Josh DeMage: Welcome back to Triple Office Sports Talk. I'm Josh. It's Bryson Roy over there somewhere. NFL Week one is back. College football. Baseball's in. We're in the full swing. it's as busy of a schedule as we're gonna have in the podcast world again. We're gonna jump right into it. I'm gonna rip through the scores of week one and then we can talk about some of the games. first off, Wednesday night, Super Bowl, former Super Bowl champions hoping at home. Seattle plays the Patriots in a rematch of the Super Bowl. Ugly game. Darnold out. It's what? Second, third play. doesn't come back. Brice: That's why. Josh DeMage: Seahawks come back and win 13-10. then the next day in Australia, the Rams play the Niners, and the Niners really beats shit out of the entire night. 27-7. Then we take it to Sunday in the noonslate. Lions at home going to overtime. They do sneak out with a win over the Saints 31-30. Bengals 33 over the Buccaneers 27. the Ravens go into Indy and run all over the Colts. 41-23. Henry has three touchdowns. The Jaguars just dismantle the Browns 34-10. Jets go into Tennessee and get a win 23-10. Bills, Texans, one of the better games of the week. back and forth. Bills squeak it out 36-31. Steelers take care of the fourth string quarterback, Falcons, 20-13. Bears put up ungodly offensive numbers in a shootout 59 to 37 in Carolina. Minnesota beats Green Bay with a fourth quarter frenzy of points. 39-22. Raiders take care of the Dolphins 27-13. Kirko James. Chargers, stunner of the week, right here. Chargers just look awful. They lose twenty six to fourteen to Arizona. Eagles win a close one against the Commanders. I told you it's always close with those two teams. I don't know why. then Sunday night football. Giants really the score's closer than what the game really was. The Giants win at home twenty eight to twenty. And then last night, Monday night, the Chiefs play the Broncos, and it really wasn't close either. It was Kenneth Walker show. thirty one to ten, Chiefs win. before we jump into our games of what we want, I'm gonna go over the picture quick. You guys both tied third and second, nine and seven. we missed a lot of the same games. We all missed four of the same games, other than that it was sprinkled in. I lied five. You're a lot right, you're right, I missed it. Five. And that was the only five I lost. You guys both had two sprinkled in somewhere else. You guys are nine and seven and I go eleven and five and obviously that's our record for NFL so far 'cause it's week one. all right, games. I don't either one of you want to go first and talk about a certain game. Roy: I don't really have a game. My thing is look at the scores. def there was no defense all fucking weekend. I don't know if it's because of the way they do train the in the new way they're doing training camp. They're just not letting they're not letting them hit. They're not they're they're not playing much. But I mean it was offense, offense, offense all all weekend. You didn't see much defense if it it was a lot of turnovers. in the few games I got to watch. but the de there was no defense anywhere up and down the the league and so it it just it it just I just surpr surprised. Some teams that you know that traditionally have good defenses, like Houston, like the even the Broncos, couldn't stop anybody and so it just it just it just surprises me, shocked me about how little of defense there was for the for the first weekend. And it set a record, I think is what I read at for an opening weekend most most touchdowns s most points in a scored in a an N F L weekend or whatever for for for a Brice: Well, and in an NFO game, the the Bears Panthers game was the most points ever scored in the first first game of the year. Yeah. Roy: Yeah, but I think for the whole weekend I think it it was the most Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy: points of of the whole squ the whole weekend by i by all the games combined. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Bryce, you got anything? Brice: I'm not gonna harp on how much I hate overseas games too much. It's ridiculous. I mean, there's plenty of studies showing like even just traveling, New England playing like the Chargers. New England is statistically gonna play worse because they're in a three hour time zone and they're three hours ahead of what they're actually playing. Whenever they're starting at seven, it's ten o'clock for them. They won't get over 'til it's one AM for them. Now you're sending them sixteen hour flight. It's noon for them or whatever, but it's like I It's just ridiculous. You got a forty year old quarterback getting off a sixteen hour flight and then playing like dog shit. So one thing I wanna say is that I wouldn't count the Rams out. I know they look terrible. I still think they're gonna be one of the best teams in the league. I just Josh DeMage: Yeah. Brice: don't think that you can take a week one in another country around the world as that's how this team's gonna play. I think next week they'll come out and probably put up forty points. That offense will be clicking. Roy: Did you s did you see that they landed twenty six hours before they played the game? I mean who I mean the Forty Niners at least were there for a couple of days. Josh DeMage: Yeah, that was Brice: Yeah. They thought it was gonna be smart. Josh DeMage: they were there for like seven days. They were there for like week. Yeah. Well it it was too drastic. Yeah. Brice: we yeah. Roy: The seven days. Yeah. And then the the Rams show up twenty six hours before the game time. Josh DeMage: It was too it was so drastic both ways. Like it was either gonna whoever won, it was gonna be look like a genius. Like if the Rams would have won that game a Roy: Well, 'cause the ra the r the r 'cause according to the Rams they sent some some study guy over and did a study Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy: for him that said this this was the best Brice: Yeah. Roy: way. Well that guy should Josh DeMage: Well, if the Rams would have won this game, everyone would have been like, Well, why'd the forty niners go a week early and just stay there when they could have just flown in a couple hours, you know. So it I I agree though, I think, you know, forty eight hours is little ridiculous, but you know, two or three days, sure. But like I a week, I mean I I don't know. I mean I don't have a whole lot. I mean, I look at some games like the Lions. I didn't think the Lions looked great. I mean the Saints to me are really bad. And they r I mean they had beat. They went for two. You know, they sh this game could have went overtime. Jets impressed me a little bit. I I I'm not I don't think a whole lot of the Titans either, but still, I mean they they pretty much dominate the game for the most part, both sides. so I was impressed by that. Mm, Chargers again, week one. You know, I I'm not saying the Chargers are gonna have a bad season. Could the Chargers make the playoffs? Yes. But man, Roy: Mike McDaniels did not look called a good game at all. Josh DeMage: yeah, they just did not look good. And both the primetime games late, Sunday and Monday. I didn't think the Cowboys defense looked good. And not being biased, maybe the first game I've ever watched where a team got two possessions in the second half and scored touchdowns on both of them and lost. Kind of a wild Brice: Yeah. Josh DeMage: like you don't see that very often. But that should tell you how good the Giants nah I shouldn't say game plan, but like execution was. Brice: I love the way they play football. They do what they want to do the whole game and control the pace of the game the entire time. Josh DeMage: Yeah. and then, you know, the other, the Monday night game. Again, week one rust. Like again, I agree with you, Roy. I think it's because of the way they practice now. Defenses just they're not ready. They just weren't. Because they're not hitting. They just don't want the injuries. I get that point of view, but like, yeah, it shows. Man, did that Broncos offense look horrific. Again, are they gonna be better next week? I'm sure. But good lord, d Roy: Lot of drop passes. But Nick's didn't look good either. Josh DeMage: And Bo Nicks, I have all the confidence world, he'll bounce back. Horrific game. Just he played horrific. but again, it's week one. It's not time to panic in it in any way, you know. but the team of the week for me, I'll just say this. Thought the Bengals looked really good. That defense has always been their problem. They can always score. Created turnovers. Again, the Bucs play a little bit of a, you know, riskier offense, I'll call it with Baker. But man, that if that Bengals defense can play defense. gonna be a tough team to beat. and obviously the Bears. 'cause we all talked about how Carolina is at least a good defensive team. I mean they just got throttled at all times. Brice: Yeah. Josh DeMage: it was really the run game, even when with Williams running, just ran down the throats all night. But yeah, other than that, I don't have a whole lot. Yeah. I think that's it for NFL. Roy: Picks. Picks for next week. Josh DeMage: Yep. week two picks. I did not do that. I did not think about that. I have things here. I Brice: I'll fill it as we go. Josh DeMage: Okay. Yeah, I'll r I'll go. Thursday night football. The Lions will go to Roy: Yeah. Josh DeMage: the new Buffalo Bill Stadium, the opener of the stadium. Now they played preseason in there, but still. I'm excited. I'm I'm Brice: I didn't they had. Josh DeMage: cu I'm excited to see the stadium. Roy: Yep, we went by there when we went in New York. It was actually pretty cool. Josh DeMage: Yeah, I've heard it's r you know, it's supposed to be gorgeous. I'll go first. I'm gonna take the Bills. I I think the Lions could win this game. This is a very awesome game to get early in the season. and it's not cold yet. I think that plays in the fact that the or helps the Lions because you know, I don't think they play well outdoors for the most part. But they just did they didn't look great week one and Bills looked like they were firing all cylinders offensively. I'll take the Bills. Brice: I would've taken the Bills too though. I thought the Lions defense didn't look very good at all. I mean, most teams didn't, but the Lions especially and the Bills I think Josh Allen's gonna put up a lot of points against them. Roy: i b Josh Allen's he's just so good. you got the Bills. And DJ Moore looked really, really good with with Josh Allen. Josh DeMage: Next one takes us to the noon slate. only Thursday, just kinda kinda on normal schedule for this week. Bengals will go to Houston. Ooh, that's also a really good game. Roy, I'll let you go first on that one. Roy: b I'm gonna take let's see, hold on. Houston's clear down there. Josh DeMage: Bengals at Texans. Roy: Ooh. Houston two and a half. I am going to take Gosh man. That's a tough one. I'm gonna take t the Texans in this one. Josh DeMage: Mm. Brice. Brice: I'm actually gonna take the Bengals. I I do think that the Texans are a good team. I don't think their defense played very good against Josh Allen. Again Josh DeMage: Yeah. Brice: it's Josh Allen, but the Bengals I would say all around have a better offense than the Bills do. Josh DeMage: Yeah. This one's a coin flip for me. I'll take the Texans based off I hope I think d D'Amico Rhines is a better coach than the Bengals coach, and I expect him to have that defense ready to play a little bit better. I'll take the Texans at home. next one. Packers go to the Jets. I'll take the Packers, even though I didn't think they looked very good. I think they're better than the Jets. Brice: Yeah. Roy: Packers. Josh DeMage: Next one, Saints at Ravens. I'll go first again. I don't think this one should be close, so I'll take the Ravens. Brice: Yep. Roy: Ravens. Josh DeMage: Next one, Eagles, Titans. I'll go first again, I'll take the Eagles. Roy: Well there's some bad matchups. Eagles. Josh DeMage: Well, the first Brice: Yeah, there is. Josh DeMage: two were really good. Yeah, we got some stinkers here. Brice: I agree. Josh DeMage: next one. This one's back to being a good one. Vikings will go to Chicago to play the Bears. Bryce, I'll let you go first. Brice: I am taking my bears. I think our offense is gonna be unstoppable. Josh DeMage: I'll go next. I I'm worried about the quarterback situation, even though I'll tell you what, Justin Jefferson played so good last week against the Packers. I just don't trust the quarterback situation right now. I'll take the Bears. Roy: I that Viking defense. I'm gonna take the Vikings. I thought they ran the ball well. They put up some points. And Carson Wentz didn't Josh DeMage: Next one. Yeah, I thought the Vikings looked really good, even with Roy: actually look too bad. Brice: I mean Josh DeMage: He did not Brice: yeah, the Packers I think they more blew that game than the Vikings won it. That's like their six three loss now. Josh DeMage: I agree. Well, it was like a snowball. Roy: I agree, but I thought that Minnesota actually moved the ball decently. Josh DeMage: Yeah. I mean Justin Jefferson was out there making some great catches. Brice: Yeah. Josh DeMage: next one, Browns go to the Bucks. I don't think this close. I'll take the Bucs. Next one, Steelers go to the Patriots. Ooh, I think that one could be a good game. Bryce, I'll let you go first on this one. Okay, go ahead, Roy. Roy: I say p I'm taking pats. Josh DeMage: Yeah, I'm gonna take the upset, I'm gonna take the Steelers on the Road. Brice: I actually am as well. I don't think this I don't think the Steelers look very good and I think or the Patriots look very good and I think they're gonna have a lot of issues with that Steelers defense. Josh DeMage: One thing I do think this the p will help the Patriots is they played so early in the week on Wednesday, they had a lot of time to prep prepare for this game. but still I'll take Next one Panthers go to the Falcons. I'll go first on this one. I'm gonna take the Panthers on the road to beat the Falcons. Brice: I'm in agreement with you actually. I I took the Falcons last week and their offense played well, but I think the Panthers defense will slow down a little bit and the Panthers actually looked pretty good on offense even though the Bears were giving up everything. T or Bryce Young actually looked like calm this year and was making some good plays. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Starting to get some weapons w there. He's always never had Brice: Yeah. Josh DeMage: anything. Roy: Yeah, I'll go Panthers too. I d I think Falcons got kinda lucky with Cooper Rush as their quarterback. Josh DeMage: Cowboys legend. next one. Raiders go to LA to play the Chargers. I'll I expect the Chargers to bounce back in a little bit. I'll take the Chargers. Brice: I agree, but I I do think this game could be fun. Josh DeMage: Even though the I tell you what, I don't think the Raiders looked as Roy: I agree. Josh DeMage: bad as people thought. Ash and Genty played really well. Man, Brice: Yeah, you've got. Josh DeMage: he was good, but. Roy: I'll go t I'll go chargers too. Brice: I'm going Chargers but I think this game could be close. I I don't like the the coaching setup on the Chargers. I don't think J Harbaugh McDaniel go well together. It's two completely different styles of offense. And they don't have the O line to run what Mike McDaniel wants or John Harbaugh wants. Josh DeMage: Next one. This wasn't a good one. This one was a banger of a game last year. Hopefully it's just as good. Jaguars go to Denver. Play the Broncos. I'll go first on this one. Tell you what, the Jags looked real good last week. I know they played the Browns. I understand. Broncos looked real bad. I gotta envision the Broncos and Sean Payton are just gonna hound it. I'm gonna take the Broncos at home. Brice: I'm going with Denver too. I think they're gonna have a huge bounce back game, you're gonna see that defense play very well. Roy: I agree. I I think the Jags are good but I th and it'll be close but I think Denver's gonna take it. Josh DeMage: Yeah. next one, Commanders go to Dallas, play the Cowboys. I'll go first. Expect the Cowboys defense to bounce back a little bit and I still am underwhelmed with the Commanders offense. I'll take the Cowboys. Brice: I agree, the Cowboys they were missing so many easy shots there at the beginning of the game li last week in the first half. I think if they connect on a few of those like pickings, drops and stuff, then they probably win that game. Josh DeMage: next one, Dolphins go to the Niners. I'll take the Niners. Roy: Niners. Josh DeMage: And then Seahawks go to the Cardinals. I just cannot take the Seahawks or the Cardinals over the Seahawks, even without Sam Darnold. I'll take the Seahawks. Roy: Seahawks. Brice: Who was it? Josh DeMage: Seahawks and Cardinals. Brice: I'll take the Seahawks. Josh DeMage: Alright, to Sunday night football. Ooh, another primetime game for these guys. Colts go to Kansas City, play the Chiefs. I'll be honest, I thought the Chiefs looked excellent last night. Excellent. Mahomes didn't play his greatest, but man, that run game was good and that defense was good. I'll take the Chiefs. Roy: I agree, I was surprised how good they were, so I'll take the Chiefs. Brice: let me see. I don't know who I'm gonna take in this one. Who I'll take the cheese. Josh DeMage: And then lastly, another two teams that have both played primetime games. Giants go to LA for Monday night football to play the Rams. I will go first on this one. I expect Matthew Stafford to lock back in after a pretty terrible week out in Australia. And I thought the Giants offense played really well against Dallas. I still think their secondary is horrific. I expect the Rams to throw it all over on them, and I expect the Rams to win this one, even without Miles Garrett. Aaron Donald debut again, I expect. Brice: Yeah, I I think the Rams will Roy: Good, bro. Brice: win as well. I think you're seeing a huge bounce back game and they're gonna put up a lot of points even though I love this Giants this Giants team might be my new like Buccaneers team for the past few years. I'm gonna be picking them a lot. Roy: gonna go Giants. I think they've got a team that's got gonna disrupt some teams. I I think they got they're gonna be hot here early. So I'm gonna take the Giants. Josh DeMage: Okay. And then I think that's it. On to college football. Ooh, baby. Good lord. Brice: That's good. Roy: All right. College football, what a week what a weekend. I don't know if you got to watch some some big time games. some highlights of the games. Ohio State, Texas. I don't know if you guys got to see that game. You you Buckeye fans, Brice: That's the only game I watched. Josh DeMage: Golly. Roy: sorry. You lose twenty four twenty three on a l giving a touchdown with twenty four seconds left. What would you hey question for you guys about this game. I don't know if you guys got to watch it. Brice: That's the only game I watched Roy: You're Brice: this week. Roy: Alright, so you're up. Alright. You were up what twenty three seventeen going in going down and they're driving. Do you give a touchdown so you have some time left? Or do you do what Ryan Day did? And try to and try to keep him from scoring. Josh DeMage: The way Ohio State's defense has been the last few years, I understand why, but I mean yeah. Roy: But your offense I mean is supposed to I mean with Jeremiah Smith and everything, you had chance that Brice: Yeah, but they got shut out for like the whole fourth quarter, didn't they? Roy: Well, they moved the ball, they just missed a field goal, they just I mean there was some Brice: Yeah. Roy: t they they couldn't run the ball. That was their problem. But if you they could p they could pass the ball. I don't know, that was just my question. Brice: I never any sport, in my opinion, you play to win and like I'm gonna trust my defense in that situation like Ryan Day did. I just don't I just don't I don't know. It's a tough call, but I don't think there's any way that you expect to drive down the field in a minute and score a touchdown to tie a game. Yeah. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Well, and I maybe Roy: Well you only need a field goal to win, that's why Josh DeMage: play that kicker stuff played into that thought. You know what I mean? You know, he's already missed one. Roy: So I would I would have done it. I would have probably let him score. All right. So some upsets. Oregon getting beat by Oklahoma State 39 31. LSU just whips the crap out of Louisiana State 45 14. Michigan after a week one surprise. Looked actually look good. Beat Oklahoma 17 10. defense looked really good. Josh DeMage: They did. I was impressed with the defense. Yeah, Roy: Alabama, Josh DeMage: that was Roy: who had some troubles with Kentucky for most of the game, but then ended up winning 45-17 to a big fourth quarter. Tennessee won 45-24 against Georgia Tech, which was closer than what you think. Iowa squeaks out. A 16-13 win against Iowa State. That's a typical Iowa State-Iowa game. my god, that game is always Josh DeMage: I was gonna say that's what they do. That's a that's a that's like a ten point win for most teams, so Roy: I know that is like ridiculous. Every game is like that between us two. let's see. other games. Mississippi State. Duke beats Illinois. Illinois's defense. They gotta figure something out. Josh DeMage: No, they're horrific. Roy: just that didn't look very good. Some of our pick games. Let me get to that. we all miss Texas State be got beat by U UTSA. I got Texas, you guys had Ohio State. we all had Wake Forest. Mississippi State. Josh and I had, you had Minnesota, Bra Bryce, you lost that. I had North Texas, you guys had Un L V. North Texas won pretty handily. We all had Army. Army bar was down big and then came back, but they lost. Brice: Weren't they a crazy favorite too? Roy: they were. They were supposed to. No, they seven point favorites and lost. Miss Memphis got beat by Boise State. Josh and I had Ms. Boise State. Air Force. They were supposed to win or they were de they they had they had the they didn't even come close. And they came they came back but got beat. And then we all had Tennessee. We all had Illinois and we lost. You guys had Oklahoma. I had Michigan, I won. So pick wise, I finished seven and four this week. Josh, you finished four and seven. And then Bryce, sorry man, you went two and nine in that. Brice: Yeah. Josh DeMage: I'm gonna be honest. I think two and nine might be the worst score w any of us have had in four years of doing any sport. Like I I can we've been five hundred, you know, four and seven. Brice: I was thinking the same thing. But Roy: It was But hey, I will get I bet th the the games I'm picking right now, it's and even this week, they're one and a half point favorites, they're three and a half point f I'm they're close games. I'm not going with these big wide margins. Josh DeMage: Yeah. Still two and nine, I don't know if any of us have ever done that, so that's yeah, that's Brice: Well, Roy: I'm gonna go with the top Brice: I'm the guy who didn't have to eat thirty six waffles last year, so I'm coming back. Josh DeMage: That's very true. Roy: Yeah, true. All right, so I'm gonna go to top twelve right now. We got Texas now number one, Georgia two. They're looking really good. Notre Dame three, Indiana four, Miami five, Ohio State falls to six, LSU seven, Mississippi eight, Texas AM nine, Alabama ten, BYU eleven, and USC is twelve, Tennessee is fifteen, and Michigan is nineteen. You guys got anything for about college football before we do the picks? Josh DeMage: No I'll tell you what though I know Texas beat Ohio State. Texas needed that win so bad. Roy: hell yeah they did. Josh DeMage: If Texas would have lost that game, I tell you what, their season might have been over, basically. Not over, but going into SEC play with a loss, you know, you're probably gonna lose one in the SEC for sure. Maybe a second one. Again, I don't know Texas's schedule. I don't know if they play Georgia. I don't know if they play, you know, some of those schools, but. Just the flip to now have no losses going through and of a beating a team like that, that's that can just s I mean, it's a total flip of a season. So good for Texas. I mean good for them to get the win. So Roy: Yeah, the only the only thing I gotta say I mean Texas, I agree. Oregon, the team I thought was gonna win the Big Ten. I thought they were a final four team. I mean they're you know, the Dante Moore Josh DeMage: Yep. Roy: looked like a first round draft pick. Josh DeMage: He would have been the number two overall pick to the Jets if he declared and he said no. And he is a borderline third round pick right now. Roy: last year. And he is he is terrible this year. They're l and they spent twenty eight million dollars on transfers this last year. And they do Josh DeMage: You know Roy: not look they look terrible. I mean their offensive Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy: line looks terrible. Their defensive, I mean they can't stop anybody. and they're and Dante Josh DeMage: Yeah. It Roy: Moore is missing receivers. I just can't believe it. It's just it's shocking. And they may pick I mean Josh DeMage: Yeah. It blows my mind. Roy: They may they may ch it may get pick it up, Dan Lanning may get things going. I mean he's Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy: got two new new coordinators. Both his coordinators got new jobs. He's got a new offense and defense coordinator. Maybe that's what it is. But Josh DeMage: Yeah. Roy: man, man, I did not see that coming whatsoever. Josh DeMage: I'll tell you what though, to to decline to go the draft as a lock to go number two overall, I mean, I'm gonna be honest. Gotta be the stupidest thing I've ever heard, ever. I mean, Roy: Yep. I agree. Josh DeMage: okay, even if you truly thought, you know what, I'm not gonna go because I'm gonna go number one next year, what the hell does that make money difference? Or p you know. I just don't Brice: And this is a big class still. Like this is a good class. Josh DeMage: get it. I I just don't get it. Roy: Yeah. I don't it's yeah, he's I don't know. Yeah and Josh DeMage: I mean I know that he makes money in college, but like Yeah, I don't All right, let's go to our picks. Roy: Yeah. Nope. Alright. Any other anything else? Alright, first game Josh DeMage: hold on, hold on. Before we go, since those were our college football picks and our record, on overall for college football, Roy leads at twenty and eight. I'm three games back, 17 and 11, and Bryce is two games back of me, five of Roy, 15 and 13. So our overall football score, week zero, week one, week two, and week one of NFL, comes as, which this is the real tally. Roy in first place. He is 29 and 15. One game back is me. 28 and 16. And I'm gonna go off first place, because for our bet, it only matters if you come in first. Rice is five games back, twenty-four and twenty college football. I mean, just put an axe in you for you know this. But yep. so that's our I wanna go over our total Roy: Yeah. Josh DeMage: scores before we move on. So go alright. Roy: Well we and we got a lot of football left. That's the bad Josh DeMage: yeah. Roy: thing. my god. This is early. Alright. So we we're at week three. Josh DeMage: That that's not a bad thing to have a lot of football left. Roy: no, I can't wait. So alright, week three. This is kind of a down week, but I made these are all the games. I think they're all besides our three teams that we we have. I think every one of these are three and a half or better less, okay? So the first game is North Carolina versus Clemson. Josh DeMage: I'll go first. I'm gonna take Roy: And what's the line? Josh DeMage: I'm gonna take Clemson at home. Clemson is three and a half point favorites at home. Roy: And three point half favorite home. Brice: I will take Clemson as well. UNC quarterbacks have done me wrong in the past. Roy: They didn't look too bad last week. UNC didn't look that bad. Josh DeMage: Just take Bill. Roy: I I'm gonna take Dabo over Bill. I'm gonna take Clemson. I can't Josh DeMage: no Roy: take Bill. Bill is not a college football coach. He just Josh DeMage: Yeah.
