Acts WK3: All right. so in Acts chapter two, we're just gonna pick up where we left off last week. and it's verse twenty-two is where we're gonna start. But as we get started, okay, we w just wanna think about where we left off. This is one of the one of my favorite passages when we look at Acts chapter two, because this is like the birth of the New Testament church. And so yeah last week you we we talked about how the Holy Spirit fell upon the people and they could hear the gospel in their own native tongue. I think about that and I think how how miraculous, how cool that would have been to be able to be there and to experience that. And and so today we're in the middle of Peter's message to the people because the people were like, man, what in the world is going on? And so Peter is gonna boldly stand up and he's gonna preach his very first sermon. And you gotta understand that these are just ordinary guys. You gotta understand that that Peter was just an ordinary person just like you need. He wasn't really educated. He wasn't he was a hard worker, but he wasn't skilled. He wa had been a fisherman. And then God miraculously changed his life. And now Peter has the boldness to stand up and to preach his very first sermon. I remember my first sermon. in 1997, I I wanted to be an architect, my senior year in high school. very timid, very shy, didn't want to get up in front of everybody. If I was sitting at school, I would never be the sir the student that would raise their hand and give out an answer. I'd be the student that was just there and just wanted to s experience everything, being silent. And really the only time I'd talk is if, the teacher would call on me. Okay. So I was I was super just shy and reserved and wanting to be an architect, wanting to start my life, live it how you know, and and just had these big dreams. And then all of a sudden the Lord began to stir in my heart and really began to change the course of my life. I didn't tell nobody. I didn't tell nobody. And I just I it was kind of between me and the Lord. And then all of a sudden, I was sitting in church and it was in November of 1997 in my home church. And I heard the message and then I was walking out the back door and the pastor would stand at the door every Sunday and he'd shake everybody's hand as they walked out the door, and he looked at me and he said, Joey. He said, God's got something in special for you. He said, I don't know what it is. But he said, I can tell when you're sitting in the service, he said, you're listening and learning. He said, I also think you're sitting there wondering what it would be like to preach. Nobody had I had not told anybody. And I was I went home that afternoon and I talked to my parents and I mean I was in tears. I was like I I was a train wreck. And that night I went back to church. We had Sunday night church and that night I walked forward and told the pastor that I felt called into ministry. I didn't know what it looked like, but I felt like the Lord was calling me into ministry. And so he prayed with me. And he told the congregation and he said, All right, so next Sunday night you'll be preaching your first sermon And I was like, What? and panic, like fear, shock. what do I do? What do I say? I I can't do this. And I can only imagine what Peter was experiencing. Peter was a different kind of personality than me. He he would he was very he he liked to speak. Peter was one that was kind of the spokesperson of the group. But at the same time I have to think Peter had to be so incredibly nervous. he had to be thinking, my word, like how in the world? I mean, can you imagine these guys? You've got to understand that that Jesus has just raised from the dead. They've got they've gone through the emotions of the death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus has spent 40 days with them, and then all of a sudden he says, which is our theme verse, okay? If you look up that your little worksheet, you're gonna see that, Acts 1.8. He says, But the Holy Spirit is gonna come upon you. And when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you Will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, the ends of the earth. And so they Jesus just went up and they were like looking, going, Where did Jesus go? And then the angel reminded them, and so they went back to Jerusalem just like they were told to go, and they waited. But could you imagine being in the waiting room for going, Okay, there is eleven us guys that know the gospel. We know the truth, and God has told us to be witnesses. And and and and what are we gonna do? ha if God doesn't show up, if God doesn't move, if God doesn't speak through me, We're we're just sunk. could you imagine? think about it. there is way more than just eleven or twelve people in this room. But if you were the only people on the planet that knew the gospel, and Jesus was saying, Okay, I'm leaving. It's your turn. I want you to walk out of these doors and I want you to go change the world. I want you to tell the world about Jesus. what a daunting task. some of us I For some it may be like, let's go. And then y'all some of y'all might be sitting there going, my word, right? Well when I was preaching my first sermon, it was, my word. Like, what in the world am I gonna do? And I can only imagine as Peter sees God begin to move here and the Holy Spirit fall fresh upon the people and begin to stir. He he stands up with this great boldness, and it's the Holy Spirit empowering him to change the world. And so what we have here is we got Peter under the influence of the Holy Spirit expressing himself and and to stand up and preach this good news. And God calls us as disciples to go and change the world. And so the bottom line in the in your in your notes is that Jesus changed lives. He he changes lives, and changed lives changed the world, right? So if Jesus has changed my life, then he wants me to go and you and whoever he's created me to be and fashioned me to be, he wants to use me to go and change the world. He wants me to go and turn the world upside down. And so, Peter is expressing that. Peter wants these individuals, all these masses of Jews that have come into the city of Jerusalem for Pentecost, he all wants, he wants to point them to Jesus. Because when you're changed, you're changed. And Peter was a changed life. And so he was wanting to make a change in the world and a difference in the world, and there was nothing greater for him to stand up and preach and be the spokesperson for the Lord Jesus Christ. So let's look at. second excuse me, Acts chapter 2, and we're gonna look at verse 22 because I want us to see if God has called us to to to change the world, okay? If God has called us to to change lives and turn the world upside down, there's some things that we need to look at, some things that we need to examine and to focus on. And in verse 22 is the very first one. In verse 22, he says, Men of Israel, listen to these words. Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs, which God performed through him in your midst, just as you yourselves know. So when we look at this verse, immediately we got to see and focus on the recognition. The recognition. Who Jesus is. He wants them to see that he is the Messiah. He's the one promised from the Old Testament. He is the Christ. Peter points his audience to Jesus. God affirms Jesus' identity as the Messiah through his mighty works. When you look at the word mighty there in these miracles and these wonders and their signs, the word dunimos is there. And that's I'm going Greek on you just for a minute, but I want you to know that that's the word we get power from dynamite. how we have dynamited around here a little bit, and if you you you you can see it, right? The power and the ability of that. And that's what he was saying. Jesus, in the three and a half years that he was on the earth in his ministry, he was showing God's power and his might and his strength. And he says, You guys gotta recognize that. You gotta recognize that Jesus. Is Lord. And that's your blank there. We recognize Jesus as the Lord. Don't you see that He is the promised Messiah? And Peter's like, How could you miss it? And we look at that and we're like, how in the world could you see Jesus, you know, walk on water and feed 5,000 people and hear a paralytic and paralytic and cast out demons? How how could we see him raise people from the dead and not recognize him as the Lord? That's what Peter's trying to get them to see. How how could you miss this? How could you miss The death, burial, and the resurrection of Jesus, and live as if it didn't make any impact in your life. We talked a little bit about this in in a in our small groups. we we talked about Job and how Job there wasn't even the word of God at that point as far as Moses had not written the law, and yet God still moved in l Job's life to where he knew that his Redeemer lived. He knew that there was a God, he believed and placed saving faith in him. And so when we look at this, we gotta say, Man, how in the world can we not? In Bible class, just this week we were talking about the baptism of Jesus. by the way, if you don't know, I teach middle schoolers. you can pray for me. and I teach middle schoolers, old ne New Testament or the life of Jesus, and we're there talking about the baptism of Jesus. And and we're talking about the audible voice of God. I mean, that's another cool cool place that I would love to have been when the audible voice of God said, This is my beloved son, who I'm well pleased. I mean, could you imagine that what that have been like? And one of the little kids raised his hands and he said, Mr. Marshall, he said, Wasn't the Pharisees standing there listening to that? And I was like, Yeah. He said, why didn't they get it? Why didn't they get it? And I said, I don't know. I don't know. Why didn't they get it? Why didn't the Jews connect the dots? Why didn't they get it? But looking back to or looking forward 2,000 years to where we are today, why in the world can't people get it? Why don't they get it? You might be sitting in the room today. Why don't you get it? Do you recognize that Jesus is Lord, that he he is God, and that that he's come in flesh? And and and sometimes we think of Jesus as being this faraway, removed religious figure. And if that's all you think Jesus is and he don't have any relevance to your life today, then I hope that you're listening to this sermon. I hope the Lord pierces your heart because I'm telling you, he is so real and he's making himself known over and over and over and over again. But for some reason, some people just continue to miss it. And I beg with you this morning, don't miss it. Don't miss who Jesus is as our Lord. Recognize that. The second one is responsibility. The responsibility. We've got to focus on responsibility. And so as Peter is preaching this message in verse 23, he tells them about who killed Jesus? Who's responsible for Jesus' death? Look at what he says in verse 23. He said, This man, speaking of Jesus, delivered over by the predetermined plan and the foreknowledge of God, you nailed him to a cross by the hands of godless men and put him to death. Hey, if we're gonna turn the world upside down, first of all, we have got to recognize Jesus as Lord. Second of all, we have got to make sure that we understand our responsibility. I love one of my favorite lessons that I teach in the New Testament is who killed Jesus. We get to the to the death of Jesus and the crucifixion. Who killed Jesus? Have you ever thought about that before? Who killed Jesus? Because when you look at this verse, I love this verse because Peter really does just an incredible job, okay, and the influence of the Holy Spirit. And course, we know these words are divine words, but he he tells us about the sovereignty of God. And the responsibility of man right here. Do you see the response? Do you see that God predetermined to send Jesus to the cross? He predetermined from the foundations of the world. It was God who was sending his son for that particular moment. It was pl his plan. It was his his it was his focus. It when you look at who killed Jesus? Hey, if God hadn't sent his son, he knew what he was going to do. He knew that he was going to die on the cross. It was God's sovereign plan. And so when we look at this, God was not caught off guard. He wasn't caught by surprise when sin entered into the world. And it was by no accident that Jesus was killed at that very time, at that very hour. It was the predetermined plan of God. But then you also look at man's responsibility. Did the Jews kill Jesus? Well, that's what Peter says right here. He said, Whom you crucified? That's pretty in your face. But why why did he do that? Because he wanted them to know it was their sin, it was their wrongdoings. Because they rejected the Messiah and they turned him over to godless men. They killed Jesus. They had a responsibility. But what about the Gentiles? Are we off the hook? The Gentiles? Well, the Gentiles are those godless men. It was Pilate, and it was the soldiers that actually went through with the crucifixion and hung him on the cross. Who killed Jesus? Who's responsible? Well, we looked at the predetermined plan of God. We've looked at the Jewish people. We've looked at the Gentiles, but you know what? We have to look at ourselves. You realize that I killed Jesus? You killed Jesus? It was your sin that held him there on the cross. It was because of your actions, my actions, that put Jesus on the cross, and he hung there and he died because of our sin. It was my sin. It was your sin. It was the debt of sin that held him on the cross. And we have to take responsibility. This is a magnitude moment, okay? This is a huge moment for them. Because in order for them to receive salvation, they had to understand what responsibility they had and what they were responsible for. And it was for the crucifixion of Jesus. You see, we sometimes when we look at that, we're like, man, and this is far after. No, we're talking only 50 days. We're talking 53 days. We're only talking just a couple months. It was fresh on their minds. this is a Roman persecution or and a Roman crucifixion. And so they knew it was burning in their minds of what it looked like for Jesus to be hanging on the cross. It was fresh. And yet he points them back to the cross and says, It is your responsibility of why Jesus was hanging on that cross. It was your responsibility for the reason why he died and was in that agony and was in that pain. And so who killed Jesus? Okay? Yet God was working these events, even through the human rebellion, to bring about his eternal purposes. He was going to bring a tragedy into triumph because the next thing Peter lets them know is the resurrection. this is where it gets really good. we see, hey, I want you to recognize, don't miss that Jesus is Lord. Hey, I want you to make sure that you understand that it is our responsibility that put Jesus on the cross, but I want to point you to the resurrection. I want you to point I want to point you to the fact that he is not in the grave, that he is Defeated the grave, he's conquered the grave, and he is alive and he is living. Look at what he says there in verse 24. He says, But God raised him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for him to be held in its power. You see, Peter has announced us that God raised Jesus up from the dead, fulfilling his purpose. He was fulfilling his promise from the Old Testament. And all these people are witnesses of that. You see, the cross was not defeat, but it was part of God's plan from the very beginning that he was going to send Jesus to become the sacrifice for sin. And yet, all it was part of his plan that three days later he was going to raise from the dead. It was all part of God's plan, that he was going to defeat death, that he was going to conquer the grave. In verse 24, I love it when he says, at the end of the agony of death. One commentator says it's like the beginning of birth pangs. It's loosing him for the pangs of death and freeing him from the agony of death. You see, that's what he a word picture that we can see here is the fact that you you ever heard of birth pangs? I know you ladies are like, I don't know, yeah, yeah. Birth pangs. And the pain, but the joy. You go through that temporary pain. because there is something far greater as that new child comes into the world. Temporary suffering, temporary agony, temporary pain, but the joy. And that's what he wants you to see right here. Yes, the agony of death. Praise God. Praise God that he did not stay in the grave, but he has brought new life. And that's what the resurrection brings. It brings life to each. Us. And that's what he wants them to see. He's saying, the resurrected Jesus, it's demonstrating victory over death and this new life. And we are all witnesses of this resurrection. And since Peter's audience is primarily Jews, he's going to go into Psalms 16 and he's going to quote David, verses 8 through 11 of Psalm 16. And that's what we find in verses 25 through 28. Listen to what he says. He says, For David says to him, or of him, I saw the Lord always in my presence, for he is at my right hand so that I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exal exalted. Moreover my flesh also will live in hope, because you will not abandon my soul to Hades or to the grave, nor allow your holy one to undergo decay. You have made known to me the ways of life, and you will make full of gladness with your presence. Brethren, I may confidently say to you in regard to the patriarch David, he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us this day. And so because he was a prophet and he knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne, he looked ahead and he spoke the resurrection of Christ, that he was neither abandoned to Hades or the grave, nor did his flesh suffer. This Jesus. God raised up again to which we are all witnesses. So what he does is Peter knows that these are Jews. He knows they know the Old Testament really, really well. And so he's connecting them back to David because out of all the kings in the Old Testament, David was the one king that they're gonna know. He and and God promised David that there was going to be an everlasting kingdom and that his kingship would last forever. He promised David. And the people that the Messiah was gonna come through his line. Thousand years before Jesus ever came, he promised David this. And so what he wanted them to do is to connect the dots. And he said, even David, your hero king, he he is came and he died, and he was buried right over there. I mean, they're sit they're in Jerusalem. He's like he he's dead. He he he went to the grave and and he and that's where he remains, right over here. So he wasn't talking about himself in Psalm sixteen. Who is he talking about? Who's the holy one? Who is the holy one that that he sees here that's not gonna undergo decay? It's Jesus. He says, You have made known to me the ways of life, and you will make full the gladness with your presence. See in verse 31, he said, hey, he said, David was looking to a resurrection. Who is that? It's Jesus. He was trying to get them to see that the resurrection was also the plan of God from the very beginning, and David, the greatest king of the Old Testament, he was the one who pinned those and knew that the Holy One was coming. Trying to let them see that, hey, You need to understand that the tomb is empty. You say, what does that mean for me today? Hey guys, the resurrection changes everything, it gives us new life. Our hope rests in a living Savior. And so I ask you this morning: what are you building your life on? What are you building your life on? Is it on the hope of the resurrection, or is it on the things that this world has to offer? Because if we're building our hope and our energy and our time is all being spent on the wor the things of this world, then Jesus told us about that kind of foundation. He said it's like sand and it's just gonna wash away. But he said, if you're building your house on your life upon the foundation of the Lord Jesus Christ and the death, burial, and resurrection, and he is Lord, then you're building on a foundation that is a rock solid foundation that will not waver and will not in any storm comes, you're going to be anchored to the rock Jesus Christ. What are you building your life on? What's important? Because if we're gonna turn the world upside down, we have to recognize who Jesus is as Lord. We have to understand our responsibility, and we also have to be looking to the resurrection. And then all of a sudden things change here. And he begins to to to reveal. Okay, and there's this revelation as the Holy Spirit empowers and we can see the Lordship. Look at verse 33. He says, Therefore, having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured forth this which you both see and hear. In other words, he's telling them right here, hey guys, what you've been asking about, this what in the world is going on, what you're seeing and what you're hearing is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Just as God promised in his word. Thir verse thirty-four he says, For it was not David, for it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says, The Lord said to my Lord. In other words, the the Lord God said to the my to my Lord, to to to to Jesus, to the Messiah, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. This is Psalm one ten, verse one, another prophecy that is being filled before them. And therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified. You see how he points him back to responsibility? He points all these people back to their you killed him. Okay? But he's want that he wants them to see the revelation. He wants them to see that Peter declares that this exalted Jesus has poured out the promise of the Holy Spirit. And God has made him both Lord and Christ. Jesus is alive. He exalted to the to the right hand of God the Father, and David confirms it. You say, well, what does that mean for me? What does that mean for us today? Well, you've got to confess him as Savior and also confess him as Lord. I pray that the Lord has revealed Himself to you and you've seen, and a lot of people see him as Savior. But do you know Jesus talked more about being Lord than He did Savior in the gospels? Because he doesn't, he wants to be savior, and he is savior, but he also demands lordship. He wants us to make him the Lord over our lives. And that's what Peter was wanting them to see that he is Lord. And if he is Lord over my life, then I'm going to crucify my agenda, my wants, my wishes, my will. I'm going to pick up my plan, take down my plan, and I'm going to pick up. His plan, allowing the Holy Spirit to work in and through me. Here's a i it it's his plan is replaced. our our plan, excuse me, our plan is replaced. And that happened to me at the the age of seventeen when God called me into ministry. He had a plan. I was gonna be an architect. He wanted me to preach. You can imagine being senior in high school and all the kids are going around telling you what they're gonna do once they graduate, and they're they ask me, and I'm saying. I've been called into ministry and I'm gonna pr I'm gonna be a preacher. And I looked back at that 'cause it was bold bold statements for me to say that in public school, but even back then. And I I I you know, that's what that's who I was. That's what I had to do. But I look back there and I'm thinking, look at my life twenty nine years later. And how God changed me and He had a plan and He and He and He had a purpose. And I think, Bo, I think about your testimony, and I think, what a changed guy. Isn't that awesome? Isn't that awesome when you can look back and you can say, I made Jesus Lord of my life, and because he is Lord, He it wasn't my plan. It's not my wants. It's not my agenda. It's not my will. But But it's what God's doing. And I just get to be the vessel. I just get to be the instrument that God wants to use. And so what we see here is the Holy Spirit empowering God's people to be the witness, to change the world. And so Peter goes going back to verse 33, he's like, I want you to know that you can see it. I want you to see it. Recognize it this time. See it. Hear it. What you're experiencing is the power of the Holy Spirit. And we're all witnesses of it. And so the gospel is not a self-improvement plan. The gospel is not about what I can get or what I even really what I can give or what what I what I can do for the Lord. Sometimes we say that, what can I do for the Lord? And here's a a better phrase, more accurate biblically accurate phrase. Don't do good things for God. But just be the empty vessel and allow him to fill you up with the power of Holy Spirit his Holy Spirit and allow the Spirit of God to be used in and through you. You see, it's not Joey up here speaking. physically it is. But I don't know how many times I've I've sat down after I've preached a message and gone, what in the world did I say? You know why? Because I'm just the vessel. And that's the way we need to look at our lives. We are witnesses. And testimony. We have testimony. We just got to go share it. And he wanted them to he wanted to reveal that to them. And they got to the point where they saw the presence of God. They felt the presence of God. What they were hearing, this message was piercing their hearts. See, we can have the latest and greatest technology. We can have lights, we can have modern music, and we can have an awesome pastor, which we do. We have an incredible pastor. And we have some incredible people. I love you guys. I hope that you love being here and being in a fellow a fellowship, a family of believers, and to encourage each other and lift each other up. But do you realize something? If we don't have Jesus and if we don't have the Holy Spirit fresh on us, w it's nothing. Because the Holy Spirit is what makes the difference. And we've got to we we need to understand that. And we need to realize that. And when the people felt the power of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit began to do a work that only he could do. Look at verse 37. Here it is. Now, when the people heard this, they were pierced to the heart. They were cut to the core. It's like every preacher's won't dream is when somebody comes forward and says, Hey, I want to respond to the invitation. and and and he and these people are like, Hey, what do we need to do, Peter? What what can we do? The word pierced to the heart of that phrase. Homer would use it this same phrase, and what he would say is it's almost as if it was a horse. Trotting down and his hooves hitting the earth. Could you imagine a horse laying on your chest or stepping on your chest? They were cut to the core. It was like, my goodness, what do we do? You may have that moment even right now, this morning. You may be like, all right, Joey, what do I gotta do? What do I gotta do to make it right? And look at what he says. And they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, brethren, what shall we do? And Peter said to them, Repent. Each of you and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the pro this promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord God will call to himself. Do you know where those far off people? You ever thought about that? Where those far off people he was talking about? And with other with many other words, he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation. And so then those who had received his word were baptized. And that day there were added about three thousand souls. could you imagine? Have you ever been anywhere where you saw three thousand people come to Christ all on the same day? that that is that is crazy. Crazy. I was thinking about when have I seen that? And I've only seen it just a couple of times in my life. I saw it in ninety seven when I went to to Washington, DC to the Standing and Gap con it was a conference or it was like a it was Promise Keepers. And we were up in in Washington DC and it was like there was hundreds of thousands of men and I saw all kinds of men give their lives to Jesus. As a young as a boy, that was awesome. In twenty twenty five or twenty two thousand five, I took My youth group, I was in Arkansas and I took some just country bumpkin boys from Arkansas and some girls from Arkansas, took to New York City. it was like country coming to town. And we went to New York City to the Billy Graham crusade and we were there as counselors. I trained my students to be able to share the gospel and we were counselors at the crusade and our group sa we saw thousands of people come to faith in Christ. But our group alone saw over a hundred people come to faith in Christ. It was amazing. And to see my kids, that was the exciting part to say, I got another one right here. it's so exciting. Because it's contagious when you get to share the gospel and people respond. And and in Panama here recently, the last time we went we saw fifty people give their lives to Christ. I mean, I I We I hope you long for you long for a movement of God? Do you long for that movement? I I this is one of those times I was like, man, I wish I was there and I got to experience this. I would love to have seen this. And he says, repent. Turn away from your sin and turn towards God. Repentance is an inward change. It affects your mind. It affects your heart. It affects the attitude and the will. It affects your actions. But before we can ever be filled with the Holy Spirit, we've got to rid ourselves of sin. We've got to rid ourselves of the ugly. And that's what he told him to do: repent. It's an inward change. Something happens where they inwardly change and then he says to be baptized. It means to be to dip or to immerse or to plunge. It's it's the it's the the sinking of a ship. Okay, in the i if they was a ship on the Mediterranean Sea in in Jesus' day and it sunk, they'd say it got baptized. It was no more. And he's saying what you need to do is be baptized. You need to be baptized because when you're baptized, you are dipped and you are you you're you're sunk and you are no more. And then all of a sudden you come up out of that water and In Jesus Christ. You see, the repentance, based on their faith in the message that Peter was preaching, there was re genuine heartfelt repentance in which inwardly the people were turning to the Lord and they were going God's way. And then they got into the water. And it was an outward expression of their inward faith. It was an outward expression of what God had done on the inside of them. could you imagine? It would take days for 3,000 people to be baptized. Especially the way we do we just line up, right? wouldn't that be cool? I can't imagine what they were doing. But we know that those three thousand people were saved and they were baptized. And notice what they were promised. In verse 3, he promised them that their sins would be forgiven, and he promised them that they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Praise God, the Spirit of God lives inside of us, and he will never leave us and he will never forsake us. You say, Joey, why is that so important? Because I'm telling you what, it means that I can do things that I can never do on my own. The Holy Spirit empowers me and gives me capabilities to be a witness, and that's what he wants to do with you as well. To turn the world upside down. To change the world. In my room, in my classroom, going out the door, I have a big old sign right above the door because I want all the students to see it. Go change the world. Because Jesus changes lives. And when Jesus changes lives, he changes lives so we can go change the world and make a difference. Those eleven guys turned the world upside down. And the gospel came to us. And now it's our turn to go take the gospel to somebody else. That's what it that's what it's all about. So the question is, how do you respond? As the b praise band comes, I ask you how how how how are you going to respond? Hopefully you've recognized that Jesus is Lord. Hopefully you you've understood your responsibility of sin and and that it was my sin that hung Jesus there. It was your sin. That you see the glorious resurrection. He didn't stay in the grave, but he raised from the dead. And gives new life. And then we can see right there in the text that the revelation, maybe God has revealed himself to you today. Maybe you've never seen it. And for the very first time you're saying, I need to be saved. I need to be saved. I need to accept Christ. I need to repent of my sin. And I need to turn away from my sin and become a follower of Jesus. That's an invitation for you right now. Or maybe you're here and you're like, well, I've been saved, but I've never been baptized. that's a that's a command. It's not a an option for a believer. Because it paints a picture for the whole world to see that I am a genuine follower of Jesus and I've made him Lord of my life. And then you may be here this morning and you say, Joey, I know, I know that I've been saved, I know, I've been baptized. But let me ask you, is there a compartment? Is there a part of you where Jesus is not Lord? This happens to me. It happens to all of us. Is there a compartment in your life right now that you need to surrender to Jesus? Because if he is Lord, He's got to be Lord of it all. He doesn't want just half your heart. He wants it all. Have you given him your whole heart? So the altar's open for you to come and pray. I'll be standing here. I know Miss Tina in the back, and there's several other people. If you need prayer, just ask somebody, will you pray for me? But if we're going to see a movement of God, it's the Holy Spirit moves in this room today. God doesn't want us to just say, Wow, look at Pentecost. Wasn't that awesome? He wants us to live it. And the Holy Spirit is present. He's just waiting for his people to respond. of the balls in our in your court. How do you respond? How do we respond? Father God in heaven, I come before you right now. I thank you for your message and I thank you for your word. I thank you for Peter's example of boldness. And God right now in this room I sent your s presence, your Holy Spirit with us. God I think mo all of us, God would love to see a mighty movement of God. Lord, there may be someone in this room today that does not know you as Lord and Savior. They need to repent of their sin and place saving faith in Jesus. God, there's some that need to be baptized. That outward expression of an inward change. Lord, there's some of us, God, that just there's something we're holding on to. And you say, I want to be Lord of your life. Well, if you're Lord, that means you have your owner, your ruler, your master. God, so many times we can say, well, you can have this much, but you can't have that. So Lord, if there's people in this place today and they just there's come compartments of their life that they just need to turn over to you that, Lord, that they would just fall on their face and get right. And more importantly than anything, God, that you would change us to be more like you. That when we leave this place, that we would be spirit-filled witnesses of Almighty God, ready to go out into a world and turn it upside down. And we thank you for what you're going to do in Jesus' name. Amen.
