Coach Blu: But I I I am excited that it's Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: not me this time. It's all you, buddy. Blu: I know. I this is driving me crazy. Like there is a hundred and fifty three gigabytes of space that is just being taken from it calculating. And I otherwise I I this wouldn't be an issue. Coach Blu: Nice. Nice. Technical difficulties. The computer is not running fast enough to for this awesome riverside platform. But you you've somehow crutched yourself into communication. So that's a good sign, brother. Well done. Blu: Yeah, I don't know what I'm doing. see? I just turned off the the camera. Coach Blu: Yeah. See? No camera. Yeah. Back and forth. It could go any direction. you know what I'm saying? Like I I Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: s I say just ride the pony as long as we can, you know, give give our listeners, Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: including Rick, the best show that we can while we have ya. Blu: I feel like I feel like since I'm doing this on my phone, like I should take you actually I don't know if my wife would actually like me to take you on a tour of the house 'cause it's Coach Blu: Ha ha Blu: seven AM right now, almost seven thirty actually, because we've been tink I've been tinkering with this for over an hour. I know. But actually Coach Blu: I've been here since six thirty. Yeah. Just catching up on all my social media, TikToking and stuff. So you got lots to talk about today. But we we didn't have a show last week, even though we recorded one and that didn't work. So here we are, trying to crutch through the next one. be careful where Blu: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: you're going. You never know. Early morning shenanigans. Blu: No Well, yeah, it's the cat that I have to worry about. Don't worry, I'm here. I am still here. Coach Blu: If he watched Josh get attacked by his cats. Blu: that'll trip me. Coach Blu: This is very intriguing. moving about the the house. It's it's still very dark in your home. The Blu: Easily. Coach Blu: sun hasn't reached you yet. Blu: There you go. How's this is this a little bit more mood inducing? Coach Blu: I would say it depends on what mood you're aiming for. If you're Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: you know, if you're going for you know not spaghetti josh, but horizontal blinds, Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: yeah, for sure. Blu: Yep. we're ready. We're ready for the podcast. This is Walt. Coach Blu: Walt. That's the first time I've seen Walt. Heck yeah. Right Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: on, man. Did you see that video I sent you of the new cat species they found somewhere in the jungle of some foreign country? A new species. Blu: No. Coach Blu: I sent you a video about a new species they found. I don't think it's a domestic, but man, it is Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: a muscly little feline, and I thought Blu: Yes. Coach Blu: you should add that to the family. Blu: I don't know if Walt would be a match for him. I don't know. He has no like life biting skills whatsoever. Coach Blu: You ever see the test to see if your cat or your dog is up to par with life by holding them in front of you and walking towards the wall? And if they put their arms out to stop themselves, like then that means that they're intelligent. If they let you crush them against the wall without bracing themselves, it means that they're maybe not going to survive. You know, they're not the survival of the fittest, they'd probably lose. You ever you ever see that little challenge? Blu: No, but Walt would not survive. Coach Blu: Ha ha. Blu: Roy Roy Wood. But yeah, Walt mm mm. Coach Blu: Nice man. Yeah. I did that with both my dogs and both of them smashed their faces up against the wall as they as I walk slowly to approach. Like neither of them put their legs out to to brace themselves. I thought, well, that's pretty much how the family operates. So no worries. Well, Josh, we Blu: man. Coach Blu: got so much to talk about, brother. Like so much. I before Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: during my my hour of of alone time before you jumped on here, I didn't realize Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: that Lagoon that the the other the the amusement park here in Utah, knocked down the Jet Star 3, which was probably just before a lawsuit came out because of how like deadly that that ride has become. And I Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: apparently they're getting some kind of new intuit ride where it's like a race car based thing, but it's got a smooth track. It's a roller coaster thing. And it looks like if you've ever seen the Hot Wheels track, it looks like one of those things. And boy are people excited. You know, and it looks like it's gonna be a little bit longer than Puff the Magic Dragon ride. But, you know, I'm thinking there's not a lot of thrills and spills here, but and it looks like it's only going to be able to hold maybe ten people at a time. And I'm not sure how many cars are gonna be able to run on this thing. So brace yourself for another like like six day wait to get into the thing. I think Lagoon has a problem and it and it's they build these amazing coasters, but they're Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: They're like miniature versions of things. And so lines are decades long. I haven't been Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: to Lagoon this year to see the or even last year to see that new ride they put in. But I've heard that like sometimes like we're talking epic like wait times, much like what you would for Peter Pan and Disneyland. And I'm not sure that's worth the investment. What do you think? Blu: Well, if it's as exciting as Peter Pan is no. Like, Coach Blu: Ha ha. Blu: I'm sorry, I know I'm gonna get hate for this, but I really like I loathe the Peter Pan right. Because why am I waiting in line for like forty five minutes to an hour? for 30 seconds of a ride, right? Like Coach Blu: it's quick. Yeah. Yeah. Blu: the it the math doesn't work. Because Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: it's like how are you continuously going and Coach Blu: Mm. Blu: there's an hour 45 minute wait. Right? anyway, but that that's that's a story for another day. But like yeah with Lagoon, I yeah, I is this a part of your your passport or season pass or your ticket that you get? Or is this like Coach Blu: Hmm. Blu: one of those things like the sky coaster where it's extra, you know, twenty bucks or whatever to ride email? Coach Blu: No, it looks like a legit coaster that you get with your passport or your ticket. Yeah. So it doesn't look like it's gonna be one of those extra bonus things. It's just like Blu: That's right. Coach Blu: a speedway. Which I think I hate those like those extra things. It's like, look at that ride. But it's Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: like, that ride's an extra thirty five dollars and then a a six hour wait and you come back and certain I I don't like that. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: Like that seems to take out the magic, don't you think? Blu: Yeah, no, it does. And 'cause I mean gosh, like we would go to lagoons for steak lagoon day, right? So there was no way that we were gonna spend extra money on you know, on a ride that was fifteen, thirty bucks more. So Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: I mean, we we barely convinced my parents to get KFC KFC chicken, so yeah, we're we're definitely not doing a sky coaster. But Coach Blu: Well, I do think it's interesting. They keep on like adding stuff to it, which is great. I think it's awesome. But like, yeah, a lot of they seem I mean, obviously they're they keep things in house and so there's a lot of no no name brand stuff. It's kinda like the off brand like attractions, which is fine. I think that's that's great. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: but it seems like they're still on the micro scale. Like that the bat ride there where you're kinda that's the dumbest thing that's ever been placed in an amusement park. It's like Again, thirty seconds long, takes you an hour and a half to get up there. And Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: not a lot of thrills and spills. Just kind of like a well, all right, there's Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: a way to kill time. Does I mean you know I'm saying? Like I'm not trying to be a grump, but like six flags it is not. Blu: No. No, well, I don't know. I have problems with six flags, but you know, when it comes to amusement parts actually, I think the worst one, at least that I've been to in the past ten years, is SeaWorld. Like it's have you been to SeaWorld in the past ten years? Okay, San Diego or Orlando? Okay. Coach Blu: Mm hmm. Yeah. Yes. Yes we have. Yes. San Diego. Yeah. Depressing. Blu: Like I went two years ago and it's it's not so much I mean I I okay, like animals aside, right? Like I I I understand, I get it. Like I grew up loving killer whales. Like I pretty much idolized shamu, you know. I'm pretty sure that at some point in my life I wanted to be shamu. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: you know, and Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: I I loved it. SeaWorld as as a kid for me was almost as magical as Disneyland was. Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: I loved it. And because there was an emphasis more so on the animals. But now probably I would say even in the past 20, maybe maybe 30 years, it it's become more of a an amusement park with rides. You know, they've added Coach Blu: Yeah. That roller coaster thing, the water coaster thing. Uhhuh. Blu: I I actually I have yeah, the the Manta Ray or yeah, or whatever it is. I I I wanna say they have like three or four of Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: and so it just attracts a different crowd. And maybe it was the time of the year I went last. it was two years ago, it was October. it was Halloween. They do this whole Halloween kind of overlay, but it's not like Disney Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: Halloween, you know, where it's like Orange and yellow bunting, you know, down Main Street or you know Nightmare Before Christmas. it's like the gory stuff. Like you know, to get Coach Blu: no. Blu: to the like to get to the penguin encounter, like you have to go through this whole display of like severed heads, you know? So it's like, Coach Blu: What? Blu: yeah, like it it was yeah, Coach Blu: my gosh. Blu: like You know, going to SeaWorld and trying to like have a moment with my I know. Yeah, like trying to have a moment with my Coach Blu: You said this would be a happy place, Dad. Yeah, my gosh. Blu: my niece and nephews, you know, were like this was my childhood and they're like, Severed heads were part of your childhood. Coach Blu: Separed heads in the penguin display. bloody hell. That's funny. Blu: You know, so it's just it and it just it Coach Blu: They try hard. Blu: felt like kind of that six flags kind of crowd, right? because they have Coach Blu: Yeah. Yeah yeah. Blu: like a party afterwards and everything. And it just I don't know. It it it's just gone SeaWorld has just gone downhill. And maybe maybe Blackfish was the one that killed the magic of SeaWorld, I don't know. But Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: It it just was gross. Like like even Coach Blu: Weird. Blu: going to the penguin encounter, you know, you go through, you t they still have that little moving walkway where you you you go past the penguins and everything, but then it's all like the the glass is all dirty. there's a leak or something that that you know is causing something. Coach Blu: Needs attention. Blu: Yeah, it's like the tank probably shouldn't be leaking. And then Coach Blu: man. Blu: and then it it just and then it's just smells, right? It just smells like Coach Blu: An aquarium. Mm-hmm. Blu: Like an aquarium, like, you know, wet fish. So, you know, i I don't know. It just it was just sad. Like, I don't know, it wasn't my it it wasn't my sea world, you know, which Coach Blu: Yeah, I I've noticed this I've noticed this with with Halloween and it's funny that you say that because I know that Lagoon has fright mares, which I've never attended. I'm not Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: I'm not I'm not the get off my lawn guy yet. I still like the Halloween stuff. I I know you you you have thoughts and feelings. but Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: I'm not like I'm not the gory guy that likes that stuff either. So I know what you're talking about. So I don't like when you're in a a haunted attraction and people are working overtime to try and scare you like, you know, it I don't need Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: I don't need you I don't need Todd down the street tr putting on a mask trying to scare me. Like I just don't I don't like that. But I've noticed that there's other things, man. I was watching an an Instagram reel and it was showing I guess they have this whole lineup of Marvel characters now in zombie form. And so I was watching Captain America Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: try to make his way up to spectators, but he was a zombie and I'm thinking, Who who wants this? Who ordered this version universe? zombie like Iron Man and Zombie Hulk like this is a real thing. And I'm Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: like, where is this coming from? Is this is this what the doctor ordered? Like, how did this become a thing? You know what I'm saying? Like, do you do you, Blu: Mm. Coach Blu: Josh, would you want to go see Captain America as as a zombie? Be like, wow. Blu: I don't even want to go see Captain America alive or and fun yeah, Coach Blu: Alive and functioning. Yeah. Blu: and functioning. I no, like no, but that no, Coach Blu: Have you seen this? It's it's a real thing. Like they yeah. Blu: but that doesn't it doesn't surprise me. It's I mean, let's be honest, it's it it's corporate America trying to, you know, squeeze another dime, right? I mean they do Coach Blu: Squeeze another dime. man. Blu: it they do it with Christmas, they do it with Halloween, they do it with the Fourth of July. I mean, heck, they do it with Coach Blu: Easter. Yep. Blu: Easter. They do it even with Pride Month, which I think is is you know, Coach Blu: Zombie Pride Month. Blu: I have no pri I my gosh. You know, you know that there is somebody there that Coach Blu: It's coming. Yeah. Blu: is like, I'm writing that down. And like and and not that I have an issue with any of the holidays or Pride Month, but I have an issue of of corporate America exploiting all of those. Uh-huh. Coach Blu: Attacking it for for money. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Blu: and so anyway, I I don't know. I mean if there's if there's a dollar to be made, corporate America will find a way to make it, you know. Coach Blu: I think there's anything, it I th I think that Disney probably does it the best to the point that it's like they have an in based character already with you know Nightmare Before Christmas. They've got the Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: they've got all the villains and stuff. And so it makes sense that they could use that. But like to bring out like, you know, your Dollar Tree horror, you know, decor, so to speak, your horror decor and throw that stuff up, the severed Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: plastic heads and and and floating plastic hands in the rivers and stuff, that seems a little Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: bit like overboard. You know what I'm saying? Like there's no there's Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: no lore to it. There's no reason or purpose behind it. Like I think that the Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: again I've never been to the the Disney you know aspect, but I've seen videos and stuff and it looks like they it's done quite well because it fits the narrative of the theme. Yeah, to throw Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: c to throw clowns juggling chainsaws in lagoon. I'm like hard pass, buddy like I don't need that. Does that make sense? Like there's no theme to it. Like what the F are we doing? Blu: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. yeah. No. No. Well and why why do we have to yeah, why do we have to get gory? You know? I I mean I Coach Blu: Dude, I told you I watched that movie The Mummy. And it was, it was like, it wasn't the movie that Tom Cruise was in because I don't watch anything that guy does. And it wasn't just a monster movie, The Mummy. It was some other weird kind of offshoot. But it wasn't Blu: No. Coach Blu: scary, Josh. It was absolutely freaking disgusting. It was so gross. I've never I've never been a pearl-clutching, my gosh, offended kind of guy. But like it made me sick to watch. It was so gross. Like they were pulling Blu: I don't know what. Coach Blu: out fingernails and drinking. fluids that they shouldn't be drinking. And I'm like, what where did this become scary? Right? This isn't scary. This is disgusting. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: And I had to turn off. I'm like, I'm like, I've never been a prude, I'll be honest with you. But I couldn't do it because it was it was making me sick. Like, who sat through this? Does that make sense? Like the gore, you're Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: right. Like where's this coming from as a mechanism to to scare us? It doesn't work. Blu: Yeah. Yeah, no, I yeah, I I but and that's I mean that's one of the reasons, many reasons why I just I hate Halloween. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: you know, it's just it's it's turned so just demonic. And I mean I'll I'm fine with like the fall festival stuff of like pumpkins and you know, whatever. But yeah. And it's funny because You know, I even even like witches and ghosts and some of the monster stuff, I'm just like, nah, you know. Which is so funny with with especially with ghosts, you know, considering you know, I've I've gone ghost hunting. I've enjoyed ghost hunting in the past. will I go ghost hunting again in the future? I mean I I hate saying that I never will, but probably not. Like Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: I I and I I I I don't know if we've actually had this conversation about ghost hunting and like why I don't necessarily want to do it anymore. Coach Blu: Well, I went once with you and it didn't do anything. And I'm like, all right, this is this is weird. I felt weird. But tell me, like, what are your Blu: So Coach Blu: what are your thoughts? Blu: well i it it it's kind of interesting with this coming up because long story short, without going into the whole story, we've been kind of house shopping a little bit, Marianne Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: and I. not going far. really more than anything, we we want to stay in the same neighborhood. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: and so we've been looking at this new houses and our realtor I I I was I don't even know how it came up. I think Mary Ann brought up Bed Ghost. And I know that Coach Blu: Hmm. Mm. Blu: we've talked about Bed Ghost in the past. and how like I've had experiences with Bed Ghosts, and that's one of the one of the reasons why I now sleep in the same bed with Mary Ann, which Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: that's a whole other story for another day. But it just it opened that up to talking about ghost hunting. And it's it's funny because I mean, how do you bring that up in normal conversation, right? Like, Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: yeah, like I've ghost hunted in the past, like, you know, or or I like to ghost hunt, I've ghost hunted. you know, it it doesn't really come up naturally, you know, and especially it well, I mean, I hate name dropping. And and I rarely ever name drop my my brother because it just is awkward. yeah, my Coach Blu: Yeah. Well my brother says, Yeah, I gotcha. Blu: my but he's not so much into the ghost hunting now. He's off looking for Bigfoot and and aliens, you know. Coach Blu: And aliens. Blu: but but like I I like trying to have that conversation with my realtor at the same time I'm like, but I don't do it anymore, you know? And and I'm like, there's there's Coach Blu: Yeah, that's funny. Blu: some reasons why I don't do it anymore. Because one, my my belief is well one, my belief is yes, there are spirits, there are ghosts. It's not that I don't believe in spirits or ghosts. Like I know that they're there. I I I feel them, I felt them, I've had experiences that I can't deny and I won't deny. However Coach Blu: Yeah, for sure. Blu: When I am in those situations where we're ghost hunting, why are we there? We're there for entertainment, right? and some some people put on a better show than other people. I'll let you interpret that however you want. but when you realize that, you know, we're here for entertainment. Whatever is being communicated or if it's being communicated from the other side, who's to say that they are who they say they are? Right? We don't know that. Unless they're they're standing Coach Blu: Yeah. Yeah. Blu: right in front of us, right? And Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: you know, so like when I have gone ghost hunting, I and this has been the case for the past ten, fifteen years. I don't I don't necessarily sit there and and take I don't I I don't take anything face value of what is communicated to me or to somebody else. You know, like you walk into a room and you're like, yeah, there's this there's this lady, her name is Stephanie. She died from a paper cut, you know, at work back in nineteen eighty three, you know. Coach Blu: Which is weird because we had modern medicine back then and she still didn't quite make it. She's pissed, yeah. Blu: Yeah, she was the mother of right. Right. You know, like you know, she she had three kids and the and a cat, you know. I'm like, no, like that's Coach Blu: No, no, yeah. Blu: you know, I'm sorry, but like we're there to be entertained. Like we're not there Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: to to to prove that there's life after death. Like, you know, my religious my religious beliefs pr I mean are or or convictions, I know that there's life after death. So it's entertainment. It's entertainment value. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: and so I I you know this, you know, Stephanie girl who died from a paper cut is probably some like Rando who died like three years ago, you know, like Coach Blu: Rando. Blu: Like that that's just messing with you, you know? Like Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: don't and and and then definitely, and I think this is across the board with most ghost hunters, is you don't do anything that they tell you to do, right? Like I d I don't know. I I just I've seen so so much of that you know throughout my experience and through ghost hunting with my brother and other people Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: that I'm just like No, this is not my thing. I I will say at the same time, I I Coach Blu: Hmm. Blu: I've definitely learned how to feel and to recognize when there are others or spirits around, right? I've I've listened and I've learned how to feel that that that presence and heck I still get dead ghosts. I think I told you this a few weeks ago. I mean I had ghost cat. And so Coach Blu: Yeah, dude. See, that's a strange thing. It's a strange thing. Because I remember when I was probably first married to Marissa, we were watching T V a lot back then. And it was way Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: after they did all the music videos. And they had this show. I can't remember, it wasn't like Fear Fact or what that weird dude. It was something. Anyway. They'd strap these cameras on your heads and they'd put these these people into these like locations and then they would have them go out and do these missions like you gotta go sit here in this dark room, you know. They'd be like a an old abandoned the same asylum or something. And the psych the psychology in me and the therapist that I am now, I started to realize that there are they're not encountering any kind of like spiritual energy or ghostly energy. It's all 100% in their head. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: And you know, once you get it in your head that like something scary is going to happen, your brain will start making things happen that reflect that. So it's like, What's that noise? or what's this? Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: And it makes it worse, right? And it was kind of one of those Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: remember where they had that I can't remember the name of it. but they'd have like like a camera right there. So you had that weird looking face as you're running, you know. And y you know, I'm talking about and it was one of those things I'm like, this Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: is very interesting that this has become kind of the way that that ghost hunting is You know, looked at is it really is what your own brain will interpret. Someone will hear, like, did you hear that that disembodied voice? And someone else would be like, Well, that was my stomach, right? And it's like there's a million and one thing. So I'm not dumb Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: enough to to to believe that like every location that everyone goes to is absolutely paranormally like like just flooded. But I'm also Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: curious enough to believe that like Spirits are energy, ghosts are energy. Energy can't cease to exist. It has to go somewhere. Like we don't just Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: it's not just our body that turns into energy when we bury it and it grows a tree. It's there's energy in there. So I know that that stuff's very Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: real, but like, yeah, I'm I'm with you, brother. I'm like, that's a little bit maybe left to the interpretation of the person who's wanting to entertain Blu: well Coach Blu: another. Blu: and and I I think what really changed it for me especially is any of the paranormal shows on on T V I'm like don't don't believe at all. Like it's just BS. Coach Blu: Mm. Blu: my you know, it got to the point, you know, like my brother, you know, after he was in the industry for a while, like became very picky and and wanted more control, edit you know, editing control, on on certain aspects because you know when he first started out, with his first show, they would add so much post you know, post production that it wasn't even remotely close to to what they had experienced, you Coach Blu: Mm. Blu: know? Or they would reshoot scenes to get a a bigger reaction out of, you know, out out of the hosts. So you know, it's just I don't Coach Blu: Entertainment. Blu: know. Coach Blu: One hundred percent. Blu: It is. It is just one hundred percent entertainment and you know, go I I just Coach Blu: Which is why you saw Sever Heads going to the penguin exhibit. What the F. It's just entertainment. It's so Blu: Yeah. Welcome to the world of ADHD, right? Coach Blu: freaking weird, man. Well well, speaking of of which, I mean, this is now, you know, it it is fall, falls, Halloween, all this kind of stuff. Did you see all the videos of people posting like absolute traffic jams? We're talking like like Southern California, New York City style traffic jams coming out of every nook and cranny canyon. Because everyone's going there to get their Instagram photos of the leaves. I watched a guy like time his his exit from, I think it was, I can't remember where it was, man, one of the canyons up north. And it was, it Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: was literally like three hours, Josh, to get out of a canyon that literally should have taken him maybe 20 minutes tops, three hours. And I'm like, dude, what is going on? I'm watching people climb Mount Temponogas now, Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: some, some goofball. got up there and took pictures, posted them on Instagram. Now every Instagram person in the world want to be influencers climbing this thing. There it was like literally a train of people. And I'm thinking Instagramers are are they're killing our world, man. Like the Blu: Yeah, you just have to have to Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: three hours, Josh? And some dude took a pizza like like oven up to the top of Temp and was like cooking pizzas for people. And I'm like, that's the most BYU mindset I've ever seen in my life. To get a view. Like, come on, man. Like what's going Blu: Atheza Allen. Coach Blu: on with this attention seeking stuff? I mean, don't get me wrong, this podcast is an attention seeking thing. Obviously, that's why we do it. We entertain with me and you get to hang out for a minute, a few people, including Rick, but you know, Blu: I right. Coach Blu: that level where you are literally carrying a pizza oven to the top of Mount Temp to like, you know, for the person that really wants to do it as a challenge, it kind of takes away from the experience. Blu: It's Coach Blu: What do you think? Blu: it is yes. And it it it's interesting that you bring that up because that's that's kind of been on my my mind. Not necessarily the the I guess kind of the influencer thing. No, but Coach Blu: I don't wanna be the get off my lawn old guy, but like that's a little much. Blu: I've right. no and neither do I, but at the same time, like I do like Yeah, maybe maybe I'm just getting old and like I I I I just get so annoyed by so much of the attention seeking you know, attention yeah, the attention seeking like hobbies and reels, like I just absolutely loathe reels. Like I and the influencers and everything and and I don't know why, other than I've gotten sucked into into, you know, real loops where it's like, you know, two hours later you're like, where am I? What am I doing? You know, why do I smell like hot dogs? And Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: you know but like I I don't know, it's just it's it's just interesting because sometimes you just want sometimes you feel like you you just want to experience life, right? And especially when when you've got a lot going on and you have some heavy and when you have heavy stuff, like for me, not that I say not that I've never done this in the past where I've shared or maybe overshare things like, you know, on social media, you know, about like my mom's cancer. you know, struggles I've had either with weight loss or or whatnot. but like I don't know like Coach Blu: The difference, but Josh, the difference between that is you're showing the good and the bad, you're showing the heartbreak and and the happiness. Does that Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: make sense? You're not you're not typecasting yourself into Josh is always happy and nothing to see here but us but smiles and giggles, you know. And Blu: True. Coach Blu: so, like, yeah, that that kind of social media reporting and and influencing is kind of lame, right? Like, I don't like that. So I'm with you on that part. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: My thing is like, and don't get me wrong, I'm glad that people are out getting out and and and hiking and all that kind of stuff. but the one guy was critiquing how like I don't know, not not like I don't see dirty the trail was, but how chaotic it was and stuff and how almost like I deserve to be here and none of you peasants do. Like, what the crap, dude? Like t hiking Blu: No Coach Blu: timp is not easy. I don't care who you are. If if you're an influencer or if you're a a a mountaineer, like it's not easy. And so when I hear pe That kind of garbage. I'm like, dude, shut Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: up. Get over yourself. Like go take your picture. Like it's a cool accomplishment. Right on. Now go do King's Peak Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: and then go up and do Denali. And then maybe you'll focus Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: on on Everest. You know? Like I'm watching a guy, his name's Charlie Angle. I've had Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: him on the Addict Athlete podcast. And he's out there, you know, doing a lot of these summits and stuff right now, around around Everest and stuff. And didn't even make it to anywhere near base camp because it got so treacherous and stuff. And he was talking about like the day before, a couple of days ago, he was talking about how a couple of people got killed in an avalanche. And he's like, it's not worth it. He's like, we're gonna pack it up and go home now Blu: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: because the the the conditions aren't good. And and he's not doing that for an Instagram moment. He's doing that as a personal challenge to himself. And I thought that's that's very interesting. But then because I saw Charlie's thing, I started seeing a trillion and one other people's. videos from the same location around the same time and I'm like, holy cow, like people were no people are doing a lot of crazy stuff for the doing Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: it for the for the vine, doing it for the Instagram, doing it, you know, doing it for the Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: the TikTok. It's crazy. Crazy stuff, man. Blu: Yeah. No, it is. Well, and I I think kind of back to you kind of the point that I was making too, and maybe I'm just hyper aware of it more. and I'll I mean I'll get into the the depth and breadth of it. But like I like I have even issue and granted, I mean it's not my you know, it's not my journey necessarily, but like I've I've even noticed just How social media more so now than what 10, you know, 15 years ago when when I was sharing, you know, like my mom's, you know, cancer journey and things like that. just how different like grief is portrayed on social media now. Like, I don't know. I mean, again, like I'm not gonna I'm not telling anybody how they they should grieve, but At the same time, it's like I don't know. I it's just I don't know. It doesn't sit very well. And I guess part of that is you know, my my nephew was just recently diagnosed with leukemia. This is the same Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: one that we talked about this last week that never aired. Coach Blu: We tried. We tried. Yeah. Blu: We tried, we tried. and like I I think just It's just made me a little bit more aware, especially with the media that I've been consuming and seeing. And you know, and how awesome Instagram and social media and and that is in in listening to what you're talking about, you know, when you're on your phone. So I I do see more cancer reels. I do see more, you know, grief and things like that. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: it's just been interesting seeing that evolution. Again, not my jam necessarily, but it is interesting how that's evolved. and I I don't Coach Blu: Yeah. Well do you think we're we Blu: know. Coach Blu: do you think we're lucky because of that? And I and what I mean, you know, through that comment is back in the day you had twelve, sixteen, and maybe thirty-two chances to get the best picture. And you didn't know what you're getting until you got the you know, Blu: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: you got it back after a week of being away at Skaggs, you know, Photoshop. And when they did the hour like like photo, you're like, holy crap. You Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: and so now where not only can you take an unlimited amount. But you could also filter it and Photoshop it and everything else. Like, do you think it takes away from even the experience or the moment of what you're doing? Does that make sense? Like, you Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: know, I I dude, it was funny. Somebody I'll just I'm gonna send you this picture of me and I'll I'll send it, you can look at it after. But I was I was doing a presentation with addict to athlete at a at a thing, and I had one of those runner batons for the sprint, and and I gave it to this person. I said, hey. We're passing the baton on to you. It's kind of one of those metaphoric things, right? And she took a picture of me and and my friend Dr. Paul Jenkins and her. And she, dude, she AI'd the video the picture. Okay. But they look exactly the same. But when you zoom in on my face, I am whatever she did to this picture, I am a completely different human. And I'm like, what was the point of that? Like Ha what happened? I gotta show you. And I laugh because, dude, it freaked me out. Was this uncanny kind of like, those are my clothes? That's my hat. Whose freaking face is that? And I got thinking when she posts that, because she lives out of state, everyone's gonna think, What the hell's wrong with that guy? Look at that guy in the middle. Cause I'm all like, I gotta show you, dude. It's weird because it's close enough, but it's not. Blu: I have to see it. I have to see it. Coach Blu: I'll send it to you right now. But does that make sense? I'm like, what is this? Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: So I'm like Do you I think we had a better where the instant Polaroid picture, if your eyes are closed, Blu: Mm. Coach Blu: your eyes are closed. That's that's the real you. We don't do that Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: anymore, you know? Blu: No. Well in e and even more so in the past ten years, like with the reels and with the editing, like I I don't not that I necessarily want to see the grief or the suffering, but I feel like people hide behind you know those filters to Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: hide that aspect. which could could you know potentially h hinder their you know their their healing, right? Coach Blu: Hundred percent. Blu: and and so it it's just it's it's a very I again this is like the sociologist in me. This is the the the marketer in in me where like I I look at these different aspects and it's like okay what is this doing to like how is this reflecting upon society? And I I just I don't know, like I I want to see the raw. Like I and and I I have noticed that I do tend to gravitate towards those kind of s those kind of individuals and and social media profiles if I do follow them. because I want like I I wanna mourn with you. I want to grieve with you. I want, Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: you know, to hope and to pray for you, you know? Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: but I just I feel like you're you're doing such a disservice when it feels like like did did did this just turn into a campaign for clout? You know, like be you, like be real. I want I wanna know. Like I you know, anyway, I I again not so much a get off my wand type of thing, but just really Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: kind of this observation, probably from my raw feelings with everything going on with my nephew. And, you know, like I I like I've even seen some of the pressure that my my that my sister in law has kind of put on herself to Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: like she almost feels kind of obligated to give an update. you know about my nephew. and and granted, yes, I mean she's getting a lot of text and everything and so there's a lot to communicate. But I I'm like I'm I'm hoping that that is not, you know, just well I don't think it is just, you know, to make sure that social media is updated, you know, she's got so much more on her plate. But I think there is a pressure Coach Blu: Well, that's why, Josh. Blu: sometimes Coach Blu: Yeah, there is. But that's why when when I sent you that that message on Saturday after you came out and ran our our 5K in Toila, and I said, Why does this always happen to you? And I sent you the picture of you, and then I sent you the picture of the whole the whole picture and then of the sign. And and listeners, it's the funniest thing. Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: Like my daughter was taking pictures over in this one section. didn't read the sign that happened to be in everyone's, you know, background that said Blu: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: special needs child, like you know, in area. I don't know, in area. Blu: In area. Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: And it was it was the funniest thing because there's there's big old tall Josh right there underneath the sign. And I'm like, This only happens to Josh. Like this you know, it was so funny. Blu: Yep. No. No. Coach Blu: But that's the thing, right? Is like she was so devastated. She's like, do not I said, Are you kidding? Josh lives for this stuff. This is some funny stuff. He's not gonna be mad. He no, he's gonna be he's gonna laugh. Blu: I I actually I made it into a meme. I made it into a meme. Like I Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: that I sent to my family and and basically what it said is them. I'm waiting for God to give me a sign. Me, he already has. Coach Blu: Yes. See? And I'm like, Brooklyn, no one's gonna be mad. I'm like, it's the funniest thing. It's a real picture. You didn't know. Like that sign's there to Blu: No. Coach Blu: represent the kid, you know, for kids with coming in off the school bus. I said, but Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: but I said for Josh, he believe it or not, he lives for that stuff. She's like, she's like, I'll just I'll just AI it out. And I'm like, do not. Like that's you know what I'm saying? Like it's it was so good. Blu: No, no. I I think one thing one thing and kind of back to that though, like I think for me especially, because some people understand my humor, some don't, right? which I mean what gosh, it I mean that's pretty much everybody or anybody who has an attempt at humor, right? Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: you know, for me, Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: I I I do like I if I'm gonna joke about something, especially about like I well, I'm not making a joke about special needs because I feel like if I say that I'm like somebody will will s like take that slice sound bite and like choose it against me. but like coming from a background where I spent eight years in special ed, you know, I have a learning disability. Coach Blu: Me too. Yep. Blu: I have ADHD, you know, and you Coach Blu: As do I. Yep. Yep. Blu: know, going through college was was you know, was a task that you know, could only be compared to like Moses you know, leading the Israelites. Like, Coach Blu: Hear here. Blu: you know, it was you joke about it, but you do it in a way, and I and I feel like I do it in a way that people will understand if they're in a similar situation, that hey, you know, if he can overcome that, I I can overcome, you know, this or the a similar thing, right? Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: and you know I also try to use my humor to definitely lighten the mood. You know one of the things that my brother in law my my nephew Ben's father told me is that you know he he basically just said, you know, we're so appreciative to have you in the family because you have just this this way of of lightening a mood when things are kind of heavy, right? Coach Blu: Exactly. Blu: And which is probably the best compliment that I can I I can ever receive. because cancer sucks. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: And seeing a nephew basically I mean leading himself to near death to get rid of this, it's hard and it can be very depressing at times. And so, you know, being able to come in and and to help lighten that mood and to lift spirits. I'm like, I'll I'll yeah, like I I I would gladly I mean Coach Blu: gladly be there to do that. Yeah. To help. Yeah. Blu: and and it it's been fun, you know, like we even even my brother in law and I you know we've we've found ways to you know to have a laugh and to make to to help make Ben laugh. Well just really quick, 'cause I think this is just this has been so funny that even some of the nurses have kind of gotten in on a joke. But you know, Ben's sixteen. he's kind of dating age and everything. And so we we made his ID tower, I don't know what they call him, you know, the thing that follows him around everywhere, that Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: is hooked up to it. But we we made it into a girlfriend of his. And, you know Coach Blu: yeah. Blu: Her name you know, we made a face for her with like a paper plate and some yarn. Put it you know, and and we stuck it on that, you know, that tower and follows her follows them all around. And her name was Ivy, you know, because of Ivy. And Coach Blu: Ivy. Yeah. Brilliant. Blu: we just keep we just keep telling Ben, I'm like, Ben, you gotta he probably should break up with Ivy, she was, you know, very toxic. And we just Coach Blu: Dude, that's freaking rad. I love it. Blu: have, you know, just and then the I mean the the jokes just kind of create themselves but it's just it's it's you know it's just little things like that. I think that like even even somebody who may not have I guess necessarily my sense of humor, like don't be afraid to lighten the mood when things get dark, you know, in in life. because you know, I I you know, not to get too religious, but I feel like I feel like humor has has a a a divine quality to it that that can help in the healing process. So Coach Blu: Well yeah, they what's why they call it laughter being the best medicine. And I think that's that's absolutely Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: true. You know, and and that's why I thought it was cool that you guys all came out to the run and kind of, you know, ran ran, you know, for that that purpose and whatnot. And that and that that kind of stuff is great because you will that's one thing, Blu: plus. Yeah. Coach Blu: the social media parts is I've seen you've posted the sad stuff, you've posted the the happy stuff. And that's that's I think the realism Blu: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: that we're looking for. We're not looking for, you know, the the filtered Version of humanity. We're looking for the real Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: version. And I think that's cool. So if you're gonna go hike Tim, go for it. But do it because Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: you you know you want to see what it looks like from up there, that perspective shift. Not because Blu: Yeah. Coach Blu: you want, you know, the hearts and and thumbs up on Instagram and Facebook. That's that's not a reason. It it won't last. In fact, you'll you'll miss everything because you're looking for that one opportunity, that one shot. You'll miss everything in between, you Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: know. So Blu: Yeah, I mean there's yeah. Coach Blu: Crazy stuff, man. I'm with ya. Blu: I yeah. Yeah. Also when you're at a concert, like put the phone away. You don't need to record it. Coach Blu: Isn't that crazy? How many people watch a concert or something through the screen of their phone and not with their own eyes? Blu: Well, it it it like I understand taking snippets, right? Where Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: you want to remember the the mood, Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: you know, of of the concert or whatever. But like when you sit there and you're filming the whole thing, one, odds are if it's a big enough concert, they're gonna have a DVD, you know, or a download of the concert, right? Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: but then two, just go listen to the album if you're if you're there for the yeah, you're not. Coach Blu: You're never gonna watch it again. You're never gonna sit for two hours and watch your video. Yeah. Blu: It's it's it's just like people who film and or try to take pictures of fireworks, right? Like Coach Blu: It's one hundred percent the same thing. Mm-hmm. Blu: because if I could tell anybody I'm like one Nobody cares about your pictures of fireworks. Nobody. two, Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: they stop really bad. You know? Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: three, if you're gonna share a picture of fireworks, take a video of the fireworks and then t take a take a screenshot Coach Blu: Screenshot. Yeah. Blu: of of a good moment because I'm sorry, you're not gonna get a a really good picture unless it's the grand finale. Otherwise it just looks like a poof. You know? Coach Blu: Well that's what love about take about about sunsets and sunrises. Like you can kind of capture Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: the the gist of it, but it'll never compare to what you your your God given eyes are are looking at. You know what I'm saying? Like and I think that's a very Blu: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: unique thing that I'm glad that we haven't been able to to do that without filtering all that stuff because there's been some amazing sunsets Blu: Right. Coach Blu: and I'm like, dang, you know. But like you take a picture of it, you're like, meh, it it's okay. Blu: Well yeah. Well I and I will say there've only been about maybe two or three sunsets that I feel like the picture or the video captured it. Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: one was our Vegas run back in twenty twenty two. Coach Blu: Mm. Blu: that e like even when I go back to watch that video, like I feel Coach Blu: Giving me cold chills as you talking about it. Yeah. So funny. Such a weird thing. Blu: Yeah, no, same, same here because it's like it it those feelings just go right like back to that moment. And then Coach Blu: Seriously. Blu: and then the second one was last it was last was it last year or was it I think it was last year when we went to Elko and we were kind of chasing the sunset. And there was this part in the middle of rural Nevada where the sunset was just awesome. And and you know, I had Marianne take some some photos of it and she was able to capture the feeling of it. Coach Blu: Mm-hmm. Blu: But y other than that, like no, put the screen down, like life experience life, you know, experience the moment more than anything, right? Like Coach Blu: Was so crazy because it you you caught the song that played while you were crossing. I'm like, well, this will be perfect. Like, there's there's our song, like you know, Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: on Sat on Saturday. You you're right, Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: and I think it was the emotion attached to it, like that as as you're talking about it, I'm just thinking about like that whole thing. I mean, because we recorded the whole thing for for other purposes. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: but the cool thing about that was the newness of it. It was the first time you and I were doing that, it was We didn't know what to expect. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: It was overwhelmingly like like just cohesive. The whole thing, there was purpose behind Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: it, having just lost some some loved ones and good grief, man. Like yeah, and we've gone back since, but it's and it's been great, but never as good as, you know. And so I'm glad that we caught Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: that because a couple years later, you you that lady was like with you and KP was like, hey, I I've seen your video. Like, you know, and I Blu: That was insane. Coach Blu: To me, I'm thinking, and that's why she was there. She's like, I saw the video, I wanted to do this, here I am, and then what are the chances? So Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: that kind of stuff, that's real stuff. That's the real stuff, you know. Blu: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Coach Blu: that was a fun, that was a fun video. Like you're in there gambling Blu: I know. You know, and it it Coach Blu: and Eminem store. jeez. Blu: And here's here's the thing. Kind of going back to like, you know, like I always have that ambition of like doing videos and everything. But at the same time, it's like when I get to that point where I want to do or or work on a certain project, I'm like, No, I just I just wanna experience life. I just wanna like go and and do it. Like, why do I need to go film it? You know? Coach Blu: That video was epic though, let's be honest. I mean, we put effort into that sucker. I mean, it was it was a couple Blu: It was. Yeah. Coach Blu: days in the making. You know, you our our our our post our pre MM you know experience to put that in the video stuff made it look like you went to the MM store. You're changing your shirt. I mean, that whole thing was so fun, dude, just because it was like we were Blu: was Coach Blu: we were just screwing around and that's what was fun, man. That's what made it great. We should we should repost Blu: I know see the Coach Blu: that because it's so freaking stupid and funny. Blu: We should. I Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: mean I I know it's on our old our old channel, but I think it'd be fun. Even even Coach Blu: Yeah, we should all I think I have it too. Well you was funny. Blu: the revel even the big cottonwood Coach Blu: Yeah. Blu: race one with me chopping on my my sweet potato. Coach Blu: Your sweet potato. Yeah. And then you find in those pajamas. I was it was funny, man, because like we switched platforms from from Libson over to Riverside here to host now. So everything's over here now, which is great. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: but Marissa went in and captured all of Addict Athletes' numbers because unfortunately it resets numbers, right? Like so we have Blu: Uh-huh. Coach Blu: almost 300,000 downloads and things and stuff. And so she wanted to take pictures. And so she went over and got the top like 25. Podcasts that were the most, I guess, like popular, you know. Blu: Mm-hmm. Coach Blu: At number 20 is Vegas baby, me and you going to Vegas and talking about I'm like, that's so funny that people like that. It's because that was a commentary that we did Blu: Mm. Coach Blu: after. But yeah, man, that was a fun experience. We we put a lot into that. And and you're right. Like, I'm glad we cut we captured that. And there's some funny, I have so much footage of that flipping cottonwood like run. Right down to the very end where it started raining on us on September eleventh and I got sick because you were we were talking about I think beavers making custard or something. It was disgusting. And I'm like, We we can't end the video on that note. We'll have to find that stuff and repost it, man, because it's we don't want to get lost in the in the ethos. Blu: But you know what? We can end this episode on that note.
