Beyond Swarla: Hello everyone and welcome to Beyond Swalla. ⁓ However and wherever and whenever you're listening to this, you're very, welcome. So if you've seen our socials at all this week, you'll know that I'm delighted to have a new co-host with me. you've seen the socials you'll know that I couldn't DS Swain to come but I do think that I got one better if I'm honest so welcome to Elle. Elle and I a couple of months ago when I interviewed her for the podcast ⁓ that's on episode if you want to hear the interview. We didn't meet in real life of course because no one ever does anymore these days and that would be ridiculous. but we got on so well that when I invited her to join me she stupidly said yes! El, welcome! Laurie: Hello, thank you for having me. Beyond Swarla: Hi, ⁓ you're very welcome, you're very very welcome. How's your week been? Laurie: You usual. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. So you are a police officer, right? Laurie: I am, yes. Beyond Swarla: Right well, we might get a few insights along the way through these episodes, but ⁓ no pressure on you to do that. You're also a civilian, in of this podcast you are anyway. ⁓ So had two weeks of, well ⁓ I we've had two weeks of swallow, we haven't really had two weeks of swallow at all have we? Laurie: So it's been a bit slim pickings, isn't it really? Which is very, very slim pickings. So we've had a lot of other Corrie, I feel like a lot of the other storylines, which just seem to be quite a few, but very slim on the Swallow Ground. Beyond Swarla: you Yep. So, but we're going to make the most of it, right? yeah, I mean, I haven't, I'm not, you know, completely, I don't do this for living. So ⁓ I actually count how many seconds of swallow we have, ⁓ but know it was literally two scenes. And then we had some scenes of ⁓ Lisa, like week, ⁓ if can remember that far back when she at the Driscoll's. ⁓ So we the first sightings. ⁓ of DS Wayne in the wild she popped into the Rovers. She wasn't going to go and have a drink unfortunately she was there to see ⁓ about Megan's assault. the first thing Eva does obviously is misrank her and her DC which she really doesn't like right? Laurie: You know what, this is a weird thing because I don't, well we, police, I generally don't correct people regarding our rank because there's no real need to do it necessarily. And especially if we're playing close, you can't see that ranking insignia. So people just don't know. Do you know what I mean? And it just, sometimes it can come across like you'd be in a bit of an arse. Maybe Lisa was here, I don't know. But what I did find out is like since... Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. you Laurie: they brought Lisa in, all the characters have referred to her as DS Swain, like since she's appeared. Now, I put that down to the fact that they might not have given her a first name when she wasn't a regular. But generally as a rule as well, people outside of the police don't do that. But yeah, DC Swain is for now. yeah, if someone sort of said to me PCX, I'd be like, yeah, that's fine. It's not a problem, you know. Beyond Swarla: you Right, right, right. I think, I think, I do think you're right, I think that she wasn't Lisa Swain when she first came on the show at all. I think they didn't have a first name for her at all. I think, is it somebody, ⁓ can't remember now, but someone said she thought that if she had to give herself a name, it would be Hannah, but I don't know. ⁓ not sure that would work. It would never work now, obviously. But so, so. And she has been misranked by Abby as well when she was ⁓ Joel Dearing's murder. She misranked again by Abby. So maybe she gets it a lot and maybe she's just hacked off by it. yeah, it's that people do call her Dearsway and they don't know her name, which kind of goes to this whole... doesn't know anybody on the street or she didn't know anybody on the street but because when ⁓ Roy though he had pushed them to be together when she was in the hospital when when ⁓ Carla was in the hospital with her brain bleed he kept referring to her as Detective Sergeant Swain ⁓ you know Detective Sergeant Swain was very concerned about you and I don't you know ⁓ he even he but I mean he would I guess Laurie: Yes, yep. Beyond Swarla: because he's Roy. Okay. So what do we think about Maggie's attitude to our Alisa? Laurie: Yeah, yeah. Um, you know what? If Maggie is playing silly buggers and she'll say, Oh, Lisa, I'll, you know, I'll call you later. You just nick her and bring her in. You're like, no, that's not, that's not how we roll. either come with me voluntarily and we sort this now, or I'm going to arrest you. I've got the grounds. I'm going to do it like no messing, like no messing, but I wouldn't have taken that at all. I'm surprised Lisa did actually, because normally she's quite assertive. You she asserts herself and, but. For whatever reason, for the story, had to see that scene, didn't we, where they were all gathered around, they were talking about sort of Megan's assault. But then the next scene. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. But ⁓ Lisa actually said to her at that point, we go somewhere private? Can we chat somewhere private? And they just, no one left. Nobody ⁓ And was standing there asking and nobody took any notice of her. Apart from fact that when she said, ⁓ assaulting Megan, decided that this wasn't a conversation for Susie because Susie said, what does assault mean? Laurie: Yeah. Beyond: Hi guys, morning, afternoon, evening, whatever time you're listening to this, which is what I always say because we've got listeners from all over the world. Let introduce you to Kirsty. Kirsty Hales from Northampton, which is literally around the corner from me, but she's not in my presence, which is probably just as well. ⁓ Kirsty works in education ⁓ and I'm going let her explain exactly what that means. Beyond Swarla: and then Eva took Susie out but nobody else left! If that was me, I would shit myself basically and then just go with her to somewhere else which is what she had asked them to do. I don't know. Seems weird. Laurie: No. Yep, absolutely. And then like the next thing then you see Lisa interviewing, it's a full interview, she's interviewing Maggie without being under caution with Eva and Ben sat right there. So she's tanked whatever case could have happened around that assault straight away. It's all in the municipal court. I mean, we'll get very, very technically, but it just is. And the other thing was I was just like, oh, I wish TV would stop doing this. Maggie doesn't have to give a statement. Kirsty: Thank Beyond: Kirstie, welcome. Welcome to the podcast. Hi. Hi, hi, are you today? You're You're good. All right. ⁓ So to us what alternative education is. Kirsty: Hello. Hello, darling. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Kirsty: Yes, yeah, I'm good, thank you. Beyond Swarla: I'm sorry. Kirsty: Yeah, sure. it's, I suppose, young people that ⁓ it hard to work inside a school environment. So we try and help in other ways. Outdoor education. ⁓ Yeah. Laurie: She has to be interviewed because at this point she is a suspect in an assault case. You don't sit down and write a lovely statement with a suspect. They get nicked in the gate, interviewed, or they come in as a voluntary attender. TV does it all the time. Like, ⁓ we'll just take a little chat. you know, you've got these why TV do it, isn't it? They had to have that conversation in front of the address schools so everybody was aware of what's going on. But sometimes I'm just like... Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Beyond: What does your typical day look like? Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Kirsty: I manage ⁓ centre, so my typical day is trying to ⁓ manage the staff. Any serious ⁓ behaviour I have to sort, ⁓ talk to and ⁓ de-escalate. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, of course. Laurie: you guys actually speak to like police advisors? I'm pretty sure most TV does and they tell you straight away that wouldn't happen. Beyond Swarla: ⁓ my gosh. I feel like it's the same when doctors watch things like casualty. ⁓ used to know someone who was a surgeon and he just would get so annoyed. So do find yourself getting annoyed by that or just let it just go over your ⁓ Beyond: Yeah. And typically what kind of issues do the children have that you look after or educate? Yep. Laurie: Yeah, yeah. Kirsty: All sorts of those are on the spectrum. ⁓ Mainly behaviour. Quite a few them ⁓ struggle concentrate. Find it hard to write. Patience. ⁓ There's ⁓ quite a spectrum ⁓ all sorts of different So we just try and... Laurie: Yes, I guess you do because then there is that thing, you watching these stories and you know, obviously it's complete, you know, it's soap isn't it and whatever. So you kind of want to lose yourself in that, but every now and again, there's something that's a bit silly and I'm like, and it becomes because, you know, because I know it inside out and I'm like, so that then takes me out of, I'm really invested in whatever's going on in the scene and now I'm out of it because that's daft. Do you know what I mean? So. ⁓ Beyond: Yeah, yeah. Is this an alternative to... ⁓ Beyond Swarla: you Kirsty: engage them in things that they're interested in and show them things that they may not have come across before. Beyond Swarla: yeah yeah yeah we'll we'll move on we'll move on to you know the fact that the fact that maggie wouldn't even take her card you know and ben had to do that it's like what is maggie's problem ⁓ Laurie: I try not to let it bother me, I'm just like, it's just a soap, let it go, it's, you know. Move on, yeah, move on. Kirsty: some of us, quite few have been, ⁓ yeah, work with a school that's ⁓ basically with kids that have been excluded. Beyond: Okay, okay. Okay, well, that's that's probably very interesting, but also probably quite stressful. Yeah, I mean, obviously, you know, talk a little bit about your your background and how you got into that really. Kirsty: Yeah. Laurie: She, I think she just puts, she wants to put people's back up to do, she's that character, she's just one of those. But like I said, the first time when she was, you I'll call you later, it would be no messing, I'd be giving up, you know, there's two ways we can do this. So it's up to you. Kirsty: Yeah sure so ⁓ I suppose I struggled at school writing and stuff like that so I'm pretty, I'm better at sports so sports has always been ⁓ go-to. I've through years, done ⁓ lots different sports, football being my main one when I was younger through to ⁓ climbing, abseiling, paddleboarding, power kiting. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Because when she when she actually arrested Dev, she did say this, you know, you're to make it easy or make it difficult. ⁓ So earlier that was that was weeks ago. So they got it all wrong. ⁓ The time we see Lisa, ⁓ the time we see Lisa is in Speed Doll. Laurie: Mmm. Beyond Swarla: is picking up a curry for the lads, of the lads who's turned 21. So on this scene for you. Laurie: Yeah, it's interesting that we've got to mention that there's more cops in Weatherfield police station because there's about this too, but we get these fictional ones that pop in every now and again. And I was thinking in the next episode, was like, ⁓ I hope we see Connie because we just at the moment, guess, because of like child labor laws, that sort of thing, it's just like mentions every now and again, you hear sort of her Googling off screen. And then it got me thinking that like, where is Nana Sheila? Beyond Swarla: Yeah, of course, Yeah. Laurie: Right? Because she was having a minor procedure in hospital. Right? So has she now properly dumped Connie on Swale? Is Connie like now a permanent fixture? And I was like, well, it's a bit odd, isn't it? Because then are we going to have Connie at the wedding? Is it going to be, ⁓ Nana Sheila then pops up after the wedding and causes drama? Cause she's like, right, I'm taking the baby back now and they're super attached. it's, it's going to happen, right? We think maybe. I don't know. Kirsty: boxing, do physical combat as well ⁓ and ⁓ actually Thai at the moment which ⁓ for me with health. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Mmm. I know, I know. Beyond: Yeah, yeah, well any exercise is good isn't it? Okay, sure. So obviously, we've had a chat before and you're talking to me about that things changed in your life, you know, there were changes in your life kind of turned you in... Kirsty: Yes, yeah, so yeah, a lot of... Beyond Swarla: Yeah, I mean, I think there's many, many more dramas that can be milked out this situation, for sure. got so much else going on at the moment that I'm hoping that they don't do anything with Connie before wedding. I mean, you never know. You never know. They can ⁓ cover lot in like three minutes. ⁓ So knows? Who knows if the baby will be at the wedding? Who knows what will happen? We don't know. Beyond: turned you back to TV or to, you know, introduced you to other TV that you hadn't ever watched before, including Coronation Street. ⁓ that's okay, talk a little bit about what that was all about ⁓ how those changes came about. Okay. ⁓ Laurie: Yeah. Kirsty: Yeah, so it's happened quite recently. It all happened really in September. I call it I went sideways. So we've been going through IVF for, I say six years, my wife will say seven years. And it's been a bit of, you know, can't have, not me can't have kids and the, ⁓ just because of the Laurie: did wonder though, is she gonna be, like I said, off-screen gurgling for a bit and they'll Tracy Barlow her and she'll always be upstairs listening to her tips and then she'll come back down recast as a stroppy teenager, you know, in like 10 years time or something. Beyond Swarla: But. Yeah maybe. ⁓ I mean it's possible, it's possible. Yeah, knows what they've got in store, I'm interested to see. Yeah, you know, do we want, do we want swallow with a baby? Kirsty: low egg count and stuff like that. out I can. It's of a long story ⁓ and was ⁓ hard. November I was going through getting egg extraction my wife's carrying, but it's going to be my eggs. And ⁓ because it's going for so long and there was a point in that time that I'd Laurie: I don't know. You when there was rumblings of this, like before it happened, I think people were speculating that it could be, and this was ages ago, that Betsy might get pregnant and that would be the storyline that know, this baby is now, you know, obviously it made more sense that it was Rob's kid that came into it, but I don't know. It changes the dynamic massively, doesn't it? And I feel like as a young new couple, they need that? I mean, it's... Beyond: Okay. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah. Beyond: Yep. Yep. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Kirsty: didn't think it would ever be for me, it you it'll be on her. I kind of was, I let myself either get lost in sports or tried to think about it until it was hit me in the face. I'm actually having my eggs extracted. ⁓ my God, it's ⁓ happening kind of ⁓ And that sent sideways. Laurie: They're about to get married. Well, they're not young, but young in their relationships. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Well they're not young, that's the thing isn't it? That's the thing is... Alright okay yeah yeah early early yeah I get you, I get you because then you know throwing a baby into that temporarily is probably fine but having to bring up a child, a baby... ⁓ Laurie: Mm-hmm. Beyond Swarla: I don't want to say at their age because that, you know, disrespects the, you know, the capabilities of women of that age, because of course they can, of course they can, but it's a, it's just an interesting dynamic for, for that, for that family set, you know, the Connors Waynes. ⁓ Beyond: Yep. Big thing. Yep, yep. Kirsty: But the build up to that is August time, it's, you know, six weeks holiday. I've gone and chucked myself into canoeing the river then. It's all through from Northampton to the sea. Me and my best mate, I think it was four days, three nights. And then, you know, we booked a holiday straight after that. It was like a Laurie: Yeah, I'm just like you, I wonder how this is going to play out. And I don't know what's for the best because I guess selfishly it's lovely to see baby Connie and those cute scenes. But in reality, we apply that, yeah, you're ⁓ your, I both of them are supposed to be early 50s now, aren't they? ⁓ That's hard work. That's real hard work. So, yeah. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Beyond: you Kirsty: A day after that we were on holiday and then two days after the holiday we in ⁓ up a mountain and ⁓ through I think there was like five ⁓ there's a lovely walk. So know as you can see I was just throwing myself into all of that and then was a bit of a smack in the face come September November time where I had to deal with Beyond Swarla: yeah yeah tears to tears ⁓ but it's okay it's okay because they've got Jodie to look after her right we're not talking about no we're not going to talk about Jodie right now we're going back to speed doll so Lisa gets invited to join Bethany and David for a little chat but of course we and she looks delighted doesn't she look delighted that they're going to include her in a conversation but but we know that Laurie: Jody right yeah That is quite cute, yeah. Kirsty: and sports, just, don't know what it was, just, something just wasn't there for sports. And I suppose I started looking, started watching programs. I think it was, I think it was Zoe Slater coming back into EastEnders and that was something that I used to watch way back in the day, I think back in 2000, it could be 2001. Beyond Swarla: But we know that Bethan is only basically milking her for information on Jodie because Bethan is suspicious of Jodie at that point. So what do we think about the fact that Swala get Dal from Speed Dal and feed the babies Dal and Jogger? I mean, I think it's great, but what do you think? Laurie: They're just asking for trouble, aren't they? mean, a baby, how's Connie now? Is Connie like seven months supposed to be? Six, seven months? Yeah. And I'm like, you're a baby cup, all right, good luck with that. Beyond Swarla: I don't know, six months? Six, seven months, yeah. Kirsty: And when I saw the advert come on, was like, oh, that intrigued me. So I started watching that. But the storyline was dire. hate to tell you, but oh my God. I actually don't know how that didn't turn me off. Soaps completely. And don't get me wrong, I used to love the Slayers. But Suki and Eve were in it. And at the time, I used to just fast forward until the Slayers were on and... Beyond Swarla: I I know. mean, that poor baby's digestive system. mean, I call digestive systems, she'll get used to it and she obviously loves it. So it's fine, it's fine. But I mean, I don't want to be changing that child's nappies at all. But we're gonna leave, ⁓ leave the toilet stuff, shall we? So, and Carla did the background checks on Jodie because we don't know her from Adam. Beyond: Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ Laurie: ⁓ gosh, no, no. Kirsty: didn't want to watch it all the fluff but Heather Pierce is what I remember seeing Heather Pierce in it and I related that back to lip service she was in. Yeah, so that made me Laurie: Yeah, this is an interesting point and right, they got this right because Lisa couldn't do that. She couldn't do a background check on Jodie, even though it'd be very easy for her. ⁓ can't use police systems for personal use. It's, you know, big no-no. She'd end up with a sack quite promptly. But I thought was interesting that did these checks because ⁓ I can imagine like Jodie having like five burner phones and putting on a ridiculous accent every time like... Beyond: Lip service, yes. Diabolical. ⁓ it really was. It really was. Bless her. Kirsty: stop and start watching her clips actually that's how it started rolling then I went back watched yes I actually went further back to when Suki arrived Beyond Swarla: ⁓ my god, ⁓ yeah, ⁓ maybe. Laurie: Carla called her pretending to be a refugee and she'd be like, ah yes, oui oui, she was at Au Pair for many years, she is fantastic. No, of course she's not just a little sack of Beth. Do you know what I mean? It would be brilliant and she does that every time Carla phones on a different phone. In my mind, that's what's happened. Beyond: You had a lot to go back to, you? Back like three years. Yeah. Right. Kirsty: That's how much I started getting into it. that took me a bit by surprise to be honest with you, because it's like I said, TV wasn't my thing. I'd even fast forward for the, you know, bits and bobs. So, yeah, that got got me ⁓ intrigued. I because I'd watch ⁓ a bit YouTube and there a clip that came up with them two in Inside Soap. ⁓ Beyond: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: My god. Really? god your mind works very differently to mine. ⁓ was like, I was like as far as we know, as far as we know, Jodie has definitely worked with other families right because we've seen one these families crop up in the precinct when Jodie told her that she was in witness protecting which is absolutely ridiculous. Laurie: Yep. Yeah, yeah. Beyond Swarla: But we do know that she has got some experience, but there's this whole thing about, don't know why Jodie was locked up in the van to start with, so we are going to talk about Jodie later. So let's leave that. But yeah, sweet little Lisa thinking that she's having a chat with her neighbours. What was it with David? David was just shooting her daggers. Is David just a twat? I mean, is he just generally a twat? You don't have to answer that, it's rhetorical, we all know he is. Beyond: Yeah. Yeah. Kirsty: what do call it, interview. think about one, one something can't remember now. And Heather's about how there was ⁓ rivalry on the about, Coronation Street are now doing a lesbian couple. ⁓ And she put, ⁓ I found it then, I can't remember if I my head now, but I found the Beyond: Ha ha ha ha ha. Yeah. Laurie: Yeah, it's a weird one. Like I just don't see that, Since Swallow moved into number six, he's just been a massive arse them I don't get why, you know, he's just I know he can be a bit antagonistic as a character anyway But I just yeah, he just yeah, he's just a bit of an arse I think Kirsty: post she put up on of our social media platforms ⁓ I think some in that just resonated with me and I was like, yeah actually why aren't we just happy that there's just more than one couple out there? ⁓ And that's what drew me to Swala. ⁓ And yeah, now I can't get off. Beyond Swarla: Night. Beyond: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, it's just a bit an art. He is he's got small man syndrome. I reckon And he's just yeah, I don't know. I don't know what it is with him Do they do the quarry writers think that it's funny this bit? I mean, we're talk about the bin wars. Oh god. Sorry. We're gonna have to but But yeah, okay, we'll leave that we'll leave that so yeah, there's there's that there's that lovely seamless with Lisa and then we don't see them at all for the rest of that week at all Beyond: Yeah. Which of course you hadn't watched at all at that point. Yeah, right. And so what did you do once you realised, ⁓ my gosh, there's another queer couple, queer female couple on, on soaps? You Kirsty: Never watch curry. Never watch curry. ⁓ It was quite hard. Yes, it was quite hard because my mum's a Corrie and Emmerdale fan and I always would wind my mum up back in the day when I used to watch EastEnders. But EastEnders are better than Corrie or Emmerdale. Yeah, and I even done it before she knew I was watching Swa La. Beyond Swarla: And the first mention we have of anything swallow related is when Sean is talking to Ryan this week about the glitter in the invites. Come on. Betsy and the glitter. Beyond: You fool. Right, right. Laurie: I loved that, I loved it. think Betsy yassifying the Swallow invites is just a fun touch. But you know what I was thinking when that scene did play out, was like, do you know what's more fun? Seeing the actual wedding preparations. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: You Kirsty: up a bit about it then because she ⁓ out that I was watching EastEnders again and she was surprised by that and she was ⁓ my god I can't believe you're watching ⁓ again I actually took her to... this is not forgotten about this I actually took mum for her birthday to the Coronation Street set when I still I was only about Beyond Swarla: yes want to see that scene i want to see them you know at the at the island writing out the invites having a little chat cuddled up together and then betsy comes down and she's like why aren't you putting glitter in it you should put glitter in the envelopes and they're like what you know that kind of scene that would have been beautiful and like 30 second scene would it have killed them ⁓ Beyond: Right. Laurie: I'm gonna take a very, very short scene when it would, yeah, it would have been nice. Yeah, really nice. But yeah, there we go. You know, I've got to say, when we're on the subject of Ryan, I love him as a character. He's just so lovely. And I just hope that this year we get him a nice girlfriend or a nice boyfriend or a nice them friend. Do you know what I mean? It's just, he needs like, I hope he has like a nice romance with perhaps a new character they bring us away. Cause I think he deserves it. You know, he's just all heart, isn't he? He's lovely. Kirsty: two or three weeks into watching Street and getting into this swaala. ⁓ we were out there, would joke that the guest was hoping it would be one of the girls at ⁓ Yeah, was in in January, weren't she? I think I saw. Beyond Swarla: ⁓ okay. ⁓ God, yeah. Beyond: That's very rare, Yeah she was, yeah. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Kirsty: gutted. So yeah, so my mum still can't believe when I was going around that I knew who was at the doors and who was at So I booked it, I think. Beyond Swarla: He's a beautiful character. He's such a... He's one of the good guys, isn't There's very few of them on there. I most of ⁓ guys okay. We're swimming in ⁓ shit men the moment, and women. But, yeah, always a really good character and he's very sensitive and loving and the relationship he has with Carla is amazing. Yeah, ⁓ I'd love to see from him. I'd love to see more from him. Beyond: you Ha ha ha! Laurie: Yeah Kirsty: beginning of September so I thought maybe I should watch it a little bit just so I know what's what so I think that also helped with all this process of what was going on just all started to fall into place I guess yeah so yeah I can't stop watching the the Swala I must admit I don't I do fast forward through to the Swala moments I don't watch all of them if Roy's in Beyond Swarla: so we get the glitter the ⁓ Ryan. got lot of Ryan this week, ⁓ but that's of through the Debbie storyline, so we'll talk about that later. Can it be obviously, that in the last two weeks we got precisely two scenes with Swala, and Jodie was there both times. Jodie, get out! ⁓ Laurie: Yes. Beyond: That's okay, can can you can consume media however you want there's no rules there are no rules ⁓ Laurie: Like, do you know, strangest thing about that is like, they should be weary of a female they don't know particularly well inserting themselves into their lives as quickly as, you know, they've not learned their lesson really from the bonkers that was Becky, I think, you know, inviting another unhinged female into their house, you know. Kirsty: Yeah I do make an exception for Roy, Nina, and yes Ryan, ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Thank Beyond: Ryan, Lauren, Ryan. Yeah, Ryan. Yeah. Well, yeah. I mean, any of the Connorswains and their nearest and dearest are okay. So do you find it, do you, there's obviously a strong connection for you between, you know, seeing a sapphic couple on the ascenders and seeing a sapphic couple in Coronation Street. What impact does that have? Beyond Swarla: I don't They don't know that she's unhinged. This is the thing, she doesn't appear to be unhinged. We are picking up on everything because we are Swallow fans and we forensically look at everything. when you just watch the scenes as a kind of general audience participant, when you see Jodie and those kind of things, she doesn't seem weird. Right? Beyond: for you as a queer woman. Beyond Swarla: I've been a I've been a nanny in private homes before I worked as a nanny in private homes for seven years and and You do you have to you have to insert yourself you become a member of the family very very quickly because you know you're looking after the kids and the kids are their precious baby and You know you you you want to you want to be As a nanny you want to be Kirsty: What impact does that have? can't believe I'm actually saying this but I've actually been saying to my wife I think I'm more of a lesbian now than I ever have been and she laughs at that. Beyond: Right, okay. Is there a sliding scale? ⁓ There's a lot of who when they watch Swallow like, right I've become much gayer than I was before when I started. ⁓ Is that what you really think now? ⁓ Kirsty: yeah I think so. Beyond Swarla: felt like you are part of the family and you do feel like you're part of the family after a while. mean obviously it's only been a couple of weeks. yeah so Jodie was there all the time and we know what she did so we'll talk about that but... ⁓ poor Lisa she's coming home from a night shift. Now ⁓ you have listened to episode three and the conversation that you and I had it's almost as if they heard us. ⁓ Kirsty: Yes. Yes, yeah, the wife always replies with, I'm glad to hear that. Yeah. Yeah. So, um, yeah, it's, I've actually gone back and started to watch, um, Carla. Um, I did, I did go back backwards as in year 25, 24, 23, 22, 21, um, when it got up to like the COVID period. Beyond: Yeah. Right, yeah, Yeah, yeah. Laurie: I thought the same thing. was like, okay, okay. Beyond Swarla: because having never mentioned her shifts before, not really, mention of late night shifts, ⁓ mention of night shifts and there was mention of her coming home in the morning after night shift which we've never had before, never I don't think, I mean someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think we've ever had her come home from a night shift, not that we know that she has ⁓ Kirsty: I went backwards that way and then I realised and I think I went gone a bit further back to when her and Nick I can't remember what year that is. ⁓ Beyond: ⁓ gosh that's a long way back, it's about 2016. Kirsty: Okay, so yeah, I might have gone back to there, but then from... I couldn't watch the wedding. I don't know why. I've gone back to when she first went into Coronation Street. I'm at 2012 now. ⁓ Yeah. Yeah, that was a hard year. Well, when I say hard year, mean... But everyone hated her. Everyone hated her because of... It's the whole rape... Laurie: No, no, you're absolutely right. And it shocked me. And I thought exactly the same thing. I was like, ⁓ OK, well, there we go. There's a bit of realism because she's CID. The chances are she's going to be working a fair amount of nights because she's a DS as well. And then they dropped that one. I was like, OK, fair enough. I think coming in grumpy, they got that right as well. Absolutely. Because just worked 10, 12 hours right through the night. But I would have to say. Beyond: Right. Yep, yep. Right. ⁓ gosh. Been through a lot. All of the years were hard. ⁓ my god. They've all been hard. Kirsty: thing and they don't think that she has been raped or he's making out that she hasn't. ⁓ it's horrible everyone just seems to hate her. Laurie: She was a little bit arsey to Jodie, I think that was little bit uncult for. But then... Beyond: Yeah, Carla has had the most traumatic two decades on that street. It's been ridiculous. But yeah, yeah, there you go. That's what's made her strong, I guess. Beyond Swarla: Do think so? Do you think she was arsey though? The only thing I thought about it was when Jodie offered to make her a coffee I'd be like yes please. She didn't say please okay so that was as far as I'm concerned she should have but the whole thing about you know hold the milk because you know what's the point I didn't I mean she didn't say it in a narky way I don't know I would always defend Lisa if I possibly can. So I had mixed feelings. Kirsty: Yeah. Laurie: Yes, yeah. Kirsty: Yes, yeah, I think what comes across is that you can you can tell she's Her she's really got a character that well, mean ⁓ you do after though so many years I guess I love that It's quite natural across ⁓ the that how plays her character and Yeah, I just Laurie: No, absolutely. I think I I just yeah, yeah, guess I guess I can see it from both sides. But you know, that then spoons Jodie because she's obviously a little in hinge. She's like, well, you know, you can see those cogs turning. I didn't like the way you've talked to me. So I'm going to you warrant cards, you know, which seems reasonable completely. Kirsty: I can understand why people were calling her queen because obviously I came in obviously really late but you know watching it from 25 so I was seeing people saying that she's queen and all this and the other you know lovely comments and I do get it now but yeah at the time I was intrigued. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, I'm not sure she had that thought about the war on card. I think it just came to her when she saw it. She's like, ⁓ yeah, I'm going to nick it because she was mean to me. not sure Jodie has that forethought of what she's going to do. She's planning these things, I don't think. Stealing the book and stuff like that. She sees an opportunity to fuck up someone's life. Beyond: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Okay. So let's just talk about the two sapphic couples. What do you see as the similarities between the two and then the differences between the two and what do you like or dislike about that? We're not here to choose which one's best by the way. We're here to just talk about the fact that there are two strong sapphic couples in two of the country's biggest soaps and that requires, you know, that... Kirsty: Yes. Beyond Swarla: And so she's going to do it because she's... well, who knows what she is, but likes to rock the boat, she likes to cause mischief, she likes to... she's very I think, in that respect. I don't know how dangerous she is, but we'll see. ⁓ Kirsty: like Laurie: think you're right, she's quite opportunistic. think the only thing she did which took planning was that domestic abuse group that she went to to get sort of that story, didn't she? She did that. That's the only bit of planning we saw from her which was quite calculated, which sort of suggests, you know, she's, hmm. But you're right, a lot of the stuff that she does is very opportunistic. She sees something, someone upsets her or whatever, she just wants to cause a bit of trouble and she just does it, doesn't she? Kirsty: Yes. Beyond: deserves some discussion. ⁓ Kirsty: Yeah, no, definitely. I'm quite a sucker for the emotions, know, anger, the love or the upset. So I like the way that and Eve's story been quite a long story. I feel that they've both had a partner that's tried to them apart. Beyond Swarla: ⁓ yeah. Yeah, of course. Yeah, yeah. But of course, Carla picks up on her slightly narkiness and says, you did you have a bad night? And we get the story of Terry Berry. Laurie: to him. But you know that wasn't even a bad night, she was telling a bit of an anecdote wasn't she there that know Terry Berry who used to nick when he was a kid is one that you know when I'm out and I'm like okay it's not a bad night I'd be like oh actually maybe he's turning his life around. Kirsty: So you get to see the ins and outs of the love, the anger, the upset that that brings. I think with Suki, has a hard exterior, bit like Carla has a hard exterior. But I see a softer side when Carla's at home with her family. I think ⁓ Suki still puts on Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, he's getting the opportunity to turn his life around. I don't know if it was a bad night or not, but well, ⁓ said it was, so we have to assume it was. ⁓ And then, ⁓ Laurie: I think to be completely honest with you, it's never a good night when you're working a night shift. You know what mean? You're working a night shift. It's straight from the start. You're like, ugh, working through the night. It's not going to be fun. It's not going to be good. But yeah. Kirsty: bit of a very facing with the family and has to be that person that's strong. So I do like all that. The storyline where Suki's husband at the time, I think it went off about nearly a year or so, so there was a lot. It was a lot. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. No, and I don't suppose it's quiet either. I don't suppose it's ever quiet. ⁓ Laurie: well, you get that weird sort of witching hour sort of around, to be honest with you, usually around sort of three, four in the morning and you're just like, hmm, it's all a little bit too quiet and then, you know, all hell will break loose for the next few hours and then ⁓ hand to early shift. It's all good. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: you Kirsty: I think we only got a few months with Becky and I that's a name that shouldn't be said or... But her being in it ⁓ that you got so much emotion, know, they staying together, the long episode. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: ⁓ excellent, we've got, but then we've got this letter. This letter has arrived for and ⁓ my gosh, the scenes. I'm gonna you act lyrical for a bit. Beyond: Yeah. It's okay, I can edit it out. I won't, I won't, it's fine. Laurie: It's lovely. I was about this because I think a lot of people picked up. were like, ⁓ still married to Becky. It's all well and good that we've got the date in for the Swallow wedding, but how are they going to do this? Because even in the circumstances that Lisa and Becky are in, still takes, in reality, quite a few months for that to happen. So ⁓ think in a way it was quite clever. Kirsty: loved it yes yeah the long scene yeah but then she did come back yeah so um yeah i personally didn't mind it going on i didn't didn't like the third time of um Carla being uh what's the word taken up kidnapped thank you yeah held hostage it's actually a question for you on the the hostage thing i Beyond: the long scene and they split up yeah a lot of people really love that Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Laurie: of the story line is to be like, ⁓ it's just, you know, it's just come through the mail, it's done sort of thing. But I guess because Betsy's yassified the wedding invites, it might be a nice touch to yassify the decree absolute as well, wouldn't it? Put a bit glitter in that as well, cause it's celebration, right? You know. Beyond: Kidnapped, held hostage. Beyond Swarla: I thought you'd have to be happy with ⁓ I'm like hang on a minute it was addressed to Lisa there's no way Carla would be you opening her mail that just wouldn't happen anyway so but wait yes absolutely and Kirsty: feel like they've never really gone into any of the Kala being hostage. It's been a bit... Yeah. Beyond: No! I know, no, it's terribly frustrating. It's appalling really because I don't think any of us can really imagine what it's like and it's like it's just a couple of episodes and then that's it. know, whether they'll revisit trauma of Laurie: Yes. ⁓ it's Lisa's marriage, isn't it? So it's for Lisa to do. Beyond Swarla: ⁓ they're hopelessly love, clearly. mean, you know, they... draws her really close. I mean Lisa looked... she looked worried when she... was that look? Beyond: being held hostage. mean especially the last time which was a long time. I mean you could argue that the first two were very very short-lived and that wasn't alone with those in those situations because you know yeah so Mandy took her and you know she was never left alone but with the you know and also with the with the second one Beyond Swarla: I think she looked quite nervous about opening it. I think she didn't know for sure that that was what it was going to be. Was she worried that there was going be some kind of appeal or something like that or that they wouldn't grant it to her and this was another letter saying sorry no because I think she honestly didn't really really really think that it was happening until she actually saw it in black and white. Laurie: Yep. Yep. Kirsty: Yes, was the first one with Rob. ⁓ Monday, yeah. Yes. Beyond: at Kembalo's house, she wasn't left alone, which she was always with someone. But the third one, she was completely left alone, especially towards the end, not knowing whether she would live or die. That's, you know, to not have talked about that at all as it stands right now. Yeah, of course. Yeah. Laurie: It's interesting. I don't know a lot. I've not been through it for myself So don't know a lot about divorce But I did think that the character that we know that Becky is and what she did right at the end like well I'm gonna take you down with me and all that stuff with Lisa I'm surprised she didn't try and put more obstacles in the way of this divorce just to be Becky, you know, like I said I don't know enough about divorce to support what exactly she could have done. But yeah Kirsty: Yeah. Yes. Yeah or even think maybe a scene with her going to counselling because I think counselling can be a bit taboo ⁓ as we saw with Lisa saying like she doesn't want to open up and she found it quite hard so I think it would ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Well, mean, yeah, I she's in jail. What the hell could she have done? There's not much. I mean, it could have been enforced by a judge if there was, you know, that kind of... I know enough about it either. I have had a divorce, but... Beyond: I mean Carla had experience of therapy it's not going to be something that she would shy away from but they just just haven't they've just ⁓ it under the carpet and moved on ⁓ to all sorts of other things which we won't talk about ⁓ yet Kirsty: Yes. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: And it was fairly simple in the end. If you don't have kids that you know, that aren't adults, I mean, obviously Betsy is an adult, so it's not really a problem. If there's no, if there's no financial agreement that has to be worked out, can be quite simple. It can be just as simple as signing a couple of sheets of paper and that's it. And you just wait for the, for the things to come through. ⁓ so yeah, it could have been as simple. And I, and actually I don't think it takes that much time. It just depends on, on Kirsty: Yes. Laurie: ⁓ shit. Kirsty: Yeah. Beyond: Yeah, I mean, you know, what did I... I've got to admit, I don't watch these senders. only have a limited amount of time and I choose my soaps wisely. ⁓ So, with Suki and Eve and their wedding, they both suffered immense amounts of drama and trauma. know, Suki pulled off a roof and Eve got poisoned. So what... Kirsty: Thank Beyond Swarla: you know on court dates and all that kind of thing so it's possible anyway it doesn't matter because this is Soapland and the Soapland timelines are always a bit you know clunky ⁓ but you know Carla holds her close while she's opening the letter and then the hug that they give each other it's so lovely Lisa's little look heaven would Laurie: Hmm. It's done. Yeah. Beyond: In the aftermath of that, how did extenders handle that storyline? Did they do anything with that at all as well? ⁓ and Suki says we win. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But in the aftermath of that, I mean, I saw those scenes. I wanted to see the wedding. Of course I watched those episodes. I'm not an idiot. Kirsty: Yeah, there were scenes in the hospital, they came together, there was a lovely scene where... Yeah, yeah. ⁓ It sounds like you've... Beyond Swarla: She's done that before. What do we think about that? Does it mean anything? Kirsty: I'm sorry. Do I need to convince you that it's a good storyline? Oh, okay. Yeah, exactly. Yes. Laurie: don't know. Sometimes ⁓ feel like I can read Lisa quite well and sometimes I'm like... Beyond: I know I love Succin Eve, I love Succin Eve but I don't watch EastEnders, I just I do dip in and out of their storyline of course but as far as the whole of EastEnders is I'm just I to watch it ⁓ but I say my time is limited so have to choose my soaps well well I just have to choose my soaps which I do Laurie: I'm not sure. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, so I have some thoughts because you know I have thoughts on everything. done it before, she did it when went into a hug for the proposal and this is the second time. There's other people saying that she did it when they did the ⁓ announcement of wedding being the 23rd of April but she doesn't look heavenward she just looks a bit stunned. ⁓ Kirsty: you Beyond: But yeah, in the aftermath of that though, did they address it? Did they address it through any kind of counselling or trauma, you know, teams or anything like that? Because, you know, that Suki had been through the most tremendous amount of, you know, domestic abuse, basically. So do they, have they ever mentioned it again? know? ⁓ Beyond Swarla: I wonder, when it was the proposal I thought, ⁓ she's looking up to heaven because she's basically silently saying to Becky, found my person, know, because there were a lot of people that said that Becky sent Carla to her, all this kind of stuff and I'm like, I'm a complete romantic, so I'm like, she's thanking Becky and she's saying, she's saying I can finally let you go, I can let you go, basically I can let you go now because... Kirsty: Yes. Yep. ⁓ so they haven't gone to like any counseling or that, but you do see them together. and you going through that, ⁓ trauma from, from my memory, ⁓ cause been stuck on smile for so long now. ⁓ yes. Yeah. I just remember it really enjoying. Yeah. The whole wedding, the aftermath, the coming together. Laurie: That's right. ⁓ Beyond: And it was like over a year ago, I guess, wasn't it? Beyond Swarla: not because I found another person but I'm happy and I'm in love and I'm getting married and I'm gonna let you go and it's a conscious choice to let her go but clearly that's not the case this time because she knows that she's not in heaven I'm wondering if... Laurie: It's not a walk. Kirsty: I remember the rest of family, Suki's family, coming together and having lovely scenes in the house and in the hospital. I can't say too much just because I can't stop my head. I definitely know they didn't do any professional therapy or anything like that. Laurie: Yeah, never thought of that at all. yeah, I've clocked the skyward look before, but what a lovely interpretation if it played out that way that Becky was really dead. That's lovely, but that's never happened. ⁓ yeah. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Just crush my dreams my my romantic soul. I'm like, ⁓ god. Well, it clearly wasn't that was it? Well, ⁓ would it might have been that's what it might have been had she not Had she not done it again this time Then I would have said well that was what it was because for all intents purposes. She was she was in heaven or whatever ⁓ ⁓ this time of course ⁓ Beyond: Therapy or anything? Yeah. So it would seem that the soaps deal with these kind of things in a very similar way in which don't deal with them at all. Right. Okay. Kirsty: But just because... Laurie: It might have been, yeah, back before. Kirsty: Yeah, yeah. I think for people to see them go to therapy would be a good thing, a positive thing for that because I do think that it could be a bit of a taboo of going to get counselling is like, oh no. Laurie: Interestingly though, the proposal, instead of looking skyward, if Lisa just looked for a left, she would have seen Becky hide around the corner. So, wouldn't have to look far. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, she probably would, yeah. No, was only a few days before she turned up. Anyway, God, I don't want to talk about that. So this time, of course, I'm thinking to myself, is this something that is purposeful? And I don't know that it is. It might well not be. Because Vicky has done an interview, not an interview, she did a kind of acting... Beyond: Yeah, I mean, I don't I don't know if that's the reason why they don't do that because it's like, oh, you know, therapy is a bit divisive. You know, some people really think it's great. Other people don't want to talk about it or don't want to think about it. But yeah, mean, given that soaps try to educate in some respects, you would have thought that that would be a bigger emphasis on it, I guess. Kirsty: Yeah. Beyond: But there's not, there isn't. It's like, right, move on to the next drama. Let's be having you. That's the next thing. What's the next thing we can give to them? Yeah. Beyond Swarla: was it a seminar? She did an acting seminar where she talked about when she got the job with Corrie and she said that she went outside and she looked to the heavens or something similar to that she basically manifested this job and she said you know she said hand on heart I looked to the heavens and I said please give me a shot in the room so it may be a Vicky thing and it may be a Lisa thing I have no idea it's just it's just interesting to speculate does she Kirsty: Yeah. Do you think that the aftermath of a big situation that happens with these, not just, you Sikhi and Even and ⁓ Swala, all of the stories that are do you think the aftermath of a big story is just as big? Beyond: It's not that this is my opinion the reason they don't do it is because It's not drop. It's not dramatic enough, ⁓ you so ⁓ lives feed off of Drama and dramatic things happening and that's just not dramatic. I mean, ⁓ you ⁓ nobody they assume I think Beyond Swarla: Does she use it to, is there somebody that she looks heavenward to? Was she brought up a Christian? Laurie: I was just about to say perhaps going on that sort of track that you had with being Becky, perhaps we don't hear a lot about Lisa's parents because maybe one or both have passed. Maybe it's something like that and she's looking at being like, mom and dad, I'm gonna be okay because, know, that's a lovely ⁓ to think about it actually. But I don't know, I don't think that much thought would have gone into it. Kirsty: Yes. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah. Beyond: that nobody wants to see people get over stuff they just want to see well what's the next thing that they're going to have to deal with i personally i don't think that's right but there's lots of there's lots of examples of things that have been a storyline and then have been completely forgotten about like ⁓ Craig Tinker had had a whole OCD ⁓ storyline and that's that's got forgotten ⁓ Beyond Swarla: I don't know, you have to look at the No, I'm just because because you know we have nothing better to do clearly and you just you just think Yeah, it could be as simple as she's looking It could be simply she was brought up with a Christian background and that she's looking to the heavens just because she does or Because she's looking to someone who is who is very important in her life who has departed this life Kirsty: Yeah. Beyond: before he died that got forgotten completely. ⁓ But yeah, think that they are very much keen on moving ⁓ storylines Just let's move it along. What's the next thing? What can we make funny? What can we make dramatic? can we, you know, who can we kill? ⁓ You who can we get married off? Who can we have, you know, shagging each other? You know, ⁓ that's what want to see. ⁓ Kirsty: Okay. Beyond Swarla: we'll never know, we'll never know and that's fine, you know, whatever. Okay, so realised that we have talked about about seconds of scenes and it's taken a half an hour to do that so I'm just gonna move us along a bit. So they're to Roys and this whole thing about Black Pudding, is it code or is it not code for something else? I'm sorry, it's not, right, it's not code for something else, okay, is it? ⁓ Kirsty: Yep. Beyond: That's what the audience want to see and in some respects guess that's true. As a Swala fan, ⁓ tend to, and I'm generalizing obviously and only my we tend to look at things very forensically. ⁓ Laurie: didn't think that until you mentioned it and I'm like, I'm sure. I'm really not sure now. Again, was just, yeah, I don't But ⁓ one thing will say. Beyond Swarla: you you I'm sorry but you're gonna have a euphemism for ⁓ black sorry no. I mean no, really, clearly no. Isn't it? It's not the sexiest thing to say. Really. No. And if that is what happened, where the hell did they do it? Because come on, where? No. I'm saying no. I'm saying absolutely not you filthy little wussits. Don't go thinking that. ⁓ Kirsty: Yeah, yeah, okay. Yeah. Yeah. Beyond: I mean that's probably just that's probably the understatement of the century. I think we do we do we do look at things very very closely we look at the minutiae we notice and we everything I mean every single thing every inaccuracy every inconsistency everything and I don't think that the soaps are used to that ⁓ if honest because a lot of the general audience will just Laurie: it's not, it's not, you know, not, I'm not, yeah. Yeah. think more likely that I'm not a fan of black pudding, I think it's gross. Just the thought of like a blood sausage is Ming to me. Personally, no offense anybody who loves black pudding, but it's probably like, ⁓ if someone had eaten like, you know, ⁓ a big pile black pudding, I'm like, I'm not kissing you now, that's gross. No thanks, no thanks. Maybe it's just that, that's Carla's just like, I'll let you have it, right? But just this once. Yeah, I don't think it's a code. Kirsty: Yeah. Yeah. Beyond: sit down with a cup of tea, watch it and go, nah, that's good. And then just leave it. But we're like, you know, we are absolutely manic when it comes to, you know, forensically looking at every single scene, every, you know, the colour of everyone's eyes, dates, times, know, continuity issues. We see it all, we notice it all because we watch the scenes 400 times. So, you know, I just don't think that... Beyond Swarla: You Kirsty: Yes. Beyond Swarla: So we're saying that it isn't code and that Lisa is only allowed it when Carla says she is. That's fair, that's fair. I know a lot of couples who never eat things like peanut butter in their own house because their partner doesn't allow it in the house. could never be me. So stolen Lisa's warrant card when they've gone out and... Kirsty: I know. Laurie: Yeah, I think so. Beyond: the soaps were ready for that to be honest. ⁓ Kirsty: I'm glad you brought up the forensic thing because there is another part of the pairing with the way they play with the hair, you know what I mean by that, with the swan. I see the difference with Suki and Eve, they don't, I don't want to say same because that's going to sound like I'm bored of it, not bored, it's... Beyond Swarla: then they get back and Lisa's hair is a mess So I think this is why the black pudding situation came up because Lisa's hair is a mess But I'm just I'm just I'm not gonna talk about it because Lisa's hair has just fallen out of her ponytail. It's fine There's nothing more to it. So Jodie sends Carla I'm not having it. I'm not having it. ⁓ Jodie ⁓ know I ⁓ Beyond: Yeah, yeah. Kirsty: I suppose the touching scenes seem, they make different. Where I'm trying to say this without it sounding too negative, because I don't want to be... ⁓ Yeah, yeah. I guess the swallow it would be, you know, the hair. I'd say the kissing scenes are pretty similar as well. Laurie: Sorry, I can't get over people thought this. Like what is going on? Really? Oh my goodness. Beyond Swarla: I know some people's brains are in the toilet or in the bedroom. Jodie sends pictures of the baby to Carla's and ⁓ they're just oooing and aahing. ⁓ Lisa's like ⁓ my god she's so cute. Well we all agree, we all agree. And ⁓ Carla's like you know who knew that babies could have so much stuff and Lisa says she's called Carla maintenance basically she said so how does it feel to not be the most high maintenance Beyond: It's okay because you're allowed your opinion, don't worry. Laurie: Mmm. Kirsty: where I think you get a bit more, would be the word? ⁓ ⁓ variety with ⁓ and Eve, with the touch and the... Yes, that's it, yes, but yeah, that's good, ⁓ we've also had ⁓ scene in the bedroom with ⁓ and Eve, we haven't... Beyond: variety right in the way that they are in the way that they're intimate yeah okay okay Beyond Swarla: sitting in the house. Laurie: I think she is the only one who could say that to Carla. Do know anybody else who thinks Carla would rip their head off, right? It's just, she just calls her out. I'm just like, okay, yeah. Beyond: ⁓ well yes. That's, yeah well that's, you know. We never, well... ⁓ they do it, yeah they do it. Yeah they do. They do bedroom scenes, yeah they do. I mean who can forget the horror of seeing Ryan wake up in bed with Leanne? I mean, yeah. They do, they do do bedroom scenes. Swala will never get a bedroom scene I don't think and that's, you know, that's by the by. Beyond Swarla: you Kirsty: Is that something that Coronation Street don't do? Because obviously I don't watch. They do. Beyond Swarla: she does but actually when you think about it Carla is now third in line for the most high maintenance person or woman in the house because now firmly behind Connie and Betsy which is is great because you know Carla I would imagine was high maintenance but I wouldn't say she's now being really honest but Lisa's Lisa Lisa Kirsty: I mean, back in the day when I've watched... Beyond: So, you know, Swallow are a lot earlier on in their relationship than Tsukigawa are now. you know, but at the end of the day, it's also actors' choice about how they play that part to a certain extent, I guess. Laurie: I'd agree with you there. Beyond Swarla: Lisa apologises to Jodie for biting her head off. Biting her head off? Really? Kirsty: Yep. Laurie: I like I said, I thought it was a little bit arsey. I wouldn't think it was really biting her head off. But you one thing I will say for Lisa is when she's in the wrong, nine times out of 10, she will sort of, you know, think about it and apologize for it. She can always be that big a person, which Carla, not so much. If you notice between the two, Carla, by her own admission is a bit pigheaded about things. Whereas Lisa's quite quick to be like, oh, you know, sorry, that was my fault. I'm sorry, which is quite good quality. Kirsty: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah. Kirsty: But guess just touching upon ⁓ we fixate on some bits that they're doing, suppose that's something that I've... ⁓ not fixate, but... yeah, something I suppose I've noticed watching the pairs. But like you said, they all do it differently. And I don't change over the channel to watch the same, I guess. Beyond Swarla: Hmm. Beyond: Fixate! Really? No, no, it's true, it's true. We do, we do. Completely. Yeah, I mean, you know, the fact that they are different is great because if they were exactly the same it would be... Beyond Swarla: She's very, very good at apologising. She's very good at apologising. And it makes me wonder why that is. I think we can probably guess to some extent why she's so good at apologising. Because I think that she probably spent a lot of the last 20 years apologising, probably for nothing. Beyond: be like ⁓ well this is like watching the same thing. I don't know what are made by the what decisions are made by the actor and what are decisions made by the writer ⁓ and what put in the script. know, Ali has obviously decided that Carla is obsessed with Lisa's hair. ⁓ Laurie: Yeah, I suspect that might be the case as well. of, yeah, yeah. Beyond Swarla: Lisa seems to apologise for breathing sometimes ⁓ I think that's a symptom of her relationship, past relationship, but we're not going to really talk on that. Anyway, like, no problem, and then turns around, sees the warrant card in her ⁓ bag. Does have second thoughts? She has ⁓ a tiny, miniscule... Laurie: Hmm. Kirsty: Yes. Beyond: Which is great because that's an acting choice and whatever. ⁓ But with Heather and Val they've probably talked about it and they've decided they want to play ⁓ intimacy, ⁓ the kind of physicality of their relationship. So of course ⁓ going to be different because these are four different actors. Laurie: Looks like it, doesn't it? Yeah. Kirsty: Yeah, I love it. I feel a bit. Beyond Swarla: nanosecond of maybe I shouldn't have nicked it and then she's like yeah yeah it's fine and just just wanders off and and ⁓ know ⁓ Lisa's like I'm going to bed and they have a kiss and they say I love you I love you too it's sweet and then Lisa goes to bed Jodie leaves Carla presumably was going to work before the breakfast so Kirsty: Yeah. Yes, yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly that. And that's what I love about having, you know, pairs out there, two couples out there to be able to, you know, tune into and watch and enjoy it really. Yeah, that's why I'm watching them both. That's why I've given into rivalry. And remember, I love football, so I was big into rivalry. Beyond Swarla: If she's going back to work, who the hell's looking after Connie? Laurie: That's a point. Yeah, why was Jodie leaving at that point? That doesn't make any sense. Surely they need her as of then, that point. Maybe Connie is going. Do remember, was ⁓ spoilers a little while ago which said that Connie's going to be in the. I think Connie did go into the factory, didn't she? And one of the did look after her for a little bit. But I thought we'd see that scene. Perhaps what's. Beyond Swarla: Makes no sense, makes no sense at all. Yeah, at that point, yeah. ⁓ Beyond: ⁓ well yeah. I'm not even going to ask you what team you support. I don't care. I do care but I'm not going to ask you. So do you think there's anything missing in the depth of the portrayals of these relationships? Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Laurie: that happened there, Connie did actually go to the factory with Carla, because what else could you do? That's one of the stitches to look after it, a sec. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: yeah yeah maybe i mean you know lisa lisa needs her sleep bless her bless her poor baby night shifts will you know basically ruin your life so she needs her sleep ⁓ i don't know don't know ⁓ so someone had some bright sparks also noticed that kala doesn't wear any other rings on her left hand now apart from her engagement ring which i think is interesting Kirsty: I don't think anything's missing. Laurie: Absolutely, yeah. Kirsty: unless I was nitpicking, I guess. And I don't want to do that. Something that I would like to see out there personally, and it's not for me, I suppose, close relative going through transgender. Laurie: Oh these fans are super observant sometimes, Like that is not not... That's not something that I... noticed to be completely honest with you. I... I... Oh no thinking about it. No, yeah thinking about it. There was quite a few rings wasn't there? Yeah, no, yeah. Okay. Beyond Swarla: yeah they're great are we Yeah. Beyond: Okay. Beyond Swarla: She has some clunky rings. has rings. I think they might be Alice. But has a ring that she wears on her middle finger that is quite chunky. And ⁓ everyone well, a few people, thank you to those people who are super observant, noticed that not wearing it. Well, she wasn't it the last time we saw her. Whether it's back, ⁓ who knows, at point, but don't know. But at the moment, her only ring is her engagement ring. And it is a rock. Kirsty: something I don't see out there. suppose it would nice to see that, I guess, ⁓ for to try and help that person, I guess. ⁓ Beyond: Yeah, I don't think we have any any of that in any of the soaps do we? That's probably the next thing that needs to be addressed isn't it transitioning ⁓ Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean that would that would be that would make him My gosh the Facebook mums would go berserk I think but anyway Kirsty: No, no. Yes. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: that thing, isn't it? Lisa must love her very, much. Laurie: Well, I think, I was going say, if you want Carla Connor to say yes to you, then it's going to be, you know, you need a rock at least like sizeable, isn't it? Do know what mean? Beyond: Never mind, we don't care about them. ⁓ it's terrible. Absolute cesspit. Yeah, that would complete the representation, it? To a certain extent, you know, because we've got lesbian couples, we've got gay couples, what we don't have is a transitioning as yet. I we have had in Coronation Street. Beyond Swarla: yeah yeah it's got to be at least two carrots yeah so that was swallow well done we managed it we managed to make ⁓ i say we managed to make a very very short amount of swallow at last a very long time but we're just going to go on to we're going to recap a little bit about the rest of corrie as well we're not going to go into as much detail clearly but ⁓ Kirsty: I do find Facebook's very negative. I've come off of it. ⁓ Yeah. Beyond: Hayley died in 2014 so that's like 12 years ago so yeah would be interesting um and how do you how do you in terms of representation actually um are we are they doing okay do think in East Enders and Coronation Street with with women loving women couples we're doing okay with that Beyond Swarla: Yeah, too much Corian, not enough Swallow is what I'm gonna say. Laurie: It's surprising, I think we talked about this before, think there's a surprising amount of storylines that are sort of bubbling away at the moment and also new ones which are starting to sort of come in as well. And I'm like, how are they doing this? Like with the runtimes that are slightly shorter now, it must be very difficult. it be so difficult ⁓ to juggle you know, to be like, right, okay, we need to move that story forward an inch, an inch, an inch, an inch. It's just, yeah. Kirsty: ⁓ Yeah, no, I do think so. I do feel in my opinion, that we ⁓ as lesbian couple, we're very fun and playful. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. I mean, when you think about it, when you think about it and what they're doing, it's actually quite clever how they're doing it. Because, you know, I ⁓ to, at the beginning of January, I was thinking, I was like, ⁓ my God, five storylines in 22 minutes. ⁓ is ridiculous. But actually now, when I'm looking back at it now, I'm thinking they're still doing five storylines in 22 minutes. And I'm not, I'm not bothered. I'm not as bothered about it as I was. I actually think that they... Beyond: Yeah, yeah. Kirsty: I think could come across a bit more maybe. Yeah, don't how... ⁓ Laurie: Yeah? Yeah. Beyond: I mean, yeah, I, yeah, I think, I think, I think both couples need to have a bit of a laugh, if I'm honest. Because it's just, it's not representative of Laurie: Mm-hmm. Beyond Swarla: doing it better potentially or maybe I've just got used to it you know I maybe just got used to it Kirsty: Yes, yeah. Laurie: Yeah, I think you can look at it both ways, can't you? I think you've got to pay attention, I think, a bit more because you're getting little bits all the time that's building that bigger picture rather than those hour-long episodes they used to do and of smash out a big chunk of the storyline, wouldn't they, to further it along? I don't know. I just... Beyond: of two women together in a relationship that they don't have any fun. ⁓ I very rarely. As I said, I don't watch Shook and Eve, but I know with ⁓ Carl Lisa, they have had very little to smile about for the last, I don't know, six months. So that's not representative of a lot of lesbian couples. Not calling them lesbian couple, calling them a queer female couple. You know what I mean. Get the gist right. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, because I found myself thinking the other day, how the hell, in the Carl storyline, how the hell does he know what Theo did with Billy because he was having a cardiac arrest at the side of the road in Corridale? And then what I realised was I had completely forgotten that he overheard Theo talking to Billy in his coffin in The Undertakers. Kirsty: Yes. Yep. Beyond: Yeah, this is such a mouthful. So haven't had a lot to smile about and I know that Suki and E split up for a bit and they ⁓ haven't a lot to smile about either because know Suki's grandson has been know beaten up and epilepsy and ⁓ Ravi's having and you see I do watch it, ⁓ some of Beyond Swarla: and that's how he knows, not because he was there, because I got so confused, like, how does Carl know? Because he was like half dead at the side of the road and Asher was giving him, you know, CPR. But no, he heard Theo and I'd completely forgotten that, completely forgotten that. So yeah, are, they do fit a lot in to a very ⁓ amount of time and we do forget stuff and that was quite an important thing to forget because it's going to come up, isn't it, obviously? And it has come up as of this morning. Laurie: Yes, yes, yep. Kirsty: Yes. Laurie: Yep. Kirsty: sounds like you're watching more than I am. ⁓ Beyond: ⁓ And they split and they did split for a while because of you know, Suki tried to convince You know to have a child to is it a van? A Varnie's is it a Varnie's child? Yeah, so yeah So not had a really good time of it either And I it's a soap. It is a soap at the end of the day, ⁓ but there Kirsty: Yes. Avani, yeah. Avani, yeah. Beyond Swarla: we've got this, so let's ⁓ very briefly about the various storylines that going on. We've got the Debbie storyline. We had Lou in prison. Lou was causing a distraction. The and Debbie scenes have been amazing and we're going to miss them. I don't know what, I don't know how you feel about that. Kirsty: Yep. Beyond: in Kinesis Street there are there are humour there is a there is a fair amount of humour in it most of the time but it seems to have got very very dark lately for really and I think it ⁓ that to change yeah Laurie: Oh, absolutely. I love Debbie as a character. She's lush. And I think it's just so sad, this storyline, because at some point, you know, that character is going to be killed off. And I really like how they've redeemed Lou a little bit, because, you know, during this bad girls adjacent storyline, it's been, for those who can remember, cracking show back in the day. I really like that they've done that. They've given, they've said, you know, Kirsty: Mm. even just like the little scenes where I haven't seen it with Suki and Eve but Carla tickling Lisa that was brilliant and just a little bit bit more of that playfulness I don't feel like we take ourselves too seriously I think we you know we do do a bit of a lot of banter and yeah just to get that that in really for me anyway Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Ugh, don't! Yeah. ⁓ ⁓ yeah, absolutely awesome. Laurie: Like I said, this redemption arc for Lou, it's just a shame that we won't see them anymore. Has Farrah left Coronation Street now? Is that sort of a done thing? she, so she's probably not likely to come back. ⁓ that's. Beyond: Yeah, same for me. My wife has told me I'm not allowed to make her laugh the moment because she's got really bad toothache and every time she laughs it really hurts. ⁓ not allowed to make her laugh. So just given the fact that she said that about 20 times today, it's well clearly we have fun, know, ⁓ there's lot of fun, there's a lot of laughter in our house and there's not a lot there. Beyond Swarla: yeah yeah she's posted on instagram she's posted on instagram that she's finished filming for now i mean that the potential to bring her back is going to always be there because she's only in prison you know and she will be released at some point i mean the thing is with lou is that her storyline was an abuse storyline as another one you know there's lots of people who felt that she was unfairly treated in Kirsty: you Laurie: Yeah. Beyond: laughter in their house. Kirsty: Yeah, yeah it doesn't have to be big it's just ⁓ those little bits in. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: storyline to go into prison in the first place but she is there and and her scenes with Debbie have been amazing and yes there is a redemption arc for her definitely you know I think the redemption arc has has basically come and gone now you know but but ⁓ you have to ask yourself if she actually needed to be redeemed because what she did was wrong but ⁓ Beyond: I mean we do see, I mean yeah I don't want to be unfair, we do see some of it. They're, you know, they are very sweet with each other and you know that there is, there is, you know, some playful teasing ⁓ goes on. I we'd all just like to see a bit more of it quite frankly. Kirsty: Yeah. Yep, Beyond Swarla: circumstances and her history will have dictated some of her actions. Beyond: contentious issue maybe thoughts on fandom rivalry on social media ⁓ that's the best thing to do really it's the mature thing to do Laurie: Yeah, absolutely. So going back to when, just very quickly when she was being interviewed by Lisa, you know, considering what Lisa was about to go through, because it was before, wasn't it? I think she was, think Lisa was overly harsh towards Lou. you remember those interview scenes she came across as really like, and I'm like, hang on a minute, you know, this is, know, ⁓ Lou's Kirsty: Yeah, ⁓ see it, I'll just ignore. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Kirsty: Yeah, and I suppose from my point of view because I've always been that EastEnders over any of them to actually now... ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But there was that scene when she was leaving, scene when she was leaving the police station and Lisa asks her, you know, ⁓ are you lying for your husband? And I think you've answered your own question. And I think it gave Lisa pause to think, hang on a minute, this probably isn't what I think it is. Kirsty: taking I guess a thought process of, not a thought process but guess what Heather Pierce said made me think, made me intrigued ⁓ and that there is another couple that is similar to what I'm already watching. Why not? Why not getting ⁓ involved and watch of it? Yeah. ⁓ Laurie: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: potentially. think Lisa knew what it was by the end of that kind of whole stuff. didn't... so Lou didn't suffer any consequences because of what Mick did. She only suffered the consequences because of what she did to Gary. ⁓ which, the story had moved on a lot by then. yeah. Anyway, it a story at the time and I think that I honestly think we'll see Lou back. Beyond: Do you see the comparisons made? I mean I don't see that but do you see that on social media? Laurie: Mmm. Kirsty: No, I don't see a lot of it. You do see the rivalry between obviously the soaps and you do get, I have seen that negative with, ⁓ Suki Eve have been talking about the ⁓ adopting and that's been a storyline for a while now, the process. Beyond Swarla: If the fans have got anything say about it then we will. Laurie: I hope so. And also, hilarious. Like, you know, I've watched some of her TikToks. She's brilliant. I this isn't the end. I hope at some point maybe they can ⁓ launch appeal. You know, use that soap magic and get her out of prison, get her back in Corrie. Beyond: Yeah, Kirsty: And then obviously we've got the news of the baby being on the doorstep. So I guess there's going to be people, you know, worrying about that. Beyond Swarla: I think we'll all cheer when that day happens. yeah, so we've got Debbie at home from now. You know, she got out. They mentioned her appeal ⁓ ⁓ twice. And then the next thing we see is she's on the swings. So, ⁓ I'm assuming ⁓ the appeal was right. ⁓ Beyond: There are people saying, you know, I can't believe that's while I've got a baby before Suki and Eve, but it's not really the same thing, is it? Really? I mean, adoption can take up to two years to complete that process and this baby is just dumped. So it's like, it's not really the same thing. Laurie: ⁓ my God, ⁓ I've got to talk about this. I've got, this is, this made me laugh because I was like, the swing, the music, the fade to white, are we in a dream sequence? I was like, what the hell is going on? Because Debbie was out and that's the first we hear about it. It was quite a shock. I was like, ⁓ okay. And again, like I know sometimes, again, because of these runtimes, they're cutting down a lot of that sort of like. Kirsty: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Hahaha Kirsty: But I'm honest, in my situation where I'm at with obviously the IVF, bring it on, bring them both on, let them both have babies, ⁓ them have them the same way. I don't care, but I want to hear it and see it all. I want to ⁓ the comparisons, ⁓ even comparisons, but you know, how they deal with a baby being on the doorstep and how they're ⁓ a baby. Bring it all on. I want to see it all. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: you you Laurie: you you've got to fill the gaps a little bit. But again, that was like, oh, so that all happened then. That's OK. OK. Yeah, we'll just go with that. Fine. Not a good question. It's fine. I don't think this is a dream sequence. It might be. But OK. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. You Beyond: Yeah cool, cool, good, you've got anything else that you wanted to say about any of this. Okay, yeah. Beyond Swarla: yeah it was like blink and you miss it and and now ⁓ god and now we've got this whole dynamic with Carl and Ronnie and Debbie and the whole riot all the Ryan stuff that came up finding out that Carl's trying to know steal her money again Kirsty: I did want to, I had a question on Corridale, Corridale and this one, so bear in mind, I really enjoyed it. I thought it was awesome. It was like a cinematic, know, cinema effects and loved seeing how they pulled the car out. Everything was brilliant. But since then I've been thinking, it get in the way of Beyond: Yep. Beyond Swarla: but him managing up to very much up to even today's episode where they're dancing in the Chariot Square to wiggle his way back in to her life because she's very very vulnerable ⁓ Laurie: Yeah, I think they needed to revisit that storyline and ramp it back up again, didn't they? Because we're getting quite close to one of those villains being murdered. So, yeah. Kirsty: only seeing a short bit of the kind of the ending of that storyline that Swallow was in at the time because I think it was just over nine minutes all all and would we have seen more if it hadn't have been ⁓ pulled into corridor yeah Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah. And I think we'll talk about it when we talk about spoilers about what happens with Carl next week as well. But poor old Debbie with trying to play hostess ⁓ with the women who are who were, you know, meeting with ⁓ and Mary. It all very got a lot of secondhand embarrassment for Debbie. Poor thing. And then. ⁓ Beyond: A crossover. I think by that point the die-hard Swallow fans were so sick to death of seeing Becky that all we wanted to do was not have to see her anymore. I'm not sure I was worried too much about it. If anything I thought that we didn't... Beyond Swarla: the day after, you know, with Summer and Asher and Poor old Debbie. Poor old Debbie. Not old. That's the problem, isn't it? She's not, and she's my age, and that's scary. Kirsty: No. Beyond: see enough of Carla and I still do not to this day know exactly how she got injured ⁓ know what ⁓ injuries she had and and actually none it seem apart from some cuts and bruises which is totally unrealistic considering what happened to her yeah I there was a lot going on ⁓ Kirsty: Yes, yeah. Laurie: Yeah, like I said, I really like the character and it's just, you know, inevitable, isn't it, that we're going to see a very sad scene probably happening. don't know. depends how long they want to draw this out, don't they? my thought is that it's going to be a Christmas day tearjerker. That's no, no, that's what I think. Yeah. Kirsty: injury she had. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think it. don't i was gonna say it's gonna it's gonna yeah it's gonna run to the end of the year it's definitely gonna run to the end of the year maybe even further but yes there's gonna be something that happens over the christmas period isn't there and and ⁓ gosh you know the fact that she forgot that ronnie was telling her what they're having for dinner and you know it's already happening it's already starting isn't it it's just gonna be absolutely horrendous but i do know that we're gonna get suda veini at her very very best she's going to be Beyond: in Corridale there was a you know obviously they had to had to be balanced so you've got 45 minutes you've got two soaps so they're only going to get 22 minutes each so to have nine minutes out of 22 is actually quite a lot of time and a lot of people think that they brought the Becky storyline in to primarily for Corridale so the fact that it the fact that it had to conclude Laurie: Yep. Kirsty: ⁓ really? Laurie: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Well she's, she already is absolutely fantastic when she, the scene when she got home with Carl from the hospital and you know the very vacant look on her face. Not, not vacant because she's not remembering stuff but the sheer sadness of it and then the next scene, the next day when she's been back, been to the consultant she's all upbeat about it and she's joking about it and Ronnie is really struggling. So it's like, you know, it's just like this seesaw of emotions going on with her. Beyond: Yeah, yeah, there's a lot there's a lot of thoughts out there obviously a lot of opinions ⁓ of the main ones seems to be perpetuating is is the fact that they brought her in specifically to to to up to the corridor episode ⁓ Yeah Laurie: Mmm. Kirsty: Okay, I feel like we would have got a bit more maybe scenery in the hospital and you know. Beyond: Yeah, I think Well I Think I think that because corridor was just one episode and you couldn't kind of cross them over more than one episode ⁓ the only one didn't see a lot, you know a lot in the hospital a lot of the aftermath and it needs to bring the whole cast back onto the couples as soon as possible Beyond Swarla: and everyone around her. going to be amazing, So something we haven't seen of this week, but we did see last week, was this whole Megan and Maggie and the lost baby, the lost baby, the baby that got lost or was terminated as we found out. Megan, Megan, Megan, Megan. Kirsty: Obviously they've got to have a break, right? They've done a lot of work. But that corridor would have been... Laurie: Bye. Kirsty: Yeah. Laurie: This is going back to sort of our first point about, you know, why didn't Lisa just Nick Maggie regarding the assault? This is reason why, like Maggie goes to like El Flatto crapo, wherever that is, ⁓ to Megan's ⁓ to shit up, doesn't she? She goes there, she's being like, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, giving her all threatening and whatever. She does that twice. If Lisa had nicked her and Beyond: you know, do more than one episode of Crossover. Yeah, I mean it was an it was an experiment. I think it worked very, well personally. was great. ⁓ loved the idea that none of us got to see it before it actually dropped eight o'clock that night, that there was no early ⁓ that everyone watched it together. It was a real sense of community within Soaps ⁓ and the fandoms. Yeah, I ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Kirsty: Thank Yes. Beyond Swarla: You Laurie: put bail conditions on, she wouldn't have been able to do that. She would have breached bail and then she would have been nicked again. Do you know what mean? Like it doesn't... And they know there's a risk. There's a risk that the Odriskos might retaliate against Megan because what have Megan's done to Will? So that would be my thought on it. Beyond: I thought it was great, it was exhausting, I had to watch it several times before I actually figured out exactly what had gone on. But yeah, I found it was good. Kirsty: So I did watch the the Oa episode and I did the the rewatches of just the the Swallow clips. I guess that's because that's what I'm into and focus on. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, I mean, clearly, clearly we are being led in these in all of these storylines, we're being led to make assumptions, not make assumptions, but make deductions as to who's going to kill who, know, what who's going to die. And then when we find out who's who's died, who's been murdered, who it was that did it. So this is the whole this is the whole story. And we're being literally being Laurie: Mm-hmm. Beyond: Yeah. Yeah, three weeks, I think. Kirsty: But yeah, afterwards I just felt that they would have done a lot of work, know, was it two, three weeks, night shoots they were saying. Yeah, ⁓ that, you know, takes a lot out and I wouldn't be able to then do more for their story because they do need time off and to fair, and that made me think that ⁓ I they would come together than ⁓ what they did do. So I was, although it's still... Beyond Swarla: fed like cattle or like sheep into a sheep dip where we're basically being herded a narrow into a very narrow kind of corridor ⁓ possibilities and we're being led, aren't we, you know, to make assumptions. Laurie: And there we go, blindlessly following each other, mooing and barring away down this single track path. Beyond Swarla: Well, I think that, you know, because today we had the, you know, the Theo Murder Club meeting in the Rovers today, you know, and they couldn't make it any more obvious if they tried with, what was it, Christina, George? Kirsty: controversy that it was quick I was still surprised that it that it was longer than what it was if that makes sense I don't know if I'm Beyond: Yeah, a lot of people thought, ⁓ you know, they'll be back in each other's arms the day after, but that's... Kirsty: Yeah. Beyond: wasn't the case. mean, I think it was like three weeks or something, which for some was too short, and some was too long. So, you know, you're never going to please everybody all the time. And I think the lack of discussion around the aftermath of it has obviously, you know, you know, some people have taken, taken umbrage with that and have object, you know, object to that, fact that it's not really been dealt with properly. ⁓ Laurie: I have thought about, yes, I've had a thought about this and I'm like, again, they're purposely doing this, that circular protection around Todd, isn't it? So any one of those people who are just like, poor Todd, who've realised what's going on is potentially going to potentially kill Theo. Theo could be one of those victims, right? Kirsty: No. Beyond Swarla: Yep. Yep. It's murder on the Orange Express basically, they all did it whichever Agatha Christie it is. ⁓ Laurie: thought the same thing, but I was thinking the Ides of March. was like, you know, it's going to be one of those things where they all just like et tu, Brutay? And you know, they've all done it. Like, yeah. I thought the same thing. Kirsty: Yeah. Beyond: But who knows, they have that in their pocket now, don't they? They have the whole potential PTSD, Carla, you know, having talked the issues surrounding her kidnapping, maybe coming up at a later date, because sometimes these things get buried and then they suddenly, you know, come up to the surface. So I guess in some ways they ⁓ have you know, because with the baby, for instance, Beyond Swarla: hmm they all did it you know there is always that possibility so yeah so so yeah we've got we've got that the as i say then megan and maggie and will obviously being you know because then you've got this ⁓ well is it maggie that dies and is it will that kills her because you know it for intensive purposes maggie has has killed will's child will is will is a child or ⁓ know Beyond: There was a passing comment, there was a comment made a year ago that Mandy was pregnant and then nothing, nothing was said about anything. from once when Mandy got arrested and suddenly it just pops up like some demon and now they've got deal with it. So potentially ⁓ that could be that they do with Carla's kidnapping. ⁓ They do to do that. Laurie: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: also and his emotions are all over the place and so are we being led to believe that it might be Maggie and it might be Will who does it or is it Ben who does it who finds out that his da is not his da? It's it's there's a lot a lot ⁓ Laurie: ⁓ god, Jim Mcdonald your dad, so he is. I just can't stop saying that. I just, you have to excuse my awful. Jim Mcdonald, Jim Mcdonald your dad, so he is. I just can't stop saying it like the whole way through because we knew it was coming, right? I think a lot of us twigged that way back before, you know, but yeah. Kirsty: Yeah, see, I see the, this is how I see the baby storyline potentially going, that they will get Carla and the baby attached and then pull it away. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, of course, yeah. Months, ⁓ With the whole, ⁓ Maggie saw something on the sideboard in the barlows, think people have been talking about it since then. Beyond: Yeah, yeah, I suspect so. I mean, obviously we haven't seen any of those scenes yet. We're recording this. It's still February, even though this probably won't go out till April, Who knows? Kirsty: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: But then, so let's talk a little bit about the Theo and Todd thing. Not too much, because it's awful. Todd, We know that Todd ⁓ goes the police next week, which we'll talk about in spoilers, but was it I can't remember now. ⁓ We're recording on Friday on, what is it, you say, 10th of April. Theo is enjoying far too much with this thing with Sarah. Kirsty: Yes. ⁓ What do you think to them married soon? I don't know if that's the right question. ⁓ Beyond: It is soon. It soon. It's very lesbian. ⁓ that lesbian because I was with my partner for eight years before we got married so it have to be quick. But this is so bland. Come on. This happens the time. I do worry about what is next, you know, because they've had so many huge storylines. Beyond Swarla: you know, when Sarah gets caught in the bedroom and they're having a cup of tea, it was so disturbing. Theo was absolutely having the time of his life just making Todd and Sarah utterly squirm in their seats. It was horrendous. And then, you know, Todd not knowing when his punishment is going to come, you know, he's now just sitting there. And today, I don't know, you might know this. Laurie: Mm. Kirsty: yeah yeah that's that's right Beyond: It's like, what do do with them now? What can do with them? Happily married, living in number six. What's next? Well, you'll go straight back to EastEnders, won't you? All right. Kirsty: Yep. If they pull the plug on them too soon, will... will be gone forever. Don't do it. Don't do it. yeah, I do like the Betsy and Lauren and coming together recently. It's really... love that. I do think... hoping... I don't know if this is more wishful. Laurie: ⁓ yes. Beyond Swarla: obviously Todd was sitting on the end of the bed today this morning's episode was the bedroom mirror broken because it looked like it looked like the bedroom mirror had been cracked and I'm like okay so what happened yeah yeah I don't know some Laurie: Potentially, yeah. I think, you know, I with this, Dave, ⁓ I have to say the casting is perfect for Theo because he's this, you know, from the exterior, this charming, good-looking chap, and he's massive, isn't he? He's tall, he's very muscular, he's very imposing. And, you know, straight away, there's, you know, there's little Sarah being like, ⁓ shit, is he, you know, you can see, is he going to do something to me? We know what, you know. Kirsty: thinking or but I'm hoping Ryan's got something to do with the body that's going to be found. Beyond: ⁓ okay. I think a lot of people want Ryan to have a decent storyline of his own. Because since his attack, which has been a long time ago now, he's not been really part of it. He's not had a huge part to play in any storyline. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Kirsty: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Yep. Kirsty: Yeah, I want Ryan to kill Carl. Yes. Yep. Laurie: he has and I think they've just got the casting with him just yes ⁓ brilliant isn't it because yeah Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Beyond: So yeah, that will be interesting. I don't think rivalry has any place in fandoms, if I'm honest. don't think you can lift your ship ⁓ by tearing another one down. I think everyone's entitled to opinions. Beyond Swarla: yeah yeah so he yes he's physically overpowering as well as emotionally overpowering ⁓ and you can imagine what he what he could do to Todd if he really wanted to my gosh ⁓ my gosh let's not talk about that anymore Kirsty: Yeah, definitely. Yeah, ⁓ you say it's good to have rivalry out there or would you say... ⁓ Laurie: ⁓ yeah, absolutely. was, just was a scene, and this, ⁓ felt quite during it. know when Todd was doing his ironing, was that last week or this week? And Theo eyes the iron, and then Todd grabs it, and I did think for a minute, do you remember when it happened in EastEnders, little Mo and Trevor? Do you remember that? she, ⁓ it did end well, so you know, if Todd's been watching EastEnders, then you can't blame him, can you really? ⁓ Kirsty: Yes. Beyond: and no one should shoot them down for having them. I think that two things can exist in the same space. I that those two, ⁓ you let's not talk about vanity when Emmerdale had Vanessa and Charity together. The rivalry in fandoms then was, you know, existed, let's just say it existed. ⁓ We should be Beyond Swarla: Yeah. ⁓ gotcha. Yeah. Yes, yes I do, yeah. Yeah. No. No, but yeah, I did notice that, I absolutely did. Yeah, he grabbed the iron before Theo could use it as a weapon against him basically. ⁓ Because that's what his mind is, that's where his mind is going whenever Theo asks him a question or says anything to him about it all. Yeah, it's terrible. Kirsty: Sure. Laurie: Yeah. Beyond: We should be grateful that we have more than one know, it's great that we have maybe maybe saying it we should be grateful is it's too much but I'm delighted. We've got more than one sapphic couple in soaps. I would like I mean, I know they have one in Hollyoaks as well. you know, I would like to see more Because it's Laurie: Mm, awful. Beyond Swarla: I'm glad it's coming to an end, I really am glad it's coming to an end, whatever that end will be, yeah, might not be... we might not get Theo down the guineal in a body bag, but I'm assuming that we'll get him gone at some point, which'll be good. So we've got some loads of little nuggets of stuff that we've seen. Kirsty: Yes, that, Laurie: Me too, me too. Yep. Beyond: reflective, it would be more reflective of real life if there was more than one. let's not be greedy. ⁓ Kirsty: Yeah and also I think that you know when I look back at the programmes that did enjoy watching the I didn't watch all of the telly that out there you know you know lesbian but did catch you know a few and I think the gaps in between have been quite big. Beyond Swarla: We've got the Tim and Sally and Tricia thing going on. Sally's a bit of a bully to Tim, isn't ⁓ ⁓ mean, in a nice way, but he's everything now. And I think it's good, you know, it is good that he is. Laurie: You know what, it's, it's, ⁓ this a few times during the last sort two weeks when they've sort of peppered these conversations in. Like there's a scene with Steve and Tim and Brian are chatting about Trisha and it seems like a bit of a free for all that anybody can just go up to Tim and be like ⁓ sorry to hear about your childhood sexual abuse and I'm like that's not that that obviously that wouldn't happen in real life would it because people like ⁓ my gosh you know everybody's entitled to their privacy and perhaps Kirsty: so to have two and it's ⁓ know been running for a ⁓ of years now ⁓ I caught up ⁓ watched it all from September now. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Beyond: I mean until Swala got together, apart from a very brief fling with Nina and Asha, there was no lesbian or loving women relationship since Kate and Rana which was like 2017, 2018 maybe, so they'd gone quite a long time and now of course there's nothing in Emmerdale either. Beyond Swarla: yeah yeah Laurie: We don't know how this has affected him. He's acting like, you know, I was a lad and I'm over it. It's fine. But it's obviously not, it? Because this storyline is now playing out. And I'm like, come on, guys, just... Beyond Swarla: Yeah, you know, initially he was very much of the opinion that, know, having had that relationship with Tricia was like every 14 year old boy's dream, but he was 14, you know, and he's now only realizing that, it was something else entirely and it wasn't. Beyond: So yeah, it's they need to fix it. ⁓ Yeah. Good. Okay. Anything else you want to say? Laurie: Mmm. Kirsty: Yeah, definitely. Yeah it's just been joyous to be able to watch the both. So yeah, it's been good. Beyond Swarla: it wasn't what he thought it was to start with. Now looking back on it as an adult because he looks at Will and says you know ⁓ much of a kid he is and you know he's making some realizations. I know if we're gonna what we're gonna get with this going forward. Kirsty: yeah, there was... What your theory on ⁓ them the wedding... sooner? Beyond: Did they bring the wedding sooner? Well, they didn't, but I haven't brought it forward, have they? Well, having it so soon into their relationship. I don't know. ⁓ Er... Laurie: I think there's a weird sort of discrepancy between if you've got, if there's a 14 year old girl was being abused by a 20 odd year old man, know, so, oh my God, this is horrific, you it's a child. But then, you know, a very old school way of thinking, people used to be like, you know, a young lad, you know, and a grown woman, you know, go on my son, you lucky boy. It's so weird, it's a completely different attitude. Kirsty: Sorry, did I say bring it forward? ⁓ mean, yes, having it so soon. Thank you. Beyond Swarla: ⁓ yeah. Yeah. Beyond: They've been together what they will have been together what 18 months well apart from the enormous Becky shaped shit bomb that was landed in their laps move faster ⁓ soaps than they do in real life they move faster You they got engaged in August I hadn't been together a year at that point But I the thing is with they're both Beyond Swarla: ⁓ it's just... Kirsty: Yeah. Laurie: And I think that's what Tim is trying to justify it as. It's just like, you know, I was a lad, was lucky. It's abuse, abuse is abuse, you know what mean? So. Kirsty: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Beyond Swarla: But yeah, you're right. You're absolutely right. If you swap the genders around, it becomes incredibly obvious what it is. You you just have to swap them around. it's an interesting insight into our society and our culture and how we see it and how that, you know, 14 year old lads are almost conditioned to see it differently somehow because it's a man. Beyond: mature women they both know their own minds they're both professional and bright and intelligent people if they are falling in love with each other and they know that they want to be together forever you know time doesn't really time doesn't have any effect on that relationship because they know what they want and they're like well why would we wait ⁓ Kirsty: Yeah. Laurie: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: you know because they're a male not a female. We could get very deep but we're probably not going to. Laurie: It's so strange, know, ⁓ we could, was gonna say on a lighter note, when was watching this, I was like, and this could be because I'm an uncultured swine, but what the hell is a hazelnut yogurt? I have never heard of these. And I thought, is this a Waitrose thing? Because you're not gonna find them in fresh goods, are you Tim? And then I had to Google it. was like, they're a thing. I mean, that's me, obviously. Beyond: know why would we wait so I don't I don't really feel like it's too soon I say I do I do worry what they're gonna do with them afterwards you know what the next storyline will be but as far as thinking that the wedding's too soon I yeah I'm I'm okay with that I'm okay with it whether we'll survive it is another matter Kirsty: Yeah. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: What you mean? I don't know though if you're not going to see it in Fresh Coats because clearly you get smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches in Fresh Coats so you Laurie: That's true, but then I wonder you know should fresco ⁓ my god, I'm gonna get hyper focused on frescoes now But shouldn't have gone bust when they put a Sainsbury's on the cobbles Do you know what mean? Because everybody's gonna be going in there for their meal deals Everybody's gonna in there for their picky bits. Do you know what I mean? But I digress Kirsty: that is true. But there was something that I'd spoken about ⁓ on Do you mind me talking about that? Beyond Swarla: ⁓ I think I think but Sainsbury's local I mean it's a tiny Sainsbury's come on you're not gonna get you're not gonna go for your for your weekly shop in Sainsbury's not in that Sainsbury's yeah yeah Beyond: You could talk about that for the people that don't know I also run a TikTok channel where I obsess about Swallow and talk about Coronation Street so there you go yes, fire away. Laurie: I'd say Frescoes is for your big shop. and then Sainsbury's is for your like little bit shop. You're in between your shops. Kirsty: Yes. your, I the algorithm through your into the Swallow ⁓ I was And I suppose at beginning I was like, didn't see myself as big into it. So I'd swipe by and there was, yeah, ⁓ kept coming in. Don't It coming in. Beyond Swarla: It's your picky mix, yeah. And your hazelnut yogurts. Okay, so yeah, any other storylines do you want to talk about? mean, there's Jodie messing with Bethany and Daniel. ⁓ my God, actually, yeah, let's talk about that. Daniel being drunk and a twat. Daniel should never drink. There should never be an alcoholic drink anywhere near his mouth because he is... Laurie: Can you eat some of the yogurts? Beyond: How dare you! Kirsty: And the first one that took, I suppose, drew me ⁓ was you talking about the, so it's doing your drains. ⁓ Yeah. Yes. ⁓ you, yeah. was talking about that and that drew me in that I was like, she was going wrong with the drains. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: honestly when he's had a drink in him he's just an absolute swine to everybody Laurie: That was just uncalled for isn't it and I think that Well, I was on the fence with this because I felt that he had the conversation with Ken didn't he and he was just like, you What's sort of what's wrong with me? Where is me? I'm just like mate read the room like look what's going on your girlfriend's abusing a child That's the important part right now. The fact that you make poor Choices is on you. I was a bit kind of like I was like I said I was on the fence then I wasn't and then I was just like ⁓ ⁓ Beyond: ⁓ Yeah, that sounds like me. Yeah, I had problems with my sink. Yes, I did. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Beyond: Whatever works, whatever works. Yep. Yeah, yeah, I know. Kirsty: Yeah, it didn't sound like Swala and obviously you'd come up through that and so it took ⁓ maybe taking interest and it just so happened that it was around that time Carla was in the cupboard with Becky. Not with Becky but Becky's daughter in the cupboard. Yeah, so that I suppose you having a at home making me go, ⁓ what's ⁓ interested what's going on here? This isn't Swala. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: I think I did feel sorry for Daniel up until the point where he was a massive asshole to Bethany. ⁓ I felt that that conversation that he had with Ken was actually very important. And I think it was important what Ken said to him that, you know, Megan was very devious and conniving and, you know, clearly deceitful. Laurie: Mm. Kirsty: which then my one that I watched or came in was Lisa was going a run and yeah and then that that drew me in and then I just started ⁓ to tune in I watch every day now I do like it you bring in the bits where things might not going right you know yeah so Beyond Swarla: and that he shouldn't blame himself not seeing it. And I have to admit that the reason I felt like that was because I felt like that was maybe a conversation that Carla might have had with Lisa. Beyond: ⁓ yeah. Well, you know, people need to relate. Laurie: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: ⁓ it obviously different circumstances in a different dynamic, but I'm like, what Ken was saying, you know, it's not your fault that you didn't see it. You mustn't blame yourself. You know, those kinds of words, I just felt, know, I just, I just felt there was a, there was a dynamic in there that, that I would have liked to have seen with another couple. But anyway, so I did feel a bit sorry for Daniel, but as I say, ⁓ after what he said to Bethany and the way he reacted and the way he acted was just... Kirsty: Yes, yeah, yeah, I guess I do. So that was, that's what drew me in, I guess. Beyond: ⁓ it's nice of you to say thank you. Kirsty: that's alright. I do like you point out the bits that I hadn't seen and then I'll go back to the episode and ⁓ my god, here it is. I know right? I can't believe I didn't notice ⁓ Valentine's card. I was like, what? ⁓ did I not see that? Yeah. Beyond: ⁓ any excuse to rewatch come on. ⁓ okay yeah. Like I say forensic, forensically you know look at look at these things I literally watch them frame by frame. I'm completely balmy. What am I doing here? Right what am I doing? Right. Laurie: No. Beyond Swarla: and he does this all the time he's an absolute arse I've got no time for him okay ⁓ Ryan let's talk a little bit about Ryan and his little story line that he's had in this week with with Carl and Debbie he's such a king honestly he's he's he's looked after the hotel and and he's you know done Debbie a solid as they would say Laurie: He is, you know. Kirsty: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: by sure that the hotel is still running really well and he's clearly good at his job and he's clearly good at making margaritas which in my books makes him just the absolute perfect husband. Beyond: Kirsty, thank you so much joining us tonight, joining me tonight. ⁓ I really hope things go well with the IVF. ⁓ the next steps for you guys? Kirsty: I'm a little bit. Thank you. Laurie: He's just, like I said before, he's just this lovely character with such a big heart and he's really genuine. think out of the majority of the male characters in Corrie, he's not got this, not any negative sort of personality traits. He's just a really nice, genuine, kind guy. Kirsty: Friday got another consultation hopefully all that goes well that we'll head in the week after to hopefully have ⁓ the transplant ⁓ or egg in, yeah, fingers crossed. ⁓ yeah, all of that's, ⁓ forward to. ⁓ you. Beyond: Yeah, well, I it I hope it goes really well for you Thank you for sharing your views and for asking me some questions. That's nice. I don't know. I don't often get that Beyond Swarla: He's had his issues, obviously. When he got hooked on steroids, that was not a great storyline for him. I mean, it was a great storyline for him, but he wasn't very nice to some people. But he's grown a lot since then. Obviously, he had a lot to deal with when that storyline was airing. And he's come through that. he's a very well-rounded, mature... grown up basically and we haven't got a lot of those on the street if I'm honest yeah anyway so yeah let's hope for Ryan to have a okay if you could put Ryan with anybody in the street right now who would you put it with Laurie: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right. Beyond: so thank for joining us today. ⁓ Thank you for your insights into the differences and the similarities between Suki and Swala and how you got there. And long may your love affair with Swala and Suki continue. Laurie: Ooh, right now! That's quite tricky. me think. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Well, you know, any any female or male or whatever in the street, whether they're with a with another person or not at the moment. you who would you think your his ideal person would be? Kirsty: Yeah. Laurie: Hmm. I'm just trying to figure out now how old sort of... Beyond Swarla: don't worry about that doesn't matter to anyone else Laurie: No, I was thinking, I in like the, a lot of the younger female characters in Kori are teenage, they? So that's probably not... Beyond Swarla: ⁓ yeah well they're early 20s and he's 33 I think so yeah probably not so like you know the likes of Asher and stuff like that they're only about 22 something like that so yeah no probably not that age group Laurie: ⁓ okay. I genuinely think is bring just a really nice new character in for him someone who's not You know You know have a sort of like a B plot, you know I mean who's just like trying to I don't know do something awful Well, they're just someone genuine who comes in because he deserves it I think someone doesn't have that line to Carla He's just like I just want someone to look at me the way that you know, and she's like, yeah This is before I think Lisa and Carla are together and they're sort of having that sort of Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yep. yeah yeah ⁓ yeah yeah yeah just loves someone who just loves me for me he says someone who just loves me for me ⁓ Laurie: Yes. Yeah, there we go. That's what he deserves. think and I would bring in someone new to do that. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, okay, because I have to say that I can't see him with anyone else, anything, anybody. A lot of people say Alia or Glenda and I'm like, no, no, I don't see it. don't see it. She, he does deserve somebody. And I don't know if that somebody exists on the street at the moment, to be honest. Some people are saying Abby. Laurie: Mm-mm. No, yeah. Beyond Swarla: or Lou, potentially, but also, I don't know. ⁓ Well, I don't want to see Ryan with someone who has got issues, and literally everybody on the street has got issues, so we can't really put... Laurie: Well, this is, yeah, this is it. Any established character has now got quite a few issues, haven't they? So yeah, I don't think anybody's good enough for our Ryan on the street at the moment. So we'll protect him until someone new comes in. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, who knows what they'll No, no you're probably right. I mean I absolutely adore Glenda but I just don't think that that's the right dynamic. ⁓ Anyway we also got some long-lost sightings of Abby and Asher this week which was nice. Abby's spilling the tea everywhere basically making some doubt her own existence. Laurie: No, no, definitely not. But that sort of, yeah, Abby sort of dropping that little bit of that breadcrumb for Summer just starts then a whole sort of like chain reaction, doesn't it? Where Summer's just like, right, I am on this now. And I can see on my notes, I've referred to her as Midsummer Murders because she's like literally, you know, on it, isn't she? And at some point she then cracks it and she knows that Carl was driving the night of the crash. But I will say this. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Laurie: don't think it's fair that Debbie continued to take the blame for Billy's death because it obviously wasn't her fault. But, don't hate me for this, I am well and truly in the... Well, you might after this. am well and truly in the Carla... I am well and truly in the Carla Connor fan club. But technically, it's Carla's fault the bus crashed in the first place. Now hear me out, okay? So if Carla hadn't run into the middle of the road... Beyond Swarla: I wouldn't hate you. ⁓ go on. Laurie: Billy wouldn't have braked and swerved so sharply to flip the minibus onto this side. And without the subsequent impact from Carl's car, the fuel leak wouldn't have happened causing the fire, which Theo made sure Billy was strapped in killing him, which is the butterfly effect. It's actually Aaron and John's car that is the wrong side of the road facing towards the minibus, but the lights are on. So Billy would have seen that in plenty of time to stop. Cause if you've got two big headlights, literally on your side of road shining towards you. Beyond Swarla: ⁓ yeah. Laurie: then we're led to believe is Carla did it because she thought the money rest was about to hit ⁓ Lisa and Betsy's car. But it's nowhere near that side of the road. So I'm just saying it's actually. Beyond Swarla: you Right It was very when it tipped when it tipped over it was very very close to Lisa's Lisa and Becky's car. ⁓ I I don't disagree that Carla caused the the bus to tip over. ⁓ however, I No, no, I don't no I don't I don't disagree that that's what caused it Laurie: ⁓ god, we can have a lynch mob after us now if you forget me! Mm. Beyond Swarla: What I do disagree with in fact actually I could say actually that Billy wasn't looking at the road at the time because it all happened very very fast and Todd actually shouted it he touted at Billy Yeah, he did he shouted at Billy to watch the road and that was when it happened So actually when you say that they I can't believe we're talking about this, but when I when you say that That they would have seen that Billy would have seen the headlights ⁓ if Carla hadn't been in the middle of the road. I'm not entirely sure that that's true either Laurie: He did have one eye on Todd, didn't he? Yeah. Beyond Swarla: I think that there are several different strands to this, but I think it's very important as a Carla Connor fan also to that Theo could have saved Billy but didn't. Laurie: Oh, 100 % it is, yes, is the... Beyond Swarla: And they were actually any of people that could have Billy and didn't. There were any number of them in that van at the time who could have thought about and other themselves for a single second and ⁓ checked to that Billy could get out. ⁓ Laurie: You know, I have so many thoughts on this, but I think we're gonna have to do like a Corriedale special because there's just so much that I need to talk through with someone just to work it through. But I'm absolutely with you on that. Theo 100%, let's be clear, Theo is 100 % responsible for Billy's death. It's just the fact that some has just blamed Debbie for driving the car which snuck into the minibus once at the top. Beyond Swarla: Okay. Okay, well, I'll put it on the schedule. Laurie: That didn't make a lot of sense to me because that's not sort of, you know, no. That's true. Beyond Swarla: She doesn't know the whole story, does she? She doesn't know what we know as it stands at the moment. She doesn't know what we know. But we'll talk about that a little bit in spoilers because that's going to come up next week. so any more Corrie stuff before we hit the interview? Laurie: Yes, just quickly, won't dwell on this, because it's a storyline that I think has been rumbling on for quite a while, but the Mal, Bernie, Dev storyline, I'll be happy when this comes to conclusion. ⁓ I have to say, the playing Mal is great, because the way he's played it does really give me the creeps, like that almost pervy... Beyond Swarla: ⁓ yeah. Yep. Yep. Laurie: pervy uncle vibe, do you know what I mean? Like he's got it. I'm not sure. Beyond Swarla: I'm sure the actor whose name is Tim Trelaw will be absolutely delighted to hear you say that. Laurie: sorry, sorry. Yeah, ⁓ play it very, very well. But what I will say is that, ⁓ Dev, I think forgave Booney very quickly for, you know, when it's discovered that ⁓ was the one who beat Mal up. ⁓ but then when they go off the date, like, this is, this is brilliant. This actually made me laugh. I don't think I was supposed to laugh. But Mal was hiding behind the shop window, which I thought was hilarious. Cause would you trust a man to rewire your flat who hides behind a Beyond Swarla: No, no, no, it's fine. Yeah. Well. Laurie: quite see-through window. So I was like, right, OK. Beyond Swarla: male is just odious as far as I'm concerned and you know he's living in or supposedly comes from Inverness but he doesn't come from Inverness does he? So you've got to wonder why ⁓ a Lancashire lad or wherever he's originally from choose to living in a remote northerly city in Scotland? Why he chosen there of all places? And I don't actually believe at any point ⁓ that had a wife if I'm honest. I think ⁓ he's the person on the street the moment. and I think he sets the fire. Laurie: No, absolutely. I think it's dodgy wiring, but I think it's, yeah, think it's, yeah, it's his hand has a play in it as well. He's, yeah, he's just, he's a great creepy character. think, you know, Coronation Street got a bit taste for creepy characters at the moment, and they're just slightly unhinged, slightly creepy. Back the day, they used to be sort of like maybe one, maybe two, who would turn out to be, I don't know, a serial killer or whatever, but we've got quite a few at the moment who are just, yeah. Beyond Swarla: Yep. ⁓ shukka, yeah. you We've got so many. It's so dark. It's so dark right now. It is so dark right now. Which is why I was so delighted for about two and a half seconds when I thought that Lisa had fired Jodie over the bin wars. Laurie: creepy. ⁓ Yeah. that again, that's just, David's just being a real arse, isn't he? Just being mean for the sake, and I don't get it. What is his problem? Like, you know, ⁓ call him out. I'd be like, David, do have a problem with me being gay? Like really shit him up that way and be like, because as far as I can see, you're not targeting anybody else, are you? Do you know what I mean? And it's just weird. It's really weird. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. I don't know. Yeah. ⁓ yeah he doesn't do it with sally does he doesn't do it with sally i mean sally obviously clearly doesn't live next door doesn't live next door but i mean but he's a child he's a child i'm watching classic corey right now and he's 17 in that and he is no different it's just honestly he's never grown up i don't know i don't know he's just i don't i don't know Laurie: No. But within that rope, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You'd think Baby Harper's storyline would have sort of like made him grow up a little bit because this is quite some serious stuff to be dealing with. Not that we know what's going on with Baby Harper at the moment. Beyond Swarla: Yes! Yeah and you know he's got a day off, right? He's got a day off. What does he choose to do? He chooses to steal Lucy's bin and he chooses to watch Marvel films instead of going to the hospital and seeing his daughter. I'm sorry, I'm sorry but I don't agree with that. I know it's for the storyline blah blah blah but yeah I don't know. I think any light moments that we've got in it at the moment ⁓ Laurie: Yep. Yes. No. Beyond Swarla: If they're not swallow related, because they are very gorgeous, but if they're not swallow related, any light moments we have are very few and far between and they're just a bit annoying. ⁓ Laurie: Yeah, yeah, think I'm, I think I'm finding the funny in sort of the bits that I'm not supposed to find funny at the moment, because it's not it's not a lot of light relief is there. I think just briefly before we sort go on to other things, I appreciate we've been chatting for ages about this. I I just got to talk about Sam very briefly, because I think that's going to be ⁓ a sort of story. Well, it is kind of a main storyline at the moment, isn't it? But I think it's getting I ⁓ a of people are Beyond Swarla: Okay, okay Probably. Yeah. Laurie: unsure about what's going on and a bit confused as to what's going on and I'm thought initially it was you know, ⁓ they're go along the lines of ⁓ this is a side effect of abusing sort of medication you're not supposed to be taking but I don't think it is I think we're looking at possibly another psychosis storyline Beyond Swarla: No. Yeah, yep. I think we're looking at like Paranoid Schizophrenic or something like that. Potentially. I don't know. ⁓ you know, but maybe a game with chess will just sort him out. We never know. We'll find out. Yeah, it is. Laurie: Yeah, there's something going on, isn't there? And it's just very sad. ⁓ poor kid, poor kid. I just look at him and I'm just like, if they gave out soap awards for like the best face, like the ghost of Victorian child slash existential crisis, the kid who plays Sam, get it. He's brilliant. I'm not dissing him, he's lovely, but his little face sometimes just so haunted. I'm like, ⁓ God. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Yeah, no, he is. Yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, okay. All right. Well, let's let's wrap up the curry chat for now We're going to talk about it later after the interview But I'm just going to talk a little bit about that. I sat down with Kirsty at the end of February We chatted about Suki and Swala And a lot more besides so ⁓ up a chair if you haven't already have a listen this interview ⁓ It's a little bit of departure from the norm, whatever the hell that is. it was interesting that when we were recording it ⁓ ⁓ it was completely blowing up between the fandoms of Suki, even Swala. They were having a ⁓ bit of a difference of opinion about how the couples are treated. So it was very, very timely. There no real trigger warnings for this one or content warnings for this one. ⁓ It's much more of a chat. But it mention... ⁓ all of Carla's background so of course in that we do have the stuff that happened with her and Frank Foster. So without any further ado, cue the interview! So thank you to Kirsty, ⁓ was nice actually because I don't an opportunity to answer any questions I'm asking them. ⁓ So it was really nice of her to involve in that ⁓ whole conversation which was great and I hope it you want to watch the story of Suki and Eve which is lovely story in these centres. Also want to mention that Ash, is it Palmeish Charno? Is a trans actor playing a trans character and Kirstie and I talked about trans characters Soaps and although Coronation Street don't have one at the moment, we do know and obviously ⁓ acknowledge that do have one in Emmerdale which has been amazing for trans people to see and to relate to so thank you. bringing it up, Kirsty. Okay, still with me even though she's been silent for a bit. She's still there. ⁓ yeah, no, we're to talk about spoilers for the week, this week coming because we're recording this on a Friday. This will drop on Sunday and these are spoilers from the the 13th. so we've got this big, this big storyline, ⁓ this episode dedicated to on Wednesday. Laurie: here, I'm here. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Todd's clearly been abused, looks like physically, by and he goes and reports Theo to the police. So what do we think about this? Laurie: I think what I've seen the picture of the state of TOS and I think it's got to the point where Todd's like potentially, you know, gosh, he nearly killed me. Do you know what mean? And then that was the unfortunately that was when the penny sort of really dropped that it's now, you know, dangerously abusive and perhaps the circle of protection has all collectively then Beyond Swarla: Mm. Yeah. Yeah. Laurie: you know, managed to get through to him being like, you need to get out now before he kills you. And then this happens. I'm pleased because like I said, this is an important storyline, but it is a difficult watch. And I'm glad that it's now, it's, ⁓ know, we know what it's going to conclude around the wedding week, isn't it? Because potentially Theo is one of the murder victims. So we know it's going to come to an end in the next couple of weeks, hopefully ⁓ either Theo. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah. Laurie: dying or him buggering off to Belfast. Not London, not London though, where everybody goes. Not London! It's Belfast. Beyond Swarla: or him. Not London. London! No, it's Belfast. I mean, presumably it might also end with him being arrested and ⁓ would be the best scenario. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. OK. ⁓ and we've got the fire at Roy's, which is I'm assuming is going to happen. ⁓ Laurie: That would be the best comeuppance wouldn't it? Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Sunday which is the day that this episode will drop because there was a Sunday episode this week, another one, because there's nothing on Tuesday coming up. The fire at Roy's, we don't know... are we going to find out who sets it do you think? Laurie: We've got again a couple of potentials there haven't we? We've got Mal because he's obviously a little bit unhinged and I don't trust his rewiring of the flat. But then we've got Jodie as well. Roy would only have to do something that she doesn't like and then she could again do that spontaneous jerk, I'm going to do something. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: No, no. Yeah, I mean potentially, obviously Roy gets home from his bat watching whatever it is because it's not feeling well and he could potentially say to Jodie, well, you know, I'm not gonna keep the cafe open because there's no electricity is there because it all just goes out and goes upstairs ⁓ says to Jodie, will you lock up for me? And then ⁓ that Jodie well, ⁓ Laurie: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: yeah I'm gonna cause some I'm gonna cause some issues I don't know well we'll see we'll see ⁓ we've then got Laurie: Well, we know there's not, sorry, we know the stakes aren't gonna be that high, do we? Because I think a couple of people are pointing this out that Roy's obviously not gonna die in this fire because there's no way that Swallow would be getting married without Roy being there, right? So I think everything's gonna be okay. I think it's, know, but we'll see. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Thanks! Thank you, thank you. I'm sure there will be many many Lisa's that will very very to hear you say that. So Amal accuses Kit of the assault and this question mark about what does Lisa do about it. I mean Lisa at the moment is without warrant card which is not an ideal situation right? Laurie: It's not been leveraged there, and hasn't potentially Kit, because if he's just like, if he finds out that fact, I mean, you get into a fair amount of trouble for losing your warrant card because they also access proximity passes. So it gets you into all, you know, the local NICs. you know, you just, it's quite a serious security concern when it's lost and you get into a bit of trouble at work for it. So potentially that might come into play if Kit discovers that that is the case. But I'm just trying to think, has Kit got anything over Lisa that he would use? Because that's the sort of thing that he would use apart from that. We've never seen Lisa break the rules massively apart from the Rob Donovan storyline when she's just, you know, she says just, you know, slightly ⁓ underhanded things to get that through. I don't know. think, I mean, it's Kit, isn't it? Everybody... ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Yeah. yeah yeah yes you'll get him off yeah yeah yeah Laurie: There's huge fan base for Kit, so I can't imagine he's going to be like, well, know, he gets done for it, he gets sacked, he goes to prison. Beyond Swarla: He's going to worm his way out of this. The guy is Teflon. And especially when it comes to Lisa, who seems to let him off of absolutely everything that he does when she finds out that he does it. So I don't think anyone's under any kind of illusion that he's not going to get away with it and walk away. Because everyone hates Mel. it's like, Mel did a bad thing. Mel did a bad thing. Laurie: Teflon, ergh. Ugh, I'm... Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Kit also did a bad thing. So two wrongs clearly make a right because Kit's gonna get away with it anyway. Yeah, yeah, I'm not looking forward to Lisa being a bit, you know, very worried about what's happened to her warrant card, but would you not immediately report it missing? Is that not the right thing to do? Laurie: You have to cancel each other out. Yeah, the process is immediately, but I will say this just quickly. We don't keep our warrant cards in our document folders for that reason, because they could, you they could go missing. You could be in that document folder is like statement paper or whatever, then you could have just left that at somebody's house or whatever. So it's either around your neck or it's in your pocket. So I think, yeah. ⁓ process is you have to report it immediately. So your card gets cancelled basically and that sort of proximity. Beyond Swarla: Roll it. Right. yeah yes yeah yeah yeah okay so we'll see what happens with all of that Carl Carl gets even shittier Carl according spoilers he bribes Summer out of her inheritance money that he got that she got from Billy to tell Summer exactly what happened with Billy and who killed him Laurie: within the police station doesn't work anymore. Yeah. you Beyond Swarla: and Debbie finds out, I believe, and that is the last straw. Laurie: It's just like I said, I mean, they've got it. They revisited this again, haven't they? Because Carl's been off screen pretty much for a little while, isn't he? You've seen like little bits perhaps, but he's not been, you know, they put that story on the back burner, I guess with Debbie being in prison, you know, this little manipulation he can do there. But they've got to ramp it up, haven't they? heading into this who's dead, who done it storyline in a couple of weeks. But he's just, he's in sepulchres, isn't he? He's just, just horrible, horrible. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yep. Yeah, yep, yep, yep. Laurie: How can a lush character like Debbie have that as a son? Do know what I mean? Beyond Swarla: Well she didn't bring him up so maybe if she had brought him up he would have been a little nicer but you never know. I think Carl's just a badden. I think he's got a massive chip on his shoulder. He's had one since God knows when, since he came back, before he even knew that he was Debbie's son. thinks that the world owes him a living. ⁓ just one of those people. He's never going to be a good man ⁓ In fact, know, if he... well... Laurie: That's a fair point. ⁓ Mm. Beyond Swarla: We don't know if he dies or not, but he was certainly on the cobbles this week in the sunshine because he was his page. He a picture on his Instagram page this week of him on the cobbles with the actor that plays Ronnie and then Tyrone Kevin. So think we're assuming he survives. Laurie: Well there's either that or they've just kept him on for a little bit just to play his own dead body for a little bit, do know what mean? So, who knows? Beyond Swarla: red herrings well someone's someone's saying it's someone's saying it's either a massive red herring ⁓ or that debbie is him in in hallucinations and so that's why he's still filming Laurie: yeah. Yeah, potentially. Yeah, potentially. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Well, who knows? We'll see. We'll see. We're not going to get into that. tries to help George. She's come up with a cunning plan to George and not have to sell his business. I this story, I don't know what this story is. What is ⁓ the message this story? That you can basically slag off, that you can slag off someone's reputation ⁓ and get it court with no evidence and then... ⁓ Laurie: I'm with you on this. Beyond Swarla: and then get away with it? What, what, and make someone have to sell their business? What the hell is that story about? What the hell is that message that they're, that they're sending? Really? Laurie: bit of a weird one, to be honest with you. was a bit of a boring storyline. just felt a bit, do know what I mean? No disrespect, I really like George as a character. think him being protected with a toy is so lovely to see. I've loved all that bit, but this sort of B-plot, like, this is not particularly entertaining. It's very dry and again, Beyond Swarla: I love George. Bye. Laurie: I don't get where it's going, what the outcome is. he gonna lose Shuttleworth? Is that what they're saying? he ⁓ to take on a different career or whatever, I don't know. Beyond Swarla: I mean everybody knows that the good guys are supposed to win in the end what the hell's going on? know he's not. dripped poison into that woman's ear Annie and his ear about about George and and it seems to have Laurie: Yeah, yeah, exactly. Beyond Swarla: George seems to be getting it in the neck and I don't like that story. I'm sorry, I don't like it. Don't like it! Right, Jodie's causing a family feud between and Shona and Lily. Jodie just causes drama wherever she goes, let's just face it. ⁓ She does. ⁓ Yeah, you've got some views. Laurie: No, no, I'm with you. Yeah. She's, yeah, I could talk about Jodie for ages, I think in my mind, I'm trying to sort of like process like is going on with her? what, again, with her storyline, where are we going with this? I mean, she's a master ⁓ we know this, but then we've seen that in Becky Thwane and that's just, you know, another female character who's very good at manipulation and, you know. ⁓ The way she's of wheedling, getting closer and closer to David, I find that a bit odd, the fact that inserting herself into the lives of quite a few families now in Weatherfield. I don't I was pleased Bethany sort of twigged that she was a bit, something going on with her, but then quickly that veil was drawn back over, wasn't it? That now she's, ⁓ she's all right, actually, she's all right, I got that wrong. I can't see where they're going with this. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah. Laurie: You know, and I have to say that as far as unhinged female characters go who can manipulate and deceive and whatever, you know, she's not scratch on Becky Swain. I'm not in the Becky Swain fan club, you know, Jodie obviously didn't graduate from, you know, the Becky Swain of bullshit, did she? But she certainly has got, you know, type one liabilities, but she's, yeah, I don't know. don't know, she irritates me a little bit. ⁓ Yeah, like I said, I talk about Jodie for ages, but... Beyond Swarla: Yeah, she's clearly, I mean initially it was quite clear or it seemed quite clear that she was going to try to disrupt Shona's life because Shona had what Jodie considered to be the perfect life, know, husband, child, nice house, blah blah blah she has inserted herself into that life, I with the to disrupting it as much as possible but then she's ⁓ literally disrupting life. ⁓ Laurie: Yeah. Beyond Swarla: know she broke into Bernie's house and nicked the photograph or stole a little face photograph. She's stolen Brian's precious women in white book, first edition. She's just mildly annoying at this point. She's stolen Lisa's Warren card clearly, but know she's just ⁓ annoying really. ⁓ Laurie: It's just the face. Which is strange, it? Because are they gonna ramp her up to do like proper bonkers things or is she just gonna be this mildly annoying odd character? Beyond Swarla: And we also, you're an Emmerdale and ⁓ you know that Graham, obviously, Emmerdale has been stabbed and beaten because he ⁓ terminated the contract. Now the was, I presume, to work because he said the problem is a girl called Jodie. So they've mentioned that in Emmerdale now, which is very, very rare. I mean, I don't know if it's ever happened. Laurie: I am. Yes, yep. He did, yeah, yeah. I I wasn't expecting Yeah, yeah. Beyond Swarla: I'm just wondering, I'm just wondering if Jodie is going to meet her end at some point and that is going to be how that story ends because we still don't know why she was in that van and is that story going to come up why she was in that van? Laurie: I'm surprised Emmerdale did make that mention because and you know that Graham being beaten up and assaulted scene ⁓ out because I didn't expect them to sort of refer back to the crossover, do you know what mean? They've done it and that was kind of it and they're just like okay we accept that that they're not going to do it because we weren't going to see people popping up in the wall pack from Coronation Street and vice versa, know, we don't expect that to happen. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: No? Yeah. Laurie: So the fact that they did that, does that mean that we might see Graham in Coronation Street finish the job? Beyond Swarla: don't think we'll see Graham. I think we will see somebody or nobody. I don't think they'll put him on the What I do think is that they will maybe kind of sign posts to a storyline whoever ⁓ he has terminated the contract with. Laurie: That'll be the ones who show up. Yeah. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: that they will be the ones that show up or there will be some other contract killer or whatever it was that Graham was supposed to do, presumably contract killing. Graham's such a nice person isn't he? we'll see. Laurie: Yeah. Brilliant. I love it. I love it. it. ⁓ very watchable. Very watchable. And I love the timbre of his voice so much. I yeah, ⁓ really like the character. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: ⁓ yeah. I do like the character, he's the weirdest character but he's actually quite likeable. Anyway, we're not talking about Emmerdale, maybe we'll do another podcast about Emmerdale, but we can do another podcast about Emmerdale at some point if you want. And then we've got this whole Ben stuff where try to do a family reunion and it all just goes, well, horribly wrong probably, I don't know. ⁓ not sure, you what, I'm gonna sound terrible, I'm not sure I care that much ⁓ at moment about where Ben's head is at. Laurie: Yeah. No, no, sorry. I don't think the Driscolls have endeared themselves enough to the viewers as of yet for us to care that much. We've already got that relationship with Eva because we've known her before the Driscolls, but I just don't think that, yeah, like I said, they're the landlords of the Rovers, we don't... Number one, we don't know enough about them now, but like I said, they've not endeared themselves enough for us to be invested in what's going on with them. It's my sort of personal take on that. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Yeah, No, absolutely right. Absolutely right. So we'll see what happens with that. Anyway, for the week after we've got, ⁓ the week after, it's funny you should mention that. Is that the week that there might be someone getting married? Who knows? All we've got all the official spoilers. we've got for this official spoilers from that is that Carl tries to goad someone into a physical altercation. I'm thinking that's probably Ronnie. Laurie: Everybody calm down, calm down. Beyond Swarla: ⁓ Carla receives an unexpected phone call who is it from? I seem to think there might be some problem with the venue ⁓ Laurie: Yes, I, ⁓ you know, sometimes you watch Coronation Street and they put in a scene, you take it with a pinch of salt and it's just an incidental scene. I think the fact that we have that Welsh family at the hotel when Debbie was sort of getting, it's booked on the same day as Suala's wedding, I'm convinced they've double booked and they'll either put it down to Ryan being so busy doing cocktails that he's done that double booking by mistake or Debbie would have had, you know, a moment and double booked it. But I think that's what's going to happen because I have seen Beyond Swarla: Yeah. ⁓ yeah. Yeah. Laurie: I don't even know where this came from, but it popped up on social media. A very, spoiler alert, a very blurry picture of Underworld Dress. The set was dressed for the wedding. it looks like they're going to move it, doesn't it? So. Beyond Swarla: Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep. And they're sitting, standing on top of the balcony overlooking, looking at fireworks and stuff like that. think there's a, there's a very blur. There are some very, very blurry pictures and I'm glad they're blurry because I don't want to know. I do not want to know. I'd much rather speculate, but yeah, thoughts, thoughts on thoughts on underworld as a wedding menu considering that. Laurie: Yeah, I don't want to get, yeah, me too. I don't want to get spoiled, not for this. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Many people have died there. Laurie: It is, yeah, mean, I mean, have to make it work, don't they? think within, ⁓ god, yeah, the ghosts of so many people have passed it. Yeah, yeah. Beyond Swarla: Frank Foster died there. Rana died there. The ghost... The poor lass that fell down the stairs Carla was ⁓ them in the night, working over night shift and making them do massive over times to help ⁓ new dungaree line for kids. Yeah, been at least three deaths at Underworld. mean, I'm... Yeah. Laurie: ⁓ gosh, yeah. Yeah Beyond Swarla: What do we think? Laurie: It's a weird one, isn't it? Because I think that ⁓ to make the story... I mean, there was no... I've talked to you about this before. I think that the Swala fans have been so, so invested in this storyline. I think would have been nice to have the wedding at the hotel to go off without a hitch. But the hotel set isn't that big, is it? If you look at it, you're only looking at small booths, you're looking at the bar. So they haven't got that space, have they? ⁓ the only logical thing to do... ⁓ would be to move it where they've got that slightly bigger space, which I think is the back lot on sort of underworld. I don't agree with it. I think it should have gone off without a hitch. would have just, you know, just have a lovely episode that's all lovely and yeah, it's soap land though, isn't it? It's never gonna... And then the murder. Yeah. And then the murder sort of, yeah. But I think, know, potentially that they could dress it up. could be lovely, couldn't it? All sort of, you know. Beyond Swarla: then the murder. I mean Underworld it's had its share on flip side of that With Carla and Lisa's relationship Carla, know, Carla Underworld is her child. She didn't have a child of her own. She ⁓ the last 20 years in ⁓ place and that is her baby. But the history that, ⁓ I it's got some rotten history, but it's also got some amazing history in terms of Carla and Lisa's relationship and things that have happened there ⁓ and memories that they would have from those that have happened. Laurie: Okay. Yep. Beyond Swarla: ⁓ including you also ⁓ a myriad of them there's when Lisa stops Carla from beating up Joel and you know and the first kind of physical touch that they have when sees them and it's the whole spaghetti scene ⁓ ensues that you know Lisa saves Carla from being attacked by the guy the father of the guy who she there's you know Christmas Christmas scene when the lights went out there's loads and loads of different history also the realization from Carla that she wanted to marry Lisa also happened in Underworld so I'm against it being Underworld at all ⁓ and think it's you know see it probably is I mean let's face it probably is but do you want to speculate ⁓ for a few about the wedding? ⁓ Laurie: Yeah, they slow us, yeah. You know, think, I I was gonna say, I I think they will miss a trick if they don't have like wedding bunting made out of pants, if it's an underworld, to be completely honest with you. But yeah, I'm with you. I think they could make it look really sort of just cute, couldn't they, if they dress it, you know. Beyond Swarla: Thank yeah i mean it's totally illegal you can't actually get married in underworld i can't actually get married in underworld legally but no one's going to care about that no one cares about that i care about that but you know whatever so so we've got venue issues potentially for the wedding of course this is the last podcast that we will do before the wedding so i just want to speculate a little bit Laurie: No. Yeah. So we've got to put all our, yeah, we've got to speculate a little bit, haven't we, before it happens. Beyond Swarla: We've got to, you know, going to be their first dance? Laurie: How? First dance, well, I suspect it's gonna be Frank Sinatra, had to be you as we heard Lauren and Betsy butchering it in the flash forward and I think that's gonna be sort of, my choice for them would be Cass Elliott, Make Your Own Kind Of Music. I think that would just be perfect. yeah, what would yours, do you have any thoughts on what you would put for them? Beyond Swarla: ⁓ they're going to have one. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Oh gosh, I don't know. I mean, I do love Fleetwood Mac's Songbird. So I think if I had to be drawn in, it would be that. But there's many, many things that it could be. Also Ella Fitzgerald at last. Laurie: ⁓ good choice. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: as well is another good one. But I only want that one because that was me and my wife's first arts. So yeah, who's going to walk them down the aisle? Who's going to be in the bridal party? mean, we haven't... Laurie: ⁓ yes. That's a lovely one. Yeah. ⁓ lovely. It's going to be Roy for Carla, isn't it? It's going to be absolutely Roy for Carla. So we know he's not going to die in the fire or be severely injured because there's no way Carla will get married without Roy being there because he's been that dad figure for, isn't he? With Lisa, we don't know about her mum or dad or siblings for that matter. We know it's never been mentioned. So I assume because of that, it's a pretty big assumption, that there's not a great relationship there ⁓ because Beyond Swarla: We know nothing. Nothing. yeah yes yeah yeah she said to Toya that she sounds like you sound like my mum telling me to eat yeah Laurie: I think Lisa mentioned her mum once when she was drunk before she went and did the letter thing and like, you know, when they got back together. She did mention her mum when she was in the bistro. Yes. Yeah. so potentially that is a clue there that mum is maybe still alive. I don't know. But I think. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, because she also she my mum was always there when I got home from school and stuff like that. So we have had some mentions. We do know, we do know that she, we do know that she's got a mum. ⁓ But no more, no more than that. Laurie: Yes, we have. Yeah, you're right. You're right Yes, yeah, we know she's got a mum, we don't know anything else about her, if, know, mum and dad, Swain, don't rock up, I think that Ryan will probably step in for her. That would be the one that, you know, I think would be the most suitable, maybe, do you think? Beyond Swarla: Do we think that Lisa will have invited her parents if they're still alive and they can't come at the last minute and Ryan steps in? Or do we think that there's just going to be absolutely no mention of her family whatsoever? Laurie: Just don't think that they, ⁓ I don't know. I don't know, because I think that's ⁓ a good working theory, because yes, ⁓ your wedding day, second one for Lisa. ⁓ want your mum and dad there. If the relationship is good and it's still there, then you'd want your mum and dad there, wouldn't you? But yeah, potentially to sort navigate not introducing the elder swings, perhaps that's what happens when Ryan steps in. Yeah, I'm not sure. Beyond Swarla: yeah i just can't believe that they're i just i just can't believe that we're going to see a wedding where lisa's family isn't mentioned at least in passing i mean that would be so weird that would be so weird i don't know yeah Laurie: Yeah, they have to don't they? yeah. I think with the, we know it's going to be like a big bash because we know Carlos is like, you know, I want to go all out on this. think most of Weatherfield is going to be invited to the wedding. there's going to be a lot of characters within those scenes and potentially they might be like, well, we can't introduce like two more random brand new characters right now because that's a bit sort of overload. ⁓ I don't know. I'd like to see them. really would. think I would add a new sort of layer to Lisa's character to see how the dynamic between her parents work. Beyond Swarla: I'm pretty ⁓ convinced that they will not appear at all and we may get the passing mention of them and I think that at some point in the future we may or may not get to see them but I don't think they're going to appear for the wedding I just think there's too much going on now you can't as you say you can't introduce two new characters or even one new character it's just not going to work I think we will have absolutely nothing for on Lisa Swain's family side apart from Betsy which is a shame but you know that that's probably what's going to happen okay and good yep Laurie: What are your thoughts on Michelle coming back for the wedding? Beyond Swarla: If she doesn't come back I'll be fuming! ⁓ Laurie: Oh, I don't know what, again, I'm kind of, I'm still on the bandwagon. I really hope that they worked it, that she could come back just for like, very briefly, for a very brief appearance, but. Beyond Swarla: I would absolutely love it. I would love it. mean, you know, the, the, you the stars seemed to be aligned. You know, she wasn't in her play on the day that we were filming. you know, ⁓ and she was back the next day. So it's the, the logistics work as far as we know the, that she, she was there. Laurie: Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: But I don't know, mean, are they going to fit her in, if I'm honest? How are they going to fit her into all of this? How are they going to have her surprise Carla, potentially? ⁓ Laurie: Do know what? I would go for the very, very cliched, very overly done, you know, when they sort of, they're doing their vows and does anybody here have a reason, you know? And Michelle just bursts in, do you know what mean? Like, yeah, hang on. Yeah, yeah, that'd be brilliant, but. ⁓ Beyond Swarla: at that point, yeah, yeah, yeah. I can't wait to see whether that happens and she's in it or not, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope, if I'm honest, and my expectations on that are quite low because can't allow myself to get too excited about it. ⁓ gosh, well, it's going to be amazing. And today, ⁓ in news, ⁓ today a massive press day over in... Laurie: No. Yeah. No, I'm with you. I'm with you. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: over in Corrie and all the journalists are there. So will we get a wedding photo shoot? I think a lot of stuff is being held back. No, someone, I it was Duncan Lindsay, who's one of the journalists ⁓ for said that there's some stuff that's going to be held back for longer than normal for spoilers. that will be interesting. We don't know when we're going to get to see any of it, to be honest. Yeah. So today as we... Laurie: really don't like that though because I really don't want to be spoiled so if there's a bit of an embargo on this like they did with Corydale they did that quite cleverly I thought that everything was locked down so you didn't know anything really that was going on and if they do that with the Swallowhead then brilliant I don't want to be spoiled. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I don't want to be either, but I do accept the fact that I might have to go and live in a cave in order for that to happen. Laurie: You just have to come off, yeah, can go completely sort of, yeah, non-digital switch off, yeah, off grid. It's gonna be really hard to avoid. ⁓ the note of the wedding, are we absolutely sure ⁓ they're gonna become the Connorswains or could Carla take Lisa's name or vice versa? What's your thoughts on that? Beyond Swarla: Yeah. So, August last year, when dropped the tour of number 6, Sydney said welcome to the Connorswains. And I think since then, I think since then, we've been fairly convinced that they are going to be the Connorswains. I don't want Carla be Carlos Wayne, I have to say, because I don't want her to... Laurie: Hmm. Yeah. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, I can't see Carla not being a Carla Connor. just can't, I know she was a Barlow when they met, she was Carla Barlow and I hated that, I hated it. And I was so pleased when she went back to Carla Connor and I just don't want to see her lose Connor. And I don't want to see Lisa lose Swain because Swain is her name. So... Laurie: No, yeah that's the thing isn't it? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah Beyond Swarla: I really am on board with the whole Conor Swain thing. I really want it to be Conor Swain. I really do want it to be. Laurie: I think you're right, because of the established characters, think that's probably what they're going to do. ⁓ I did wonder, have we actually had confirmation that that's what they're going to ⁓ ⁓ you think we're going to get and see a hen ⁓ either of them? Beyond Swarla: No, not really, but yeah. Ugh. Well, we're not going to get to see a hen for Lisa on her own because she's got no friends. There's absolutely nobody that you would invite. No, she just, we've already established she's got no family. We also know that she's got no bloody friends. The only person who would be there would be like Betsy and Lauren potentially. I mean, no, no. we going to see a joint hen do? I would love to see a joint hen do. I ⁓ love to see that. They've got a few days before the actual wedding, like the Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, potentially. Laurie: ⁓ she doesn't... she doesn't... Bless her! She's got no friends! ⁓ gosh Yeah, potentially, yeah. Beyond Swarla: where they could just drop that in at the Rovers potentially so we might see a hen. my expectations are very low, very for that. Laurie: Yep. I would have loved for them to have, you know, Manchester, I would have loved for them to all of them go out in the village, but you I know they've done that before, but I think if they had already done that, and that's something that we hadn't seen, the press would have picked up on it by now, know, filming in Canal Street. So, but that would have been really good. Beyond Swarla: Yeah, yeah, No, no. I don't, I'm also not sure it's very Lisa. It's definitely not very Lisa to do that. So if they were going to do anything like that, would be, it would be a Carla Connor thing. Yeah. so yeah, don't know if we're going to get to see Hen, but I'd like to, obviously I'd like to see, I'm here for all of it, whatever it is. So yeah. Laurie: No, that's true. Yeah, yeah, that's true. hope we see Susie as a flower girl because that makes sense, right? I hope they don't forget that Carla's, you know, her auntie and we see that because, that'll be, and obviously, I think judging by the outfit we saw in the flash forward, Betsy's a bridesmaid? Or is that just, it looks quite a wedding-y sort of rather than a going out or, you know, it looks like... Beyond Swarla: aww yeah yeah Yeah, probably. Yeah, I mean would, whatever part Betsy does play in the wedding, that would have been a wedding outfit anyway, but yeah, I suspect that she's a bridesmaid, I suspect. Yeah, I mean, and we don't know where Connie is either, do we, in all of this? I mean... Laurie: Yeah. Hello? Yeah, ⁓ I hope she's still there somewhere. We'll see. Beyond Swarla: It would be cute if she was in a little little meringue dress and know ⁓ spends the day carrying her around while her mums are getting married. I think that would be very sweet, very cute. ⁓ Laurie: That would be very cute, yeah. I just don't, I don't think I'm gonna be able to handle this, because I'm gonna be so like, ⁓ so, my heart will be so full, and then they roll out Connie then, and she's looking all like cute, ⁓ I can't take the cuteness, can't take it. Beyond Swarla: Gosh yeah, my heart will explode I believe I think I think it will but we're gonna be We're gonna be waxing lyrical about the wedding in two weeks time. So yeah Yeah, so hold on to your hats guys because yeah, we're gonna be back in two weeks talking purely wedding stuff But anyway, we're not gonna do that now So I've got some feedback Laurie: Mm. Yeah, that's going to be a very long conversation. You Beyond Swarla: the podcast. Elle, obviously your interview aired last time and everybody loves you. They think that you are fantastic. Lots and of best wishes came your way. ⁓ Specifically Hazel said, I've listened to Elle's story twice. Wow, how brave to share this and she is still early days in her recovery. What an incredible woman. Her feelings and comments are very relatable. Laurie: Aww, thank you. Thank you. Beyond Swarla: Your understanding of domestic abuse is very deep, Keri-Anne, and you said things I did not even know were part of the journey and healing. You are a very astute interviewer and funny. ⁓ my god. Thank you so much. Seriously, my thoughts are reeling off listening to your podcast. I had to listen twice to take it all in. And obviously if you want to leave feedback, you can do that. I'll give you some ways to do that at the end. Just lastly, we are... we're a new podcast and ⁓ I originally wanted to do eight episodes all my interviews for the eight episodes identified now but I would like do another series of these and I'm starting to look interviewees for series two of the podcast. So do you have a story tell or something that you want to say? No subject is off the table but would love... general themes to be bringing up baby, so have you ever had to take on another person's child or stepchildren? Stories around that. Weddings? love stories and or wedding disasters. Did someone get while you were watching your fireworks? ⁓ You know, apparently happens. I know if ⁓ ⁓ heard some about ⁓ Laurie: Jesus. Beyond Swarla: so you may have a story. I mean obviously positive, positive and and if there are funny things or disastrous things that all end up perfectly okay at the end. We'd love to hear from you. you know we're looking at Carla now she's just she's getting married she's getting married she discovered this part of her sexuality very very late in her life well not very very late later in her life and I know that there are people who this story really resonated with. are there people who have discovered a different side to their sexuality? hesitate to call them late in life lesbians because it might not be. might have discovered that you're actually bisexual, you know, or some other sexuality. But I know you're out there and as Carla marries her person, let's stories you discovering that completely new to your sexuality. And then... ⁓ Maybe a little bit about LGBTQ representation in the media. What do you think of the Swala story, the Sue Keefe story, other women loving women stories told in the media? Would love your views on that. And if you've got some views and you want the chance to air those on the podcast, then please do let me know. Laurie: I think I'm all talked out but while you say that, you know what I'm like, get me on a subject I get excited about and that's it, I'll be gone for another hour. yeah, good. Beyond Swarla: Yeah. Okay so listeners before we leave you have the most fantastic next couple of weeks the whole wedding thing will be done as I say before we meet again but yeah I hope that it's all that you hope for and ⁓ that keep well ⁓ and watching Corrie and ⁓ I you enjoyed the podcast so farewell everybody say goodbye Elle Laurie: Bye!
