Samuel Holcman: Thank you for tuning in to Real Talk. Be sure to join your host Sam Holcman again for another edition of our program. We'll have more Real Topics of discussion then. How do you sort out the so-called jargon from real-world practices that work? Do the members of your organization find some business or technology advice utterly confusing? Welcome to Real Talk with Sam Holcman. In this program, we set the record straight and in terms that business people and technology people can understand. Now, here is your host, Sam Holcman. Welcome to Real Talk with Sam Holcman. I'm Sam Holcman. Thanks for joining me in this particular broadcast. And the topic for this particular broadcast is, why the EACoE process visualization approach matters before AI. And there's some subtopics underneath that title. Stop automating processes that are broken. This is why AI is failing. Without process visualization and optimization, AI will not fix your process problem. What it'll actually do is expose them. So before you add AI, you need to rebuild, re-optimize, or optimize your processes. The real AI readiness problem is not technology. It is unoptimized or inefficient or broken processes. So today I want to talk to you about a topic that every CIO, every enterprise architect, every business architect, and every business leader should take seriously. Before you add AI to a process, make sure the process is worth automating, that it's been optimized well before you add AI. I know this sounds obvious, but too many organizations are skipping this step. They want to move fast. They want to show AI results. But if the underlying process is broken or not optimized, AI will not save it. It will just make the problem process move faster. This is why the EACoE process visualization approach within our enterprise architecture methodology is so important. EACoE gives you a practical way to see how work really happens across the enterprise. Not how the organization chart says it's happening. Not how the system documentation says it's happening. I mean how it actually is happening across departments, across handoffs, across data, across time. And that matters because enterprise processes are full of hidden friction. You have manual approvals. You have manual approvals. that no one has questioned in years. You have duplicate data entry. You have workarounds built around old systems. You have delays that everyone accepts because that's just how it works. Well, if AI is coming into that environment, the first job is not automation. The first job is rework. So why is this different from traditional framework thinking? Now, let's be clear. For those of you that embrace TOGAF, it has uses. But when the question is, what process should AI support, replace, or improve, EACAOE process visualization is much more direct. It starts with the business process itself. It asks. What is happening? Why is it happening? Who is doing what? Where are the delays? What can be removed? What should never be automated? And where can AI actually add value? This is the kind of thinking organizations need now before AI. So let me give you some real concrete examples. Take customer onboarding. You may have sales, legal, compliance, IT and operations all touching the same process. If you visualize it properly, you'll often find re-keying, approval loops and unnecessary handoffs. Before AI gets involved, fix those issues. Let's take invoicing processing. If invoices are being manually checked against ERP data and passed around for exceptions, AI can help. but only after the workflow is simplified. How about taking employee onboarding? HR, IT, facility, security, and payroll all must work together. And if those steps are disconnected, the new hiring experience suffers. Process visualization exposes this quickly. What about claims processing, if that's what your organization does? This is a classic case where people want AI to help with triage or documentation extraction. Fine. But first, make sure the process itself is clear enough to support intelligent automation. So here's the real message. AI is not a substitute for process thinking. AI is an accelerator for whatever process you already have. If the process is smart, AI makes it stronger. If the process is messy, AI makes it messier. EACoE process visualization gives us the discipline to get the process right before we automate it. And in the AI era, this is not optional. This is best practice. So, what's the next step? please reach out to us at www.eacoe.org for a no-fee discussion on your requirements. It will be our pleasure to speak with you. This has been Real Talk with Sam Holcman. Thanks for listening. Until next time, think before you spend significant funds on AI.
