He goes, No, he goes, I need to get ready for next year. I said, Okay. So that's what we did and then yesterday and Wednesday, Blaze came down to Toledo and we threw a baseball camp for Jason: Okay. I saw that. Jacob: For Brantley and you know, just boys in the area they wanted to train. And then we're off tomorrow and then Sunday he's back at it. And Blaze is back down on Sunday and then Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, we're up north training. Actually gonna get ready for WWBA in October. Jason: Okay. Okay. So is he and I'm folks, this is a very authentic, transparent conversation. We're just having it in real time with you guys, but is he with Ghost officially or not yet? How is that whole thing? Jason: I mean, I know he wants to play with his buddies in the future, but for right now, in this season of life that he's in. He needs to take that opportunity and run with it and work his. Jason: that we all know that he is. And I really honestly, I've actually had this conversation without you even knowing it. I really think that if I'm being a thousand percent honest with you, I think that Brantley should honestly lean into this winter working, really working on the mound. I think Brantley can be an elite, and I mean elite thrower, pitcher. I I know you don't like, I know you don't, I'm just telling you, I'm Jacob: I know. Jason: just telling you that I believe with his knowledge of the game, with his n knowledge of understanding batters, understanding situational baseball, and the way that kid can spin it. I'm just telling Jacob: Yeah. Jason: you, I'm telling you, you I think that you should lean in it because. That's one thing that I didn't do with HUD and I regret. And I will change that going forward. HUD and I have talked about it. HUD and I have talked about it. Like some of HUD's role models are kids like Knox, you know what I mean? Myers. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: And these kids are shortstops that also throw 90 off the mound. Now they're not everyday starters. they could be if they had to be, but they don't want to be. But he's got to add that into his repertoire. And I think that that's one of the things that maybe Hangs him up in some some certain invitations to some certain things that we all know about. I don't know. But we're really gonna focus this winter on him getting his VLO up because we know we can spot it. But Jacob: Yeah. Jason: the problem is the VLO, because he's a shortstop, he wants to place it instead of throwing it. Jacob: I said, Why are you throwing? He goes, I don't want to get hurt again. I said, You babying it, you're gonna get hurt again. Jason: Well, it's funny you say that because we were obviously just in Cooperstown and you know Tucker, he had just broke his ankle. And Jacob: Yeah. Jason: he had he's he had like a safety kind of brace on while we were in Cooperstown. And we were all watching him kind of run and like limp a little bit, and we're like, Tony, is he like is he healed? And he's like, dude, he's fine. He's just babying it. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: You know what I mean? And that's the tip of like that's that's exactly what Brantley's going through. Like Jacob: Yeah. Jason: I would if I was if I was thirteen and I've been through two arm injuries that have taken me out of seasons, I would be scared to death. So I get Jacob: Y Jason: it. Jacob: yeah, he is, man. He is. And after I told him, I said, Hey man, I said, just let it go. I said, You did your bandwork, you warmed up. You know, we got the camp was at four. We got there at three fifteen. He did all his stretches, went through everything, warmed him warmed his shoulder up and I was like, Just let it go, man. And he started letting Jason: Yeah. Yeah. Jacob: it go and I'm like I asked him, I How'd you feel? He goes, Dad I he goes, I feel real good. So yesterday Jason: Yeah, but still scared. Jacob: so yeah. So yesterday we did behind the plate throw downs. Jason: Okay. Jacob: And the first one he babied it and then he looked at me and I was like I'm like, Did it hurt? He goes, No. And then I walked away and then he just started you know, he went full go, one hop, everything, which I was like, Yeah, that's good, man. Like you look good. Like he goes, I feel good. I said, Okay. Like, you know, I'm happy to hear that because man, being you know, I mean I talked to you about it, being those four months off are hard. Jason: It it it's hard and it's hard to I know that that it was hard for him to be at the PGI too and see everybody his age playing and him not. I Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: know that it was hard for him in a lot of ways. And I'm bro, I'm I'm not gonna pretend to to understand the feelings of a twelve year old because I I have a hard time remembering w I was never in this position as a twelve year old and you weren't either. So Jacob: Yeah. No. Jason: for us to have the pressure that these kids have now is something that I can try to talk through it, but in the end of the day, like I can tell you how to be a man, but I I have a really hard t time telling you how to be a kid. So Jacob: Yeah. Jason: I I mean, I get it. I get it. but I just yeah, I just I know that you guys were there was a lot of anxiety in your guys' life as there is as there's anxiety in a lot of people that are listening are having anxiety over kids and the next program, the next move and all this other stuff. You guys were going through that in real time with me and trying to figure out where where are we going to go? What are we going to do? And then Jacob: Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you know, we had conversations behind closed doors. I talked to you about it. I'm like, dude, I don't know what we're gonna do. Am I gonna Jason: Yeah. Yeah. Jacob: stay home and we're just gonna play at home and be a free agent or am I gonna go find another national team and luckily it you know, it panned out that Blaze is real good connected with Ghost and he Yes. They get to PGI in Dallas and it's like they haven't missed a beat. So Jacob: They just saw each other yesterday. Jason: just because the uniform changes, the organization changes, doesn't mean the love stops. So Jacob: Yeah. This is the craziest part of the entire season, is right now when people are plucking, people are changing, organizations are changing, and I can tell you that you have got to, I'm telling you, parent to parent, you have got to trust your gut and what you feel is the right move for your kid. It may not be the most socially fun move for you or for them, but it's the right move. And I can promise you, dude, Brittany walked up to us at PGI, you and me both. What Jacob: Yeah. Jason: yeah, take your kid somewhere, put your kid in a place where he's gonna get reps and reps and reps. I have been wanting to say this since before PGI. Never ever ever value rings over reps. Ever. Ever. Jacob: And it and it and it comes a time too where if you feel like you're doing this for friendships instead of baseball, then you're doing it from the wrong reasons. Jason: And outside of them being the first people that I've ever met up there, they're also an incredible family. But I will always go back to probably what, maybe the first or second episode we ever did, where it has brought it has brought so much value in the relationships and the friendships that we've built through it. that it's it's no you cannot put money, you cannot put a price Jacob: No. Jason: on it at all. But before we do that, we have also got to give some clarity of the hurdles and roadblocks of why we were not able to produce podcasts like we thought we were going to be able to do. Okay. The last time we did anything remote was locally at Jennings Park in Columbus, Ohio. Jason: had the entire studio in the back of that Yukon, as well as we were hardlined into their internet source. Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: So that's the only time we've ever done that. I will also say this. Being that the PGI was such a catastrophe, I'm never doing it again. I'm never if Jacob: No. Jason: I will do it only if I can drive and only if my son is not playing. Okay. Those are the two caveats. I have to be able to take different cameras. I have to be able to take Wi-Fi source, my own Wi-Fi source, and some other things that were logistically impossible to fly and ship because we just don't make enough money to Jacob: Yeah. Jason: ship this stuff. so I just I want to preface this that we had a lot, we had very high hopes going into this, you and I. We really, really Jacob: Yes, we did. Jason: did. We also thought that we were gonna get some guests that we never got contacted on, that nobody ever nobody ever communicated with us and the Jacob: Reach now. Yeah. Jason: guests that we thought we were getting never showed up and It just it it was a whole it was a whole cluster of problems. And the biggest problem, well, there were three major problems that you and I ran into. Okay. And I'm just Jacob: And night. Jason: gonna lay them out. Number one was the internet. So the internet, the the sporadic internet over at the facility. I so from here's what I found out. And I found out this I found this out after you left. And you made I don't know if I ever told you this. Do you remember the construction that was going on outside of the gate? Jacob: Yes. Jason: Okay. So I was told that they were actually that they had hit a fiber line. And that was why the internet was out that entire one day that we were there. Remember when there was no Jacob: Mm. Mm-hmm. Jason: diamond cast or anything that day? Okay. I was so it when you when you drove out of the when you drove out of this was not. This was not a stations at 60 fields at station 63 issue. This was a this was a utility issue, is what I'm getting at. Jacob: No. They were doing construction on the road and yeah. Mm-hmm. Jason: I was told that they are fed by fiber and that there was a fiber issue. So every time Jacob and I would start to do something, I would get a notification that that we lost recording. We lost recording. We lost recording. This would go up. We were, it was just, it was a nightmare. Jacob: Even when I walked away, when I went to walk away to Jason: It was an absolute nightmare. So that was the biggest issue. The second issue we had was the heat on our camera. I do not, I cannot, Jacob and I do not we don't run deep enough to roll with studio equipment. We are working with Sony cameras and Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: a next gen camera, and and it just it's not built for the heat. And I I will say this it's not just the heat, bro. It was the heat coming off of the concrete. So it was the heat that was rising. So Jacob: dude, my feet were burning. Yes. Yes. Jason: it's not just the ambient temperature. The problem was that with these cameras, we ran into a lot with the Meevos on the field when we were trying to stream. Was the heat coming off of the concrete, the heat rises, and it was the cameras could not stay on, dude. They wouldn't stay on. So that was number two. And then I would say the third biggest hurdle. Is is that I've never ever tried to produce a show on the road while my son was playing. And that was a huge, huge hurdle that I was not ready for. It Jacob: Yeah. Jason: was just HUD and I and he was playing for for beat for Beto and it was a big deal because he was really, really, really trying to To do his best to make that list that got released later. And I was doing my best as dad to keep him locked in that week. I didn't realize how hard it would be. Like, am I supposed to just make him sit off to the side while you and I do like there was a dude, there was just a lot of hurdles that I wasn't ready for. And so, Jacob: Yeah. This almost seems and I thought this when I came home, this is almost like a year in advance planning. Jason: Yeah. we just needed more money, dude. We just didn't have enough money to have the right the right setup, the right Jacob: Yeah, no. The right equipment. Yeah. Jason: setup, the right equipment. I was I, you know, like I said, going back, like I was told that some guests might show up that that I never got even contacted by. So I had kind of in my mind thought that that was gonna happen and and thankfully, thankfully they didn't because we we had nothing for them. Jacob: It didn't. Jason: But I'm just saying there was just It was just it was a lesson learned and in and in all transparency, literally Tony and I talked about this before. We're like, this'll be a trial run. If Jacob: Yeah. Jason: it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't. This clearly doesn't work. Now, does this mean to say that like other events where my son's not playing and I can drive to them that it can't? No. Does not mean that. I'm just saying that for this particular event where I had to fly in, we had We had to ship equipment like there Jacob: Yeah. Jason: was just a a ton of hurdles that I wasn't ready for. And it was I learned a lot. But at the same time, too, at the end of the day, I actually made an IGO post, an IG post about this, like at the event. I was just like, I'm dad first. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: This podcast shit is not high in the priority because we have a chance to win this event. And I Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: am going to make sure that that HUD is ready to go. And HUD hit a moonshot off of Brock that was impressive, to say the Jacob: Yeah. Jason: least. And it's like 850 PM at night, and I'm in the hotel room, and HUD is, you know, eyes are heavy, and he's trying to get ready for the next day. And coach Cody Farr texts me and he's just like, You need to hug on that kid and tell him that. That was a great at bat off of an elite arm. And I'm very proud of him. And I was like, I looked over, Jacob: that's good. Jason: I looked over and I just went like just took Jacob: Mm. Jason: my phone and went like that. And he just, you know what I mean? Like the Jacob: Yeah. Jason: biggest smile in the world and then back passed out. Okay. So then the next day comes and is championship day. And we have to battle JSM, which is another conversation. I got I lost my temper with JSM. And you know why. Yes. And Jacob: You told me that. Yeah, you told me that. Yep. Jason: I want I want to clear the air. Okay. I want to clear the air. so we're playing JSM in the quarterfinals or semifinals, semifinals. we're playing JSM SBAX. And it's it's a good game. We we beat them, but HUD gets hit three times in a row. Three at bats in a row, HUD gets hit by pitch. Jacob: No. Jason: HUD is leading off for For Beto in ZT prospects. Three at bats in a row, he has hit by pitch. Okay. On the third one, like and I'm I'm folks, I'm telling you, this is not nine new baseball. This is 12 U baseball. These balls are coming in from 50 feet at mid 70 range. So they don't tickle, is what I'm saying. And on the third one, I I'm dad. I'm dad. Like I'm still dad, Jacob. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: And I was just like, I fucking had it. And I knew I knew it had gotten to HUD because that's the first time he slammed his bat on the ground because it hurt, but he did not want them to know that it hurt. And he ran to you know what I mean, he ran to first Jacob: Yeah. Jason: base. And I was just like, dude, if you have a problem with me, you can throw at me, not the 12-year-old here, kind Jacob: I am a kid, yeah. Jason: of thing. And he looks up, Coach X looks up to his right, and he's like, I don't even know who you are. And I'm like, well, you're about to find out, like kind of thing. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: Like, that's fine. You don't have to, but you're about to find out because I'm not playing this game, kind of Jacob: Yeah. Jason: thing. Because here was the thing. Here was here's the ironic part of this thing. It wasn't it I at first I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that it was the kid. It was the kid losing grip because of the heat and sweat. Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: Three hits by pitch, three different pitchers, bro. And the coach is calling the pitch on the clicker. So that's that was my problem. So before Jacob: Yes. Jason: I get down there, Vic, Vic Delaro, like runs up to me and he's like, Bro, this is not how this works. This is not what they do, you know. And I he like he got me to come down off of my ledge. Because at this point, I'm like, Yeah, I'm just Jacob: He got you where I would get you, like, hey, bring this back. So after the game, walked down and I apologized to X and I apologized to I think Jason is the other the other coach's name. is it Jason Garcia? Okay. I don't Jacob: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Jason: I may have messed up his last name. I I apologize. And I just apologized to him and I was just like, listen, I you know, I let I I voiced my opinion from up there and I shouldn't have. I feel like a jackass. I apologize. Please accept my apology. but please understand I'm still dad. So I'm gonna get pissed off when you hit my kid three times in a row. So, anyways, so we went through them, we beat them, and then we had to we had to face the Wildcatters and or no, we beat them, we Jacob: Was it no golden? Jason: had to We had to face Golden. Yes, we had to face Golden. And I don't yeah, I don't even remember a a lot about that game, to be honest with you. I know that it you know, it wasn't it wasn't a horrible game, but it also was a game where towards the end, we just kinda were like, Okay, we're done. Kinda you know what I mean? Like we kinda just kinda threw our hands up and we're like, Okay, this is where we hit our wall. I think we were out of I think we were out of arms and Yeah, I don't know. I don't know what it was. I don't know what it was about that, but we just had hit our wall with them. And I think we had spent so much energy and that JSM game ahead of before Jacob: Yeah. Jason: that. because that's a I mean, they're a great program. I mean, X is an incredible coach and Jason Jacob: Uh-huh. Jason: is an incredible coach and they're really good at what they do and they always bring a squad. So I just think that we just had put so much energy into that game that we had very little left for for Golden. So, Getting back to the Cody Farr stuff. So we stuck around for the championship game, obviously, while catters took care of business. And I want to give Coach Cody Farr more flowers. Okay. So as they're doing their celebrations, okay. And as they're taking their pictures and doing all this stuff, Coach Cody notices HUD and Gino standing at like the entrance to like go into the dugout from the stands. Bro. He stops shaking hands and kissing babies, walks right over to Gino and HUD, and he spends probably five or seven minutes talking to them. Just them. He he hugged them both. well, I know he hugged HUD. He might have shook Gino's hand. I don't remember, but I'm trying to be very specific here. And he probably spent five to seven minutes just talking to them and telling them that, like, hey. You guys are doing just fine. Like, Jacob: Yeah. Jason: you know what I mean? Encouraging them and talking to them about the weight room, talking to about next year in the big field. And that, you know, that HUD's time to shine is when he gets on the big field and he gets to show his range and his speed. And you know, you know what I mean? That kind of. And I'm just telling you that that meant the absolute world to me. I know that a lot of these coaches are rivals. And I know that we were playing and we had colors on from other, but Cody did not have to do that. And I'm just telling you that I would be honored, honored if my kid was under his leadership. You know what I mean? It's guys like that. And there's listen, bro, you and I both know there Jacob: Yeah, I mean it's a good dune. Yeah. Jason: are hundred coaches that do that. I'm just I'm just giving you one one specific example of a coach doing that with kids. Jacob: Exactly. Jason: And you don't see that everywhere. And I've been very vocal. Even with Isaac and the Canes, you know, because that's our next, that's that's where we're going in the future. I told Isaac, I was just like, listen, man, I was like, with all due respect, like, I am not gonna have conversations about the canes while I am while I am repping the tattoo of a ZT on my chest that I am very, very proud to rep. Jason: and I can tell you, man, that if it wasn't I can tell you that, man, without a doubt, dude, that if if we didn't have a plan going forward, there's no there's no question we would be with Jacob: I know. Jason: I have to play the long game and not the short game. And here's the beauty, here's the other thing that I love about Beto. I I I was able to have this conversation with him. And I was like, dude, listen, here's the here's the opportunities that I have for my son. You now know my son. And I was like, Jacob: I've got it. Jason: like, I have an opportunity to put him with an organization that has a pedigree of getting the eyeballs on the kids at the right times and the right moments. And his exact words to me was like, That's exactly what Hudson should do. That's exactly what you should do with HUD. I have older boys. They played for Canes too. That was like all that was all the validation that he was just he's just so good. And he's just like, listen, the door's always open. And I'm like, the door's always open for us too. You know what I mean? Jacob: Yeah. Jason: And that's the thing about that's the thing about travel ball, man. Is that you know this like it's the relationships and it's the doors and it's the networking and it's the the relationships that you build with these these families. Jacob: No. Jason: Cause then you might be with a family that vouches for you. getting back to PGI, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, okay, that if you are a team that wants to test yourself among the best of the best of the best, that there is no better tournament in the lower 48 than the perfect game PG invitational tournament. Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: I it is fac Jacob: Dude, and and and I had more time because you were watching HUD play. I got to walk around and go watch other games. Jason: Yeah. You did, you did. Jacob: And well man, I probably caught thirty games. You know that, because I was coming back and be like, you Jason: Yeah. Jason: baseball that you could play there, like even if you didn't make gold bracket, you were still playing elite baseball in silver and bronze brackets. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: Like, and then to have the whole double elimination thing. Now I will say this we need to talk about this. Okay. If we're gonna talk about PGI. Let's talk about the flying in of kids the night before games. Okay. Because here's what I will say about this. In the moment, I was hating this. I was not happy hearing about people flying flying kids in the night before. But then I'm thinking to myself, but they're on the roster. So what Jacob: Yeah. Jason: did like they don't have to be here all week if they're not going to be used until the end of the week? So I I did. I did come, I like I did recenter myself and understand the whole thing. I know Golden did that. Golden flew in kids, but it is what it is. Because my I had had this, I had this hilarious conversation. So it was me, Dominic, and Vic, De La Cruz. We were at Jason's deli, I think, eating after one of the games. This was after you left. And the futures were out of it. Mason's team. The futures were out, which shout out to Mason. He's now a Kane. T. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: dude, we have a squad. anyways, we're sitting there eating, and I was just like, we were leaving, and I was just like, wait a minute, it's like you guys are out of the tournament right now. Jason: See what he says. So, anyways, so yeah, so at first I was I was really frustrated with it in the moment, but then it you know, then it kind of sank in of like, okay, I get it. Like, why pay for a room? Like, I think it just got twisted of like we're flying people in instead of like they're flying in tomorrow because we weren't using Jacob: They're POs. Jason: them. Yes, yes. So anyway. Jacob: But it I mean you're gonna notice that too, the older you get, when you get into them big diamonds and you you know Jason: Yes. Now, I will say this for a hundred and two teams. It was the greatest thing ever. Those other 102 teams had never even remotely thought about a PG super regional or an NIT. They've Jacob: Yeah. Jason: never been to a real baseball tournament. That was the biggest thing they had ever seen in their entire lives. Because I don't know if you listened to the the game changer stream that I was doing, but Jacob: Yeah. Jason: the I was able to do it the last four games. That's another bro. There's no there's no better acclamation of talent in the country at this age group than that event, in my opinion. Jacob: yeah, everybody that somebody's there. Jason: Robert, I'm just telling you, like the way that they operate this thing and the way the the well-oiled machine that it is is exact a Jacob: It's smooth its rain. Jason: dude is exactly why PG. Is PG and it is exactly why we came up with the meme and the shirt that should have been made and never was Mr. PG Tony Harper. It's why he is what he is because he knows exactly how to pull this off. Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: And it was an incredible, incredible event held at an incredible, incredible location. So I'm just telling you right now that if you're a team. If you're a major team in this country, you've got to get yourself into some of these local NIT tournaments, local or regional, super regionals, and get your points up and get yourself in a position to be invited to go to that tournament. Cause I'm telling you, it will change the way you view your age group's talent pool in this country. Yes? Jacob: And you you get you get to see the talent that's in your age group throughout the country. Jason: That's what I'm saying. Jacob: Yeah, I mean you sometimes people get you know, sometimes people think just because they live in a region they see the best talent. Then you really go to a big tournament and they're like, shit, I didn't know these kids existed. Jason: Yeah, in that facility. Fields at station sixty-three is the Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: best youth baseball facility in America. And we can say that with we I know that you and I talked before on a podcast that was completely destroyed by recording and internet issues. you know, yes, it's nice to be able to drive to East Cobb. Jason: the location, the water park, the location, being able to the the best part of the entire thing is everything was there every day. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: There was no there was no looking for other fields and and all that other stuff. It just it was incredible. Dallas Fort Worth tell inner airport, so easy to get in and out of. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: super easy to get in out of. that was not an issue. It's you know, it's not like Atlanta or any of them other ones. So I just they hit it Jacob: No. What I Jason: they hit it out of the park, dude. Jacob: yeah. Yeah, and what I liked about and you you know you talked about the field house with all the batting cages. It's central location. Jason: Central. Jacob: You don't have to go to field 10 because there's two over there, and field you know, four over here because there's four more. Yeah. Jason: Yep. Or wait for a team to get out of a cage. Jacob: I mean what do we I mean we were there, we did the video, what do we count? Sixteen Jason: Yeah. Jacob: cages. Jason: I don't dude. There was a lot. There was a lot. And there's plenty of room for everybody. Like each team had two cages. Jacob: And and I like it. Yeah. Jason: Yeah. Like each team that was warming up to play had two cages. They had a a front toss cage and you know what I mean? Or whatever, however they did it. But I Jacob: Alive are you know. Jason: mean it's just yeah, it just there was no there was no waiting around. It just I I'm just telling you, man, if you have an opportunity to play there, you'll regret it if you don't. Does that Jacob: Go. Yeah. Jason: make sense? Jacob: Yeah. One hundred percent. But you know, HUD was really hoping that he had done enough this year to make that list. And so did Willie, Jacob: And I th I thought he did. Jason: so did Jonah, so did a lot of texts from coaches coming in afterwards. and the list the list got revealed at five o'clock on his birthday. And that was a hard day. I'm not gonna lie. It was a hard day because I know that he was trying to be cool and he was trying to not crack, but I know I know that it was hurt I know that it was hurting him, you know, not just because it Jacob: Yeah, his feelings were Jason: was his birthday, but because he really I mean, he really, really did feel like he had he felt like he had done what he needed to do this year. Like he had an incredible year. And it you know, it is what it is. So that day was hard. and I I struggled that day with not doing a podcast. just Jacob: We were supposed to. Jason: we were supposed to, man. But I I really honestly okay. Well, it wasn't Jacob: You had to be there, man. It'd be dead. Jason: just that, but guys gotta understand this studio, there's about a four inch wall that separates me. From that earb or that earlobe and I wanted I did not want to pour salt on the wound that day. Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: because it was birthday day. And so we chose to get the hell out of the house and go get our minds off of it. Now I will say this: the blessing for him was was when that re that list got released at five o'clock, you know where he was at? Jacob: Football. I know because I called you and I was I mean and you Jason: Football. Thank God. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Jacob: you knew I was Jason: Yeah, yeah, you were shocked. I the and and and and listen, I'm not yeah, yeah, yeah. No, everybody Jacob: yeah, I don't think shocked was the word. Yeah. Jason: that is on the list is one thousand percent deserving of being on that list. Jacob: Yes. Mm-hmm. Jason: That job that him and who else is in that? Jacob: J Mac, isn't Jason: Yeah, J Mac. Jacob: I mean, because if you really think about it, there was how many teams? Forty teams? PGI, at least ten kids, that's four hundred kids. And you're only taking thirty six. But like we were able to watch, you know, and and he was able to play with two kids with Andrew P V and you know, Gino Newcelli, who who did make the list and Gino had an incredible year. Gino is Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: you know, it'll be surprising if Gino doesn't make it every year now, if he continues on the trajectory that he's on. You know, Andrew, same thing, you know. but it was just and it was an incredible opportunity because I had people reach out to me that were expecting to see HUD's name on the list and reach out to me and say that that were also on the list, but they're older boys, okay, so they've been at this age, and offer to have conversations with him. Jacob: that's cool. Jason: yeah, and I I chose not to because I could see Hud processing it in a way of HUD is quiet. You know this. HUD's quiet. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: He's a quiet leader. He leads by Jacob: Exactly. Jason: action and not really work like he doesn't vocalize a lot of things. And I could tell he was processing this and he was getting through it. you know, and he I could see in his eyes that he was like, Okay, okay, that's fine. You know what I mean? Like, yeah. Instead of instead of going to the corner and crying about it, he was like, All right, it's cool. Like, let's go. You know, he knowing that his year to shine. Is next year on the big field where his range in the middle infield Jacob: Yeah. Jason: and his speed and his balls to the gap, you know what I mean, are all he knows that his years are coming. Thirteen and fourteen are his years to shine. He's never gonna be a power bat. He's never gonna have a dad with a famous last name. You know what I mean? There's just a lot of things. So he I I just I was very grateful though to the people that reached out and were just like, you know, hey, you know, like this is not So not the end all be all. You'll Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: be just fine. You know who you are, kind of thing. So that was really that was really, really good for me. And we just went out we went out and got ice cream for his birthday that night, and opened up some gifts. So Phone was down, it wasn't in his hand, you know, the feed wasn't Jacob: Yeah. Jason: going through, and that was key. and then the other blessing is is that we turned around and left for Cooperstown. So, you know, it was Jacob: Yeah. You were home what, two days? Jason: yeah, two days and we had to leave for Cooperstown, something like that. I don't know, three days, whatever it was. And and also I was sick as a dog at that time, Jacob: Yeah. Jason: as you can still tell. I w whatever I got, I got on the airplane coming home from Texas. Because I was as soon as I landed, dude, I was like hit with a brick wall. And and now HUD's actually got it. He played, he played the last four days of Cooperstown completely sick. Completely Jacob: In the rain. Jason: sick. Yeah, like living on Dayquill. Living on Dayquill. So I mean, to the point where he did not want to even go back to the bear. Like he was just like, Dad, I can't do this. I have no energy. I'm like, go, you'll be fine. Take Dayquil. Jacob: Mm-hmm. Jason: This liquid meth and go. Jacob: Yeah. Jason: so anyways, getting back to Select Fest. I really I had high hopes. I thought we were gonna I thought I was gonna make the drive down there next weekend. I just can't afford it. I can't afford to do it. And he really wanted to go watch Gino and Andrew and RJ and everybody, all of his friends. I mean, Jacob: Yeah. Jason: every single one of those kids he knows and he's friends with him. But he really wanted to go watch Gino and Andrew. PV and I just don't I just can't swing it, man. I just can't financially swing a twenty four hour trip to Georgia with gas prices the way the way are Jacob: Send them send them with the new celllies. Jason: what's that? Jacob: Send them with Gino. Jason: I I mean I honestly could, but I have to drive three and a half hours to his house. So Jacob: yeah. Jason: that's seven hours round trip. So I mean I absolutely could and would. And HUD would be right there, you know. He HUD would probably park himself right in the center of the backstop so that he wasn't picking the side because, you know, RJ and J you know and and Jacob: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Jason: everybody else, you know, like, you know, Owen and and all of the kids, you know, I mean, that he loves. you know, they're on both sides, but yeah, it's a special, special group. And I wanted to do a podcast, man, where I was kind of secluding 36 families and like listen, for you 36, you can just thumb right by this. This has Jacob: Yeah. Jason: nothing to do for you. But it's a it's a beautiful thing. It's a beautiful, it's a beautiful thing to be a part of. I know that there's a lot of coaches that despise it. Now I will say this, okay. I do want to bring this up because I brought this up with you before. I've been told that I have a wrong take on this, but I just want to ask a question. I have not asked Tony this, but why is there not a north, south, east, and west select fest? And then you have a one-day four-team tournament instead of a one-day two-team tournament Jacob: Good to you. Jason: of East and West. And the reason why I say this is not is not because it well, yes, because it would be more roster spots and my kid might have a chance to get on it. But the states of Florida, Texas, and California make up so many human beings that It really does, it really does limit the reach that PG can have. Now, I will say, like, this is a huge thing for Gino New Celly. Like, when's the last time they had a kid from West Virginia on this list? So this is Jacob: Yeah. Jason: big for them. This is big for them. And this is big for West Virginia. I like I hope the whole goddamn state of West Virginia backs him, you know what I mean? Gets behind Gino, which they will, you know what I mean? but I'm just saying, like. I would love to see a north, south, east, and west select fest. And here's why. More opportunity for more kids to make that and showcase that. Okay. I understand it would cost more money. I get that. I I understand. I understand that they take the kids to Dave and Busters and I understand that they bust all these kids around. But maybe go from then 30 like you could trim it down. Like, you know what I mean? And so now those phones ring on different, you know, with different numbers. so when that phone call comes in, I think it, you know, I think it helps. But yeah, bro, that is in 60 days. And that'll be the first time Isaac gets his eyes, eyeballs on a lot of these boys. He knows a you know, he knows a few of the Indiana kids, but The rest of us were just these myths that he's watched on Diamond Cast. So I do think that Jonah, I think Jonah has worked out with him before.
