Carianne: Hello everyone and welcome to Beyond Swallow, a Coronation Street podcast. My God, don't things go utterly mad when we don't see Swallow. Welcome to Elle. Hello. How's your fortnight been? Well, we've talked, we have talked since then. Busy. Come on then. Come on then. Elle: Hello? Busy. Busy, busy. I have a boyfriend now. And, well, I Carianne: Do you? That's unexpected. Elle: yeah, I think, but he keeps love bombing me. So I think I'm gonna have to bin him off. So... Carianne: not bombing so early on, it's, you know. Elle: So, this is brilliant. There's some scammer on TikTok who's posing Carianne: Come on then. Elle: as Jacob Roberts and he keeps, he or she keeps messaging me. And I've not blocked him or her yet because it's brilliant entertainment value. And I can look forward to those little incessant messages of, my lovely, hello, hello, are you a fan? Can we talk repeat 20 times? And I'm like, dude, Carianne: Yeah. Elle: read the bloody room. I'm so gay. I couldn't be any gayer and I'm Carianne: you Elle: not about to switch sides for you, fake Jacob Roberts. So Carianne: you Elle: yeah, that's been my Fortnite. How's yours been? I don't think it, can you imagine if it was? Carianne: how do you know it's not? Well, there's been a, there's no, but there's also been, there's also been a scammer on TikTok recently. And I think they're pretending to be Sally Carmen and they've called themselves Sherry Anne. And this person has, I don't know how they've done it. I don't know. It could be AI, could be deep fake. It could be just taking clips from Sally Carmen and just like cutting them all together. But there's somebody who's trying to convince people that she is Sally Carman and that she's got onto Cameo and to say, saying, know, yeah, go onto Cameo and get me to send you a message. And of course she's not on Cameo. If you go onto Cameo and search Sally Carman, she's not on there. And I think it's just a massive scam. So yes, be warned out there listeners, are scammers about. Elle: It's crazy, crazy. Carianne: So we are recording this on Wednesday, the 26th of August, two days earlier than normal for two reasons. One is that we are 100 % totally done with the swollenness storylines and cannot imagine that Elle: Mmm. Carianne: there will be anything more worth discussing over the next two days. And two is that in order to bring this to you on schedule, because we try to be as consistent as possible. We have to record today because I am going gallivanting to Manchester Pride this weekend. And we'll talk about that later. We're also going to talk later a little bit about our lovely Dolly Parton who sadly died yesterday. And of course, we wouldn't be able to get a podcast out without mentioning her. So we will talk about that a little bit later. Okay. So in the coming weeks, we will have more Swala. Or maybe not. It's unconfirmed. We may just have Carla and Lisa separately. So we'll have more swallows to talk about next time, but so far on the fandom. So the fandom goes mad, right? When swallows Elle: This is so true! Carianne: are. They absolutely lose their minds. And so far, we have had Carla and Kit are having an affair Elle: course. Carianne: because of the night shoot rumours, which could absolutely be anything. People are wanting Lisa to get kidnapped or injured in some way. And they want the Elle: I guess. Carianne: night shoots to be Kit and Carla coming together to save her. I'm for that, I'm before that. We've got a rumor, or just spam basically, Lisa and D.I. Thompson share a kiss. Elle: know what, this is brilliant, right? There's an old saying in the police, which is join the force, get a divorce, because there are Carianne: You Elle: so many affairs. As you can imagine, you work long hours with people, you get closer Carianne: Yeah Elle: to people, you get closer to them than you do your family. So whilst this is a really ridiculous rumor, it kind of does happen in real life. So, didn't this come off the back of a hen doing Brighton as well? What the hell? It's brilliant. Carianne: Yeah, that's right. Yeah, yeah. There's a Hindu, a random Hindu. There was also some stuff about, you know, Carla getting fed up with Betsy being, you know, being too much trouble and taking her Elle: Gosh. Carianne: off somewhere and just leaving her there and coming home. And then Lisa asked where she is and Carla says, no, I don't know where she is. What the hell? What the actual hell? So, so you've got that. Yeah. And do you honestly think though, do you honestly think that Lisa would? would do anything with anybody apart from Carla, given that she spent four years not having any kind of romantic interest or affair with anybody when she was widowed. Elle: No, no, I mean, you know, yeah. Carianne: Right, okay, let's put that to bed. Elle: Becky's way in the side because that's just a whole different thing. But no, if it was just some Carianne: It is a hold'em. Elle: random on a night out, if they're on a hen do, in Brighton or whatever it is. No, my God. Carianne: and her boss, her boss. The last time we saw her interacting with her boss, she was rolling her eyes so hard that I thought they might fall out of her head. She's not, Elle: Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: she's not a big, I'm Thompson fan having said that. Elle: Mm-mm. Carianne: And of course we have the requisite rumors about Peter coming back, of course, because Elle: AHHHH Carianne: of course. Elle: I'm sorry, I do, I do, I do. if we're gonna create swallow drama, then do it that way. Like, I don't know. Carianne: Yeah, yeah, well, yeah, because we both know Carla's not going back. Certainly not for a third time. No way. Okay, so normally at this time we would have a Swala recap. For obvious reasons, we cannot do that because we had no Swala whatsoever in any of the episodes in the last two weeks. What we did have was a really big Lisa mention when Kit was behaving like a prize plank. We'll talk about that later. Bethany had called Lisa to check whether Kit was at the station and he wasn't. So what we decided to do, because we can't leave you swallowed us. I mean, really, we can't. So what we decided to do was talk about Proposal Gate. So this... This podcast didn't exist when Carla tried again unsuccessfully to propose to Lisa. The two Wardley and David Platt of it all totally ruining her chances of ever being able to do it. Betsy had to salvage even a shred of her mom's dignity and Lisa used the oldest trick in the book to catch Carla unawares, which I detested by the way. We'll talk about that. So are you on to chat about the proposal and all of those kinds of things Elle? Elle: do you know what? I didn't realise after speaking to you and Joe, actually, that there was so Carianne: Yeah. Elle: much discourse about how it came about, because I loved it. Yeah, there were a couple of cheesy, well, the actual proposal itself, there were very cheesy moments in there, but I really liked it. Carianne: It was an utter, utter cheese fest. And I think a lot of people loved that. I mean, why wouldn't they? So, you know, if you love cheese. Elle: Yeah. But obviously the build up to that, the pre-proposal episode which we're about to talk about, yeah, not too sure about that. Carianne: Well, I don't mind admitting that when we had, because we had two failed proposal attempts, of course. We Elle: Mm. Carianne: had had one a couple of weeks earlier in August when Carla had got the ring, Ryan had been chatting to her and she decided that she was going to do very traditional or whatever, cheesy, put the ring in the bottom of a champagne glass and give it to Lisa. Okay. Now that all completely went to shit. for so many reasons. One is that Debbie was a bitch. Two was that it turned out that Becky had proposed to Lisa. Becky had proposed to Lisa doing the same thing. It all came out. Becky got a mention. got upstaged by a dead woman, a dead woman in inverted commas. And Elle: Hmm. Carianne: it was all just horrible. And I absolutely lost my shit on X. Elle: Ha Carianne: And... Everyone thought I was completely deranged. I was just pointing out that I was treating Carla like a piece of shit. Elle: Mm. Carianne: And, you know, some not many people agreed with me. So I ended up deleting that post and, you know, crawling under back under a rock, which is where a lot of people thought I'd come from. Anyway, so Roll on two months, everyone on X is saying about how badly Carla is being treated. No one said Elle: Hmm. Carianne: a word. Anyway, I'm not bitter. Let's go. As is the way of social media. Elle: That is the way you social media in it, it's always the way. Yeah. Carianne: So we start. So Carla wants to propose again. And this time she's doing it differently. She's doing it at home. She's doing it nice and quietly. She's not doing it in the pub. She wants to do it at home, in the garden. And we get this beautiful scene. I mean, we get this terrible scene with David beforehand when he comes in with all of Betsy's parcels and he's wandering around the house sniffing candles. And I'm like, honestly, David, just fuck off. Fuck off. Elle: Yeah, it's quite funny. Carianne: But you just knew that that wouldn't be the end of the David saga. And Carla has a terrible... poker face, she's hilarious, isn't she? Because you know that something's up. we actually get Lisa at home. Don't we? I can't remember All the massive bags of stuff. Elle: Yes, because Carla comes in with the logs and all the rest of it and David comes in at the same time. Yeah, yeah, Carianne: just like, what are doing here? Kind of thing. It's like, wasn't her car outside? and she's very surreptitiously leaning back on the island to try to kind of shield the bags from her. And Lisa's like, what's in the bags? And yeah, Carl has to make something up, but she's making, she's so nervous. It's so sweet. And she kisses Lisa and she's like, catch me a little criminal. Yeah, this faction. Elle: Distraction techniques. Smart. Carianne: She's trying to get rid of Lisa in the nicest possible way. And with asking Betsy for her kind of blessing scene, we'd already seen that in spoilers like the week before, and it'd already been everywhere and everyone's all talking about it. And it's just like, it was so, so cute. Elle: I know. That Carianne: my God. Elle: was a lovely, lovely scene. Carianne: Aww, wasn't it? Wasn't it? Elle: I mean it was a bit naughty of Betsy to say, what if I say no? Because Carla's face, bless her. She's like, erm... Carianne: Yeah. But I honestly think that if Betsy had not said anything, Carla would be, OK, right, well, that's OK. You know, we'll work something out. I won't do it then. I honestly think that Carla's heart is so big that if she thought Elle: home. Yeah. Carianne: for a second that Betsy wasn't 100 % in, that she would have not done it. And I'm just like, my God, I'm glad that didn't happen. Elle: Yeah... Yeah. Carianne: So cute. And Carla Elle: was and was. Carianne: was just, honestly, I just, wanted to cry for her. She was so, she loves that kid so much, doesn't she? Even then, even then. Elle: And she, you she's never proposed to anyone before, let alone a woman. So this is all like, you know, yeah. Carianne: massively new. And at that point, she knows that Lisa has never proposed either. Elle: Yes! Yeah! Carianne: So yeah, and Ali King, what an acting masterclass because I know that scene was really short, but every expression, you could just see everything just playing Elle: Yeah. Carianne: across her face. And the hug that they give each other and Carla leans back on the sofa and takes Betsy with her and won't let her go. And it's just fucking hell. So cute. So cute. Elle: Yes, lovely. Carianne: Anyway, right. So then we move on. We've got this, whole garden is decorated. Elle: of the garden did you know they've got a pond? I know it's Carianne: Yeah know! With a little bridge! There's a little bridge as well! Elle: such a cute little pond we never get to see it! Carianne: We got to see a drone shot this week because we saw what we saw was Lucy in the garden and then Jodie in the garden. So they had to literally bridge the gap with number six's garden in the middle. And yeah, you get to see the whole garden. It's got this tiny little bridge that goes over the pond. like, okay. Elle: It's cute. Carianne: It's very not them, but clearly it was there beforehand. So, yeah. So Betsy decorates the whole garden for her. There's bunting and there's fairy lights and she looks at Carla's face and Carla is like so shocked that Betsy immediately says, you hate it. You hate it. It's Elle: Mm. Carianne: like, no, don't hate it. She loves it. But we get this first and only mention of Betsy calling her mama. Elle: Yes, and it's done in a jokingly way, but it is, yeah, Carianne: Yeah. Elle: again, it's another really sweet touch. Carianne: It really is. She said, we don't have secrets, mommy. And it's obviously a joke, but everyone was like, it's the first and only so far. She's never said it again. But Elle: See ya! Carianne: I wonder if she will ever one day. I don't think she will. I'm going to say now. I'm not sure she ever will. Elle: think Betsy will ever become a Conor Swain? Carianne: think she's more likely to change her surname to Connor Swain than she is to call Carla Mum, if I'm honest. Elle: Yeah, yeah that's what I thinking. That was a track I was thinking along, yeah. Carianne: mean, Swain is Lisa's name. Swain was Lisa's name. It was always Swain. Yes, Elle: Thank God it wasn't Becky's, right? Carianne: thank God. I don't think, well, I don't know. But yes. Elle: Was that retrofitted that bit because it was Becky Falconer, Carianne: I don't think so. Elle: wasn't it? And they always hit, you know. Carianne: Well, I always thought, I always kind of knew in my heart of hearts that Lisa was in a swain to start with, that she was born a swain because in, my gosh, I'm going to go back now to Christmas 2024. Elle: Bloody hell Cass, that memory of yours. Go on, yeah. Carianne: She was talking to Mason and he called her Mrs Swain and she said that's Miss Swain to you. Actually it's Detective Sergeant Swain but she also said it's Miss Swain and I'm thinking if she's a Miss and she's calling herself Swain that means that she was a Swain to start with. Right Elle: Got ya. Carianne: and then so I don't think they did wreck on it. I think she was a word to Swain. Anyway yeah I think I think Betsy may one day change her name to Conor Swain, but who knows? Who knows? So yeah, it's a very cute scene and it just shows the relationship between Betsy and Carla and how far that's come at that point. Yeah, it's great. Elle: Interesting, we got a little insight into Lisa's music taste as well as part of this scene, like heavy metal, Def Leppard, I was like, okay, okay, unexpected, but... Carianne: Would you call Def Lebbid heavy metal? Because I wouldn't. Elle: Well, it's kind of like 80s rock, isn't it? It's rock, yeah. Not heavy, heavy metal, but... Carianne: It's rock, isn't it? Isn't it rock? Because I would call probably things like Linkin Park, Black Sabbath, Metallica, I'd call heavy metal. Elle: Hmm? Carianne: Whereas Def Leppard, I'd probably err on the side of rock more. Anyway, Elle: Yeah, yeah. Carianne: it's either by, see, you can tell we are desperate for things to talk about. Yeah, so they're playing this music and David comes out because he's an absolute cock, right? And he's just, you know, always causing a problem and I hate him. Anyway, he turns up, he wanders through Shona's bras and knickers on the washing line and tells them to keep the noise down and Betsy's like, are you trying to have a nap, grandad? And Elle: haha Carianne: I'm like, well, I'd probably have a nap in the of the afternoon. I have been known to. Yeah, Elle: Nana nap, disco nap. Carianne: absolutely. But you already know that this is not going to be the last we see of him, don't you? It's going to be an absolute fucking asshole. Elle: You know what, these two episodes, and I think there's another episode where David was being a real arse to Swala for just Carianne: Yeah. Elle: no apparent reason, just being an arse and... Carianne: At beginning of the art class episode, he wanders down and he's thrown Elle: Yes! Yep. Carianne: all of their recycling that they put in his bin, or that Betsy put in his bin, all over the front lawn. I mean, that's a really passive aggressive thing to do. couldn't Elle: Mmm. Carianne: have just, at least he says it at the time, he couldn't have just had a word with us or anything like that. No, you just had to throw stuff around. And Elle: Yep. Carianne: the bin wars was the most tragic, tragic storyline. Elle: Ben Moore's. Carianne: The bin was and the dog log or the bark chart that was going on during all of that time. Anyway, Elle: yeah. Carianne: and I'm like, right, okay. It's basically saying to them, you're not having a party, you? Well, David, it's the middle of the fucking day. If they want to have a party in their garden, they are quite at liberty to do so. And Elle: They can do what they want, it's their house. Yeah! Carianne: basically also, that's not even David's house anymore because Audrey bought had to buy it. to save them from having to be homeless. So he's basically Elle: Hmm. Carianne: living in his grandma's house and he's like, what? I'm like, your neck in, wind your neck in. Elle: No. Carianne: my God, anyway. Right. So then we have this scene, this scene where Carla wants to propose and she tells Lisa to close her eyes and she's got her hands on her hips. A lot of discourse about that and guiding her down the steps and Elle: Really? Carianne: of course, you know, Carla touching Lisa's hips. It's very sexual. Whatever. Anyway, Carla's Elle: Okay. Okay. Carianne: nervous, really nervous and Lisa picks up on it straight away. She's like, you all right? Are you okay? She's, think, I think Carla wants to, I'm just looking at a picture actually. I'm just looking at a picture in my studio where I have got my hands on Vicky's hips. Elle: GAAA- Carianne: It's exactly like that. Anyway, she's got her hands over her eyes, she's got her hands over her hips, she's basically guiding her down the steps of the garden and she's telling Lisa like, don't peek, don't peek. It's so cute, honestly, it's so cute. Elle: You know what though, right? And this is going, we've talked about this loads of times now, how we think maybe Lisa has neurodivergent traits. And again, Carianne: Yeah, yeah. Elle: here's an example of, I think most neurotypical people would realize, okay, this is not, this seems a bit of a big celebration of us just settling into the house and being a couple of, what the hell is going on? Like there's music, there's lights, there's champagne. You know, we love each other. I think those cogs would start turning. I genuinely do, Carianne: Yeah. Elle: because it seems like such a fuss, just them. If it was a celebration of them moving in, then where's Betsy, where's Ryan, you know? It would, I think it would twig for a lot of people what was actually going on, but Lisa just completely... Did! Yeah. Carianne: It does call into question her detective skills. It really does. It does. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: But I suppose it was all very unexpected. And she takes Carla at her word. Carla says to her, this is why I'm doing it. So maybe there's a very much kind of like, OK, that's what we're doing. she is. Elle: And then Carla's so nervous though, like picking, like, again, I'm not neurotypical, but I would have picked up on the nerves and been like, what's really going on? Like, what have you done that's triggered all of this? What's going Carianne: Yeah, but Elle: on? Carianne: I mean, she does pick up on it because she keeps going, darling, is something happened? She she does say that at one point, doesn't she? If something happened, you know, and she is very, very nervous about the whole thing. But to to even by the end of the day after they had this really great row, she still hasn't picked up on it. Betsy literally has to spell it out to her. Elle: Yeah, yeah. Carianne: it's fun. And, you know, Carla's saying, you're worth it. And Lisa's like, shut up. She's always so self-deprecating. It's very cute. She's like, you're worth it. You are, you are. And the second one is just so soft when she said it. It's gorgeous. It's gorgeous. Anyway, basically this whole next kind of scene is Carla just being an absolute numpty. She's just, she's just. She can't get anything right. She's like, she's got it. She's got something in her head that she's like, I want it to be perfect. I want it to be this and my God, no, I've forgotten this and no, we should be sitting down. We should sit down. We should definitely sit down. And I'm like, my God, Carla, I just felt so, I was, I'm so in love with Carla Connor at that point. It's like, Elle: and yeah. Carianne: I can't, I remember when I proposed to my wife and... And she later said to me, I thought you were going to tell me that you didn't want to be with me anymore. Elle: it's the nerves. Yeah, I mean, I've got a similar proposal story and my nerves, I'm not, you know, when I get nervous, I can switch on job mode usually and I can override that and I'm fine. I can just sort of wing it. But yeah, I had to, it's a really long story. don't know if you want me to go in. Do you want to hear this? Do you want to hear the proposal story? Carianne: yeah, come on then. Come on. Elle: Okay, so I hired like the master suite at this really posh hotel that my ex-partner really, really liked. And it's overlooking this beautiful view of the gorge and there's a balcony and we had champ, we had the little hamper and how she didn't wait what was going on. I mean, she probably did, do you know what I mean? But as we went out onto sort of like the balcony bit, which is overlooking the gorge and the sun was setting, it was like perfect. It was like a movie. I looked across to my right. And there was a couple of boomers in the room next door out on the patio having a lovely time, getting quite quietly pissed. And I was like, shit, I thought this was going to be sort of like us on our own, whatever, whatever, whatever. So I had to like sort of think on my feet a little bit here. And I was like, how am going to do this? How am going to do this? So I sort walked just sort of out of the way so that the boomers were kind of out of shot, but they were sort of looking, because I think they knew what was about to happen as well. And I've got a really dodgy right knee, right? sort of, it happened as a... I've had the result of a violent arrest and it's always been a bit dodgy. So I faked my knee going. So I was like, You it was ridiculous. It was so hammy. And I sort of went down and she was like, you're all right, you're all right, you're all right. And I was like, yeah, yeah, my knee's just gone. And then I grabbed the box then and pulled it out and I was like, know, will you, will you marry me? But this was, it didn't go to plan. I was so bloody nervous. Like the nerves were going, thinking on my feet, boomer's watching it. And I was like, all right, okay, it is what it is, but. Yeah, that was my proposal. was a fake out knee injury. dear. Carianne: I didn't do, I did something, well, we were gonna go away. It was my wife's birthday. My wife's birthday is the 27th of February. Elle: Hmm. Carianne: And that year was a leap year. So of course, on the 29th of February, we were away and we just arrived at this log cabin in the forest. were having dinner and I was gonna propose to because it was the 29th, then it's called, you know, obviously. traditional for women to propose to their men. Obviously that wasn't the case, but I just thought, you know, it's the 29th, it's a leap year, I'll do it. And so we were just finished dinner and I said something like, I need to have a quite serious word with you. Elle: That does sound like, my, if you said, well, I'd be like, uh-oh, what, yeah. Carianne: I can't remember. I can't remember how I said it. I'm like, I can't remember. This was, my God, this was 11 years ago now. So I can't remember how I said it. Elle: you Carianne: But I didn't say, I did not say those words, but I did say something like, I want to talk about our future or something like that. And then I, but hold on, hold on, right? Elle: god, again! my god! Carianne: Why on earth would I break up with someone on the first night of a week's holiday with them? In a log cabin in the middle of the forest. Yeah, and I've Elle: in a log cabin in the middle of nowhere. Well, you might be a psycho, do you know what mean? Like, I brought you here to kill you. Carianne: got a spade and a roll of gaffer tape in the car just waiting Elle: my god! Yeah! Carianne: for you. No. Anyway, so I asked her if she'd marry me and she said yes. I gave her a ring. And then obviously a few days later, she said, I honestly thought that you were going to break out with me. I'm like, why would I bring you here to break up with you? Come on, I wouldn't have done that. I wouldn't have done Elle: yeah. Yeah, that's a point. Yeah. Carianne: that. I'm not that cruel. Anyway, so yeah, my proposal story. But yeah, honestly, God, the nerves, Anyway. Elle: Nerves, yeah, like nothing else. There's nothing else that compares to that. Like it feels like, I don't know, maybe backing school when you're just about to sit an exam, that sort of nerves you get just before and it's just, anxiety is just sort of building up inside you so much that your whole body feels like it's shaking. It's, Carianne: Yeah, because it's not just that day that you have to get through. It's like all of the weeks beforehand. Yeah, exactly. Anyway, and then Elle: Yeah, because yeah, you know what's about to happen and yeah. Anyway. Carianne: you're looking for signs and you're looking for, am I doing the right thing? God, don't want to hit that. I had doubts. I didn't have doubts. Elle: This story is getting very vercast. I was gonna break up with her in log cabin. Carianne: No, shut up. No, I was never going to break up with her. Right. so Carla is feeling very similar to us. I think she has got knots Elle: Mmm. Carianne: in her stomach and she, you know, she's just absolutely nervous. She can't do a thing right. Lisa is really kind of like what the hell's happening. She hasn't tweaked. and of course, she starts playing, is it sweet child of mine? I was playing guns and roses and I'm like, my God. Elle: was gonna say sweet child of a l... Carianne: And she's like, no, this won't do. And this is like, leave it, just leave it. She just wants to know what the hell's happening. And she still hasn't twigged. I'm sorry, what the hell? But then of course, David comes out and fucks the whole thing up basically. What an absolute totter he is. But I do have a few questions. I did have a few questions at the time Because he took the recycling out of their bin and put it all over their lawn again He seems to like doing that. But why was Elle: Mmm. Carianne: Carla putting the recycling in his bin? Why was she still doing that knowing was she just trying to antagonize him? Surely Anyway, Elle: Maybe, yeah, maybe. Carianne: it's such a point. It was such a pointless feud I lost days of my life that I'll never get back watching those scenes But then it does absolutely go tits up when Lisa finds this whole note about Tia Wardley in there and she doesn't believe Elle: Oof. Yeah. Carianne: Carla when she says it's old. I don't know. We get Lisa discovering this piece of paper with the awardee on it that Carla has clearly thrown in the bin. But I don't know why she moved it, right? I don't know why Carla moved that piece of paper with them when they moved, right? Elle: Hmm. Carianne: Why did it move from the old house? Because don't you go through paperwork, or is that just me? If I was to move house, every scrap of paperwork that I didn't need would go out at that point. If she had stuff like that, why would it still be there? So. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: I'm like either Carla's lying and it's not old, which I don't think is true because I don't think, I think it is meant to be old. Because I don't think Carla would lie about it. She was done with it, she was done with Tia, she'd drawn a line under it completely. she didn't give it another thought. So yeah, I don't know what you think about that whole thing. Yeah, absolutely. Elle: It's a plot device, isn't it? But yeah, I think you're right. I think you wouldn't keep an all bit of paper. You might make a note of it on your phone. That's what I tend to do. But I make a note of that in case I need that and then chuck away the physical copy of it. Yeah, just plot device, isn't it? Carianne: Yeah, but Lisa was really upset, of course. She gets up in arms about it, she comes inside and that's it. The moment is well and truly gone. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: There is no going back from that. Carla attempts to try to lighten the mood and she's got her hands on her hips again. She's folding her arms around Lisa's waist and she tries flirting. it's just nothing. It's just awful. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: Poor Carla. you know, she's really not had any luck with this whole proposal thing. just, at that point, I was so fed up. I just wanted Carla, I just wanted Carla to be able to propose to the woman that she loved. I just wanted her to propose. And I just, it was terrible. I mean. Elle: That episode, yeah, she was really put through the wringer. It was hard to watch, know, Carla Connor, this super Carianne: Really hard, yeah. Elle: confident woman to be like nervous and vulnerable in that moment, because she never is. She confronts it out. And then to have that double whammy then of having, you know, the argument with Lisa about it. was, yeah, it was hard. Carianne: Yeah, was, you know, Lisa completely overreacted. And I was like, she's supposed to have had counseling, isn't she? Elle: Mm. Carianne: This shouldn't, this kind of reaction shouldn't be happening now. But I don't know, she felt betrayed or whatever. It's still triggering her. shouldn't be. And Carla is completely, nicely shattered and heartbroken that she's not been able to propose and Lisa. just basically goes upstairs and stomps, sorry, stomps upstairs. It's a very good set of stairs to stomp up, isn't it? God, it just broke my heart. really did. Breaks my heart even a year later. just Betsy comes in and, know, Carla's just sitting at the island, looking at the champagne cork. She's looking at the champagne cork. And Lisa did that, obviously, at Christmas as well. Elle: Yes! Carianne: Different champagne cork, different champagne cork, but still, obviously it's a thing. Elle: which she kept and smelt when all that stuff was going on with it. It does look like it. When all that stuff was... Have a sniff, have a little sniff of that champagne cup when the whole Becky stuff was happening. Carianne: does. she does. Yeah, it was it was a it was her it was her comfort cork. Bless her bless her. Anyway, so yeah, Carla's equally comforted by the cork apparently. And Betsy comes in and she's like, have you done it? Have you done it? And she's so excited to hear all about it because she gives his car a hug from behind and, you know, and and and cause like, nah, and Betsy's like, is this where you tricked me into thinking that she said no? Elle: But yeah, yeah. Carianne: But you know, but then Betsy's like, well, hang on a minute, there's no way she would have said no, right? There's no way that she would Elle: Mm. Carianne: have said no. And Carla has to come clean and say that she didn't tell her, didn't ask her. And Betsy's like, what happened? Elle: David happened is what happened and then Tia Wardley happened. Yeah. Of course. Yep. Yep. Carianne: Yeah, but she couldn't tell her about Tia, so she just had to say about David. So of course it doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? But Betsy's like, I'm going upstairs now. I'm going to go and salvage the situation. Where is she? Where is she? And she's saying to go, go and propose, go and propose. Carla, poor Carla. Honestly, Elle: No. Carianne: she didn't have to go through the ringer during those weeks, really. Elle: Yep. Carianne: Honestly, don't know if it was fair. I know it provided a few laughs for some people. I didn't find it in the least Elle: That's it, Carianne: bit funny. Elle: it was there for comedy value, wasn't it? But it's hard when you see a character, yeah, put through the wringer for comedy value, because it's just sad when we care about a character so much, just like, Carianne: Well, we care about them both and we cared about them so much as a couple Elle: Yeah. Carianne: and I think, I mean, I certainly do. I thought to myself, this is really shitty representations. I just thought. It didn't have to be like this. It didn't Elle: Hmm. Carianne: have to be, but they chose for it to be. They chose for their first couple on the cobbles to go through that kind emotional turmoil. Elle: And that was just the start, but mm-hmm. Carianne: And yeah, well, that was just a start. Anyway, yeah, we've got Carla goes out, of course, she's probably going to lick her wounds at underworld, I would imagine. And she's already said, I can't imagine my life without her. And then she's thinking that Lisa really doesn't like her anymore. Like really Elle: Yeah. Carianne: doesn't like her. I wish I just I wished at the time that they would just stop it. Stop it. Stop doing that to them. And then we get this final scene with Betsy and her mum. Lisa's looking out the window waiting for Colin to get home and she's clearly regretting the argument, clearly, clearly regretting it. And maybe this is her therapy at work. I don't know. Elle: Mmm. Carianne: I don't know. don't know. Floyd is dodgy, right? Floyd, Floyd, the therapist was always a bit, I don't know. He always seemed a bit dodgy to me. I know what you think. Elle: Were you working with Costello though? Like actively, like it was, yeah it was... Carianne: Yeah, yeah, there was, there was, they never ever explained it because they never ever do. Elle: You Carianne: But, you know, I think I like to think that Costello wanted to keep an eye on Lisa to make sure that she had literally, figuratively buried Becky. Elle: Mmm. Carianne: And didn't because she didn't want he didn't want her asking any kind of questions because as we all know, we all know why he didn't want her asking any questions. So I think Floyd was kind of paramount in that as acting as a go-between between the two. Yeah, Lisa's therapy will leave that for another day. If ever, I don't think we'll ever talk about that. But Carla's gone, basically gone out to look for her. She's probably at work, as I say, licking her wounds. I mean, there are wounds to lick, but at least Lisa's got in it. She clearly wants to make things up. And she's basically saying she's worried that Carla won't ever come back. Elle: It's a, Yeah, but it's not that bigger argument really, because if you go back to the when Lisa shot Betsy, that argument, that looked like they were sort of breaking up, but this is a spat. I know it has other stuff underneath it, Carianne: I stopped, yeah. Yeah. Elle: but it's not, my Carla's not gonna break up with Lisa just because of this argument, so. Carianne: No, this is, so Carla is not gonna break up with Lisa because of this, of course not. But even just the fact that Lisa thinks that she might just plays into this, how insecure Lisa was about their whole relationship and how Elle: Yeah. Carianne: she didn't think she deserved Carla. Elle: home. Carianne: I think, I think that she couldn't believe her luck. I mean, none of us would be able to believe our luck, right? Elle: Well, yeah, to be fair. Carianne: Yeah, anyway, Betsy's like, what happened? And Lisa's like, nothing, you know. But Betsy turns 18 the week after as we found out early. She's not a child. And she refers to Carla and Lisa as her parents, which Elle: Hmm. Carianne: is great. Lisa's like, you when we bought a house together, we were on the same page. now she thinks that Carla's doing things behind her back and, you know, and they're not on the same page anymore. But that's absolutely not true. Elle: Mmm, yeah. Carianne: And Betsy's looking at her going, you are so thick. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: She's got this face on her as if to say, I could absolutely throttle you. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: just like, isn't it obvious? Is it not obvious what she's been trying to do? And Lisa looks at her as if to say, I have no idea what you're talking about. Is she buffering? She's buffering, isn't she? Elle: Yeah. Cheers, my friend. Carianne: Maybe the dawning will come at some point. And I'm really, am I pissed off that we didn't get to see it? Yeah, I am a bit. I would have loved to have seen Betsy go, do you realise what she was going to do? And Lisa's Elle: Yeah. Carianne: like, what do you mean? What do you mean? I would love to have seen it dawn on Lisa and then her to start thinking, you know. Elle: Mmm. Carianne: I think I said at the time before I'd seen the proposal episode that I thought that hope Lisa makes this completely heartfelt speech to Carla when she proposes. So let's let's talk about the Elle: you Carianne: proposal. But at that time, was absolutely sick and tired of seeing Carla just be battered. know, she, she, know, she she'd been through two, two failed proposals at that point. She'd made, you know, Corrie made a laughing stock of her. I wasn't happy about it. I made my feelings known. I got bashed for it. I don't care. And Lisa, what, so the next day, right, what didn't really work for me was this first scene. Because you're trying to tell me we're supposed to believe, right, that Lisa, The Lisa who was so worried that she'd blown things with Carla, looking out the window for Carla to come back, sending Betsy out to look for her. That Lisa kept up the argument when Carla got home, didn't apologize, Elle: Yeah. Carianne: went to bed that night and got through the whole of the early morning rituals without apologizing to Carla and then pretended that she was still pissed off with her and told her to go work. I don't, I just, Elle: No, it was super mean, wasn't it? Because Carla was Carianne: Yeah. Elle: already upset. Lisa knew at this point what Carla was trying to do and then carried it on for the sake of the surprise. think I would have gone about that a different way. Carianne: That scene is completely irredeemable to me and unforgivable. I'm sorry, I don't care what she was planning and how cheesy and romantic it was. That scene was nasty. Elle: Hmm Carianne: It's an old trope. It's tired and it's dull and it was unnecessarily harsh on Carla again. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: She's saying, us all a favor and go to work. What an absolute travesty. Ugh. Elle: even that phrase I'd be like excuse me what yeah yeah yeah Carianne: Yeah. This is Carla Connor at the end of the day. And the way she just flicks her, she flicks her chain of a handbag when she puts her handbag on and just walks us out. And I'm like, my God, I feel sorry for all of the workers in underworld that morning. Because she must have been on one, seriously on one. She's in a foul mood. She must be thinking, what the hell is going on? I didn't do anything wrong. And I'm being absolutely shut up by my girlfriend again. I just thought. OOOOWWWW Elle: Yeah, was, yeah, was not Carianne: you Elle: a nice scene to watch. Carianne: Okay. And, you know, we clearly realize, because of what she says to Ryan afterwards, that there is all the ruse, but I'm sorry, it still wasn't very nice. So Betsy's hanging up washing, completely unrealistic. But anyway, what teenager does that? She Elle: True. Carianne: sees her mum. We don't see her mum. She turns around and sees her mum. And obviously her mum's dressed up for the night or whatever. We don't see that. So it was an absolute cheese fest, right? Elle: was and I loved it. I know a Carianne: you Elle: lot of people didn't like it. I know a lot of people wanted it to be that small intimate just them proposal, but weirdly this is not Lisa at all. It's not, she's not the, you know, the big show. It's almost like the roles are reversed. That would be more Carla's thing. But it was Carla actually who wanted the small just the two of them intimate proposal. it's an interesting flip. And it was a bit of fan service because I think it's just like, let's just get Lisa in dress uniform, you know, with the hair shaking out of the bun and all the rest of it, know, officer and a gentleman sort of style thing. But let me tell you something, right? That dress uniform, any officer that wears it, it's not flattering. It's absolutely boiling because it's made of wool and it just doesn't fit particularly well. So, yeah. Carianne: Yeah, kudos to Vicky for pulling it off. Not literally, obviously. That was Carla's job. Elle: Yes. That was later. Carianne: I didn't like it to start with. It grew on me. It grew on me. Elle: Okay, yeah. Carianne: I think I was too furious about this thing before, if I'm honest. Elle: Yeah, yeah. Carianne: I felt it wasn't Lisa. But I watched it a lot of times and I cried. a lot of tears. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: And the things I absolutely loved about it were you got Betsy tossing the ring to Carla so that she could propose back almost. All of the yeses that Elle: Yeah. Carianne: Carla said and Lisa's one, just one yes. The exchange of rings and the rings themselves which was so perfectly perfect for them and their personalities. Elle: Mmm. Yeah. Carianne: And I'm going to talk about that in a minute. The kiss, my God. The kiss, which was so perfect, I'm never going to get over it, even a year later. The circling shot around the kiss and the way Elle: Yes, yeah. Carianne: that Carla held Lisa's face, which mirrored, don't get dressed and was so fucking perfect. The look heaven would, now the look heaven would to of Lisa's and she's done it a couple of times. Elle: You've talked about this before, yeah. Carianne: Yeah, now clearly, well, clearly at the time Lisa didn't know about what was about to turn up, who was about to turn up, maybe Elle: Mm. Carianne: what, you know. And I've always thought that when she looked heavenwards in any of these scenes that she was looking to Becky. Elle: Hmm. Carianne: I don't know that that's true. But that's kind of how I look at it. I kind of felt that it was Lisa looking to Becky and saying, thank you for giving her to me. I need to let you go. And I am letting you go. Elle: That's a nice way thinking about it. Carianne: I know I'm such a stupid, sopping romantic. Elle: Nah. Carianne: And then obviously the core fall at the end before the break. You know, that drone shot was perfect or that overhead shot was perfect. Did the four of them with the coronation suite and the cobbles. Just Elle: Yeah. Carianne: an absolutely awesome image. Elle: just jogging back to when they all sort of came out of the factory. Now me and you have done the Corrie tour, right? And we know, like the underworld steps are actually tiny. And like, excuse me, I still can't figure out how they Carianne: Tiny. Elle: got everybody on those and around those steps because they're tiny. You can fit like two people on them. Carianne: I don't know, they must have been really, really closely bunched together, I think. I think maybe. I don't think about those things. Yeah, Elle: Yeah, that's just me. Carianne: but none of those people were really, I mean, apart from you had Izzy, Kirk, Sally and Michael, but there were a lot of extras. were lot of extras. Exactly, Elle: They were, yeah. Who are these random people? Carianne: there were a lot of random people from the community. Elle: yeah the random people on the street that we never see like they're all just like this is this is lesbian proposal going on over there we'll just have a little look Carianne: that they're just a little bit like when we tried to do ours, but we were on couples tour and there were just random people standing around watching us. It was probably the same people to be honest. Elle: that's true. We had a bloody audience. my God. Yeah. Might be, yeah. Carianne: And then the rest of episode, go to see Roy. let's talk about the rings. Elle: Hmm Carianne: my god. OK, so this is what got me a lot, is that Carlos' ring is beautiful. It is beautiful, right? And it is a rock. It's Elle: It's massive. Carianne: not the kind of thing you go and buy at 6 o'clock on a Wednesday evening. so that you can propose to your girlfriend the next day. Elle: Hmm. Carianne: So my question is, did Lisa already have it? Elle: hey, that's a good point. Yeah, maybe. Maybe. Carianne: So don't forget, Lisa has already proposed to Carla once at that point. And I just wondered to myself, if through the whole buying a house thing, taking off her other ring, saying I'm all yours, she thought to herself, I need to, I'm gonna buy her a ring and I'm gonna propose at some point. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: It's just the ring. I have a ring, a similar ring to that. It's my mum's ring. and they had it specially made. It took Elle: Yeah. Carianne: weeks, it weeks, it cost a fortune and I'm like you don't just buy that from Elizabeth Duke at Argos do you? Elle: No, no, you're right. Carianne: You just don't. You just don't. And anyway, Carla's worth more than that, right? But it was absolutely perfectly Carla. And Lisa's ring is absolutely perfectly Lisa because Elle: Yeah. Carianne: in a police force, you can't have a massive wedge of a diamond like that. You can't have a massive Elle: It's just true. Yep. Carianne: rock on your hand. That's dangerous part of mending it. Elle: Mm-hmm. Carianne: So the simple band encrusted with diamonds, it's just perfect. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: It's a perfect choice for Lisa. She's quite understated. She doesn't wear a lot of jewelry. I don't know, they were just perfect. They were just perfect for each other. Just Elle: Yeah, I think so. Carianne: like the people who were wearing them are perfect for each other. Elle: Hmm. Carianne: excuse me. Anyway, so they go to Roy's and literally kind of, she just can't let her go, can she? Cannot let her go. She's all over her all the time. Elle: No, and of course, Carla has to go tell her dad first, obviously. You know. Carianne: Yeah, obviously. And they show her, show them the rings over a saucepan of beans. Elle: Yeah, it's a great shot that, really arty. Carianne: and Roy is going on and on about his glasses and he just knew at that point it's like why? Why? And of course we find out why. But yeah, Carla has literally become koala Carla. She's just literally wrapping Elle: Yeah. Carianne: herself around her around Betsy's mom like a big koala bear. Can't keep her hands, her body away from Lisa. She's kissing her hair. it's just, it's just so glorious. I can't help it. Elle: Mm. Carianne: It's absolutely gorgeous. anyway, and then Kit Green's there talking about the Elle: Yep. Carianne: Radcliffe's, the not interested, and then they go to the pub. And that's all of that. rest of the episode is just very much about them solidifying their place on the street, really. You Elle: Yeah. Carianne: know, you get you get all of the people congratulating them. And this is pre-Ben, it's pre the Driscoll's. So she still she still Elle: Yes, yes. Carianne: owns the Rovers. So, you know. But you've got Roy there, you've got Betsy there, you've got Ryan there, you've got Maria there. her found family. None of them are actually related by blood, but they're all, well, no, none of them are actually related by blood. I was gonna say Ryan, but it's not. And yet they're all there to celebrate with them both. It's just so lovely. just, where are Lisa's family? Where? No, no, come Elle: Don't start Kaz. Don't. No. alright. Carianne: on. Where are Lisa's family? Where are they? We're a year Elle: you know. Carianne: on and we have no clue, still no clue. We don't even know Lisa's birthday yet. We have no idea if she's got parents, if she's got siblings, if she's got nieces, nephews. I am so sick of the lack of knowing. I'm just. Sick of it now, sick of it. I'm gonna have to make it up. Elle: We know Lisa's got a sister, right? Carianne: Well, there's been parts in common to it, but it could have been Becky's sister, who knows? Elle: that's true. I did think sort of around the, well, we've talked about this around the wedding that we might see mum and dad swaying. I really did think that might be a possibility. Carianne: or at least a mention of them. Elle: Or a mention. Yeah. So I don't, the fact that we're not told that Lisa hasn't got parents, that they've passed or whatever. I don't know. I think because it's so quiet on that front, I just don't think it's a good relationship. It must be, right? Carianne: Yeah, it's got either either there is nothing to tell them they've decided that they're never going to say or it is a huge story that is going to come out at some point. I Elle: Maybe. Carianne: hope that that's the I hope that it is a huge story that comes out at some point because Lisa has already said when they split up and she thought she might go to jail. She said I have nobody that I trust. Elle: Yeah, yeah. Carianne: So it's not I have nobody. It's like there's nobody I trust. which clearly means that she has people, but she has nobody that she could trust worthily, leave Betsy with, or to trust them to a car. Elle: Maybe one or the other swains are on the wrong side of the law and that's why there's this distance. Carianne: Well, maybe one of them is in jail, has been in jail, was in jail, who knows? Elle: be a good story or someone ends up in the cells and Lisa's like that's my mum! Wouldn't that be good? So good. Carianne: So her mum is in jail for murdering her dad. Right. Elle: Huh? Carianne: Stop. Okay, but we get this. Elle: Get us on the storyline in Teen Corrie. We came up with some crackers. Carianne: Can you just get us on a true crime podcast or something? Elle: you Carianne: We've got some things to say. There was this weird scene with Costello as well in that episode saying, I'll deal with Swain myself. What the fuck was that about? Elle: In a very Graham from Emmerdale voice, I'll deal with Swain myself. Serena Costello was a right baddie at this point because of the gravelly voice. Yep. Yep. Carianne: He was, yeah, we definitely knew it. We definitely knew it. And then the foreshadowing. my God, the foreshadowing in that last scene. Are you happy? Never been happier. You? same. Saying it's been quite a journey, it's the destination that counts and we got there, my love. And with you by my side, we are indestructible. Elle: Well! Carianne: Yeah, and I was like, at that point I was like, yes, well, you better pee because there's a storm coming. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: The storm falconer. my God. Elle: I think that a lot of the fandom figured out by this point, hadn't they, Carianne: at that point. Elle: that it was Becky and she wasn't dead. So it wasn't a massive shock when that happened, but still it was, woof. Carianne: Yeah. But, but Carla kisses her outside their new house on the cobbles for the first house owned by a queer female couple in 65 years. And then they fade to credits as they walk in. I mean, it's just glorious. Elle: Mmm, aww. Carianne: Glorious. Glorious. Okay. So that was yeah, that was a year ago on the 3rd of September. And after anything after that between the 3rd of September and the 23rd of January, I don't want to talk about it. Apart from Corydale, obviously, which I'm happy to talk Shall we come back to the present? Well, Elle: do we have to? I want to go back to the glory days of Swallow and just stay there. Is that right? Carianne: no, Elle, my darling, we are time travelers, are we not? We keep fucking Elle: This is what I mean, this is true. Carianne: about with the timeline. So let's fuck about with it more and let's go back Elle: Okay, yeah. Carianne: to two weeks ago. Okay. Corrie recap, let's go. let's start with the So I'm gonna go on storylines rather than episodes because you know there'd be big chunks of storyline. One of one of the big chunks has been the Richie Rachel murder storyline. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: my god. Right, so last time we left them, Lucy and Lily had been taking lumps out of each other, but actually the only one that got lumps taken out of her was Jody. Hooray! and yeah, Lily wants to apologize to Lucy and writes her a letter. Elle: Yeah, this is all a bit, this is building to something, isn't it? Carianne: yeah, she Lucy is a loose canon. I I think taking this whole kind of this whole kind of storyline in one go. Jody is an antagonistic spoilt waste of human organs and she should never be anywhere near Lucy because she is far too unhinged. She's taunting Lucy while she's in the garden. and then Lucy is there's a problem with the pizza oven. She's antagonizing Joni. Sally and Tim, honestly. I think Sally and Tim are so out of their depth with Elle: Mmm. Carianne: this, is that they should never, ever, ever have been approved to be her foster parents. Ever in a million years. I mean, obviously, plot device, obviously for the storyline, but honestly, they haven't got a fucking clue how to deal with her. Elle: enough on their plate with all the other kids they're fostering, Carianne: Know. Elle: you know? Carianne: the the fact that Brody felt like he needed to move out, you Elle: Mm. Carianne: know, based on the fact that Lucy was moving in. It's like you did have three foster children to start with. Why on earth did you feel that you were going to be able to cope with another one? And not to Elle: Yeah. Carianne: mention just another one, but another one who was so severely traumatized I don't know. Just Lucy. Well today, there's a conversation, obviously there's a conversation with with that Lucy has with her dad, and Richie's saying just stick to the story. It's absolutely crystal clear now that everything that we thought was gonna look that happened has happened, and that it wasn't Richie that killed his wife, It was Lucy who killed her mum. And we don't know circumstances around that, but it's fairly obvious and has been fairly obvious from day one that that's the pro that's the issue. So but also we get we get this conversation where Tim feels, you know, obligated to tell her that it's his fault that that Richie went home. It's like Tim Elle: was weird. Why would you even say that? It's... why? Carianne: Why why would you say why would you come clean on something like that to a clearly traumatised child? Why Elle: Yeah. Carianne: would you say that? Tim, you know, not everything has to be said. You Elle: you Carianne: can just keep things to yourself for the greater good. It's just it was awful. Just like so, you know, because not only has he at some point and I can't remember when this was, at some point tried to assuage his guilt by saying that it was Sally who didn't want Richie in the house that prompted the whole thing. Elle: Hmm. Carianne: Right, and then I'm like, my god, Tim, just stop talking, stop talking. You're making everything so much worse. Elle: Yep. Carianne: And and that you know, and that there are conversations where it's like he he could be quite quite loving and quite understanding, and and he was great with with Will when Will was going through some stuff. But this is just he which which is why it makes me think he's that he's completely out of his death, he doesn't know what to do, he doesn't know how to handle her. You know, Lucy had a counsellor today. I mean, with with bereavement counselling, you're not allowed to have any for like six months. But clearly this is a different kind of counselling. But still, this is Cam's. This was Cam's counselling. Elle: Hmm. Do you think this is building towards Lucy maybe hurting or killing somebody else? Carianne: I am hurting someone, I'm not I wouldn't be at all surprised. Yeah. Even if you know, even if it's just potentially n not something that she planned, but she just strikes out in rage. 'Cause she clearly has an anger problem. She clearly has Elle: Yep. Carianne: an anger issue. She cannot keep that in. is probably what happened when when she killed her mum, I suspect. So who's to say that she isn't gonna lash out at somebody else? you know Elle: She doesn't seem that keen on Sal, does she? She's all right with Tim, but she's not, you know, there's been a couple of instances where they've had conversations where she sort of shuts Sally down and sort of then goes to Tim. So I wonder maybe that's. Carianne: Yeah. Well today she admitted today she admitted to the counsellor sh that she hates both of them. Hates both of them. And sh and Elle: Right, okay. Carianne: then she admits to her dad that she hates both of them and he says they're your best option at this point. So she's probably going to have to temper that down a bit, her hatred for them. I don't know why, you know, even the fact that she would use the word hate, because they're trying to do everything they can. And she's f okay, she's traumatized, right? But she but that doesn't give you a free pass to act like a dick. You know, people can be traumatized, they can be upset, they can be sad, they can be bereaved, they can be, you know, completely and utterly traumatized. But y y you still remember your upbringing, you still remember to be a nice person or a polite person and you don't throw popcorn all over your foster sister and and things like that. Which is Elle: Yeah, of course. Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: which is what she did today. yeah, I I I don't get it. I think I think this whole thing is going to be massive. There's going to be a massive blow up. I did say at one point, didn't I? That I wanted Lucy to become the next serial killer on the street. Elle: You did? Who knows? Who knows, maybe? Carianne: Maybe she will. How many do you have to kill to be a serial killer. Three? Is it three? Yeah, okay. Elle: I think it's three. Yeah, three's the magic number. Carianne: So she's already killed one, she's got two more left. I worry for Shanice 'cause she's only a little she's the only little mite, isn't she? Elle: Yeah, I wonder where this is going. Carianne: I worry that she'll get hurt in the in the crossfire. Okay, so yeah, Tim and Sally, that's that. Elle: Eeech. Carianne: Mmm, we'll see. So it is still rumbling on this Theo murder story. In in the guise Elle: Yeah. Carianne: in the guise of Sarah in prison, Harry being a complete nightmare, Kit being a twat of enormous proportions, Gary talking about. trial dates being set and all that kind of stuff. So so let's talk about Sarah. Elle: This is, I don't know, this prison storyline is a bit like, you know, I said ages ago, Sarah didn't finish the year off. There's gonna be a big twist coming for this. And I still kind of stand by that because I think that if Sarah was being written out of Corrie permanently, like she's gonna be found guilty and she's gonna serve life in prison, they wouldn't be doing all this prison stuff. I don't think it'd just be like a done deal. She's gone now, she's in prison. We might see the trial, but that's it. yeah, that sort of thing. But they're making Carianne: We'd see maybe visitations and stuff like visits that she'd have. Elle: too much of a deal of this for me to believe that this is how it's going to end. Because what's the point in that? Do you know what I mean? Carianne: She's gonna get off, isn't she? She's gonna get off on self defence or something, isn't she? Elle: Something's gonna happen. And you're right, it's either gonna be they managed to argue self-defense or something happens. There's new evidence that comes to light and it turns out that somebody else finished the off in the end. I don't know, this is gonna play out as we know now for at least the next eight weeks, because they've just filmed the trial, haven't they? So that's gonna be broadcast if it's filmed in sequence, October time? Carianne: Six weeks time, six weeks, eight weeks. Yeah. Yeah. Elle: 60s, something like that. So we're gonna see more and more of these sort of prison scenes, which seem a bit filler for the coming weeks. Carianne: I mean I did enjoy the fact that Sarah stood up to Casey and said, You seem to forget that I'm in here for murder. That was great. Elle: I was gonna say, yeah, I did actually do that, Mrs. Yeah, I did kill someone, so, you know, watch yourself. So, I don't know. I don't find the prison scenes particularly entertaining. I much prefer the Carianne: It just seems Elle: prison scenes where Debbie was in prison. I love those. Debbie and Lou was great, because Lou was great. Yeah, we love Lou, yeah. Carianne: Well, 'cause Lou was great, wasn't she? And Debbie was great as well. Sarah just seems to be moping around and she spends all of her time on the phone to various people going, I love you, I miss you, Elle: Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: talk to you soon and I'm just like, that's that's not interesting to me. I I I Elle: Yeah. Carianne: don't care I don't care about those conversations. I mean Elle: Well, yeah. Carianne: that the whole but that the whole thing let's talk about Kit then. The whole thing about the fact that he can't cope with Harry. So he just goes, well It's like, I'm just I'm just gonna fuck off. I'm just gonna sit in my car all day moping around and ignoring everyone's phone calls. And does that found sound familiar to you? Did he or did he not do this at a certain rem memorial service? Elle: Hmmmm Carianne: because he couldn't cope and he didn't know what to do. He's a complete and utter man child. Elle: Yeah, he needs to learn how to cope with big emotions and big life stuff, which, you know, for a police Carianne: Mm-hmm. Elle: officer is interesting because he can't, you know. Carianne: It's like if you can't do it, fine. If you can't deal with a traumatized ten year old because you want to literally regress to a ten year old yourself, then don't because there are plenty of other people who will look after Harry for you. But you keep saying, No, I'll do it, I'll do it, and it's because you want to keep in the good books with with Sarah. But actually, just leave, get out of her flat, stop being a house guest that's overstayed his welcome. You know, Bethany, Adam and the Plats have all got this and and and then he tells Sarah that he's not gonna help her. Even though he's as bent as a bottle of crisps. Elle: And you know, Sarah could be in real, real danger. And I know that she's broken up with him to try and protect him. But if you really did love her, he, you know. Carianne: He's not exactly her ride or die, is he? He's not when you think Elle: No, is it. Yeah. Carianne: about the other couple that we are here for, Elle: Mm-hmm. Carianne: I can't imagine for a single second either of them just basically going, Well that's career suicide, I'm not doing it. Elle: Well, that's it. We know Lisa is straight down the middle, isn't she? But if Carla was in prison and she was in danger and she was like, look, can you try and sort something? Then she's going to try and do it, it? We saw Lisa do that with the whole kidney gates. Absolutely. Carianne: Yeah. With the whole rock thing. Yeah. Elle: She bent the rules for Carla. You know, so. Carianne: Yep. To get to save Carla Carla's life. And yeah, so Kit is just a shit. He's just Elle: Mm-hmm. Carianne: a shit. And then the next scene, you know, the next scenes we get are that he's saying, I'm a terrible dad, and you know, I'm like, Yeah, you are, you are a terrible dad. You are a terrible Elle: Haha. Carianne: dad. And as if we needed more proof of that, he fails again when Brody comes to him and asks to move in. Elle: I was just cruel. Like what? You know. Carianne: It's like for a start, okay, Brody for a start, it's not his flat, but even so. He's Harry has vacated it, his room. Brody could have had that room for a few weeks or whatever. Kit just doesn't want to deal with anything that involves him having any responsibility for anything. He's Elle: Yeah. Carianne: just he just he just wants to relinquish any kind of responsibility at all. But I d I d honestly I did love the com on the conversation with kit and Adam in the pub when Gemma is over overhearing it all and you know Adam and Kit are just literally having a pissing contest. I don't know. But Gemma's like I'm invested now and he and she comes up with some pearls of wisdom and then who is it? Is it Alia that says to her you should have a podcast Elle: hahahaha Carianne: and Gemma goes, you know That's not the first time I've heard that. And then Elle: Haha. Carianne: and and I'm like, yeah, I could I'd listen to a podcast with Gemma God. But honestly, yeah, Kit was just a disgrace. U an utter disgrace this week. Elle: it goes back to what we were talking about, what, I think it was in the last pod, like what does Sarah actually see in him? If this is the measure of the man, when things get tough, what, you know, yeah, absolutely. Carianne: He's falling very well short, isn't he? Falling very short. considering he's bent, considering he has made evidence disappear in the past, with the Joel Deering case, he has tried to make evidence disappear in Sarah's case, but now he's like, No, no, it's career suicide. It's like Where does the where where is the line, Kit? Because I'd love to know I would Elle: Where's the line? I was gonna say, where is the line? Yeah, yeah. Carianne: I would love to know where does he mythically draw this line that's like yeah yeah well I'll do that and I'll do that but I won't do that. So w Elle: Yeah. Carianne: what I I'd love to know. I'd love to know. my Elle: Mm. Carianne: god. my god. So then then we have Todd. Elle: Do know what? I said this on the last pod. I'm like, if we get this sanctimonious little shit come back from Thailand, he can bugger off back to Thailand. And what do we get? my Carianne: Thanks to my little shit. Elle: God. Todd? No. No. I can't, can't, Carianne: Absolutely not. Elle: I can't. This is the, you know, this is very much the old, selfish, self-centered, jumped up little shit Todd of years ago. Carianne: Yeah, years ago. Yeah. Elle: has come back and I'm like, just, I don't want to watch this. I don't want to see this, you know? Carianne: Well, I you know, he's been an absolute shit, but he has given us some amazing Mary scenes. Elle: True, that is true. Carianne: Now you haven't seen today's. I urge you to watch it. I urge you to watch it. I will talk about it though. but I clearly love the fact that he's he's crept into the house in the middle of the night. No one knew he was coming home, even though George and Christina were meant to be going to Somerset the next day and he was supposed to be taking over at Shuttleworth, so they must have known he was coming, right? Elle: Yeah. Yeah. Carianne: But Mary catching him in the shower and him coming downstairs and just manspreading all over the sofa and Mary surreptitiously passing the the pillow. Elle: yeah. That was very funny. Carianne: the cushion over to him so he could cover himself up or just but then but then that's it. He just starts making trouble. He just starts making trouble for Christina telling George about the spending that she'd been doing. But he but I don't know if if you caught this, but he's seen her with one parcel right before he went on holiday. And as far as we know, from that point she hasn't bought anything else. So him trying to make out that she's still doing it is kind of a bit I don't know, it doesn't ring true. Cause him trouble for the sake of it. which which he gets the response that I don't know if that's what he wanted, but he gets the response that that George basically says he's going to Somerset without her. I'm like, George, do you know that you know that she's a good one? Or is she? I don't know. Is she is she? I I s I still don't know. Jory's still out. She's lovely. I Elle: Well, yeah. Yes, Carianne: actually love her as a character. Elle: yeah. Carianne: I I think she's brilliant and she was brilliant today. but Todd just gets worse, of course. He then then shits from a great height onto Glenda. I'm sorry what what? Elle: I know. not Glenda. Come on. Carianne: Of all the people, she was so excited to have this date with Frasier and fine, he's gay. It doesn't whatever, it doesn't matter. Maybe they would have been really good friends. But Todd Elle: Yeah, yeah. Carianne: basically just shat on her and did the cruelest, nastiest, most Elle: It was cruel, yeah. Carianne: disgusting, disrespectful thing to her, and she looked so sad, she just looked absolutely heartbroken by it all. I I They better get her a Boyfriend, girlfriend, day friend, whatever. R Elle: You Carianne: something. Somebody that she can be with and have go on dates with. She Elle: Yeah, she deserves it. Yeah. Carianne: really, really does. my god, and then you know, yesterday, was it yester no, Monday, whatever. Bernie, before we find out that Bernie is is is this woman's niece. This woman I'm not even gonna talk about, but she feels the same way about this woman as the rest of the fan does. Elle: Mmmhmm. Carianne: And both Christina and Bernie giving Todd a few home truths, which he will completely ignore and be a complete nuttercock for a good few weeks yet. Elle: It's, you know, I know it was an awful domestic abuse relationship that he had with Theo, but let's not forget, like his husband was murdered a few months ago and now he's randomly shagging about? just, hmm. Carianne: I don't want to cast aspersions on male homosexuals, but is it a gay thing? Elle: don't know. you know, certainly I wouldn't be in the headspace regardless of, to be doing that. Carianne: No. And it looks like he'd probably been doing it all the way he'd probably been shagging his way all through Thailand as well, by the sounds of it. Yeah. Elle: Maybe. Yeah, maybe. Carianne: You know, if you can't be with the one you love, shag the one you're with. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: God, sorry. But yeah, this so this Todd line is gonna is gonna run and run and run. we've got that character who we don't want to talk about, and talking about Dolly Parton today, and that wasn't great. That was not great. So yeah, I Elle: No, it's really... Carianne: mean Cory obviously won't know, but still kicking her teeth to be honest. So right, ready to move on? Let's talk about Idris and his terrible ideas and zero integrity. Elle: Yeah, this is, we knew from the get-go that Idris is a bit of a wrong-on and he's Carianne: Yeah. Elle: kind of now really starting to show his true colours, right? Carianne: He reminds me a bit of Delboy, but a nastier version. Yeah. Elle: What a nasty one. Yeah. Carianne: So i this illegal poker game, I mean, can we can we f can we just briefly talk about the fact that three that that Kit Green apparently has three grand that he can just lose at an illegal poker game? Elle: And as if the other sort Carianne: Three quick. Elle: of gangsters, Fiona and the rest of the baddies, I'd be like, sure, let a cop join. He's a bit bent, so that's fine. Yeah, of course. Carianne: We Yeah. Yeah I would be so far out of there you wouldn't see me for dust my god maybe he should buy some balls and some integrity with it instead of wasting it on those losers But anyway Elle: Mmmmm Carianne: ri Leanne lending you money It's like run for your life Leanne What is wrong with you? You are so bad at choosing men so bad Elle: they've only been together like five minutes as well. Like, you give them a Carianne: What I Elle: sum of money in that time, you just think, you don't really know this guy yet, Leanne, so, you know, pull back a bit. Carianne: and then it just is like, Yeah, but I'll pay you back with interest, so it's okay. It's like, No, it's not okay, it's not okay. Elle: Mmmmm Carianne: But God, can anyone does anyone does anyone really believe that Ollie was a card shop? Really? Really? Elle: this is hilarious. Like, where did that come from? That's just like a bolt onto a character. Just like, yeah, we'll make him an awesome poker player. Yeah. Carianne: I'll make him really good at cards. Yeah. Yeah. And and we'll put Lauren and Brody there. They're you know, Brody's underage. He shouldn't be serving drinks anyway. but let's make him drunk because his dad's a complete tosser. And and let's have Idris basically assault him. Elle: Yeah, I mean, yeah, that was coming, wasn't it? Like I said, sort of the whole, you know, villain mask sort of slips a little bit with Idris. But I did love Lauren in those scenes. think she was great. Proper Lauren, proper giving it sort of mousy. Yeah, Carianne: yeah. Gob on a stick. Yep. Elle: exactly. Any scene with her in, brilliant. Carianne: She really was good. She really was good. When she's not, you know, leaving Betsy to piss herself. She's great. Elle: There is that, yes. Carianne: and this Fiona, I don't know. I I don't know how I feel about Fiona. I equally want to smash her face in and watch as she burns down everything Idris owns at the same time. I'm kind of like it's the Gemini in me. It's like I wanna see both. I wanna I don't like her, but if she's gonna bring down Idris then I'm I'm happy. I'm happy about that. Elle: What end though? Do you know what is this building to some sort of awful showdown in a few months with something really awful happens because of this? Do you know what I mean? Like it feels like that might Carianne: Well I don't think Fiona like Fiona is clearly a gangster or whatever in the retic commons. She's whatever. lipstick gangster, shall we call her? I don't know. Elle: Well, this is it. You don't see many female sort of, well, unless you watch like Top Boy and there's quite a lot of female sort of gangsters in that. Carianne: Or you watch anything that's been written by Or you watch anything that's been written by Martina Cole. Elle: gangsters in that. Yeah, female gangsters. Carianne: she she does she does really good female kind of p protagonists, isn't she? yeah, now now Ronnie's in on it and she's got him got Ronnie it you know, with his hands behind behind tied behind his back and God. Elle: do you know what I've got to say, right? And it started to irritate me a little bit. Like all the men in Corrie at the moment, bar maybe one or two, are awful, Carianne: Yeah. Elle: are turning into like proper morally gray, even past that point characters. They're giving them all this nasty sting in the tail. And I'm like, what, can't we just have one, Carianne: Yeah. Elle: one nice male character? They do exist, Corrie, you know. How think, Roy, Ryan, Brian maybe. There's not many, there? That you can just say, actually, they're quite nice. There's no agenda. They can't be turned to Carianne: Yeah. Elle: the dark side. Yeah, all the managers are all falling it at the moment. They're all awful. Carianne: Yeah, and even the boys, you know, we've got Harry being an absolute twit. Elle: Yeah? Carianne: We've got Jake Windows today being my god, such a cock. yeah, yeah, they're making making you know, they're making the boys, you know, the the the kids, you know, be detestable as well, like and Brody and and people like that. I don't know. I mean, yeah. But today, I mean today Brian has disgraced himself by sleeping with Maggie. Elle: Yeah, that was interesting. Carianne: But we've got some really great scenes. I I'll I'll So yeah, we have Brian sleeping with Maggie. It's it's funny, but it's also like I found it really found it really strange that that not well not strange, but Lauren's like, yeah and I'm like people over sixty still do it, actually Lauren. Elle: Yeah, yeah Carianne: You'd be surprised. People over sixty still do it. They still do it. Elle: Still got it. Carianne: I dunno. but man, Maggie and Brian. Shall we call them Braggie? It's is that their ship name? Braggie. Elle: Ooh, I like that! Braggy. Yep, braggy. Carianne: my god. but but yeah, when he walks into the pub and he's got this beautiful bouquet of flowers and Maggie's basically dissing him. And I'm like, you can't be surprised because Maggie's always been a bit of a bitch. You know? Elle: It's an interesting, like, how did that even come about? They're so mismatched. Carianne: Didn't? Elle: And again, sort of that works sometimes, but Annie Anne Bryan's a bit boring, do you know what mean? Like, Maggie's quite feisty and there's an interesting backstory there because she's off to her husband. Carianne: Yeah. Elle: So it's just, yeah, a bit of a mismatch, but it's played for comic value, isn't it? Carianne: And I don't know. Yeah, it was it was for comedy value. They they spent a couple of episodes like last week talking about their favourite suites and things and I'm like, Really? Is is that supposed to make us feel like they're connected in some way? I don't know. Elle: Kat, come on, if this was Swell talking about their favourite sweets you'd be gushing. You'd like... Carianne: That is true. That is true. I can't believe I can't believe that they Elle: was so perfect, was so lovely, they talked about palmar violets. You Carianne: I can't believe that they bonded over a Cabrias Freddo. You know, yeah, I would be. You're right, I would be. Elle: I love a Freddo. Yum, Carianne: Yeah, you're right, you're right, I would be I would be I would be saying it was the cutest, flirtiest thing ever. You're right, you're right. my god, I feel so called out. I'm so called out. Fine, fine. Elle: There you go, there you go. It comes to something when I'm keeping you in line, mate. Carianne: They're fantastic, the two of them. Braggie, let's hear it from Braggie. Hashtag Braggie. Braggie Forever. Right, okay. Elle: Bucky for a bit. Carianne: yeah, and then we've got Ollie attacking Jake because Jake's been a complete twat, and we won't talk about that because it's pretty boring. But I think he gets arrested. I think Ollie gets arrested sometime over the next couple of days. Nina, so Nina. disappeared and I thought to myself, hang on, has she gone? Is was that her was that her farewell that we never got? And then Elle: yeah, you said, yeah, yeah. Carianne: I realised I realised because of spoilers, which we'll talk about in a minute. was that she's not. She's she's going officially on Sunday. So we've got we've missed an episode this week, which was Tuesday because of football or something. So we've got an extra episode on Sunday. So I think that's when Nina leaves. and a lot of people saying I can't believe that Carla is not going to be there to see Nina leave. Elle: Well, it's interesting because she became part of the Conor Swain sort of little collective, didn't she? Because obviously Carianne: Yeah. Elle: Roy and her stayed at their house while boys burned to the ground, but didn't. So there is that... Carianne: And it was also it was also Nina that kind of talked to Betsy after she'd been shot and told her, Elle: Yeah, yeah. Carianne: you know, how lovely it must be for her mum to to have found a love like Carla. don't get me started. Elle: Hmm. Carianne: and, you know, making Betsy kind of realise actually, yes, maybe I you know, have been a bit unfair. so yeah, i it it would be nice actually also if if any of the Connor Swains were there to say goodbye to Nina, but they won't be. Elle: because they're an Ibiza. Carianne: Because Okay. Elle: It's interesting how they're just like, she's going to Whitby, like, you know, the goth homeland. It's just like a gay character being like, I'm off to Brighton, I'm going back to the homeland. It's just, Carianne: Ha ha. Elle: because that's all the goths living with Bea and all the goths aspire to go to Whitby, of course. Carianne: I I've never been to Whitby but actually I'm not I'm not sure I want to go. Mind you, if there's an independent art gallery there and I believe the fish and chips are good, so I I'd be fine, I'd probably be good. Elle: Is the lesbian equivalent of Hebdenbridge right? So if a lesbian character's like, I'm off, it'd be Hebdenbridge, right? Carianne: Is it? What are you trying to say? I'm going to have the root Elle: Says everything mate, says everything. There you go. Carianne: I can't afford to live in Hampton Bridge. Elle: I've never been. Carianne: How how dare you? It's it's lovely there. No, it's lovely. Elle: I know I've seen that on telly but I've not actually... Carianne: when Lou and I move up there you can come and visit. Right. Okay. Elle: Yeah, it's the blocks of gay women there. Is that actually a thing? it Carianne: Well Elle: Hebdenbridge? Is it quite a lot of gay, is the gay women community there quite a substantial one? Carianne: I I mean having spent like two days there I can't really tell you, but yes, I think so. it is well, it is very LGBTQ friendly, I think that's kind of it. Elle: Right. Carianne: they have their own pride parade and everything's very gay friendly, there's pride flags everywhere, and it's you know, yes, I believe it is quite it's a safe space for Elle: Hmm. Carianne: LGBTQ community. Any more on other curry things? Elle: think so. think we had a poker game which lasted, how many episodes that was? We had a darts game in the Rovers. And I was thinking, you know, Carianne: my gosh. The darts game. Elle: what's next? Is it going to be curling at like prima donna or something? it going Carianne: Ha ha ha. Elle: to the sports? Completely off tangent, but do remember when Emmerdale had a bit of a darts league going and they completely forgot about it? Yeah. I think this, Carianne: Yeah, yeah. Hmm. Elle: yeah, car is just like we need to up our game, like pub games. What can we think of? Carianne: But I I actually did like the the rovers when there were a few more people in it, you know, when they had this craft beer thing. And Elle: Yeah Carianne: although that was a vehicle to just piss Ollie off basically, and that Elle: Mmm. Carianne: influencer, I would have smacked him in his mouth several times. I I did like to see the pub full and and just have a little bit of liveliness around it and you know, everyone behind the bar having a good old laugh and stuff like that. It was quite Elle: It is nice when they fill those scenes and it feels like a real pub when there's all different characters sort of interacting and stuff. But you Carianne: Yeah. Yeah. Elle: know, that influencer, if we take, like this is not Coronation Street, you know, the street that we all know that's viewed by millions and whatever, but that influencer has gone to like this small community and weather fields to Carianne: Ha ha. Elle: post. That doesn't make any sense at all, really. Carianne: He was supposed to be going to Speed Doll, wasn't he? He was supposed to be going to Speed Doll. And so Elle: That's like someone going to my local takeaway and being like, hi, I'm an influencer, like come and eat heat, like, be like, you know. Carianne: But they do that. Influences, have you never seen these stories where influencer says, If I've got a hundred thousand followers, if you give me a free meal, I will influence for you and I'll tell you that I've eaten there and it's gorgeous Elle: Yeah, that's true. I guess that's true. Carianne: and if I'll get a free meal out of it. So maybe when I get to a hundred thousand followers on TikTok, maybe I'll start doing that. I'll go to my local Chippy and say, Do you want me to Do you want me to tell you? Elle: Can I some chips for free? Carianne: Do I yeah do you want me to tell everybody who some of which p you know, full disclosure some of my my followers are in Australia and and the United States. But you know, do you want me to tell them how good your chips are? Because if you do, I'll take a free portion of chips from you and I'll just post it. Elle: Yeah, yeah, yep. Carianne: You see, that's what they do. That's what they do. my gosh. Anyway, right. anything else? I don't think so. nothing of consequence anyway. would normally have an interview, but instead I'm going to talk about Manchester Pride because I want to. So I'm going to Manchester Pride at the weekend. And obviously now, because Dolly Partner's died, I am expecting to hear many, many, many Dolly Parton tunes. Elle: No. Carianne: Being played around the place. I think I think it's only right, don't you think? Elle: Yeah. Carianne: so Manchester Pride has been around since 1985. So it's not that actually that old, so 41 years. it started as a community fundraiser and it featured jumble sale and a gay pub and club Olympics outside Elle: Aww. Carianne: the Rembrandt Hotel, and it was backed by a £1,700 grant from Manchester City Council and It has now evolved into a massive annual celebration supporting HLV and AIDS courses, which is awesome. yeah, so it started in nineteen eighty-five with fun events like the canal boat race Elle: Hmm. Carianne: and tug of war, judged by local drag creens to raise money for AIDS charities. Now, of course, when it started in 1985, the AIDS epidemic was rife everywhere, wasn't it? It was it really was. but by nineteen ninety-one It was rebranded as the Manchester Mardi Gras and ex expanded into a major carnival that raised thousands of pounds for HRV. So so yeah, so I I am going to Manchester Pride. I I had a look at all of the acts that are playing, right? It becomes a live venue, Elle: Bye. Carianne: live live music venue. Canal Street and environments become a live music venue. Because they issue you with wristbands and you have to pay to go and so that's why they can kind of do that. I'm sorry to say there is not a single act playing there this year, apart from wait for it, Gareth Gates, who I recognise. but I don't care. I will be with my lovely wife and a friend and we will have a great time. I love music, I love drinking, so Elle: Who is the, who's the headliner then? Carianne: It's a very good question. Nadine Coyle on Saturday night. Yeah, girls of love. Yeah. So I do I Elle: okay, girls allowed. Yeah, that's pretty cool. Carianne: do recognise her. So Nadine Coyle on the on the Friday, on the Saturday is Gareth Gates, and on the Sunday is Cascada and Kate Nash. And Elle: Kaskada! Back in the day dance tunes, woohoo! Carianne: So yeah. Mmm and Adam Ricket Yeah, Elle: Chari reference, nice. Carianne: exactly. And apparently so Coronation Street are going to have a presence there, on the at the parade, I'm assuming. So who knows what will happen. Who knows what might happen? Elle: all is now becoming clear. Okay, guys, okay. Carianne: No, I did I I didn't know at the time that they were going to have some some of the people there. I don't know who they're gonna have there and it doesn't really matter. but apparently some people from Cory might pitch up. So that would be nice. I'll get I might get some selfies. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: I might get some selfies with some of the people from there. So yeah. Have you ever been to a Pride parade? So Elle: I have, yeah. Carianne: tell me about that. Elle: So I did London years ago. I think I must've been in my twenties and it was a bit... So I've been fully out, fully out since I was about 23. So if I went to university and was just like, you know what? I can't live this secret anymore. So I'm just going be out and proud. So I was quite young when I went to my first proper big Pride and good grief. I was so overwhelmed. Carianne: Ha ha ha ha ha. Elle: by all of it, because London Pride is something else. It is just Carianne: Yeah, it is massive. Elle: huge. I mean, I had a great time, but it was just, it felt like there was so much going on and so much to do and so much to see. it was just, yeah, it was really, really full, really enjoyed it full on. I did Cardiff Pride. Cardiff Pride is a good one. feels, that's getting bigger, but that feels a lot more sort of local. So that's always a good one to do. I was going to do Brighton this year, but sort of... things got in the way. But again, Brighton's another massive one, isn't it? They did Brighton a few years ago and that was, woof, lots going on Carianne: Yeah. Elle: there. But I can imagine, I've never done Manchester Pride, but I can imagine that's going be very similar. It's quite a big pride and loads and loads going on. But it's so nice to be in the majority. Like you feel Carianne: Yeah. Elle: safe because you're with your community. It's just... God, I always cry when I see the parade as well. Everyone I've gone through, when I see people marching, I've marched them in, I've marched in uniform before, sort of to our city's pride when I did that. And then Carianne: Right, right. Mm. Elle: they were like, no, please in pride because apparently you can't be gay and please and support pride. they banned us, which was nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah, really, really. It was really sad because there was, there's Carianne: U. Elle: loads of us. Imagine, it's the police force. It's gonna be a large part of the community that police the community. Yeah, but they said no police in price. So that was that. No, it was a political thing. It was political thing. Yeah. And I'm like, guys, Carianne: Was that a safety thing or just just because they are homophobes? my gosh. Wow, okay. Elle: we are you. We are the community. This is our job. We're there for you as well as being members of the community. yeah. Yeah. Carianne: Yeah. Hmm, interesting. I've been to London Pride a couple of times. The first time I went was in the eighties. And we I basically made health packs. So I I remember sitting with friends of mine making up these little packs of AIDS, leaflets, dental dams, condoms and something else I can't remember. But we we Elle: Loop? Carianne: made these packs to g to give out I don't know. Elle: There's always lube in this pack. No matter what it is, it could be like a fairy cake and you'll have some lube on the side. That's what Pride's Carianne: Ha ha ha Elle: all about. Carianne: And I'm yeah, and I just we just made all these packs up and we just distributed them to anybody at the Pride Parade. Elle: No. Carianne: It's yeah, and the last time I went was maybe I don't know, seven or eight years ago now. it's just huge. It's just i honestly, we we we were at the front of the parade, which was lovely, which were sorry, we were at the front looking at the parade, we weren't in the parade. but I I've never been handed so many bracelets and lanyards and Elle: Ugh. Carianne: pin badges and sweets and stuff like that just being thrown off the top of open top buses. It was it's such good fun. It really good is good fun. So I'm really looking forward to it. and as I say I expect to hear a lot of Dolly Parton this weekend. A lot. We do. Elle: Aww, and maybe a lot of drag Dolly Parton as well. Carianne: Yeah, gosh D'll be yeah. So so if you are going to Magister Pride and you do see me there if you know what I look like, then just come say hi. Anyway, Elle: Nah. Carianne: that's that. shall we talk about spoilers for next week? Elle: Yeah! Carianne: Well so we have been in a swallow drought it seems like about six years. It's not clearly it's Elle: Gosh, yeah. Carianne: not. the last time we saw Lisa and Carla together Was when Betsy came home. Elle: was 2000 and 20... Carianne: It's like it's like guess the year. It's like a music quiz. Guess guess the year. I think it was four weeks ago on Friday. Four weeks on Friday would be the lot would have been the last time we saw them. Elle: Good grief, is this the biggest smile-o-drake we've ever had? okay. Feels like it. Carianne: No. No. No, because we saw we saw Lisa and Carla separately after that. The biggest swallow drought we've had, I think, since they got together, was April 2025, when it was 26 days or something. Elle: live. Why was that? Carianne: With without them at all. Without without seeing either of them. anyway, this isn't quite as bad, but it seems worse. Because I'm not sure I can't guarantee that we're actually gonna get swallowed scenes this week coming because no. Elle: He doesn't look like Kate, does he? Carianne: They're certainly swallowed are not you know, Lisa and Carla are not referred to in any of the spoilers together. Elle: Mm. Carianne: Lisa is referred to when Betsy talks to her about feeling lonely, during this Lauren and Betsy and Ollie storyline. and there's no mention of Carla at all. So potentially we might not get them together. We certainly I don't think we'll get them together alone. But if we do, what a joy that will be. What an absolute joy that will be. It will. Elle: It'll be... It'll be a nice little surprise if it does happen, yeah. Carianne: It will. So yeah, Betsy's feeling you know, but Betsy has a a milestone, she reaches a milestone, she manages to stand. I She admits to being lonely. I don't know if that prompts Lisa to invite Lauren round or to say that Lauren can come round because we're still kind of in this no man's land where we don't actually know what's happened in that household it Elle: Yeah. Carianne: between Betsy and Carla and Lisa and Lauren and Dylan. We don't know. There's no mention of Dylan at all. Elle: Mm. Carianne: So I'm like, well, clearly Lisa is there when Lauren pitches up with Ollie, as we've seen a photograph. That so have have they started listening to Betsy and what she needs? You know, Betsy clearly feels that she can talk to Lisa about feeling lonely. So I'm I'm hoping that you know there's there's some communication going on. It looks like there probably is now, but it would have been nice to see some of that, anyway. So Lauren takes her out to the bistro, Betsy drops some cutlery, and Debbie. makes a joke about her being drunk because she's forgotten that Betsy had a stroke. Elle: Yeah, that's... Carianne: so we've got Debbie Debbie on a downward spiral, I think, that this week coming. Elle: It sounds, yeah, it does sound like sort of Debbie's dementia is sort of stepped up a notch, isn't it? It's progressed again, which is very sad. Carianne: think she turns up at the hotel in her slippers. She forgets that she works at the hotel and thinks it is a hairdresser and tries to go to Elle: home. Carianne: the salon and so I I I think it's wrapped up quite a bit. Ronnie gets very worried about it all and and she's got a birthday coming up and they they staunch the birthday celebrations. dear poor old Debbie I dunno I don't know what to think about it. I don't know what to think about it. So Nina leaves, she does leave. We don't get to see Carla say goodbye as we've discussed. I very much doubt that we do, because this was originally Friday's episode. So it would have Elle: Right. Yeah. Carianne: been from this week, so no. Todd obviously witnesses the death of this woman and it starts drinking too much and being a pain in everyone's arse. He's going on a downward spiral as well. Elle: fantastic, I can't wait, I can't wait. More of these Todd scenes please, Corey, I'm loving it. Carianne: it's just we're going to I'm gonna rename Coronation Street Misery Street, I think. 'Cause everybody Elle: You Carianne: is struggling and this has been going on for weeks where everybody is struggling. I mean you Elle: Yep. Carianne: get some light hearted bits, but for the most part, isn't it just really gloomy? Elle: Yeah, it's not fucking EastEnders, come on Cory! Carianne: I don't know what to make of it. I really don't. I really Elle: No. Carianne: don't. I'm I'm so tired of moaning about it, if I'm honest. I I don't want to have to moan about it anyway, so I'm not going to moan about it. So Shona, so we get we get this storyline with Shona and Jodie. my gosh. So Inside Slope have described Jodie as a bunny boiler. I do not see her as a bunny boiler. I see her more as a mosquito. One of these th one of these annoying little things that Buzz around your head and occasionally give you a nasty bite. until I actually see a boiled bunny anywhere near number eight. I'm sorry, I'm going to refer to Jodie as a waste of space. she Elle: It's... Carianne: hides the car keys so Shona can't get the baby out of the car or something like that. And I'm like, I don't know, I don't know. Jodie is just as I say, she's just an annoying little mosquito buzzing around. Elle: She is, but if you think about sort of like the ridiculously, you know, scorching weather we've been having to leave a baby in a car, that could have been really serious. Do you know what Carianne: Yeah. Elle: I mean? It's just, she doesn't think she's very reactive to situations. She Carianne: Yes. Elle: doesn't think things through. And we've said this before, like, let's get to the crux of this, Corrie. What is going on with her? What is this building to? Because this middling, annoying ground that we're in at the moment, it's just wearing really thin, right? Carianne: It is, it really is. we said before that she's an opportunist. So she Elle: Yeah. Carianne: clearly saw, sees Harper in the car, she sees Shona being distracted, so she takes the keys thinking, yeah, you know, I can I can make some mischief. But that's all it is really. It's mischief. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: And and what the hell is all of this? She she gets community service for what she did to Sarah. Community service Elle: No, I mean, it's an ADHD, so I can't imagine that's what would have happened. It probably would have been a suspended sentence, I would have thought. But, yeah. Carianne: It would have been it would have been the same as what Carla should have got. Elle: What? Yeah, but you know. Carianne: And Carla got community service, didn't she? So we don't care. We don't we don't care. Elle: Yeah, but we love Carla, so that's fine. So we don't care. We can let that one lie, yeah. yeah. and do you know what? It's weird how, like, obviously we know that she whacked Sarah over the head, but there's no like, Jodie, you shouldn't have done that. That's a really awful thing to have done. Like, do you know what I mean? It's just, she did that, okay. Carianne: I I don't know, Jodie's one of those she's she's like Teflon, isn't she? She really Elle: Yes. Yeah. Carianne: is. So she can wheedle her way out of anything. She can lie her way out of anything, and everyone who seems to have any kind of interactions with her is so thick that they can't see it. And one of those people is Kit this week. So Kit gets Elle: Weird, it? Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Oof. Carianne: convinced to go on a date with Jodie. I don't give a flying fuck about this. He's got over his great love of Sarah fast enough, hasn't he? Elle: is it? Like, again, how strong was that relationship in the first place that he's just like, I'm, you know, Carianne: my god. Elle: I'm flip-flopping now because I'm, you know, being a man-child. I just, it's so odd. Carianne: And you know you know how crude I was on TikTok yesterday. You know how crude I was. Elle: Yes, I do. Yes. Carianne: She she's willing to date the man who had a fling with her sister. Elle: Yeah. Carianne: I mean, you know, Elle: Thanks. Carianne: I'm sorry, that's so disg I I don't know. It's it's it's a soap, it's a soap carry Ann. It's a soap, it's a soap. I have to keep reminding myself. my god, right. okay. and there's a big secret that gets revealed, something to do with Bernie when this woman dies, so we'll see what happens then. I don't care. I I might care about the Bernie side of it. and as I say Elle: Isn't, well, I know we're not going to talk about that storyline in depth because we've agreed not to do that for reasons we've explained before, but Celeste was a twin of Bernie's mum, right? That's the storyline. So just Carianne: Yeah, apparently. Yeah. Elle: quickly touching on that. Is it possible? You ain't my mother. Yes, I am. Do we think it's that was her real mum, Bernie's real mum or? Because then Carianne: Ooooo maybe. Elle: that's going to cut deep, isn't it? Otherwise, why put that story in for? weeks or however long it's been, Carianne: Yeah. Elle: what could that bomb possibly be? Carianne: Ooh. Yeah, maybe. Yeah, maybe. Mm. Elle: Maybe, Moving on, don't give that airtime, let's go. Carianne: No, let's go. no, that's it. And there's no swallow. I I don't know. I don't know what I'm gonna do with myself. Elle: Do know what, I'd like to think that because obviously Ali's coming up to 20 years now in December, that they're building towards a really good storyline and that's maybe why they're not on screen so much now, because they're gonna get a lot, know, like we said before, Soaps are Cyclic will concentrate on maybe like six, 10 characters or whatever, and then for a few months and then they move them aside and they go back to, maybe that's what's going on. So think positively, this drought is awful, Carianne: Yeah. Elle: maybe we're getting something good. Carianne: Well, we know that they're together in the courtroom in six weeks. That's about Elle: That's stupid as that face that yeah Carianne: that's about it. I don't know what we're gonna talk about if we don't get any sualo again. no, I know what we're gonna talk about. no, we're not gonna talk about that. Right, no. Elle: Ha ha! Carianne: we might talk about that. Shall we? Shall we? Shall we talk about that? Elle: That's what you're talking about, Kaz. Carianne: Okay. So we don't get any swallow next week we don't think. Elle: Hmm. Carianne: yes, so listen to us, Cory, right? This is just a warning. Just a warning. If we don't have any swallow to talk about in the next few weeks, we'll have to talk about what was happening this time last year. And believe me, nobody wants to talk about that. Or Elle: That's touchy! Carianne: we could talk about what happens this time next year because We are, after all, time travellers. Right, okay. Elle: There we go, there we go. Carianne: Shall we do some feedback? Alright Elle: Yeah, let's do feedback. Carianne: then. Do you want to take some? Elle: Yeah, so thank you very much for everybody who's been in touch again. We love to hear your comments. So, Meehl on TikTok says, I absolutely love your videos. You are hilarious. Thank you very much. think so too. okay. Carianne: She was talking to me, but you know, whatever. Elle: I'm not hilarious. Thanks, Meehl. Thanks. Thanks. Carianne: Ha ha ha. Elle: I look forward to them every day. I also love your podcast. Thank you for being so real. Thank you, Meehl. Carianne: Morphia O three on Instagram said I just finished this episode, which was the last episode. it's always a pleasure to listen to you really and I'm totally with you. The art class episode was a delight. wasn't it just So she said they have said, sorry, about the merch subject which we we talked about last week. Yes. Either way, only the logo or something with the puppets, I'd wear a t shirt. Elle: Okay, good to know. Carianne: Now unfortunately she was the only one that said anything about it. So we Elle: Majority rule? Carianne: you never know, Morpheo, we might just make one just for you. Who knows? We might just do that. Elle: there we go. And then we've got, L, not me on TikTok says. Carianne: El Ali's out as she's out she's our number one fan, I think. Definitely. Elle: She used to be coming, yeah, becoming a super fan. She says, really miss our girls, talking about Swala, but made up for it with a podcast. Another amazing episode, ladies. Thank you, Elle. Carianne: And pedestrian at best. Now I've had a chat with Pedestrian at Best about the fact that she doesn't agree with us. How dare she? She didn't think that Lisa or Brody were written inconsistently, which was interesting, and I did have a chat with her about it. but I think that it must mean that they're a Cory writer, because it's the only explanation I can think of. Elle: A secret Cory writers infiltrated Carianne: All right. Elle: our little podcast. Carianne: She's not. She's not a Cory writer. Elle: Hmm Carianne: but yeah, so so she and I talked about it. And the the fact is is that we said that Brody was written inconsistently because in one breath he said that he wasn't a fan of violence against women and the next time we spoke about it, Dylan was saying that he had been bragging about the fact that he had, but the thing is is that I so pedestrian at best basically said Which I which I had to agree with, is that Brody doesn't see it or didn't see it at the time that he was bragging to Dylan as as violence because it's become so mainstream in that age bracket. And that he didn't he was just lucky, that he hadn't caused the stroke, but because he thought that Dylan had, that it was somehow different, which it wasn't. Anyway. Elle: And then lastly, we have Alex on TikTok. She was talking to Kaz about going through a rough patch and said that she really enjoys listening to the Beyond Swala podcast. Carianne: Thanks, Alex. so shall we move on to some fandom news? So, Elle: Yes, let's do that. Carianne: as usual, Vicky broke the internet. she was at the Peace Hall in Halifax, which is up on up in Calderdale, which is a beautiful part of the world. she was looking beautiful and she had some beautiful words to to say about the Swala fans and about the music that she was listening to, and the fact that she has never seen Madness Live. So if you find out to anybody that Madness are coming to your town, make sure you let her know because I'm sure she would go. Vicki, I hope you enjoyed Heaven 17, Holly Johnson and ABC. she was at that concert at the Peace Hall. And my wife and I have tried to go to these concerts at the Peace Hall and we've never actually managed it. But when we live there, we will definitely be going. Elle: Hmm. Carianne: let's talk Cory. let's talk Cory. which is Rihanna who we've spoken to. They Elle: Hee hee. Carianne: went on a road trip to Manchester. my god. They looked like they had a ball. They really did. They hung out with Yeah. Yeah. Elle: It was the most surreal thing I've ever seen. You've got a Valleys crew coming up from South Wales and then this Coronation Street actors there. It just blew my mind. Yeah, yeah. Carianne: But they had people from Scotland and from the Czech Republic and you know, so so they had all these people and then they mu they ran into Sam, who plays Adam, Mikey who plays Gary, and Beth who played Megan. They saw Sue Devaney on the tour. They got a little video from Amy Robbins as well, who plays Christina. and I think they saw other people as well when they were hanging around the gates. So hanging around the gates is a is a thing now. I think I think they've they've let people back to do that. So it looked like a lot of fun. And I've talked to a couple of people who were there and they said it was absolutely amazing. So good for you guys. I hope you had a brilliant, brilliant time. So they are so let's talk Cory or Rihanna has is still doing this 24 hour live thing that she's got planned. We don't know when it's gonna be, but whenever we do, we'll let you know. And also Dawn, who I interviewed a couple of weeks a couple of podcasts ago, she runs a business and she's doing fundraisers for the Secret Santa Hamper. and that's what the 24 hour live is for as well. So Secret Santa Hamper as well hit their 25 grand target and we were all like, yay, they've hit their target. That was amazing, Elle: Wow, yep. Carianne: it's amazing. And then they upped their target to 30 grand. And I'm like, good on you, come on, good on you girls. I think I think they hit like £30,500 last year. So if we can top that That would be amazing. I Elle: Yeah, it's gonna happen, it'll happen. Smash it. Carianne: come on, come on girls, come on everyone. Just dig deep. And if you do, if you I don't know if everybody gets this. I'm assuming everyone gets this, you get a thank you message from Vicky via email. Now I Elle: Aww. Carianne: don't know if everyone does, but I have. I so I'm assuming everyone does, which is lovely. Right, just a little bit of other news. apparently some of you do want Beyond Swallow to go visual. Elle: Really? I'm gonna have to start doing my hair and everything though. Actually, it's not too bad today, but it's usually like Carianne: I don't know. I'm not sure. I'm not sure that the world is ready to see us on YouTube yet. Or what maybe what we've maybe what we can do is we can do a few snippets on TikTok and see how it goes down first. Yeah. Elle: that sensible yeah but also I guess the visual side of it you you might see the stuff we cut which is equally hilarious I'd argue Carianne: Ha ha. Elle: sometimes a bit rude yeah the uncensored bits Carianne: Stay tuned. I d I we don't need to uncensor it. We don't sorry, we don't need to give them the uncensored bits just because we're doing you know, visuals. I I will I will edit it so that it still remains PG, kinda. Whatever, Elle: Eee... Kinda. Carianne: anyway. Okay, so the last bit of news is coming up on the podcast. The really good news is that you won't have to wait another fortnight for the next podcast. Hooray! So I'm going on holiday. I am going on holiday. How dare I? How dare I? Elle: I know, dear listeners, she is leaving me! She's retaliating Carianne: I Elle: for my Cornwall trip. So she's Carianne: Yeah. Elle: off. Carianne: However however I am only going for six whole days, not fourteen days, which is what you deserted me for, you cow. Elle: Listen, listen, right? I had to learn how to surf. you know, it takes time, takes time. Carianne: Look, any good romance, you know, takes at least two weeks to bed in. So we all know Elle: Hehehehehe Carianne: why. so I'm going on holiday. we could have made you wait until I came back, but we wouldn't do that to you. So watch our socials for the date of the next drop in. Right, that's it. I think that's it. Is that it? Yeah, Elle: think that's it. Carianne: okay. Well We hope that you've enjoyed us ranting for a good couple of hours. I mean I don't understand how we managed to last that long, but we we do. Elle: Yeah, which we always do. Carianne: We do. so join us next time. as I say, watch the socials for the dates of those drops. Right, folks, we'll see you next time. Have a lovely, lovely rest of the week and we'll speak to you soon. Bye. Elle: See you soon guys, bye!
