And now that we're in junior high football, we're I mean, he started playing football for the school in fourth grade. So we had fourth, fifth, and sixth, and now we're going into seventh. But I've been very open with all of our coaches and families, which is what got us into the mess last year with our coach taking a team down, stating to be us and it wasn't us to the beast of the east and ⁓ that not working out so well for him. So yeah, I I don't know, dude. I let the chips fall where they fall where they fall. If a coach wants to penalize us. Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Yeah. Mm. Because because the coach, the okay, so let's say, like, for instance, let's just give an example. We're going into the PGI. And it is we're already miss well, we have Cooperstown, but we're already missing like their football started June first, every morning, 7 a.m. That's when their football started. Listen, here's what here's what you need to know. It's not just one, because we've got four kids. From what I know, we've got four on our team, our national team that play football. There's four. Now it's it it's not just one. It it'd be easier if it was one, but you've got four that you've got to fill roster spots for if you're gonna do fall ball and you gotta say, Hey, listen. Here's your opportunity to prove to me that you belong here. And if you do, then we'll have a serious conversation come spring. But that's all this is. This is just an opportunity for you to get your feet wet and get a taste of what national competition looks like and feels like. And if you want to earn it, here's a great opportunity for you to go up and earn it. And then we have to come in. And if we're not ready and if we're not prepared, then we don't get that spot. But I mean, it would be on like. Jacob Moreno: Okay. Jason: If Hud just showed up out of nowhere in February and couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with his bat, he doesn't deserve to be there. Yeah, are you Jason: But it's I'm not I'm just being but that's we've never had we've never been we've never been faced with that because he's always he's always he's always been ready. You know what I mean? ⁓ I can't say that all kids are are always ready, but he's he's figured it out. He's figured out a way to prioritize his time with basketball and in training. I I don't know. Jason: We don't have to do certain we don't have to sacrifice certain things in our lives because we're very fortunate where we live that 500 feet down the road is our cage. Does that make sense? We can do all of the glove work. We can do all of the hitting that we need to do five hundred yards from our house. So, yeah, but ⁓ I mean I get what you're saying. I would say though, if you're a parent and you're going into that situation where your kid does not play football or soccer in the fall or golf or anything like that, I I would tell you that I here's the other thing too. If it wasn't football, it'd be fucking golf. Jacob Moreno: Or cross country. Jason: Like we'd be like he'd be golfing. Like he's gonna find something. He's going to always be a three sport athlete. Like he just is. Like he I he's just that's just him. Like he loves the taste of different things. So if it wasn't football, it would be something else, dude. Be it'd be men's volleyball for Christ's sake. Like it would just soccer. I don't know. It would be something. ⁓ Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well Yeah, it's I mean I get it because I don't know if Braille's gonna do soccer or he's gonna do cross country. I tell him to do cross country as much as he's running now. Jason: Whatever. I mean whatever yeah, I mean Jacob Moreno: And then he's gonna do basketball. He's gonna play basketball. Jason: I just I can't tell you this. I tell you this. So I love base. Like we we know this. Like we love baseball. There's something beautiful about the game of baseball. But if you if you're a parent out there and you're contemplating whether or not to let your kid play football or to play basketball, I'm gonna start with football. Okay. I was scared to death. I was scared to death when this started. Okay. Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Jason: Now, fortunately for us, we live in a school district where our football program, our Pee Wee program, it starts in fourth grade and goes up to sixth grade. Like the way that we do it is so beautiful. It's so perfect, Jacob. Like, I don't know when they I apparently they started doing this like six or seven years ago. They broke away from playing other schools. And then they just basically basically how ours is structured is is it's our fourth graders, our fifth graders, and our sixth graders. They all play together. They all have their own league and they're all drafted. So you have four teams that make up the three grades and they just play each other all fall long and then they have a t a tournament and a championship. And if you're a fourth grader, you can't be a linebacker and you can't be a quarterback. Like you have to be a skilled position. ⁓ the smaller kids have to be a skilled position and the older kids have to be on the line. Okay. And if you're over certain weight, you have Jacob Moreno: Wait, you can't touch the ball. Jason: You have to be on the line. Like you can't be running the ball. You have to be you opening a hole. Does that make sense? and and and you can't, it doesn't, it also keeps any fourth graders from beating out any sixth graders that have earned their time to be quarterbacks or running backs. Does that make sense? It's a it's ⁓ I I'll get to that point. There was an exception. was an exception. There was what? What? Jacob Moreno: Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that's how I mean that's how was for me. Mm, mm. Jason: What were you what were you gonna say? Jacob Moreno: But what if the fourth grader's just that much better than the sixth grader, a quarterback or a running back? Jason: Doesn't matter. They get their, they get their shot. They get their shot. There's one week where the sixth graders go to sixth grade camp and it's just the fourth and fifth graders playing each other, then it's whoever's the best gets to play that position. So you can be a fourth grader and be a backup, but you cannot, you cannot be a starting quarterback in our football program if you're a fourth grader, as long as there's a sixth grader on the team. Doesn't matter. So like HUD's first. Jacob Moreno: What if I drafted Stevie Wonder to be my quarterback as a sixth grader, but I got Tom Brady as a fourth grader? Jason: ⁓ so I will hey I will say that there were some pretty creative ways that the coaches found a way to get the ball in HUD's hand as a fourth grader. Yeah, there were some pretty creative ways of some laterals that then turned into Yes. Yes. So but I will say this. Let me get back to my point, and that is is that Jacob Moreno: I know that's another reason why I was like, hold on. Some sweeps to passes. Jason: I was scared shitless because Hud's not a big kid. And he's especially wasn't in fourth grade. And I was like, okay, God gave you this gift of baseball. What are we doing? Why are we doing this? That was the greatest thing for him and his development socially that I could have ever hoped for. Like I thought that travel ball and meeting kids from all over the country and playing with them at tournaments was good. Nothing, nothing has been as good as the huddle. Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Jason: I'll just I'm just gonna say it. Those are your boys. Those are your boys that they don't get to be on the road with you at these high level elite baseball tournaments, but buddy, they're the ones protecting your ass. ⁓ Jacob Moreno: ⁓ 'cause those are your boys. Well, they're the ones that you get to Yeah. They're the ones that you have the pool parties when s school's over. Jason: Hundred percent. Hundred percent. They're going fishing together. They're meeting down. They is so there's four of them. They started a window washing company this this summer. Bro, yeah. I think I think Graydon's made like six hundred bucks. So we were gone for three weeks and his best friend they started so HUD and Graydon, one of his best friends and one of their other friends, they started a window washing company over the summer. They wash they wash people's windows. They like they literally go to your house and wash your windows. And Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Okay. Jason: ⁓ it was at first I was I was just like, What are you doing? Because Hud had a little bit of cash, and every time he had cash, Graydon was sending him to Dollar General to buy gallons of water. I'm like, what are you doing? He's like, Well, Dad, we have to have water to wash the windows. but Graydon was like sending these friends out to go spend their money on supplies. ⁓ Graydon is the Graydon's also the one that makes the movies. He's the one behind the camera too. Yes, yes. Jacob Moreno: ⁓ Green's the boss. ⁓ perfect. Director. Jason: Great Graydon Bod. Yes. Everybody needs a Graydon in their life. Yes. And ⁓ was ⁓ sending all these kids out to buy all the supplies. And then we left on vacation. And then Graydon's got this like sweat factory of kids working for him, washing windows. And the community, he's like a pimp. He's a window washing pimp, is what Graydon is. ⁓ ⁓ it ⁓ comes back ⁓ Hud's like, Where's my money? He's like, Jacob Moreno: Mm-hmm. His Jason: Because I thought because he invested in the supplies that he was supposed to get a return on his investment. Wait, wait, ⁓ it gets better. It gets better. Hudson's no, this is bullshit. He's Why won't you answer my calls? Why won't you answer my text? Well, Graydon, Graydon fucked up and sent a picture of him holding the wad of cash with a hundred dollar bill on top. So it looks like it's a stack of hundreds, which it probably was just one hundred dollar bill and then a stack of ones, but you couldn't tell. And Hud's like, ⁓ hell no. Jacob Moreno: Nah, it's not how it works, buddy. Jason: So he goes, Brooks, let's go. He grabs Brooks, they grab one, they jump on their drip bikes, he goes and gets his money Grayton. He drives over to their house. Yeah, he knocks on the door and he's got his little brother Brooks with him. And brother's like, Yeet, you want Yeet? ⁓ ⁓ yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Creighton's Grayton said that he was just in the middle, middle of scheduling, something along those lines. He was ⁓ on his appointment. Yeah. So Jacob Moreno: So are him and Graydon still friends? Okay. What is his He needs a two hundred and fifty five gallon tote. I don't know he's gonna pull it around ⁓ with water, but Jason: First of I asked them, I Why are you guys like they have Windex? It's in bottles. Like you can just use Windex. Like you don't have to use a bucket of water in a rag. ⁓ their hearts. Yeah, bless their hearts. Like let them figure it out. They're clearly making money. There's clearly families that are willing to support them. Jacob Moreno: And they got the sticks that Hold on, one's making money while the other one's on three week vacations. Jason: He did come home and get his money back though. So but yeah so anyways, that's but but yes, that's football. That's ⁓ those are the football boys, and that's why I love like there are parents out there I know that are ⁓ scared of football and them getting hurt, they have ⁓ of a chance of getting hurt on their bikes. Than they do in football. And I'm just being honest with you. I know that you guys aren't a football family. I get it. And this isn't ⁓ this isn't a direct message to you. This is a message to a lot of people out there. I have bit I was scared to death of it until I was around it and realized how controlled it honestly is. And the the amount of crazy shit that my kids are doing during the day, they're way more likely to get hurt or to get injured doing that than they are. Jacob Moreno: Yeah. No, said Yeah. Jason: Learning how to be a teammate. And then, bro, and then we go into basketball season. Like, I don't think there's a better, I don't know if there's a better sport for conditioning going into baseball than basketball. Like this shit's incredible. I've never seen my my son work so hard. He didn't, he HUD didn't work nearly as hard at football as he had to with basketball. Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Yeah, that's a lot of running. Up and down that court. Jason: Dude, dude, just intense. Intense. And he loved it. So we're always gonna be multiple sport athletes in this house. I don't ever want him to specialize. I honestly don't. I hope that he can take this as long as he possibly can and he can hold out as long as he possibly can with whatever decision he decides to do. And whether it's whether it's sports and as the vehicle into college or not, I I know my kids kids gotta he listen, he's gotta Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Yeah. Jason: He's got a great career as a window washer someday. Okay. Okay. So with or without sports. So Jacob Moreno: Yeah. Well that's how I mean that's how I feel. We've been a one family went one sport family for a long time until a couple of years ago when Bradley started playing basketball, now soccer, and then one of his good friends from school plays lacrosse. He's like he's like, Bradley, come play lacrosse in the in the spring and brand Jason: Yeah, I can see Brentley doing that 'cause Brentley has great hands. Jacob Moreno: And I'm just like and the good thing about lacrosse though is during the week. So we played baseball, it'd be on the weekend, you know what mean? So so I'm just like, I mean, I guess when we come to it, have at it. If you wanna play, you wanna play. I was like, but his buddies like, huh? His buddies like his buddy's dad's like, Hey, I have all the equipment. Don't even go out and buy nothing. He goes, Because you don't even know if you're gonna like it. Jason: Yes. Yeah. That's what we did for football. Is the cross expensive? Is the cross expensive? Yeah. I mean I can I can see Brantley liking it. I can see Brantley being very good at lacrosse. 'Cause Jacob Moreno: And And they're like, You're a catcher, right? And Brandon's Yeah, they're like, Okay, you can be a goalie. Jason: Right. but I mean he's his hands are fast. Like ⁓ could just see that being a natural thing for him ⁓ he would be very comfortable with a mask on. Gets used to that. Like so that that would not I would see how I don't know, just in my mind, it would I would think if you've never if you've never had a mask on your face and you're running around trying to catch a puck in a net, it might be a little hard, but not for a kid that's grown up with a mask on his face. If it's, you know, WWBA in the fall at 13U, we're gonna go. But it's also easy because those are just two day events. So those are not week long events where we have to miss school.
