Lorin Williams: If you're hearing this, we welcome you to another edition of It's a Stream of Life podcast with Brandon and Lauren. We are in a new month of May. The weather is still doing its yin-yang-yang around the house. ⁓ We were in the 50s and 30s in the morning. We're starting to warm up a little bit. Looks like we're getting some April showers into May and whatnot. Brandon: Yeah, it's nuts. Lorin Williams: So hopefully it starts to stabilize pretty soon. Because people are going to be outside a lot in the next few weeks just with activities and whatnot going on everywhere. But how's your week been so far? Brandon: Right, right. It was alright. ⁓ Pretty good weekend. Can't complain about too much. ⁓ like you said, the weather's been up and down so it's been weird. I'm ready for it to just be like in the 70s. Just stay one temperature because the swing brings the worst headaches. Lorin Williams: Yeah, yeah, I had a cold and had allergies and it took forever for it to get out of my system just because the weather wouldn't decide what I wanted to do. But today was nice. It wasn't too cold, but you could get by with like a light jacket. So I'm hoping it stays that way and then cascades into like the proper summer temperatures. We're going to go and get started with our headlines. Brandon: Right. Lorin Williams: There's some major news this past week in entertainment. First up, the biggest thing were some new rules at the Academy Awards. The major thing was they would not allow any films with AI scripts to be nominated. And the same for actors. For right now, all films must have human actors and their consent if they ventured into the AI, but right now you cannot be awarded. ⁓ Brandon: That's good. Lorin Williams: as AI writer or actor. So those are some parameters right now. It may change in the future. That was a major change. They're also gonna allow actors to be nominated in the same category for two different roles as long as both roles get at least the top five, the top two top votes for that category. So they gave plenty of examples in this variety article. instance, Kate Winslet in 2008 was campaigning for Revolutionary Road. Brandon: Right. Hmm. Lorin Williams: she was supporting in the reader she won Golden Globes for both but only one was nominated for an Oscar later on so now if actors deliver two commanding performances from two different films in the same year they can be eligible to be nominated for both if they get enough votes which could be interesting Brandon: I actually like that rule. I don't mind that at all because it seems like it's happening more often now where you're seeing people put in really good performances and they should be nominated. So yeah, yeah, I like that. Lorin Williams: in multiple projects. Yeah, definitely. Another one was, or was it? with international films, ⁓ you can have multiple films from the same country nominated for best international feature now, which makes sense, i don't know why- Brandon: Yeah, that should never have been a rule. Lorin Williams: Brazil can only have one movie when the United States is bulk of all nominations in general. So that's a good rule. Let's see, there anything else? Brandon: Yeah. Exactly. Lorin Williams: The casting category number of statuettes award will increase from a maximum of two to three. That category was just introduced last year, well this year, so that's not a big deal. Cinematography branch will produce a fixed short list of 20 films, replacing the prior 10 to 20. So that's a different change. Makeup and Hairstyling branch members must attend at least one of the two final branch roundtables to be eligible to vote in the preliminary round. In Visual Effects, all Academy members must view the three-minute before and after reels from a visual effects bake-off to vote. That makes sense if you're voting on this you need to be watching more than just I guess the film. And the original song category also received a precision update for songs submitted as the first new music cue Brandon: Right, right, exactly. Lorin Williams: Once end credits begin, the submitted video clip must include the final 15 seconds of the film before the credits roll. What? Brandon: Hmm. Lorin Williams: For songs submitted as the first new music cue once end credits begin, the submitted video clip must include the final 15 seconds of the film before the credits roll. Okay. Brandon: That's... okay, yeah. Right, yeah. Lorin Williams: Yeah, that's a little bit murkier, but mainly the audience, us, regular viewers are going to be mindful of the No AI and the actors twice in the category. And ⁓ I'm sure there'll be more changes by the time they arrive on YouTube and whatnot, but we'll have to wait and see. For full changes, you can go to just kind of search for this was from variety.com. Brandon: Right. Lorin Williams: with some of the changes to the different categories. I think they're trying to just do whatever they can to retain viewership and increase it later on. Brandon: Yeah, well what's not going to help is putting it on Netflix. Lorin Williams: Yeah, I don't, I don't know how this one works. Brandon: are no I'm not excited about that in the slightest Lorin Williams: Yeah, only having it on, like it would make sense if you had it on ABC and stream live on YouTube. That way people that don't have TV could get it, but just strictly YouTube doesn't make any sense. Brandon: Yeah, right. No, not at all. Lorin Williams: Next, we've got some box office news. Not this past weekend, but the weekend before, the highly anticipated Michael Biopic came out starring his nephew Jafar Jackson, Colman Domingo, and Nia Long. It made 97 million domestically. It's onward to like 200 something worldwide. They have allegedly have already greenlit the sequel, which is supposed to be the rest of his life. Brandon: Wow. Lorin Williams: ⁓ so we'll see how that was while audiences love the movie. ⁓ most critics panned it just because they felt it was a very shallow look at the, pop stars greatest musical moments, basically. Brandon: Yeah. Lorin Williams: Me personally, think what a better narrative would have been like the final stretch of the victory tour where, you know, he's done off the wall. He's coming back to his brothers for a tour he didn't really want to do. And he positions himself for, for thriller, you know what saying? So that would have been a much more combined. Brandon: Yeah Right, right. Lorin Williams: Come find space and you still get all the drama and family dynamics and whatnot, but just in that single era Brandon: Right. Yeah. And I knew fans were gonna like it. It was always gonna be a matter of what the critics said about it. But I don't know. It's done okay. It's just one thing. If you're on the internet and anything ever comes about Michael Jackson, he has the craziest fans ever. Just, they are insane. Lorin Williams: I think that would be a better story. He really does. Yeah, that's where Stan culture actually began. Brandon: Yeah, I believe that. I believe that. Yeah. Lorin Williams: Yeah. and other news, this kind of big one, the FCC is calling for early renewal of Disney's ABC's licenses in response to, well, allegedly in response to Jimmy Kimmel's off joke about, ⁓ first lady Melania and president Trump. ⁓ clearly ABC is defending him and are having, wasting time on this sort of like frivolous accusation of Brandon: Yeah. Okay. Lorin Williams: whatever they want. ⁓ And the FCC chair, Brendan Carr, is alleging that this is not about that. This is for their alleged DEI violations, because you're not supposed to be promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in a company like Disney. Brandon: Alright. Nobody can keep up with all this and I think that's part of the point but it's all just so stupid. Yeah. Lorin Williams: Yeah. Yeah, and neither can they. they are, they're menacing and evil, but when it comes to the court of law, nothing is standing up. Brandon: No, they're literally No, and and they're not even they're evil, but they're not even good at being evil. They're like the worst villains ever They're so fucking stupid Lorin Williams: It's very much Team Rocket blasting off again. Brandon: It is! It feels like that. It's just like, what are we doing, man? ⁓ lord. Lorin Williams: Yeah, no one's taking them seriously. ⁓ Lastly, some better news, we have release dates for two of HBO's biggest shows coming this summer. House of the Dragon season three will arrive on June 21st via Sunday. This will be the third season of the Cherished Targaryen war in the Game of Thrones lore. And then, Brandon: Yeah. Lorin Williams: August 16th, right after ⁓ House of Dragon ends, we will get the series Lanterns, which will follow two of the most prominent Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart, investigate a murder here in the heartland of middle America. people are excited about that. It's supposed to be the first live action, well, not the first, it'd be the second live action series part of the new DCU after Peacemaker. Brandon: Yes. Okay. Lorin Williams: So ⁓ Hal Jordan being played by Kyle Chandler and Jon Stewart being played by Aaron Pierre. And they'll have sort of like a tenuous relationship given that Jon is the rookie who's come to sort of replace Hal Jordan. We like the vet versus the rookie type of situation, but ⁓ people were excited for that. So we have official dates, so Martha on your calendar and get ready for what's to come. Brandon: Yeah. Yeah, they put out a kind of like a recap of everything that happened in ⁓ the house of Jesus Christ. Yeah, the house of the dragon. And I'm glad they did because I kind of forgot and there's so many storylines and so, but when I finished watching that, I was ready. I'm like, ⁓ yeah, I need this back again. this is, right. Lorin Williams: Mm-hmm. Yeah, and we're getting some new characters. ⁓ I believe one of... What's her face? Allison's brothers or someone is joining the fight, giving them a lot more army power. And then you have Aegon, who fled Westeros, coming back for vengeance against... ⁓ What's his brother's name? Brandon: ⁓ You got me there. I can never... yeah. Lorin Williams: Egon, Aemon, Aemon. Since Aemon was responsible for injuring him, so you have some sort of infighting on Team Green, where Team Black seems more stabilized. They're promising, more dragons were promising actually war this season, and ⁓ they will be premiering an episode at the ATX TV Festival ⁓ this month for opening night. Brandon: is happening. Lorin Williams: So, uh oh, what's going on? Are we okay? Brandon: Yeah, hold on. Yours just really, really buffered for a second. Lorin Williams: Okay, yeah, it said reconnecting to the wifi, so I guess we're back. I don't know. We're residing together. So like I was saying, they're gonna premiere, think they're gonna do the season premiere at the festival. Ryan Condal is gonna be there as well as some of the cast to talk about season three. that should be exciting. ⁓ But yeah, get ready for that. ⁓ our headlines, we're gonna get to our feature presentation. Brandon: Yeah. Okay. Lorin Williams: were you able to catch this film? Brandon: Yes, no other choice. Yeah, I watched it, I wouldn't say last week or whenever it came out, I watched it probably like the next day. Lorin Williams: Okay. Okay. Okay. I watched it tonight. Well today. So we're actually gonna talk about the, ⁓ this wasn't nominated for Oscar, was it? I don't think it made the cut. Right, right. So this is no other choice from old boy director. Let me check the name right. Brandon: No, and a lot of people thought that it should have been. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ Lorin Williams: don't mess this up. Director Park Cheon Wook and it stars Lee Byung Hoon who's known for Squid Game. plays the nefarious kind of boss of the games and he essentially stars as ⁓ a man leading his family's had this job for 25 years at a paper company and I believe they're in Brandon: Yeah. Yeah. Lorin Williams: Korea, correct? Brandon: Yeah, I believe so, Lorin Williams: and he is laid off unceremoniously And he has no other choice but to set lethal plans in motion to regain his employment so he can sort of keep up appearances and the life he's accustomed to for his family. Just non-spoilers, what were your initial thoughts on the film? And why do you think it wasn't nominated? Brandon: Right. Lorin Williams: Because to me, it should have been nominated, honestly. Brandon: Yeah, I can't understand why it wasn't picked. ⁓ But what I will say is that it's a very good film. It is definitely a black comedy. Obviously, I don't speak Korean, but that's I feel like that's the best way to watch it. I don't understand people that dub stuff. I can't do that. I cannot do dub. It sounds horrible. But ⁓ Lorin Williams: ⁓ no. Brandon: You still get the emotion and everything when you watch it in Korean and if you have subtitles in English. yeah, was a good movie, very poignant film because not only does it speak about this man and his ⁓ situation with this company, it just speaks about how things are happening in the world at large with things becoming more modern and how they're changed and what this means for humans and how we react. He reacts in a very... ⁓ extreme way but at the same time you can't really blame him but it but it is funny because of this the the roller coaster events that he ends up going through so yeah it's a good movie I enjoyed it Lorin Williams: Yeah, I agree. The performances were great. Like I said, I don't know why it wasn't nominated. It's an excellent film. And you're right. It is laugh out funny at moments, especially in beginning, just little bits and pieces. But it is a stark look at how the workforce is changing due to technology, due to scarcity, and also the very Brandon: Yeah, I genuinely don't. Yeah. Right. Mm-hmm. Lorin Williams: ⁓ nature of capitalism, how it, it, it's just reciprocal, reciprocal, in sort of chewing up the workers for the, the very few who are in control. and you see how he, he begins his journey in pursuit to sort of save his job, ⁓ not only his job, but other jobs. And in the end, he just becomes a tool. Brandon: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Lorin Williams: that he would, the tools of the very oppression he was trying to avoid. But yeah, I loved his dynamic, and especially the dynamic of the characters around him, his wife, his two children, and then the others he sort of, lives he interrupts, yeah interacts with along the way. ⁓ Brandon: Exactly. Yeah. interacted with. Yeah. And it also spoke to a bit of, obviously, because he was like the head of his family, it speaks to gender roles without really ever kind of putting it in your face. But then it also speaks to how we connect to our jobs. Obviously, jobs are your livelihood in so many ways. ⁓ at multiple times during the movie, two of the characters that work for the paper company both say, and this isn't really a spoiler, that all they know is paper. And you hear that so much, know, so many people let their jobs become the personal life. You make friends through your jobs, you meet your loved ones through your job or whatever, and ⁓ to have that taken away, like they did after 25 years, you can really see how distraught these men were, and not just because they didn't have a purpose, but then just because they didn't have... Lorin Williams: Right. you Brandon: that, ⁓ I don't know, that kind of prestige anymore. They weren't the head of their family. So yeah, it was very interesting, but really well done. Lorin Williams: Right. Right. And the same token, because their work became their lives, also, you also saw how it impacted their family. ⁓ For instance, he and his wife seemed to be loving, but there was an undercurrent previous tension where he just wasn't there. There was a moment where he was absent and only affected, not only affected her, ⁓ but their children, which ⁓ I Brandon: Exactly. Right. Lorin Williams: Only one of the kids was his and then they shared the daughter and there was kind of a rift there just given the blended family dynamic of it all. Brandon: Yeah, I think this... Yeah, and that again, not to make spoilers, but I think you learn when he talks about how he wanted to have a drink that the boy is his stepson. The daughter is the one that they actually have. ⁓ he used to drink and... ⁓ Lorin Williams: Mm-hmm. Right. Brandon: wasn't good so... Lorin Williams: Yeah, and you could see that with each character just how much the work, like you said, the gender roles where men find their worth in their ability to provide and their ability to work and their ability to attain upward mobility. And when that's gone, they resort to sort of Brandon: Right. Lorin Williams: desperate measures because they feel like they don't have an identity anymore and that's very dangerous when you can't find purpose and other stuff outside of a nine to five. Brandon: as you're growing. Yeah, it's like and you see that obviously in the main character, but I think it's better exemplified and the guy whose wife is cheating on him and she's like the free spirit artist type because there is a point where She's you know looking down on him and saying well, it's not so much that you lost your job. It's about how you react to it What do you do now? What and she's like, you know, you don't need to be this engineer, but just Yeah, it's like and you see that obviously in the main character, but I think it's better exemplified and the guy whose wife is cheating on him and she's like the free spirit artist type because there is a point where She's you know looking down on him and saying well, it's not so much that you lost your job. It's about how you react to it What do you do now? What and she's like, you know, you don't need to be this engineer, but just Lorin Williams: Mm-hmm. Right. Mm-hmm. Right. Brandon: you know, try something. Right, exactly. Yeah. you know, try something. Right, exactly. Yeah. Lorin Williams: Right, be human, like be, there was someone there before the engineer, like you're a person beyond this and that's what she tried to make him see. Right, be human, like be, there was someone there before the engineer, like you're a person beyond this and that's what she tried to make him see. Brandon: Exactly, Exactly, Lorin Williams: Yeah, that whole, I guess, chapter of the film was very interesting. But I love how they show that this guy was just a normal guy who decided to do this very specific thing to Brandon: It was, yeah, it was. Right, right. Lorin Williams: to get, reach the goal he wanted. You he's not a professional. He was very good at learning and some of his other skills came into helping him do those things. But he wasn't like an expert at the very first. That's very, I love that, that realism in it. Like as he progressed, of course he got better because he was doing it. But, Brandon: Exactly, yeah. Lorin Williams: Yeah, I also really admired, which I thought was very interesting, the way that one certain reveal is shown, how a particular person stood by him. Like there was a sense of hesitancy, of course, they realize this is wrong, but they're not. Brandon: Yeah. Lorin Williams: They don't, they abide, they support and try to shield others from the truth as a parent would, I guess you'd say. So that was very interesting and just shows sort of the way, I don't know, just how you, you're accustomed to a certain lifestyle, a certain amount of wealth, certain privileges, you do anything to keep a hold of them. Brandon: Right, exactly. Yeah. Right, right. Lorin Williams: And that was true there. Brandon: Yeah. I won't lie though, I won't say that the film was slow, because it built up to well, but there were some parts of it that were just like, you just have to kind get through, yeah. Lorin Williams: Yeah, it is long. Two hours, 19 minutes is very long. So I was like, I was eating dinner, so okay, let me pause and get something to drink. So that made it longer. And I think some moments I might have dozed off and got back, but I don't think there's much I missed because like you said, some parts were a little elongated than others, but it's not like any time was wasted. ⁓ Brandon: Exactly, yeah. Lorin Williams: And now getting to some spoilers, what were some of your standout moments in the film itself? Brandon: ⁓ Let's see, think this scene one of the most tense scenes even though it's kind of funny is like I said when He is heading to the guy's house the other worker Realizes that he's being cheated on and that whole scene where he's on the phone trying to delay him from getting in the house and then He messes up and then the dudes like wait. I'll be on my way. No, I need to go shower and I'm like, ⁓ my god ⁓ my god, it really does create a good sense of like just tension, but then he that scene happens and then it moves into the woods where there's a snake bite and there's shooting and there's just so there's so much happening at once so I think that's the scene that really stuck out to me. Lorin Williams: Yeah, it was a comedy of errors It was hilarious. And the miscommunication between the two of who he was actually was and the third party getting involved. And ultimately like that first one, he wasn't very responsible for it, ⁓ which was sort of like shocking. Like he just kind of happened, stanced for those events to happen, which I guess gave him some relief. Brandon: Yes, absolutely. Yeah. Lorin Williams: For me, it was that one. And then I think the second ⁓ target, I was very kind of shocked at how he quickly, I mean, the first one was sort of like, we said, like a string of airs of events that kind of led to that predicament. But this one, he was very, very vindictive, very focused. ⁓ and manipulative in how he sort of ⁓ drew his target in. ⁓ This guy seemed to be the most sane of the men he was going after, unfortunately. They had the most in common. ⁓ It was sort of like, that's when the film sort of shifted into the more dramatic moments. ⁓ Brandon: Right. Lorin Williams: So that was interesting. And I thought, now the son seemed to be like a typical teenager. The stuff with the daughter, was she like autistic or? Brandon: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that one was kind of weird to me. And that's kind of what I was getting at because she was making all sorts of noises and then she had like the drawings and everything. And then I guess, but then she's also like this. cello player that's kind of a prodigy. I'm like, what's going on? Yeah, so I don't know. That was odd. Lorin Williams: Yeah, like, yeah, I didn't, I assume maybe she was like a savant, but then like she only played for the teacher and then she only spoke things she already heard. So that part was a little confusing. ⁓ Brandon: Right. Lorin Williams: But it was interesting to see how immediately the loss of that job, weren't like, it wasn't like with Parasite, they were just trying scheme after scheme after scheme. Like they immediately said, we can't do this anymore, we can't afford that anymore. And they cut back, which I was surprised at that, usually in these stories, they try to keep up appearances as long as they can. ⁓ Brandon: Right. Right, and they were just like, yeah, we can't do it. Lorin Williams: Yeah, so they look at downsizing, they get rid of their dogs as less mouths to feed. She goes back to work, which was sort of a point of tension between them, because I guess he didn't want her to work. ⁓ And we see eventually she continues as she says, this is a way to save money. Brandon: Yeah. Lorin Williams: which was very smart and I think a way in the narrative to also show that how even though she was supportive of him, she was having like a backup plan, which I kind of theorized where as at some point she could like leave the situation if she needed to. Brandon: Right. Yeah, that's it if she needed to, Lorin Williams: yeah, the stuff with the daughter was kind of strange and, ⁓ part with the son and his friend, I guess I would store like kid stuff that kind of went with the story. Brandon: Yeah, even that too was weird. I just thought the kids were kind of extra in the whole film. Like, you kind of got them here and there and yeah, I don't know. That was a weird part. Yeah, the whole phone thing, I was just like, what? It came out of nowhere too, is the thing, yeah. Lorin Williams: Yeah, I was a little distracted with that. But overall, thought, again, it was a really good film. ⁓ Kind of long, but it definitely delivered its message. ⁓ Very funny, even in the darker moments or then in the dramatic moments, it also delivers. you've gotten, you get a good balance. I thought that the ending was very... ⁓ Brandon: Yeah. Lorin Williams: very today, very current. I wasn't expecting it to sort of deliver that sort of message for what we're experiencing now. ⁓ But it was very forbading what could come and what people were trying to change labor into. So I thought it was really well done. Brandon: Yeah, that's true. Lorin Williams: Alright, that's our feature presentation and now we'll cascade into streams of the week. Let's see first off ⁓ I'm going to binge the first two seasons of My Adventure with Superman on HBO Max just because the third season is coming in June and I'm trying to get more into animation ⁓ It's ⁓ this very good Superman follows him in Metropolis he's just joined the Daily Planet along with Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane and ⁓ Brandon: Okay. Lorin Williams: They're trying to break into the journalism industry as interns trying to break a story and Lois gets the idea of, I want to find out who this Superman is. ⁓ And for Clark, he's trying to discover who he is because he's actually, it's like his origin story is as Superman. So he's gaining powers as he goes and whatnot. Halfway through the first season there's 10 episodes in season 1 I believe but it's really good ⁓ Jack Quaid plays Clark Kent I'm not sure if the other voice actors but it's really anime kind of stylized So as a different drawing than we've usually seen with Superman, but it's really strong pretty good so far Brandon: ⁓ wow. That's cool. Lorin Williams: ⁓ I watched the first episode of Man on Fire starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen, the second on Netflix. I did not realize this was a book series before it was a film and then Denzel did a remake of the film so now they're doing a series. ⁓ It was just a prequel. ⁓ Yahya is John Creasy who after a dramatic incident Brandon: Yeah. Lorin Williams: As part of a CIA operating team, he sort of joins, ⁓ is revived by a fellow friend. And after tragedy strikes, he has to protect ⁓ a young girl, which is basically the gist of Man on Fire anyway. ⁓ First episode was good. I wasn't expecting it to follow that exact storyline. I thought we'd get more just random missions, like leading up to who he'd become. I didn't know it'd be like a Brandon: The film, yeah. Lorin Williams: So the exact replica of the film story, but we'll see how this differs from the movie already. ⁓ Widows Bay over on Apple TV. This stars Matthew Reese as the mayor of a New England town that's looking to bring prosperity, bring tourists, but the townies suspect that the small city is haunted. Brandon: great. Lorin Williams: and Reese's character wants to debunk this myth so they can be prosperous and become the next... what's that place called? The next... ⁓ what's that place? ⁓ Martha's Vineyard. Like, he went that type of style ⁓ of things, but ⁓ he's sort of dared to stay in the alleged haunted hotel. Brandon: Gotcha, yeah. Lorin Williams: and things kind of go awry. It's a mix of like comedy and suspense and horror, which makes it a very unique watch. ⁓ Some of the supporting cast like Steven Root, who is usually hilarious ⁓ and some other faces I recognize, but it's very different. And I think that's what makes it stand out. So the first two episodes are out, new episodes drop every Wednesday. Brandon: Hmm. OK. That's good. Lorin Williams: And finally, HBO Max has Halfman out right now. I've seen the entire season of the limited series. I think two episodes are out right now. But this is a follow up from Richard Gadd, who did Baby Reindeer for Netflix. Stars him and Jamie Bell as two adoptive brothers. Relationship over the past 40 years and Brandon: Yeah. Yeah. Lorin Williams: really examines how harmful the patriarchy is to men's perspective on themselves in society. Jamie Bell's character, Neil, is closeted and he fears that his sexuality will be his undoing while he finds courage in his stepbrother, Ruben, who is like, the masculine man he wishes he could be, but Ruben is also brash and unexpectedly violent when he doesn't get his way. So they have this co-dependent relationship that's just not healthy. The full season is only six episodes. So I episode three comes out this Thursday, but it's very good. So if you get a chance. Brandon: Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I keep seeing stuff about it, so yeah, I'll have to give it a try. Lorin Williams: Yeah, I will say I didn't watch Baby Reindeer, but I knew that Gad's work can be very intense, very honest. Man is that. Like, it's heavy, it's brash, it's unflinchingly brutal. So, but very good performances. Brandon: Yeah. Okay. Lorin Williams: Anything you want to mention or you're going to watch in the next few weeks. Brandon: I'm trying to think right now. I had the three month trial of Mubi and it was getting close to running out so I just kind of knocked out as much stuff as I could. So like I said, I already think I mentioned playing clothes last weekend, the history of sound. There was this other movie, La Garzia, which was interesting. was a really beautiful film, but it's about ⁓ a man who's in power who's kind of getting up there in age. Much like the stuff we've been talking about, he has to figure out who he is and what he becomes when he's no longer this man in power. It's very interesting film. was an Italian film. I'm trying think what else I knocked out on there. ⁓ A lot of small things. ⁓ But... Lorin Williams: you Brandon: Yeah, I'm mostly just trying to get through these streaming services, just stuff I've had in there for a while. then as for shows, I'm so far behind on shows. Jesus, I just can't keep up. Lorin Williams: Good idea. ⁓ Yeah. Like, I missed the entire season of Monarch. Like, I was ready for it to come back, and I've watched one and a half episodes. what the hell? Brandon: Yeah It's too much. It's too much. And then I guess we can talk about it next week, but I did. I've watched half of episode three of Euphoria and I didn't hate it. It made me feel a little bit more like the old Euphoria, just a little bit. And I think it's because they had the cast together more and all in the same place. But. Lorin Williams: Right. Altogether, yeah, yeah. And that's why I think I would have done it where they're coming back for their high school reunion. like, so they're all together and you'll learn about their backstory. So like Yellow Jackets kind of did. That would have been more interesting instead of the way it is, but they are back together. It was better since they were all kind of together working off each other. ⁓ Brandon: Right. Yeah. right. And then I'll go ahead, or if you got some of those. ⁓ Tomorrow, I've been waiting for this for a while, I think it's tomorrow, that's the fourth, Netflix drops the Lord of the Flies series. And if you are an American or if you're from the UK, I'm sure you read this book, maybe not the kids now, I'm not sure if they can read, but we... ⁓ Lorin Williams: No, no, go, go. I wasn't gonna say anything. Yes. You Brandon: Yeah, so we had the movie and that movie had been made in the 40s, the old one. And I don't think it's been redone since then. We've had different versions. That's essentially what Yellow Jackets is, is Lord of the Flies. But yeah, it looks good. It looks very good and premiered maybe a week before on BBC in the UK. So we're going to get late as always, but I'm very excited for that. Lorin Williams: Yeah, thing is pretty old, yeah. Yeah, because the person behind this, also the adolescents with Stephen Graham. So we're kind of getting that kind of sensibility together. Yeah. This week we have Lord of the Flies on the 4th, on May 7th. I think it's AMC Plus or AMC is dropping a third season of The Terror out of nowhere. This is Devil in Silver. It's focusing on, guess, a very ⁓ prolific mental institution or asylum. Brandon: Right, yes. ⁓ Yeah. Lorin Williams: Stars Dan Stevens, so that should be good. ⁓ And the ninth, HBO Max has Song of the Samurai. This is a Japanese series. Brandon: Yeah, I've seen that and I don't know what... Lorin Williams: Yeah, I don't know much about it. But knives and whatnot, I'm kind of interested. ⁓ Okay. Brandon: And then, was it you or maybe I just saw it myself, the maximum pleasure guaranteed with Tatiana Masolny. I swear I keep seeing stuff about that. That's on Apple TV as well. Lorin Williams: Yes, that's, yeah, I forget the date, but it's coming soon. That actually looks really good. She plays a divorcee who believes she witnessed a murder and she's set on solving it herself. Let me see if I can find the premiere date. Brandon: Yeah. Yes, yeah. So I think it's in May, it has to be. Lorin Williams: May 20th, it'll make its debut, by stars her and Jake Johnson. Brandon: Yeah. And then two more things I saw. The news actually hit two weeks or so ago, but I saw it last week that the savant, the show with Jessica Justine that got shelved after Charlie Kirk got killed is going to be back, will hit Apple TV or I'm not sure who's going to do it, but in July. And I was like, ⁓ OK, I really want to see it. My only thing is. Lorin Williams: Okay. Brandon: Since it never started, I don't know if we'll be getting the version they made or if things have been plucked out. Lorin Williams: Right, that's a very good question. Because they shelved it for Charlie Kerr thing as if gun violence happened every day, as if white supremacy just disappeared. I don't know, I'm being scared. Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to that. Brandon: Yeah, was like, what? Exactly. Yeah. And then the last, the last thing is in late in May. ⁓ And I think you watched the first season. Deli Boys? I saw that that comes back. Did you? Yeah. Okay. I need to start it. Yeah. Lorin Williams: Yes, I actually finished the first season. I'm like midway. I'm very happy that I renewed because that's why I kind of kind of pause. I don't know if they're gonna get renewed or not. But yes, Deli Boy comes back the 28th. Let's ⁓ see on the 14th Netflix will have Nemesis. This is the next series from the Creator of Power. So I'm interested in that. The Duffer Brothers will release the Burrows on the 21st. Brandon: Ooh. Yeah. Lorin Williams: This is their follow up to Stranger Things. It's basically Stranger Things at a retirement facility with elders. Kinda sorta. Brandon: Okay. I will, Okay. Lorin Williams: right but it stars like Alfred Molina, Alfred Woodard, Gina Davis, like there's power a powerful cast. May 27th this is also highlights Spider Noir on Prime Video Drops and this is a live action Spider-Man series starring Nicolas Cage as his Spider-verse character. So it's set in like Brandon: Okay. Yeah, yeah. You're late. Lorin Williams: Pro Bishonera, New York City. He plays one of those like old school detectives ⁓ who just happens to have the Spider-Man powers. So you can actually choose to watch it in a color or you can watch it in the authentic black and white. So there's two ways you can watch it on Prime Video. So yeah, that's gotten a lot of push. Supporting cast includes Brandon Gleason, Lamorne Morris. Brandon: ⁓ wow. Okay. Lorin Williams: Lee Joon-li from The Sinners. So yeah, it looks really good. And I don't know if you watched the first ⁓ season of The Four Seasons. I didn't watch it, but... Brandon: No, I do remember it, but no I didn't. Lorin Williams: Yeah, season two arrives on the 28th as well. And that's the, like romantic comedy starring Tina Fey, Carmen Domingo. I think Tim Hader or one of those people. Maybe, I don't know. Brandon: Yeah, I'll have to see. But yeah, there's a lot. And it seems like a lot of them have hit streaming networks. Because when I put No Other Choice in there, I saw the film ⁓ Good Boy, which is this horror film about a dog. So I'll have to check that out. And then the other one that's a musical and it stars Amanda Seyfried. It's also on Hulu right now. ⁓ Lorin Williams: you have the testament of amand- ⁓ not amanda, something lee, yeah yeah i also saw that send help will be on the hulu pretty soon already and there was something else but now i forget what it was streaming is basically how you rent movies now but you're just paying a constant fee Brandon: some something Lee yes I can't remember her name but yeah so I'm gonna watch that as well Yes. Yeah. ⁓ And I was just about to get at that because I don't know the exact date, but Hulu is about to disappear, right? Isn't it just about to go into Disney? Yeah. Lorin Williams: It's supposed to be part of Disney, yeah. I don't know when, they said it was supposed to happen in March, but they're still too different. So I don't know if you're gonna get the email saying that. Most of the stuff is already there already, or you'll just wake up and who's gone and it's just Disney Plus, I don't know. Brandon: Yeah. Are you just right? All right. Again, it's too much. Lorin Williams: Yeah, it really is. But yeah, there's a lot happening. We've got to monitor this whole ⁓ Paramount WBD merger thing. There's still folks against it. It may buckle, it may not. We'll have to wait and see, but I'm really hoping it doesn't happen. Brandon: Yeah, that's true. No, because I'd be insane, Lorin Williams: Yeah. And as far as movies, this past weekend we had Devil Works product two come out. People were praising it pretty, pretty well. ⁓ and then this week, I think we get more combat two, if I'm not mistaken. Let me, May. Brandon: That's right, ⁓ yeah, that's right. Yeah, I hope Devil Wears product continues to do well. And I wish more films did sequels like that. Like don't, you don't have to wait 20 plus years or however long it's been, but it actually feels like a genuine earned sequel. mean, everybody's much older than they were and the story makes sense and yeah, so I hope it does well. Lorin Williams: Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah, so the eighth we have more combat two, the sheep detectives, which is some film starring Hugh Jackman. I've seen Amazon push that forever. Blue film is coming. I don't know if it's coming to theater near you, but this movie is supposed to be very controversial. It was shunned from two film festivals. It's basically about a young man who is a camp boy, sex worker who Brandon: Yeah, I keep seeing that commercial. ⁓ I remember that. Lorin Williams: spends the evening with a gentleman and how that evolves. So I know that's been on people's tongues recently. Then the next weekend we've got Is God Is. This is the film. Not sure who directs it. Who is the director? Brandon: Yeah. Lorin Williams: But it stars ⁓ Sterling K. Brown, Kara Young, Janelle Monae, Vivica A. Fox, Erica Alexander, two ⁓ sisters plan of revenge against their father, played by Brown, who ⁓ intentionally burned their mother, played by Vivica A. Fox. So it's a very off-kilter film. then the next, I think following next weekend, we get I Love Boosters from... ⁓ Brandon: Yeah. Lorin Williams: Riley, what's his name? Boots Riley. Brandon: in that Boots rather yeah, I was but I couldn't think of it. Yeah Lorin Williams: So I'm very excited about that. So yeah, the film for this summer are heating up, not just like the major blockbusters. There's a lot of good stuff coming out. So hopefully I'll be willing to go to the theater. Brandon: some good films. Yeah, the big blockbuster job. Yeah, because the let's see, Devil Worse Prada, guess Devil Worse Prada and Michael are both what I consider blockbusters, but I think Odyssey is going to blow everything out of the water. That comes in June, I believe. I think that's just going to just decimate the box office. Lorin Williams: Yeah. Yeah, and I've been privy just to sort of monitor like some trailers. I'm not trying to watch the full on trailer, because I mean, everyone knows the story, but I don't want too much information. Brandon: Right. Lorin Williams: I kind of want to experience the most of it as blind as possible. Brandon: No, I absolutely agree. Lorin Williams: But yeah, I think this would be a good year for movies. Brandon: Yeah, I think so too. Lorin Williams: If you're hearing this, we've come to the end of this episode of It's A Streamable Life podcast with Brenda and Lorin Catch us on the next time. We'll probably be discussing some of these shows. Hopefully we'll be discussing Lord of the Flies since The British Love, a short season. But until then, keep on streaming. Brandon: Yes, absolutely. Peace.
