and we'll go back and forth. So I'll start it. Patriots Roy Clapp: Sounds good. Josh DeMage: will go to Chicago play the Bears. I think this game I this should be a good game. the Patriots way travels the way they play football. They got AJ Brown back. I think that the Patriots can win this game, but I like the Bears. Roy Clapp: I'm gonna go with the Patriots. Josh DeMage: Next one, Roy for you, Steelers will go to New Orleans to play the Saints. Roy Clapp: It's well, it's in Paris and I'm gonna go to Saints. Josh DeMage: good point. You're gonna go Saints. Yeah, I could see this one going either way. I'm gonna take the Steelers. I just trust their defense to slow down the Saints a little bit. I did not spell that. Goodness gracious. next one for me. 49ers will go to Atlanta to play the Falcons. I'll take the 49ers in this one. Roy Clapp: Yeah, I'll take the four-an-hour. I think the Falcons look pretty bad. Until late, but I'll take four-an-hours. Josh DeMage: Yeah. I mean, they just don't look they they need some I I don't know what they need, actually. I shouldn't say that. I'll just skip. Next one, Roy for you. Browns will go to the Tennessee Titans and play in Tennessee. Again, Bryce has the Browns. I already know that. Roy Clapp: I'll take the browns. Josh DeMage: Yeah, I'll also take the Browns. I Don't think the Titans are very good at anything. next one, the Colts will go to Minnesota coming off a bye week last week. I'll take the Vikings because I think their defense is just going to cause havoc. But the Vikings have not scored like almost any touchdowns. So, you know, if Jonathan Taylor can find the end zone a couple times, they have a chance, but I'll take the Vikings. Roy Clapp: The Vikings' defense is too good. I'll take the Vikings. Josh DeMage: Yeah. For you, Roy, Battle of the AFC East, Dolphins will go to New York to play the Jets. Roy Clapp: Give me the Jets. J-E-T-S. Josh DeMage: Yeah, J-E-T-S-Jets Jets Jets for me as well. next one, Bucks will go to the Panthers. I don't know if Baker Mayfield's playing. I haven't seen it. I know he's gotta be getting close because he wasn't supposed to be out too long. I'm still gonna take the Panthers, but I think the Bucks the Bucks have hung around. They beat the Cowboys and they hung around the Steelers. so I think that they could find a way, but I'm gonna take the Panthers. Roy Clapp: Yeah, I'll take the Panthers. I just don't think they I think the bucks are still not that good. Josh DeMage: next one for you. Bengals. Ooh, this is an NFC North battle. Bengals will go to the Ravens. I believe Lamar Jackson should play because he was probably close last week and they held him out, in my mind, probably for this game. They didn't think they'd lose to the Browns. I expect Lamar Jackson to play in this game. Roy Clapp: If Lamar plays, I'll take the Ravens. Josh DeMage: Okay. I I'll be able to remember that. in Baltimore. I'm gonna do the same thing as you. If he plays I'm gonna take the Ravens. caveat if he doesn't play. but I'll know that. Next one for me, Giants. Go to the Texans. I'm telling you the Giants are going to bottom out here. They just don't have a good schedule, then they're not good. your boy is now the starter, the sounds of it. And JJ tried to do a little comeback last Roy Clapp: That's what I hear, but that's it. Josh DeMage: week, but the Texans, even though I don't think they're that good, they're also not bad. I'm gonna take the Texans. Roy Clapp: The Tex, I am going to take Texas too. They are playing much better. Their defense is coming around. They got Marvin Harrison Jr. Their offense is starting. CJ's start out looked a lot better this week. Yeah, it's tough for JJ to come back and you to go against that Texas defense. So, Texas defense, that's going to be bad. Josh DeMage: Yeah. For you Roy, Broncos will travel to Arizona to play the Cardinals. Roy Clapp: Krakas. Josh DeMage: Yeah, I think the Broncos offense is really struggled. I think they the Cardinals defense is not very good. Cardinals offense is pretty solid, I'll give them that. But I think this is a get get well game for the Broncos offense. get some energy. Take the Broncos as well. For me, I got an NFC North battle. I'll take is the Packers are gonna go ooh to Detroit. That's a good one. Packers look much better. I don't think they're great. I think Josh Jacobs is gonna play in this game. So it should help their run game. Their offensive line, though, is the problem. You wouldn't know that watching the Cowboys game. I'll take the Lions at home. I just think they can outscore Roy Clapp: I am going, man, this is a tough one. I am going to take, I'll go ops, I'll go Packers. Josh DeMage: Alrighty. For you, the Rams are gonna travel to the Sin City and play the Las Vegas Raiders. Roy Clapp: You know, I am gonna go with the Raiders. They've been close to some of these games as a home and Rams haven't looked great a lot so. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Yeah, I mean the Raiders really have hung around. I'm I've been impressed with their coach. Just can't pick against the Rams. No Devontae Adams. Maybe Puka Nakua gets fed like a lot. I'll take the Rams. Next one. Ooh. Chiefs are going to the 12th man in Seattle. Roy. Roy Clapp: I'm gonna go with the cheese. That's all right. Josh DeMage: it's mine. I lo no. it's okay. Roy Clapp: I'm gonna go cheese. I just think Seattle Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: their chiefs defense is too good. I just don't think there was no running game right now. It's gonna it's weak for Seattle. Josh DeMage: Yeah, this this is a hard one for me because I do agree with you. But Kenneth Walker returns, and I know how that motivates a team. You know, I'm gonna use Seattle in this case. That motivates Seattle to do not let this guy beat us. He just came from here. but I do agree. I think the Chiefs defense is the difference maker. I'll take the Chiefs, even though I know the Seahawks will find a way. that was that's Sunday night. I kind of steamrolled through past that. That is Sunday night game. That should be a really good one. Takes us into Monday night where we got a laugher currently. Cowboys are gonna go to Philly. I'm gonna go first on this one. Roy Clapp: Okay. Josh DeMage: The Eagles offensive line is banged up. I think Barkley's gonna play, but I I don't know. It's kinda fifty-fifty. They're playing with a backup quarterback, and it ain't gonna matter. The Eagles are gonna win because the Cowboys cannot get a stop. Roy Clapp: I'm gonna take the Cowboys. think Eagles last week without Jaylen Hurts still looked terrible. I just think too many injuries are just piling up and it's just not gonna look good for them. Josh DeMage: Yeah. and then that is it for the week. By weeks for the week. The Bills, the Jags, the Chargers, and the Commanders. So those are our picks for the week. So I'm going to go into our overall record for NFL after what, six weeks? Yes. Bryce leads the NFL record 57 and 35. I am one behind Bryce, 56 and 36. And then of Bryce, Roy is two behind, one behind me at 55 and 37. Roy Clapp: Okay. Josh DeMage: So we're all jumbled up here in the NFL, real close. I think that's going to take us to college football. Roy Clapp: All right, I'm going to start off this week with college football. going to read the rankings. One of the ups or biggest ups, it's the biggest losings of the top 10 this year, this weekend. Let's pass again. A lot of top 10 Georgia loss. We'll get into that. Let's see. Number one is Miami now. BYU is two after the Notre Dame beat. Ohio State is three. Notre Dame is four. Georgia falls to five. Indiana six, Ole Miss is seven, Texas Tech is eight, UCLA is nine, Utah is 10, Tennessee is 11 after beating Alabama and in Kentucky is at 12. There's your top 12. Let's go into some scores here from this last week. Like I said, there was a lot of good games this weekend. A lot of controversial games. I want week seven, not week eight. Georgia got upset at home by Auburn 27-24 and it was a good game. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: BYU beats Notre Dame on a controversial last second incomplete pass. There was technically one second still left and they did not let them have it. So what a turn of events there. Miami had to come back and beat Florida State in two over times, 43-35. Ohio State in a 9-0. Ohio State wins 19 to 15. I don't know if guys see this game. Fourth and and four. Did see the last play? Fourth and four. Indiana has a chance to go, got a chance Josh DeMage: It watched the whole thing. Yep. Yeah. I watched the entire game. I saw every play. At it. Roy Clapp: to have it and Marsh, Nick Marsh, add a bounce in the end zone. I don't know how he didn't know where he was at. That was, mean, the quarterback threw. Josh DeMage: I mean, I'ma be honest. To me though, the the ball let him out. I mean well, I mean he was tracking the ball. If that ball's thrown Roy Clapp: Yeah, but you got to know where you're as a receiver, you know where you're at. Josh DeMage: I mean I agree, but s I think he w he was so open he was just kinda like tr trailing the ball knowing he wasn't gonna get it tipped. But still Roy Clapp: Yeah. Josh DeMage: the ball, it didn't need to be that far to the sideline. He had the whole end Roy Clapp: I know it did. Josh DeMage: zone. Like it I mean, yeah, I mean it trust me, I'm sure the guy didn't try to throw it to the corner right next to the line. I'm I'm not saying that, but yeah. Roy Clapp: Yeah, it was just crazy. Just couldn't believe that that was just Indiana losing their 20, I think a 23 game win streak or something. Tennessee at home beats Alabama Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: 26 to 10. Wasn't really even that close. Most of the game, Tennessee Alabama just did not look very good. Florida goes into Texas and was 27 Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: 24. Let's see. Kentucky goes in Oklahoma and wins 21 to 20. I don't know. Let's see what's going to our I got to get to our stuff. College football last week, Oregon beats Nebraska close game barely beats them. Toledo wins against Eastern Michigan, James Madison whips up on Georgia State, Ole Miss. Yeah, that was I forgot about that one. won. They kind of beat up a Missouri Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: at home 31 to three. Duke gets beat by UNC there in Duke. We had Air Force beats UNLV since Josh picked against us, against the Air Force. Josh DeMage: I can Roy Clapp: And then Michigan beat Penn State, a new quarterback, kind of looked better in the second half, but still we'll see how it goes. Held on to beat Penn State after only 80 yards in the first half. So what a week of college football, it was a great Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: week. I don't know if you saw the note in the Navy game, UTSA Navy game. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: That guy died, rappelling from the Raptors. So it was just a big week. Our picks this Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: week, Bryce went eight and two, had a good week. He lost Notre Dame and he lost Bama, which both Josh and I both lost. Josh was one behind at seven and three and I was two behind. That's six and four. lost, I had Indiana, I had Duke, and that was the other two. And Josh, you lost UNLV. Josh DeMage: Yep. Yep. Yeah, that I I'm actually glad Bryce isn't Roy Clapp: Anything for college football. Josh DeMage: here. I did I wanna talk about I have a question. I have to make sure I know the team. yeah, I forgot. I've gotta ask, this is the question going around. Twelve team playoff. Notre Dame cakewalks Roy Clapp: Mm-hmm. Yep. Josh DeMage: their schedule to make sure they don't get a loss. They lose. If they lose to number one Miami November seventh, are they in or are they out? Roy Clapp: They'll be out in my opinion. Well, okay. Josh DeMage: I agree. Roy Clapp: I, it's going to be interesting this year. cause there's really, I mean, there's really no top tier teams and the problem like sec teams are beating up on themselves now. And it's the same thing with the big 10. you know, Jaylen's, Jaylen's saying is a hurt for our state. He's out. So they're in a backup quarterback, you know, so really, you know, Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: you look at these Big 10 may only get two teams in and SEC may only get two teams and when they pass they got three or four teams. The problem is like the Big 12 is gonna they may get four teams in. They're just not I mean there's there's I mean BYU, Texas Tech are undefeated Utah still undefeated who hasn't played anybody. Houston is six and one and they don't play each other a lot of times just like the rest of so their schedules Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: are a little easier it's just It's funny, know, the Bruins are leading the Big Ten at six and you know, four wins. It's just gonna be, Notre Dame could still get in with the fact that these other teams are beating up on each other and they may have two losses and two losses may get you in pretty quick. Josh DeMage: Yeah. I still think they should be out if they if they I mean they don't have a good win. They would not have a good win on their Roy Clapp: Now have a good one. Josh DeMage: rec on their thing. Not one. You don't have one good win, you shouldn't be in. Roy Clapp: I agree they don't have one and I don't even know who they finished up with at the end of the year. it's just, I know Miami. Is there even another 13 that they could lose to? Josh DeMage: How how good does my big twelve winner prediction BYU look? Just saying. No big deal. Called that one. Pick BYU to win the Roy Clapp: Is that who you picked? I thought you picked somebody else for some reason. Josh DeMage: big ten big twelve Yeah. I said BYU. Roy Clapp: I had Texas Tech and they're still undefeated. I mean, Notre Dame Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: could lose to SMU. They're not too bad. yeah, the rest of our schedule, Navy, Boston Josh DeMage: True. Roy Clapp: College of Syracuse, pretty bad. yeah. right, Josh DeMage: All right, let's roll on to the week eight. Roy Clapp: week eight picks here. Let me get the scores. All right, the first game we're gonna talk about is it'll be a Friday night game. Whoops, yeah. Friday, gosh dang it. I'm clicking on stuff that I don't wanna click on. The first game will be Duke is at Virginia and Virginia is a one and a half point favorite. Josh DeMage: Yep, I'll go first. I'm taking the Cavaliers at home. Roy Clapp: Yeah, I will too. think the Cavaliers will win that game. think Duke just didn't look too good last week for that game. Let's go find this one if I can find it. We got Baylor on Saturday at noon. Baylor plays Kansas. Baylor is a three point favorite. I'll go first. I will take, ugh. I'll take Baylor on the road. You want me to write these in or you writing them in? Josh DeMage: ma no. yeah, can you write I'm also gonna go Baylor. Roy Clapp: You're going to go Baylor. at the you're gonna see me I'm doing this on my phone Virginia I forgot we didn't have Bryce here Josh DeMage: Yeah, I forgot he does college football ones. Roy Clapp: All right, next one. Let me find it. gotta find Akron at Kent State. Kent State is a three point favorite. I'll let you go first on this one. Josh DeMage: Nick Sabans can state. Three-point favorites. They're two and five. Holy Christ. They just Roy Clapp: And so is, well, an Akron's one and six, so. Josh DeMage: lost 29-2. What in the world? What did I just look at? Akron gotta be terr they're one and Okay, well, I guess it makes sense. I'll take Kent State. Good lord. These teams are Roy Clapp: You'll take, you'll take Kent's Kent's state. Gosh, who do I take? Yeah. Yeah, because their both teams are bad. I'll take Kent State. Maybe Bryce will take Akron and we can just be, who can. Josh DeMage: They'd win then. Roy Clapp: as lucky as he been. All right, next one is Oklahoma goes to Mississippi State. Oklahoma is a four and a half point favorite. I'll go first. Josh DeMage: Yeah, I'll take over. Go ahead. Roy Clapp: I'm gonna take Oklahoma. Josh DeMage: I'm also gonna take Oklahoma. Roy Clapp: I thought you might take a... Josh DeMage: They have played two tough teams Roy Clapp: Take care of yourself. Josh DeMage: in a row in a row though. Roy Clapp: Next one, let me find it here. Old Miss goes to Texas. If I can find it. Josh DeMage: Ooh man, that's a good one. Roy Clapp: BASS Goes to Tex, where you at? Damn. I found it. Ole Miss at Texas. And Texas is a three and a half point favorite. Josh. Josh DeMage: th I know Texas has some injury stuff and I don't know if this guy's gonna play. I can't let that decide it. They just don't lose three in a row, I'll take Texas. Roy Clapp: I am going to take Ole Miss. I think Ole Miss is playing hot and Texas has got a lot Josh DeMage: That's a coin flip for me. Roy Clapp: of things going on wrong with them right now. Next one, Houston. It's the last game of the college night. Houston travels to Utah. Utah is a six and a half point favorite. Houston is six and one and Utah is six and I'll go first. Josh DeMage: Uh-huh. huh. Yeah, I'm taking Utah. Roy Clapp: I was taking Utah as well. at home. Josh DeMage: They're solid. Roy Clapp: All right, Air Force at Wyoming. wait, is that, yeah, Air Force at Wyoming. Josh DeMage: I'll take the damn Air Force. God heaven forbid if I pick against they win. Roy Clapp: Yeah, screw, that's on Friday night and Air Force is a five and a half point favorite. So you're taking Air Force. Josh DeMage: Yep, sadly. Hey, look at what I'm wearing. Roy Clapp: Good. And I'm sure Bryce will take care of for us. I don't even know what you're wearing. Josh DeMage: Can you see it? There he goes. Roy Clapp: Can't see. Then let's see. Next one. Tennessee at South Carolina. And South Carolina. Josh DeMage: What? South Carolina's two and a half point favorites. Roy Clapp: South Carolina is a two and a half point favorite. And I'll go, Josh DeMage: my what in the world? Roy Clapp: I'll take South Carolina. Josh DeMage: Holy fuck. Roy Clapp: I'm sure Bryce will take Tennessee. Josh DeMage: you didn't last week and they won. Roy Clapp: app. Josh DeMage: it's cause they beat Florida. Who did Florida just play? Mizzou? No. Roy Clapp: No, Florida just played. I'd have to look back, I forget. Josh DeMage: I have to look at it. I just not what I Roy Clapp: They played Texas and beat Texas. At Texas. Josh DeMage: That's right. So okay, that I South Carolina's coming off a bye then 'cause their last game was against Florida. So they've had two weeks to prepare for this, I see. And it's at South Carolina. I'll take Tennessee. Roy Clapp: You're taking Tennessee. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: All right. Illinois hosting. gosh. I'm in the wrong week. Dang it. I messed up and I went to look for Josh DeMage: Oregon. Roy Clapp: that. Is is host in Oregon. Josh DeMage: I'll take Oregon. There's no chat we win this game. Roy Clapp: You don't think you'll win? I'm trying to think. Oregon's Josh DeMage: No shot. No I don't think they'll be within fifteen. Roy Clapp: only a 9.5 point favorite. Josh DeMage: Yeah, I would take Oregon spread. Roy Clapp: I am taking Oregon as well. I'm going to take Oregon. Oregon's not very good, but Michigan versus Indiana. Josh DeMage: And then the next one Yeah, Illinois not either. Roy Clapp: Michigan, Indiana's a seven point favorite. go for, I mean, I'm taking my Wolverines. Their defense is good. Josh DeMage: I'm not. Roy Clapp: I know you're taking Indiana. I I'm hoping. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Bryce is taking Indiana, you can write that down too. Roy Clapp: Okay. I will. All right. And so that's a college football. Josh DeMage: Okay. Okay. So updated college football record. Bryce leads this one fifty-three and twenty-five. Roy is one back fifty-two and twenty-six. Of Bryce, I'm five back, four back of Roy, forty-eight and thirty. To a combined overall record, Bryce leads at one ten and sixty. Roy, you are three back of him, one seven, sixty-three. And I'm three back of you, Roy, six of Bryce, one four, sixty six. Still very close. You know, two or three Roy Clapp: Now it's closed and Josh DeMage: can happen in one week, so Roy Clapp: yeah Josh DeMage: We've really all hung around. Really the reason Bryce is ahead is he has had he has had the best college football s week. Let me count. One, two, three, four of the last five weeks, Bryce has had the best college football record. So that has that has been his what has gaven him given him a little cushion. Okay. Roy Clapp: Yeah. All right, on the Major League Baseball. Josh DeMage: I don't have anything else for college football. Yeah, let's do some baseball. So we have our World Series matchup, Roy. none of us got it c exactly correct. the NLCS, which was the Brewers and the Dodgers, was quick. 4-0 sweep for the Milwaukee Brewers. They get the revenge from last season, where they got swept by the Dodgers. And they've been hanging out for a little bit. The World Series will start Friday night. And it will be in Milwaukee. I don't know. I don't really remember how the thing gets decided. now. It used to be the All-Star game. I know it's not anymore. Maybe record, I'm not sure. Okay. And I Roy Clapp: It's the record in baseball. It's the best record for when you go through baseball. Josh DeMage: Milwaukee had the best record in baseball, so that makes sense why it didn't matter who. And then on the American League side, the Rays were up one nothing, and then the Cleveland Guardians were stormed out to win two straight to go up two to one, and then the Rays handled business and won three straight. to take it four to two. Rays win the American League. The Milwaukee Brewers win the National League. Two of the lowest payrolls in the sport matching up So it will be Rays and Brewers for it. I believe me and Bryce both predicted the Rays to go to the World Series. I know that I had the Dodgers. I know that Bryce had the Cubs. Did you have the Dodgers as well? I don't remember if you did or not. Roy Clapp: I had the Dodgers and Yankees. Josh DeMage: Okay. So yeah, so Bry or Roy didn't get any of Me and Bryce I know both picked the Rays over on the other side. So yeah, I mean Very similar teams. Both put the ball in play a lot. Both have some speed. both have good pitching. I think this could be a good series. I think Milwaukee is better. I I think most people in the industry believed whoever got out of that national league probably had the upper hand. I still think that I do think the Rays could win this series, but I I just don't know if their if the Rays lineup is going to be able to beat the Milwaukee Brewers lineup. I think their pitchings can you know, fluctuate. I think it's evenly matching areas. but I personally think the Brewers lineup will be better than the Rays lineup and I think that will be the difference in my opinion. Roy Clapp: I think pitching kind of goes towards the Milwaukee, but this is going to be a good series. the Josh DeMage: Yeah. Yeah. Roy Clapp: Rays are hot. The Rays are red hot. So the Brewers, but the Rays, they just, they look good. Now, you talk about payrolls, Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: but these guys are over a hundred million. So it's not as low as you think Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: they would be. these two teams are constructed similar, but the bomb play. They're hitting a lot more home runs than you'd think they would. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy Clapp: I really think, as good as the Brewers are, really think the Rays have the chance to win this series. Just with the way they're playing, I Josh DeMage: Yep. Roy Clapp: think their defense is probably about the same. mean, they're not maybe better, but I really liked the way the Rays are playing. Josh DeMage: Yeah, I don't know the metrics of how the Rays are playing defensively in the postseason, but outside of like shortstop. Roy Clapp: playing better than the postseason. Josh DeMage: Yeah, outside of shortstop, I can only speak on the regular season because that's really all I I know, like stat-wise. the Rays infield has really been pretty poor this season. Again, outside of shortstop, because Taylor Walls is just a magician with the glove. But, you know, the Rays have got, I I think I can't speak of the postseason again. I think the Rays have gotten away because their pitching is so good. They have strikeout pitching. that they've gotten, you know, they haven't shown that defense as much, you know, to make as many errors. Boston strikes out a lot who teams they play the most. The Yankees strike out a lot. Even the Blue Jays, I would say, this season struck out more than they had, you know, last year. Milwaukee's not going to do that for the most part. They're going to put the ball in play. I think that could be a I think you could see the race kick it around just a little bit more than the Brewers. I think that could also go in their favor. So but yeah, we'll see. I don't think if we have anything else. We'll we'll obviously, or I shouldn't say obviously, but we well, I think no. Obviously we will have another episode before the World Series ends. What's up? Roy Clapp: I do have a question for you. I have a question for you. So here's just a little trivia question for World Series. When was the last time two teams who have never won a World Series met? Josh DeMage: I have no clue. Roy Clapp: I have a guess? Josh DeMage: Never. Okay nineteen fifty Roy Clapp: has to. Josh DeMage: seven. Roy Clapp: No, not that far back 1980. The Phillies and I think it was Phillies in Kansas City. Played each other Phillies beat the Kansas. Yep. I saw that trivia today. Josh DeMage: Wow, didn't know that no. Yeah, you if you asked me about who wins World Series like timings, yeah, I couldn't tell ya outside of like. I'd say I could go Roy Clapp: No, I just, was something somebody I heard. Josh DeMage: back to like Roy Clapp: Yeah, first since it's been 46 Josh DeMage: Yeah. all right. Roy Clapp: yards since the first time champion series. Josh DeMage: Nice. Alright. I think that's all we got for baseball. We'll we'll talk, you know, once the series gets going, see what we can see, but right now, yeah, just can talk about what we believe is gonna happen. I guess that just say so takes us to our miscellaneous Roy. And I don't have a game today. I actually don't. I actually was trying to think of one. I mean I can I actually you know what? I will. I will have one. Roy, do you have anything? Roy Clapp: I don't, because I thought we were doing this tomorrow night, so I didn't even come up with anything today. I just usually go come to trivia. Josh DeMage: Okay. Then I will do what I I looked it up beforehand. I know we've done this before. Roy, going in reverse order, can you tell me the last ten first overall picks in the NFL draft? Roy Clapp: no way. Nope, couldn't even do it. I mean, know Mendoza, Mendoza was last year's. Fernando Mendoza. Josh DeMage: Okay, well we'll start twenty twenty six. Okay, that is correct. Twenty twenty five. Roy Clapp: who was that? Drake May? Josh DeMage: No. Roy Clapp: 2020, 2020. Josh DeMage: It was a quarterback. His team just won their first game this week. Roy Clapp: Cam Ward. Josh DeMage: Cam Ward, go back one more. Also a quarterback. Bryce. Bryce would know this one. Roy Clapp: gosh. This is Caleb Williams. Josh DeMage: Caleb Williams. the reason the Bears got Caleb Williams was because the team before that got the number one pick and sucked. Quarterback's having a good year this year actually, but this team is the reason the Bears got Caleb Williams. You remember the trade? Roy Clapp: a little Mac, right? There you know. I don't hear that. Josh DeMage: No. What? Roy Clapp: I don't remember. Josh DeMage: Twenty twenty three, the well, it it actually happened in the Panthers Roy Clapp: What? I don't know who they, I don't... 2022. Josh DeMage: traded with the Bears two first round picks. The one of them ended up being Caleb Williams for Bryce Young. The year Roy Clapp: for Bryce Young. And DJ Moore. Josh DeMage: before that was the was the last non quarterback to go number one. Georgia defensive Roy Clapp: Uhhhh Josh DeMage: end. Roy Clapp: Georgia defensive end. I have no idea. I can't think of that. Josh DeMage: This is the hardest one. Trayvon Walker of the Jaguars. Weak class that year. Roy Clapp: Yeah, would never got that. Josh DeMage: And then they also had the the first pick before that year. Jaguars again. Roy Clapp: Trevor Lawrence. Josh DeMage: Trevor Burrus Yes. Before that, LSU's quarterback. Twenty twenty. Roy Clapp: Joe Burroughs? Josh DeMage: Joe Burrow. Before that, the Arizona Cardinals selected their franchise quarterback number one overall. Roy Clapp: Tyler Murray was then. Josh DeMage: Kyler Murray, twenty nineteen, first overall pick. And the year before that was his Kyler Murray was was Roy Clapp: Jeez. Baker Mayfield, I knew that was. Josh DeMage: the replacement of this quarterback, Baker Mayfield. And the year before that in twenty seventeen, the last one we'll do, defensive end who has just recently been traded over the last offseason. Superstar Roy Clapp: What cut? Josh DeMage: defensive end. Roy Clapp: Miles Garrett. Josh DeMage: Miles Garrett of Texas A and Those are your last 'cause we started Roy Clapp: He was, did not know, I did not remember him being an overall pick. Josh DeMage: Yep, so in that order backwards, Mendoza in 26, Warden 25, Cal Williams, 24, Bryce Young 23, Trayvon Walker, 22, Trevor Lawrence, 21, Burrow 20, Murray, 19, Baker, 18, and Miles Garrett, 17. Last 10 over Roy Clapp: guys. Josh DeMage: first overall picks. Honestly, not too many true bus. As you're used Roy Clapp: No. Josh DeMage: to seeing. Not saying all these guys are Hall of Fame caliber number one picks, but like they're all still in the league. And they're all playing. I mean, I g Kyler Murray, yes, they're not maybe number one overall pick players, but there's they've hung around. They haven't been true busts that are out of the league in like two or three years. So that's one thing. okay, I think that's all Roy Clapp: Hmm. Josh DeMage: we got, Roy. Roy Clapp: All right. Josh DeMage: Hit the like button, subscribe, comment, and we will see you next week. Peace. Roy Clapp: out.
