And I'm telling you, this thing weighs, this thing weighs a hundred pounds. Like dry, dry weight a hundred pounds. It is so heavy duty. And the coolest thing about it is is that however they did their fabric up top, like up top, so you saw it's the black top.

Jason: So when you're underneath of it, when you're inside underneath of it, it looks like it looks like it's being project the logo's being projected on the inside. It's the coolest shit in the world. Yes, it's like the it's like the logos from outside are see-through from the inside. It's you're gonna love it. It's so cool. It's just so cool. Jason: And I was like, bro, what's like what's up, man? You gave me you sent me a 10 by 10? And like did you like Actually actually I think it is a 12 by 12. I think it is. I I think I we will fit under under there comfortably, but it is not too big that it can't fit inside of the vehicle. Jacob Moreno: Obviously, you know as a parent, mean knowing how much you it costs to go be upset, you know 20 20 grand plus a team like You know when you do that like It just takes away. I mean, so that means they only played maybe four games

Jason: Dude. Yeah. Out of a a seven day tournament. Out of a seven day tournament. And a lot of those games are probably doubleheader or two games a day. So what did they play? Two days and seven?

Jacob Moreno: Yes. Yeah. Two days, yeah. Two or three days, yeah.

Jason: So that's just nuts to me. Like, I you sent me the video. I actually shared it on my Instagram because I I got the ver I don't know if I don't know if I shared your version or a different version where the kid was filming with his phone and ⁓ the kids were just going crazy outside in the middle of the rain. And I was just like, I felt for him. Like I felt for him because those kids, they've been looking forward to this.

Jacob Moreno: No, you shared the other one. Yeah. Yeah.

Jason: all year long and like I it just doesn't sound like a very Cooperstownish kind of thing. I just there's gotta be more to the story here.

Jacob Moreno: I mean, they said the weather was horrible. It's been raining for days, you know, from what I was reading, but still, I mean.

Jason: Why couldn't they bring why couldn't they bring them back then at the end of summer or something like that? Like reschedule

Jacob Moreno: I think a lot of it's due with, I mean, because when that ends, it's already football season.

Jason: Yeah, but you should at least offer that. Like, forget like, okay, let's just say, for instance, if it happens to be like that when we go, ⁓ and the option is you get four games and the rest of your tournament is canceled if you're not in bracket play. Okay. Or you can come back in the fall and we'll give you we'll give you your tournament in the fall and you might have to miss some football. My kids our our kids are saying, Yeah, we're gonna go. Well, I don't know. My kid might not miss football, but I would say that the majority of the kids would be like, Yeah, we'll skip a week of football.

Jason: To go finish our Cooperstown journey. I would like I just I don't know. It seems and then you it is odd. That's what I'm saying. Like it feels like there's got to be more to this story than just I I don't I don't know. I don't know if maybe something was given. Maybe we don't know. And I think at the PGI is when we're going to break into the mold of pulling a f aside a few a few select twelve year old kids that ⁓ we would like to get their input on going into the big field because this is the last tournament for most of them at the twelve stage. Jason: It's at that time now where Jacob and I are not interested in talking to eight, nine, ten, and eleven-year-old kids where they're not comfortable on the microphones. I don't want to have conversations with them privately, ⁓ as n them not being w like that's just not ⁓ that's just not a lane that Jacob and I have any interest in doing. There are other podcasts out there that focus strictly on kids, and by all means, the the more the merrier, have at it. It's just just not something that you and I

Jacob Moreno: Yeah.

Jason: want to dive into. Okay. But this is our boys' age, and they're they're all well, most of them are gonna be teenagers by the time we get there. So I think it's I had this who was I talking to about this. I was talking to somebody about this specific thing. And it maybe it was at the tournament this last weekend in Georgia. A parent brought it up or somebody brought it up as to like when are you going to start having kids on? And I was just like, we're not

Jacob Moreno: But this is also our boys' age. Mm-hmm.

Jason: Like that's not what we're doing. That's not of any interest of Jacob and I to be DMing somebody permission to talk to their kid on air. And I I just that's that's just sounds like a PR nightmare waiting to happen. And it sounds like you're pigeon your whole pigeonholing yourself into then another lane that you can't then get back out of. Because once you open that door, it's really hard. Like, what do you do? Do you tell the next kid no? Like, so

Jacob Moreno: Thank Yeah. Yeah, I mean the only kids, I guess to me the only kids I want to talk to is probably 16, 17 year olds that are recruiting or have been recruited. And hey, know, let's talk about, yeah, like hey, let's talk about the process, you know, what did you go through? What did you see? What would you change? You know, stuff like that, stuff that we have to look forward to.

Jason: I it's just not something Right, like the Knotzmeyers of the world. Right. Right. Right. Right. Yeah. Cooper. The Cooper Ootens of the world who are going through and finishing up their thirteen U season, going into fourteen, that are already a lot of these kids that we want to talk to, and hopefully we get a chance to talk to ⁓ maybe in Jupiter or or some of these other places that we might have an opportunity to go to, these are kids that have been already media trained. Does that make sense, Jacob? Or they're in the process of it and maybe we can help them.

Jason: get even more comfortable on the microphone to help them achieve their goals that they want to achieve by because we know that we're definitely not going to be their last interview that they'll ever do. So I guess that's I guess when it comes to the kind of kids or the when we want to have kids on, that's that's the the only lane that we're interested in. And it's no it's no disrespect to any of the younger kids, but I don't want to have a conversation with Brooks because it's just going to be huh, the what? Yeah. So

Jason: And I like I said, I don't want to have to ask permission to a kid's account that a parent is actually running. It just it's weird to me. I think it's weird and I don't agree with it. Jason: Okay. All right. So yeah. I I yeah, I can't remember, but I'm almost positive they were TBT before that, before they were hit dogs. And they were hit dogs I think what, two years? And then that fell apart and now and then that's when Ken Golden Okay. And then then Ken Golden speaking of which Ken Golden said that if we did you get the message today from him?

Jason: He sent me a he sent me a DM and he said, please DM him if we have Gary or Vic on the podcast. And I said, Well, that is happening. Number one, it's just a matter of when. We tried to do it in Florida, but it just didn't work out because Gary was coming back from Cooperstown. I was leaving Florida at the time. And it you know, I'll be honest with you, dude. It sounds a lot easier than what it really was in reality of driving two and a half hours north to Lake Mary to do a podcast.

Jason: when it just didn't it just the timing just wasn't right. The timing just wasn't right because when they got home, they had to go back to their real lives and their real jobs and then it was just the timing wasn't right. So

Jacob Moreno: Yeah, hectic. And you even said though, you know, with one vehicle you couldn't leave the family stranded the whole day.

Jason: Yeah, it was ⁓ it was just weird. It just didn't work out, it wasn't as easy as I thought it was gonna be. And I told him I was like, Listen, we can try in Atlanta, but I've got two boys that are gonna be playing Atlanta. Gary had two teams he was coaching in Atlanta, and then I think Vic was helping Pat coach the futures. and ⁓ I I mean Vic did text me one night, he sent me a screenshot of their pool, and he's just like, I'm ready when you're ready, like to come on.

But in my mind, some of the part some of the lure of the Little League World Series is having Japan and you know the like all yeah, all of those yes. Like I could not I could not be prouder to for my son to be part of an organization as much as I have been overwhelmingly proud of the whole Z T family and culture that we have been enthralled into in a very awkward situation, in a very uncomfortable situation. And it could have been really, really bad. And in instead it's went incredibly, incredibly well. And this is not this is not a shot to Marcus and MVP or any other club that's out there. It just happened to be that the opportun the that the that the the opportunity and the timing it at the right yes and it was a great opp it was just a great situation and it just it's ⁓ it's a testament, man, to good people doing good things for good people. And, you know, just from talking to you on the phone, it sounds like, you know, you, your family, HUD and the other families that you guys, they brought in all had a very good time and everybody was very appreciative of, you know, the team and the organization.

Jason: Yeah, I think ⁓ HUD told me HUD said that the that so they finished in the top eight at the World Series. Brand like we had we brought four kids in that they had never seen before and talked to before. ⁓ we implemented four kids into their roster. And I think HUD told me that this was the highest that they had ever finished ZT East ⁓ at this at this event. So ⁓ I will tell I will say this, and that is that the baseball was good. I cannot I cannot speak highly enough of ⁓ of the coaching staff. I mean, dude, I was blown, bro, I was blown away. I was blown away. And so was my kid. And I'm not gonna speak. I think I can speak for Gino. I know I can speak for Dom, but we s we we s we spoke multiple times about how incredibly well the coaches were.

Jason: with not just the the existing Z T group that we were that we went with, but also being able to implement four new bodies that they had no history with whatsoever and making them mesh instantly. It was just

Jacob Moreno: Yeah, making it feel like you guys were been a part of the team the whole year.

Jason: Yeah. ⁓ so I'm gonna give two shout outs. So Greg Jackson is the head coach of ZT East, and then I wanna make sure I say his last name right, but Alan Lechworth, I just call him Coach Alan, it's co it's Alan Lechworth, played at North Carolina State and Jacob I think that every I think that every team in America should have a coach Allen. He's that good. He's that good. ⁓ this guy has one of the softest voices, but the intelligence level, the baseball IQ that comes out of him is is remarkable. The way that so you know how pre-game you're doing a lot, you you're you're in the cage and you're doing your reps. Okay. It's just you're going through your routine. You're going through your routine. Coach Allen

Jacob Moreno: ⁓ that's good to hear. Yeah.

Jason: S does very, very specific things in the cage with different counts and implementing and trying to mimic who he believes is going to be on the mound against these boys. And he will stop a session and fix things that he sees. And it's not just a dad. Like this is a dude that played in the Great Lakes League. He played at North Carolina State. the the guy knows ball and the guy is not he's not arrogant, okay. He's not an asshole. He's he's not arrogant. He's just you can just tell when he's talking about baseball, he knows baseball. I never saw him not have a smile on his face the entire week. And he was always very gracious with his time. I just I'm just telling you, I wish everybody could experience Coach Allen for just a little bit of time in their lives. I think it would make baseball a lot better in this country. There's a lot of tournaments where they can't even put they can't even get they get the games off because umpires don't show up. So

Just be grateful that you got a freaking umpire to officiate the game and let it let it play out. If you don't like it, you're more than welcome to take an umpire in class and do it yourself. Jason: The families and the boys the boys all meshed incredibly well. that was also that's a testament. And that only happens, Jacob. The kids only do that if they're raised like that. If they're raised to have a chip on their shoulder and be pissed off because somebody new might be coming in and taking playing time, then that's and if that's how they're raised, then that's how they're gonna react in the dugout. And I can just tell you that I never saw that at all. ⁓ it's also a testament to This is also a testament to Beto and how he how he governs the youth programs of Z T throughout the country. Jacob Moreno: Yeah, yeah, he holds a standard. When it comes to the coaching and the kids and you have to meet the standard or you won't be on the team.

And I I ran into I ran into quite a few parents that were not even playing that were with younger groups, the nines, and with teams from other teams that we weren't playing. And everybody that I ran into, do you know that I not one person uttered one single negative word about Coach Greg? Not one. Like I could not find one complaint about Coach Greg.

Jacob Moreno: You were waiting for it too.

Jason: Which is I was I was waiting for somebody to bitch and moan and so that I could perk up and be like, Well, screw you, dude. You have no idea what he did for us. Like, and I made sure I made sure that everybody within within shouting distance knew what Beto had done for us. You know what I mean? And how he had how he had coordinated all of this for the boys to continue to play at this tournament and the PGI. So that is why I'm rocking the hat and I will continue to rock the hat.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Yeah.

Jason: Got ⁓ saw Isaac and Coach Dabasco and Coach Mac at one of the games. They showed up. They were there. ⁓ that was that was cool. They were there, they're there for the 17s, WWBA. And ⁓ they flew in a day early, sat right behind home plate for one of our games. Like literally sat right behind home plate for ⁓ for the game that Jonah pitched.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Hehehehehe

Jason: And ⁓ it was good to see them. And ⁓ that was probably another cool thing was that there was no there was no pissing match between coaches knowing that we were there playing with Z T, but that you know, this fall we're we're gonna go play with Canes. Like it was just God, it was just it was all it was all about the kids. It was great. It was great, dude. And I wish you could have been there because there was fifty people that came up to me and said hi and said, Jake was my boy. Jake was my dude.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah, yeah, it said you ran into somebody from Toledo. ⁓ Small room. Yeah.

Jason: Yeah. Yeah. Somebody from Toledo came with me. Yeah. No, it's not. It's not a small world. It's not at all. Not when not when it's

Jacob Moreno: It's a Jeremy, Jeremy, Jeremy Fitzgerald. His son is from Toledo and was playing with Georgia exposure nine.

Jason: Yes, that's exactly what was. That's exactly what it was. And

Jacob Moreno: Yeah, yeah, he messaged me. He goes, hey, we'll be down there. Maybe we'll play them. And I'm like, ⁓ I don't know. And then, I mean, he never messaged me and said that he, you know, ran into you. So I'm glad, and I'm glad you were getting good feedback from everyone.

Jason: Yeah, man, it's ⁓ everybody yeah, everybody's just incredibly supportive of the pod and the conversations that we're having. It was overwhelming the amount of people that I talked to that were very grateful that we we were not turning corporate on them in front of their eyes. That, you know, we were forty some forty some episodes in, almost six months in. And it very easily could have been corporate. It very easily could have been controlled by brands, I guess you could say. ⁓ and we have not done that. That's the beautiful thing about our partnership with Bargetown and Green River, they're a non-endemic partner. So we never get pressured into talking about things or not talking about things like we get pressured or phone calls to to skirt conversations or to tone it down from you know from other people that want to do that.

Jason: It's the beautiful thing. It's the beautiful thing about it. And they were very people that I talked to were very grateful that we're sticking to our roots with that and having the tough conversations without you know, it's not our goal to destroy this game because our our kids love this game and and they play this game. But our our our objective is is to speak the truth. So

Jacob Moreno: Yeah, to speak the truth and also give, you know, and I guess from the get go, we made it. did this because of giving the parents that had the same questions we do, but also the new parents that are coming in that don't, you know, that don't know what, what they're getting into and the insights that we know that we have and we can give them.

Jason: Yeah, you wouldn't think about it. Like at 50 years old, you know, I think about experience of I know, bro, I know, but at fifty years old, you know, I think about like experience like with media. Okay. Whether it's behind the camera or whether it's the podcast or whether it's, you know, photography. You know, I started doing that on a professional level around 2010. So I'm 16 years into that. And I still don't feel very I all right.

Jason: I feel experienced, but there's just so much yet though that I'm not I'm not really good at. Where I'm telling you, man, I feel like four years of travel ball feels like 40 years of travel ball. Does that make sense? Like four years of this every year being this a grind and looking at the anguish on other dads' faces as they talk to me at the railing saying, Yeah, this is this year's been this has been a tough year.

Jacob Moreno: Hmm. Yes it does.

Jason: This has been a really, really tough year. And I'm not gonna say your name because I don't want anybody to know that you're struggling this year, but you know exactly who you are. You know exactly how much I love your kid. And you and I had a very, very long conversation about my father and your father. And I just want you to know that ⁓ I heard you. I heard everything you said, and I listened to you. And I'm just letting you know that ⁓ it's very important, Jacob, that we do not We do not get what's a good word. That we don't get influenced by agendas. Because you and I you and I've talked about this. If there's one lesson that I learned very, very hard, it's a it was a very, very hard lesson was back when I was doing this in professional archery 10 years ago. And I was doing the same exact thing literally in professional archery. I I don't want to say I sold out.

Jason: But I I I guess from the outside looking in the surface, yes, I got detached from myself and I hooked my wagon to a group of individuals that sold me down the motherfucking river when times got tough. And in order to save face for them, they disassociated with the greater cause of what they asked me to do. And I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever let that shit happen again. Okay.

Jason: So I've never been in a position like this ever as a parent. And ⁓ I'm just gonna let I'm just gonna let you know ⁓ right off the bat. I did receive a phone call this morning. So damage control was in full fucking swing this morning, okay, from the organization. What they're just scared to death of what how how deep are we gonna go off the rails here tonight with having this conversation? And I I'm just gonna let you know I'm not here to hurt anybody personally, I'm not here to attack any organization, I'm here to tell you the truth. I'm here to tell you the truth of what happened because although you want to convince me that I'm wrong for how I feel, or you want to tell me that I that that my feelings are not really justified, or maybe I should maybe I should take my feelings and stick them in my pocket for another day. I have every right to feel the way I feel. And this week was one of the hardest I've ever had in my entire life as a parent because of this. Okay. Jacob, on one hand, I've got a kid that never leaves the field.

Jason: Okay. I've got a kid that is probably a select fest kid in a future. Who knows? Who knows? And then I've got a kid over here who just absolutely loves the game. He has, he has, Jacob, he has had this one's the nine, this one's the 12. And this one over here has had, I want to say he's had 20 to 25 World Series championships in the front yard. He's never lost one. He's never lost one.

Jacob Moreno: ⁓ she's gonna say that.

Jason: He's never he's walked them all off and he's never lost one. He's this is the one that has all of the imaginary baseball games in the front yard. He goes out there in his brother, his older brother's uniforms. He puts hats on. He goes out there with wiffle ball bats. He's got sometimes he has crowd playing on the speaker when he does certain things. It's the most incredible theatrical shit you've ever seen in your life. It's the sweetest thing in the world. The kid absolutely loves the game. Okay. And yesterday, driving home from Atlanta, Georgia, I had. To spend nine and a half hours convincing him that he didn't suck and to not give the game up. And you know what I'm talking about because you know that little boy. You know that little boy. And I'm gonna tell you that.

Jason: You do know the situation, and I will tell you that I'm not I'm not gonna like yes, I ⁓ you're gonna be you're gonna be my my my sounding board, but at the same time, I know that I'm not the only parent in this world going through this shit at all. And that is that's why we're having the conversation about it, okay? And that is that one of the hardest things to do, and I'm just gonna tell you exactly what happened. The hardest thing to do is is so ⁓ this past weekend was Father's Day weekend, okay.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Mm-hmm.

Jason: My kid is my kid does not suck. He's not he's not ⁓ he's not his older brother by any stretch of the imagination, but he sure as shit doesn't suck. He's pretty good at this game himself. Okay. He was thrown into a situation where I put I put a lot of this on me because I'm the one that thought that this was a good idea for him to have an opportunity to play in this event. I it it falls on my shoulders, Jacob.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah.

Jason: I'm the one that reached out and said, Hey, do you know of somebody that might be looking for somebody? Because the nines are going to be playing the exact same time the twelves are in Georgia. We're already there. He might not ever get a chance to play in this. Nobody's promised tomorrow, Jacob. So he might not ever get a chance to play in this event. I think it'd be kind of cool for him to play at East Cobb. We all know and we've all how many times have we talked about East Cobb, Jacob?

Jacob Moreno: Yeah. It's the Mecca, man. We've talked about it being the Mecca.

Jason: It's the Mecca. So my goal was for for my little nine-year-old to jump on a team. And we joked about it, me being a hypocrite, having him jump, you know, on a and be a pickup player or whatever when his other team was back here grinding away. But we don't separate for these big weeks. We don't do it. We don't do it ⁓ as a family because it's too hard emotionally on us and it's not fair. So we took him down. I I was able to I was able to get him on a team to play in this event.

Jacob Moreno: the end.

Jason: And ⁓ I thought that it was a good idea. I thought that it was a good idea. It's my fault, just so everybody knows. This is all my fault, dad's fault. And ⁓ he was the only one that was was gonna be when HUD was going over to play with ZT this week, he was going over with three of his current teammates. So that was a pretty easy transition. Brooks being nine, it's a lot different, folks. It's a lot different. And for those of you that have kids that age group, You do know that it's different. So, ⁓ yeah, I just ⁓ I reached out and found them a team and and got them on and ⁓ ⁓ I really wanted him, I really wanted him a chance to to feel what it was like being the one that got to cross the white line at East Cobb Jacob, like he's watched his older brother do for four years. You know what I mean? He's been the dugout rat for four years, and I wanted him the opportunity to to play. So Sunday was Father's Day. Okay. And ⁓ Sunday comes around and it's their only game at East Cobb.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah.

Jason: It's the only one that they had so far. Everything else has been off site, as you know. And ⁓ they had one game and it was Father's Day, and it was at East Cobb on field eight, which ⁓ you know which one that is. The the cage yeah, down in the left, and the cage, the cages are up in the trees behind it. Okay. And Lindsay and I had talked, and I said, Well, how about I go with Brooks to East Cobb because it's Father's Day.

Jacob Moreno: It's down on the left. Yeah. Yeah.

Jason: And that would be a special moment for him to get to play at East Cobb on Father's Day on that turf. HUD was going to be off campus at another location with the 12s. So that's what we decided to do. I went up to the blue chairs. You know what I'm talking about? Up in left field. Went up to the blue chairs and I sat there. And the inning goes by, and the next inning goes by, and the next inning goes by. And before you know it, the game is over. And he never, ever, ever gets to see the field at East Cobb. Okay. Now. Let me pre-rep let me preface this by saying this. It was a pool play game, and it was a game that mattered for runs scored and all that bullshit. Okay. But let me also say this. It's nine you baseball. It's they're not 19. They're nine. It's nine you baseball. Okay. Don't forget that in this entire conversation. That they're nine year olds and they're playing the game because they love it. Okay. All right. There nobody's getting paid to play this game at nine U baseball. So ⁓ with that being said, the night before, Jacob, the night before, we're in pull play. Okay. We're at a different location and we're at that game and we're at pull play. ⁓ runs runs scored against matter, right? And pull play. Okay. For succeeding. All right. Base is loaded, two outs. Can't get out of the inning.

Jacob Moreno: Yes. Yes.

Jason: Brooks comes in off the bench, cold as shit. Hasn't done anything. Coach calls him in to come in. Okay. Gets them out of the inning by getting the kid to pop up to the catcher. All right. Inning over. Comes out the next inning. One, two, three. Proves he can throw. Proves he can pitch. Proves he can get the team out of a touchy situation with two outs and bases loaded. Okay. Proves his worth. All right. He's had he's had a double so far. He's had a single in the at a bat.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah.

Jason: ⁓ even though he's been, you know, he I think he caught a couple innings, one game. I don't know if coach was holding one one mental mistake. ⁓ the there was a play at the plate. He thought it was a force out, it was a tag out, so they didn't get the out. I don't know if coach held that over his head for the entire tournament. Who knows? Who knows? But regardless, he had just helped he had just helped get the team out of that sticky situation the night before. Bro, for Father's Day, he never sees the field at East Cop.

Jacob Moreno: mmm

Jason: Not once. Not even to not even to DH, which is another which is another shitty situation because you put these kids in that don't see the field, you put them into DH or to to pinch hit or be an extra bat. They don't ever see the field. And then you ask them to go up there and hit the butt. I'd like to see your 30 at 30 year old ass do it. Like that it's not easy to do as a nine-year-old to just be thrown into a batter's box out of nowhere and be asked, well

Jacob Moreno: I should be there. Yeah.

Jason: You're not performing in the batter's box. Well, no shit, Sherlock. Either are you in the coach's box. So that's that's another whole take. That's another whole take. Cause it isn't just him. It isn't just him. What are you what are you grinding your head for? You ⁓ are you

Jacob Moreno: Nothing, nothing. just, the way you said it, it was funny. I didn't want to just come out and laugh. I get it. I mean, dude, trust me.

Jason: I I'm just so and you get it because you know him. You know, you know the kind of kid he is. So after the game, okay, after the game, they're doing the banner because they won the pool. All right. They won the whatever it was. They were gonna end up in the three seed or I don't fuck if I remember. They're nine years old. Who knows? Whatever it is. And ⁓ they're taking pictures out there, and then they decide that we're gonna do a picture with all the dads.

Jacob Moreno: Yep.

Jason: Okay, so we're gonna they did a picture of the kids holding the banner that they won the pool. And then the next picture was gonna be a picture of the kids with their dads in front of the banner. And as I'm walking through the gate, you know what I mean, out onto the field, Brooks catches me before I get out onto the field and he's like, but dad, we don't need to take a picture. I didn't, I didn't even get into the game with tears. Tears. And I, brother, listen to me and listen to me very, very carefully. Okay.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah.

Jason: If I could have picked him up and left all of that shit, like left his bat bag, left him off. I could have just picked him up and removed him from that pain at that moment, I would have. But then it would have ruined the rest of the week for him. You know what I mean? So I stood there, I stood there as calmly as I possibly could, taking this picture with my son in front of me and holding him on the shoulder as tightly as I could so that he knew that I had his back.

Jacob Moreno: there. Yeah. Yeah.

Jason: Вау While this ⁓ I gotta be so careful. I gotta be so careful right now. While these while this grown while this grown man took nine year baseball to another level of hatred for me. Does that make sense? Without getting too pers without getting too personal. So ⁓ so then I so okay, kudos to me, kudos to Jason. Jason said nothing. I kept my mouth shut, did not say a word, bro.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah, it does. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Jason: Because all I've heard, all I've heard from this organization is we're just we're just we're just looking for that crazy parent. We're just looking for that parent that wants to bitch and complain. Have we or have we not been preached that? Okay. So in my head, I'm saying, I'm not gonna do that. I'm not gonna be that. I'm not gonna be the poster child for what they're hoping will happen. So I kept my mouth shut. I hugged him, I grabbed his bat bag and we walked and we drove back to the house.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Yeah, no we have. We have.

Jason: And it took us 45 minutes to get back to the house. And I knew that he was gonna struggle seeing his older brothers. Cause the second we walked into that house, his older brothers, his older brother and Gino and Jonah all said, Did you cook? Did you cook? And then the kids gotta come out and say, Yeah, I didn't even play. I didn't even play. I never played. So here's here's where I'm going with this. Okay. Where I'm going with this is it's my fault for thinking that this was the opportunity. But here's my here's the other problem with this. This is a massive issue in travel baseball or in all of baseball, even rec baseball, where kids are being why invite us? Why invite us to the party if you're not gonna let us wear a party hat? What what was the purpose of that? What would is it so that your dugout looks full? Like what was the purpose?

Jacob Moreno: Yeah.

Jason: So that you had somebody that was he you know he ran out to left field to warm up the left fielder with a smile on his face every day, knowing that knowing that he probably wasn't gonna get in because he had a bat at bat the the the the day before or he made a mental error at nine years old and and thought that it was a force out and not a like, do you understand that he ran out every day and warmed that kid up with a smile on his face and and you you rewarded him by this?

Jacob Moreno: Well that's him, man. Yeah.

Jason: by saying you're not and 'cause in his head he's not good enough. Because because in his head he went to his brothers and said, I suck. Do you know how hard that is to hear as a parent?

Jacob Moreno: He's not good enough. Yeah. Yeah, man, and I mean, trust me, I do. You know I do. and that's another, I mean, I don't know. It is, it's, yeah, man, I mean.

Jason: You do? You're just not as willing to talk about it as I am.

Jacob Moreno: So the conversation you had with Brooks is the conversation I've had with Brantley multiple times. Multiple times of, buddy, you don't suck. You're good, you're all right. And hearing him say, I'm just not good anymore, I wanna quit. And I mean, as a parent, as me, as a dad, mean, even mom, it breaks your heart. Because you're like, you know how good your kid is.

Jason: It kills

Jacob Moreno: But in my situation, my situation was out of my hands.

Jason: Your situation w well, mine was too. I mean I'm I'm not calling.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah, yeah, yours was too, yeah, yours was too. Fucked up part was I was coaching.

Jason: Yeah, that is true. You were you were coaching and you still had no control over the situation.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah. I mean, so yeah, mean, those conversations are tough, man, especially when they're second guessing themselves and questioning themselves. And they look at you and like, hey, I don't want to do this no more. I'm like, whoa, like time out, let's give it a week or so and we'll talk about this again. And, you know, it sucks, man. It's heartbreaking because as a parent, I mean, you, I mean, you and I talked on the phone that night and I've never heard you. I've never heard you so, and I'm not saying you were crying, but emotional as you were on the phone.

Jason: It I because I I I ⁓ it it that

Jacob Moreno: because you were feeling the pain, you were feeling the pain of your kid. No, yeah.

Jason: Can't fix it for them. That's that's what sucks. Is that you can't you can't fix it for them and yet another grown man is the one that did it to them. That's the problem. The pr that's that's the whole problem is that you watched you watched a grown man hurt your child and you can't do anything about it. Because if you do, you're the crazy asshole dad that went ballistic on them. Or do you know that I so in it and it's it and it and it's comical. It's literally fucking comical how the organizations try to

Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Yeah. Jim.

Jason: try to pivot themselves and get ahead of the narrative and get ahead of the situation. And you know, I get a I get a text message from from said coach on my drive home. And do you do you realize that I sent four text messages without ever fucking sending one of them? Not one. Like responded and deleted. Responded and deleted. So I went through the whole process of emotions of, okay, listen, I'm gonna wait.

Jacob Moreno: You selling with me?

Jason: I'm gonna wait. I'm gonna wait. I'm gonna wait. I'm gonna let it process. And it never, ever, ever got easier. It never got easier for me. Because I did send them to you. I did send them to you. And then I got, but I'm just saying, like, I ⁓ so just just in all transparency, so he not only did he not get in Father's Day, he didn't get in the final day either. Okay. So we're the the team is getting their asses handed to them. Literally.

Jacob Moreno: You sent them to me.

Jason: They're getting out coached and they're getting outplayed on every and every facet. And it's not the kids' fault. It's it was an 8 a.m. game. They played a better team, and that's how it was. Our the the the coach that we have, he was all hot and heavy and he he couldn't everything nobody could do anything right from the umpires to anybody. Nobody it just it was a bad day. It was nine-year-olds playing like nine-year-olds, bro. Like it happened.

Jacob Moreno: emotional. at 8 a.m.

Jason: At eight o'clock in the morning. Like it shit happens. Okay. But so anyway, so the game's out of hand. There was and the text message came into me of, you know, well, I was going with the hot bats and I was going with the hot gloves. ⁓ shut the fuck up. No, you weren't. Because if you were, then you would have put us you would have tried to spark the situation and get yourselves out of it by maybe throwing a different batter in there that that hasn't seen the pitcher, or the pitcher hasn't seen the batter, or Here's a crazy idea. They don't have a they don't have any data on one of these kids. They don't there's no game changer data on it on on my kid or what any of the other kids. So yeah, so the final game, the final, the final straw breaks, and the umpire makes a call of catcher's interference or batter's interference on the catcher to end the ball game. The game's over. We lose by six or seven. I don't even fucking know. It was nine new baseball. And again.

Jacob Moreno: Yes.

Jason: Okay, so I grab I grab his shit and I've got to go. Okay. I because they've got you know how I am with these post-game meetings that these coaches do? These fucking coaches. I swear to God, coaches, if you ever want to do anything right in your lives, stop with these stupid after loss meetings. None of the kids are listening to you. None of them. None of them give two shits what you have to say. And if you think that they do, you are delusional. Okay.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah.

Jason: These kids are not listening to anything you have to say after a loss, especially when it's a 15 or 20 minute conversation of what they could have done better or how they could have prepared better or whatever. Just shut up and leave. Let them get ice cream. Let them get it off of their brains. Let them get to their parents away from you. There's there's a there's a newsbreak. There's a hot take. Let them get away from you so that they can get over it. So, anyways, this thing's taking forever. And Brooks makes eye contact with me as he's standing along the fence and I can see it.

Jacob Moreno: Let him go swim.

Jason: I can just see the one coming down as he he is so embarrassed to come tell me and and remind me that he didn't get in the game again.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah.

Jason: Like, I'm like, all right, I'm out of here. So HUD standing there, Lindsay's standing there, and ⁓ I'm like, I'm gonna go. I'm gonna walk to the vehicle, I'm gonna get out of here, I'm gonna take his shit, and I'm gonna go, you guys come with him. I'll get the car going, I'll get the air going, that's where I'll be. So they come up to the car, Brooks comes around the back, and as soon as he comes around the back, you kind of put his stuff in the car, like I'm a wreck, because he's a wreck. But I'm just telling you, as as I as far as this goes forward, you ruined everything for me with that brand going forward. Does that make sense, Jacob? Like that tainted which ⁓

Jacob Moreno: It does,

Jason: Which sucks because here's the thing. Here's the thing. There's coaches on the 12U team that I absolutely adore. Adore. Adore. There's families all over. All of the families for this group were amazing. The families for this group were absolutely amazing. Okay. The Matt Elliott's of the word, the the JKs of the world, all of like literally all of them.

Jacob Moreno: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. ⁓ Yep.

Jason: ⁓ the Marquez, the the Marqueses of I have them all written down, but I don't have my glasses on right because I'm trying not to cry. There was not one single human being on any of the families from either one of these situations that I would not literally go break bread with on a daily basis. Loved them all. They were so incredibly welcoming to us. So incredibly Trinka. Like that woman is a rock star. She was incredibly sweet to us. She was incredibly sweet to my kid.

Incredible family, incredible family, incredible family. I'm telling you right now, be on the lookout. That kid is a future rock star. Okay. Elijah Elliott, shout out to you, buddy. You were just so everybody know, just so you know, Matt and Sam, Brooks said that. That was the kid that was the nicest to him the entire week that he was there. So you as parents need to hear that because that meant a lot to me. So with that being said, ⁓ I was on both ends of the spectrum this week, as I think a lot of other families have been on both ends of the spectrum. Or maybe a family has just been in the the dump and maybe a family has never seen the dump and only been on the on the mountain. I was on both sides. I was on both sides. And I know that you, I know that you have been struggling because you have been over here. You've been over here, not by soul.

Jacob Moreno: Mm-hmm. Yeah, we've been there for a year. Yeah. We've been on, yeah, we've been on that side for over a year now. Yeah. A year. And it just sucks, man, because, you know, they only want to hear, they can only take what you say, you know, so much at a point in time. It's like, am I really that good? Am I really, you know what I mean? And we've gotten to that point. And it's funny to say that because I was actually gonna give.

Jacob Moreno: a shout out at the end, but Brantley's trainer, Blaise Woods from Detroit, man. yeah, yeah. He once a week, twice a week, sometimes three times a week will call and FaceTime Brantley. Hey, Miho, how you doing? Like, you know, where's your head? You're working out, you're doing what you gotta do. Like get better and just keeps making sure you're good. Like don't worry about it.

And, know, that's, he's actually been a big part because Brantley can only hear so much from us, but him constantly call it, you know, from you call and text me, how's Brantley doing? You guys, you and him, and maybe a couple of buddies are probably the only people that have reached out weekly and say, Hey, how's Brantley doing? You know, everything all right. And

Jason: Yeah. Yeah. I and I don't and and I don't do it as much as I should. I don't do it as much as I should because ⁓ I'm just saying, but I I do and I was so excited to see him working out the other day. You guys you guys finally made some posts of him doing cardio in the park and I was just like yes, like don't give this up. Like don't give up because I'm literally like Brantley's twelve well is Brantley thirteen yet?

Jacob Moreno: Yeah, but we're busy. Yep. Yeah. No, it'll be 13 in July.

Jason: Okay, same with HUD and same with Jonath. Okay. But like it's I feel like I feel like Brantley's age, I feel like Brantley's group, okay. That group has been that group's been through some hell, dude. That group of 12 that have been together since they were eight, dude, they have seen some shit in the world of travel baseball. And they have been through some shit in the world of travel baseball. I'm just gonna let I'm just gonna let you folks know.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Jason: You think that we give these the this age group way too much love? You have like I'm telling you, the group that we came from, they have been through hell and back a couple different times. A couple different times. And so I guess that's the thing that hurts the most when it comes to Brooks and being nine is I'm trying to protect him from that same shit. Does that make sense? And to hear him already to hear him already challenging himself of whether or not he's good enough at like, are you fucking kidding me?

Jacob Moreno: Yeah.

Jason: Like what nine year olds should be be thinking that? Like if you're like you have one goal as a youth baseball coach. You know what that goal is, Jacob? To not fuck this up for them. To not fuck it up for him. You got one goal. You got one goal as a youth baseball coach, and that is to not fuck this up and make them hate the game and want to quit. And you were able to do that in a matter of six days. Congratulations.

Jacob Moreno: Yeah. To big them up, give them confidence, let them know. Yeah, yeah, keep their confidence going. Dear.

Jason: Congratulations. So, anyways, all right, we're done with that. Cause I don't I'm over it. ⁓ yes, yes, in all transparency, I was I I people did try to influence me today, okay, and get me to not talk about this. But in all transparency, if I don't talk about it, you all already know that I was emotional about this. You all already know ⁓ how I felt about this. So I would have been fake as fuck.

And I I saw some of his first images and I pulled his data side and I said, whatever, whatever it takes to foster this skill that your kid has, you have got to go all in and help him. Like there's some kids that are gonna be athletes, there's some kids that are gonna be doctors, there's some kids that are gonna be lawyers.
