Chaz: One action Ed: Yeah. Right, ladies and gentlemen, after a two month hiatus and many attempts on Charlie's end to get get episode are we on to episode four? Chaz: Yeah, you suck at replying. You've just been ghosting me, Ed: Is it Chaz: You've been you've been ghosting me so hard. I should put a screenshot as the cover art for this thing of my messages with Eddie and it's just no reply from Eddie. Leave me on scene, but that's alright, 'cause you've been travelling the Ed: Well, we in my Chaz: world. Big nomad guy. Ed: In my defense, we have been in we we have been at very tricky time zones to link up, you know. But Chaz: Yeah. No, I ha and I can't really keep track with where you've been either. Ed: anyway, no excuses, it's not acceptable, but we have made it and yeah, I think this is episode four or five. But when I was on my travels I actually met some fans of the podcast, so We have to do a quick shout out to T J and the R and D department at specialized in the States. yeah, I met him in Andorra and he Chaz: Yeah. Ed: said he loved our work, which w to be honest was quite surprising, but I'll take I'll take that. Chaz: Yeah. He's probably well there's one other one I've met Fraser. Shout out to Fraser Greve from next door. He's also a fan. so yeah, there's Ed: Yeah. Yeah, nice. Chaz: two two people that like it. And obviously your lovely girlfriend also likes it, Ed: Cam Plymouth as well. Chaz: Eddie. So that's good. But she kinda has to, she's paid Ed: Yeah. Chaz: to w to like it. Well, not paid, but you know. Right Don't worry. Ed: Yeah. But anyway, it's nice to get that positive feedback around the world from two separate fans. so yeah, we're really kicking some goals. Chaz: We you could say that we're actually going going global, Eddie. Ed: Yeah, we haven't gone viral, but we have gone global. Chaz: We don't want to go viral though. That's that's sort of it's like a Gen Z goal. Us what are we? What are are we Y's or X's chromosomes? Ed: Yeah. We're no we're we're not even millennials, I don't think. Chaz: We're too old for that. Ed: Yeah. wait, I'll look this up. What is nineteen eighty nine? what what would you call it? Called. that a year. Chaz: I'm a millenni I'm a millennial. Ed: we're Gen X. no. yeah, millennial. Chaz: This is it where the Ed: I'm a millennial. Chaz: I'm the final year of millennial and then after me goes to Gen Z, which is nine ninety seven. And honestly there's such a huge difference that one year you meet people from that generation Z Ed: Ha ha ha Chaz: and they're just useless, Well no, writer X is useless. Ed: Yeah. Yeah. Maybe I was born in the wrong era. I'm more of a with how I've been ghosting you, that's more Gen Z behaviour. Yeah. how you been anyway, mate? Chaz: How you've been acting. Certainly is. what are we gonna talk about here? Cause okay, fine, we'll just catch up then. I've actually been really good recently, but since we must have done the last pod just after Stuart Island, I think, Just when you were leaving. Yeah. Ed: Yeah, we did. Get your writers out. Chaz: Get your runners out. So after that I got a bit sick, and I thought picked up something dodgy from the water, and then I went and had to to do a number two into a cup. give it to the doctor, but it's real it's real hard, Cause you like how would you go about dropping a log into like something where the this the diameter of the opening is about your fingers like put together? Like your th if you put your thumb and index finger together, there's a hot makes a hole. That is about the size of the opening that you're trying to drop a log into. And like there's no way my aim's that good. Cause half the time it's bloody hitting it's leading marks on the side of the toilet. So there's definitely Yeah, so it's quite it was quite stressful. But managed to managed to get it in, no mess. Was pretty proud of that and then took it into the doctor, dropped it off and it came back all clear. So that just turns out I was being a pussy. so then Ed: See what I would have done Chaz: Yeah. Ed: what I would have done is I would have maybe put a plastic bag inside the toilet bowl, shed into the bag, and then scooped it. Chaz: Then you got this bag to deal with. Ed: Yeah, but it's like that's I mean, if you have a dog and you you that's you know, it's easy. It's already in the bag. Chaz: True. True. Yeah, well I've got Nala's doggy bags, but then I guess I'd use up one of those. Ed: Nah, just a plastic bag. You just wrap it around the room. I haven't actually done it, but that's w how I would do it. Yeah Yeah yeah. Yeah, that's what Ryder X would do. Chaz: Theoretically, That's what Ryder X would do. Well, he has a request for more Ryder X stories. But no, so I thought I was sick, and then I did actually get a flu, and then I got a wisdom tooth issue. this is what we're talking about, the dentist. He's a huge fan of you actually. he Ed: Mm. Chaz: he watches all your stuff and he's now a fan of me. I've managed to get him on board the Chaz train. and he actually gave Ed: Bit of a discount? Chaz: me gave me a little discount, little cheeky discount for the wisdom tooth, Ed: I see. Chaz: which was really nice. So if anyone in Christchurch needs a dental a wisdom tooth, go to Wisdom Dental, sort of in Fenleton area, and go see well there's a couple couple of lads in there, they're great. Lester was giving me a few questions about the mountain biking and he's actually yeah, just he's off for a riding trip I think in In Europe somewhere. so I gave him a bit of info in my favourite place. Where would you send her many? I think Mellini is always good a good place Ed: it Chaz: or Canise. Ed: Yeah, two very good options. Two must hit destinations. I kind of feel bad telling everyone to go to Mellini though, because I you don't want to like ruin what makes it so good. But I mean the secret's out. Chaz: Yeah, but do you think us telling a few we get to go there ruins it? We're not really proper influencers. Just sort of Ed: No no no but just like it's it's you don't want to blow it you know, you don't want to blow the spot spot out, man. but for anyone Chaz: Yeah. But there's no chilift I reckon, so kinda helps. Ed: for anyone listening to this, definitely go to Millennium. Canada's Chaz: And if you do go see Albi. Ed: Yeah, from Millennium TV. Make sure Chaz: Yeah. Ed: you use Millennium T V and only Millennium T V for your shuttle company. Otherwise huge trouble. Chaz: Well did you hear what happened with Malini with Melini? What happened with me? I got called out? Do you remember that? I put up a follow cam of me following Sven and I did a clickbait title which is like Sven Martin shreds his local trail that he owns or something like taking the piss 'cause Sven always says that he owns the trails. and then I got hit up. it all blew up and there was these guys messaging me saying, Bro, you've got to take that down, that's not cool, like all these volunteers put all this hard work into that trail and you're claiming that it's fens and all this stuff. I'm sorry, like respect for the travelers. That was just a joke that was interpreted wrong. So yeah. Sorry guys. Apologies again. I Ed: Yeah. Chaz: ac I actually rang up and gave a formal apology about that. as you should. Yep. But Ed: that's good of you. Chaz: but sorry, we we we digress, we digress. Eddie I've been really well since my wisdom tooth held up. I'm fighting fit and been skiing a bit. But what about you, mate? You're the international man of mystery. And you've got a fixed collarbone. I was expecting you to be in a sling. Ed: You're very mysterious. Yeah. Well I may as well I may as well you walk you through my trip I went on because it was I was I was having a bloody good time and then I had a it was a roller coaster. We'd got a plane coming in to land here, but excuse that. so I flew over and the the first mess up was that I'd booked in a couple of days to go and spend some time with my brother and nephew. And I f so I flew to the UK but I foolishly in my retirement forgot that my older brother goes to all the World Cups and so when there's a World Cup on, probably not the best weekend to fly to his house in England. so I flew to London and then just qu turned around and got a plane to to Munich and then got a ride to Leo Gang 'cause they were in Leo Gang. And went there and watched Chaz: So he wasn't Ed: the World Cup, which was ex Yeah, so he was him and his family were in Leogang. So went and watched the World Cup. It sounded like it was pretty miserable until I got there. and I was pretty happy about that 'cause it was like piercing with rain and then the one day I was there it was like sunny as and all good. Chaz: What's up with those valleys, Those Leogang valleys just h they always rain. There's some localized rain going Ed: Yeah. and Chaz: on. Ed: Yeah, I did not feel I didn't have any FOMO of the Enduro guys out practicing all day in the rain. I was like that is especially that Salback liaison. It's like if anyone who doesn't know Chaz: We always do that in the wet and it's horrible. Ed: Yeah, yeah, it's like an hour and a half each way across a mountain top. but yeah, watched the World Cup and that was cool. Caught up with Moya. and then Yeah. Chaz: You say Winnie? W Winnie Win? Ed: no, because I left on I left on Sunday. so I wasn't I was only there for a couple of days. but yeah, Winnie smashed it. House suck. That must be I mean, you must be a proud Winnie dad. The Incubator. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Chaz: Yeah, I'm a proud what do you call it? Who who drives the incubator? Eddie invented the incubator. He incubated me and then I incubated Winnie. and all three of us have now put their pay it forward, yeah. All three of Ed: Hm. It's a pay it forward incubation. Yeah. Chaz: us have sit on the top step of Enduro World Cup, so that's pretty cool stat, isn't it? The incubator obviously works. Ed: Yeah, that's real good. Yeah, and then after lagging I got a ride with P V from satellite coffee to Mausine because I was like I hadn't actually in truth, Eduardo Rider X fashion, I hadn't really organized anything. I was just like I'm just gonna show up and just wing it. so I figured I'd just go to Morzine and then I needed to get to the mountain of hell. So when I got to Morseine I linked up with our store and his mate Parpey and just rode in Morzine for a couple of days and then went to the mountain of hell with those boys. Chaz: Is it puppy, puppy or poppy? Ed: It's party. There's a there's a real good s Chaz: it's Papy. How d how do you get that nickname? Ed: it's I don't know if you could tell the whole story on the airwaves but Chaz: Water inks. Ed: yeah, yeah. It involves him being called party. Chaz: Can we have a PG version or we're just gonna scuff it and completely? Ed: No, we it's probably not my story to tell. but it's a really good story. Yeah. but then we went Chaz: Good cool, yep. Alright. Mm we'll get him on as a guest. We'll get Pappy on. Ed: Yeah, yeah, Puppy be real good value. He's crack up. But yeah, so me, Alex and Puppy went to the mountain of hell, which is a race I've been wanting to do for ages 'cause it looks like a real good time and it in fact was a real good time. Yeah, it's like a mass start that starts on the glacier, but the snow is relatively hard. so we turned up and did like you on Friday you get to do you can practice all you can practice the two race stages, like 'cause the qualifying lap is different to the race lap. Chaz: Mm-hmm. Ed: and then you can just like explore the bike park and the bike park's pretty sick. but we so we just did a lap of everything below the snow. for the race lap and then we rode the qualifying lap on Friday. And then and then on Saturday we had qualifying and thought it was I was like chilling until we got up the top and then you start seeing like how gnarly it is. Or just you're going off in groups of two hundred and these these guys who look like they're just gonna like detonate. Yeah. And I had like a mid pack start so I was right in the thick of it. and yeah, I was yeah, it was pretty scary. Chaz: very terrifying. So is the qualie is the quality also on the glacier or just the final? Ed: Just the finals on the glass here, but the quality, the start, you you go out the gate, you go go round a corner, and then you just bomb a gravel road for I don't know, so you're like hooking. and then you go into a big climb. And then yeah. So I was I was real nervous. I was like shitting my pants. so did the quality and then you kind of I just kinda like Started mid pack, almost crashed a couple of times getting crashed into. And then when once you started bombing the road, I just like hopped on the wheel with someone who was going kind of quick. Chaz: Just draft it. Ed: So then it l yeah, so at least they were like cutting through the pack. and then that guy just kinda he was going hard on the climb. So we actually I ended up getting in the lead within about like a minute and a half. And then I was kinda bummed because I was like, now we're not even like mass start racing. We're just right, like you're just out by yourself. Chaz: Just a time trial. It's boring, yeah. Ed: Yeah, yeah. but then I ended up like crashing, going across a snow patch, and then I was bombing down this you I don't know, it's cause it's about fifteen minutes long. I was getting kinda like a bit of arm pumps. I was going along this goat track, shaking my shaking my hand off, and Didn't realise the track actually like ducked left. So I had my hand off and then I like tried to do a like last minute correction and just washed the front and had a huge E. Chaz: On the gravel road. Ed: and then I hop well we're on like grasp at by this point. but then I hop on our bars are all twisted, twist those back, go to go again, and my rotor's like bent with like a 90 degree kind of Chaz: No Ed: Harry Potter so I couldn't get it. I couldn't get my wheel to spin and then I just forced it through. And so I had to finish the rest of the run with just a front brake. Chaz: 'Cause was it pushing the pads out so much that the brake wouldn't come on? Ed: Yeah, yeah, it was just pushing the pads. And like life it got Chaz: Ha. Ed: easier and easier, so but it I yeah, so I had to do the rest of the run with just the front brake. ended up getting caught. Chaz: now you know how I feel in in Chile. It's so sketchy. Ed: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was I was cracking up. Yeah. Chaz: Sorry, so y you got caught by her? Ed: so I just got I got caught by three or four people. and it meant I so they they seed you for the final based on your time. It's quite good, not based on your position. Chaz: Mm-hmm. Ed: but even with my with a couple of crashes, I was still like on row six starting on the glacier. which is like it's probably ten people to a row, so you're like sixtieth. and then yeah. Chaz: Mm. Well that's right in the thick of it. That's quite fun. Ed: Yeah, yeah, it was good. Chaz: Like front in the front, but still everyone's like a decent rider. You don't want to be on row one, 'cause then if you're Ed: Yeah. Well yeah, yeah. 'Cause Chaz: row one, if you get a whole shot, then you don't never see anyone again. Ed: Yeah. and they kind of they do it like an arrow. So the fastest qualifier is on his own row. It's quite sick. so the fastest qualified essentially does get a whole shot. But it's all yeah, damn damanton. Chaz: Was that Damin Daminoton? Damien Otton? Damiton? Ed: it's it's all I mean the snow's a beast in itself, like I we hadn't we didn't really practice the glaciers, so we didn't really know what to expect, but just from watching GoPros and stuff, I knew off the start there was a bit of a corner before you started before you were able to like really let it go. Chaz: Yeah. Ed: and me and Puppy were on the same row. And so off the start we like go, and I was just being kinda like a bit tentative, not letting it like rip because I knew there was this corner coming up, and Chaz: Yeah. Ed: Puppy was saying that Puppy was saying that as we were getting to the corner, he saw me like getting hard on the anchors and he just thought to himself, What a pussy And literally as he's thinking that he's just like trying to get s on the brakes and there's a big snowbank and l like probably a hundred riders just hit the snowbank and go over the bars. like it's chaos. Chaz: Is it like a ninety degree left right right hander or something? Ed: It's probably like a sixty d sixty degree corner, but y you just can't slow down. So if you've missed Chaz: Yeah. On snow y you can't turn, Ed: nah. And people are just so G'd up that it's like, you know, in the moment, Chaz: True. well you're playing it quite smart, idiots. Maybe something about your wisdom. Yeah. Ed: Yeah. Yeah, I know, you know. Al Alex had this GoPro 'cause he was in the thick of it. He's like crashed he crashes as well. Gets on his bike. And s this guy's like sliding next to him while he's on his bike. The guy's this guy sliding Chaz: Same speed. Ed: next to him without a bike, like he would have been so far Chaz: Ha ha ha Ed: He would have been so far away from his bike. but yeah, so I got going and then Even even taking it quite easy, I still hit my top speed was ninety nine point seven Ks an hour. Chaz: Told me this, yeah. Bugger. Ed: Yeah, yeah. And I was s I was real bummed 'cause I wanted to hit a hundred. But Chaz: Hundred on snow on a bike is pretty low, say. Ed: Yeah, but it doesn't it doesn't feel you don't have trees and stuff. It didn't feel crazy. Like obviously it was scary. Chaz: There's no perception at it. Yeah. Ed: Yeah. I just kinda like came over the brow and then forced forced myself to do a death grip for this whole straight to see h like that's where you like go real fast. but you could just come over the brow without breaking and then you'd probably do one twenty. Yeah. But in Chaz: my god. What did David Otton do? Ed: s I think they d they were doing like hundred and ten, hundred and fifteen. But there were there was like in hindsight they could start the race earlier to keep because it was there were a few little soft spot landmines. So so like Chaz: Yeah. Ed: people were next to you going a hundred and they just go over the bars. And it's like Chaz: Really. Ed: Yeah, it's like I'm lucky. and then as you Chaz: So you're just leaning back. Ed: get lower Yeah, yeah, I was like You kind of do this weird like I don't know, you just like there's so much weight on the back wheel, no weight on the front, and then you just Chaz: It's like a manual, but Ed: Yeah. And on my GoPro I'm just going, ooh Yeah. Doing this Chaz: that's so good. Ed: weird scared this weird scared sound. And then as you get as you get further down it gets a bit softer and that's why they could start it a bit earlier 'cause There's a real knack to finding a route through like where it's hard. Chaz: Mm. Ed: I got a bit h I got a bit honey dicked into following someone and then we went into a soft bit, so I had to like hop off and run for a bit. But yeah. The smoke like would Chaz: Yeah. Did you crash on the on the race run? Ed: nah, but Chaz: Tell us. Ed: lower down lower down I like I'd when we practiced it, we d we missed What we the track we practised is the track I raced, but that wasn't actually the race track. So yeah, yeah. So Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Chaz: Fuck classic classic you're so gin Z man holy shit Ed: So I went for a lap I went for a lap, which is like the B line of this jump track and I thought that was the race track, but that's the B line and the A line just like kind of bombs it straight down this like steep one, which they call like mini champerie or it's like a steep one. so the route the track that I rode takes two minutes longer. but but Chaz: that wouldn't that wouldn't help you in a in a to in a race against the clock, would it well I guess it's not even against the clock. But it's not gonna help you in a race. Ed: Nah. but it was like for anyone who's planning a Euro trip, I'll definitely put that race on the on the hit list because it was sick. I definitely want to go back and especially 'cause you can ski during the week. Well I mean you can ski during the in the mornings and ride in the Yavo because of the glacier. Chaz: So Ed: so Yeah, yeah. And then the the park Chaz: Is that we that's Ed: and stuff looks good. Like Oscar Oscar Mandan was there, just ripping the park and Roger was doing the e bike race. Chaz: I'll say. Ed: so yeah. Yeah, it'd be cool Chaz: Yeah. Ed: to you could spend a week there and have a mean riding and skiing and summer holiday all in one. Chaz: That sounds like a bit of me actually. Ed: Yeah. Chaz: Is that the is that the video of you with your head cut open? Skiing on the glacier? Or is that a different place? Ed: Yep. No, that was there. Yeah. Chaz: That's there. What's it called? Mountain of Hell. Or laid it out. Ed: Yeah, it's called the Mountain of Hell the the Mountain's called Ledger's Alp, but the race Chaz: Later. Right. Ed: is called Mountain of Hell. Yeah. Yeah, and it's real cheap too, like cheap accommodation and stuff. So yeah, definitely put it on the list, for sure. Chaz: Main. coming missing France recently, It was pretty fun over there. Ed: Yeah, I was 'cause I wasn't you know, like I wasn't in a rush to get back to Europe. I was spending a lot of time there. Chaz: Yeah. Ed: but just going for like a month was awesome. I was frothing Chaz: Yeah. Ed: it, like just on a sick little riding trip, riding every day, but not really with like an agenda or anything. So it was yeah. I was a big fan of the program. Until Chaz: Yeah. Yeah, I I like that, Ed: d until disaster struck. Chaz: Yeah. So was that that was the next week you w had that incident. With the man man made feature. Eddie in Man Made Features, Ed: Yeah, yeah, had the incident. So then Chaz: you're not really a fan. Ed: Nah, nah. so yeah, the next weekend we were going to the Genova street race, Red Bull Sierra Bajo, in Genova, which is like a port town in Italy, it's like north of north of Finale. so we went and rode in Finale for a day, which was cool. Did a shuttle Chaz: No north or it's east of finale, isn't it? Or n or north. I don't know. Ed: yeah, sorry. Yeah. Up the coast. East. Never eat. Yeah. Never eat sorry w weight backs. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Chaz: Towards Eastern Europe. Towards Florence. and that's when you catch the ferry de Korska. Genova, I'm pretty sure. Yeah. Ed: Yeah, it would be. Yeah. Chaz: that fuck, it looked epic. Apart from the the crash. How many laps how many laps in was that? Ed: Yeah, it was actually that was on the second day. So first day we did vi five laps. There's only a couple of features that were kind of like I was just like, I'm just gonna follow someone into these like shark fin step downs because I've never hit a shark fin step down that's made out of wood. so like once you y those two those two shark fin step downs were like a little bit you're just like, I'll just follow someone so that you know the speed and stuff. But apart from that, the track was actually real sick just to ride. Like you were defin anytime they they if if they were adding more if they were letting you go up for more runs, you would. Like you it wasn't like, I don't wanna Chaz: Yeah. You're just having fun. Ed: ride this. Yeah, yeah, you're just having fun Chaz: Yeah. Ed: and you're hooking. Like doing like seventy Ks an hour, but it's all relatively straight. So you just pump Chaz: my god. Ed: your trail Yeah, you just pump your trail bike up and you're just like bombing down these stairs. It's not crazy steep either. So it was it was pretty sick. Yeah. Nah, there's like Chaz: Holy shit. This is quite fun, You don't have to be on the brakes too much. And who was there? Who was the sorry, go ahead. Ed: who was there? There was like me, Brooke, Roger, I mean heaps of like South American street races. Chaz: Yeah. Ed: Blinky there's like a big crew, Alex Store and stuff. But it was pretty yeah, it was mean. I was Chaz: Sorry. Ed: as soon as you like what you one lap in, you're pretty comfortable and it was like meant. But then there is a real knack there's like riding it and racing it, which are kind of two different things because you've you've got to be real dialed with your like lines, but the the lines are just like turning in at the right time 'cause you're going so fast but there's 'cause there's walls and stuff. You've Chaz: Yeah. Ed: got to really nail your like turn in points to be closest to like the apex, but the apex is also a wall. 'Cause you're you're riding like between buildings. so if you're Chaz: so the more you lane, the closer you get to the wall too. So you're like Ed: Yeah, so like if you if you're like a metre or two meters late on your turn in point or like you know, like setting up wide, cutting in, apexing Chaz: Yeah. Ed: the corner and then going out to the other wall, then it like messes up the whole section 'cause you've like lost and you Chaz: Yeah. Ed: lose you actually lose heaps of time. Chaz: It's the exit speed, yeah. Ed: Yeah, yeah, or just like carrying that Chaz: Crazy. So it's like Formula One. Ed: high speed the whole way through. Yeah, pretty well, Chaz: Mm. Ed: like yeah, yeah. It's yeah, and then even on the road, like you'll be doing a road sprint and you have to turn off the road, but nailing the line, you know, there's you've got so much space, but there's you know, the the difference between having a good Chaz: There is a fastest line still, yeah. Ed: line and Yeah, yeah. but so you can see Chaz: Well, the more space, the more lines. Basically right. You know, like on a single track, you're just following the single track and you might get like Ed: Yeah. Or just like Yeah, N Chaz: a foot a foot off the main line. Whereas here we're we're talking met like me there goes the Wi Fi. Talking about going metres off line. Ed: And even with with how wide it is, if you if you nail the apexes, by the time you go top to bottom you can actually make the course pretty significantly shorter because Chaz: Yeah. Ed: it's so wide. Chaz: Sorry, I've just got a table issue here, hold on. Yeah, I'm back. that's that's crazy, That sounds like fun. I wanna do it. I haven't done one since Columbia. Robbie King. Yeah, and there was like armed guards with machine guns standing at the entry and the Ed: yeah, we did the one in Benizale's. Yeah, that was sick. Yeah. Chaz: exit to the course. Ed: Yeah, well this one's like they're it I don't know what the numbers are, but I think they have about forty thousand people watching on race day. 'Cause it's right in the city. Chaz: Mm. Ed: and yeah, they they really get behind it. yeah, so it was sick. But yeah, so on the second day there was this shitty it's pretty shittily built, this little corner. which is like an almost one hundred eighty degrees like wooden turn. but you can inside it just on the flat. Chaz: Yeah. Ed: and then you drop into like a alleyway. so I've just been inside it on the flat and then Roger told me he was like, I think I've timed it. I think it's in comparison it's faster to hit the wood. Chaz: Yeah. Ed: so I was like, sweet, I'll go hit the wood. and I thought you'd hit the wood like you know when you see the Bemexes on their on the in the streets and they like bunny hop into a curved wall ride. And they Yeah. Chaz: Yeah. And they're like they use the pressure of hitting it to like hold it. Ed: Yeah, so I thought that you'd like come in, bunny hop into the wood and then rail around it. but I couldn't have been more wrong. Because Chaz: Yeah. Ed: I bunny hopped in and straight away the like the corner's so tight that my front wheel just went over the top. And then I lit I literally just dived with my collarbone into the wood. Yeah, Chaz: Yeah, I saw it. It was brutal. Ed: it was I was almost like not gonna share the video because I was like it's more embarrassing, but it's kinda funny at the same time. Chaz: Yeah. Ed: And then in hindsight, Roger was saying that you actually kinda just just put your front wheel on it. Like you need to push Chaz: Awesome. Ed: you kinda push off it. Like the back wheel goes on a little bit, but like you're pushing on and pulling around. 'Cause it Chaz: I'll be scared of going under it. Or you can't go under it. right. Okay. Cause Ed: Yeah, yeah. No, you can't go under it. No. Chaz: that's what I thought happened to you when first saw your video. I thought maybe like your rear wheel had got stuck between the pavement and the bottom. But then I looked closely and it Ed: Yeah. Chaz: was actually your top wheel, but you just stopped and then went straight into it. Ed: Yeah. so yeah, I smoked myself literally literal spear tackle onto this wood. knew it broke my collarbone straight away. It was just like Yeah, there was no there's no way it wasn't gonna break. Yeah. And then it's real annoying 'cause obviously it's a street race, so they sh shuttle the streets, so it's real hard to get an ambulance or something or get even Chaz: true. Ed: Yeah, and I was like, it's one of those things, you know, like I wanted I was happy to roll down the street, roll down the roads on my bike, but they would like wouldn't let me have my bike and then it was just like these these Italian like there's heaps of Red Bull girls and they're like, You want a Red Bull? And I was like, Nah I was like, I'm all good on the Red Bull, I'm just keen to get out of here. But so they had to shut the course and then they get an ambulance and came and got me, took me to hospital. Obviously had an x ray, cobh was broken. Chaz: Well didn't you knew it straight away? I'm pretty sure you got up from the crash and you're like, I've broken my collarbone. Someone was telling me Ed: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. There was Chaz: that. Maybe it's maybe it was on the on the vlog or something. Ed: I I've had it on my vlog 'cause I like, broken my collar line 'cause I just pressed it and it was moving. Chaz: Yeah. Yeah, you know, you know. Ed: Yeah. So went to went to hospital, had a had x rays and stuff, and then they were like I mean Jenova's Jenova's a port town, there's quite a lot going on at the hospital there. There's some definitely some colourful characters. Chaz: Really. Ed: yeah, so it wasn't really a hospital that I would be keen to have surgery at. so Yeah, so so I was like, I'll just I'll figure this out. so went back and watched finals and then started trying to figure out how to get a like the Red Bull guys from Italy were helping try and find a surgeon and then I was going to Latwell for the next weekend, which is pretty close to Geneva, so I was like, I'll let's look let's look around Switzerland and stuff for a surgeon. Chaz: Yeah. 'Cause you trust the Swiss. I mean they make good watches, Ed: And yeah, yeah. Chaz: so they should be able to fix up a collarbone. A couple of power tools. Ed: Hmm. So then I put a I put a little story up on my Insta and a few people from who had had surgery in Geneva came back with a few surgeons, so I just sent out an email to like w found out where their practices were and got their email address and sent out and then a guy came up on came forward and was like on Tuesday morning when I was in where were we call me he's like if you can get here if you can get here this afternoon I'll see you and I can do it the following day. Chaz: no, we've lost them. Ed: Have you lost me? Chaz: No, you're back, you're back. Keep going, you're good. So so you're in Kuma, yeah, and someone had a surgeon a surgeon in Geneva was keen. Ed: Yeah. And he said, if you can get here to see me this afternoon, I'll do the surgery on Wednesday morning. and I was like Chaz: That would have been a bit of a scram away. Ed: Yeah, so I just got straight on a bus to Geneva, went and saw the surgeon, he was the man. he's like, Yeah, sweet, all good. And then I had to go through the rigmarole of like getting it approved by my insurance. and they they weren't that keen to start with 'cause obviously being Swiss it's super expensive. but I was like, like this guy can do it at short short notice. So I was like, Cool. went back and stayed with Sean that night with the surgery booked in for Wednesday morning. Chaz: What insurance were you running out of interest? Ed: I was running SVL. yeah. Heiko, yeah. So Chaz: nice. He he helico. He's a good good bugger. Haiko, yeah. Ed: it was a little bit of back and forth because the as I continue the story. so I went back and stayed with Sean that night and then the next day that morning I I got the bus back to Geneva. so I'm just busing around everywhere. and I get off of the bus station in Geneva. walking to the hospital to have surgery and SVL come back to me and say, like we we're not gonna cover the surgery 'cause it's too much. we want you to go to Annecy. and I'm like, this is an hour before the surgery is booked in and they'd Yeah. So I was like, What? Pretty often. so I had to cancel the surgery and then get on a bus to Annecy and then about an hour and and then about an hour into that bus ride, SVL came back and they were like, we've run a run around all the hospitals. no one can do it at short notice. So you should have the surgery in Geneva. And I'm like, I've just cancelled the surgery 'cause like this guy's doing me a massive solid, like fitting me in. Like I'm not Chaz: Yeah. Ed: gonna I'm not just gonna leave him on especially with how much it costs. Like I don't want to be liable Chaz: Yeah, yeah. Ed: for any of this. So then I had to ring the surgeon back. I was like, they are gonna do it now. And then he booked me in for Friday, so it was like and then I went back to then I got the bus back to Chaz: Cherite. Ed: Chamony, hung out with Sean and then had the surgery on Friday. so it was a Yeah. But it was a mess and it Yeah, it was real cool to hang out with Sean. Chaz: And then it was all it all went well. I would have been nice to see Sean as well. That's the sil that's the silver lining. He would have been stoked. I think he's missing not having Ed: And Chaz: us out there, Ed: yeah, yeah, no, it was real cool to hang out with them. and man it was pretty funny being like obviously I'm in like a private clinic in Geneva. it's like staying in like a four star hotel. Like alright, it was yeah, it was pretty funny. And then Chaz: Mr Mr. Masters, can we get you anything? Ed: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like the menu the menu was pretty good. you get a Chaz: Yeah. Ed: nice robe and stuff, they make you yeah, make you comfortable. Yeah. Yeah. So by the time Chaz: It's like a little holiday, like a vacation. Do you stay the night? Ed: yeah, stayed the night and then I just it was quite funny, I was like to the nurse, I was like, I'm gonna let 'cause I I was Sean was gonna watch the World Cup in La Twille from Chamony. So Chaz: Mm. Ed: I sta I I had to stay the night but I was like I I'll get the six AM bus back to Chemoni and then it Chaz: Mm-hmm. Ed: was real funny telling the nurses that I was gonna leave. They were like They're like, Where where are you going? And I was like I'm going back to Chemony and then they were real worried that I needed someone to carry my bags and I was like, I've walked here with my bags with a broken collarbone, now it's fixed. I'm like, good but I just I just needed them Chaz: Ha ha ha Ed: to let me out of the hospital and they were real confused. about why I wanted to leave. Chaz: it's so good. Ed: But yeah, we got out and then made it back to Sham for the to meet the boys at eight. Went and watched the World Cup on on Saturday. So it was a bit of a it was a whirlwind of a week. yeah. But Chaz: Yeah, holy shit. And then once it they once they're plated up, they heal real quick, Like in a few days you can do most shit. Ed: Yeah, like my surgeon said to like use a sling kind of like light duties for two weeks. So I did that. But after about ten days it felt I can see how people would return to like whatever they need to do. Yeah. Chaz: Tour de France or whatever. Yeah. Ed: 'Cause yeah, like I I was doing a bit I like Did a little bit of riding in Whistler last week, which is a month post surgery. just because I was like, well, if someone can ride if someone can race motocross after a week, I can I can ride A line. Chaz: Yeah. so you some A line lats. It's felt all good. Ed: Yeah, it felt all good like Chaz: You won't want to crash though, Ed: Nah, it was quite funny though, like I I did the A line race, but I'd 'cause I'd entered some stuff for crankworks, I was keen to like at least do something. But I wasn't racing, I was just and then I just built my download bike and I snapped the chain out of the start, gate, 'cause I'd done a dodgy join. I'd done a dodgy join on the and this is the first day Chaz: On the quick like Ed: this is the first day riding back. And it's raining. So but I I just I n I like needed to get yeah. so I snap the snap the chain and then I was like, I'll just follow the guy down in front of me, who was going next. and I'm following him and 'cause it's raining the berms on A line are like super glazed. And I just w Chaz: I yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Ed: Yeah, and I like washed out and I was so off a day. Chaz: Mm-hmm. Ed: I was so grumpy. But it was all good. It was all good. Chaz: Yeah, and you just feel like you feel like you're gonna eddy a day. Ed: Yeah, I was like, you're so dumb. And then 'cause it was raining and I'm s I was staying in Creekside, I had to like take the lift all the way up to the top. Sitting in the rain in the Chaz: in the freezing cold. Ed: cold. Yeah. And then go down. But but other than that, I just rode like maybe three days in Whistler and then did a little bit of went and filmed some downhill and stuff. Made s made good use of the time. Chaz: Yeah, it looked like a good trip and you had a wedding and stuff as well. I actually talked I talked to Kerry yesterday. Yeah. Just planning Ed: Yeah, yeah. Winter and wedding. nice. Chaz: a few a few surprises for the for the big the big event in August. Ed: yeah, I can't wait. Chaz: Yeah. We've actually got we've actually got some fresh skis for you, Eddie. Ed: Yeah. Throwing shit up. Let's go. Chaz: Shout out to shout out to Noah from Atomic and well Ed: Yeah, sure that now. Chaz: and Wheezy D actually. Craig is pretty much making it happen. And then I just got everything together and took them to the ski shop and got them set up for you. I told them that there's Ed: Hey mate. Much appreciated. Big love. Chaz: a an extra, extra triple black diamond skier with Ed: Okay. Chaz: a whole lot of skills and a massive bag of tricks. Ed: shit. Chaz: who needs a set of skis and his foot size is about a ten. Ed: Yep, that's me. Chaz: So they should be I think we should be pretty good. Ed: Well, it'll be you'll be happy to hear that I've got my avalanche course on Friday. Chaz: yeah. That is good news. me and Car have actually Ed: Yeah. So we'll be playing by the rules. Chaz: me and Kara have actually been scheming. and I'm not gonna give you the the touring setup until you have your own transceiver. That's the rule. Ed: Well I've got a I was gonna go buy one maybe tomorrow. 'cause you can get a cafe. Chaz: Yeah, I it's pretty it's probably worth just getting the kit 'cause it all comes together Ed: Yeah. Chaz: but the transceiver is something that everyone should have their own of and then you know, the kit you can always borrow off people but Ed: The kit the kit's got like the shovel, the probe and the transceiver, is that what it is? Yeah. But Chaz: Yeah. That's what you need to conduct a search and then you need to know how to use it. Yeah. Ed: Yeah. no, I was just gonna go buy one 'cause there's no point in I I I need I actually want one. I don't want to just no. Yeah. Chaz: Well there's no point half asking it. If you don't do it just go and just go and do it all. Yeah. Ed: And it's I mean, it makes sense to have one. Chaz: Yeah, well it's super important, like we were up at Temple on the weekend and we went across the avalanche path that was had already ripped out. And there was probably like four meters of rubble there. Like four meters deep and probably like ten meters wide. Maybe fifteen meters wide. And it was like concrete. Like if you were buried in that you'd just be dead. so it's pr like and that's just a temple, just right off the lift. So You don't really like you can't mess around with it, It happens way Ed: No. Chaz: more often than you think. Ed: yeah, we went and visit visited our old housemate Ollie and Revy. Went for a hike and he was like pointing out where they go touring and stuff. And then you can just see these massive patches of trees that are missing from where the avalanches just like bowl. Chaz: Yeah. Ed: But they this is like they're not just little trees. Like Yeah. Chaz: Yeah. Well yeah, it's like full grown trees that are, you know, fifty meters tall and they look like candlesticks. Like twigs. Or matchsticks. Ed: Yeah, and then there's there's just these huge patches of Yeah, huge patches of trees missing and I like, Whoa, okay. Yeah, and then Sam Robbie was saying that you just hear the avalanches just popping off like in the Chaz: Yeah. Ed: valley. Yeah. Chaz: Yeah, crazy. Nice. what else is happening? What else do we need to catch up on? The Ed: what did I I had a few little notes of like Chaz: Yeah, I've been making some notes too. Ed: where are we? Chaz: I've actually been I've been riding again, Iddy, which is pretty crazy. Riding the right yeah, riding the Ed: MTB. Or I was like Chaz: riding the e bike. Ed: I was like, did you say writing or writing? Like I didn't know he's working on his next book. Chaz: Yeah. T B. here we go. I've got a screenshot here. What do we got? Is my make Eddie tell the top ten Ryder X stories. Him losing it over Ed: Yeah. Chaz: organ harvesters had me rolling. And Ed: Ha ha Chaz: I've got someone from Javan Dal, sixty three. from Ryder X I mean. Is is Mark Scott a n a naughty boy? Ed: Yeah, Mark's D Mark Scott's a really naughty boy. Now he's pretty he's not Chaz: What the Ed: so naughty now he works for actually he was never really that naughty. No he now he's the Warner Yeah, he's the Warner Brothers Chaz: No. Compared to compared to compared to Ryder X. Compared to Ryder X. Ed: he's the Warner Brothers guy. Chaz: and actually Kip Nicholson has a complaint to make about about Eddie spitting splitting the G. He doesn't split Ed: no, I'm not even gonna take I'm not gonna Chaz: the G. He just dips his top lip in and samples a tiny bit like hot soup. Catfish. Ed: nah. Chaz: This is a loose one too. Sorry, do you want to rebuttal to Kip? You've got you've got one minute to make your rebuttal. Ed: I'm not even gonna waste my breath rebutting to cap. We all know who the catfish is here, mate. Yeah. Okay. Move on. Old news though. Chaz: All right. Has anyone has anyone got lucky in or on Mr Ed's tricycle? Moto tricycle? There's only one person was well, but there's probably Ed: No. Chaz: a few people that know the answer to this, but I'm not one of them. Ed: no, it's never No. N well not that I'm aware of. we'll have to run it past the missile. Chaz: Yeah, there's there's a bit of a quest from from the fans. Ed: Yeah. Chaz: what have you got in your notes, City? Ed: sorry, pet peeves. Paying for linen Airbnbs. Look like suck me off, man. Chaz: Yeah, well you've done all the effort it just should be a law that it's just included. Who who's travelling Ed: You like turn up. It's Chaz: around with pillowcases, flat sheets, duvet covers? who? No one. Yeah, you're Ed: Yeah. It's holiday accommodation. It's not Chaz: on holiday. You're leaving your your problems at home. That's why you don't have them with you. Ed: Yeah. Imagine flying from New Zealand to go to the mountain of Hell and you've got your duva, your pillows, everything. And they charge you so much. And then Chaz: So it's not that cheap there. You're saying it was cheap? Ed: Well, we obviously didn't pay for the linen, but we still sleep there using the 'cause it's like all good. You just some I'll sometimes I'll flip the mattress and then you just flip it back over. But if they wanna like those they're stitching themselves up by not supplying linen 'cause no one's gonna pay for the linen, then they're just gonna sleep on the mattress without a sheet. Chaz: Is that what you run? You just run the duvet. Ed: Yeah. NFL O, without a Pillow case. Chaz: And then Eddie just drags the mattress into the living room anyway, because he wants to sleep in a weird location. Ed: Well, this apartment in question actually had a triple set of bunks and the third the highest bunk was like you'd need a forklift to to get you up there Chaz: Yeah. Ed: and then you'd like roll off. so there was actually a mattress jagged dragged into the lounge. Chaz: I'm not surprised. My first time staying with you, you joined the mattress in the living room, and then we proceeded to have the after party for the race at our at our hotel Ed: Yeah. Chaz: and people were just standing in and on your bed while they were at their party. And then Ryder X had the altercation with the waddle of wine, which have we covered that story? I think we might have. Last week. Ed: Yeah, yeah, we did. 'Cause remember I asked of Brooke if he'd been no, we 'cause Brooke's podcast never went through. Chaz: True. Ed: But I I asked if he'd been in a fight. That was how he got onto it. Yeah, and Brooke had been in a fight. He'd dust he'd Chaz: A procabbeat in a fight. He said, Ye you yeah, G. Ed: dusted some dude up. Yeah. Yeah. And I'd I Chaz: Yeah, but it was the other dude's fault though. Yeah. Ed: said I'd never been in a fight. I'd only been hit. But then we recanted that 'cause I had actually w one hit quit that guy. But I didn't knock him out. I just punched him in the he there's a long yeah. Yeah. Chaz: Yeah, but Yeah, just friendly but he he also literally asked for it. Ed: Yeah, he was warned multiple times not Chaz: Yeah. Ed: to drink the bottle of wine that I'd been saving for my dad and he drank it. And I said, If you drink that, I'm gonna punch you in the face and he drank it, so I just punched him in the face. Chaz: And then we and then we had to explain to him. I think he was Italian, was he? Was he British? He's English, yeah. Just as bad. Ed: No, he's English. Yeah, he's British. Yeah. Chaz: Well the Italians are lovely actually. Not no nothing no problems with the Italians, but Ed: Yeah. Chaz: So he drank the wine and then we you punched him and then we sat him down and we explained the situation and we said, Alright, you've got to drive to Molini, which how far is it from Finale? A couple hours, hour and a bit? Ed: Hour and a half? Yeah. Chaz: So we had to drive there, buy a ten Euro bottle of wine. Ed: Yeah yeah. Chaz: from the local the local the only restaurant in Mellini and then drive back, deliver it to Eddie with his tail between his legs. And then we flew home and what happened to the wine? Ed: Well, we had two bottles and one smash day. Chaz: What yeah, one smash in the bag. Ed: Yeah. but we got one home, so it was all good. yeah, yeah. Chaz: So Dad got one at the end. All right. Ed: but he was warned multiple times, so it was warranted. Chaz: I've got two good ones here, Eddie, sorry to cut you off. Ed: No, go hard. Chaz: w we'll we'll move away from, you know, people deserving to be hit. Ed: Yeah. Chaz: a fan or listener, I'm not not sure if they're a fan or not, but they're definitely listening. Please keep this up. or maybe they are fan. Maybe some topic for the next one. Did you both participate in developing the Endura rigs or any rigs from either Specialise or Pivot? And what would you rather have? in head tube, reach or angle adjust if you had to choose one adjustment. It's quite it's quite a c complex question, Eddie, but I guess you guys worked quite hard on the downhill bike, Ed: Yeah, we've that was the bike we probably did the most development with, was the Dunhill bike. which was cool to be involved in that process. But I think yeah, most of the I've we've never really like done any prototyping on the Enduro stuff. we normally it's they take care of that stuff in house and they're pretty good at it. But angle hit angle hit tube angle or reach. Well. Chaz: I I've I've had an interesting one with the head tube angle. So like the fork angle. what do you call that? F the rake of the fork, is is that? Ed: Hit angle? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Chaz: Head angle. Yeah. Yeah, which is the fork angle, because now the head now it's not actually the head tube angle because the head tube moves. But anyway, the off the f not the offset, the fork angle. Head head angle. Is Ed: Yeah. Chaz: f God, it's like I've never heard of a bicycle before. what's the standard angle? I wanna say like f Ed: No, it'd be like sixty three and a half, sixty four. Chaz: They're quite steep. Ed: Nah. For a heat angle. Chaz: Yeah. So Ed: Yeah. Chaz: anyway, so the the specialised bike it goes it's got a neutral position and then it's got plus one and a half degrees, minus one and a half degrees. And me and T P did back to back testing on our secret test track with their different angles and I could hardly notice the difference. In the car part you can notice it quite a bit and it would feel like okay, this is a bit more twitchy, this is a bit more stable, whatever. But then once you started riding fast, it almost felt exactly the same. I could do this go the same speed. I had basically the Ed: Mm. Chaz: same confidence. It felt a little bit when I went from the real steep one to the slack one, and skipped over the middle one, I could notice it and I was like, it feels a little bit more like you go over the bars if you hit something big. But then otherwise the bike cornered the same, felt pretty much exactly the same. And then so we did that, and w that was really interesting. And then I ended up just running on the middle one just because it was the middle one for no other Ed: Yeah, yeah. Chaz: reason. And then I did the BB height adjustment. So you do the flip chip and the BB either goes up or down. And I could notice straight away. Like I just really liked one setting and I really didn't like the other. And it was so obvious your body felt like in a completely different position. And that made such a bigger difference than the headset angle. which I found really interesting, because And then Thomas think about it and he's he reckons that well he was saying me, but I don't know if people in general are just more sensitive to something that changes your body, like the relation of your hands to your feet, or whatever. But if my body was in the exact same position, if it made a change of the bike, I wouldn't notice it as much. Ed: You're just changing where the front wheel was on the heat angle. Yeah. Chaz: Yeah. So so I would probably if I was to do that one thing I would either go for the I'd probably go for the B B height, honestly. And the chain stay adjusts like a short chain stay is pretty mint. But I still reckon I'd probably just go with the B B. 'Cause that makes the bike feel so much Ed: Yeah, we Chaz: more stable and nice. Well it can. Ed: I would run all my I run all my f firebirds in the high setting. Chaz: It's so large. Ed: it was more when we first got it I was like in the low setting, which I guess makes the head angles steep slacker too and the B B lower. I found I was like washing the front on like on flat turns. and then Chris the owner of Pivot was like if you put it in the high setting it'll you'll get more weight on the front wheel. and then straight away it's like kinda stopped happening. and then ever since then I've just run my fibers in the high setting. And I guess Chaz: That's quite good, I think that's what I was doing with my enduro too, 'cause it was just such a big bike. Just Ed: Yeah. Chaz: felt a bit more lively in the high. Ed: Yeah. but yeah. that was a good question actually. Good feat, yeah. Chaz: It was. we've got one other question. Ed: We've got four minutes till we hit our hour. Chaz: We've got four minutes. I wonder if we've got any more pit paves. Ed: I've got a pet peeve. Chaz: What do you got? Ed: Paying tax Chaz: Ha ha ha. Ed: Such Such a ball ache, man. like Can't they just know what you're doing and do it all for you? Like you know? Being a sole trader. Chaz: Yeah, there must be a bit of system A. It should just be like Yeah, it's such a Ed: Yeah, it's just like I mean I could I could do it a lot better. But I definitely make a lot of work for myself at the end of the financial year. And it's not Chaz: Yeah. Ed: heaps of work, but it's like you have to manually go through all your like spending and stuff. And I'm just like Can we just not do this? Chaz: Yeah, well there's this thing called Henry that is supposed to do it for you, or zero, but you still have to go through and code it all. Ed: Yeah. I Henry sounds good. but Chaz: Harry sounds good, but the the commission's kinda high. It's like isn't it like one one percent? Bless you. one percent of everything. Ed: Yeah. that's what it's maxed at fifteen hundred. So it can't Chaz: okay. Ed: go up yeah, so it doesn't keep going. Chaz: So if you're earning over one hundred and fifty K then you're all good. Ed: Yeah. It Chaz: Yeah. Ed: just they max out at one fifty. at fifteen hundred. Chaz: th that's actually other news, Eddie. is I almost signed up for a job the other day for engineering Ed: Oof. Chaz: job. Which was Yeah, Ed: Henry. Chaz: well that'd be that'd be exciting too. But the thing about working for someone else is that tax is pretty much sorted. And and ACC Ed: Yeah, I know. P A Y E. That's just Chaz: sorted and all the other bullshit that goes with running your own business. Ed: Yeah. Chaz: student loan, all that Kiwi Saver, it's all just sorted, it's great. Ed: Yeah, that's what I want them to do for Soul Traders. We just take it and sign up and you're like Chaz: Yeah, just happens, Ed: Hmm. Chaz: but yeah, I'm looking at an engineering job. So actually if anyone's listening is either an engineer, project manager, or some sort of Yeah, that's probably about it, really. Ed: Now leave don't don't shut yourself off there. You would be open to any good opportunity that came up, you know? Yeah. Chaz: True, actually. was thinking, yeah, banking would be good. Ed: Yeah. Chaz: not sure about accounting. We've just brushed over that, it's pretty dry. Ed: Yeah. Chaz: I wouldn't mind being like a stunt man or something. I reckon that would be quite good gig. Ed: Yeah. You only need the one you only need one gig to get it rolling too. Chaz: Thinking yeah, I'm thinking maybe an OnlyFans could be good. There might be a few prereqs for that though. But that's all right. Ed: Yeah. I don't know. People into some weird people are into some weird shit. Chaz: But anyway, so so yeah, I'm now on right now on the fence. So actually we're taking listeners' advice, please. We've got thirty seconds left on the count, the shot clock. advice on would I be happier going into the sort of like a part time twenty, thirty hours a week of sort of project management or engineering or should I commit to just getting into the content stuff doing not adult content, like sorry. sports content. with say YouTube, make a house building series, make a how to stopy series, just go and do a Ed: I'm I need to watch that. Chaz: go and do a bunch of things that I reckon would people would enjoy and actually watch, 'cause what I realised with my YouTube is I've picked the most niche market in the world. It's not only Ed: Yeah. Chaz: mountain biking, which is a inferior version of cycling. Well not inferior in terms of fun, but in terms of the coverage of the Tour de France and stuff, it's inferior. And then I've also picked Enduro, which is the most niche part of mountain biking. Ed: Yeah. Chaz: to do my content. So I'm thinking if I just do something like gym become a gym rat or maybe run a five K pe like s how many people can relate to a five K? Probably Out of people our age, Ed: Everyone. Chaz: like fifty percent of people our age probably could relate. Ed: Yeah, we'd know what their five K is. Chaz: And but with enduro mountain biking I can it's like in the single digits of percentiles. So those are the two options. Ed: Mm. Yep. Chaz: Go into a normal job, show up, work, work hard, obviously, very hard worker. Ed: Get your P A Y E sorted. Chaz: P A Y clock off, enjoy your weekends. Or do I go down the self employed route, get into some serious content, YouTube stuff, and be my own boss, but probably also have less diff definition between time on and time off. Ed: I've gotta say double down, but that's just my double down on the content. But it might take a little while to figure out what the niche is. It's not Chaz: Yeah. Ed: not necessarily a niche, but It might take a little while of trial and error to figure out the recipe of what works. Yeah, yeah. Chaz: Yeah, that's alright though. I've got I've got time. I can probably make it through to the end the year before the the funds dry up. It's Ed: Before it shuts down. Yeah. Yeah. Chaz: the house is not really helping, like that's obviously quite a big financial burden. so if anyone's listening who's a banker and wants to lend me some money as well, also looking to refix the mortgage. Yeah. Basically, I'm in my midlife crisis and I'm happy about it. Ed: Yeah, that sucked. How good. Yeah, yeah. You're in a you're at a Chaz: Not a crisis, it's a decision making. It's a rest and a reflection. Ed: you're at you're at a crossroads. Yeah. Chaz: Yeah. And to be honest, all the roads look pretty good from here. I must say I'm very startled not racing. Watching Ed: Yeah. Chaz: some of those races in Europe and like that those are sick trails, but kinda just want to go and ride them. I don't really want to go down there at Mac ten and, you know, gouge yourself open on a rock or something. Ed: Hmm. Well that's that's good to not have a Chaz: So I think I made the right call. Ed: not have a s serious case of FOMO. Chaz: Well there's so much other fun stuff. Like I've been skiing quite a bit the last couple of weeks and that's been so much fun. And there's just like it's infinite it's the time that's the problem. It's not that th I'm like got nothing to do. It's that I've don't have enough time to do it. Ed: well we'll have to see what people come out of the woodwork with these potential career options and I wonder if the mortgage guy comes out of this. Chaz: Yeah. We'll have to keep you updated. and if you're listening and we sent you the shirt, the dress shirt, can we get feedback on how it is? Because have I told Ed: Yeah yeah yeah. Chaz: you this, Eddie? So I I went it got shrunk in the wash, right? And it was really small. And then I was complaining about it, obviously, and like mum heard me or or Fiona or someone and they were like, we'll just stretch it. And they set it up, stretched it. So then when I went to sent it sent it to this guy who reckons that he was a small or whatever. I tried it on, it was massive. So this guy would Ed: Sec Chaz: have would have like he would have got the shirt and he would have thought, either Charlie is just talking shit or he's got body dysmorphia and he thinks that he's normal size, but he's actually Ed: Yeah, yeah. Chaz: like overweight or obscenely tall. Yeah. So Ed: Yeah, yeah. Well come back. And then while we're here, so Steph and I have launched juice box pumps. Chaz: I saw that, yeah. Ed: yeah, which is a pressure gauge and a pump all in one. And Chaz: Yeah. Ed: we could do a giveaway that if anyone puts any questions or feedback to myself or Charlie, we'll put you in the drawer to win a juice box pump. Chaz: we do one every episode or is it you know guys not quite making that sort of money yet? Ed: we're not quite there. But a little bit of backster on the juice box is Steph and I are trying to buy a fishing boat. So if you are gonna buy one, go to juice boxpumps dot com and all the proceeds will go towards the juice boat. which Chaz: Nice. Ed: we're trying to fund through this venture. and we're about Chaz: Okay. I love it. Ed: twenty p we're about twenty percent of the way there. But yeah, we need all the support we can get to get out on the water. So yeah. Josefox Pumps dot com. And Chaz: So we're supporting supporting a good cause. Ed: Yeah. And if you're in Queenstown, you'll get a trip out on the boat if you've bought a pump. Chaz: What I think we should do, Eddie, is we should I mean this is assuming that people actually want to hang out with us, so that's TBC, but what we should do is we should say once a year we'll take one or two of our listeners out for a a something, a bear or or a writing session and then a bear. Ed: Yeah. Or a or a fishing trip on the juice boat. And then some kind of Chaz: or fishy chip on the juice boat. But basically you can choose. Ed: some kind of adventure. Chaz: So you yeah, basically you win you win, and I'll explain how you win in a minute. And then you can choose what you want. Do you want to learn to stop E? We can get Eddie to teach you that. Or do you want to learn how to corner neither of us. Well, we might be able to do something there. Or or do you want to learn how to split how Ed: We could get Dave in for that though. Chaz: to split the G? And then we'll get Kip Nicholson involved, because Eddie obviously can't split the G. But no, seriously, so if you I reckon Hear me out, Iddy, we can backtrack, we can backpedal if we need to, but say the best question that invokes a confus the best conversation that we get from someone's question. So if someone asks a question and we just get on our absolute roll and it's and it's gold, they are the winner. So basically the best best question of the year. Ed: Yeah. Chaz: And we'll p we'll pick a top few and we'll do we'll do if the fans can vote. We can probably cut the shorts out and put them on Instagram Ed: And then Yeah. Chaz: and then whatever one gets the most likes, that person wins the the the prize of a day with Eddie and Chaz. Ed: Yeah. I'm Kane. Yeah. Yeah Chaz: Are we gonna do it? Are we gonna be doubling down? Ed: yeah yeah yeah. Of course we double down. Always double down. Chaz: Alright, and you you get to star in our adult I mean sports content. Yeah. Ed: Yeah. Yeah. well Chaz: Yeah. Ed: shall we use that I'm I need to run to the toilet. I've got a I had a pretty strong coffee before we started this, so I've got I've got to go get out of here. Chaz: Yeah, get out of here. I've actually well I've got a dog. I've I've lost mum's dog. Don't tell her mum's at work. in town. And this lady was ringing me about the dog. so I've got to go Ed: no. Yeah. Chaz: and rescue the dog. but yeah, see you s Ed: Right. Chaz: see you skiing, but next week, same time, same place. Alright, we'll get a guess. See ya. Ed: Yeah, bro. Sounds good. Peace. Okay, maybe don't turn it off.
