speaker-0: If you're referring to the famous fat bear week competition or just love looking at round fluffy animals. speaker-1: Why is there a raccoon running across my screen right now? speaker-0: It's a big bear. But I need I feel like I need inside. speaker-1: Mm-hmm. speaker-0: No yeah, Jimmy C don't look are you looking him up? Hello, welcome back. speaker-1: Welcome back to episode twenty-two of catching up with Liz and Evy. speaker-0: Yes, episode twenty-two, after two weeks gone, two is our number today. speaker-1: Two was our number and it's October twelfth. If you turn that around, wait that's not twenty two. speaker-0: twenty one but choose first fourth. speaker-1: Okay. speaker-0: You know what? Two is our number. How are you the heck are you? speaker-1: I'm doing pretty good. Especially since right before we hit record, you just told me that my hair is the cutest it's ever been. speaker-0: it really is. speaker-1: And I still feel that makes me feel very good. I had a very nice Monday. speaker-0: Actually. speaker-1: I feel like I only had a Sunday for a weekend because I worked Saturday. And so this Monday, I I obviously work today, but like The evening. I had a very slow evening. Like I stopped working and I just started reading. And I've kind of just been like reading and like doing laundry and cooked a little dinner, had a little wine, but just have been reading most of the last three hours. And it's really a nice little paste. speaker-0: That's lovely. It's a nice relaxing end to what can sometimes be a stressful day. What what are you reading? speaker-1: I'm so glad you asked. So I was gonna tell you anyway. it's called it's called The Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb. It's the first in the Farseer trilogy. Actually, I'm gonna look up what year this came out because assassins we should put assassin in speaker-0: How spelling B I'm looking it up too. I'm like, I don't know how to spell this. this is like it looks old. speaker-1: It is old. So it came out in nineteen ninety five. speaker-0: So it's thirty one years old. Yeah. speaker-1: it's my age, how appropriate speaker-0: How appropriate. speaker-1: for just a few like another month. But so I saw it on TikTok actually, and I saw it recommended as something like of an OG thing. And I was like Robin Hobb, okay, interesting. I was like, maybe it's more like a Brandon Sanderson, and then I realized Robin is a woman. speaker-0: Amazing. speaker-1: So she went right to the top of my T VR. And so I'm it's so good. I think what we see. I'm on page Yeah, so I was on page eighty this morning. I'm on page two hundred and twenty right now. speaker-0: wow. speaker-1: And it's really good. And it's already like, you know, it's a full trilogy, and I think there's another trilogy after that. And they're all out and they're all below. speaker-0: Okay. Give me a little a little synop. speaker-1: So the book begins I was just telling Connor this, it begins very like not abruptly, but like it just starts a story. And it kind of begins by the main character being like, so and so told me to start writing the histories, but I can't stop thinking about my first memory. And then he just begins, and we haven't stopped since he began. And it's essentially the story of this boy who is dropped off on the doorstep of like the keep of the prince or whatever, by his grandfather who's like, he's a bastard of the Prince Who Will Be King. I don't I can't take care of him anymore. He's your responsibility. Here you go. And he's kind of just dropped off into the royal family's care. But he gets shifted into the care of the the Prince Who Will Be King's like main guy and he's he takes care of him and it's just like the story of this boy and how he comes up at court, but he's just known as the bastard and he has no place at court and he just like learns he just does what he's told and he's told to do a lot of different types of things, mainly just like be a servant. But it's just the story of him and it's speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: the story of this kingdom, really, through the eyes of him. And he is of like like the book is titled, he becomes an assassin's apprentice. Because the king is either like, well we either kill this kid or we make him useful. So they're like making him useful. But the way it's written is like it's so OG, you know what I mean? Like it's so good. It it's so good. It's so beautifully written. and it like took me a second to get into it just because it's so descriptive in its writing. But once you get into the writing style, it just flows so gorgeously. It's And the story is so captivating. speaker-0: What's his name? speaker-1: that's a great question because that's a big point of contest in the book. He doesn't really have a name. Most people call him boy, or they call him Fitz, which in this kingdom I think just means bastard. And that's it. And he kind of is you know, people ask him his name and he doesn't reply and he says, Everyone calls me boy, because he doesn't know. And And that's that. But he also has no memory from the age that he was dropped off, which was like six. so he doesn't really know where he's from and he doesn't really know why, but he doesn't question it. He just kind of goes with it. It's very interesting. And currently he's like fourteen right now, and he's really starting to get into the politics of the kingdom just because of that's what he's been unknowingly trained to do in a way. and it's such a good I love the story is that like the main character thinks they know what's happening to them, but they kind of don't because they're too young, but the reader can see. It's really it's really interesting. I'm really enjoying it. And I will be devouring speaker-0: Yes. speaker-1: And another author that I feel like I will be telling you about, Ursula Kayla Quinn. Apparently What a name. Apparently won awards for her books in like the sixties and seventies and she is supposed to be like one of the most OG fantasy writers. Very respected writer. And like I I don't know why I've seen comparisons. Like she's like they people say that J. K. Rowling stole ideas from her. speaker-0: Interesting. speaker-1: I'm like, ooh, I think there's like a magical school book something. So I'm like I just feel like I found a little treasure trove of like hidden gems and it's invigorated. speaker-0: Good. Good man. Very interesting. I love that you're reading like fantasy, probably like original fantasy. speaker-1: Yeah, like a lot of stories are probably based on this. Yeah. And I what I just said to Connor too was that like I've obviously there's so many great books out right now that I love. Like I love what's some good fantasy that like Fourth Wing is what it is, but I've I loved that. And I'll I'll always love that book. speaker-0: What other speaker-1: like The Legend Born and like I'm sure there's better ones I'm not even thinking of. speaker-0: I you haven't read the Saturday Moss, but that one is huge. speaker-1: It's huge. But I read like some of it. But to that point, so much fantasy and fiction right now and I would say it's like almost all YA. And this is very YA. It's so exposition focused, right? Like they're like, here's who the character, here's why we're talking about this character, here's what they're gonna do, here's the story, how it's gonna unfold. This and this is just I'm sure just a stylistic thing, but like this author is it's She didn't write a book for a reader. She wrote a story. And like it's she's just like, if you would like to read this story, here you go. But this story isn't written for a reader. I mean, it is, but it's just like you either get on board with it or you don't. You know what I mean? Like that doesn't invite you really into the story so explicitly. speaker-0: Yeah, and there's no other sides. Yeah. speaker-1: And I just it was it's just very refreshing. Like This isn't trying to cater too much. And maybe it is, but not to me in this time. No, it's not. You know. speaker-0: Fascinating that like that's the the vibe you're getting for lack of better word, where like today's world everything is being sold to us, including the books we're reading. Yeah. And like you're like, No, this is just a story. That is like I love that that's like the vibe you're getting. It's just means that everything else is obviously being sold to us. speaker-1: Right, right. And it could be as simple as like it this obviously isn't being marketed to me, this is older. But that's definitely part of the appeal. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: Yeah. God. We are really just being so inundated with things being sold to us. speaker-0: Yeah we are. speaking of, I just finished Threshing Day fourth speaker-1: Yeah? speaker-0: wing novella. I will say same, I love these books. It's very short. There's a lot but like good short. It was very easy to like pick up put down because it's all different characters' point of views of their Thres. But what's fun about this, and this was what I really enjoyed after reading Onyx Storm. 'Cause like I finished Onyx Storm and I'm like, what even was that book? There was so much going on and I really wanted to like it. And I still think I will like it if I read the next book and then reread it. I feel like I'll like, speaker-1: I feel the same way. speaker-0: I think I'll really like it. But it's so fun because now on my TikTok feed, it's just constant like theories about the whole world. And I'm like, this is why like I remember this after Onyx Storm. It's the same with Thrushing Day. I was like, this is why. I like it. It's like a whole community. People are like loving it, picking things apart. And like part of it's like you can't read too much into it, but it is fun to like theorize and everything. speaker-1: You know what, you're so right. That is so much fun. And now I want to read it. speaker-0: It's just like yeah, it's a nice read and it's refreshing because it's not none of it is Violet's point of view. That is cool. It is kinda refreshing too. speaker-1: Do they like tell particular stories and then it ends right there or do they intersect and d do their stories all continue to the or is it just like really chapters and they don't really interact? speaker-0: And very individual chapters, there's like two that interact because they happen the same year and the same day. speaker-1: it's different years. It's not just Yeah. Okay, speaker-0: Yeah, yeah, yeah. speaker-1: so it's like an anthology of stories all of Threshing Days. That's really cool. Yeah. That reminds me of like Hogwarts of History or something. speaker-0: something. Kind of, yeah. It starts with Brennan's story, then Mira's story. then it has Zaiden. I don't know like the order, but Zaydan, Garrick, and like it has Dan's and then it has some of like Violet's squad mates, like Riddick, Rihanna, Sawyer And then it has the following year, like it has and it has Liam's, and then it has Sloane's and Aryx who like wear Violet. It's really cool. speaker-1: I like that. speaker-0: One of the theories, do you want to know one of the theories? Yes, please. So, spoiler if you haven't read. Well, it's not really a spoiler for Threshing Day at all, but spoiler for Onyx Storm. One of the theories is that Violet's second signet is like dream walking or People say like it's mind walking. And so I saw a theory today that Threshing Day is a collection of stories and it's not written by the scribes. Like in the beginning there's an ex excerpt about the professor of dragon kind is the one who like who's not a scribe who's a writer, but they're responsible for collecting information about the dragons and documenting it. So it's this book isn't written by a scribe. So one of the theories is that It's Violet recording them but via entering her friends' minds and like reliving the day through their minds. So it's like her practicing the second signet. Like that's an interesting theory. speaker-1: But why would that be a public Or it just like would be just like a fun tidbit revealed, maybe like epile. speaker-0: In a log or something. Yeah, exactly. Or if like the fourth book opens and it's like after and like maybe like some time has passed and she's figured out I I don't know. But I just I wasn't speaker-1: How did Onyx Storm end? Like, I remember there being a huge fight and then someone almost dying. speaker-0: this too. her mom died. yeah. Because Sloane like siphoned and used her mom's basically like life force to unward the stone so that they could or like speaker-1: But wasn't that the end of the other one? speaker-0: maybe you're right. speaker-1: think Onyx Storm like Zaidan goes fully art. speaker-0: Dark. No, yeah, he does. Yeah, speaker-1: my god. speaker-0: it goes full dark. Violet wakes up with no memory and she's married to him and he like left the kingdom to her. Up tearing. my god. Yeah. And then Imogen speaker-1: Never. speaker-0: is like, What have you done? 'Cause Imogen wiped her memories and Imogen's like, I did what you asked me to. speaker-1: shit. That's a good ending. I I really liked the ending. The endings are always bangers. Because the ending of the second one, speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: I remember just being like so incredibly so incredibly sad. Just like so distraught. speaker-0: Yes. The engines are bangers. speaker-1: The endings are bangers. speaker-0: Yeah. And someone turns Venon else that they know, who Zaydan calls like his brother. That's also online. speaker-1: yeah. speaker-0: Anyway, sorry if you don't read these books. Deep dive. That's but that's been on my mind 'cause that's all on my TikTok. speaker-1: nice. What else is on your TikTok feed? speaker-0: okay, so there's these two sisters. So adjust They have one account. It's Jenna and Connor. Okay. And A, they're hilarious. They just sit in front of the camera and like talk. But they had they very much are like they're they're very, very close to each other. Okay. Like they the one like almost went into depression when the older one left for college and then after college they lived together but like shared a room. And shared a bed, I'm pretty sure. Okay. Yeah, like they're very close. And then they like joke about speaker-1: Therapy, yeah. speaker-0: like one of their things is they read comments about people and just like laugh about they're like, Yeah, that's probably true. And they're like, Yeah, our family thinks we're nuts, but we don't care. That's speaker-1: Not speaker-0: like our parents think we messed up somehow. Anyway. They speaker-1: And like you guys are weirdly trauma bonded. What's going on? speaker-0: Exactly. But here's where it gets crazy. Is they're they're both moms, so like they started just making moments. Wait, what speaker-1: they don't live together in Sherry, but. speaker-0: no. This was like after college. No, no, now they're married. speaker-1: wow, they managed to get married. That's good. speaker-0: I know. That's like they talk about that too. speaker-1: gosh. speaker-0: No, they're married. They live like five minutes from each other or something like that. they're trying to convince their husbands to like move closer, but speaker-1: Closer than the five minutes. speaker-0: Exactly. speaker-1: but I get it. Why not live next door? speaker-0: Like they work together, they sell, they have a whatnot store and they sell so like they source together, they sell to yeah. I speaker-1: This could be us. What are we even? speaker-0: know. And that that's a literally I see them. I'm like, this is me and heavy in a different world. speaker-1: Upsetting. Upsetting, honestly. speaker-0: No, but so they're both moms. They're their f babies are so again they started their account, they're like talking about mom content. Their babies, I'm pretty sure, are a week apart. Like they got pregnant really at the same time. Their babies are like a week apart. Then it's like mom content. Then they get pregnant again. I think they're like three weeks apart, four weeks apart. So they just both had the babies one day apart. One day apart. They have the same doctor and everything. Of course. speaker-1: But they're not twins. speaker-0: No. Wow. speaker-1: How far apart are they in age? speaker-0: I think two years or a year and a half. Like they're close. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They also have a brother. speaker-1: Poor guy. speaker-0: I know. And they they laugh. They're like, Yeah, our poor brother. speaker-1: So speaker-0: But they're my favorite. I love them. Jenny funny. speaker-1: I can't wait to follow them. This is this is beautiful. speaker-0: Yeah. Wow. What else is on my So yeah, they just they both had their second babies. speaker-1: Do they have like the same gender children? Like speaker-0: They do. Yeah. Wow. The older sister I know. The older sister didn't find out the gender both times. Wow. Yeah. And they both have girls, two girls. Wow. And like again, they raise their kids together because they work together together every day. So their kids are like sis also their kids like look like the other one. Like they'll the kids look like the aunt. Yeah, I know. speaker-1: That's wild. That is wild. I mean that is a way to live life. There you go. speaker-0: Ugh. Yeah, they're fun. Love them. Shout out Janet Connor. speaker-1: Shout out Jenna and Connor. I like Connor for a girl. speaker-0: I know. I forget their daughter I think one of the daughters is Romy and the other one the new ones I think are like Cell or Syl Sylvie? Sylvie and Nell, maybe? Syl speaker-1: That's right. speaker-0: Really cute. I know. What's the other one? It's Romy and it's another gender like it's like more commonly a boy name, but could be gender neutral, which I love. Mm. Which I love as well. speaker-1: Ryan? speaker-0: I don't know. Yeah. Cute. Anyway, what's on your feed? What's coming up for you? speaker-1: My feed What's on my feed? speaker-0: My feed. and I always get a lot of manifest manifestation stuff. Do you like witchy things? speaker-1: I'm inviting more witchy things. I I would like to be more witchy. speaker-0: There's like full like full on like spells that people do. speaker-1: What are the spells? What are they for like warmth, coziness, and good vibes? Or like good fortune? speaker-0: So if you have someone like guests staying over and they've like overstayed their welcome, you want them to leave, you just flip a broom upside down in your house. Have okay, there you go. If you have something that's unwanted, so like maybe it's like a bill or someone's like phone number, like you don't want them to contact you, you put it in the freezer and freeze it out. Okay. So it g they cut they make sense. speaker-1: They do. That's what Rachel. speaker-0: There's things like yeah, like ritual, like full moon, new moon, things like that. We need to ritual different ways to manifest, yeah. We got speaker-1: Return to the pagan way. speaker-0: old. speaker-1: It's so old. Let's do what makes sense. speaker-0: It does make sense. Like the new year isn't till spring. speaker-1: Which makes a lot of fucking sense. Why would we not celebrate spring coming? That's when life comes back. speaker-0: How about you talk about while I I'm gonna go heat up food for my husband and move. Yeah. Why don't you talk about New Jersey? speaker-1: I will. speaker-0: And your whole trip. Sorry. That's a big a big topic. We saw each other. You wouldn't know it. But we knew. speaker-1: You would not know it. Catch up. speaker-0: We saw each other quite a bit, actually. speaker-1: I know. I do feel like it was a v very successful like friend trip where I got to see you at least three or four times. And all of our friends. Like New Jersey was incredible. I feel like it was very successful. you know, it's always so tough. Even on the longer trips, you're just like, you know, every second of every day needs to be spent trying to do things that I can't normally do. seeing people, et cetera. But I tried not to just like see people just to see people. I tried to see people who I could see more than once. because that always gives me sense. speaker-0: Friend of science. No, you're good. speaker-1: You do whatever you need to do. because if if I can see people more than once, then it feels like more substantial and I can be more relaxed while I'm hanging out with them. Otherwise it's very like okay, so like tell me your deepest, darkest feelings right now so that I can feel connected to you. speaker-0: Like catch me up on everything that we haven't been able to catch up on or like that I've gotten a brief overview of. Yeah. Exactly. speaker-1: Yeah. but like so since we had like weddings on both weekends, the in between of those sometimes was like, you know, it's very hard to feel like you're making the most out of every day because you speaker-0: Can't make the most effort out of everything. speaker-1: And I had to work and I hurt my back, so I was just like speaker-0: I forgot you hurt your back. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: But how is it? It's better? speaker-1: It's fun. It's very like it's like sore, but it's not like, you know, it really was just like a backs like it was just building and building and building, I think. Just tension that was building that finally just gave up. and the muscle relaxers worked pretty well. speaker-0: So speaker-1: And I still have some, so if it flares up again, I can use But that kinda set me back just a little bit. but it was so nice. It did like strike me because I was home in August and that was just f frankly, gorgeous, stunning, beautiful, even though it was like a whirlwind. It was the weather was incredible. And it made me have all of the dreams of having access to that. And then the weather in Jersey this time, I got all of it. I got the gray gloominess for an extended amount of time. And I got the beautiful weather. Yeah. So it was just like another moment of like, okay, right, this is the reality. And It really affected me. Like the the gray I was like shit, I'm just really not built for this as I was before. Like I know I could get back to it, but like I was like, my god, guys, I I got I was like, I need you guys to have sun. Like this without sun is crazy. speaker-0: I so I'm sure it affected I'm sure it affected you more because you have sons so much more than we do. But like 'cause it's such such a harsh difference. But yeah, I think the older I get, the more affected by speaker-1: I was very like, I'm so sad. And like if I don't you know, there was two days there where I probably like were speaker-0: Five sometimes. speaker-1: it totally was and I leaned into it for sure. wore lots of sweatpants and sweatshirts and it was beautiful. But especially with like the back pain and like no one home at the house, just me and Connor working in the quiet house. I was like I this is this is dark. Yeah, like hearing like the train whistle from my from my childhood bedroom. Like there's something super triggering about that train whistle. speaker-0: Sad. speaker-1: Yeah, it it is really sad. Even it's not even like my siblings would always say that, and I think I took it from them that like that train whistle something that like they did not like. So whenever I hear it I kinda think of that. But speaker-0: The one by that goes by my house is like very comforting. And now I hear it in Millington and I'm like, it's nice. speaker-1: That's so sweet actually. Yeah. speaker-0: I love that. speaker-1: One of my favorite parts of being home was moving Ben into Jersey City. Right. speaker-0: My Emmy's little brother and my little sister moved in together. speaker-1: Yeah. Just as we would have or did. speaker-0: You know. speaker-1: hey, we had our Jersey City. It was called Morristown. speaker-0: nearly as nice of an apartment. speaker-1: Seriously, that apartment is so nice. I was like, Ben, this is such an upgrade. Like, wow. he literally texted me today what he's making for dinner and it was so cute. speaker-0: what is he making? speaker-1: Just like beef and broccoli and rice and things. He's he's so speaker-0: But he's right. Is he learning? speaker-1: He's learning. He's learning. I think he was overwhelmed by how much change came all at once. and he was like, I don't like know how to I have to shop and cook and like do all this and I was like, Yep. You can do it. We all had to learn. and I and he's doing great. He's doing great. But yeah, the apartment is so cute and me and Liz got to have a cute little dinner with our siblings. It's very fun. speaker-0: It's very fun. Very sweet. How's his room coming along? speaker-1: That's a question, I should ask. I think I want I don't think he listens to this. Shame on him. But I really was like I was going through well, Connor hung and printed up our wedding photos for anniversary. speaker-0: Happy anniversary, by the way. speaker-1: Thank you so much. Five years, five years. My mom also like randomly surprised us with a wedding an anniversary gift. A giant speaker-0: She's speaker-1: does. And we were at we went to Ed's My new stepdad. speaker-0: Are you gonna call him that? Are you gonna say my mom's husband? What how do you say? speaker-1: I mean I probably will Yeah. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: I don't know if I will call him that. I'll just call driving speaker-0: Of course. speaker-1: him to strangers. I will definitely use stepdad probably it's just easy. speaker-0: Probably easier. Yeah, it is easier. Gets the point across so much faster. speaker-1: Yeah, if that's the point of this speaker-0: You know? speaker-1: conversation, then yeah. we went to his house for dinner and then all of a sudden there was a cake and an elaborately wrapped box and I was like, this is so cute, like who's this for? And it was for me and Cotter for our animal I know. So thoughtful. speaker-0: Really sweet. speaker-1: When's the last time my family baked me a cake and gave me a present? This is actually like so cute. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: I was very touched, and also I was like, We're in Ed's house. This is so weird. But also nice. 'Cause speaker-0: That's really nice. speaker-1: now I have a memory there that I like, so that's speaker-0: Nice. Your mom asked me for my address recently. Or actually I need to text her about if she has if she still wants to do some training. You totally should. speaker-1: but did you know year five is wood, that's the wooden anniversary, and so she got us a beautifully carved bowl. Or like really nice wedding date in the middle is it's very nice. speaker-0: It's really pretty that's really nice. Yeah. I didn't know it was wood. Neither did I. speaker-1: But I was told and I was presented with wood. speaker-0: You know what? Rachel and JP went our friends for their five year anniversary went to a place near Woodstock. JP. speaker-1: This this tracks. This is very JP. speaker-0: Yeah. Shout out JP. Now I gotta keep up with that tradition. I know the first one is paper. I think this one of them might be leather. Ooh. King speaker-1: huh. Wait, also if you're looking for some steamy TV show, randomly I put on a show on Hulu, which I was like Hulu did this Hulu? Reasonable Doubt. It's like a law drama. It's great. But it was like out of nowhere, like very, very sexy. speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: I was like, what the f Fuck. Literally, my jaw, I don't even remember what. I was probably a little high, but I was cooking and I just had it on in the background. Just put it on. Yeah, yeah. And my jaw was like, Connor was like on a call and I was like I c this cannot just be on in my house. I was like, what what's going on? And I was like like I c it was so like this it was very speaker-0: on like the big screen are speaker-1: It was Jane speaker-0: it's right in front of the window. Not that like people can really see in because it's like total side of the house. But like as you're driving by if somebody glances, you could say. But like it y it has to be a whatever. But anytime something like a steamy scene comes on, I'm like Huh speaker-1: I get that. I'm glad mine doesn't face out 'cause I would totally think that. I mean, I'm not normally watching very much very steamy things. You know what I mean? That's more that comes up that comes up in my my reading. speaker-0: Or like it in shows that you expect it to. Like off campus you are expecting it. speaker-1: Yes, that's true. That's a good point. Or just yeah, but those are like romances. Like this wasn't a romance. This was a h it was on Hulu. Like Hulu to me is not like steamy, whatever. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: It was it was very funny to me. I laughed because I was like, This is very silly. speaker-0: this is very side note, not nearly as steamy. This is like a cutesy little like high school show, but crew girl crew girl on Netflix. I watched it. Yeah. I watched it. It's sweet. It's a nice like launching show. It's like as cheesy as you think it will be. Well speaker-1: It like kinda was confusing because it wasn't yeah, it wasn't what I thought it would be at all. Yeah. and it kinda just like kept you moving. speaker-0: Exactly. speaker-1: Which I w I didn't mind. It was nice. Like I didn't speaker-0: It wasn't it wasn't annoying. It wasn't. speaker-1: Yeah. speaker-0: So it's a nice spot. speaker-1: Made me wonder what it was about ultimately because there was no real like speaker-0: There are a lot of speaker-1: There was way too many it like I wasn't sure what they wanted us to do speaker-0: Ha ha. speaker-1: but speaker-0: feel like sometimes shows are maybe like that on purpose because they want to create online talk about like this storyline or this person or no, I want them to be with this person. I think that's like I don't know if that's real or not or valid, but I I think that's speaker-1: Yeah. I mean I wonder I wonder like how much of that like you how much of that w used to be the case and how much more it is now, like comparing it. Like I think I saw some clip or something from God knows what. actually I think it was Lily Reinhardt on Owen Thiel's podcast. I don't know if you know any of those names. Do you know Owen Thiel? speaker-0: No, but I know Lily Reinhardt. speaker-1: Yeah. she was saying like she was on Riverdale and Riverdale has its own like whole cult following thing. Right. and she was like, if TikTok was around when Riverdale was big and Rivald Rivaldale ooh she was like, if Riverdale was ever bigger than it was, she thinks she was like, I don't think our cast could have handled it, but we were able to handle the f notoriety that we had. And she was like, It's really insane right now, like the amount like of commentary that has like it's so high right now. Like TikTok's commentary is is wild. And like there's so much fun in that. But like I can only imagine as the people that we're commenting on, like it must be it must feel tenfold what it used to be. And yeah, I do think a lot of like you can get the general feeling of a reaction to a show, a reaction to somet anything. if you go into TikTok. So like I wonder if the writers are in there being like, Okay, we see what you want. And like we s we and maybe they changed that shit. I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised. speaker-0: Yeah, I also would not be surprised. I feel like that's happened in some shows. speaker-1: I agree. I feel like I mean they're like focus groups. That's what TikTok is. speaker-0: Yes. No, that's a way to put it, but it's so true. do you watch Dancing with the Stars? Okay. So it's alive. It's happening currently. Very much TikTok is like talks about it after every episode, dissects it, da da da da. It's so interesting to watch people's breakdowns on TikTok. Mm-hmm. And then like the way it affects the show or like the pros or it's just like speaker-1: Give me an example. speaker-0: so interesting. Well, how does it it? It's like funny. Jenna and Val are like the big shots. Everyone loves Jenna and Val. But I feel like this season not everyone's loving them as much. So like they got two of like the best stars, people with dance experience, Jen and Duan and Harry Shum Jr. Mm-hmm. So people are like, really, like, we're just gonna like give it them to them again. Like let's showcase some other people. When they announce the tour, it's Jenna and Val on the big poster. And like again, that's not their fault, but it's just like because they've been so loved in the past. So it feels like the producers are like latching on to that. Like, yes, everyone loves Janet and Val. So even on like dances, they're like the front and center usually like the camera's on them a little bit more. And like it's like subtle, but you notice it. Which is interesting. Isn't that speaker-1: Isn't it normal though to have like people who are like the leaders? speaker-0: It's just because they're popular on TikTok that like they're not the leaders. Like yeah, they've won. speaker-1: Okay, but they're not like the most respected dancers. speaker-0: They're all amazing dancers. speaker-1: Yeah. But like you know, like Max and Val were like super popular. speaker-0: But like Mark Ballis is amazing. Yeah. Such a good dancer. Yeah. And choreographer. And won I think the most mirable trophies are like Ty just one. Okay I think it's just I think speaker-1: Okay, so it's not merit. I think I merit. speaker-0: Yeah, I think it's just like a popularity thing. And again, like a lot of the like Jenna and Val have made it to the finals more times than like some of the other current pros on there. But then you could argue argue like is it them being favored with like better dancers or whatever. There's so many arguments with it. something that's funny. So do you know Coach Jackie J on TikTok? speaker-1: yes, it sounds familiar. speaker-0: Okay. speaker-1: Yes, and she and Derek Huff have that fake beat. speaker-0: This like fake beef and it is hilarious. And like Derek on live like she the whole beef started with like the camera will be an Alfonso and Derek will like peek his head into frame and she's like, Derek, stop doing this in her views. speaker-1: I do love her I do watch her speaker-0: Yeah, she's hilarious. She speaker-1: He is awesome. speaker-0: and ever like Derek has literally like he's commented on her videos now. people are comparing comparing them to Who are they from Glace? Sylvester. speaker-1: Two Sylvester and speaker-0: Yes. Comparing them to th those two, which is kind of hilarious. speaker-1: That's awesome. speaker-0: And like like Derek's comments are actually so funny. my god. Like she made a video about reaching a million followers and he was like one million and one. And speaker-1: That's very cute. speaker-0: like she'll like call him out and he's like, It's because I love you. Or like whatever. He's like, It's all for you. But like literally on live TV, he's looking into the camera and like pointing. And it's like Everyone who's in on the beef knows exactly what's for. Like that's hilarious. speaker-1: That actually like warms my heart. That's actually so sweet. speaker-0: I know. I know. It's amazing. Yeah. I'm trying to think like what else is so in ch like people really don't like Julianne Huff's outfits. So like she's commented on it is like people are commenting on my outfits. She's like, I'm just weird at like weird things and I'm like, that's valid. But then like she is. Yeah. Ezra w on the Mirar care night like, And I really like your dress tonight, Julianne, like made sure to like say it on camera. Like Like it's just like it's so funny how it's it's very integrated and you see it reflected. speaker-1: I think it's that genre of show too, because that genre is so like it's all about pop culture. It's all about the mainstream, what everyone's chatting about, right? Like that's what it's about. That that's why that's who gets on dancing with the stars, right? No. speaker-0: Not really. They pull people No, like Giada DiLorentes, she's not online at all right now. She was on. They pull people like right like Andy Richter was on last season. Is it now? speaker-1: Yeah, but his job is pot cool. Andy Richter? speaker-0: I'm like he he does a podcast now, but for Dancing with the Stars. Robert Irwin was on there. Like they pull people from all over the place. Who was the speaker-1: Yeah, but he's best known. Andy Richter is Conan O'Brien's like sidekick. Like h and that's his entire career. I just mean like most people who go on there have like a career in this. You know what I mean? They're they're all speaker-0: Really? I don't think so. speaker-1: They're not nobody. speaker-0: no no no, they're not nobody's, but they they I feel like they like they pull NFL stars or athletes. They have Olympia. For sure. They have like different categories of people that they pull from. For sure, for sure. And I feel like it's pretty evenly spread out. speaker-1: No, but what I mean is like it makes total sense that they're that I and I've I've watched enough episodes over like my lifetime to know that like that's always been the case. They're always they're always shouting out like the real world. speaker-0: World. speaker-1: Like they're always talking to the audience. You know what I mean? Like the voice was always doing that. speaker-0: Yeah, 'cause it's live. Yeah. speaker-1: I just think I just think that's part of the speaker-0: I think but who they pull as stars doesn't necessarily have to do with pop culture. Okay. Like Miranda Blake, I don't know what who played her in The Parent Trap that was on last year. Like what That was kinda random. If they like they have like speaker-1: Sure, they're super random. speaker-0: young and involved, yeah. I mean they just have different pools. speaker-1: Mean even current. Like Miranda Blake though is like her th her like she was impersonated on TikTok all the time. Her sounds are used all the time. It's almost like a deep cut, you know what I mean? speaker-0: Yeah, true. True. But like Giada DiLorentis. Who is that? Food Network. Okay. speaker-1: Yeah, I don't know anyone food networky. But like to me that's still like that's still in line with what I'm saying because she's food networked. That's that's entertainment. Like a lot of this is just like they're pulling from so many different strands of entertainment. speaker-0: Well yeah. I'm just saying it's not all current. Okay. speaker-1: No, I know. I'm not saying it is speaker-0: I thought you were. speaker-1: Mm mm mm. No no no no no. speaker-0: Okay. Yeah. They have a they have a couple different pools of places that they pull people from and yeah, it's all like entertainment based. Because like no huge star is gonna go on it. Although Kim Kardashian was on it. What? Back in the day. Yeah. It's hilarious. speaker-1: She back in the day. I do remember that. speaker-0: Tatiana Ali, she's on it. She was a kid in Fresh Prince of Belair. She was the little sister. That's that's a random bowl. But I'll fall into that. Yeah. speaker-1: do love the randomness of it because it's like it's a reminder. speaker-0: Exactly. And then you get to the bad speaker-1: Back into the main. speaker-0: people. Yeah. Tyler Cameron, he hasn't been like he's not known for like Gen Z doesn't really know him. Which is hilarious to me. Anyway. It's just funny to see how like TikTok has influenced The live speaker-1: The actual episodes. That speaker-0: Yeah. Exactly. speaker-1: is crazy. I mean TikTok's influence is wild. It speaker-0: It is wild. speaker-1: will be studied. I wonder what the next social media app will be speaker-0: B. speaker-1: that like takes over our minds. I'm just I just made me curious. I was like, I wonder what the next like thing will all be obsessed with. Because TikTok really surprised little old me because it wasn't cool. And then all of a sudden it was very cool. speaker-0: It was COVID that really turned it around. That's speaker-1: Yeah, that's true. speaker-0: what did it, I think. Yeah. remember Vine? That was like hot. speaker-1: Yeah, I remember doing making a vine in your parents' yard with like a golf ball or like a ping pong ball or something. And speaker-0: A soccer ball. speaker-1: yeah, okay. speaker-0: A soccer ball. Except it wasn't actually Vine, it was an Instagram, but like they had the Vine edit that you could do, which is stupid, but Yeah, that is true. speaker-1: yeah Now it's coming back to me. speaker-0: Yeah. No, Vine was great. I think some of like like Loki some of the funniest humor. speaker-1: yeah. To this day some of the most watched TikToks are just Vine Comball. speaker-0: Five compilations. I know. So good. They are yeah. I don't know what the next one will be, but we'll be sure to be on it. speaker-1: I feel like Vine was like easy to stay on top of of what was like trending and like in everyone's vernacular. speaker-0: It wasn't as like fast or as like it didn't change as often as speaker-1: And they like stayed for a long time. Like whatever made you laugh and like I'm even trying to think of one. I don't even know. But they would like there's still to this day, like someone would say it and be like, my god, that vine. speaker-0: Yeah, no, exactly. I think that's because it didn't like yeah. Like it didn't change as quickly. Things would last longer. Or like trends would be Longer. remember yik yak or yak? speaker-1: Yak yak. my god. speaker-0: That was a crazy one. speaker-1: That was a crazy one. That was a college campus app where you speaker-0: Like basically like Twitter but anonymous for your college campus. speaker-1: It was not. speaker-0: Craziness. It was crazy. If you're in this professor's blank class, cough at twelve five. speaker-1: wow. speaker-0: What a time. What a time. We didn't go to college together, isn't that crazy? We speaker-1: Why didn't we speaker-0: lived together while we attended college. We sure did. Pretty similar. speaker-1: Remember all nighters? There's like speaker-0: Mm. speaker-1: I really should go download all my files from my old computers because I mean they're terrible. speaker-0: I would love to go through those. speaker-1: There's like a poem I wrote at like three AM from an all nighter. I think it's like just like about having a cold and just like how terrible it is when you have a cold. speaker-0: Old. speaker-1: But I remember it and I think it was like speaker-0: Everything is more dramatic in the middle of the night. Let alone having a cold. Like you would be able to write a whole poem about it. Yeah. speaker-1: Yeah. I like let me see if I can find it. 'Cause I do have it all on my Google Drive. speaker-0: I have some wacky things, like randomly wacky things on my Google Drive. speaker-1: I think I'm gonna find it. I feel like I'm getting speaker-0: G. speaker-1: that's kinda scary. speaker-0: You're probably unwrestling a lot of things. speaker-1: I do this sometimes, late at night. speaker-0: Here. speaker-1: Hmm. Field hockey basics. boy. speaker-0: you're getting we're getting speaker-1: And you tell me if you want me to stop looking for this. I'm like so curious. Uncle Rich, aww. Untitled documents. What it's like to start drinking coffee after twenty four years? speaker-0: Years. See, like that's a good thing to note though. Yeah. speaker-1: Let's see. the last thing Zach edited. That's very sweet. speaker-0: National Park Service named this massive bear honky chonk beardonkadonk and over thing about it. speaker-1: What? speaker-0: This might go send her a picture. speaker-1: Mm. speaker-0: Honk chonk, bear donk donk. I do love that animals go viral now. speaker-1: Do they? What makes an animal go viral? speaker-0: Did you not see Jimothy? Who's Jimothy? speaker-1: But then. speaker-0: Get out. I want your live reaction to Jimothy. If you're referring to the this is Google. If you're referring to the famous Fat Bear Week competition or just love looking at round fluffy animals, I can help you. speaker-1: Why is there a raccoon running across my screen right now? speaker-0: Yeah, it's a big bear. But I need I feel like I need him this speaker-1: These are red c speaker-0: side. No yeah, Jimmy C don't look are you looking him up? yeah. speaker-1: Yeah, I thought I was supposed you wanted my live reaction here. I'm sorry. speaker-0: Do you see him? speaker-1: I see him on my screen. Is he on your is he on our screen? speaker-0: Him no but just just look at him. speaker-1: All right, I'm looking at him. speaker-0: For watch him run. I've ignored this one particular news story, but I can't. speaker-1: Who is Jimothy? speaker-0: Who is Jimothy the raccoon? This isn't him. This is a carving of a raccoon. And this is not him either. This is a taxidermy raccoon holding a liquor bottle purchased by Erling Holland, a Norwegian soccer player. What is Jimothy? speaker-1: I am, I'm watching it. speaker-0: my god. Who is Jimothy? And who is trying next? Did you see the video of him or not? It doesn't seem like I saw speaker-1: Okay, okay, okay, okay. speaker-0: He has like a spine I know. He has like a spine syndrome. speaker-1: my god. Wait, I feel like you've showed me this. speaker-0: Short spine. speaker-1: Why is there so much commentary on him? Wow. He looks like like a Tasmanian devil or sort not that I know what a Tasmanian devil really looks like. speaker-0: I think the first video I saw was of him on someone's like ring camera and I was like, That looks like a raccoon but it doesn't. speaker-1: Looks definitely deformed. So like it's just one raccoon. We're all focused on the one. speaker-0: yeah, just the one. Okay. Okay, I'm sending you a picture of of honky chonk or donk donk. boy. speaker-1: So I've read too much of my own shit. my god. Honky chonk bear donk donk. He's got a This is the best thing that has ever happened with my tax dollars. More of this, please. Yes. You said this to me. Wait, why is he so large? speaker-0: I don't know. speaker-1: Is he being abused and fed too much? That's w speaker-0: He's in the wild. There's multiple pictures of him if you Google him. That's just the funniest one. He's like sitting in the river, his head is and it's a picture of the back of him and his head is like slightly turned like he's about to look back. But he is a large angie, look how big this bear is. speaker-1: So large. speaker-0: Yeah. And she goes, Damn. speaker-1: So hey ho. speaker-0: the what what there was a hippo, like a something hippo that was really popular? Modang. speaker-1: yeah yeah yeah. speaker-0: Push the monkey. speaker-1: Push the monkey. speaker-0: Did you find it yet? speaker-1: No. And I probably won't. Sad. I'll f I'll find it someday and I'll send it to you. I just remember it being like really melodramatic, obviously. But like kind of fun to read in that way. I don't know. speaker-0: Well, I feel like that's how you feel. It it's so you should take man cold. That's kind of how you feel when you have a beautiful speaker-1: Ooh, maybe it's in lyrics. Ooh, there's something in a folder called lyrics and it's called sweetheart. speaker-0: This is the difference between you and me. You like write things down way more. speaker-1: It well I go years in between doing that, but I did just write like four pages in my journal today. that's nice. I haven't But my last journal entry was two months ago. So speaker-0: Like pretty normal. speaker-1: I would agree. It's definitely normal for me. I mean, remember when I wrote you a song? I have a whole folder here called The Lizzie Project. But it doesn't have the song in it. What the fuck? speaker-0: I vaguely remember a song. speaker-1: You'd vaguely remember the song. my god, it's probably so good. Hang up. Let me see. speaker-0: No, I'm tempted to look through. I just feel like bit. I do. I do I have a note titled Evy on my phone. it's a speaker-1: No we didn't even go into my notes apps. Hold on. speaker-0: You know what my first note is? Tell me. Aunt Debbie and her address because that's who we would mail our rent check to. speaker-1: my god, Adoribs. speaker-0: So here are my goals. No, I don't want to read them. Thoughts. There's a peaceful spot slash moment slash thought in every day. speaker-1: Some different writings on this one. I remember this story. my god. There's so much speaker-0: Wait, where's in here? Shredding for the wedding. Wow, that is intense. speaker-1: Freddie for the wedding? speaker-0: Look at this note. How did I do that? What are they? speaker-1: Those numbers? speaker-0: Yeah, they're my weight squat week one. One five by ten, one fifteen by ten, one thirty-five by six, one forty five by five, one fifty-five by five, one eighty by one I guess I spawned every day. speaker-1: a document in my Evia at Connor Gaelic called Being Sexualized from a Young Age. speaker-0: Were you? speaker-1: I mean, I guess I felt like I was at some point. I don't know. Enough to write it down. I mean, yeah. I don't know. I don't know. Yeah. It wasn't. Let us not Okay. speaker-0: I'm curious what's in that note though. I have a note I made last fall. Yeah. And I think we watched most of them. But movies for fall. Do you wanna hear them? Now that speaker-1: yes please. speaker-0: Cheaper by the Dozen. Perfect opening. Like montage. When Harry met Sally, obviously, it's an obvious one. speaker-1: Mm-hmm. speaker-0: Father of the Bride 2, so I was pregnant when I wrote this list. So I'll to watch that. Whoa. Harry Potter. Didn't specify, but like that's a fall vibe. Bohemian Rhapsody. A Star Is Born. And then Freaky Friday slash Freakier Friday. 'Cause that's when it came out and I was like, that's gonna remind me of being like in middle school in a good way. speaker-1: Dude, I found it. I have a cold. speaker-0: let's do it. It can be better than like my fall movie flip, but No it can't. speaker-1: No, the craziest thing is that it's on Connor's like server. Why would I I speaker-0: wrote this on her town and I was like, I relate to this so hard. speaker-1: But I wrote this in Morristown, which means we must have been dating, which is crazy to me. Okay. I have a cold. Okay, I'm gonna stop reading this as soon as it's so cringy. Okay. I have I I haven't pre-read this. I have a cold, period. And I'm sitting at my desk typing into a machine feelings that I know I can't train No I can't read this. Please. speaker-0: No no, stop reading ahead. speaker-1: Can't Okay, okay, okay. Do it. no, this is so bad. speaker-0: Evelyn speaker-1: I cannot read so bad. Why I need to know why this is good. It's not speaker-0: You spent all of this time trying to find it. speaker-1: I have to be able to read it. Okay. this is so sad. I have a cold. And I'm sitting at my desk typing into a machine feelings that I know I can't translate. speaker-0: Yeah. speaker-1: I try to display my feelings, convey the complexity, portray the diversity between my head and my heart, but I keep getting distracted by the typos on the screen. I keep looking in the mirror and blaming the face I see for my unproductivity. I'm distracted speaker-0: Go ahead. speaker-1: What is this? Okay. I must distract speaker-0: Goodbye. speaker-1: I'm distracted by heartbreak and dreading the night, knowing the feelings that fight through the dark. speaker-0: I knew I knew it was gonna be about your breakup. As you said I speaker-1: It was definitely about my brain because that's why I remember it. Because it's not about having a cold and that's why I'm such a good writer, Liz. speaker-0: Yeah, there you go. See, that's why I had to finish it and that's why I had to re cloud speaker-1: I have a cold, but I'm distracted by heartbreak and dreading the night. The day is no better, but I pretend it's okay because I've lived with it for this long. It should have been long gone away. I'm watching a video on a boy who's depressed and I'm sad thinking he must not have good friends. But I know he must because I do, and I'm sad. I'm sad when I'm surrounded by by beauty. But I find beauty in stress. What? I see a picture of a boy with cancer and I cry. I cry because no one's found an answer and why was he born if only just to die and we're all going to die and speaker-0: Of course. speaker-1: god. Told you it's bad. speaker-0: That's done shot. speaker-1: Try to make the best of yet another day. speaker-0: I liked it up until like I liked and then you started reading again and speaker-1: I want to be paid in peaceful days. What the fuck? speaker-0: No, I I wanna be paid in peaceful days. That makes speaker-1: No one gets paid without trying, and the ones that I love are suffering greater than me. My sorrow breeds f my god. speaker-0: This is long. No, it is. As soon as as soon as you said I wrote a poem at three AM Yeah. Or pulling an all nighter and I wrote a poem and then you said it's not having a cold, I like, That's be it's when you were secluded in that room by yourself for like a month. speaker-1: So I talk a lot about being in pain and a lot about speaker-0: why speaker-1: Wow, this is it rough. And then it ends with saying but peep People are hurting and I wanted to heal, but now I'm one of them and all I do is feel snaps. But people don't have to ask what's wrong because I tell them I have a cold. speaker-0: Mm. speaker-1: So there's like three good lines in here. speaker-0: That makes sense. speaker-1: But anyway, that is so funny. But that is definitely why it sits in my head because this is so terrible. But also like, yeah, I was just like going through a breakup and it wouldn't st and yeah, that's what I was doing at three AM in Morristown when I had a breakup, was writing about having a cold. God, I was woof. I mean, you know what? I wrote that for me and it must have done something for me. speaker-0: And what stuck with you? speaker-1: It stuck with I don't relate to her and that's good. speaker-0: That's yeah, that's probably good. It helped you heal in some way. It's a beautiful thing. Well good job. speaker-1: It definitely did. It definitely did. It's scary to me that like I have so much of that in these Google Drives and speaker-0: It's fun to read through. Yeah. Alright. I'm hungry. Okay. I'm I'm done now. Done speaker-1: Mm-hmm. speaker-0: now. Can I be done? speaker-1: well thank you for listening. speaker-0: We'll have a fun topic next week. speaker-1: I mean, what's more fun than breakups and really really fat bears? speaker-0: Honky Ba honky chonk. speaker-1: Chonky Chonk Bear Donk Kadong. Chonk got the pedong paddong. speaker-0: Alright, well thank you for listening, everybody. speaker-1: You see why it took us a while to get back. Yes. Thanks for listening, guys. We love you. We'll see you next week. speaker-0: See you next week, that's a promise.
