Carianne: Hello everyone and welcome to Beyond Swallower, a Coronation Street podcast. Swallow Fridays are back, the superhero edition. The wives are wifing hard and the police are policing harder. Lisa backed Sarah into a corner in a professional capacity, of course, and Betsy came home. If you can remember as far back as two weeks ago, you will know that Elle is sunning herself on a Cornish beach. Although you will hear her dulcet tones in the interview, but I'm delighted to welcome Joe to the pod. Formerly of the wedding corridor and on the cobble specials. Hi Joe How are you? Good, good, good. Jo: Hello, thank you for having I'm okay, thank you. apologies to your regular listeners then in advance. Okay, so that they'll have Timu L this week. Carianne: I don't think you need to apologise in the in the least. because without you, wouldn't have one a podcast at all. So because I I I can't talk to myself. I mean I try, I do, but we are we are Jo: Mm. I do, I just don't record it. Carianne: we are however gonna in introduce a new segment called Elle Says, which we will drop in intermittently because although she's on holiday. Police officer in her just will not go off duty. And she keeps texting me and telling me all the things that are wrong with all the police stuff. So yeah, that that will drop in intermittently. gosh, we had a lot of swallow. Did we not have a lot of swallower this last couple of weeks? It was Jo: yes, yes. It's it's swallow heavy. Carianne: it swallow heavy, which it is lovely. but it does mean we have a lot to talk about. so I was I was thinking about this and I was thinking. what happened two weeks ago and I'm like, my gosh, was that only two weeks ago? It seems like they've packed a a lot in But if we can remember back as far as Monday, the twentieth of July, we had this beautiful hospital scene where Carla walks in bringing cast offs from Underworld. What did we think about all of that? Jo: One, that is probably how I dress normally anyway, as long as I'm around the house. So that's my default session. Yeah. Carianne: Yeah, fair enough. Big big fan of that. Yep. Jo: and as I recall last time I did this you criticised me for wearing an UD, so I've actually put a shirt on today. and T shirts. Carianne: I I I think criticize is probably over egging it slightly. Jo: Right, okay. they did one thing that thank you. I actually probably got dressed today. Carianne: But I do I do appreciate the effort of of of actually looking like you got dressed. Jo: one thing one thing this is is like Lisa got teased about her fashion sense, right? And they Carianne: Yeah. Jo: said right she's made quite a look of stretchy pants and whatever else it was. slip Carianne: slip on shoes. Jo: Yes. When have we ever seen I mean i even her Right, even her pajamas are immaculately coordinated with a matching dressing gown. And Carianne: Yeah. Jo: when er the the closest we've seen a slobing when she had flu or whatever it was, she was still wearing jeans. That was her slobbing around the house outfit. So we've never seen her wear Carianne: Yeah. She was. Yeah, I I'm not I think you're right. Jo: stretchy pants. Carianne: We have never seen her wear stretchy pants apart from when she was running. We saw her Jo: Yes yes. Carianne: in stretchy pants. But yeah, you're right. You're absolutely right. I don't know what Carla sees that we don't see, but she is she doesn't seem to be a fan of stretchy pants and slip on shoes. Slip on shoes, she's always in boots for a start. Jo: Flip flops are slip on as well, aren't they? Carianne: Fli well yes, the car Carla can't talk. and Carla's been in more scenes with sweatpants on than Lisa has for sure. So Jo: Hm. Yes, so Carianne: I'm not quite sure where that came from, but anyway, you know, she is teased about her fashion choices. And I love the fact that Carla has had the waistbands of the PJs, changed, haven't they, from a drawstring to elastic. S because Betsy obviously can't pull up her own PJs with two hands, so it's so sweet, It was, wasn't it just? Gosh. Three of them together. Very yeah. Really. Jo: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. whole thing was beautiful and just so heartwarming. Yeah. Par parenting and looking after their daughter. Daughter to both of them. It was just so lovely. Carianne: I know. Yeah. It it's really s it's really cemented Those three. Jo: And Ryan as well, so they cemented the whole family unit. yeah. Carianne: I mean we've seen a lot of that in the last couple of weeks, obviously the the the presence of of Ryan and how how effective he is within the family unit. Jo: Yeah. They're practicing their plosives. Carianne: she gets a text message. They are practicing their plosives so what is what does Betsy want her mum to do? Jo: So yeah, she'd think she'd be saying trying to say a word with P, but I like to think she was just telling Elisa to fuck off. I mean I know sometimes well like when young children sometimes have difficult between P and F. My niece did. And she used to call Carianne: Yeah. Jo: my son Pinley, when she was Carianne: Right. Jo: very small. Carianne: Okay. Jo: she's Carianne: Okay, yep, so we're going with no I'm I'm Jo: But she couldn't clip inside piss off. Carianne: I'm still going with piss off. Well I mean there's no way that they would have done it done that on them on Coronation Street. Jo: No. Carianne: Either way anyway. Jo: It's open to interpretation, depending on how foul mouthed the viewer is. So clearly I have more foul mouth than you. Carianne: Yeah, of course. That's how how much of no, come on, you know me. I'm I'm Jo: Yeah. Carianne: the foulest of mouths. I'm a complete potty mouth. But anyway. yeah, you know, but that laugh, you know, that Lisa Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: and Carla and Lisa and, you know, Betsy after the after they said that. it was very sweet. So cute. What a cute, cute scene, Jo: you know I've spent a lot of time in the autumn and summer in hospital rooms with relatives. And it's Carianne: Yes. Yeah. Jo: the kind of you want that kind of light hearted you want to have fun together despite why you're there. And so that's what kind of was beautifully shown in that, I thought. Carianne: Yeah, it's that yeah, it it's that despite everything that's going on and despite everything that's happened, despite all this kind of undercurrent of at that point, that undercurrent that Lisa mentions about, you know, pressing charges and stuff like that, they're still just a family and they're still, you know, want to want to try to find the lighter moments in any of it, you Jo: Yeah. Carianne: know? Jo: I think the thing game through was the like huge amount of love within that family. Hmm. Okay. Okay. We got tissues to hand. Carianne: gosh, yeah. Don't get me started. It's too early to get emotional. No I have God, I'm pathetic. Jo: He Mm-hmm. Carianne: so we get the end of that scene, we get obviously Lisa literally morphing from Lisa's Connorswain DS Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: Connorswain as she walks out out the door. Jo: Yes. I appreciate Tina Faye been giving her the correct title, Queen Tina Fey. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Carianne: Queen Queen Tina Faye. You can't see it with us. all the I love you's and the the head kisses Betsy's hand reaching for Carla's hand when when Lisa was gone. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: And honestly, I said it in my TikTok on the day. I just I can't imagine what this would have been like if this had been Becky. Jo: No. Carianne: I don't know why I thought about it. I'm a complete masochist. I just thought, gosh, it's just must be so different for Betsy and for Lisa, to have someone Jo: Think Carianne: like Carla. Jo: yes. I think with Becky you would have thought she would have been I'd say as supportive towards Betsy but it would have felt more performative. Carianne: It it it kinda at the Jo: and there would have been a conducurent of judgment against Lisa when Lisa had to leave. Carianne: Yeah, it she would have been incredibly supportive of Betsy, but at the at at the expense of Lisa and Betsy's Jo: Yes. Carianne: relationship. So she would have literally, you know, she would have had a go at Lisa for going having to go to work. she would have, you know, been turning Betsy against her at the time and stuff like that. Anyway, I'm not gonna talk about it, right? Don't god, yeah. I would. Wow. Context is everything. Jo: And that you can't sit with us would have hit completely differently. Context is everything. Carianne: It is, So so we have our first segment of El says because the next scene we've got to talk about Jo: Okay. Carianne: is Sarah's arrest. And I'm like, Jo: Ha ha ha. Carianne: heavy handed much? Heavy handed. El says, it just wouldn't happen like that. So for anyone that's wondering, there was absolutely no need for any of that at all. So why on earth did they do it like that, I wonder? What do you reckon? Jo: in my imagination it's because it's to give the uniformed officers on the raid a treat. no, you just gonna Carianne: Yeah. Jo: go can we use the door basher sarge, please? all Carianne: Yeah. Jo: right then. Carianne: What's it actually called? god, I can't remember what it's called now. Yeah, is it a ram? Jo: It's must have something with a ram. Ram something with ram in it? Carianne: dunno. someone help us out, please God. yeah, so so Sarah gets arrested and everyone's up in Jo: Yeah, okay. Yeah. yeah. Carianne: arms and we're all just shocked by how heavy-handed it is. And then and then we our next team is out on the street and gosh. I mean I'm I'm I'm gonna rage with about Kit a lot, I think I think this Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: morning. But he just rounds on Lisa outside the flat and basically says, Are you for real? I'm like, Kit, you know that Sarah Jo: yes. Carianne: murdered Theo. What are you doing? Jo: was that the point where he says you're making us look stupid or you're making us look like Yes, it's like no, 'cause you've just arrested the right person. Carianne: Yeah, you're making a fallout like a laughing stock. You're making a laughing stock. It was honestly the brass balls on that man. Why do they want I might come to this later, but we can just talk about it now or not, you can choose. why do they want this to push this relationship of these two onto us? It's loathsome. it Yeah, yeah. A Jo: You mean Kit and Lisa? As as siblings. Carianne: sibling rivalry or whatever the fuck it's meant to be. It I just why? Why they do this? Jo: Well, I mean, they work together and they ha and I suppose that dramatic tension for the antagonism between them. in terms of get it being a sibling dynamic, I can kind of see that in a whatever happened to Baby Jane kind of way, you know, got kind of a Yes. Or Carianne: Okay. All right. Jo: Olivia de Havilland and Joan Fontaine, you know, where they hate each other. Carianne: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Jo: So just because it's a sibling dynamic doesn't mean it's a healthy one. Carianne: Yeah, and and and I Jo: Or loving one, it's just a Carianne: I completely resent the fact that he tries to use that later on in the week, you know. you know, come on, we're neighbours, we live next door, whatever it is. And I'm like, What? But you would happily have a go at her in the middle of the street with everyone looking and basically try to undermine her. It's awful. Jo: And there's been recently, I mean when was it that Lisa's said, come on mate, and he went, no, no, not mate. Carianne: Yeah. Yeah, it's like, that's a new one. Yeah, that was last like the week before. He'd already Jo: Yeah. Carianne: you know, he was like, no, that's a new one. I'm like, god. Anyway, so it's all just awful. I hate that relationship. I don't want to see them together ever. because Jo: Well, it's kind of difficult with them both being police officers. Carianne: well I know, but you know, he's n he's now supposed to be on another case, right? the the manpower that has been pulled off of that off the Jo: Mm. Carianne: murder investigation to go and sort out the drugs problem. it's awful. and I like Mac better because Jo: yes. Carianne: because obviously she's she won't give Lisa a neckache. so our next scene is DS Connorswain in full flow. She's interviewing Sarah. but she already has this evidence, doesn't she? In her back pocket, or actually on the floor by the side of her, is this this evidence bag and she lets So Jo: Mm. Yeah. Yeah. She sitting there feeling smug, waiting for the moment to go AHHHH Carianne: Which she absolutely does. Not quite like that, not quite dramatically, but but just the way she slides it across the desk. She's like, Do you want to tell me about this? You know? she she lets Sarah paint herself into a corner and then she just does it. Jo: Do you honestly do you think she and Mac rehearsed that, what they were going to do? Cause Mac says, for the tape, D.S. Swain is showing showing Sarah her Carianne: Yes, because yeah. Jo: bloodied outfit with Theo Silverton's Carianne: From the wedding. Jo: blood on it. Carianne: Yeah. I mean, I don't know, but they've I Jo: Ha ha Carianne: don't know. Do they learn that in police school? This is this is where we need L. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: but yeah. So so obviously, you know, Sarah's like, crap. Jo: Yes. Carianne: I have no explanation for this at this point in time. Jo: Mm. Carianne: because then we see this scene between Kit my god, my god, I nearly threw the TV out the window. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: For basically waltzing into the station verbally abusing Lisa. I can't I can't put it any other way. Verbally abusing her, going in all guns blazing, being a disrespectful little shit, accusing Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: her of skulking behind his back. I I'm sorry, Kit, you're not on the case anymore for obvious fucking reasons now. But secondly She's not skulking behind your back. Y she doesn't owe you any information whatsoever. Jo: What exactly I I mean I I don't think it's police you know, amongst your colleagues, police etiquette, you just get I'm about to arrest your w your missus. You don't give them a heads up, do you? I would have thought. I think it would be frowned upon, personally, that you you know, if someone's partner is implicated in something, if you give them a heads up that they're about to arrest them. before this at some point we've had Kit skulking round evidence locker. Yes. and Carianne: yes. Yes we have. yes we have. Jo: inc incriminating himself. He really wouldn't make a he looked so shifty, he wouldn't make a criminal, would he? At all. Carianne: No. It's totally stupid. Jo: No, so Yeah. Anyway, carry on. Carianne: just saying. But Lisa's very calm about it and she just she just says Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: I know this is humiliating for you like Jo: Mm. Carianne: my god and how? Because he's literally been living with her for three months and he didn't realise I Jo: Yes. Carianne: mean he's it was it was amazing. But Mac very much going into back. you know, basically Jo: Yeah. Carianne: sticking up for Lisa. my gosh. She's she's sh she is she is a little she's like a little terrier, isn't she? we haven't seen her this week but last week she was great. Jo: She's got a little of tack rotwiner by her side now. Yes. Carianne: but Lisa's like really calm I know where she's calm because she's more professional than he is clearly. but you know just once, just once I would like to see her I'd like to do a coronation treat after dark and I would like to see her just tell him once to go fuck himself. I really, really would. I really Jo: Yeah, yes. Yes. Carianne: would. Jo: do you think she's calm because there is an element of How said been there, done that, and that she Carianne: Bye B. Jo: didn't know about Becky. I mean, she reacted completely differently when she knew about Becky, But she lived she didn't know her wife was corrupt. Carianne: Yeah, I'm I'm certain that she's ha she has got empathy, for his situation. I'm sure she does. Jo: mentioning Carianne: I mean and if she doesn't realise the you know, the the Jo: Yeah. Carianne: similarities in this case, then it's just as well Kit's there because he keeps reminding her. And every Jo: Yes. Yeah. Carianne: opportunity, any opportunity he can get, he's gonna mention her name, little twat. Jo: But I suppose the thing is it's h even if they've been in similar situations, it's how they've reacted to those situations. So Carianne: Exactly. So so there so there is a there is a stark difference between the way that Kit has reacted to the news that Sarah is a murderer and Jo: Mm. Carianne: the news that Becky was a attempted murderer. Yep. Jo: Attempted murderer, yes. And not not just in that Lisa arrested Becky, but Lisa then it's she kind of let due process take its course. She's of course I need to be investigated. I will wait for this to happen. Carianne: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Absolutely. she was under investigation because obviously because of it all. And the first thing she Jo: Yeah. Carianne: did when she was capable of doing so, when she found out what what happened to what happened to Carla, what happened to Costello and all that all of that stuff came up, we assume we have to assume because it was never said, Jo: Mm. Mm. Carianne: was so she arrested her. You know, so Jo: Yes. Carianne: what did Kit do? What did Kit do? He basically went around covering it up and trying to pin it on someone else. Jo: Yeah. Yes. Carianne: So so I'm sorry. when Lisa tells Mac that sh that he's a good copper I'm sorry, I'm sorry. if a good copper means bent, corrupt, tampering with evidence, trying to tamper with evidence, then yes, he's a good copper. But I don't think it means that, Lisa. Jo: So this has been discussed on X thing. if it had been Carla who'd offed someone would Lisa cover it up? I'm fairly certain she wouldn't try and pin it on someone else. Carianne: Yeah. Ella and I discussed this on the last podcast. We Jo: Mm. Carianne: we had that conversation, we had that question, and it's like if this had been the other way around, what would have happened? So go and listen to that. No, but no, basically it I Jo: Okay, right. I won't we won't bore your listeners again then. Carianne: no, I think I think we said something to the effect of, well, I don't think Carla would let Lisa take the rap you know, I don't think Carla would let Lisa lie on her behalf. Jo: Yeah. I remember now I have listened to it. I did listen to it. It was a few weeks ago though. When it was when it came out. I listened to it straight away. Lots happened since then. Carianne: Hmm, I know, I know. It has slept for a start. yeah, I think we s we basically said, you know, Lisa would probably want to not implicate someone else, but let basically say, Let's keep quiet about this and let's see what happens. Whereas Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: Carla would probably have turned around and said, I'm not put going to put you in this position. Jo: Yes. Carianne: I don't want to put you in this position, I'm just gonna go and come clean. So I I don't know. It's hard to say. Carla's changed Jo: Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: so much. There were things that she did, you know. nineteen, twenty years ago, which would possibly not be the greatest now. I'm not Jo: Mm. Carianne: sure she would do the same thing now. But Jo: Isn't that true for most of us though? S stuff Carianne: god, yeah. Jo: we did twenty I mean not the set. Carianne: I was a whole other person 20 years ago. Absolutely. Jo: yeah. Carianne: and then Mac making the point that he's missed all the clues, but then so did Lisa. And and I think that you're right. Jo: Yes. Carianne: I think that that because of that, Lisa will have some empathy because of that. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: but Mac basically calling him the Roy Keane of Weatherfield. She Jo: Yeah. Carianne: really doesn't like him, does she? Welcome Jo: No. Carianne: to the team, Mac. Welcome to the team of the kit haters. yeah. Jo: Yes. Now, quick question, did you know what oxters were? Carianne: Not at the time, no. I do now. Do now. Jo: Yeah, no I hadn't got no I hadn't got a clip. Carianne: Yeah, I wondered because obviously it's Scottish, Gaelic, Irish, you know, it means armpits for anyone that doesn't know, but it's yeah. yeah, I didn't know. Jo: Entertaining and educational. Coronation Street, not this. Yeah, Coronation Street. Carianne: What, Cory? Yeah, okay, I was gonna say you need to clarify whether you mean this podcast, because this podcast is not educational in any way. Jo: Okay. Carianne: so then we move on to the next day and my gosh it's not strictly swallowed but we have got all this stuff with Dylan going on. Lord above Villain or not, come on Jo: She mm-hmm. I had well Lot of sympathy for Dylan. I think he's done some shitty things and behaved in some shitty ways with what he's done. At times it was just like a pity party about him when he's gone to see Betsy. But I can have a lot of empathy for him in his situation. It's you know, he didn't mean to hurt Betsy. It was by all accounts a conse consensual. and I know he he's been looking up other excuses, hasn't he? But I can kind of understand why he why he's gone down that route, 'cause he's desperate not to be the monster. And if he doesn't look for information on and find out that yes, he could he wasn't ready to take risk to to face up to what he'd done at that point. Carianne: He wasn't ready at all, was he? Jo: But then he didn't have any well we'll come onto this in a minute when 'cause we're presumably going to talk about Ryan's role in this. He didn't have any I couldn't he didn't have any support to face it. And he's only people say, yes, he's an adult, technically. He's only eighteen. that's a few years older than my son. Yeah, so I see him as Carianne: Yeah. Jo: someone who's been let down by I'm not gonna say the adults around him, by the adult around him, Sean, and that he he needed someone to help him come to terms with it and he's not had that so far. He's had someone telling him either he's a monster, which is understandable, from Lisa and Lauren, or that he's blameless. He's an innocent, and he's neither of those things. And he needs someone Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Jo: to help him. Realize that, which is what I'm sure we'll talk about in a minute. Carianne: Yeah, I mean I I had very very mixed views about the whole thing, to be honest. just I just did. I mean I can't I can't really explain it. I I'm not Jo: Mm. Mm. Carianne: going to explain it. I think I think the whole situation was meant to provoke conversation and discussion amongst us, amongst the audience. it was traumatic as a viewer to watch all of that going on. it was meant to provoke anger and the whole storyline with the whole Dylan thing was meant to build the tension in the storyline, and that's not to say that it wouldn't happen in real life, but in most cases it probably wouldn't be like that. but you know, I'm not I'm not to say I I have been the stepmother of teenage boys, and this was a while ago, but we were very conscious of what they were seeing on online. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: And I there for the grace of God go we. I mean it's not Jo: Yes. Carianne: you know, w it could easily have happened, it could easily have happened to any any teenage boy doing that kind of thing. So I'll Jo: Yeah. and that's it, but Ryan is the first person to kind of s express that Carianne: Yeah. Jo: to Dylan. Carianne: Yeah, it's he's the first person to speak to him calmly, without judgment, and basically say, Look, mate, this is an you're going to get an explanation from me rather than something else. Jo: Yes. Carianne: and I'm going to tell you what the doctors have said because of course at that point Dylan hasn't talked to the doctors. he hasn't talked to Betsy. Lisa Jo: Yeah. huh. Carianne: won't have a bar of him, of course. and because I'm a Lisa defender, I will not blame her, but you know, Jo: no. Carianne: because she was going through her own shit at the time. So yeah, you know. Jo: Yes. It's not her job to help Dylan, it was Sean's job to help Dylan, and he didn't. Carianne: and he didn't. And he just made it worse. He made it so much Jo: Yes. Carianne: worse. He really did. it was written to build that tension, it was written to provoke those discussions and those conversations within the the audience and and you know, I I think they handled it really they've handled it really well, I have to say. Jo: Yeah, yeah. Carianne: they've also handled I mean, it's not a popular opinion, I don't think, but I I they've also handled the response from Lauren really well. Jo: Yes. Carianne: as well because think I think it's later the next day that that Lauren's like, you know, men always keep getting away with this shit. and it's not really talk she's not really talking about Dylan, is she? She's talking about Joel. Jo: No. But it kind of highlights Lauren is alone in this. I mean, she's clearly been triggered by what's happened. and that's led to this this tension with Betsy as to how they're handling. you know, she's wants Dylan punished for what he has done. Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Jo: and that's understandable, but she's not got anyone to help her. She n she needs someone to help her through this. And of course Lisa Nicola's priorities are with Betsy and she's alone in in facing up with this. Carianne: This tiny this tiny scene that we got with with Lisa and Lauren where she stroked her face. it was gosh, it was so sweet. Jo: Yes Yes Yeah Carianne: but that's what that's what Lauren needs. She needs a mum, you Jo: Mm. Carianne: know. And and that yeah. Jo: But we've not hit one thing we've not really heard is Carla Carla's thoughts on this. I Carianne: Yeah, yeah. Jo: mean we see she's she's just in the supportive role at the moment, but has someone who has been the victim of sexual violence Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Jo: It would I I don't think it'll happen, but it'd be good to see her having a conversation with Lauren. Carianne: Well, she's gonna have a conversation with Lauren next week, which we will get to in spoilers, but Jo: Is she okay. Carianne: unfortunately I don't think it's going to be the kind of conversation that Lauren needs. But we'll Jo: All right, okay. Carianne: talk we'll we'll talk about it in spoilers later. But yeah, I i it was traumatic. It was the whole thing was really traumatic as a viewer, and there Jo: Yes. Carianne: was some there was an article that came out, I think Metro or something like that, where a lot of Coronation Street fans, general audience, I think, said that it was really disturbing to see it all pre-watershed. But I think the The the point was it was meant to drive those conversations. And even up till today when we see Sally and Fizz talking about how they're gonna approach that subject with their kids, this is this is what it's meant to do, you know? Jo: Yes. Yes. Carianne: And the whole thing about Summer admitting that she's t partaken and Ryan admitting that he's done some things that, you know, would be considered kinks. so it's done its job, really, I think. I don't know. yeah. Jo: Yeah. 'Cause yeah, I mean you that's one of the things you've kind of started to see is this split between the older people at the street going, my god, they do this and the younger people Carianne: Yeah, yeah. Jo: going, they're but for the grace of God, basically. I had no idea that could happen. but that's exactly what it's meant to have done, a raise Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah, and I and I'd I I've not Jo: awareness amongst both older people and younger people. Carianne: I I've not met a single person or spoken to a single person who knew that this was what could happen in the whole of this you know discourse, which Jo: Yes, yes. Carianne: has become a word that is been overused. let's move on. Kit still being a big fat liar, a big tall Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: fat liar, rewriting the narrative, throwing everyone under the bus, basically saying it's not Sarah, it's not Sarah, it's not Sarah, and he knows it's Sarah. Had the Go all of them out. I can't I just can't. I can't just can't with him. playing the friends and neighbours card, you know but you tell it is he trying to tell Lisa that if Lisa had been the one, right, whose partner had Jo: Yeah. Carianne: been arrested for murder, that he wouldn't be doing exactly what she is doing, and that is following the evidence and trying to get a conviction. Come on! The Jo: Yeah. Carianne: hypocrisy is just alarming, right? Jo: Yeah, yes. And again, a check Carianne: It's bad. It's bad. Jo: with Elle but I don't think just because she rescued you know, because she's done a good thing and helped rescue Carla. I don't think that kind of I mean, I have s I have seen that argument used for something else, separately, so No. No. Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: You can't use it like a brownie point, you know, like brownie points. It's this is the law. and they're supposed to live by the law. It the law of the land, come on. Yes, okay. She recognised that it wasn't Carla's hand in the photoshopped photo of Lanzarotti. And that's all she did. That's all she did. Jo: Yes. Yes, yeah. Carianne: and he managed to put two and two together. And I will always be grateful that he saved Carla's life. Always, always, always, a thousand times, always. But it does not negate the fact that she killed a man. Jo: Yes. Yeah. Carianne: And whether it was in self defense and whether he was an absolute heinous piece of shit, it doesn't matter. It's the law. Jo: And then yeah, and then due process needs to be followed. Yeah. Carianne: Exactly, exactly. And and there will be other things that will happen in this case, which I'm sure will mean that Sarah gets off or something. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: but as it stands right now, no. Jo: Yeah. I think it'll do you think it'll go to trial? I think it I will they have another trial? I mean I know it should do, logically, but yeah. Yeah. So are they Carianne: Suspect so, I suspect so. I dunno. But this is a soap, so who knows? Jo: gonna I they had a Megan trial? They're gonna have another trial? is the point? I you'd think they would do. Carianne: I don't know. I I think they probably will. We'll see. but Lisa is now reinterviewing Sarah. Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: my god. I I I'm not gonna really gonna talk about that because all I wanna do is talk about how hot Lisa is. Jo: Sh I'm gonna point out couldn't you do that by every single scene, pretty much. And to be fair, e even if you Carianne: Yeah. Yes. Jo: even if you had seen it in the stretchy pants and slip on shoes, you'd still be saying the same thing. Yes, there you go. Okay, go ahead. Carianne: Of course I would. Of course I would. Look, I need I need look, every I I make a I make a thing about doing a massive lesbian spiral in every podcast so I've gotta do it. but God. sh Jo: Okay, right. Off you go. Carianne: no no, it's fine. No, I'm not doing it now. Jo: No, you ha you have to now, 'cause I'll get I'll get criticized for stopping you d by the your listeners, for stopping you do your l for for curtailing your lesbian spiral. So go on, please. I'll enjoy it. I'll listen. Carianne: I d no actually you know what? I no, I'm gonna s I might save it actually. I might save it until we're talking about the caffeine at the end of the week. So right, let's not do that Jo: okay. Fair enough. Carianne: now. Right, okay, so kit god, we've got so much fucking kit this week. still trying to get Lisa to stop sniffing round hit you know, He's he's basically doubling down, isn't he? He wants to pin it Jo: Yes. Carianne: on Gary, so he's still going on about Gary's my number one suspect. all the thinly veil comments about Becky. but then, God, then Lisa just delivers this line. What absolute cinema What absolute cinema Jo: Yes. Carianne: The look on his face is like shit As it Jo: Yes. Carianne: did he really think that she wouldn't find out? Really? Really? Really? He's so stupid. Jo: No. The way he kept shiftedly staring at the camera in there. When he went to the evidence locker, There was a female officer there and he was like, Where's Big Tony? or something like that. So if his golfing mate had been there, he might have got away with it. If it wasn't for that pesky female officer. Carianne: yes. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Mm yeah. So yeah, he's been tampering with evidence. Attempting Jo: Or attempting to tamper with evidence. Carianne: to she's having none of it. they're in the interview room, aren't they, at that point, having a quiet conversation, which isn't very quiet. and he's like, I'm not Becky Like, well, you're a gaslighting manipulator, so I would suggest that actually you are very much like Becky, you absolute twat. because he's trying to tell her a story, tell her a story that is a pack of lies. It's just stupid. Jo: Yes. Mm. Carianne: and I will again say, and I've said this several times, that he seems to forget that as soon as she knew who Becky was and what she had done, she arrested her. Jo: Yes. Carianne: so the CPS are gonna charge Sarah and she basically says it's Sarah or or his career. And I I have another another segment, told you it was intermittent, of L says, she says, Jo: Right. Carianne: because we get this scene where Kit basically says to Sarah, you're gonna have to come clean and tell them because I can't I basically can't protect yeah. Jo: Is this when they're in the cell? Yeah, yeah. Carianne: So audio and visual are recorded in those cells, so they would have heard everything that these two said. So the chances of keeping it quiet, Jo: Surely Yeah. Carianne: very, very slim. Jo: Inadvertently, Ellie's kind of like providing some kind of useful service to criminals in the so I recalling the last podcast she told you how to get rid of your phone that don't get it wiped, just smash it up and Carianne: Yeah. Jo: check it in a canal. Now she's warning people everything is recorded in a cell. Carianne: gosh, we're gonna become infamous. This podcast's gonna become infamous in the criminal underworld. It's like if you Jo: Yes. yeah. You get little little bite sized spin off of Carianne: heard that podcast? They keep Yeah, Jo: L says how to get away with murder. Carianne: exactly. They keep they keep telling you how to get how to tamper with evidence and how to get away with stuff. It's brilliant. You should you should definitely listen. Yeah, okay. Whoopsie, sorry. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: and then we get this lovely scene of of Ryan being the best big brother ever. Basically, Jo: Yes, said Carianne: honestly, isn't he just just the most gorgeous human being that guy? Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: Where is his wife? Where is his girlfriend? Where is his love of his life? We need Jo: Okay. Carianne: somebody for him, don't we? Don't we? Yeah. Jo: Yes, I can't. Yes, yes, he does. I mean mean I would have said Sienna, but she's with Ash it now, isn't she? Or what about PC Jess? Carianne: Yeah we haven't seen PC Jess for a while, have we? No. Yeah. She does have a kid. Jo: No no, no. I like her. We should have more of her. Although apparently she has a kid, doesn't she? See? Carianne: well, I dunno. I I think that I think that we he would. He would make a great stepdad. And he would make a great father as well. Anyway. Right, we're gonna s we're gonna move on. Jo: Not that that would be a problem. Ryan would make a great dad, stepdad. Hmm. Hmm. Yes. Yeah, so that scene with Ryan and Dilla was brilliant. Yeah. It's just this whole you show the kind of a whole loving family unit, how they've all stepped up. I mean, I know these from Cardo, but Ryan's stepping up as well for her. And and stepping up for Dylan in ways that other people should have done. being the sympathetic figure who's explaining into him calmly, who's telling him he's not a monster and he's not blameless, but you did do this. Carianne: Not And Ryan Ryan actually says in that in that conversation, it's like I'm not having a go, I'm not having a go Jo: Yeah. Carianne: because that's literally all Dylan has heard for days. Yeah. Jo: Yeah. Yeah. And that's what it that but that's what he's needed. Someone to explain it calmly to him and help him come to terms with it. 'Cause that's what he needs to do in order to help Betsy properly. Yeah, so Ryan's Carianne: so yeah we Jo: awesome. Carianne: Yeah, Ryan's awesome, the end. so we come on to next the next episode which is on the Wednesday and this was this was the episode with the drag lift when they were moving Betsy into that chair and there was a huge amount of conversation about it and Sydney actually got involved saying sometimes we can't be all over it but she was gonna kind of Tell someone and she was gonna feed it back. But yeah, I mean to cut Jo: Yes, back. I thought it was a very measured and mature response to Carianne: Yeah, absolutely. They she can't they can't be all over it. They cannot be all over it. They you know, they obviously have consultants in for some of it, but you know, yeah. I mean there are better ways to lift, of course, and it should have been done differently, of course, but come on. I mean, if we're gonna Jo: It happened. Carianne: get into that level of detail, there's so much more wrong with it. So much more. So much more. Mm. Yeah, no, I'm not talking about this storyline, but I'm talking about generally, you know, if you Jo: Yeah. Yes. Well yeah, I'm not sure it's this storyline, but yeah, I mean yeah. So yes. Carianne: if you're gonna if you're going to forensically pick apart at you know Coronation Street, you would be here for decades finding Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: out all the things that they've done wrong in inverted commas. but then Lisa Jo: Yeah. We what Carianne: is while they're moving her, Lisa is standing there with with with Betsy's bunny. She's just Jo: Yeah. Carianne: so she looks so forlorn and bereft and helpless. Jo: the this is one of the things that struck me with this scene is that it's been said all over X but how brilliantly it's been presented and acted and so realistically and authentically and there's a moment where I mean Sydney Martin's been phenomenal. She's just been and for someone so young as well Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Jo: and you can see how if you look back to when she first arrived, that she's how much she's matured as an actor. which is great. Carianne: Yeah, totally. Agree. Jo: and I hope she has a long and successful career. But what we're gonna talk about is there's moment where Lisa's by the bedside and watching them help put see into the chair. And it's I mean, it's so subtle, but it's notice the look on her face. There's a kind of tightening of the jaw. And it just really resonated with me because like I said, you know, I've spent a lot of time in hospitals with older relatives. and it's that way you have to kind of Tension, the tension in your face, the tightening of the jaw to try and keep your face you know masked and to hold it together and not burst into tears. I just like and it was just so brilliantly done. I was just like, yeah, I recognize that face Carianne: Yeah. Jo: as a face I've pulled a lot over the past well, if Carianne: Yeah. Jo: it's autumn and autumn and spring of that kind of I can't break down because I have to be strong for the person I'm Carianne: This yeah, I and as you say, Sydney has been amazing, but also we have to give kudos to Vicky because she's so subtle. Jo: Mm. Carianne: her acting is can be so Jo: Yes. Carianne: so subtle and it's just those tiny tiny touches that we of course forensically look at and we see them and I'm just grateful because if we didn't see them we wouldn't notice they weren't there, but we do see them and Jo: Mm. Carianne: it's it's conscious choice. from her and she thinks about this so carefully, doesn't she? Yeah. It's she's amazing too. Jo: But it just makes it so seem so authentic and real. And you kind of get swept s Carianne: Yeah, she's heartbroken, absolutely. Her emotions are all over the place. She probably desperately wanted to help but knew she couldn't, and just seeing her child so helpless and so dependent on others. Ugh I mean, gosh, yeah, it must be absolutely heartbreaking. but then, you know, she wants to talk to Betsy about making a statement to the police. Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: It's it's not it's not going well for Lisa, is it? Jo: No. Carianne: she's she's not managing that very well. I you she's managing it like a mother would. But also Jo: Yes. Carianne: like a police officer would. It's real dichotomy, isn't it? Jo: it's such A difficult one. And that I mean, this is isn't there a saying like the law is a blunt hammer? Carianne: Yep. Jo: Dylan has broken the law. No, so in my does Dylan need to take responsibility for his actions? Yes. Does Dylan deserve to be in prison for what he's done? No. And I saw someone on Twitter saying what do you think the law should change then? But but so I don't think Dylan should be in prison, but I don't think the law should change either because the fact is that for every situation, every one situation where there's a Betsy and a Dylan, there are ten times as many Carianne: yeah. Jo: cases where it's coerced or non-consensual. and those are the people you need to protect. So unfortunately there will be Dylans and Betsy's get caught up in this, but Carianne: Yeah, it you're right, but you know, the the blunt hammer thing, it's it's a broad brush, isn't it? It's a it's Jo: Yeah. Carianne: a sh and it and it has to incorporate everything. But as you say, unfortunately when you drag the net through, there's gonna be the litlins that get that get stuck in it as well. to use a fishing analogy. No idea why, but anyway. Jo: But then there's it's this is odd things at Correlation Street, sends you off down rabbit holes. And I've started looking up CPS guidance on when someone is prosecuted. And there's two thresholds to pass, there's there's the evidence conviction, and then is it in the public interest? Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. And as far as public interest goes, even despite what Lauren said the other Jo: Yes. Carianne: week, it's not in the public's interest to to incarcerate an eighteen year old for that. And and I I've said it myself, I think probably on that day. what I would love to see is Dylan have to not have to, but want to also and cooperate. and potentially with Betsy as well, once she's able to, is going into schools and educating Jo: Mm. Carianne: s 14, 15, 16 year olds who see all this online and think it's great and exciting and fun and dangerous and whatever. Jo: This is what everyone is doing. Carianne: This is this is what everyone's doing. Jo: This is what sex involves. Carianne: and this is what could happen. and I'd love to see That kind of storyline. I've I mean, I have no idea if that would play out like that, but it's gotta be better than putting someone in jail. I I it's gotta be, right? Jo: Yeah. Yes. Carianne: Lisa was obviously talking about that, but Betsy's saying I don't want to and Lauren comes in and she's triggered and she's projecting, of course. Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: And it's not really helpful what she says, 'cause she says, you know, well you should have thought of all this before. It's like, look, if if she had thought about all of this before, if she had known about all this before, Jo: Yes. Carianne: she wouldn't have done it. I mean, it's the s most ridiculously Jo: Yes. Carianne: stupid thing to say. just this red mist has come down, hasn't it? but then obviously Jo: Yes, yeah. I suppose she she never really got justice for what has happened to her. Carianne: Well, she she got her own justice. But you know, there was never anything Jo: T Yes. Yeah. Well Carianne: w we never see this kind of stuff, do we? We never see if she got any help. we never see if she got therapy or anything or whether she's worked through all of this because she was abused Jo: Yes. Carianne: Joel was a violent abuser and a sexual predator and all of those kind of things. Yeah. yeah, her father was also not great. Jo: Hm. And there will have with her upbringing there will have been other men as well who will have yeah. Carianne: yeah, but Lisa Lisa tries to explain, you know, even though Betsy consented, it's still a crime. I think that's the first time that Coronation Street actually explained that even though there was consent, it still Jo: Mm. Carianne: was a crime. and then we get Betsy, then we get Dylan coming to see Betsy. She she doesn't look keen to see him a actually. he's still a bit in denial, I think, during that conversation. Because he says, you know, I can't believe I did this to you. please don't hate me. if you you know press charges I'll go to jail. It's still all really quite a lot about him. Jo: That yeah, that was for me, that was when I kind of started like, okay, now you're losing me now, Dylan. I've defended you up until now, but you're sitting there talking to the girl you you caused to have a stroke, you know, cry me a fucking river, Dylan. Get over it. It's not about you. Yeah, it was a pity party for him. And he Carianne: It was a pity party and He's looking for absolution and I'm sorry, it was a terrible, terrible thing that happened. But there is no absolution. You Jo: That Carianne: can't turn back the clock. It's happened and you have to accept and take responsibility. Those kind of things. Aren't we so very, very patronizing? Jo: Yeah. Yes. Carianne: Yeah. Okay. so Lisa arrives with this goodie bag for her. could c can I still talk about how good she looks? Still in black? Sh Jo: Yeah, carry on. Yeah. Carianne: that that black blouse she was wearing with the white stitching on it? Jo: Yeah. Carianne: my lord. Fucking fantastic. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: anyway, sorry. Calling her kiddo. my heart. and and then Betsy basically basically admitting to her that she didn't make a statement. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: Very touching. Very touching. Fantastic scene between mum and daughter. Jo: Yes. Carianne: Really lovely. Jo: Yeah. I mean the prior to that there'd been the sea with so I think 'Cause I remember thinking there was a scene before that between Lauren and Betsy where Laura was saying, You'll do the right thing, won't you? Carianne: no no, I can't remember when Lauren actually told when Betsy actually told Lauren to sod off at one point, didn't she? But yeah. Jo: 'Cause there was yeah, there was a discussion about the thing is from that scene you could see that they were clearly talking about two different things. That so when Lauren said, You'll do the right thing, and Betty said yes, They have yeah, for Lauren that was dob him into the police. For Betsy that was I'm not gonna drop a minute. and Carianne: Yeah, yeah. Jo: Lauren had and clearly I Lauren had interpreted Betty's answer as Yeah, she's gonna give a statement, 'cause she Lisa was completely blindsided that she hadn't given in a statement. Carianne: Betsy Betsy, where Betsy said I'll do the right thing or agreed that she would do the right thing, she would do the right thing for her. Jo: Yes. I think Lauren and Lisa have been having a hard time accepting that that's the right thing for her. Particularly Lauren. Carianne: yeah. Yeah. And and particularly Lauren at the end of that that that episode as well. because Jo: Mm. Yeah. Carianne: Lisa wants to make sure that Betsy understands what she's doing. She's like, you know, Dylan has to face some consequences. that's what Lisa is is all about. And Betsy's like, but why? you know? Jo: Mm. Carianne: he's already faced this and it's like, yeah, but I know why it split the fandom. I know why it split the audience. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: Because it's it's really hard to Jo: Yes. Carianne: feel any kind of empathy for Dylan. It's it's Jo: Yes. Carianne: really hard, really hard when you're being told Jo: I was I Carianne: by the law that it's a crime that's punishable by for up to five years in jail, it really did split Jo: I mean I had y Carianne: Split split opinions. Jo: like I said, my empathy started to waver when he went in and had his pity party. Carianne: Yeah. Jo: I mean if he'd been turning up and it all had been about Betsy and what he could do for her, but it was just like I can't go to jail. I can't believe I did this. It was all centered around him. And at some point someone just needs to give him a kick up the ass. Ryan. I know he's giving him the talk, Carianne: Yes, right. Jo: but now it gives me a bit of a kick up the ass. Carianne: Well, yeah, we'll come on to that in spoilers because we haven't seen Dylan this week at all. So he's been very, very absent. We'll see. Jo: Right. Mm-hmm. Carianne: But obviously I think I think in that in that talk I think Lisa really comes to the conclusion that Betsy is an adult and she has to make her own decisions and she has to accept what Betsy wants to do and and she obviously does. while her life is falling apart and she's you know just had to accept that her daughter is going to be disabled want of a better word, Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: for a for the foreseeable future. she then encounters Kit as she gets home out of the car. And he brings up Becky again. What a wanker. What an absolute wanker. I'm sorry. What is it with this man? Why can't he just shut up and go away? Jo: Yeah. Is this when Lisa says to him, how could you not know you're the one closest to her? Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Get me up. Jo: Right. So not to defend Kit, but she kind of g she she walked right into that. She gifted that to him. Now I know their behaviour is Carianne: I suppose so Jo: very different in that when she did know she arrested him and she's not tried to pin the crime on anybody else. So their behaviours are very different, but she gifted that to him on a plate. Didn't she really? But yes, he was being a wank. As usual. Carianne: I noticed that she's I mean why would I just I just want to know, right? Okay, so they knew Cornish District knew that this would be airing in July, right? And it's the summer, okay. Why did they have Lisa in woolen trousers and a long coat? Please can Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: someone tell me what not not just Vicky, but Everybody seems to be in jeans and jackets Jo: Yes yes. Carianne: and I'm like w and and I wouldn't mind if they were if they had been recording this or shooting this when it was cold. But Jo: Yeah. Carianne: it was in May when we had a fucking heat wave here. What is going on? Jo: Well the heat waves arrived today apparently in Coronation Street by the looks of it. Yes, Carianne: Yes, yeah, yeah. Jo: now now they've got the C shirts on. Carianne: Yeah, yeah. Now colour. Jo: It was funny the other week when they they they made it topical by having reference to the football what to the World Cup and then had everybody still walking around like Gary was wearing a puffer jacket and stuff like that. So it's not that topical Carianne: Yeah. Jo: given that the country's melting. Well, you your country's melting, my country's not, so I'm alright. No. Carianne: No, your country never does melt. Yeah, and then we and then we get this this scene in the pub with Lauren and and Lisa and Lisa basically saying, Look, it's her decision. but Lauren is a very angry woman, she's got all this unresolved trauma. and I don't think Cory did this well, Lauren needed some time and some space to resolve the issues with Joel, but she didn't because she murdered him and then she had to be incarcerated and you know it's hard for the audience to understand that these are two traumatised women trying to deal with the situation with Betsy. Lisa tries to talk to Lauren. But Jo: But then yeah. Carianne: yeah. Jo: But then it wouldn't need to be a massive thing to deal with it. It could it could just be the case of we don't need s we don't need to have seen Lauren going to therapy for weeks. But they could just Carianne: No, no. Jo: indicate a conversation between Lauren and someone, Carla, maybe. As a way of kind of acknowledging it and addressing it. Carianne: Yeah, yeah. But you know, Lauren Lauren points out what could have happened. She could have died, she could've been paralyzed as Lisa's like, I know. It's like, don't Jo: Yes, yes. Carianne: tell the mother of the child what could have been. know, you're gonna go down the worst path. Jo: what's keeping open at three AM. Carianne: Yeah, yeah. I can imagine it keeps her up at night. Can't imagine it's giving her sleepless nights worrying about Betsy as it is. Without that, thanks, Lauren. but Lisa says it doesn't matter what we want, it only matters what Betsy wants. So Jo: No, yes. Carianne: there you go. Jo: Yes, which Lauren reminds them of today. But we'll come onto that later. Carianne: Yeah. Yeah, well then we're then we see this there's some Betsy and Dylan scenes on the Thursday. Dylan's actually apologising, giving Jo: Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: Betsy some agency. and then I'm I've just asked the question, what should Dylan face? Charges, go free, community service and education, those kind of things. So yeah. Jo: Mm-hmm. We've kind of talked about a bit before. But even so, Carianne: We have yep. Jo: right, even though I'm a de d' been defending Dylan, there was still The way it was phrased, what can I do to make this right? It it's it sounds like it's what can I do to make myself feel better? Not what help you. Yes. Yeah. It's Carianne: Yeah. Not how can I help you? Yeah. What can I do to make this right? What can I do to to try to pretend this never happened? Jo: Yeah, or to make me feel a bit less shitty about doing this. It was still kind Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Jo: of him focused Carianne: Yeah. I'll just we'll just Yeah. Jo: Here's an eighteen year old glad he'll be immature. Carianne: we'll just use the eighteen year old defence. and then, my gosh, then we have Friday Swallow Fridays are back, superhero edition. I haven't written any Jo: Okay. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Carianne: I haven't written any notes for this because I wanted to do a full-on spiral. What the hell? What Jo: Okay, go on. Carianne: the fucking hell? What the? Jo: Yeah. Carianne: Well first of all, we've got Carla saying that she's gonna cook. Well come on, Cory. We know that Carla doesn't cook. Jo: Strictly speaking, did she say she cooked? She just suggested what they have for dinner. There was no mention of where that dinner would come from. Did she? Carianne: She's gonna get takeaway from the bistro. Maybe, maybe she did, but Jo: Yeah, yeah. She just she just said state freak, didn't she? So she she never said she was actually gonna make it. Carianne: that is true. She never said she was gonna make it. That is true. And she's look, Lisa's already got this kind of day planned out for her. She was gonna go and see Betsy. But Carla, of course, because Carla is such an amazing wife. Come on, she's already organized everything with Betsy, she's organized. to go and see her, she's organised for Lisa to go and meet her, she's organised for L Lauren to take over. Now, Jo: Mm. Carianne: having said that, the last time we saw Lauren and Betsy together, they were not on speaking terms. So I don't know I don't know what's happened with that, but Jo: Yes. Yeah, so clearly something's happened. They're made Carianne: Yeah, they have. And Lisa's like, Yeah, let's do it, let's do it. And Carla's like, this does this little shoulder jiggle, which is like, Yeah, let's do it. And then, of course, Lisa's phone goes and it's all just scuppered, of course. Because Jo: Yes. Carianne: they can't have a fucking date without it being interrupted by something. Either their daughter or the the job or something. Jo: They have one complete successful date. Carianne: No. Jo: I'm sure I think Carianne: I'm sorry, no. They haven't. Not a single one. name one. I mean Jo: I can't think of one. Carianne: name one. Seriously, name one. I can't I can name about five that they've had interrupted. Can't name any that they've actually had, the New Year's Eve date that got interrupted by Lisa's work. The Jo: Yeah. Carianne: the concert they were gonna go to that got interrupted by Betsy being drunk. the proposal that they got interrupted by the fact that Lisa found out about Tear Wardley and with David Platt, yeah. Jo: David because David being a twat. Carianne: I don't know, I mean that just that the art class, yep, the art class Jo: Painting. That class, yeah. Carianne: that got interrupted by Betsy fucking up at work. Seriously, I mean seriously. When? When is it gonna happen? Anyway, this is another one. Jo: I d I mean, with Carianne: but yeah, so Carla's like, you know what, just go. I I knew what I was getting into, or I knew what I was signing up for when I married a crime fighter. And then we get this fucking hell. We get we get Jo: You go. Carianne: Lee we get we get Lisa leaning over the the table, looking at Carla, and in the lowest register I think I've ever heard from Her, she says I'm not Batman. And I'm sorry, I just lost my mind. I lost my mind. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: my god, my god. But then of course I Jo: Your wife come home from work to find you still kind of lying on the floor, spiralling. Carianne: In a puddle, yep. Yeah, yeah. she hasn't got a coherent word out of me since. but yeah, but then just when you think that you've, you know, completely lost your mind, Carla then goes, but with a sexier bottom. What? God. I mean how to break the internet, seriously, how to how to break the the internet in the fandom. Blumineck, bloomin' eck. I'm not saying any more about that. Jo: Hmm yes. Although I will say, and I can't remember who it was, there was no excuse for sticking Lisa's face on Adam West's body. I dunno. No. No. Carianne: God, yeah, who the hell did that? Yeah, I'm not I'm not keen. Wasn't keen. Was not keen on that. Was was key was very keen on the two of them sitting in the in the calf. One as Batman, one as Catwoman. That's fine. Yeah. Not not not the Adam West Batman. No, no, no, no, no. I don't think Jo: Yes Yeah no problem with that but No Carianne: that that was what Lisa was thinking. Jo: No. Certainly not what Carla was thinking. Carianne: Certainly not. We all know what Carla was thinking. She thinks it a lot. This it's it's true canon that Carla thinks that Lisa's got the sexiest arse in the universe. There we go. yeah. Jo: Yeah. Mm. But she can't keep her hands can she, so? Carianne: No she can't. No. She's either mentioning it or she's grabbing it. Jo: Tapping it. Carianne: so then we get the scene with Lisa in the in the prison with Sarah. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: And Sarah comes clean. Jo: I'm just gonna put out there, I think that the red tab prison taboard is like the new headbandage, and that at some point every member of the cask has to wear it. Carianne: Okay, we'll see. I don't know. Anyway. I I love Lisa. Jo: Not in that same, but we also we also learned that You can pay pay contactless at the at the prison. Yeah, yeah. Anyway. Carianne: Yeah, contactless. Contactless. Yeah, yeah, I know. How weird. Yeah, I I mean, but Lisa does this again. She just manages to let the let Sarah run and run and run and run and run. And then she dro casually just drops this line in. It's like it's perfect. She's perfect. I love it when she does that. Jo: Hmm. It's the thing is it's it's obvious why it's perfectly obvious. You know, you've just offed someone, you think, now who do I know who would probably make a good job of helping me get away with murder? I know. I cut Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Jo: I'll call the dodgiest bloke I know. That's Carianne: Yeah, yeah. Jo: the answer. Carianne: I'm watching I'm watching classic Horry at the moment and the Wind Uses have just arrived on the street. And Gary, fucking hell. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: my god. yeah I I have to say Age has done him a lot of favours, right? Mike Mikey Jo: Okay. Carianne: North. Age has done him a lot of favours. He was a greasy, snot nosed, acne filled Now actually, now he's you know, he's not a bad luck. But still. Very dodgy. Jo: Hm. I'll set though Lisa does acknowledge that, doesn't it? She did say he's not he's she said if any if anyone would know how to get rid of a dead body, it'd be him. Carianne: Yeah, if you wanna yeah. Yeah, yeah. Exactly, exactly. And then and anyway, she doesn't believe a word that Sarah's saying anyway, so I'm not even sure why they bothered to have that conversation. but Kit obviously didn't like the phone records. Of course he didn't because he wouldn't be able to implicate Gary in it if he'd done that. Jo: Mm. Carianne: my god. But I want a bad girl spin off. Come on. Come on. I Jo: Okay. Yes. Carianne: mean we've got Megan. We've got Becky, we've got Lou, we've got Sarah Lou, and we've got Mandy in there as well, I'm assuming. yeah, so so where Jo: yeah, I forgot about Mandy. Yeah. Carianne: is it? Where is it? where is the fan fiction that has Carla as the governor and Lisa as the prison officer? And all of those five, including Lisa's ex wife, in the in the prison. Anyway, just for fanfic writers, if anyone's listening, go Jo: Yes. Carianne: at it. There you go. Jo: I'm sure there has been a prison based bomb, but it's different circumstances. Yeah, eight years ago. Carianne: yeah, I think so, yeah. so yeah. Swallow don't get their steak fritts, they're in the they're in the pub and Lisa is trying to she's attempting to be remain confidential about Sarah, but she can't keep anything from Carl for more than nort seven seconds, can she? Jo: Yeah. Carianne: She really can't. she tells her that Sarah's not doing well, and then she sees Kit and they have Chat. but Kit's just lying. Basically, he's lying, she knows he's lying, she wants him to admit what he knows about Gary's involvement, but Jo: Mm. Carianne: he won't. there's too many loose ends. and also this self defense thing. So Elle's got something to say about this self defense thing, but we'll go on to it in a minute. But what were you gonna say? Jo: I mean I was saying I think I know the answer to this is look Kit knows Gary was involved in covering it up. Yeah, in Carianne: Yes, he does know, yeah. Jo: covering it up. and presumably he's not disclosing that. He's not just dropping Gary in it because then they he has to admit that he knew what had happened. Carianne: He does, but I think he's also protecting his relationship with Sarah because if Sarah finds out that he dropped Gary in it when she has specifically said, I don't want you to mention anything and I'm not going to mention anything, then that that scuffers him. And presumably he feels some kind of affection for her, you know. I think that's why. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: but in saying that he knew that Gary was involved, he's also as you say, implicating himself because Jo: Yes. Carianne: he's done nothing but try to cover the whole thing up since he found out about it, which Jo: Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: clearly is corrupt. I go back to my first point. Jo: Yes Yes Yes it's it. Carianne: so Elle says this whole self defence thing, right? It would not hold up in court because Sarah used too much force, right? So smacking his head with a metal pole is too much. It's it needs to be proportionate amount of force and apparently that wouldn't be. Jo: this would be a jury trial, so would a jury see that? Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. I mean I mean that's what the prosecution would say. Obviously. Yeah. Jo: Yeah, that's yeah, okay. Yes. But I th I can easily see a jury coming to the conclusion you've got a tiny five foot nothing wave of a woman against the a drunk yeah. Yeah. Carianne: yeah. You Yeah. And you've got a drunk domestic abuser. Yeah. Yeah. yeah, exactly. so Carla Carla does this look behind her. She she like she like puts her arm on the back of the chair and looks to Lisa and my God, that look. I'm sorry. Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: my god. anyway, goes to sit with Lisa. Lisa saying, I might have been a tad insensitive. Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: Really? Really. But you know what? Carna never judges her. She's like, yeah, well, you know, that's my wife. This is my wife and I love her. Jo: Yes. Carianne: And she can be a bit weird sometimes, but it's okay because I love her and she loves me. And I'm not gonna judge. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: so yeah. So that's how it goes. Jo: Hm. Carianne: so Lisa does feel that she needs to apologize to him, which she does on the phone, which she doesn't need to do. Does she need to do that? Well, Jo: No. Carianne: I think basically what she's saying to him is like, if you don't come clean about all this, I can't protect you because what you're doing is wrong. Jo: Yeah. Yes. Carianne: but actually we've no we haven't heard a thing about this this week, so we'll see. We'll see what happens. and then we do get a scene where Carla is mentioned and Sarah thinks that Carla's gonna go and see her because she wants to fire her. Does she not know Carla at all? I mean, does she really not know Carla at all? Because there's no way. Not yet. There's no way that Carla would would fire her, right? Jo: No. I mean there may be some point in the future with you know, if she gets convicted, I don't know. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to let you go, Sarah. Kind of very Carianne: Yeah, exactly, exactly. Jo: gently, but Carianne: Exactly. so then we come on to this week. Swallower are working from home together. And Carla gives Lisa the heads up that she's going to visit Sarah. Why does she do that, I wonder? Jo: Okay. Very understandable. But I'm gonna point out Lisa's just not really got the hang of the whole working from home point, That you could just 'cause she's dressed as if she's in the office. Carianne: Yeah. Jo: Surely one of the the benefits of working from home is she should be there in her pajamas, surely. If you're not on a Zoom call. Carianne: We already know that she has a ponchon for sweatpants and slip on shoes, apparently apparently. but I will say you never Jo: Yes Yes. Carianne: know with a police officer if you're not going to get called in at very short Jo: Mm. Carianne: notice. So maybe she's just ready to go at all at all times, potentially. Who Jo: Okay. Carianne: knows? yeah, so Carlo gives these a heads up. Go on. Jo: Maybe she needs a she could do with a like a kind of bat cable where she can quickly transform into her Carianne: God, I could see her as Batman. I w I want to see her as Batman. Jo: Sweatpants s s sweatpants and slip on twos for her Bruce Wayne alter ego. Carianne: gosh. All the wife mentions though we we've got lots of wife mentions. Wife my wife's Jo: Yes. Yes. Carianne: friend or friend of my wife, well all this wife stuff. It's but also not in any way at all how the spoilers described it. Because I will qu I Jo: Yes. Carianne: will quote you from Inside Soap saying, Trouble in paradise. I mean bollocks, basically, basically bollocks. Jo: Well I think Carianne: If they mean trouble in the paradise is, you know, them communicating about something that might be a bit sticky and a bit awkward, then yeah, but no. Jo: With quite a lot of the questions posed by Inside Soap, like this week is it is does Lisa batter Dylan? The answer is always no. Trouble in Paradise? No. Does Lisa batter Dylan? Carianne: Yeah. Jo: No. Carianne: yeah. yeah. Deadly what's it Jo: If it's something is this dramatic thing going to happen? No. Carianne: say deadly revenge. Deadly revenge I mean and Jo: in fairness, it doesn't say who's taking the revenge. So it could be those Carianne: No. Jo: lads from the other week who were pissed off because they Carianne: Right. Jo: wouldn't share their beers with them. Carianne: And I think the word batter is probably a bit over egging it. When you see the photographs of Dylan in a hospital bed, he doesn't have a bruise on him Jo: Yes. Yeah. What did you make of her describing herself as the wife of a friend? And Carla correcting her? Carianne: I think that Lisa considers herself the wife of a friend because she doesn't have any friends. Jo: Okay. Okay. Carianne: She doesn't have any friends. Sarah is not her friend. it's Jo: Okay. Carianne: not. It's not. She will absolutely want to send her love to Sarah because she is Carla's friend. But Lisa doesn't have friends. She has her wife's friends, and then she has her family, and that's it. I've Jo: Mm. Okay. I just view because I found that very relatable. This stuff Carianne: Right. Jo: that Lisa does is very relatable, is that I always think it's kind of presumptuous to claim someone as your friend. So I took it as that kind of thing. Just like, well I I don't know if Sarah's my friend. so I'll say but she's Carla's friend, so I'm the wife of her friend. That was just how I took Carianne: Yeah, yeah. She sh Jo: it. Carianne: she won't presume to be anyone's friend, especially not one of Carla's friends. Jo: Mm. Yes. Carianne: I don't think. Bless her. Bless her though. I I'm not I'm not saying that that's the right thing. I'm not saying Jo: Hmm. Carianne: that that's what should be. I think Lisa should have a friend. but Carla's her best friend. Carla is her best friend and her soulmate. And I don't think she needs anyone else in her life, really. She's got Betsy, she's got Ryan, she's got Carla. She's Jo: Roy. Carianne: got Roy. You know, so yeah, I mean she's she's okay. Jo: Sally the ally. Carianne: Yeah, okay. I think she's good. Jo: Right, anyway, pump scene. Carianne: Yeah, so it's yeah, so we get this we get this Carla playing lioness in the pub. Nick getting a brunt of it. you know, do you want to wear these drinks? why hasn't Nick been to see Sarah? Nick's all all about he's he's basically been going around all week saying, How's Sarah, how's Sarah, how's Sarah? Asking everybody else, not actually getting off his ass and ask you know, and going to see Sarah. She's she's his sister, right? Yeah. Jo: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: Well so yeah, just just basically we've had George, we've had Christina, we've had Todd, and now we have Nick all having a go at Lisa in the pub. I'm not surprised that she offers to go and drink elsewhere because I'm sorry. What the fuck? Why do they think that it's open season? Jo: But then what else are her other op her other option is the bistro, which is not ideal either. Carianne: No, well no. No, exactly. I was like, ladies, go and find a nice quiet wine bar in the middle of town where no one knows who the fuck you are. Just go and have a drink there, for Christ's sake. But Jo: But it was a great scene. Carianne: it it's a great scene, isn't it? Isn't it a great scene? I love it, I love the Gemma stuff wading in and getting it in the neck from from Carla saying she's got nothing to feel guilty of. Jo: Yeah just Carianne: And and Lisa just saying darling or sweetheart, I'd rather be drinking those drinks than have them thrown over someone. But Carlo, she loves her wife so much. Jo: No, it's just Carla in full on full on protective mode. Carianne: Absolutely. Amazing. Amazing scene. yeah. yeah. Jo: It's Collar Swain. Carianne: She's like, I gave my wife that name. Don't you fucking forget it. Jo: Mm. Carianne: Love them. Love them to death. Absolutely. Jo: And do we think Lisa Lisa was just sitting there appreciating watching her wife go all Carianne: I mean she didn't she didn't in kind of interrupt or try to change the status of that conversation Jo: No. Carianne: until the point where Carla might have assaulted someone. So Jo: Yeah. You said that or she might have lost her drink. Carianne: Yes, or she would have, you know, had her red wine thrown on with someone else and that was all that's just a waste. I mean, that's just a waste. Come on. Jo: Yeah. Yes. Hmm. Carianne: bless, bless them. They're all they're gorgeous. They're gorgeous. and then we come on to yesterday, which was Carla and Betsy. The Carla Betsy Roy scene. Bless. Jo: Yes. Carianne: I can't I yeah, have no words. You know, they're just so cute. You know Betsy's struggling. Jo: I Carianne: Roy is Roy. Jo: But again, kind of stepping up for this I mean, someone who's just another kind of young person who's wandered into his life, like he's done with Nina and he did with Lauren for a while, didn't he? And stuff. And yeah, and so it's yeah. Carianne: Still does, yeah. Jo: So he's kind of like Carla in that it just collects waifs and strays. Not that Bet is a w a waif or stray, but Carianne: No. Jo: you know, accumulating surrogate grandchildren, particularly granddaughters. Carianne: Yes, Well, Nina's his niece, isn't she? And then Jo: Yes. Carianne: and then he's basically got two surrogate granddaughters. well, I mean all of all of the children in that street basically have been looked after him at one time or another. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: You know, Bertie, Amy, and now Frankie and you know he's just the it's just the best character, isn't he? Jo: Yes, yeah. Carianne: telling her that she's you know it's okay, she's frustrated and the road to the recovery will be a rocky one. And Carla shh sh Jo: Okay, the filthiest look from Carianne: and so he's like, no, you know, kind of yes, I'm sure you will absolutely overcome it all. Don't you worry. I'm yes, Jo: Yes. Carianne: Carla, I will remain positive. I will remain positive. Jo: But then she doesn't need no. Carianne: but he's not wrong. Not wrong. Jo: There's no point sugarcoating it, Carianne: yeah, I think what he said was absolutely correct. That it is gonna be a rocky road and I think that Betsy knows that. She's faced with the reality of that every single second of every single day. you know, she's having to work incredibly hard. She's g she feels like her progress is incredibly slow, which it it will be and is. so yeah, I I don't think there's anything wrong with with you know being real Jo: Mm. Carianne: with Betsy. She's old enough to withstand that, I think. But Jo: But I think all of the scenes have just kind of cemented the support network around her and shown this Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Jo: beautifully, this kind of very loving, supportive family that are going to band together regard whatever's thrown at them. And the event Carianne: Yeah, and and Jo: the thing about found family and Carianne: Yeah. And blended families and you know, Jo: Isn't yes. Carianne: it's not not it's not necessarily blood, that Jo: Yeah. Carianne: that that is the family. your family's the is the family that you choose to to be with. But Jo: Yes. Carianne: yeah, and then we get and then we get Carla saying to Betsy that she's she can come home and Betsy's really not sure, is she? Jo: Hm. Understandably. Carianne: Bless her. yeah. Carla trying to reassure her Betsy's worried that she's gonna be the subject of all the gossip, which which she was for a while. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: I'm not sure gossip is the right word. I think that everyone was just very concerned. Everyone when when everyone found out why, it was very much about my gosh, I never realized. I didn't realise that Jo: Yes. Carianne: this was you know, it was it was a good good blend of, Jo: Of course it's going to be the topic of conversation, but the topic of the conversation has been very much not blaming or Carianne: it's Jo: shaming Betsy at all. it's been kind of educational, if that's the right word. People realising, Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Jo: this is stuff that happens, and people saying I didn't you know, older generation realising that this is something that is common. that sexual activity and the younger generation thinking, I never knew this could happen. Carianne: Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. And and that's why, you know, they're not they're not specifically talking about it in kind of sordid terms. Jo: No, it's shock and sympathy. Carianne: Totally, totally. but gosh, again Sydney's doing this so well. We'll say I'll say it Jo: Mm. Carianne: again, she's just she's just knocking us out of park. Jo: Mm. Carianne: but Carla's trying to assure her that they'll take it nice and slow and that there'll be people around her and there'll be a lot of s support for her, like physio and stuff like that. And it just makes it just makes it a bit sad w when you know what happens next week when when Lauren will go into Basically spoiled, but when Lauren you know abandons her basically and and Betsy can't look after herself and it all comes crashing down. kind of support network breaks down. so then we get then we get to today. Good god in heaven, my god. I I'm sorry, I'm sorry, but Carla's outfit today, was absolutely chef's kiss. I'm sorry, she looked fucking fantastic. Jo: S summer has finally arrived on the cobbles. Carianne: Someone has Jo: They're conf Carianne: Finally arrived on the cobbles. Jo: people were not wandering around in their coats anymore. Carianne: They are they are home. Absolutely adored what Debbie said to Betsy today. Jo: that was lovely, that made me tear up that did. Carianne: gosh. When she's like, you know, being so gentle, 'cause Debbie can be very loud and obnoxious, but bending down to her and saying the worst thing about being poorly is people walking on X shells around you and you see this look from Lisa that's like, crap, I think that's what I've been doing. Jo: Yes. Yeah. Carianne: which we come on to later as well. And then her saying, Don't let the beggars get you down it's it was so lovely, wasn't it? Jo: Yeah. It was beautiful. It was so yeah. I think that's what Bets it's I don't know if she's been the first person too, but Debbie being person who's you're Betsy, not poor Betsy. Carianne: Yeah, yeah. Jo: you're Betsy and this is the shit you're dealing with right now, Carianne: Been in the wards. Jo: but you're still Betsy, not someone who is to be pitied or people walk on an eggshells round her. Carianne: It was nice that Betsy's like you that Debbie said, you know, g if we get a bit rowdy, but but Betsy's saying, it'll be nice to hear after I've been in hospital for over two weeks now, and it will be Jo: Surrounded by old people, apparently. Carianne: nice to hear other other sounds, not heart monitors and alarms going off and stuff like that, you know? Jo: Yes. Mm. Yeah. Carianne: which makes it all the weirder when Lisa says says to Carla, can you tell them to shop? It's like Betsy's already said it would be nice to hear. we get the scene where they're sorting out in the front room. Jo: Mm. Carianne: Ryan said he lugged the bed downstairs, okay. But when you see the bed, the bed is a hospital bed. Please explain. Make it make sense to me. Jo: I was wondering about that. I I I Yeah, I mean I did you see the bed today? I didn't notice the bed today, but I do know they send I've known other people who've been cared for at home and you can get you get hospital bed sent home. because that's what'll be better because you can raise it up and y you can move it. Carianne: Yep. Yep. Jo: So Carianne: When you're caring for a patient like Betsy, you will need a hospital bed. I'm Jo: Yeah. Carianne: having cared for an elderly mum who was very poorly f we had to have a hospital bed. Well we had to absolutely fight tooth and nail to get her to accept that she needed one. But Jo: Yeah. Carianne: once once she had it, it was like this is the best thing ever because it raises up and it Jo: Yeah. Carianne: it's just it's just the best thing and and pff you can also raise the entire entire Jo: Yeah. You ca you can sit up you can raise it up and yeah. Carianne: height of it so that when you are move manoeuvring her around you're not bending as a carer. It's i you know and so yes, she has got a hospital bed. Jo: I'm j sorry, I'm just laughing 'cause us demonstrating how a bed works with our hand is not really working on our podcast, is it? Yeah, okay. Yeah, yeah. People everybody's gonna know I've Carianne: Not gonna really work, no. People know what we mean, right? People know what we mean. Jo: seen a hospital bed at some point. Carianne: yeah, that was definitely a hospital bed. and it makes no sense, but whatever, it's fine. I'd love to know where Carla Jo: Yeah. Throw away remark. Carianne: got her plastic straws from as well. Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: because I don't think you can get plastic straws now for love nor money, can you? Jo: She did she said Bendy straws. Carianne: Mendy's straws. But you saw them. They were were they not? Jo: okay, I didn't see I didn't notice what they were made of. I don't I mean, you can't get bendy paper Carianne: They weren't Jo: butts. Carianne: they weren't metal straws and I don't think they look like paper straws, but we'll see. Anyway, give the benefit of the doubt. I think I've still got some in my old cocktail cabinet somewhere. Jo: Okay. Something knocking around in the back of the c curry props. Yeah. Carianne: Er Yeah, and Betsy sees the rochier from the college and says doesn't look like I'm going anywhere. god. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: I mean Betsy's just she looks so down in this episode. Really, really dejected and down. And I think the whole thing is just hitting her, isn't it? Jo: Yes, her future's been ripped away from her. Carianne: Yeah, she's having to be pushed around the house by her mums. she can't she can't do Jo: She can't go to the loo. Carianne: anything for herself. No Jo: Yeah. Carianne: it's anyway, it's it's awful to see, and I think it's only gonna get worse, and it's probably Jo: But Yeah. Carianne: the reality of the situation in most people's lives when this happens. Ugh Jo: But I I can say Elle does usually get to point something out from a professional point of view. And so this is my one opportunity to point something out from my former profession working in university Carianne: Okay. Jo: is they could contact the university and have to defer entry to the following year. And they would probably do that. Yeah. Carianne: I would imagine so, of course. Yes. Of course, of course that's what they would do. Lisa's saying, well, you know, we'll explain what happened and of course they would defer it. But then then she says, Well, not all the details. Well, of course not. This is this is typical Lisa, isn't it? She's Well, Jo: Yeah. Carianne: obviously you know, well we wouldn't tell them all the details. It's like n Lisa No one would expect you to tell them all the details. Really? Of course you wouldn't. Buddy hell. Jo: No. Well she's just trying to reassure her daughter that she's not gonna Carianne: She's not gonna tell the university what happened, exactly what happened. Yeah, maybe. But Carlos Yeah. Jo: Maybe they should get Carla to make that phone call, I think. Just in case Lisa has some need to overexplain. Just Carianne: Because if there was a silent moment in the conversation at all, you can imagine Jo: Yes. Carianne: that Lisa would just blurt out w exactly what happened. Jo: Mm. Carianne: But gosh, Bets poor Betsy. Poor and always said not poor Betsy, but poor Betsy. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: Carla doing her absolute best to remain upbeat. Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: you'll be back in you'll be you'll be our pain in the backside before you know it. Jo: Mm. Carianne: gosh. And then Lauren turns up with booze. Did she say sliders or ciders? Ciders, okay. 'Cause yeah. Jo: Ciders, I thought. She was gonna buy flowers and she thought that's a waste, I'll buy cider instead. Carianne: ciders instead, right, okay. So 'cause I was sure she said sliders and I'm like Aren't those mini burgers or shoes? I thought I'd missed I thought I'd missed something. Jo: Yeah, no ciders. I think she said ciders. I mean Betsy wouldn't be allowed the sid the sliders either, can sh would she? 'Cause she's on soft food. But Carianne: yeah, and that that got me as well because I'm not sure they've ever mentioned that she's got dysphasia, which is Jo: Mm. Carianne: which is the inability to swallow or or really finding Jo: Okay. Carianne: it hard to swallow 'cause I looked it up and I saw on Master Google that it's not essential for people who have had a stroke to eat soft food. It depends very Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: much on what's been affected. Jo: I did quite like Lauren's attitude in that because that it kind of was introducing normal I mean we've been critical of Lauren before 'cause she's been projecting and you know, trying to probably it's too strong a word, but trying to get Betsy to that she she's had her own stuff to deal with and she's not been the most supportive of friend for Betsy, which is not Lauren's fault. But in this, we're turning up it's like, yeah, I've got ciders instead. And it just kind of introduced a kind of sorry, Betsy can't have those. No, but for me. A kind of Yeah. It was just Carianne: Yeah, they're for me because by the look on your faces I'm gonna need it. Kind of thing. Jo: kind of introducing normality into an abnormal and very difficult situation. Carianne: Yeah. Yeah, because Betsy's her Betsy's her best friend and th they are best friends. Yeah. Jo: Yeah, so I'm gonna sit round and drink ciders with you. So Carianne: but having said that, they're they're next there in the garden and they don't have any drinks. And Lisa, Lisa's being a massively overprotective mum, of course. but obviously very there's some very sweet things in this. Jo: Yes. Carianne: Sally Sally being really sweet and mentioning, of course, that she's got a top of the range pizza oven, because of she's got a top of the range pizza oven, but giving Carla some pizza. And I don't know about you, but I thought Carla looked really touched by that. She Jo: Yes. Carianne: I I think she was genuinely really touched by the fact that they gave him pizza. Jo: Mm. Carianne: And then she comes back to the table and Lisa's like, she's on soft food. And Carla slams the board Jo: Yes. Carianne: on the table as if to say, I know! How many times have you said that to me today or in the last two Jo: Yes, yes. Carianne: weeks? I know. She's like, again? I know. And I might again. Ugh. Jo: That whole scene, so mean when Lisa asks Carla to go and I mean I can understand completely where Lisa's coming from. It's just like she's maybe she's just projecting, she doesn't want Betsy to hear other people having fun. Carianne: Yeah. Jo: Betsy's not communicated that, but it's just like you're sitting there, you've had a stroke, everyone else is getting on with their lives. and Yes. But Carianne: She's basically treading on eggshells, which is exactly what Debbie has pointed out she doesn't like. Jo: this is The look on Carla's face when she goes to speak to to speak to Sally was just like you know she didn't want to do that, you know she didn't she just like for fuck's sake, right. Carianne: Yeah, she didn't. You know, because Betsy's already said it would be nice to hear peop other people enjoying themselves after having been in Jo: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. So Carianne: a hospital and and Betsy didn't say, Mum, can you tell them to shut up? Lisa just took Jo: Yeah. And it was just Carianne: it upon herself to decide that it was too loud for Betsy. And it's like Jo: L Lusa is big, massively overprotective of her, and Carla's just sitting there going, I can't say anything. It's her daughter who's had the stroke. I've just got to bite my tongue. And then then Lauren just steamrolls in. Yes. Carianne: But yeah, when she's when she's Yeah, it's like, is that alright with you, Warden? And bless Lauren though, because no one else was gonna say it. No one else Jo: Yeah. Carianne: was gonna say it. Lauren has got the the biggest gob. Gob on a stick, I think, is she she's been described as before. And Jo: Yes. Yes. Carianne: love her for it, love her for it, because nobody else was gonna say anything. Ryan certainly wasn't, Carla certainly wasn't, and Betsy wouldn't. But come on. Everyone's like, Yeah, yeah, yeah. You you are being you know Jo: as soon as Lauren said that, yeah. The girlboy. Carianne: Lisa's Lisa's saying, am I being overprotective? And she's they're like, Yeah, yeah, just a little bit. Just a little bit. Bless them. Jo: But that's do you think like if this had happened a while ago, Lisa would have reacted like that? I would've she'd been defensive. Carianne: I think she would have basically said, Betsy's my daughter and I know what's best for her. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: But she realizes that Betsy is her daughter, but she's not just her daughter anymore. And she doesn't always know what's best for her. Jo: Yes. Carianne: And she just immediately apologises as well. my god, Jo: Mm. Carianne: and she just reaches for Carla's hand. She looks at Betsy, she looks at Carla and she specifically apologises to Carla. Jo: Mm. Carianne: and reaches for her hand, is like, I need you I need you to help me. Jo: Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: really sweet. But she she Jo: But now the kind of ice has been broken by Lauren, then that now it's the kind of that band aid has been ripped off. Carly Carianne: Yeah. Jo: will now be the impression to say, rein it back in, please in the gentlest Carianne: Yeah, I think I think that Jo: way possible. Carianne: Exactly and I I think that that's helped a lot because Carla can say to Lisa now, I think you're being a little overprotected, but obviously Carla saying, maybe we should let Betsy tell us what she needs instead of us telling her what she needs. so sweet. my Jo: Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: gosh, these p these this family, fucking hell. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: Gonna be the death of me. absolute death of me. bless them. Bless all of the swallow scenes. Jo: Yes. Carianne: We have talked about this for so long now. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: we're gonna talk about something else. Shall we talk about other Cory stories? Is anybody in the slightest bit interested in talking about other Cory stories? Because I have to say not really. let's talk about a few of them. Jo: The guy would not. Carianne: We'll just do a quick round up. we have got Jo: You do say it's a Coronation Street podcast, so you're kind of cum contractually obliged. You have to do what it says on the TI. Carianne: It is a Coronation Speak podcast. Unfortunately, we have to go beyond Swarla, which is okay because we how our interview does do that. But yeah, we've got a few stories that ran in the last couple of weeks. Not many, not many of interest. Gary and Maria, gosh, aren't they going through it? Jo: Is it? Carianne: yeah, Maria is absolutely Absolutely at the end of her tether, I am not fucking surprised. Her husband hasn't told her anything that's true in the last three months, has he? Jo: No, I don't think so. You can kind of understand the logic. Not implicating your wife in covering up murder. But but Carianne: yeah. Yeah. Jo: yeah, I mean it's just an unholy mess, isn't it, for them? Carianne: I mean it i it was all just messy from the start, wasn't it, when she gave him this false alibi and everything. Jo: Yes. Carianne: and and at the start she actually believed that she was just giving him an alibi because he was in the in the builders yard, you know, in the office. And then it becomes obvious that he wasn't Jo: Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Carianne: and especially then Maria sees Sally's screensaver and sees Jo: Yes. Carianne: him in the background, which we knew would come back to bite us. We we knew. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: You know, the very fact that we saw it on their on their phones was like, that's gonna come back, isn't it? Which it did. And Jo: Yeah. It did seem like kind of if that was the putting a lovely screensaver on your of like a lovely photo of her and Tim with the backdrop of the scaffolding. I was just like I'm sh were there not was there Carianne: Yeah, I know. I mean could they Jo: not one of the them in the There you go. Carianne: It know or could they not have found somewhere else nicer to with the nicer Jo: Yes. Carianne: backdrop like you know the rainbow curtains in Underworld at the on the wet at the wedding or something. No, but Jo: Yes. Yes. Carianne: no, no. But Gary just lied Jo: Yeah. It was scaffolding background forks plot. Carianne: Yes. But Gary just lied to her for days. It was days Jo: Mm. Carianne: until he finally came clean. and they reconciled it over a tortilla Jo: Hmm. Carianne: wrap, which I thought was hilarious. Jo: Yes. Carianne: She was just I mean, have w haven't we all done that? It's like come back absolutely pissed and there is food and the first thing you want to do is just stuff it in your face which is what she did. Which is Jo: Yes. Yes. Carianne: what she did. Jo: His lovingly created I don't know, Mexican his tortilla raps or whatever he preferred No, I'm just Carianne: Ha ha ha. Jo: gonna scoff a tortilla. A r a pla a plain rap plain raps and shove in my mouth. Carianne: I'm just gonna take the whole plate of tortillas over here and yeah, shove them in the mouth. It's brilliant. It was hilarious. Jo: Mm. Yes. Carianne: then we have the the whole murder thing outside of the Connor Swain stuff, when the hell so everyone's going on about the fact that Jodie hit Sarah on the head. When the hell did Sarah tell Kit about Jodie being the one to hit her on the head? Because Jo: Well Carianne: she never did. Jo: Well, we didn't hear her do this. But there was a phone conversation because I was rewatching stuff yesterday. There was a phone conversation between her and Kit. Carianne: Yeah, yeah. Jo: And she said about and Kit was talking about, yes, she's Carianne: Not trusting Jody. Yeah. Jo: dangerous. So maybe the assumption is is that it followed she's the one who smacked me over the head. Maybe that's it but it it follows. That would have been what it happened. Carianne: It it follows it I don't understand I don't understand why she didn't just say it though. Why they didn't just did they cut that? Was it in in the original shoot and they cut it and they forgot that they'd actually cut that? So when they got other people talking about it, they'd forgotten that they hadn't actually said it. Everyone Jo: Yeah. Carianne: knows, of course everyone knows. It's just a bit awkward. A bit weird. Jo: they figured it's running a bit long, we just cut that line. People will fill in the blanks. They always do. Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: Yeah, 'cause they always do. We always do. We know how to do that. We know. But we're very, very seasoned at doing that. Thanks. and then it was just all super angsty stuff with David and Bethany and Harry and Carla all visiting all Jo: But not Nick. Carianne: visiting Sarah, but not Nick. And Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: we never saw Carla visiting Sarah, which I was a bit I thought was a bit of a shame, to be honest. I would have liked to see. Yeah. Ugh. Jo: Would it yeah, I would have liked to have seen seen that. Yes. and l Sarah finding out that she's not being fired despite being in prison for murder. Carianne: On remand. On remand. On remand. Jo: Undermand. Sorry, yes, undermand. Awaiting trial. Yes. Yes. Carianne: Awaiting trial awaiting something. Jo: I was just gonna say something about Kit, I know you hate him, but I did think is hi him Carianne: Who gave you that impression? Jo: everything you said about him. The look of disgust on your face when he's mentioned. Carianne: Ha ha ha. Jo: Him and Harry, that he's trying to step up to be a father figure to him, and particularly there's a scene where Harry wants to see his mum and is freaking out and it's him, Kit and Bethany. And I did think that was lovely. I know you hate Kit, but him trying to be there for Carianne: I don't yeah, I mean I don't hate that scene. Jo: Okay, right, we'll carry on. You don't know which one is to Carianne: As I say, I don't I don't I don't hate the scene. He is trying to step up, he is. so he's absolutely so he's trying to step up for Harry and be there to support him. But when she got arrested, what did he do? He went and had a slanging match with Lisa instead of being with Harry. This is the thing. Alright, so Jo: True. Yes. Carianne: I always have a counter argument to anything you say. Jo: Fair enough. Fair enough, okay. Carianne: So so yes, of course he's going to of course Kit is going to step up. Of course he will. Jo: address. Mm. Yeah. Carianne: and he will look after the kids. Although I I would hesitate to say that Bethany isn't really a kid anymore. Jo: No. Carianne: So then we get then we get Idris. Idris is the most confused no, he's he's not the most confusing character, but they are kind of trying to build this two sides to him, like the really shitty landlord who beats people up for money. Or gets other people to be sorry, gets seventeen year old teenagers to beat other people up for him. And Jo: Big boy for money. Yes. Carianne: then and then he's like this really understanding person that Sam can look up to and admire and respect. I I just dunno. Jo: Yeah. S I'm suddenly connected with. Carianne: pff it's it's a bit's a bit of a weird one because Sam really needs some really good people in his life and he's got some. Idris is not one of them. Jo: No. Carianne: if anything happens and Sam discovers that he's a bit of a shit, that's not gonna sit well, is it, with Sam? Sam's gonna really struggle with it, and I I don't like that. Jo: One of the things I find generally with the soap is it's Characters seem to be better if they're brought in more gradually I mean, you saw it with Theo and Carl and now with Idris, plunked in as a major character straight away, without you kind of being introduced to them slowly and then gradually kind of. what's the point of the big reveal that he's Alia's uncle? Not Carianne: I know. No one gives a flying shit about that, do they? Does anyone care? What that that his what was it? His grandmother's husband slept slept with a Jo: So Carianne: slept with his brother's wife? Yeah, that's what happened. Yeah. Jo: Yes, yes. Carianne: it just seems really pointless until unless there is a point to it at some point down the line which we don't actually know about yet. But it does seem to be. a little ridiculous. why was that a plot point? Jo: Yeah, yeah. Carianne: Not a clue. I don't Jo: I mean it seems maybe it just an elaborate setup for Leanne to give that line about sleeping with brothers, not tell Nick. Carianne: Ha ha. Jo: But that seems quite you know and and the two things are two things are not the same because there was a clear Carianne: Maybe. No. Jo: gap between the two brothers. Carianne: Yeah. I I don't know. I I just don't like him even now. He's a piece of shit. He you know, he's he's getting Brody to do his dirty work for him, literally dirty work for him. Jo: No, you won't see this because i because you're gay. But he's like they have these characters that are kinda plonked in, it's like here's the new bad boy heartthrob. Carianne: Ugh Yeah. Yeah. I d Jo: Like with Carl and Carianne: Yeah. He's he's a Jo: you see with the the w see where they introduce them with the photo shoots that they have with them. And it's Carianne: Yeah, yeah, of course. Yeah. I I don't know what the story is here. I I still don't know what the story is here. You know, what is Idris's story? What what's he there to do? Is he permanent? Is he not permanent? Is he there to just wind up Alia and Adam's relationship? Is he there to get in the middle of that and and for them to come to blows over it? because Adam's got a really fragile ego and doesn't like Alia sticking up for herself and saying what she feels, even though she was right to Jo: Mm, yeah. Yes. Carianne: give Abby a counter argument to that, to what Adam was saying. Jo: Yes. Carianne: and the fact that Abby went with it, I don't blame her, to be honest, because Jo: Yeah. No. No. Carianne: going to court and risking not getting anything, and having five grand in your pocket, you know, having Jo: Whilst racking up loy legal fees. Yeah. Carianne: five grand in your pocket is is not nothing for a single mum. Jo: wondering if at some point you go they're going down the route of he'll buy early out and there'll be some money laundering aspect to it through the through the restaurant. Carianne: maybe. So laundering the money through. I don't know. Anyway, Jo: Yeah. Carianne: that's no one cares. Right. Jo: Moving on to the next thing you don't care about. Carianne: Jody. Why is she like this? What is wrong with her? I'm less worried about what's wrong with her. I'm more worried about what is wrong with the rest of the plats. Jo: Yes. I mean Carianne: I don't get it. I don't get it. Lie after lie after lie after lie after lie. And they still accept everything she says and welcome her back. I don't get it. You know, no one mentioned any of the other crap that she's stolen that Lily saw Jo: Yeah. Carianne: in the trinket box. None of it. What? Did she not look at anything else that was in there? Jo: I mean maybe she saw the gun and then freaked out. But I mean, the thing is they kicked her out after they found out she d she was the one who attacked Sarah. And then she just Carianne: Yep. Jo: swans back in and it's just like, Alright, suppose you can come back for a bit. I'm just like Carianne: Yeah, I know, she swats back in saying, It's okay, it's okay, I've gone to the police. It's like, well, bully for you. Maybe you should have done that three months ago, but hey, yes, come on, come back in until you wait for your court date. I don't get it. And then then the gun, she points it at them and pretends like it's real. And David literally shits himself. Doesn't Jo: Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: literally shit himself, he nearly shits himself. And they're like, it's fake. Okay, you can stay. I just I just don't get it. I think that they get everything they deserve. There is a real gun, yeah, which which which was Jo: There is a real gun, isn't there? So she's Yes. So she showed them the fake gun to say, Look, this is what Lily saw. Carianne: I don't know. Look, it's it's absolutely ridiculous. And now now they're leaving her alone with Harper. it's coming. Jo: Mm. Carianne: It is coming. That that kidnapping I I'm sorry, I've I've been a kidnapping truther for a while now. And I I'm getting more and more convinced that that's what's happening. Because she's now on a forum pretending to be Shona. Jo: Yes. Carianne: so what's the story? What is the story? Jo: We moved on from the white twos being kidnapped thing. Has that been explained? It was to do with the pen drive or whatever it was, or hard drive or something. That that's done. So where is this? Carianne: Yeah, I think so. I think so, I dunno. Jo: Where's it all going? Carianne: Just I just don't know I don't care anymore. I don't care. I I just I just don't I just don't anymore. I'm sorry. I just I you know, Jody's story is Jody's story. We have no idea really what it is. It's been seven months in the making. I have no idea, but it better be bloody good, but it probably won't be. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: Not good. Anyway, we'll see. We'll see. Jo: No. Yeah. Carianne: and then my god, we've got the Ross and Cassie story. This is horrendous. This is horrendous. Jo: This is gonna be the has is Claire Sweeney in, Annie? No. Has she is that Carianne: I'm not sure. I think she started rehearsals. yeah, she's gone. Definitely she's gone. but she was fifteen, not not Clessy Sweeney, Cassie was fifteen when Ross, who was an adult at the time, paid Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: to have sex with her. And apparently Cassie's in the wrong because she won't, you know, let it go. Or she wants people to accept that he's a bit of a I'll switch ease. Ugh Jo: Your ass is the right. Carianne: I I want to say the C word, but I'm not gonna Jo: rather than utterly repellent and Okay. Okay. Right, okay. Okay. Utterly repellent. Carianne: I've I've kept I've kept the C-word off of this podcast for four months now and I'm not about to start. But what an absolute banker. Utterly repellent. A detestable piece of shit. Jo: Without any redeeming features. Carianne: No redeeming features, least of all his hairline. Jo: Yes, yes. Carianne: And Jo: Very distracting. Carianne: It is I don't yeah, anyway. I'm not gonna dwell on that because he's just a repulsive human being. Jo: Yeah. No, come on. Yes. Carianne: subhuman, sorry. And when he rammed Cassie up against the wall in the ginnel, Jo: Mm. Carianne: my good god, he's just Jo: Yes. Carianne: a violent I don't have enough adjectives to describe him. I really don't. And God Jo: I don't understand him and Tracy. I mean I Carianne: Nope. I don't understand that either. Jo: could understand why perhaps in the first place just to piss off Cassie Carianne: Yeah. Jo: but for them to stay as a couple couple allegedly Ross sorry, Tracy sees glimpses of Ross, the real Ross, when she's that describes Carianne: Yeah. Jo: when he he described Cassie as a worthless little skank. Now, I would I know she doesn't like Cassie, but I would say that's th that phrasing is a massive red flag as to how easy is women. Carianne: Yeah, she looked she looked decidedly uncomfortable when he said that, but it didn't stop her, did it? And Jo: Yes. No. Carianne: and you know, I would understand if she went out with Ross to make Cassie jealous, but when it's clear and obvious that Cassie isn't in the least bit jealous about Jo: Yes. Carianne: it, why didn't she just drop him? I don't I don't get it. I don't see the I clearly don't see any chemistry. Jo: No, no. Carianne: It makes me want to vomit. But but then Ross we found out today that Ross, who knew that Cassie had drugged the the smoothie, just just put more stuff in, right? Put Jo: Yes, yes. Carianne: more stuff in to make it stick, as it were. and potentially could have killed Tracy. I what What the fuck is going on with him? I mean, Jo: Mm. Carianne: I know he doesn't like Cassie, but seriously, and I know, I know, that he wouldn't have been able to do any of that if Cassie hadn't started it in Verticomers. Cassie Jo: Yes. Yes. Carianne: was an idiot, she was stupid, she shouldn't have done it. Absolutely Jo: worst enemy with the phrase that springs to mind. Carianne: the own her own Western of she she's silly and she doesn't learn. and but Ross made it just ten times worse. On purpose, on purpose. Jo: Yes Yes Yes Carianne: I don't because if Tracy had died, for instance, he clearly wanted to pin it on on Cassie. Get her put away or whatever. Jo: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: I I just fucking hell. It's a nasty, nasty, nasty story. It Jo: Yes. Carianne: really is nasty. And next week she's she's going. Jo: But we don't know. girl, come up, don't have spoilers, won't you? Carianne: right. I think I'm yeah, I will. But s I'm assuming that Ross is gonna stick around. Right, God. Jo: I mean the one thing I like not supposed to storyline but that why Claire Sweeney's leaving. 'Cause she's leaving I mean that's what I I mean this I don't like the story that they're giving for an exit unless unless she kind of somehow gets revenge on Ross and he gets sent to prison or Carianne: Maybe. Jo: yeah. But that she's leaving because she's got a dream role that she's always wanted to do. Yeah. That yeah. Yeah. That's what yeah. Carianne: Yeah, that she's always wanted. It's brilliant, isn't it? Yeah, she's always wanted to do it and now she's getting the opportunities to do it and presumably, Jo: Yeah. Carianne: potentially, if it if that if and when that run finishes, Jo: Yes. Carianne: she potentially might come back. So I'm not sure that they'll kill her off. I don't I don't think they're gonna kill her off. Jo: Yeah. I hope they don't kill her off 'cause I don't want it to be final, but it just gives her you know, she's gone on to do the she's she's left to go and do this dream role that she's always wanted to do. Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: Yeah, it's brilliant for her. Well done, Claire. Well done. then just a couple of other stories. One that erupted today, we saw Debbie, obviously. being a queen, what she said to Betsy, lovely. And Jo: Yes. Carianne: the discussion of everybody around the garden party. That was really sweet. I okay. I do not approve of having your friends in your hot tub. it's disgusting. I'm sorry. I Ellen I have discussed this before. Jo: Human soup. Carianne: I yes, human soup. I have a hot tub. The only people allowed in my hot tub are me and my wife. Jo: I've heard this your discussion of this. Carianne: yeah, it's no. You don't have six of your nearest and dearest in there. It's disgusting. It is disgusting, right? Anyway, but they also approached the subject of this this whole thing about choking during sex. Fizz Jo: Yes. Carianne: and Sally are both having to think about those conversations with their girls. And I think there's actually Jo: Okay, I've I'm gonna point out well, maybe Sally wouldn't have this conversation, they were talking about having a conversation with Joni. is Tim gonna have that conversation with Brody? Carianne: Well y well, Tim doesn't need to have that conversation with Brody, 'cause Brody knows all about it now, doesn't he? Jo: Yes, but yes, I suppose so. But they're Carianne: Oi. Jo: talking to men in talking to the young men in their lives as well the the boys in their lives as well as just the Carianne: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. I I I like to think that Tim probably has had that discussion with Brody, or Brody and Tim have talked about it in the in the storyline in the last couple of weeks, I would imagine. Jo: Yes, yes, yes. Carianne: and Brody seems to be incredibly sensible about it. Or he's he seemed to be very upset and he was not he's not keen on Dylan right now. Jo: No. No. Carianne: I have to say, the conversation, I mean Mary never fails, never fails to deliver, does she? The the Jo: Yeah. Carianne: whole thing about the bunk beds was hilarious. Jo: Hehehehehe I shouldn't have had a drink just then, should I? I've nearly spat it out of my screen. Yes. Carianne: and this whole talented Mr. Ripley thing Jo: Yes. Carianne: was was all very lovely. And when Sally was going to unveil the pizza oven, she was going, A naked statue of Ben Shepherd, a naked statue Jo: Yes. Carianne: of Ben Shepherd. Jo: Now you see, I have my little pet. This is not happening, but a storyline for Mary that would be which would kill, it would kind of tick a few boxes. Elle saying that she's has is Sarah the one who fit finished off Theo. And my Carianne: okay. Jo: storyline is it's Mary who came across him when he was still alive after Sarah had knocked him, and she finished him off. And then we can introduce Mary as a serial killer, which I could see. By day she's a mild mannered florist. Carianne: Yeah. Jo: And you know, she said if she she the rounders yes, f her finishing people Carianne: By night she's a raving psychopath. Okay. Jo: off with her rounders bat. Because didn't wasn't she one point she had a rounders bat? She's like, if she if she got her hands on Theo, you see, and she does, she gets Carianne: Yes, true. Jo: her hands on Theo, she avenges Todd, and this awakens a dark sighted, avenging angel side to her. Carianne: right. Jo: So she just goes around Weatherfield offing offing rongans. Carianne: As you know, as you know, we have a speculations spreadsheet on the go, so I'm just gonna put it in there. Jo: Okay. I mean the downside is you think at some point she would get caught and then you'd have to have Mary but Carianne: Yes, he'd have to she'd have to go to jail, wouldn't she? Jo: yes but your Norcross prison spin-off. There you go. There you go. That would that would be okay. See so Mary Carianne: Yes, my spin off, yeah. My bad girl spin off. Yeah. Excellent. All right. Jo: becomes a a serial killer. An avenging angel serial killer. Weatherfield's version of the Punisher. Carianne: No, he killed Theo. Here we go. Jo: and then and then move when she's caught eventually is moved into the bad girl's spin off that we're having. Yeah, cool. Good. Job's a good one. Yeah. Carianne: Awesome, right. Yep. I I think it's great. I think it should be on the cobbles and behind bars. There you go. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: so the last one is our little Asher and Siena story. which is cute. Except Jo: Yes. Yes. Carianne: it's not cute because Nina is a twat. Jo: Yes. Yes. Just assuming that yeah. Carianne: She's basically the cock blocker extraordinaire, isn't she? Jo: Ha ha. Carianne: This is Nina's exit, surely, isn't it? Jo: Yes, I don't know what it's going to Carianne: I don't know what it's gonna but Asher accused Nina today of being scared to take chances, you know. So Jo: Yes. Carianne: maybe Nina's gonna say, Well fuck you, I am gonna take a chance. I'm gonna go travelling or something. I I sus Jo: Yeah. I'm going down to London. London Yeah. Carianne: But Sienna's gonna forgive Asher, of course she is, it's all gonna be fine. Yeah, it's all gonna be fine because Siena's in it next week. Yeah. So yeah. Yeah. Jo: yeah, I hope so. Cause th there's a sp this there's a spoiler, isn't there, to do with that. Yeah, so Carianne: So so it's all going to be fine. Jo: Yes. Carianne: Right, okay. That's our curry roundup. So we'll go on to our interview. We'll go into our interview. Elle and I met up with Ree or Rihanna online, of course. no one meets anyone in real life anymore to discuss her new TikTok channel, which is called Let's Talk Cory. Now we talked about Coronation Strink a lot and we made some predictions. A lot of them, and pretty much none of them were right. Shocker. But just to put this in date context, we knew nothing of Sarah. We knew nothing of Betsy, so when we recorded this we knew nothing. Any we'd knew nothing, anything past the middle of June. Just so you know. So without any further ado, cue the interview. Caz: Hello everyone. I'm joined today by Rihanna. Rihanna? Rihanna. Rhi: Rihanna, Rih, Rihanna. Caz: Ri Rihanna. she runs a TikTok channel called Let's Talk Cory. And we're here to talk to her about how that happened, but also about her love of Coronation Street, which is why it happened, I'm assuming. hi Wi, hi, how are you doing? Yeah, good, good. How it yeah, so you Rhi: Hello, how are you doing? Good. Caz: you were telling me you were up very late last night. What were you doing? Rhi: well, me and my little less talk car read gang, if we want to call it that. Caz: Ha ha. Rhi: We FaceTime every day without fail and we're just chatting away. Not even about car read, just about the most randomest stuff. Next thing you know. Got Caz: Right. Okay, so you so you've built up a a quite a little community, haven't you? Rhi: a little community going yet. Caz: Awesome, awesome. So, I've got we've we've got loads of questions to ask you. I now I just wanna Rhi: Bye-bye. Caz: I just wanna explain. We've had some technical issues and Elle can't join us at the moment, but she's gonna keep trying. because we were originally gonna do this as a three hander, but But technical issues have decided that we can't because they're bastards. And so we'll keep trying to get her in the call. But if we if we fail abysmally, I do apologise that you can't have her laughter and light in this conversation. Just the two of us. Well we'll have to we'll Rhi: Just the two of us. Caz: have to do we'll have to do without the completely unhinged ramblings of Elk. And I can see her on WhatsApp and she's laughing. Okay. Rhea, I know you've I know you put some stuff on on X in the yeah, in the recent past about how, you know, you got into Cory and stuff like that. But what what's your earliest memory of of watching Correlation Street? Rhi: So both of my nans, they were massive massive soap fans and my one nan, my nanny Roland, I'll call her, she loved Corrie. And Caz: Yeah. Rhi: I always remember saying to me when she was 14, she used to, she watched the first ever episode of Correlationship with her mum. So Caz: okay. Yeah, wow. Rhi: she's quite literally, well she had grown up to grow up with it. And I just remember sitting on the sofa, cup of tea, and just talking to her, her ear off. we've got her, yay! Caz: wow, yes! Rhi: Hello. Laurie: Hello, sorry. Caz: well honestly, my day's absolutely made. Right, we have L, we have L. Just in case you missed that. Right. Sorry, Ray, carry on. Rhee was talking about her earliest memories of Coronation Street. Rhi: It's fine. So yeah, we used to sit on the sofa, have a cup of tea and I'd just chat her ear off. I'd be so invested in these characters and what storyline was happening and what was going to happen next. And that's how I got into Corrie. Caz: And what and what storylines were running at that point, do you remember? Do you remember your first memory of of the storylines that that were running? Rhi: Well, I started in 2008, 2009, so it would have been... I vaguely remember Vera Duckworth's death. Vaguely, Caz: Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. Rhi: vaguely. And the earliest storyline I can remember is Rosie Webster and John Snape, Snape, whatever his name was. Remember the kidnap? Yeah, yeah. Caz: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And actually that's that the Vera Duckworth storyline is very in the very recent past on Classic Cory, 'cause Classic Cory is running at the minute as well. That's about that probably happened about three months ago on Classic Cory. So now they're they're running yeah, so so that would have been and and obviously I mean obviously we will talk about Swallow at some point, but Rhi: Of course. Caz: but obviously Carl O'Connor was quite a big big storyline, you know, all of all of her stuff with all of the the factory stuff and everything that's running as well. awesome. so just just just a little bit about you really and where you are. I mean clearly from Wales. I I'm outnumbered I am outnumbered. Laurie: Weeee Rhi: Wales Cardiff. Caz: I am outnumbered. Rhi: haha Caz: I don't feel threatened, it's fine. but Rhi: shit. Caz: a bit about you and and you know Who you are, what you do, those kind of things and yeah, if you don't mind. Yeah. Rhi: Okay, so my name's Rui, obviously my name's Rui. I absolutely love Coronation Street and I can't express that enough. So much so that I probably do my mum's head in, my friend's head in, my colleague's head in. All my friends call me Nanny McRui Caz: Right. Rhi: because I come home from work. It's cup of tea in my favourite mug ever. Dressing gown and just sit and watch the soaps and Coronation Street. My life is pretty. an old fashioned life, I'm an old soul. I'm very Caz: Yeah, yeah. Rhi: much an old soul. And yeah, that's pretty much it about me. Caz: Yeah. And and your favourite mug? Is it a Coronation Street mug? Rhi: I if you can see this, it basically says F off, I'm watching Corrie. Caz: Ha ha ha! Awesome. Yeah. I mean that's what I say to my wife quite a bit. So that that mug will be pretty good for me. Yeah. Rhi: No one else is allowed that, it's my mug. Any guests? Hands off, it's mine. Caz: No, I I appreciate that, absolutely. Kudos to you. Absolutely. Rhi: My life. Caz: and you and you will have seen that we have recently been to the Cobbles. You also have recently Rhi: Yep. Caz: been to the Cobbles for the first time in ten years, twelve years, something like that. Rhi: Oh god, I was 2013, so 13 years ago. 13 years ago. Caz: Right. Yeah, yeah. So obviously l to our listeners, we are recording this the week after we got back from Corrie. but this won't air until July. So yeah, so tell us what you thought about the the tour. Rhi: Wow. When I say I nearly cried and my jaw was on the floor is an Laurie: . Caz: What? Rhi: understatement. So obviously when I went, when I was 13, I didn't really understand. didn't, it was too much as a kid. You don't really appreciate it as much and value it. And going as a 23 year old, it was just bizarre. I obviously headed straight for number six, first one there. Laurie: Yeah. Rhi: But my group, we had this amazing tour guide called Rory. I don't know if you've ever heard of him or Caz: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rhi: yeah, he was fantastic. And my group, none of them seemed to like Swala. They were all, I know, I know, I know. So there was me and Caz: How dare they! Laurie: Ohhhh Rhi: this other woman called Tracy. And we just darted for number six. Stood outside Caz: Ha ha ha Rhi: for a while, had a little look in the post box. Looked through the window, see if I could see anything going on. But yeah, honestly, it was surreal. I don't know if you saw that video of me not even on the cobbles but just seeing the sign yeah Caz: Yeah. As you walked through Media City, yeah, seeing the sign and you were you were absolutely yeah, very emotional. Very emotional, weren't you? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rhi: Gob smacked. Yeah, that was how much it means to me. Took my breath away, quite literally. Caz: El s yeah El, I mean ha I didn't I don't think I asked you at the time how you felt about it when you first got there and saw the sign for the first time and and stuff like that. Laurie: I was massively overstimulated. was just, Caz: Yeah. Laurie: like I said, it was so surreal. It was so surreal. It's like anything that you see maybe on the television and then seeing that in real life. It just blows your mind initially because you can't quite believe it's happening. Rhi: Yeah. Laurie: Yeah, it was just surreal. was just completely overstimulated, overwhelmed. Yeah, Rhi: Yeah. Laurie: catatonic nearly. Yeah, yeah. Caz: All day, in fact. Yeah. Rhi: I felt really sorry for my poor mum because we hadn't even checked into our hotel. I'd made her walk the bridge and sit on this square bench for about an hour just staring Caz: we sat on that square. We sat there. Laurie: We sat there, we sat there, yeah. Rhi: at this sign. The sun was out. I'm looking at the Coronation Laurie: Ahhhh. Rhi: Street sign. Brilliant. Best day of my life. Laurie: Yeah. Caz: awesome. Awesome. Awesome. and they make a huge deal of of actually stepping onto the cobbles. They they cordon it off, don't they? And then they just kind of do a rope drop where you're c Rhi: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Caz: you know, finally allowed to just step on and they make a huge fuss of it. It's great, isn't it? It is great. Rhi: Yeah. Caz: It's great. so so let's talk about a little bit more more about Cory. what's the what's been the storyline that has stayed with you? 'Cause clearly you've watched it like pretty much your whole life. the storyline that stayed with you the most since your you know, your earliest memories of of it watching it. Rhi: Probably Aidan's storyline, Aidan's mental Caz: Okay. Yeah, yeah. Rhi: health storyline back in 2018. Caz: Yeah. Rhi: Just because I don't think any other soap has done it quite like Corrie. Caz: Yeah. Rhi: And just how unexpected and that sort of shock it brought to you, it? Because when I look back on Caz: Yeah, you just didn't know. Rhi: it now and I watch it on YouTube, it's like, oh, you can see he's starting to get a bit distant and emotionally withdraw himself. But at the time, you're not to notice that. What Caz: No. Rhi: you gonna mean? And obviously you had Gail's monologue then, didn't you? And that's Caz: Yeah, yeah. Rhi: just, was, yeah, that's saved me ever since. Caz: No, that's that's a fair point, yeah. Laurie: I guess at the time as well, know, male mental health wasn't really in sort of it wasn't really talked about was it? So it was I guess quite groundbreaking for us to do it with a male character struggling and you know. Rhi: 100%. Caz: It started a lot of conversations, which I think was obviously the the Laurie: Yeah. Caz: one of the points of that. but Rhi: Yeah. Caz: it did start a lot of conversations and since then you've had a lot more, you know, publicity about it. There's there's many more charities. Whether they existed before or not, I I can't say, but you know, it's Rhi: Yeah. Caz: definitely started the conversation, hasn't it? about you know, men men need Rhi: 100 percent, 100 percent. Caz: to talk. They need to talk just as much as we do. They find it harder, apparently. Rhi: And like I said, no, don't think anyone, personally, I don't think anyone's done it quite like Corey. There's a scene where he's in the Rovers and everyone Caz: Yeah. Rhi: else around him is laughing. And you can just see like, he's done. Caz: I I think watching it back it watching it back it's obvious. Or it seems obvious but be but because you're coming from a from a position where you know what's happened. But at the time when we were watching it, it wasn't, which which is obviously incredi so yes, incredibly well done because you meet people in real life and you think to yourself, you know, i it makes you very much more aware to to watch out for those those signs. So yeah, yeah. Laurie: Hmm. Rhi: Definitely. Caz: And talking about storylines, what's your favourite within the last year, what's been your favourite storyline? Yeah. Rhi: Oh, oh. I know it's not a nice topic and I know a lot of people hated it. The Theo and Todd one. Caz: Okay. Yeah. Rhi: Just because I've been on Twitter and people were complaining of how long it was going on for, but that's reality. That's how long these things last. And the way that like the behind closed doors episode with the cameras, phenomenal, Caz: Yep. Yep. Rhi: absolutely phenomenal. So that one, I would say, that they're not because of the storyline, but because of how it was done. Caz: Yeah, I mean it's an another incredibly important storyline, another some something that happens behind closed doors we don't realise. Rhi: 100%. Caz: it's going on a lot. if if this podcast has learnt anything, it's that people have many, many, many more people have struggled with these kind of things than we even realise. it's it's Laurie: Hmm. Caz: a it's a silent epidemic. It's it would seem, which is which is awful but clearly bringing it to the fore, getting it out to the general audience. I mean do did you did you f I mean I I don't really look at general audience stuff to be honest because Rhi: Yeah. Laurie: Hmm. Caz: mostly they are I don't know bordering on insane in some cases, not all cases, but sometimes they have the weirdest and wonderfulest and most imaginative comments to make about the storylines. But did you ever catch any kind of general audience feeling from from them about about how that storyline went. Rhi: It was, I think it was at Catch 22, because you'd get the odd person on Twitter moaning that it was going on for too long. But then obviously, if they do it any longer, people are going to moan. But then if they cut it four weeks and it's over, people are going to moan that that's not what happens in the real life. So I think storylines like that, it's always going to be a Catch 22, isn't it? Can't, no, exactly, exactly. Caz: Yeah, you can't you can't please everybody, obviously. but I think if you can please the majority, yeah, I think even if it's you know even if it's not to everyone's taste, at least if it's done well, you know, and clearly it was performed well. I mean, gosh, James and Gareth did the most amazing job, then at least, you know, I think people can appreciate it. Whether whether or not they like it or not, you know. And n no one's gonna really enjoy it, let's face it. But Rhi: No. No. But then you've got like the Megan and Will storyline and to me, it just annoys me. If I can avoid it, I'll avoid it. It really, really annoys me. I just... Caz: Right. Yeah. Why was it so annoying to you? Rhi: It just made my skin crawl. It was that Laurie: Mm. Caz: Yeah, yeah. Rhi: episode, I can't remember when it was now, but when they went to the Shariot Square. And Ben Caz: right, yep. For his sixteenth birthday. Rhi: and Ollie's knocking on the door and she's hiding in the bathroom and I'm thinking, come on now. Just get it over and done with. Let's finish this storyline ASAP, pronto. Stop it. So yeah, that's annoyed me. 100%, every time I see Megan now, I'm like, get her off my screen. Skip it. Caz: Yeah. So that would that would be your least least favourite least favourite storyline. Yeah, she's she's abhorrent, isn't she? Rhi: Yeah. Caz: she was in it recently trying to convince Will to retract his statement. Not not a good look for her. Rhi: Nope. Caz: but but kudos to Beth Nixon who's done a fantastic job with that. so okay, here we go. Who's your favourite character and why? Rhi: Okay. Carl O'Connor. Carl O'Connor, have any... That's not... Laurie: Yeah. Rhi: That's not beat around the bush, Carl O'Connor. Always husband, always lovey. Caz: okay. I I think I know the answer to this, but why? Come on, let's let's just give you the chance to wax lyrical about Carla. Rhi: So I've been watching since 2008, 2009 and she joined in 2006. So Caz: Yeah. Yeah. Rhi: obviously she'd been on it from however long I've been watching. So people think, oh, she only likes her because of Swala. No, it's because I've watched her grow into the person she kind of is now. I've grew up with her and it's just, I don't know, it's just something about Carla, isn't it? Everyone wants to be Carla. Caz: She's fantastic. I mean, she's just a fantastic character. Rhi: Insane. Absolutely insane. Caz: Sh Well yeah, that helps. That that Laurie: And she's gorgeous, so you know, that helps. Rhi: Yeah, she is gorgeous. Caz: does help. Rhi: I think it's because she's strong. She's been through Laurie: Mmm. Rhi: hell and back in 20 years. She's fierce and loyal. She's loyal to everyone around her, isn't she? And there's not many characters like that on the street. Caz: She has a huge heart. Rhi: Yes. Caz: and I think that's what people relate to most. I I think, I mean, I don't know, you know, I'm I'm generalising but but from my point of view. Rhi: Yeah. Caz: Yeah, she's a very larger than life character. She will she will be a lioness for the people that she loves, but she can Rhi: 100%. Caz: also be very make herself very small, you know, and and has and has done. so that so that other people in her life can shine if that makes sense. She's she's Rhi: Yeah, 100%. Caz: very giving as a person. so I so it's gonna come no surprise this answer I don't think. your favourite couple Rhi: Who said that? Who said that? Caz: Okay. What so Rhi: Yes, 100%. Caz: so so tell me. clearly you we were watching it from the very early days of of their pioneering era, as we call it. Gimme all give me it all. Give me it all. Tell me tell me how you felt. Tell me what your thoughts were, tell me everything. Rhi: We've seen Carla Connor with many, many men, okay? Caz: Yeah. Rhi: She's always sort of, I want to say craved love from a man. And obviously Lisa Swain come in and literally sweeping her off her feet and showing her a love like never before. Because let's be real, every relationship she's ever been with, she's been treated like dirt in some way or another. And her finding this real love. And I think because she's in her 50s, isn't she? And people think that that can't happen at her age. It just shows a lot of people that no matter how old you are, no matter who you are, could be Carla Connor, you could be anybody. You're always going to find love one way or another, no matter who it's with. And Laurie: Hmm. Rhi: I think that's what I love about it. That's what makes Swala so. Caz: Do you think it's the do you think it's the hope that does that? So it's because I okay, Rhi: Yes, 100 percent. Caz: so I'm just gonna read you a text of someone who who I speak to, who's a Cory fan, she's a swallow fan, and she basically said, the swallow drought, which we're in at the minute, well, kind of. It's not it's not really a drought, but we're getting a lot less of them on screen at moment. This swallow drought is hitting hard, it's painful. I need them back, if only to prove that love actually exists somewhere. And I'm like, my Rhi: shoo, ho, ho, ho. Caz: God. You know? Laurie: that's cute. Yeah. Rhi: It's like when you see, let's say, Fizz and Tyrone on the screen, they've been together for quite a while now. So they, you don't really see that lovey bond between them, you anymore? But you see Lisa and Carla and they just, it's just happiness. It's nice to see happiness on your screen when you've got Lisa and Carla. Am I missing them? Caz: Yeah. Yeah. Rhi: Yes. Bring them back. Let's bring a spin-off. Caz: The swallow the swallow show. I mean, that's what everyone says. It's like, it's not the swallow show. Rhi: That would be... Caz: And I'm like, well, why not? It should be. Rhi: even little things like why can't we see them do their weekly food shop or arguing over what they're going to watch on the telly literally Caz: Yeah. Laurie: A frescoes. Rhi: let's bring it let's petition for it Caz: I mean I mean what we saw recently when the with the f the feta cheese incident, that was just pure swallow. It was pure domesticity. It was just Rhi: Yeah. Yeah. Caz: a really short scene. We you know, we got them in the morning, we got them in the evening, and you know, they'd had their day at work and that had been and they're they're both of them are having have had separate storylines recently. But yeah, you know, coming back together of an evening for a one minute scene, I mean, I that's fine with me. That's absolutely fine with me. Yeah. Rhi: Yeah. Did you hear that slap? It was a loud slap wasn't it? I'm sorry, Vicky's hands. Caz: I think I think the general consensus is that it wasn't a big slap, but it I think it was either added afterwards, which we've we've talked about, Rhi: the sound of it, the connection. Caz: or Vicky's hand hit the tray of the f of the cheese, which is what Rhi: Yeah. Caz: made the extra noise. Anyway, whatever. But yeah, it's it's the love, it's the love. It's for everybody who's fifty at plus, who hasn't quite found it yet, maybe, or has had it and lost it, or it's just looking. It's it's a story of hope. Rhi: 100%. Laurie: I think as well, it's also a story of, you know, don't be closed off to love no matter what form that takes. Because we've got Carla who we thought was completely heterosexual and then she finds this person that she's like, my God, this is the greatest love I've ever experienced. And she doesn't say, well, I can't do that because I'm not queer, whatever Carla identifies as. She's like, I'm just going for it. And I think that's a really lovely message, isn't it? It's just don't be closed off to it. matter what form it takes. Don't be closed off Rhi: Yeah, Laurie: to it, no matter what age you are. Rhi: definitely. Caz: Yeah, but but this goes this goes back to her and her character and she would never, you know, say, Well, I'm not doing that, I can't do that, because she's always been someone who says, I am doing that and I can do that and Laurie: I'll give... Yeah. Caz: it's so so Carla, which is why a lot of people have said there is nobody on that street who who who you can imagine Lisa swaying with apart from Carla Clark. Laurie: Mm-hmm. It's Rhi: So, no. Caz: Yeah. So, Let's just talk about yes. Okay, best guess here. Who killed Theo? Rhi: Oh wow. Do you know what? Every week my mind changes. At the moment Caz: Nice. Rhi: I've been pretty set on Miles for a while, his son, but then I'm like that Caz: Okay. Rhi: doesn't make sense. Gary. Caz: Do you think that they're Rhi: But then... Caz: doing a double bluff then? Rhi: I come up with this conspiracy theory, okay, Caz: Okay. Rhi: and I saw it online. Somebody said, Caz: Okay. Rhi: what if Gary saw Sarah leave or Sarah saw Gary leave and they both think one of the other persons killed Theo and they're trying to cover, but none of them have actually done it. And I like that. Caz: Well neither of today, yeah. Rhi: I like that. Caz: Yeah, so yeah. yeah, go on, carry on. Rhi: But I'm starting to think Gary. But that could change next week. You could ask me next week and I could say David the dog. Caz: Do you think Laurie: Funny to say that. Caz: That's gonna come that's gonna come full circle, isn't it? Rhi: huh. Caz: I mean, just bearing in mind, listeners, we are recording this before the reveal and we probably will not air this until after the reveal, so so you will know. We will know. But as it stands right now, we have no idea. But with the Gary thing, obviously, the last thing we've seen about that is Gary standing on top of the scaffolding with the scaffolding pole in his hand. Clearly he hasn't done anything with it, we don't think, but is so So Coronation Street are are they making us think it's Gary? And then us going, Well of course it's not Gary because you wouldn't make us think it's Gary if it was Gary because you want us to Rhi: Yeah. Laurie: Hmm. Caz: be surprised and then flipping that and going, No, no, it is Gary Laurie: Yeah. Rhi: Yeah, 100%. What if like he's gone to scare him off, thinking he's on the scaffolding and he's just accidentally tripped? You don't know this do you? That's probably not going to happen, that's so unrealistic. Laurie: Yeah. Caz: We don't know anything. my god, but if that is if that is what it is, I will be throwing desks. Rhi: You hear the hear first, okay? You come from my mouth first. Caz: I will be flipping desks if it turns out Rhi: Ha! Caz: that he tripped. Rhi: Stripped on a shoelace fell. Come from my mouth first, okay? Caz: There's people there's people who with every theory, I mean every single theory you could think of they've come up with, you know, someone who said that he took his own life and someone who said that it was an accident and you know, all those kind of things. I'm pretty sure someone did him in. You would hope. I hope someone did. Rhi: Yeah. Yeah. How would you get on the scaffolding? How would you, you've evidently been chased, well not chased, but led there. Caz: Yeah, but you could only get on the scaffolding from the flat if you went through the window, couldn't you? Because there's no door. But No? Laurie: Or not necessarily, because Theo managed to get on there, didn't he, without going through the flat when he was wearing his high vis. Rhi: the ladder, the ladder, where Betsy screamed. You Caz: yeah. Rhi: got the ladder, didn't you? Laurie: Mmm. Caz: But from from the flat you couldn't get out to it unless you went through the window, but you could get on the scaffolding from the outside, you just couldn't get Laurie: No. Yeah. Yes. Caz: on it from the inside unless you went through the window. So he must have at some point gone through the window. Laurie: Someone's either pulled him through the window from the outside, which would take a fair bit of strength, or they've pushed him from the inside. Yeah. Caz: pushed him through the window. Or he went out there anyway. and there was someone else on the scaffolding. Laurie: Mm-hmm. Yeah, essentially. Rhi: Unless, unless somebody found Summer's phone, because he dropped it out the window, didn't he? Caz: did, yeah. Rhi: And they've tried to knock their flat effectively, and he's got scared, I need to try and find a way out. So you've climbed through the window and there's somebody waiting for him on the scaffolding. But that's, Laurie: Mmm. Rhi: yet again, why would they be waiting for him on the scaffolding? Caz: Yeah. How are they? Every everyone was Laurie: I'm putting Rhi: I know. I could do my own head Laurie: it. Rhi: in just sitting here for hours thinking of these theories. Laurie: I think it's going to boil down to, because we're not going to, we don't, they said it's going be someone we would least expect, right? The least, and we've gone through like a load of people. My money's on the ghost of Billy. Comes back, Caz: Huh? Laurie: Theo in the flat, and he falls out the window. That's my theory. Rhi: Okay. Laurie: I'm sticking to it now. We don't know. Caz: My theory is that I do not want to take I w I want to take everything that Kate Brooks says with a very large pinch of salt. So Laurie: Yeah. Yeah. Caz: when she says, it's not gonna be anyone that you expect, it's like but but you don't understand. We're swallower fans. We have thought of every single scenario going. There is Laurie: Yes. Caz: nothing that we have left unturned you know, no stone stone has been left unturned as far as the theory is concerned. So the theory that whoever killed him We've already thought of it. We might not know we've thought of it. We might not know that it's the right thing, but we have thought of it. It's not it's not gonna come as the surprise that she thinks it will because we forensically look at everything. I do remember about the that storyline at the end of last year, which shall not be named. she sorry. No but she said, Kate Brooks said, there's Laurie: again, Carrie Anne, jeez. Yeah. Caz: loads of twists and turns. We figured it all out. We figured the whole lot Laurie: Yeah Caz: out. We figured out that, you know, she'd taken Carla hostage. With the the whole lot. The whole lot. Because we can't let it go if if if you know w the Rhi: No. I think if you're anything like me as well, whenever something new happens on the street, you're already thinking three months ahead. You're like, okay, this is going to Caz: What's what's the thing? What's the story? What's the story? Laurie: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. What's going on? Rhi: happen to this person and they're going to be in connection with this person. And it happens. Then you sort of disappoint yourself because you're like, well, I could have just wrote this. Laurie: Yeah, yeah, we do that all the time, all the time. Caz: But But we do we we do it and we've done it with Idris already. We've already figured him out. the only thing the only thing that we don't seem to be able to figure out and I'm gonna swear, so apologies, is what the fuck is the Jody storyline? Laurie: Joe there. Rhi: Oh, do you know what? Laurie: Joe there. Rhi: It's the enigma. I like the enigma part of it and the guessing, but I'm getting bored. Like many Laurie: Mm. Rhi: people, I'm getting really bored. Where's the warrant card gone? What's going on with Brian's Caz: Ha ha ha. Laurie: Hahaha! Rhi: book? Why has she got a photo of Bernie? I don't get it. I don't like it anymore. Caz: Wh when is is Brian ever gonna get his woman in white book back? I mean, you know, these are the big questions, right? Laurie: Yeah. Rhi: Can you imagine Christmas time now everyone has a secret Santa off Jodie and all their belongings just posted to the doors? Caz: please don't tell me she's gonna be around at Christmas. God. Do you really think so? Rhi: god. Yeah, she's doing my head in now. She's doing my head in big time. Caz: It's i I think I I've s we said this in the podcast recently. She it's like being in the rinse cycle of the washing machine. It's just going round and round and round and round. And y we have no we really don't know much more about her than we knew six months ago and it's so frustrating. What are they doing to us? Rhi: It's like a bad smell, innit? When you think she's gone and you have like a two minute breather, she's back. That's what I don't like. Caz: This is no this is no shade on Olivia Francis Brown, I think. I think her name is who is playing the actress, is the actress who's playing her. No shade, but God, I wish she wasn't there all the time. Bless her. I hope she doesn't get, you know, hate in the supermarket. Laurie: What do we think Rhi: well. Laurie: the end game is then? I mean we don't know do we? Because we've been left guessing since Corydale but what are the theories of the end game with Jodie? What is the big plan? Rhi: I think she is either going to go one or two ways, okay? We're either going to in six months time absolutely despise her or in six months time she is going to be the best thing since sliced bread. We're all going to like her and she's going to become a very lovable character or enjoyable character. Caz: I'm g I'm gonna go with the former. I'm gonna go with the former. I the the problem is is she's not She's neither one nor the other at the moment. So she's I mean, if she was really psychopathically evil, we could probably get behind that. If she was the be mo be beautiful soul, loving, kind, whatever, we could probably get behind that. But she's just so kind of in the middle there somewhere. Neither here nor there. And I think that that's for me, that's the most frustrating thing about her character. Rhi: I don't like not knowing stuff. I like to sort stress things out. And this not knowing, driving me nuts. Driving me nuts. Caz: I mean I think I think the you know th people have said, you know, she's she's there to get between David and Shona. It's like, well, yeah, she's already got between David and Shona, but the story actually hasn't moved on. She's she's already tried it on with David and that's all just kind of went like a damp firework, really. Rhi: Yeah. Caz: you know, at one point she pretended to be, you know, Harper's mum and that that nothing ever came of that. The whole trolling thing, nothing's really ever come of that. So it's like there's all these kind of little pockets of stuff that happens, but actually nothing ever happens. Yeah. Rhi: Hitting Sarah over the head. You would think Laurie: Yeah. Rhi: that something would have come of that as well. Sleeping Caz: Yeah. Rhi: with, well, trying to attempt to sleep with David Platt. Can I just say he was comedy gold that night. I need to see drunk David more often. He was comedy gold. It's funny, he started to crawl up the stairs. He's like, I'm coming. Caz: I mean why would you, but anyway. honestly, I d I don't know I didn't know what to make of him. Laurie: Okay. Caz: I didn't I didn't know what to make of David that night. Rhi: But yeah, like you said, all these things are happening and nothing's coming of it. So why are we doing Laurie: Also, Caz: Yeah. Rhi: it in a sense? Laurie: you know, that they put her in number six to look after Connie for that period. I think we all thought, shit, is Connie going to be in danger because she's a bit and that really never came to anything apart from the Nick Warren card. So why do that? Like what? I just don't. Yeah, I'm with you guys. I just don't get it. Rhi: The iPad, she stole a little girl's Give it to Lily with Lisa Swain's warrant card. Caz: Yeah, nothing came with that either Yeah and Yeah Laurie: yeah, Nothing, yeah. Yeah. Caz: She's I don't know, she's Teflon, isn't she? Nothing nothing ever sticks Ow What's she gonna do next? Rhi: Have a little bet what she's gonna do next. What she's gonna nick next. I'm gonna say yeah. Laurie: I want her to kill someone either by accident or on purpose and that sounds really dark but that's... I Caz: Yeah. Laurie: was just like, ramp her up, ramp her right up or get rid of her, do you know what I mean? It's one or the other. Rhi: Yeah. Caz: Is she going to kidnap Harper? Laurie: Ooooo that's a good thought. Yeah and then yeah. Caz: She wants to ruin their life, doesn't she? She wants to ruin Shona's life because she Laurie: Well... Caz: feels some kind of resentment towards Shona who left without her and didn't come back for her. So I'm like, does you know, I'm going to steal her precious child? And we know that Harper comes back from it it we turn Harper's out of hospital next week, isn't she, or or very soon. Rhi: Yeah. Caz: so I'm like, is that what is going to happen eventually? Laurie: Something's gonna happen because Jack P. Shefford is gonna go out for a period because he's just had a hair transplant Caz: Yeah. Rhi: Have you seen it? Laurie: I've seen that on I've seen yeah, I watched their pod their clips of their pod on What's it called? What were the pods called on the sofa, which is very funny So, you know Caz: On the sofa. Is it on the sofa? Yeah. Rhi: on the sofa. Laurie: guys have a listen to that or watch that But obviously that takes a long time to when people have that procedure done So they're obviously gonna write David out for a period So is that tied with something to do with Jodie with Harper, you know, what's? You Rhi: so what they film six to eight weeks in advance don't they? Caz: Well, it depends, six to ten, I think, yeah. anything up to ten. Rhi: give or take. So let's call this start at middle of August. Do we expect to see something middle of August if that theory is right? Laurie: Potentially. Caz: Which will be nearly eight months since she turned up on the street. We'll Laurie: Mm. Caz: see, we'll see. Rhi: It's even down to the whole, she rocked up in the back of Graham's van from Emmerdale. Laurie: Yeah. Rhi: What's the connection there? We've never... Laurie: Mm. Caz: But then the actor who plays Graham has had to come out and say he he wasn't taking her to someone, he was taking her away from someone to keep her safe. Potentially. Laurie: okay. Caz: So but I I I mean, I don't know. I don't know if we're ever gonna find out why she was in that effing van. And I I don't think I care anymore. Laurie: You Rhi: That's not... So whenever she comes on, just zone out. Do what I do. Caz: I and I mean I I'm really only on gay Twitter so I don't I don't see a lot of the other stuff but but Swala fans are like, my god, I can't bear it. I just c d why do I have to see Jodie every frickin' episode? Why? I mean we know why. We know why, because she's cheap Rhi: Yeah, yeah, it's boring. It is boring. Yeah, it's boring, but I kind of like the enigma. It's like the chase for the enigma. Caz: I think it's it's not I mean, I don't you probably you guys probably have never seen the film Roadhouse with Patrick Swayze. But if you ever have, it's like that. You start watching it. It's got Patrick Swayze, and so you're like, great, you know, it's probably a good film. You watch ten minutes, you watch twenty minutes, you watch thirty minutes, you're thinking, it's gotta get better than this, right? It's got to get better. Laurie: This is. Caz: And you realise that you've watched the whole bloody film and it didn't get be any better. And I think that's kind of how I watch Jody. It's like I wanna watch because I watch Coronation Street anyway. I wanna watch Because this is this storyline's got to move on at some point. And I you know, I don't wanna miss it. I'm I it's gotta get better. It's gotta get you know, something's gotta happen, something's gotta happen and and then you realise you've been watching for a year and nothing's happened. Rhi: Ha Laurie: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Rhi: That's what it's going to be like. If a year today to the 11th of June 2027 nothing's come of Jodie. I think we all just complained. Just give up. Caz: Yeah. gosh. Right. Yeah. I'm giving up. I'm waiting to I'm storming the gates. Laurie: Off com! Off com! Caz: I'm storming the gates. Definitely, definitely. Okay. What other storylines have we got a minute? Nothing. Carl. Carl. Rhee, Rhi: hot. Caz: what do you think of Carl? Rhi: When he first come on I was like okay I'm give him a chance I like him. My mum likes him she thinks he looks good he's good looking so she watches it. But Caz: Yeah, he's not you know, aesthetically he's fine. Rhi: do I think he's very far-fetched? Yes. I just think enough's enough now. there's a storyline, well not a storyline but there's something happening in the next couple of weeks isn't there with a gun or something. It might even be next week. with who he shoots somebody, who's that going to be? Caz: I think he draws a gun on Kevin and the the gun goes off, but we don't know if it's gonna shoot anybody. Rhi: Mrs. and yeah, yeah. Laurie: Where the hell does the gun come from? He's not a gangster, is he? Caz: I think Kevin's got it, hasn't it? Isn't it in in the garage or something? I don't know. Can't remember just But Rhi: potentially. But yeah, he's another one where it's like, just stop it now. Like you've taken advantage of your mother, who was your auntie, who's now your mum. Literally, you've taken advantage Caz: Very soapy. That was very soapy, wasn't it just? Rhi: of your mum. You've then had your brother's wife. You've pissed your brother off effectively. Let's just storyline to it now. Caz: You you rent you paralyzed Tyrone and put him in a wheelchair. stole all the stole loads of money. Rhi: Yep. Yep. You crashed the... Laurie: Mm-hmm. Rhi: You started Corriedale. You caused a big crash. Caz: You you literally sent Le Lisa and Betsy like rag dolls in the back of their car in their car. Laurie: Mm-hmm. Caz: God, that was that was well we will have done the Corridale by the time this comes out, but yeah. A and a lot of people it's like, you know I think there was a I think actually in this week's Inside Soap there's a there's an interview with him. And it's a bit like you know, is he gonna get a second chance? And I'm like, how many second chances does this geezer need? Laurie: Yeah. Caz: It you know, he he died, he nearly died in Corridale, he nearly died when he got a you know, Rhi: Carl on his head. Caz: wore a car as a belt, as he put it. it's like at what point does he decide actually, you know, maybe I should turn over a new leaf? Because yeah, this is it. It says, Carl tries to turn over a new leaf. It's like It's not gonna work. Rhi: Ha ha! Caz: It hasn't it it won't it won't take because Rhi: No, even if he does turn over a new leaf, you're still looking at him, at that guy that's stolen from his mother, paralysed, tyrone like you said, and he's got more bads than he has good, hasn't he? That'll always stick with you. No. Caz: I w I would never be able to trust him. I would never, you know, if I was Debbie or Kevin or Abby or any of the people in there, I would never be able to trust him. You know, dis I would be waiting for that sh next shoe to drop, you know. Laurie: Okay. Caz: It'd always be waiting for the next thing. Rhi: Yeah. Like how much money is his mum giving him? I'm expecting to see him in a Lamborghini soon. Rock up on the streets. Laurie: Yeah. Rhi: How much money do you need? Caz: yeah. And so and what are your spec speculation? Let's have some speculation about what Betsy's storyline is gonna be. Rhi: Yet again, there's Laurie: Mmm. Rhi: a thing going around at the moment, isn't there, with Baby for July for North England. And I don't want it to happen. I really don't want it to happen. But is that why they brought Connie in? Caz: I mean we we talked about this at the time, didn't we, Elle? We talked about it at the time. Rhi: you go I mean is that why? It still doesn't make sense to me Laurie: Yeah. Rhi: that they've done this big massive photo shoot for Swala and baby Connie and she was not even in it that long. So is this why? Caz: It's like i is baby Connie coming back or I think we said at the time, is it to prepare number six for a baby? Laurie: Yeah. Rhi: Yeah, yeah. Caz: And this is gonna be a secret pregnancy or a hidden pregnancy or an unknown pregnancy, surely, because if you look at the photos today of Sydney and Car of of Carla and Betsy holding each other, there is not one ounce of anything on Sydney Martin. She's a stick Rhi: No. No. Caz: figure. how can that Rhi: coming of age. Laurie: And that does happen, sometimes that does happen, you can have a pregnancy and you don't show at all. And also, I think that theory would work well because she's, spoilers, so is it this week coming, she gets a place at a London school of fashion sort of thing. She's obviously not gonna go because Sydney's not leaving Corrie, right? So there's got to be something in the way of that. And what could maybe prevent that from happening? Yes, maybe, maybe. Caz: Something happens that stops it. Rhi: Yeah, I don't want to think it, I'm more like 80-20, but I do think it's gonna be pregnancy storyline. Caz: Yeah. Rhi: And yet again, they've Laurie: Then you Rhi: made it too obvious, because spoiler fans and real Kari fans suss things out like that, like you've said. Don't worry. Caz: Yeah, they do, yeah. Yeah, there won't be any surprises. Wha w whatever happens, it will have already been speculated. Whether it's a pregnancy or or not. I just think that's really lazy. I'm Rhi: Yeah. Caz: sorry, I don't I don't I don't like to criticise Cory that much, but Rhi: Like if you were a writer of Corrie and you had to come up with a coming of age storyline, what would you do? Is there first instinct? let's do pregnancy. Do you know what mean? Laurie: There's only so many things that we've talked about this for, there's only so many things it can be when you use the term coming of age. So I think that's the front runner is a pregnancy. Caz: I mean I think I think it it this is this is clearly not gonna happen, but you know, maybe a coming of age story could have been that she wanted to pursue her parentage, you know, her her f her her donor, you know. that she wants to Laurie: Mmm, yeah, yeah, dad, yeah. Donor, yeah. That'd be good. Caz: potentially 'cause that that Rhi: That could still happen, never say never. Caz: no, no. Laurie: Yeah. Caz: No, I'm not I'm not saying it won't happen. I'm just saying it's unlikely because know if I don't know if coronation is that you know yeah they they they Rhi: They don't think like that today, they don't think outside the box. Caz: sometimes they just go the easy route which is teenage pregnancy which is it's just so it's been done so many times on so many soaps on all the soaps you know gosh you know so so much yeah I I mean Rhi: Yeah. Yeah. But you had Faye Windass, didn't you? That was one of the last ones in Corrie? Caz: you know you've had Sarah you you know Rhi: Yep. Caz: you've had I mean obviously Charity and Emdale and you know and Debbie in Emmerdale and you know, so many and then obviously Cats later and you know Sonia. I remember Sonia in EastEnders giving birth Rhi: on here. Laurie: yeah, yeah, yeah. Caz: when she didn't realize realise she was pregnant. But Laurie: Hmm. Caz: I just find it difficult to believe that someone the size of Sydney could hide a pregnancy or not know, not have any inkling of it at Rhi: No. No. Caz: all. I I don't know. Rhi: It's going to be interesting Laurie: It was so blue, innit? Rhi: to see how it's going to pan out, isn't it? It's going to be very interesting to see how it's going to roll. Caz: Yeah. So if the cost Good. Laurie: Do you know what would be absolutely explosive, and this is wild and this is why I can never be a Corrie writer, is obviously in some instances where you have a donor for sperm donor, et cetera, the records are sealed, aren't they? They become, or they can become unsealed at the age of 18 and the baby person can then pursue their father. What if Betsy's father is Peter Marlowe? Can you imagine? Can you? Rhi: Right, it's been nice knowing you guys. Speak to later. Caz: But also, and this has happened in real life, you you can also discover who your siblings are. Laurie: Yes! Yep. Caz: So what if Sydney discovers not Sydney, sorry, Betsy discovers that she's got siblings and one of them lives on the street and it who could be, you know, something Laurie: that'd be good. That'd be good. Caz: like that. I there are many I don't know. Rhi: Who could you see as a sibling though? Who could you see as a sibling? Caz: Well it would have to be someone who who has been fathered by somebody who could have been a sperm donor, so Laurie: Yeah. Carianne: What if it's Dylan? Laurie: my god! Caz: Because Sean could have been donating sperm. Rhi: Yeah. Laurie: Right, yeah. Rhi: That would be the biggest plot twist in the history of Coronation Street. Your boyfriend's your brother. Caz: And they I don't know. Rhi: You've got me thinking now, that's all I'm going to think about. Caz: Look, all I'm saying is that pregnancy doesn't have to be the only option. I mean Laurie: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Caz: there there are so many other things that that they could have gone with. We don't know that they will go with si with pregnancy. We don't know but if if they're casting Laurie: I like that idea. I like the fact that she might be trying to discover her parentage and if she's got siblings and then they could bring in another, you know, I'd love that but whether they do it, you're right, who knows? Rhi: Yeah. Caz: but the the casting call was July, right? So they so Rhi: a newborn baby born in July. Caz: that would be airing around September. So it'd be a big autumn story potentially if it was a pregnancy. Rhi: Yeah. Laurie: And if she's in, how many months is that? mean, I guess she couldn't show, you know, she's not showing. Caz: Well if she's she's she would now be six months pregnant. Laurie: Oh, so she, yeah. I mean, well, you know, like I said, some women don't show at all and they're completely shocked when they give birth and they're like, what? So, yeah. Caz: Yeah. Mm. Okay. Okay. Laurie: Hmm, interesting stuff. Caz: let's talk a bit about your channel, Ree. Thanks for all of that, by the way. Rhi: Okay. Caz: what what made you want to start it? I mean, you know, what was it all about? Rhi: Okay, so I was one day, it's story time arena, okay? Caz: Okay. Rhi: I was driving, I hit traffic lights and like I said, you all know I love Coronation Street. And so handbrakes up now, I'm just tapping along to music on my steering wheel and I've just gone, right, let's talk car-y. And as I'm driving, I'm thinking, right, I'm onto something here, so I've pulled over into the nearest street I could find, literally set my phone up in my holder, press play. It was like, I think it was a 10 minute video. I got down to like six minutes of just talking of the most recent things that's happened in Coronation Street. And then the next video I posted then was, right, let's talk Kari. That kind of like stuck. That's my little thing. And then, yeah, like you say, it's not big. We're on 1,400 followers, but I appreciate it. There's people out there with hundreds and thousands of followers and I did a thousand follower giveaway. just to say thank you to everybody. And one day I started going live and I can talk for Britain and it's quite strange just talking to yourself with people commenting. And Dawn joined, my Dawny Dee, and ever since then we've started talking every single day. Then Marna joined and Dylan joined and Becky and Ellie and we literally go from Wales, England, Scotland, Czech Republic. Laurie: Okay. All right. Rhi: That's where our little group's from. And yeah, it's it's stemmed from there really. So I just talk about Corrie, my weekly daily debriefs, anything funny that happens in my life that's Corrie related. I'll post it on there. And we've just gone from there. See where the rest goes. Caz: Yeah. Yeah. What what have you learned from it so far? I mean what has it taught you, if anything? Rhi: Things happen unexpectedly. Things, because I never ever in a million years thought I'd have somebody in Czech Republic who I talked to every day or Dawn who I didn't know lived in Treeharris who's only, I'm seeing her today actually, who's only 20 minutes down the road. And Laurie: Three hours. Rhi: yeah, that I'd create friendships like this in the matter of two months. I know that sounds really stupid, but it's crazy. It's crazy. Caz: It doesn't because well Laurie: No, well, bromance, unexpected bromance. Caz: yeah, if it wasn't if it wasn't for my TikTok channel, there is a no way I would have met L and L has been the most fantastic addition to my life I could ever have imagined. So I get it, I get it. You are Rhi: No, no, it's bizarre. the 15th... I don't blush. Laurie: I'm a blushing, I'm a blushing. Rhi: The 15th of August, we're all going on tour, I call it, so let's talk Corrie on tour. And yeah, that's going to be exciting. You'll see all of us together. So we've gone from these live streams that are wild to all in person, meeting for the first time. Caz: Yeah, so yeah, I was gonna ask you what's next. Obviously you'll you're you're going to the curry tour. yeah. Rhi: to again twice in one year. Caz: what do you mean? I've done it twice and I'm probably gonna do it another time. I Rhi: Should we make it three times? Should we make it three times? Caz: I am, I'm gonna go through I will have been by the end of this by the end of the year I would have been three times in a year. So, you know, it's fine. It's all good. Rhi: Wow. I'd to go for Christmas. think Christmas would be a good time of year to go. Laurie: yeah. Or in October, November time, so the set is dressed for Christmas. Caz: I mean I Yeah, you d yeah. Rhi: Yeah. Yeah. Laurie: Yeah. Rhi: Yeah. Caz: So I went in November last year for the I went for the one year anniversary of Don't Get Dressed. So I went on that Laurie: Hmm. Caz: that day thinking, ooh, maybe Vicky will be there. She wasn't. But anyway, that's not where I went. We went as a group and yeah, it was it wasn't decorated for Christmas at that point, so it would have to be early in that, wouldn't it? Probably mid mid October, mid to late October. Laurie: Hmm, yeah, potentially, Caz: There's a there's another person called Libby who does the Americans View of Coronation Street and she said to me, I was gonna ask you to come with me when I go and she's gonna be over here. She's coming over here to do the corridor and she said, you know, I was hoping you'd come with me and I'm like, Yeah, all right, I'll come with you. I don't I don't need an excuse. I just I'll Laurie: it. Rhi: Listen, you're more than Caz: just go. Rhi: welcome to join on to the 15th. More than welcome. More than Caz: we're in Rhi: merrier. Caz: my wife and I are gonna be in Manchester two weeks after that to go to Pride. But I'm trying to convince her to go to the to to the corridor. I don't again, which will mean the fourth time in the year. But I don't think she I don't think I'll manage to convince her. I mean Rhi: It'd be nice to go, I'm more looking forward to not only being with everybody, but when I went three weeks ago, I was so overwhelmed and overstimulated and trying to take it all in. I feel like I didn't look at everything properly. Like in the exhibition, the first thing I went for Laurie: Yeah, I thought about that. Yeah. Rhi: was Swala's wedding outfits. On the street, the first thing I went for was anything Swala related. So now I think going back and actually going around the back alleys and when you see the bridge, what's behind the bridge, I didn't do that. So I'm excited for that. I'm excited to see that. Caz: Right. In and out of the ginnel. Laurie: yeah. Rhi: Yeah, that's what I'll be doing. See where Theo went. That'll be what I'll do. Caz: yeah. great, great, okay, okay. Any other questions? Do you question L? Laurie: Well, yep, before we go, Rhi, tell us about your campaign, Welsh Harmony on the Cobbles. Rhi: What? my days! Don't get me started! So, we've got Adam Barlow who's Scottish. 90 % of that street is English. You've got the Driscolls who are Irish. I don't see a Cardiffian, a crazy Cardiffian anywhere. I want to see a Welsh family rock up onto the streets and just cause absolute chaos. The best possible chaos. Laurie: Yep. Rhi: So if anyone's looking, I'm more than happy to help. I think I'd be good in Corrie. Laurie: I'm right behind this. Caz: Okay. Laurie: I think like a Welsh Battersby sort of style family coming Rhi: Yeah. Laurie: in, like a bit rough and ready, very valleys, just to sort of cause a bit of chaos would be brilliant. Rhi: Like I know Gareth who plays Todd, he's from Pynarth, he's only from up the road. And I often see him in my local Tesco's doing his weekly food show. So he's Welsh, so we do have a sense of, Laurie: Yeah. Caz: You heard it here first, folks. Rhi: we do see a sense of Welsh on the street, it's not, you don't see somebody rock up with a card if you're an accent or a Strong Valleys accent do you? And I think we need that, we need that just to break it up a bit, you know? just to break it up. Caz: We should definitely petition Ruth Jones to be the head of that family. Rhi: Yeah, we need a Welsh family. So if anyone's looking, like I said, I'm here if you need me, okay? Whether Laurie: Yes, yes, yes, Caz: Yeah, I'm Rhi: that be an extra or... I'll be there. Caz: Okay. Noted, duly noted, as they would say. so if anyone from Coronation Street is listening, I doubt that very much. you never know, you never know where Laurie: Okay. Rhi: Don't know. Never know. Caz: where this will end up. Re, thank you so much for joining us. Stay where you are. Rhi: No worries. No worries. been my pleasure. Caz: Yeah, thanks. Thanks, Ree. Thanks for taking the time. Rhi: Okay. Caz: I love your channel. I think it's great. Rhi: Thank you. Caz: and I have joined your lives occasionally when I can. it is chaos. It utterly chaos. So Rhi: chaos. It is, because everyone's talking. You can't get a word in edgeways. Caz: if anybody likes that, i is it s do you still do you don't do it every day. Do you do it every day, your lives? No, no. Rhi: No, no, I try and do it bit earlier now, so I try and it's gone about half eight, given I'm not in work. Caz: Right. Yeah. Rhi: And it's just the best possible chaos I could have for my life. Caz: Yeah, so if you want to join the chaos, it's at Let's Talk Cory. Is that is that basically Rhi: Let's talk, Corey. Caz: yeah. And then you're also on X as well, is that? Rhi: X, Let's Talk Corrie. Instagram, as of last week, Let's Talk Corrie. We're on everywhere Caz: Yeah, just at Let's Talk Horror again. okay. Right. Awesome. Laurie: . Rhi: now. Caz: So just yeah, find Ree and and watch some of her stuff, which is always entertaining. And yeah, thank you so much for joining us. Rhi: Okay? My pleasure, like I said. Carianne: Then so thanks very much to Ree. we've got s a little bit of news, more of news about what Ree's up to at the end of today. but let's talk about spoilers. Jo: we've had a couple of couple of times recently where spoilers just so where the episodes are carefully constructed to leave ambiguity. So you don't know until the final reveal, like, Carianne: Yeah. Jo: is it Lisa? Is it Lisa or Betsy who's in hospital? Is it Gary or someone else Sarah who's being arrested? Is Gary's going to be arrested. And then I feel sorry for the writers and the actors who were all kind of like, and the directors, you know, carefully plotting these things. And then at some point, Cory promotions swan in. I'm just like, yeah, we'll nick that bit. And my writers were going, for fuck's sake. All that carefully constructed dialogue. And Carianne: Yeah, the PR team the PR team do seem to shoot themselves in the foot on a regular basis. Jo: Yes. Carianne: Yeah, they have been they have been getting it wrong a few times. Jo: Mm, yes. Carianne: and I think that battering, as I say, as I said earlier, the use of the words battered, Dylan, is probably a little bit over egging it. So Dylan gets knocked about about, Lauren behaves Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: shamefully, and Carla goes full on lioness, along with Lisa, no doubt, when she finds Betsy and Dylan getting cozy again. You know what happened last time, kids? Betsy still loves Dylan, right? Jo: Yes. Carianne: I still don't see it, but whatever. she doesn't want anything bad to happen to him, but every other fucker wants him brought down. Jo: Yeah. Carianne: And apparently someone is prepared to do that in the precinct. So Jo: But we don't know the reason yet. Carianne: we don't know the reason and we don't know who. Jo: Death. Carianne: I I find it hard to think that anyone in Betsy's tiny circle would be capable of doing that. Maybe Brodie, potentially. Jo: Yes. Carianne: but something else would have to happen for that to be Brody. Unless Jo: Yes. Carianne: Brody finds out that he went to visit Betsy and doesn't like it, potentially. But think you're more likely, as you said earlier, that it's gonna be the marshmallow thugs from a few weeks back. Jo: Yes. Yeah. I think it will be there. And I'm but I'm wondering if they'll go down the route of Dylan not identifying them because he's scared of them for some reason that there'll be retribution if he dosses Carianne: Yeah. Jo: in. And so he'll just say, I don't know I didn't recognise him, I don't know who it is. So he's not said who it is. That Carianne: he does say at one point that it's not Brody, though actually I've Jo: Okay. Carianne: just remembered he does say at one point that it's not. So sorry, co Karen. Jo: Okay. Right. But just then that leads to kind of opportunities for speculation as to who it is and for Sean to go around accusing people. Yes. yeah, yeah. Carianne: And for the PR team to spoil it all potentially Jo: So I'm expecting there to be some ambiguity as to who it is, but Carianne: Yeah, for a while. Jo: it will be those thugs and Dylan might be not identifying them because then it's just the story's done. Carianne: I mean it may be that they found out what he has done, potentially. I mean maybe there is some retribution there, but I don't know because they I I don't know. they were about as scary as an eight year old trying to get your pocket money. Seriously. poor Betsy. sorry. Ever Jo: That's probably that's probably still quite intimidating to Dylan though, I would have thought. Carianne: poor Betsy, I keep saying poor Betsy. I'm sorry, I shouldn't use the adjective all the time, but she's not having a great time of it. She has an accident because Lauren storms out after an argument. I mean, I I was gonna say who does that, but a 19-year-old who doesn't have the emotional maturity to deal with high emotions and caring duties at the same time. That's who does that. Jo: Yes. Carianne: So she leaves and Carla so so do we reckon that Carla is gonna go full scorched earth on her about this given Jo: Yes. Carianne: the reassurance you tried to give Jo: Yes, I think she yeah, I think she will. Carianne: Or is this just a massive exaggeration? Because I don't know, would Carla do that to Lauren? Jo: She might initially, yes. I mean look how she reacted to with Connie. when Yeah. So there will be an initial Carianne: Yeah, true. Overreacted. Jo: squad to earth policy. Carianne: Yeah. Jo: But then maybe she will rein it back a bit. I mean I'm assuming the argument is over Dylan, that that been round Dylan's Carianne: Yeah, the argument Lauren is still going on about pressing charges. I think. And that's that's why they argue. Because d Betsy's having none of it. Jo: Hmm. Yeah. Carianne: Lisa obviously finds out that Betsy and Dylan have been together. it's just it's just gonna be a mess, isn't it? Siena is gone. Jo: I can underst it's sorry, I was gonna say it's very difficult to see how the relationship survives. Carianne: Yeah. I yeah. Jo: Despite how much they may love each other, thing for them to be overcoming at that age. Carianne: The only way that this will survive is if Lisa fully forgives Dylan. And I don't think she ever will, because she's not going to want them in the house. It's going to cause friction. Jo: Yes. Carianne: It's going to cause so much friction anyway. Jo: Yes. Carianne: Betsy's going to want Dylan to be around. Dylan will possibly want to be around and help her. I mean the only way that this relationship can survive is is if Dylan steps right up in every aspect of Betsy's life and every aspect of her rehabilitation. Everything. Everything. Jo: Yes. Yes. Yes. Carianne: That's the only way. And I can't see Lisa wanting to have Dylan have that amount of exposure to Betsy. Jo: Yes. So Carianne: So we'll say. Jo: yeah. And I you can kinda completely get where she's coming from. It's completely understandable why she respects Pet's decision not to press charges, but she's going to hate with every fibre of her being because he is the person who did this to her to to her daughter. Carianne: Yeah. And at at some point I think some point Carlo is gonna have to step in and say, Lisa, if you continue to be like this, you're going to lose Betsy. I suspect that will be a dynamic that we will see. I have no Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: idea, but it's just a prediction. Jo: be interested if you could see that as well between Carla and Lauren. Carla being the voice of reason for Betsy to her mother. Or d Betsy's defend defender's the wrong word, but you know what I mean. advocate, that's the right word, to Lauren and Lisa. And particularly given Lauren's background I w like I Carianne: Yeah, so Jo: said, I would really like to see competition between Lauren and Carla but Yeah, whether that happens, I don't Carianne: Yeah. W Jo: know. Carianne: we'll we'll get a conversation, but I'm not sure it'll be that one. Jo: Yeah, but one that's not Carianne: Yeah, I know what you mean. Jo: Carla Herdinger out there out across the cobbles. Carianne: Yeah. I don't know. I I I I'm still on the fence about whether whether she really will, you know, go full full line s on her. I don't know. right, let's let's leave then. Sienna obviously she seems to be well ensconced in the street now. She's got a mum with dementia, Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: and she's wrestling with that. And Debbie sees that and gets a nasty shock, and she sees her Jo: Yeah. Carianne: future flash before her. Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: Cassie's going to work on the cruises Doing what? I've no idea But does she make it question mark? Jo: Starting production of Annie. Carianne: Don't know. Well he will Ross try to offer a I don't know that I think the spoilers are being Jo: I would just Carianne: overly dramatic again, probably, to be honest. Jo: Yeah, so d Ross what does Ross offer a lift or something? I don't I can't remember yeah. Though I what yeah you can't see her taking the lift voluntarily. Carianne: Yeah, officer left and or forces her to get in the car and then just disappears. I can't see it, no. Jo: yeah. whatever happens I hope they are not I would like it to be they don't off Cassie, that there is a way for her to come back. Carianne: I I think I I think that they should not do that. I think there should be a way for Claire to return if she wants to at some point. let's see. Jo: Yes, and that there is some retribued. Yes. Yes. Carianne: Retribution for Ross. Yes, retribution for Ross. Absolutely. and my favourite my favourite copper, Kit, proving once again that he's a total shit, and he's going to try and make out that Gary made Sarah hide the murder to try and reduce her sentence. So he's basically going to implicate Gary in all this. He enlists Bethany's help. and they actually in the spoilers they actually use these words. This isn't his first rodeo. And I'm like, really? Well It's stacy and bleeding obvious, isn't it? He's been known to plant evidence, white evidence, erased himself for a murder scene, tried to cover up his girlfriend's murdering tendencies, tried to frame others. This will come as no surprise to anybody. Yes, kidnapped and beat him up. Yeah. Jo: Didn't it kick up David at one point? And threaten him. Yeah. Carianne: Yep. all all of that, all of the above. Yes, of course, yeah. He Jo: But he's a good copper, remember. Carianne: cares. He cares. he cares about himself. That's about it. what a noxious piece of shit. Jo: just a maverick cop who doesn't like to play by the rules. Carianne: God Almighty. Jo: He Carianne: He thinks his Weatherfield's answer to lethal weapon. Jo: Okay. Carianne: God. Jesus. Anyway, so yeah, those are the spoilers. as such. we've got a little bit of feedback. we had a lovely email from Helen, who is a new Helen. We have had Helen's mentioned on here, but this was a new one. she thanked us for the podcast and told us a little bit about her life. which quite frankly was awful. which is why I'm not going to reveal what it was all about. But but she has managed to heal from an abusive marriage and it's and she wrote to us and said thank you so much for the podcast. And I want to just thank her for reaching out to us and just giving us a little bit about her story. it was very moving email and I'm so delighted that she's found the fandom and the podcast and also my TikTok videos apparently. So thank you so much, Helen, for for that lovely email. Do you wanna go and do some more? Jo? Kerry Kerry Jo: You carry on, it's your feedback. I'm just the I'm TB L here. Carianne: Kerry said another brilliant podcast, loved it, thank you. Another Helen said another enjoyable podcast, a perfect blend of important discussion with some humour to lighten the difficult week. This was the week that we were talking about Betsy's stroke, and it was really difficult Jo: Mm. Carianne: for us as well as everyone watching and listening. I love El's police perspective. You two are just very good company. that's nice, isn't it? And Jo: Very sweet of them. I'll apologize for this week again, then. Alright, carry on. Carianne: Stop it. and then we have Elle, not that L, another L. she said, I'm going home from Manchester after the Corrie tour, so this will be a lifesaver on a five-hour train journey home. Because of course, we cannot keep these things under three hour under three hours. and we're not going to today either. I hope you had a great time at the tour. Elle, you'd have to tell us all about it. right, fandom news. Fandom news. my goodness me. I don't think we're gonna go into the whys and wherefores, but let me just say that Vicky Myers was online earlier in the week and she completely broke the fandom. bless her heart, she knows how to deal with trolls. She can deal with trolls better than any of us. but also what what the fuck? Seriously, with the trolls? What? What Jo: Yes. Carianne: on earth? What on earth? Why does someone sit there and think that this is a good idea? I I can't Jo: This is how I choose my time on earth. Carianne: I can't get into the mindset of somebody who would think that that was okay to do. Wow. Just wow. Right, I'm not I'm gonna carry on. I'm not gonna we're not gonna dwell on that. But just Vicky, if you're listening, we think you're brilliant. Jo: Mm-hmm. Carianne: also talking about Vicky, her Secret Centre fundraiser is still on. Still collecting donations. They've got over ten grand now, which is amazing. and I know that let's talk Cory, so Rihanna. Jo: Do you know do you know when it's running, Till? Sorry. Do you know when it's running till? Carianne: think it goes to around November, mid-November. But I'm not entirely sure. I'm not 100% sure. So if anyone can tell us, we'll let you know in the next next one. But I think it's I think they close it like end of October, beginning of November. Jo: Okay. Carianne: so yeah, Let's talk Cory. Rihanna who we just spoke to earlier, she's doing a 24 hour live fundraiser, I believe. she's so I don't know what that's all gonna be about. I don't know what the details will be, but we will let you know as soon as we know anything about that, when it will be and all of that kind of stuff. So that will be on TikTok. She will do a TikTok live. Jo: So the fundraisers are Bloody hell. What cool? Like Carianne: sorry. It's officially called a 24 hour TikTok live. I don't know how it's going to work. I have no idea, but as soon as I know anything, she will let me know and I will let you know. I'm probably going to join in for some of it, Jo: Okay. Carianne: so so we'll see. voting closes on the 21st of August, however, for the Inside Soap Awards. So if you haven't voted yet, yeah, go and do that. vote for you can vote for Vicky Meiser's best actress, you can vote for Vicky and Allie as best partnership. I mean, come on, guys. And also, Ali for Soap Superstar, if you would like. Jo: Then and then clear your browser history and vote all over again. Carianne: Or vote from your Nan's iPad, whatever. and then some news which dropped yesterday. Sharon Marshall dropped some news yesterday. and Coronation Street are all over this as well. There is a new aspect to the Coronation Street experience. So Jo: For a limited time only, isn't it? Carianne: Yeah. Yes. it's for four weekends, so four Saturdays. I think starting on the fifteenth of August and running till the fifth of September, I believe. you will be allowed, you will put there will be a special tour for 20 people only in each tour to go and visit the Rovers set, the actual studio set. so for anybody that loves that kind of thing, I'm not sure if It includes meeting a star like the star tours do. I it doesn't mention that. So have a look on the Coronation Street website and yeah, if you want to go and do that, then I think it's 60 pounds per adult. Right, I think that's it, isn't it? Is that not it? I I think we've said everything we need to say. I need to now I need to Jo: I think we've finally said everything we need to say. And a lot of stuff we didn't need to. Carianne: now try to get this to run under three hours. So that'll be fun. right, okay. Joe, thank you so much. I believe I I believe Jo: You're welcome. Thank you for having me again. Carianne: Ellen I will see you in a couple of weeks, and it's been a pleasure to welcome you, Joe, and thank you so much for your help. And yeah, keep watching Jo: You're welcome. Carianne: Cory. And we'll see you next time. Bye!
