Coach Blu: I feel so sorry for people who don't know us. That is Blu: No. Coach Blu: the fantastic placard you got there. Is that a TV card? Blu: I well it's it's one of my it's one of my T mu cards and I I felt Coach Blu: Nice dude. Blu: like it was a good introduction to today's podcast. 'Cause I I mean I guess it could be talking about, you know, us as a podcast, but you know, it I guess it's probably more meant as like a love card. I don't know. Coach Blu: Can I tell something funny? That someone, I don't know who they were, commented on one of our socials and it was a dumb comment, but it was so dumb that they they did twice. And I'm like, Blu: I saw that. Coach Blu: Josh Josh, there's something I need to probably tell you about me. Like I I am I am facetious and petty at best when it comes to that kind of stuff. And I'm like, dude, why are you even here? You took the time to comment something dumb and you don't even know how to Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: run your Facebook because you know, you posted it twice. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: to me I'm thinking, I gotta knock that stuff off, but I thought that was funny. That would have been a great I'm gonna t I'm gonna go back and take a screenshot of that and then I'm gonna post that picture underneath those those those wise acre comments. Blu: You should. Cause well the funny thing is is we were talking about bullying, online bullying. Coach Blu: That's that's right. We were. Blu: And I think the comment was I think it was directed toward me of You look like you've been you look Coach Blu: How dare you? Yeah. Blu: like you've been bullied or whatever and I'm like, What do that even mean? is it the dark circles under my eyes? You Like, yeah. Coach Blu: Yeah. Does that mean that I was your bull that does that mean that I was your bully? Because I'm like, hey man, reel it in. I thought it was f I thought it was funny though, but I'm with ya. I feel Blu: I mean it wa it Coach Blu: bad for people that don't know us. Blu: Yeah, it's true. I don't know. It wa it was funny though. That that comment i it I'm like, are you trying to make me feel bad? Or Coach Blu: I like it. I love it. Blu: like what's your frame of mind? That I know. when it comes to comments online, that's usually my my train of thought is like, Well what are you going here for? You know, what's going on here? Like what are you trying to do? And Coach Blu: I love it. I I have to reel it in because my voice to text doesn't work very good. And so if I'm upset at something and I'm trying to voice a text, it never comes out right. So I just stop. I'm just like it's not worth it. I'm moving on. Yeah. Hey, I'm gonna I'm gonna Blu: No, no, no, yeah. Coach Blu: peel I'm gonna peel my my my Diet Dr. Pepper Monopoly game here and see what I've won. I didn't know we were doing this again. I have Blu: I didn't either. Coach Blu: yeah, I mean, unless this is a really old cup. But it looks like I am still three hits away from getting a free hash brown. So well. There's a documentary Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: about that. Did you hear about the documentary a few years ago where they found out that people were cheating at this and they were actually like opened an FBI like investigation to find out why people from the same family were winning so much and they found out that it was a huge like like I guess organized crime ring to get people to win Monopoly at McDonald's. It was pretty funny. Blu: What so they could win more hash browns or what? Coach Blu: More money, more hash browns, more vacations. Yeah, it's pretty it's pretty hilarious. Like I had no idea that that Ronald McDonald was involved in organized crime, but yeah, I didn't know they were still doing that, but shoot. Blu: He keeps the he keeps the secrets in his shoes. Coach Blu: He does that little butt weird freaking weirdo. Have you ever jumped into any of these kind of hype things like this? Like have you ever entered sweepstakes or anything like that? Like are you the guy that signs up for something 'cause you see a car in the mall and you're like, I'm gonna win that car, and then you get, you know, blasted by like, you know, collar telemarketer for years. Blu: yes. Not as bad as my mother, all right. So it is a learned habit from from my parents, from my mom specifically. And it's really kind of showing now, you know, because my mom, long story short, she has dementia, well, Alzheimer's. And Coach Blu: Uh-huh. Blu: so we've kind of taken control a little bit of emails and and phone calls and and everything. And she she was complaining a few months ago or so about how many text messages she was getting. And so we look at the text messaging and like I kid you not, she was getting over a thousand a day. Just text, Coach Blu: my gosh. Blu: just text. And so we're scrolling through it and I'm like, it's It's pretty much all of the promotional text, right? Because Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: for at least the past ten years, I would say, I've never not seen my mom put something in the mail from national clearing house. Coach Blu: dang man. She's wondering why she's getting all these messages. Blu: So she Yeah, so she she is constantly entering sweepstate. She's constantly and she'll give little, you know, donations of of money here and there. you know, she is a registered Republican and so we've had to explain to her, mom, this is not Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: really Donald Trump that's texting you. He doesn't need your money. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: We don't want you to give him his money, but that that's a that's a whole other, issue conversation for another day. Coach Blu: Have mercy, absolutely. Blu: so we've had to go through and we've had to block, clear. I mean, we're almost to that point where we're probably gonna have to change your phone number, which she doesn't really want to do because I mean that's just such a hassle when Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: you've had that number for like twenty five years. So But it's it's rooted, Coach Blu: Mm. Blu: all of that is rooted in her entering every sweepstakes. I remember when we were on our way to Europe about nine years ago, we were at the Dallas airport, we were making our connecting flight from Dallas to Paris, and my mom urgently says, Josh, can you go run and find a a mailbox? I need to I I need to mail these important documents or whatever I'm like fine we're ha maybe half an hour until we board right so I'm running down the cor you know corridor of the Dallas airport and I'm looking at the the mail and I'm like it's it's national clearinghouse like that's all it was it wasn't like a letter it wasn't like a utility bill it was A sweep stakes. Did we win? No. But Coach Blu: my gosh. Blu: no. Coach Blu: But l good for you for getting it to the mailbox. I'd have like, well if that's what this is, Yeah. good for you. You're you're Blu: I'm like I Coach Blu: you're a good son. Blu: Well, yeah, it'd be nice if, Jesus blessed me with, a sweep states win here and there. Coach Blu: Jesus, Ed McMahon showing up with a big check, man. Let's go, right? Blu: Well, if Ed McMahon shows up at my doorstep, Jesus might as well just be there, know. So Coach Blu: Jesus is. Jesus is on his way. Yeah. No, I I've seen those man and and I fell for them a couple times, but like it's the funniest thing. It's there's one going around the internet right now that it's be the next top podcast host and it was funny because like be a you know do do a recording with Ryan Seacrest. I'm like that that guy's still around? Like that's funny. and it's funny to click on it and to see you can now see who follows who on Facebook. And it's so funny to see everybody like you know, in in the space that I'm in, trying to be the next podcast guest, knowing darn well none of you are getting on there. They're doing that just to get your information. That's that's all that is, you know. Like, come Blu: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: on now. Yeah, I don't know. Blu: Speaking of Ryan Seacrest though, he's I think he is your age, maybe Coach Blu: Is Ryan she caressed fifty, approaching fifty one in November? Blu: I think he's he might I I think he I I wanna say he's fifty. I know he could even be under fifty. I I could fact check this, but Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: it's too much, that's too much effort. But no. Coach Blu: Especially on your iPhone. You can't do that while you're recording. Blu: I will say though that like I was watching something that he's on. He's he's one of those celebrities that's on everything and you're like Where do you find the time in the day? Like and how are you still married to the same person for twenty years, you know? Coach Blu: Yeah, him and Slater from Save by the Bell, they're on everything. Blu: yeah. and and same with Carlton. Yeah. Coach Blu: Yeah, Carleton. Detroit. Blu: I see I don't even Alfonso I think is his name. And the reason why I know that is because I watch Dancing with the Stars. Coach Blu: cr that is that is his name. Carlton. And what's what's what's Slater's name? I can't remember what Slater's name is. Mario. Mario. Mario. Mario. Blu: Mario Mario? Mari? Mario. so yeah, anyway, I was I was watching something that that Ryan Seacrest was in and I'm like, he is looking almost as artificial as as gosh, who Dick Clark. You know Coach Blu: Mm. Blu: how Dick Clark looked the same from like nineteen eighty two to his death? Ryan Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: Seacrest I think is in his final form. Like he has achieved Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: his final form. This is how Ryan Seacrest is going to look until he he dies in another what thirty years, 'cause that's how this goes. Coach Blu: Dude, there's a weird thing happening like that. I don't know what's going on around Mar-a-Lago with Trump and and in the what is where is that Florida water area, whatever. Because Blu: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: there's some weird looking folks coming out of that little organization. I'm telling you, I think the plastic surgery is going a little too far. And I'm wondering, I mean, I don't know if you've seen this, but there's like a whole genre of what is going on with these people that are surrounding themselves with this guy because There's so much plastic surgery going on, man. It looks terrifying. What's that, what's that situation you you get when people you're you're seeing something in their face just isn't quite right, and our brains kind of pick it up. I can't remember the term. I'm a I'm a counselor and therapist, can't remember the term, but it's like you can pick off like that's symmetry is not quite right. And it's weird. It's this bizarre kind of like feeling of. That's why that's why monster movies do so good is because it kinda makes you unsettled, when you get a scary looking doll or something. I don't Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: know what's going on or who's paying for these plastic surgeons, but these guys need some help. They're not doing too good. People grow old gracefully. Blu: I I actually I noticed that. Coach Blu: We don't need the deep cuts to make your your joker smile, Blu: Well Coach Blu: right? Blu: and and I don't I yeah, I don't underst I don't understand. granted, we Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: are two average looking guys who are talking about beauty, right? Coach Blu: At best. At best. Blu: So this you know, don't don't take whatever we're saying at f lack of a better term, face value. Coach Blu: At face value. True. True. Blu: But I'm I'm there with you. It's like why why are you injecting your lips with, you know, whatever, right? Coach Blu: Mm. Blu: or you know, the t the the obsession with tanning and bronzing. I I don't know. I mean, I might agree with some politics here and there. I I I I don't subscribe to any one party, political party, if I'm Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: being completely transparent, they're all idiotic. Coach Blu: Agreed. Blu: but I'm like, you're not helping your case. If you want me to like agree with you, put on your best face forward, which Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: means don't like no plastic surgery. It's not needed. Coach Blu: It's i yeah, you know what? And and some of the smaller Botox things that helps out p pump out a wrinkle, fine. no worries. But when Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: you're going way under, i have you seen some of the celebrity photos that have like the before and afters, and they almost look just unrecognizable. Blu: Well, Madonna. Coach Blu: yeah, yeah, very strange. Like w what it happened to grow old gracefully, it's like you don't even look like the same person anymore. And I don't know. No, to each their own, obviously. But I'm like, God, there's some beauty in in just letting life happen too, you know, like that's it's a pretty wild Blu: Yeah. Yeah. Coach Blu: concept. But yeah, man, we gotta be careful with that kind of stuff, I would say. But that's that's just me. I don't know. Blu: will say I will say just I I don't s I I don't watch I don't watch the news. I don't watch I really just don't watch T V and and we've talked about this. Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: But for some reason I did catch the whole thing about I I can't even remember her name. The the ambassador to Greece. The only reason I think I I paid attention was Greece. But yeah, her yeah Coach Blu: She's one because she's from Greece. She's acting a little shady, that lady. I heard about that, yeah. Blu: Yeah, well well, i exactly. and I was looking at pictures from from the article or whatever, and Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: I'm sitting here and thinking to myself, you know, my ya would have a thing or two to say about, you know, her her lips, her plastic surgery. I mean my grandma I I I miss her, bless her heart. we would sit down like whenever I would go to lunch with her we'd just eat in her in her room and and we'd sit there and more often than not the conversation ended up talking about Britney Spears because she's good to the news. It's like why Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: does Britney Spears have to show her belly button? everybody has a belly button. Do people want to see my belly button? I'm like Well grandma to be honest with you, I don't want to see your belly button. but that has you know nothing to do with, you know Coach Blu: No one wants to see my belly button. Yeah. Blu: your look or whatever, but I'm like, it's because you're my grandma and that'd be kinda weird. But Coach Blu: Absolutely. Blu: so she and she had I loved her opinions because Coach Blu: The funniest thing. Blu: it was it it was like the you know these trends I I'm I'm like I know she would have a very strong opinion on plastic surgery and that you know God gave you only one face. I could I you could just picture her saying it Coach Blu: You know what's funny? Do you know what's funny? I and I hate Blu: Just be yourself, be authentic. That's all I think is the important thing. Coach Blu: this about myself. And it's human behavior. We all do this. And if you don't, you're lying. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: But there's I I watch, you know, I I do watch a great deal of social media and it's it's a it's a guilty pleasure. And I I like there's these on my feet every once in a while I get the the the carnival guy who's or the boardwalk guy who's drawing the the exaggerated features of someone, right? You you've seen those, like where Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: they'll sit down and I've I don't know if it's good or bad. It's probably a flaw that when they show the peop the people that are sitting down, I too can pick out like what the artist is going to exaggerate on their on their picture they're drawing. So like I'm like, man, that guy's smile, he's all teeth. And then it kinda pans back and it shows like the picture and it's the guy with this big mouth of teeth. I'm like, I shouldn't I shouldn't be watching this. You know what I'm saying? Like I don't want to be picking Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: out features because Mercy me. the I would never sit down with that 'cause know exactly what they'd go for. They they'd go for this nose, these these wicked crooked teeth, like they'd go they'd go ham on me. But I I don't I don't I don't like that. You how don't watch TV. I watch a lot of TV and I don't know why. It's just and usually it's it's just at night with like the family and stuff. re-watching not rewatching, but watching Carrie on Netfli no on Prime right now, which is adaptation of Stephen King's. Yeah, it's just a eight it's an eight part miniseries. Blu: Is it a series? Okay. Coach Blu: I'm telling you, brother, it's the this the director that did this did another one of my absolute favorite miniseries. it was called Midnight Mass. One of my absolute top, I mean it's probably not my number one series that I love. But this carry they're doing this adaptation of Stephen King's book. amazing, like absolutely amazing. you know, modernized for like, you know, the the day and age, you know, where where it's more like Instead of sissy spaces in the eighties getting getting bullied thro through Carrie like in the seventies where it's all like you know, the jocks and the football players and you know, n now it's all like, you know, tech savvy and and you know, fake in Instagram posts that that everyone thinks Carrie is is posting because she's a new weird girl. But I'm telling you, man, it is it is really, really good. And I'm curious, Josh, like y I know you don't get into this kind of stuff, but You don't get to do the the water the water cooler talk. what in the Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: world do you bring to your water cooler if you're not in the political scene, if you're not watching T V? Like are you just a listener guy? Like what are you bringing to your water cooler? Blu: That's a really good question. man, maybe I'm not Coach Blu: Do we still do water coolers now that everyone has a big ass Stanley or is we can do I don't know. Stanley talk. Blu: Right. Can we just call it Stanley Talk? that's so interesting because here I am with a podcast, right? And it's like, what Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: do I talk about? I really don't talk about much. I mean Coach Blu: It's the Seinfeld a podcast, let's be honest. Blu: talk about see I mean I talk I don't talk about running at work. Okay, I'm gonna I'm I'm gonna only focus on what I'm talking about like at w I guess at work, right? at work and then I don't know, maybe outside of that, church and run and my running friends. So that's Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: I think gosh. What do I talk about? I mean I talk about I'll talk about I'm really kind of my misfortunes. I'll talk about something funny that happened, you know? 'Cause that's really I mean that's kind Coach Blu: Mm. Blu: of what I'm what I do here on the podcast, right? Coach Blu: Right. Blu: but how long do I think Coach Blu: So l you talk a lot about life then, just like things you've noticed, stuff Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: that you you you've you've been privy to, just kinda like things that are like they're happening like i in real time, not like you Blu: Man, it's I'm boring. Coach Blu: know. No. No, d Josh, I I do I I I disagree with that because again, we can go you and I could go on a twelve hour car ride, you know, car road trip, and would listen to zero music. So I don't believe that at all. But it's kind of funny. I I I Blu: Hold on. But it is funny. Coach Blu: You're right. Blu: like what what I mean, I do generally I I try to keep up with at least the headlines or at least knowing what's going on. But I don't I don't really have very strong opinions about certain things. I don't Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: I don't feel like somebody's probably out there screaming at me like yes you do. you know, I I mean I talk a lot about I I think whatever's on my mind. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: I really, that's ADHD in a nutshell, right? whatever's on your mind, whatever you're processing. Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: you know, a lot of what's kind of going on right now, you know, with with family, with, you know, parents' health and and and everything, not that people necessarily want to hear that all the time, but Coach Blu: It's interesting because I I know it it's funny because I and I think because of social media and stuff, I'm a little bit more aware of of or or at least I'm I'm paying attention to the radar of life. But it was funny, I I had this this young kid that came in for therapy the other day and his parents were in here and he starts talking to me about Pokemon. I know zero about Pokemon, but I know enough to be able to like have these conversations and to kinda unlock the r yeah, the the the the Blu: Pick a two. Uh-huh. Coach Blu: like the the cards and stuff and And it was hilarious just me asking a few questions. I really did have a little bit of well, help me understand this. And this little dude, he just took off and he was like so excited. The next time he brought his his card collection in, I have no idea what I'm looking at. But like it I'm like, that's actually kind of interesting. The parents are like, Wow, you know, do you do you boogeyemon quite a bit? I'm like, not at all, you know. So I think I can crutch by with a lot of that kind of stuff. But yeah, is that question was asked to me. what do you bring to the water cooler? And and usually it's people bringing their stuff to me at the water cooler. but I'm telling ya, it's Blu: Yeah. That's interesting question. Hmm. Coach Blu: it's a it's an interesting one. And it got me thinking about the stuff that we're all kind of like, I don't know, privy to in our own ill little little Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: little little atmospheres of of of relationship. But yeah, it's think about that for a minute, 'cause there's such diversity out there and everyone's got such interesting stories and backgrounds. That it's a funny thing when you look at it like 'cause I can't sit here and talk to you about the the the miniseries Carrie 'cause I'm like, wow, this is actually pretty good. And or or Midnight Mass, which is again Blu: And I'm like, Yeah. Coach Blu: a deep, deep cut. I love this show. Blu: I could probably talk to you about midnight mass, but we're com we're talking about completely different things. Coach Blu: Yeah. Midnight Mass will blow your mind if you ever get a chance to watch it. It's really it's really done well. but yeah, I mean a and you know, being a therapist and stuff, you do get a very eclectic view on a lot of different things. from you know, what what makes people's hearts break all the way up to like what Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: you know, what makes their their their needle move when it comes to humor, all that stuff. Blu: Well and I think honestly I I think that's I think if I bring anything to the water cooler, I I'm the type of person that like I want to hear like what your interests are. I want to like I I will genuinely listen. Like kind of what you were talking about with with Pokemon. I'm like that with church, because you know, I teach primary kids and I have one kid in my class who is I mean I I don't know what's above obsessed. Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: But he is obsessed with Star Wars, right? And it it's it's hilarious because from day one in January when he when I ha started having him in class, it was talk about Star Wars. And he's very, very, very ADHD, Coach Blu: Mm. Blu: which his parents kind of warned me about, which I'm like, yeah. I'm like, that that's Coach Blu: Huh. Yeah. Blu: no problem. I I I I got this covered. but He knows everything about the Star Wars universe. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: And do I know everything? No, absolutely not. Like I know the basics. I know Grogu. the Mandalorian. Coach Blu: It's all you need. Blu: I and I don't know, you know, the the whole connection between this movie and that movie and da da da. But I I know enough that I can either carry on a conversation or I'll just listen to somebody, you know. rent and rave about it, whatever. Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: and so that's kind of what I've I've I I've learned, especially, you know, teaching youth at church. You just sometimes you just you just lean into into their interests, right? And you Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: you just ask the questions like, tell me more about this. And and so like he almost every week will come back and he'll tell me something new that he learned about Star Wars. And it's been funny because I've I've reframed that now and I'm like, okay, now let's take everything that you know about Star Wars and how does that how does that relate to the gospel? So I I made this I made this study I made Coach Blu: You're really let's bridge that. Yeah. Blu: this study guide for him of of like Scriptures and quotes that he can look up of about how Star Wars can relate to the gospel. And I'm like, yeah. And I'm like, Coach Blu: Good and evil, all that stuff. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Blu: okay, in a couple months before we we switch classes in December, I want you to teach us a lesson on how Star Wars relates to the gospel. And Coach Blu: What age do you teach? Blu: the the 10 and 11 year olds, so the oldest primary. So I'm Coach Blu: That's impressive. That's impressive. Blu: I'm pretty excited, especially because. I I don't think his parents really encourage him talking about Star Wars at church because he probably mm hmm Yeah, like Yeah. Coach Blu: Well, they they probably get it so much they're just like, dude. Yeah, yeah. Cause the hyper focused ADHD can really get you there. But that's that's cool because a kid that age, they have a hard time with the metaphors. And so the fact Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: that you're able to d to bridge that it's gonna make it make more sense and have deeper meaning, you know. So kudos, teach. That's amazing. Yeah. That's a good water cooler Blu: I yeah, I Coach Blu: talk right there, see? Blu: I and that's the thing, it's like I I I don't know, I my my favorite calling in in the church to be honest with you. it's yeah. Anyway, Coach Blu: That's funny. Blu: I'm I'm really excited to get my lesson here in a few weeks. So but yeah, Coach Blu: Brilliant. Well well done. Blu: no, it's just it yeah, I think that's kinda what I bring. I I just want I want to hear what people are interested in. I'd love to know what people are interested, who are listening now. like what yeah. I think that's a good question. That that should be like a I don't know, a a blue Coach Blu: A little Blu: pole. Coach Blu: Yeah, yeah, yeah. one of one of our ADHD rabbit holes. Because it it is interesting. Like it's funny getting into what people kind of do as hobbies and kind of what their interests are and you know, all all kinds of crap like that. But again, as a as a therapist and stuff, I get a lot of different angles. And you actually have some thoughts from Marianne about therapy that I I'd love to hear because we teased this and I'm like, wait a minute, Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: we're almost halfway through this podcast, and I really want to hear this because I'm always interested on how. other people's experiences are with counselors and therapists. So and and you Blu: Yeah, man. Coach Blu: let me preface this, you have full authority to be talking about this because Marianne's brought this to you and said, Blu: yes. No. Coach Blu: you know what, you should probably talk about this on on the podcast, which I think Marianne's a rock star. Blu: Well no, well and it it's funny because you know we're we're going through a lot, you know, and it's not just Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: it's not just my parents, you know, my parents' help is is horrible and and you know normal, I guess kind of family drama that comes with a big Greek Mormon family. Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: but with her family as well, right now. And I think we I don't think we talked much about this. we did on the episode that we lost. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: but our our nephew, our nephew Ben, who battled brain cancer two years ago, was diagnosed a month ago with leukemia. And so he Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: he's up at primaries and has been for the past month. and so it's been a lot to process for the whole family and especially Marianne because you know I mean there are there are kids, right? Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: we love them to death and and it's it's really it's been hard. And so she's she's recognized that, you know, I I I need some help. I need I need to go, you know, to therapy and and you know work out a lot of these these thoughts and and worries and and all of that. And so she went to a new therapist and I'm gonna probably get this wrong again because I owe it it's like Binance, right? Like I can never say it's not Coach Blu: Okay, ready, ready? I'll I'll help you. What you're talking about was called EMDR. Eye movement, desensitization Blu: Y Coach Blu: and reprocessing. It's what makes addict to athlete actually work, believe it or not. EMDR. Blu: And it's not and it's not E DM. I know that. Coach Blu: It's not E D R, whatever that is. That's like a like I said, that's an alternative group in the late nineties. I don't know. Blu: I just Yeah, it's it's a music, a club music, I think. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: E E E D E D R D R. Okay. Coach Blu: E D R Eye Movement. Blu: I just need to think of like Doc like Doctor Emily, but put that backwards. See how my mind works? Like Coach Blu: No, you just need to think you need to think eye movement, desensitization and reprocessing, EMDR. Blu: No. It's not how my it's not how my brain works. Well Coach Blu: Might do some EMDR for you, brother. Yeah. Anywho. There you go. Blu: Dr. Emily backwards. Anyway. so so she started with the EMDR, right? she hasn't gotten to the whole thing. Kind of the her therapist was was kind of introducing her to it. and it it kind of some of the techniques that I've used in in the past, or I've I've had my therapist use, where it's like visualizing, you know, putting everything in a box, putting it on a shelf, being able to compartmentalize your feelings and worries and everything. Coach Blu: The container, yeah. Blu: The can't yeah, the container. so she was kind of starting with that a little bit. And her her therapist she was like, so what is a minor irritant that you know we could start with? And she's like Coach Blu: jeez. Blu: and Marianne's like in there I I I couldn't I couldn't think of anything. And she's like Coach Blu: I love Blu: so I said the first thing that came to my mind and that was, Well, my my husband talks to traffic. And I'm like, when she's telling me this, right? I'm like, okay. And she's like, well, Coach Blu: You're like, explain? Yeah. Blu: she's like, yeah, I told her I'm like, he doesn't really have like road rage, but he talks to traffic and and it it just it it bothers me because you know for whatever Coach Blu: I love it. Blu: reason, you know, AY's and and the thing is is yeah, I do like I talk to traffic. I I I would not say I that I have road rates. Coach Blu: Marianne might say you have road rage, but you don't, huh? Blu: Well, no, but the thing is it's like I'm not yelling. I I I literally like for me, I think it's part of the the just the way that I drive in making sure that I'm paying attention. Coach Blu: It's it's a it's a calming mechanism too. It's it's for sure. It's a self soothing mechanism Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: where you're yeah, I gotcha. Blu: I may I may say, all right, come on in, jackass, if you're gonna be this, this this bossy or if you're gonna try to force one. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: And I'll let people in. I don't I don't play that game of like, no, somebody is over here trying to get up all the way up here at the zipper merge, you know, and I've Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: been back here for you know, f for a quarter of a mile, like you don't deserve to be here. You know, I I don't play that game. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: you know, I I do loathe I I loathe with a passion left lane loafers. Coach Blu: my gosh. Yes. Yeah, okay. Blu: I like that it it just drives me crazy because I'm the type of driver I'm not I I feel like if we're gonna be listening to this later or Mary Coach Blu: Ooh, here we go. Blu: Ann's gonna be listening to this later, she'll probably be like, No, you're you totally are. I don't I'm not an aggressive driver. I'm I'm just a engaged driver, right? Like I'm Coach Blu: Hm. Blu: I don't I don't camp in just one lane. Like I will move, right? And Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: And I'll move around traffic. that's why left lane loafers, I'm like, this is a this is a passing lane, this is you know, Coach Blu: Hmm. Blu: which We're we're we're driving down to Vegas later today and I'm just gonna say yeah. Coach Blu: In hours you're you're ready to do this. And I'm telling you, nothing is more frustrating than going south on I fifteen with left lane loafing. I I'm telling ya. Like I I'm with ya. Mm-hmm. Blu: especially especially when you hit like past Payson, that Coach Blu: Yep. Blu: is it it is the worst. and Coach Blu: Yep. Blu: yeah. Well and then it it's funny because you can tell the ones there there are the drivers who will get over. And that's generally Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: from my understanding the law, the rule is Coach Blu: It is. Blu: that you can be in the left lane, but as soon as traffic comes, you move over, right? Coach Blu: It's not a travel lane. Yes. Thank you. Blu: No. But but you get drivers who think, Well, I'm you I'm going the speed limit. You need to go the speed limit, know? I'm Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: like, no, that's not how this works. Like, so you're Coach Blu: Exactly. Blu: you're you're not the traffic cop, right? You you don't get to regulate how fast people go. And you know, generally speaking, I maybe go five, maybe sometimes ten over, which I know you don't Normal you get pulled over for that. Unless you're passing Coach Blu: I did just two weeks ago three weeks ago. I was in I was in the great town of Vernal, Utah, and literally was maybe going seven miles over the speed limit, got pulled over. Nice li little little Blu: Having Coach Blu: ticket. Seven seven. And I'm like, dude, Blu: Where? In town? Coach Blu: yeah, just well, I'm not sure where the actual town of Vernal begins, but it was kind of like actually it was by Skinwalker Ranch dammit. It was right there by there. So I thought, this is probably a skinwalker trying to Steal my soul. and I'm telling you, Josh, like and it was funny 'cause I had two two teammates from addict to athlete, and I'm like, and it was one of them was with me like a year prior where I got pulled over again, almost in the same place. And I'm like, What is this? And I'm like, Steve, Blu: That's when you take him out of the car, you're like outta here. Get out of here. Coach Blu: I swear this is your fault, right? Blu: What's Steve? Coach Blu: Yeah, you know Steve. Steve, this is your fault. He's like it was like hand to heaven, man. I had nothing to do with this. but yeah, so Yeah, if you can go five, maybe, but seven or ten, you're in dangerous territory. Mm-hmm. Blu: Yeah. No, I look 'cause I have I have a cousin who is he's a what is he, a sheriff, state trooper sheriff or something like that. I totally probably put you down. No, no, no. His mom lives in Coach Blu: He doesn't work in the vernal area, does he? Okay, good, okay. I like him still. Go ahead. Blu: Vernal, but that's a whole other point. But yeah, like he he's told me like generally we don't pull people over. pretend over. But I think that's more so the interstate than anything. And Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: I I hate like stereotyping small town cops, but l I mean let's be honest. Like driving through Nephi is, you know, you Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. yeah. Blu: you never know what you're gonna get. Same with sometimes Beaver and and Fillmore. So Coach Blu: Yep. Yep. Blu: and Cedar City. Coach Blu: I fifteen. Yeah, you know, you're right. And Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: you travel down there so much you know exactly where the traps are. So mm-hmm. Blu: no, yeah, no, I exactly. And so anyway, it'll be interesting. Watch, I'm gonna get a ticket on my way to Vegas today. Like but hopefully it won't be. Coach Blu: Yeah. Yeah. But she's discussing hold but hold on. She's discussing this with her therapist as a minor Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: inconvenience as you're setting up this. And so what this is is it's to kind of rate the degree of disturbance and kind of how you process your like your your your your anxiety and whatnot. And so the minor disturbance is something that you kind of like baseline EMDR with. And so Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: she couldn't think of anything 'cause Mary Ann is a very chill woman. And so I think I can see how that might throw her for a little bit of a loop, like a minor. I always say I Blu: yeah. Coach Blu: always I always kind of give the this might sound kind of funny, but I kinda give them that's near because a lot of people have a hard time trying to be like, well, yeah, that's small on the Richter scale. So I'll say I'll say it was a small let's say a small inconvenience. You walk out and someone parked way too close to your car. So you gotta kinda squeeze in there. I'm like, on on the level of disturbance, one to ten, where does that kind of you know register? And so There there's a lot of people that have a hard time being able to choose something that's small because most people are pretty tolerant. And Mary Ann's a very tolerant Blu: hello. Coach Blu: woman. And so the fact that she brought this up is hilarious. Where did it go from there? Blu: Well it so it so yeah, so she she w basically went through the whole process with, okay, so how does this how does that make you feel? when you're in the car with him, when he you know, when he drives and and everything and and you know, and that's kinda where it w I mean that was kind of the end of our conversation as far as as everything, but like I I know that she's brought it up to me. with my driving because when I'm driving, especially if I'm driving up to my parents, because that's really for the majority of majority of our driving, because we live so close to everything here, Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: you know, it's about a half hour, 45 minute drive, you know, to my Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: parents. And so we're in the car a lot. You know, this road trip's gonna be a test of our relationship, I'm feeling now. Coach Blu: I love it, dude. It's my favorite. I love road trips. Yeah. Blu: But but no and I yeah, and I do too. I I'm looking forward to it 'cause it it's a much needed vacation, but the the last time actually well actually it was in Vernal, when we went to Vernal, she she actually told me, she's like okay, she's like I don't want you talking to traffic. I don't want you getting upset at the other drivers. But she's like, I want you to put go be in a mindset of just thinking about what they're like as a child of God, right? And I'm like, well, and I'm I'm not hating, I'm like not raging on these, on these drivers. And and so the whole trip, I just leaned into that. And so every time like somebody would either cut me off or be going too slow, I'd be like, come on, brother, let's move out of the way. Bless you. Bless you, child. Jesus loves you. Coach Blu: you're being facetious now. She's like, that's not helping. I love it, dude. I love it. Blu: Yeah. Which I which I may have to bring up again for this road trip to Vegas because we are actually going down there to see a Christian pop artist. We're going to a concert tomorrow. we're gonna go see Phil Wickham. I don't know if anybody is familiar with him, but Coach Blu: Do you know what's funny about that, Josh, too, is and I'm not saying this because I want you to feel guilty or anything, but I don't think I've ever driven as a passenger with you. You and I have done quite a few experiences and I'm always driving. And I think it works that way, to be quite honest, because I love to drive, if that makes sense. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: and I I think it gives you the opportunity to just like not focus. Does that make sense? Like I don't it just maybe Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: happens that way. It's not that I'm like, I need to be in control. It just kinda works that way. You know what I'm saying? I don't think I've ever been Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: a pat I've never you've never driven me anywhere. I'll I'll have to I'll have to sit s shotgun to you once and see if Marianne's thoughts are are valid or not, maybe. And I I'm probably gonna agree with her. She y they probably are. Blu: I well I I will say there no, I I can't say that before I go on a road trip with my wife. 'Cause being a passenger in in a in a car with my wife sometimes can be an adventure. I'll just say that. Coach Blu: Okay, I don't know if Mirtha's gonna hear that this either, but I'm with you. whenever Mirtha drives, it it's it's the funniest thing. Like she she just stays where she's at. And so she I don't think she's a left-lane loafer, but she just I'm always like, I gotta turn in three miles. I'm getting over. And if I have Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: to move around, not this woman. Like she will just I she just arrives. I'm not sure how she gets there, Josh, to be honest with you, right? Like the only Blu: Like Coach Blu: The only driving complaint I have about Marissa is that if we are anywhere near empty, it begins a debate. She's like, You can make it. I'm like, I don't I we need to stop now. She's like, No, you can make it. When that light comes on, you have exactly thirty-two point two miles of fuel economic if you keep the and I'm like, Marissa, there's no way you know that. And, you know, she's like, I do. And sh and I think she believes she does, and she might, but like this woman will go tell we're talking less than fumes. It's not even vapor at that point before she'll get gas and I'm like I I'm decomposing. I I can't my mind can't operate that way. Blu: I'm I'm guil I'm guilty of that. Like Mary Ann and I are Coach Blu: Do you do that? Blu: Mary Ann and I are are swapped on that. Right. No, like I literally there have been two times in my life where I have coasted into the gas station because I went on empty and like I was out of gas. Right. Coach Blu: But never never you've been s Murs has never been stranded. I have no idea how. Blu: never been I've never yeah I've never been stranded I know I yeah no I know you have twenty you have twenty miles when that light comes on and so I know Coach Blu: I don't Blu: I know exactly when and it drives Mary Ann crazy because for Mary Ann if the if the gas if the gas is even like remotely less than half a tank it's like time to fill up which generally is probably a good rule of thumb. Coach Blu: In this economy? Absolutely. But Blu: But at the same time, I'm also I also play that game of well, the gas went down two cents the other day. I'm sure it's gonna go down another two cents tomorrow. So I might as well just wait to gas up tomorrow, and then usually it goes up six cents, or whatever. But Coach Blu: Exactly. Blu: I don't know. Yeah. My but I will say my my only irritant, my mild inconvenience. of of my wife's driving and she she knows this because I voiced this even yesterday. She almost comes to a complete stop at roundabout. Coach Blu: I I okay. Blu: Like I'm like honey, I'm like honey especially if there isn't like I I I understand yielding to traffic, right? But Coach Blu: Mm. Blu: you don't have to come to almost a complete stop. Like you Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: just need to generally know where they're going. Granted, Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: not a lot of people use their blinker when they're exiting around Coach Blu: Which I didn't know you were supposed to do that until my son, Camden, who just turned sixteen if in May. I I Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: I had no idea that you were supposed to do that. I had no idea. Mm-hmm. Blu: Yeah. Yeah. Like you don't need to you don't need to turn it on when you're going into the roundabout because there's only one direction to go. But yeah, Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: when you're leaving it you need to. So Coach Blu: How do you do that? That's too much. The centrifugal force of your turn and then you have to grab your blinker. man, I don't know if I could do this, man. There's that's too many movements. I'm just like, see you later, suck us, I'm outta here. But you're supposed to, right? Blu: Yeah, I know you're yeah, you're supposed to. But yeah, like yesterday we were taking there's a couple of roundabouts up here on the hundred and fourth 'cause we were going Coach Blu: What are your thoughts on the roundabout? So many people get pissed about the roundabouts. I'm like, I would much rather have that than a freaking stop sign. No one knows how to do stop signs. I'd rather do the roundabout. What do you think? Blu: Yeah. Well I will I will say I I don't mind Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: i as long as people know how to use them, which a lot of people don't, especially if you have like a two lane roundabout, that confuses too many people. Coach Blu: two lane roundabouts are a nightmare, but they're so dang self explanatory, I thought. Like, no, Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: w they happened after you and I and everybody else pretty much under the it's listening to this graduated school and had their license in hand. None of us were like sat down at some like, you know, government retreat to say this is how you Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: do the roundabout. We figured it out. Why is it so hard? Blu: well, yeah. I I I think sometimes it's some of the older drivers who aren't used to it as much, especially when they add to they've added a lot of to the newer neighborhoods out here in like daybreak in South Jordan. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: They actually did get rid of a whole bunch of roundabouts over on a hundred and fourteenth. which Coach Blu: Did it go back to the four way? Blu: yeah, more of the yeah, because it was It was just causing too much confusion and and problems. Coach Blu: Hmm. Have you ever watched National Hampoons European Vacation where Chevy Chase gets stuck in the roundabout? You look, kids, Big Ben. Like, okay, Blu: Yes. Coach Blu: that roundabout seems a little nuts, because that's like 20 flipping lanes, right? Like I get that. Like, Blu: Plus you're on the other side of the road. Coach Blu: yeah. And so, like, I'm sure you've ran into a few of these when you were in Europe and stuff. Is it is it different from that perspective? Is it like, you know, I mean, obviously they created the dang thing. And so Blu: Yeah. well I I've never been to England, so I've i and pretty much everywhere else in Europe is you know, you're you're driving like we do here in America. But Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: the roundabouts are more intense for sure. and granted Coach Blu: Gotcha. Gotcha. Blu: I wasn't driving, so thank goodness. But but yeah. No, but yeah, like my like and I told Marianne, Coach Blu: Nice man. Blu: I'm like, you don't have to come to a complete stop. Because my biggest worry especially Coach Blu: Uh-huh. Blu: here in Utah is people behind me, right? Because if you come to a complete Coach Blu: i well yeah. Blu: stop, they're not necessarily paying attention to you and getting rear ended. i i it it's a higher risk if you come to a complete stop, especially when you don't necessarily need to. I hope I hope my wife Coach Blu: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So let that be a lesson to you. Stop stop talking to traffic. That's what she's saying. You're making your wife go to therapy, man. Good grief. There you go. Blu: We'll stop stopping at roundabouts then, all right. we're still t we're still trying to find something to fight about, if if I'm being completely honest. Coach Blu: That that means that means it's going well. That means it's going well because the same passion that you have that get you to argue with your wife and your husband now and then is the same passion that you have when when you're loving on So it it's the same. Well, listen, we better start Blu: Yeah. Well, I will I will say Coach Blu: wrapping this up. I've got another podcast I gotta jump into, but we definitely need to give the that that invitation and code out for what's happening to us in April of twenty twenty seven. Blu: Yes. So so w first question here before we do that, Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: did you get permission to go do the Liberty Park run? Coach Blu: I did. I did, but I have heartburn. So I'll probably just go register day of to see. if i i Okay, I I was gonna say I was gonna bandit the Blu: Just register. Just go just go register. Coach Blu: thing, but I'm not. I'm gonna pay for it. So yes, I will be I I have been given the blessing to do it. Yes. Blu: Okay. Go sign up right now. KP, if you haven't signed up, go sign up right now. I'm I'm kind of excited. I hope that the that the wizard shows up for at least part of Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: the the run. but but that's not what I have a code for, right? Coach Blu: No. And Blu: Salt Lake City Marathon happening April twenty-fourth, twenty twenty-seven. Come join us. We're gonna do the half marathon. there's the marathon, the half, the 10k, the 5k, the kids race. come join us. If you use my code Josh27, you get fifteen percent off on any of those race distances.
