Lorin W.: If you're hearing this, thank you for pressing play on another edition of It's a Stream able a Life Podcast with Brandon and Lorin We are nearing the end of June and right now we're gearing up for ⁓ a special episode celebrating Black Music Month, which is also celebrated in June. So we'll get to that in a little bit. But first, ⁓ how was your weekend? We saw each other again. Brandon: ⁓ Yeah, that's what's I'd say. Yeah, it's pretty good. It's two weekends in a row, so yeah, we came over that way. ⁓ little pre Father's Day celebration. but yeah, it was pretty good. ⁓ unfortunately I think it's about to storm again. This one ⁓ may be pretty nasty. ⁓ getting tired of that, but that comes with the summer and being in the Midwest. But other than that, yeah, it's been pretty good. Lorin W.: Yeah. Yeah, it Yeah, same here. ⁓ we had dinner today for Father's Day and just been kinda relaxing after that and yeah, kinda gearing forward the weather. Hopefully everything stays intact and whatnot. We've got House of the Dragon, I don't want cable or anything to go out or something, so ⁓ but yeah, yeah. Move quickly and stealthily as possible. Brandon: Yes, God. Right. Right. So hopefully it moves quickly, I guess we'll see. Right. Lorin W.: ⁓ first off, before we get into our future presentation, we're gonna get into our headlines. And given that you are our sort of our our sports afasciando here, ⁓ we are in the midst of the World Cup held here in the States. ⁓ I'm not sure when the last time that's happened or if this is a first. I do we know when the last time we held the World Cup? Brandon: Yeah. Yeah, so the last time it happened was in nineteen ninety four and even though it's two thousand twenty six it's it's still countries usually don't get it again within twenty years. So for us to have it that quickly again is pretty quick, ⁓ and interesting and a lot of people think there are multiple reasons behind that, one of ⁓ being money, knowing that coming to the United States is going to make Bank and FIFA, the organization behind the World Cup, is not necessarily a good one. So to have this current administration and FIFA come together, yeah, ⁓ money is is king here. So ⁓ but the games have been good, the fans have taken Lorin W.: Yeah. ⁓ Brandon: ⁓ to the cities they've been in, Kansas City, which, you know, for Americans is like, what? But, you know, they're having fun in Kansas City, in Boston, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Seattle. And this World Cup's actually shared with three countries. So Toronto and Vancouver have games as well as well as Mexico City. I know Guadalajara, Monterey and maybe yeah, just Mexico City. I'm not sure where else. But yeah, so so far so good. No nothing really ⁓ Lorin W.: Right. Hmm. Brandon: out of the ordinary, but it's it's been funny to see some of the reactions of people to American things. Yeah, so but yeah, it's it's been good so far. Lorin W.: Right. Yeah. Yeah, I've seen some discourse online just about, you know, the cuisine and they didn't know we were so cultured and it's like, okay. But yeah, I don't I don't know. ⁓ but yeah, it's it's been exciting to see and you know, there was some trepidation of course given who our administration and their outlook on immigration and that has been an issue here and there, which Brandon: Right. A what? Yeah. Right. Right. Lorin W.: doesn't make any sense. But hopefully things are are going good. People seem to be enjoying the games. I've seen a lot of people root for their respective countries, ⁓ or choosing a country to root for. so yeah, it it's been interesting. Brandon: Yeah. Yeah, and and it'll be w interesting 'cause we're entering they're entering the part of the tournament where teams start to get eliminated. So the amount of people here will drastically decrease and and then, you know, it will go down to all American cities. And then the final, unfortunately, is in MetLife. They couldn't have picked a worse stadium. Like, so Lorin W.: Mm. Duendo. Yeah. Brandon: But yeah. Either way, yeah, let just hope for the next twenty or so days it goes off without a hitch and people keep enjoying themselves, so Lorin W.: Right, right. And s staying that sports round we have ⁓ the New York Knicks were crowned the NBA champions ⁓ this Brandon: Yeah. Yeah, I believe so. Lorin W.: almost a week and a half ago now. ⁓ after a fifty three year gap, the last one in like the seventies when the majority of us were not here or thought of. So, it's kind of crazy 'cause they were always in contention, especially in the nineties, but I never realized they never actually made it or actually won. ⁓ they made it in nineteen ninety nine but lost. So it was a great feat for them and it just kind of Brandon: Right. Right. Lorin W.: another notch in Mamdanny's Brandon: Yeah. Lorin W.: helmet, like he he's he's definitely brought us a sense of pride and joy to the city. Brandon: Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. And of i it sucks to see as a Pacers fan, but ⁓ it is one of those fan bases where it's just I don't know how to put it into words. You you do expect them to be higher, like with the Lakers and the Spurs and the the Celtics. But yeah, they've just had a five decades of horrible, horrible luck. It's Lorin W.: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. 'Cause I can remember I vaguely remember I think the years, you know, Alan Houston, John Starks, Patrick Ewing and them just always coming up short, either with the Pacers or the Pacers. Like I think I think that was like the the the rivalry then. Brandon: Right. Right. Lorin W.: But yeah, congrats to them. Jalen Brunson is a young star. I didn't realize how young he actually is. and they finally got the right chemistry with Mike Brown as coach. Josh Hart. ⁓ really happy for Kat given, you know his life the past two years, everything he went through with COVID and his family and whatnot. That was great to see. So, ⁓ I hope they don't show up to the White House, but it looks like they are. Brandon: Right. Yeah, everything he went through. Lorin W.: I don't know. That's what yeah. That's what their owner said, which is very interesting. But con congrats to them, yeah. Brandon: Well Yeah, we'll see ya. Yeah, he's like tr yeah, he's like Trump's buddy, so I yeah. Lorin W.: Yeah, he said they're going, but I don't think there was ever an actual team agreement, so Moving on to entertainment news, ⁓ the Department of Justice has approved the Paramount Warner Brothers Discovery merger, and there is still much angst around this monopolization of the industry. ⁓ there's so lawsuits that are pending from different senators in different states. ⁓ there's international outcry. like the BBC is calling for the stoppage of this. ⁓ and there was a recent Brandon: Yeah, absolutely. Lorin W.: study where they said at least twenty five hundred jobs in LA alone will be lost with this convergence and almost six thousand globally. So it's not something good for an industry that's already struggling to make bank like they used to. apart from like the political side of it, it's just not good Brandon: Damn. Lorin W.: for the in for the industry, for the economy and for work for consumers. I I don't understand the need to do this to satisfy l the literal one percent that's making profit off of this while everyone else suffers. Brandon: For t no. No. And I don't think it's going to ⁓ I don't think it's gonna last. And I think maybe someone in Netflix knows that and they're kinda playing the vulture role right now, like, yeah, when this dies, we're gonna go ahead and feast on this and get it for cheaper. Lorin W.: Right. Yeah. Cause if you know your T V history, HBO well Warner Brothers in general has done this before when they wanted to partner with AT way back in the day and it was a horrible, horrible merger and basically a big flop. So they've been here before and Davis Aslov only came to Warner Brothers because he was trying to save Discovery. He has not led the company well, in my opinion. Brandon: Yeah, yeah. Lorin W.: so yeah, it it could blow up in their face and it'll be a massive, massive red scar in in in history. Like it it's just insane to think a a deal of one hundred billion dollars just tanking. ⁓ so and I think it's ⁓ yeah. Brandon: Absolutely. Right. I think it's just a matter of time. We just Lorin W.: Definitely. I think it's the root one of the root causes for our next two stories. ⁓ Quinta Brunson announced that she would be leaving her five year deal with Warner Brothers to move over to Disney. Warner Brothers where she developed ABBA Elementary, ⁓ and she had a four year deal. Well, she had a five year deal and allegedly they was that Ryan. No. Okay. She had a deal with them and people said sh her Brandon: Mm. Lorin W.: Allegedly her uneasiness about who would be on Warren Brothers had her move to Disney. So she'll be developing television over there. ⁓ and the same with Ryan Kugler's Proxmi Proximity Media, his TV ⁓ outlook outfit, is leaving Disney for Netflix. ⁓ he had a five year deal there and he was ready to recoup for a four year deal. And I guess they wanted to pay him less. Brandon: Okay. ⁓ wow. Lorin W.: And this is after him winning an Oscar for Sinners. so he immediately also departed ⁓ and joined the Netflix rank. ⁓ but he will still have some projects under the Disney umbrella, including his X Files reboot over at Hulu. So those deals projects will still remain there, but he'll be developing more T V ⁓ projects under the Tadum umbrella, so Brandon: Right. ⁓ does that have a date yet, the X Files thing? Lorin W.: No, they have cast for the pilot, which I'm sure they're maybe filming by now, and if Hulu likes it, it'll get approved. Brandon: Yeah. Lorin W.: ⁓ pilot season, like we said, has returned to the streamers. ⁓ we see Warren Brothers doing this with ⁓ their new legal and cop drama similar to the pit. It will have a pilot and they will pick it up after that. And we saw Hulu recently ⁓ decline the Buffy reboot off a pilot, so it's TV under a new name, basically. Brandon: Okay. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Lorin W.: Alright, we'll trans transition to our feature presentation where we'll celebrate Black Music Month ⁓ discussing the new HBMAX documentary that came out about Earth Wind and Fire, directed by Quest Love of The Roots. ⁓ documentary basically chronicled the rise, fall, and lingering success and legacy of the band Earth Wind and Fire, which was founded and led by ⁓ the late Maurice White. ⁓ you also have ⁓ Verdeen White, Philip Baylor. and Ron Johnson who are sort of the original main brothers that continue the band performing and touring to this day. ⁓ so what was your general impression with the documentary after you know the credits started to roll? What was your what were your thoughts? Brandon: Yeah. ⁓ I enjoyed it. I think there there wasn't anything bad. Learned a lot, ⁓ genuinely, and ⁓ it seemed it's weird. For two hours it still seemed to move very quickly. Like it was at like a quick pace. And I was just like, ⁓ dang, how okay, so c it just felt like we went from this part to this part to this part and I thought maybe some of the interviews could have been a little bit longer, but in terms of like entertainment and and Lorin W.: Yeah. Brandon: That I was like, Yeah, it's good and it's one of those things like, you know, you have it all the time in music documentaries. You you hear a song and you just automatically just like, ⁓ yeah, that's right. Yeah, that's the you know, and yeah, so it was a bit of that as well. Lorin W.: Yeah, yeah. I I enjoyed it as well. I I similar with what you said, the two hours just seemed to go by fast and I think I would have liked and liked a docuseries or at least like a three part thing to get more in depth with the subject matter. ⁓ 'cause since I was familiar with them, of course the music stuff was sort of already known, but I wanted to know more about, you know, their lives while Brandon: Yes, yeah. Personal. Yeah. Lorin W.: This was coming together. now we did learn a lot about Maurice White's life and his growing up and where the vision for the group and his goal was, which was very interesting. ⁓ I guess I was probably just too young to understand the philosophical things that Earth One Fire was actually saying in their music and in their presentation and at that time for a black group. ⁓ Brandon: Right. Exactly. Lorin W.: Yeah, it it was interesting, but I I would have liked liked some deep dive into, you know, Verdeen's life growing up away from Maurice in Chicago and like how Phillip came how his background and stuff like that a bit more in depth. Brandon: Right. Exactly. Because no no, I agree absolutely because it did seem more of a Maurice White documentary than a Earth Wind and Fire documentary. That and he was the face of the group, he was the lead singer, he made the songs and and probably one of the more interesting stories of the band members. But yeah, it just seemed very focused on him, so Lorin W.: Right, right. and then general likes, like like I said, the hearing the music cues, like you like you said, it automatically got you to singing and just calling ⁓ what's it called? ⁓ call back and response to the T V like like you're at a show. ⁓ I liked seeing ⁓ even the I guess the I I kinda assume the interviews that were Brandon: Yes. Right, yeah. Right. Lorin W.: of other members not current meant maybe those members have passed on as well, I wasn't sure. ⁓ but I liked liked hearing from them as well and just realizing how young they were getting to this business, ⁓ which looks very different from what it looks like today. Brandon: Yeah, I think so. Right. Lorin W.: With just them embarking on what they loved and taking that risk and it and it really blossoming to something that became universal, exactly what ⁓ Maurice Maurice had in mind. ⁓ Brandon: Yeah. What was interesting is it kinda like I said, one of the things I like about it is that obviously I know the music, but there was a lot I learned, like I said, the whole you look back now with their album covers and the way you're dressing, like you said, and you start to see this whole astrology, metaphysical type thing and that they are into and ⁓ I guess I Lorin W.: Mm-hmm. Brandon: You know, I always know the stuff that like our parents grew had the that era of Earth when the Fire. So that eighties era, that was completely new information to me. I was like, what? Like like the Yeah, I was like, What is he doing? Right. Lorin W.: Yeah, I have no clue. And apparently they didn't either, 'cause we don't ha I d I couldn't tell you a single song. And maybe I do know a song from the era and know it wasn't the eighties. But like any other like black act going from like the sixties, seventies to the eighties was like a dramatic Brandon: Right, that could be it. Right. Lorin W.: ⁓ advanced time in technology and sound and production and you had to adapt and a lot of the bands couldn't. they tried, but it just wasn't their sound, unfortunately. So that's when you get sort of like the sort of lower tier Earthworm Fire music and whatnot. and yeah it was interesting to learn also about the Brandon: Right. Right. Lorin W.: basically the group's disbandment, like what was occurring, unfortunately Maurice got big headed and and that that happens a lot where the maestro feels that they because they're writing or arranging and producing the art then they should own the rights to to the music and the publishing. ⁓ that's like black art music artists one ⁓ one is always gonna come up. Brandon: Yeah. Right. Exactly, yeah. Lorin W.: Go ahead. Brandon: ⁓ no, I was just gonna it's it's it's interesting though. ⁓ like you said, they had that drop and I'm glad they said it because there is so Earth Wind & Fire is is is sampled so much in hip hop. And they do have this resurgence. They came to Indianapolis last year and it's just sold out. It was them and ⁓ Carlos Santana. So two people of that time who ⁓ well into their seventies right now, early ⁓ and they ⁓ still smashing it, still killing it. It's it's very odd, but ⁓ happy for ⁓ but Lorin W.: Mm. Yeah. Right, right, yeah. I I could echo the same when they showed them at Bonnaroo with ⁓ Kendrick and Chance to Rapper. We were there for that and and seeing the cross generational ⁓ contributions and letting realizing that they touch generations of artists beyond their reach. ⁓ it's it's really cool to see and unfortunately we don't have groups like that today, like live instrumentation, just Brandon: Yeah. Right. No. Lorin W.: isn't a thing in mainstream. It may be happening on the indie circuits or at clubs throughout the city or whatnot, or throughout the country or whatnot, but you don't see guitars and congos, bong and bongos and xylophones on stage unless it's a a older, like a legacy group, so Brandon: Right. Country. No, not at all. Lorin W.: Good for them to try and for sticking to their to what they're good f what they were meant what they were good at, you know, their their mission, their core as artists. ⁓ and it's it's definitely carried on through generations. ⁓ so what are your top five Earth Wind and Fire songs? Brandon: Okay, so this one I thought it was gonna be difficult, but I I do listen to them quite often, so it's actually kinda easy to go through like my playlist and see. But ⁓ for me I'll start at the bottom. So even though it's maybe the most famous one, at five I put September, ⁓ four, sing a song, three, that's the way of the world, two fantasy, and then one reasons. Lorin W.: Mm. Brandon: I just ⁓ f and the number one and they talked about in there how it's not really like a love love song reasons, but even hearing that, that's not gonna change people's minds. Cause when you hear that falsetto come in, yeah, it's a love song. Like it's it's perfect. Lorin W.: It's not. Right. Yeah. And if it's not a love song, people are having love, making love to it regardless. So Yeah, my top five are one second. I had it written down here. Brandon: Right, absolutely. Yeah. Lorin W.: The story at number five is ⁓ Can't Hide Love, even though it's a cover, which I didn't realize until, you know, I was much older that they covered that only like a few years after the original, and I prefer theirs. ⁓ number four, keep your head to the sky, is has like the same potency of Sound of Blackness Optimistic. Like it's just Brandon: Okay. Yeah. ⁓ wow. Yeah. Lorin W.: like a staple in black music. ⁓ number three was fantasy. Number two is devotion. ⁓ and my number one is also reasons, the live gratitude version. If you come up to me with the studio version of Reasons, what are you doing? Like I don't even know what that sounds like. Yeah. I don't know what that is. Get that away from me. ⁓ so yeah it was a great documentary. Brandon: Right. Yeah. Just All right. Yeah, you gotta hear the people in the crowd, yeah. Yeah. Lorin W.: If you haven't checked it out, it's an HBO Max where you can stream it. hopefully there's like a director's cut. I don't know. I just wanted I just wanted more about them. Yeah, yeah. All right, and now we're gonna get into our streams of the week. Brandon: Yeah. No, I completely agree. Lorin W.: ⁓ I'll start with something I did not mean to watch. ⁓ the only reason I'm watching it is because we'd have someone review it for the site I write for. But ⁓ Print Videos The Legend of Vox Machnia. This is a animated series based on a role-playing ⁓ Brandon: Mm. Lorin W.: campaigns created by Critical Role who basically live stream like their ⁓ Dungeons and Dragons role playing. ⁓ they started maybe in the early two thousand early twenty tens and have now made it an empire where they have two series on Prime Video. They're playing a movie. yeah, it it's a whole thing. ⁓ so it's very interesting. ⁓ they basically took the campaign they created Brandon: Wow. Lorin W.: you know, playing with friends to this series where a group of, you know, ⁓ uncharacteristic heroes come together and must fight, you know, this fantastical evil in the land of Alexandria. ⁓ it it is pretty good. It's a half hour and it's sort of like an adult animation, so Brandon: Right. Lorin W.: No, there's cursing, there's crude humor and whatnot, but the action and suspense and writing is is pretty decent. So this is they're on season four. I think season five may be the last. I don't know. But ⁓ if you ever want to check out some animation, it's all on prime video. It's easy to get sucked in with the half hour episodes. ⁓ Yeah. Brandon: Okay. Yeah, that's true. Lorin W.: ⁓ and then we are discussing Apple TV's Windows Widows Bay, which just had its season finale last week. this is like the surprise hit of the year. This between this and Wonder Man are like my top two wouldn't have guessed it shows for the year so far. Brandon: Right. No, absolutely, absolutely. And and this one from ⁓ go ahead, go ahead. Lorin W.: ⁓ if you're I'm No, I was just gonna say if you're unfamiliar with the series, ⁓ as far as Matthew Reese as the mayor of a New England town which is looking to sort of rebuild itself as a tourist attraction, but he ran into trouble given the alleged ⁓ supernatural hauntings that occurs on the island next to the sea and how he and his ⁓ comrades in City Hall government kind of deal with those those troubles. No we're just gonna say. Brandon: ⁓ well what was gonna say is that this was one of those shows where ⁓ I just kept hearing about it and I was just like, you know what, let me just check it out and was glad that I did. ⁓ 'cause usually that's not always the case. But yeah, it it is very good. Kinda hits all those checks a lot of boxes. You got ⁓ humor, it is very funny, you've got the great acting. ⁓ I saw a lot of people said that they were genuinely like not scared, but that the horror's good. And there are some Lorin W.: Mm-hmm. Brandon: jump scares. But like but yeah, it it and it's light hearted in a way, even though it's covering like heavy things, it's still very good. So yeah, really enjoyable. Lorin W.: Yeah. Mhm. Yeah, I will say it's not necessarily scary, but they know how to build suspense and they know how to make you uneasy, which is I think is more ⁓ terrifying than your quote unquote typical horror. ⁓ especially with a show like this where they don't have like a Lord of the Rings budget. So everything has to be some c somewhat practical, but they definitely get the ⁓ point across. ⁓ Brandon: Right. No, I agree. Right. Lorin W.: There's just yeah, it's it's great. All the characters are quirky and defined in their own way, which kind of provides a more authentic sort of town next door feeling. ⁓ and the sort of the universality in that. and I think the last few episodes leading to this finale were Brandon: Yeah, absolutely. Lorin W.: Incredible. Desmond leaned more into the eeriness and the history of Widows Bay, but still had the the comedy right underneath. ⁓ What what did you think of the last episode and did you see that coming? What we learned. Brandon: Yeah. Yeah. not really but I thought it I thought it was well done and I could see how there will be another season. You said it got renewed, right? Yeah, so I it definitely how there could be more. My only concern though is that there is new season. I hope they just don't go like ⁓ how do I say this? Like Lorin W.: Yes. Brandon: They probably don't like stray and do too much. But but like ⁓ Lorin W.: Right. Right. Brandon: No, I ⁓ a as for the the finale, yeah, no. It was great, great suspense, the whole poisoning thing and everything going on, there was just there was a lot though. But the whole thing of bringing somebody back from the dead, yeah, I just was like, huh? And s sorry for any spoilers or whatever, but i it there's a moment where you're just like, wait a second Lorin W.: Yeah. Yeah, it Yeah, it was definitely interesting. sort of d dilemma that Matthews Tom faces like the last thirty minutes. Great scene work between him and that actress. just them in this room and also the commotion with the townspeople and tourists. and I have to say I know that his son Evan has sort of Brandon: But Yeah. Lorin W.: The strained relationship with him and the town, whatever. But stop being so hardheaded. Like stop doing stupid shit. Cause you're pissing me off. And like that that what happened with them did not have to happen. That man was just doing his job and now he's gone. So what? Brandon: Yeah, absolutely. No, no, no, no. Just Right, right. But I do like the whole like I said I like how How do I say it like the the creepiness and the story is just everything in part of the part of the town. How people aren't like allowed to leave the town, ⁓ only people who were born like in New York City can come and go, but if you're born in Widows Bay, you can't leave. Like or like some weird shit will happen to you. But that whole thing with the the church bells tolling like eight times, I was kinda just like ⁓ shit. Like, ⁓ wow. Like you know, and that's what I'm saying, yeah. I think it's gonna set up something very good. Lorin W.: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, and I feel like I'm really happy that ⁓ everyone seemed to survive. No, we did lose some people early on in the season. They seem to sort of like peripheral to the main story. ⁓ Brandon: Yeah. Lorin W.: But we do have all our our characters. So it's gonna be interesting how they reconcile forward, like will we have a time jump, will we see the birth of the child, or how how is that going to be? ⁓ I like how they're also censoring the sheriff and his family and they're not feeling like tokenism or weird. Brandon: Right. Mm-hmm. Lorin W.: like race stuff or poorly written stuff. He he feels like a full character. ⁓ yeah, it's just all very good. ⁓ I'm not sure would this be considered a comedy giv also given how it's runtime? Brandon: Ooh. I don't know. That's a good w I guess. Yeah, I generally don't know what they'd consider. Like for like you're talking about like for like the Emmys or something? Yeah, I don't know. Lorin W.: Yeah. Mm hmm. Cause it's it's the funny is there and the scary is there. And we know the enemies don't really do too much genre. So c comedy seems like the most safest place for it. Especially if we're talking about like lead actor, supporting actor, whatnot. Brandon: Right. Lorin W.: And it seems like fans have already ⁓ crowned Patricia as like the character of the series, like the their favorite character. ⁓ 'cause her episode was just incredible. I love ⁓ the the twist at the end, ⁓ and then her continuing sort of like the same story. It it's great because the narratives follow each other. Like it's not like Brandon: Yeah. Yeah, that's true. Lorin W.: they're separate or it's a case ⁓ yeah, everything's tied in and it continues and it has that specificity where it makes sense. It's just it's good T V. Yeah. Brandon: No, everything is tied in, yeah. Yeah, it's well done. And in Patricia's episode, one part that got me it was just like and there's some laugh out loud moments throughout the series, but when she used the taser on Old Girl, I just I couldn't stop laughing. I was like, Finally, thank you, but ⁓ man. Right. Lorin W.: Right. She's like, you guys, she's the worst. Like, come on. That and in one of the most recent episodes or one of the later episodes when Tom dropped that painting on him and the woman's like, No, don't move. I mean he could have a spine injury. He's like, No, get it off of me That was just so absurd. 'Cause it's just like regular day stuff in the middle of sort of like this very dire situation. Brandon: Yeah. Right. Right. Lorin W.: But yeah, I think they balance both a comedy and horror ver very well, which most of the time horror and comedy are are two Ps in the pod. Yeah. They kind of they're both looking to get interaction out of you, whether it's laugh, laugh funny or you're laughing because you're you're terrified. It's almost the same same response. So it it's definitely a surprise hit. Yeah. Brandon: Yeah. Close, yeah. Yeah. Right. And I will say it wa maybe while it wasn't the most terrifying part of the show, ⁓ when Tom initially goes to the inn and he has that full night with that guy who he's talking to, ⁓ you get what's coming, but it's so well done that when you know, you learn what's happening, it's still very creepy. And it is well acted. I think that's part of it as well. Lorin W.: Yeah. Yeah, I I didn't know what to expect. And and that's like the type of scary that I enjoy. Like I'm not really scared or impressed with, you know, the slasher movie or like monsters and demons. I want there to be some sense of realism. Brandon: Right. No, no. Lorin W.: like if you're inside a nightmare or inside your your worst scenario and yeah you waking up to realize this guest that you were having full blown conversations with may have been an apparition and then is chasing you down a crawl space as a murderous clown, that shit was scary. Like clowns in general, but the like the claustrophobia of it all yeah. Terrifying Brandon: Exactly. Exactly. Yes, ch Jesus Christ. Right, right. Lorin W.: not sure when season two is coming. I hope it's not two years later. Like, let's let's turn it around. ⁓ but it's interesting when I first when I initially described the show, I saw other people describing the same way. It's like ⁓ of course we learned that the writer had based this as a spec for parks and recreation. So it definitely has that small town government. Brandon: Yeah. ⁓ Lorin W.: feel and the bureaucracy of, you know, City Hall and landscape and sheriff's whatnot. But then it has a touch of severance, just given the lore that it builds around this isolated place. ⁓ and then the the horror bits of it. I the best I could describe it was like Ghost and Mr. Chicken, which is an old, old film I used to watch as a kid that starred Don Knotts as sort of like this Brandon: Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. Lorin W.: ⁓ Goofy Townsman who's challenged to stay in a haunted house and he sees the ghost but no one believes him. And that's basically Tom, ⁓ in in the series. So yeah, if you if you haven't watched it yet, one, why don't you have Apple T V? It's literally the best thing since HBO. Like honestly. ⁓ definitely check it out. I'm sure they have some type of Brandon: True. True. Lorin W.: special summer deal or something. If you get a new iPhone, get Apple T V for free for three months, something. But just check it out. Ten episodes, half hours for the most part. Also kudos to Betty Glipin Betty Gilpin for her ⁓ episode, which was sort like the period piece that showed like the history of the town settling. And also ⁓ Hamish Link Liter. Is that his name? I'm gonna make sure I say his name right. Brandon: Yeah. Yeah. I think so. Hold on. I just had the cast up. Lorin W.: Yeah. Yes, Hammer Slink Liter, who is known for ⁓ New Avengers of Oak Christine's where I first saw him. He played Julie Louise Dreyfus' brother, but he's gone on to be in some masterful roles, ⁓ including ⁓ that horror series from Mike Flanagan, ⁓ Brandon: Yeah. Mm. Lorin W.: And he voices Batman and Batman Cape Crusader on Prime Video. So he's a very versatile actor.
