Charles: We're not gonna do a song, because it gets copyrighted anyway. Ed Masters: Okay, the countdown is over. The song doesn't work, but if I was to do a song, it would be ⁓ T.I. bring him out. So if anyone actually wants to listen to the walk to the walkout song this week, it would be T.I. bring him out. But the person we're bringing out is none other than the Rewalker Express. Matt Walker, welcome to the show. Charles: Yeah. Waxr: Hey, glad to be here, guys. Such a prestigious podcast. I'm glad to be invited. Ed Masters: Yeah. Yeah, well, ⁓ Episode 4. Yeah, I think we've had... 1,225 streams, ⁓ And only one of them has been... Only one of them has been mine, believe it or not. Charles: Yeah, we... What do say, a thousand listens. Wow. Yeah, I've set up a bot that just listens on repeat. Waxr: Let's keep going. Ed Masters: Yeah, well, hey, if we can fudge the numbers, we could get some, I don't know, you've got the ins with Land Rover, so like, if we can get into that non-endemic sponsorship, that would be pretty sick. Charles: That's the secret, you need to branch out from the bike industry. Waxr: and fake the numbers. Ed Masters: Yeah, fake the numbers for sure. Yeah, but definitely get away from the bike industry. It's ⁓ yeah. Waxr: Hahaha Charles: Yeah, just fake everything. Yeah. Well, Waxa, tell us your most recent update from last week. Waxr: No money there. What do mean? do we... Well, recently I've just had, well last week, I saw Charlie, yeah, had my knee reconstruction, which has been good. The meniscus was a bit worse off than originally planned, but got that fixed. So I've got a brace on now for six weeks where I can't put any weight on it or bend it. But then, yeah, just glad to get it done and be on the mend. Charles: Well, for the viewers. Ed Masters: Nice. ⁓ What do they do? Had it gotten worse since you got the last scan? Charles: So, I- ⁓ Waxr: Yeah, way worse. Because originally I've done it... Nah, there would have been the XR Hunty Champs day when I'd like... Quite recently after I'd done it, we went and did the XR Hunty Champs day and I gave it a good rev up that day and it was probably worse after the Hunty Champs than when I actually originally tore the ACL. So I'd say I did a lot of damage then but a couple of years worth of minor niggles just sort of... Charles: All that racing, racing, World Cup. Ed Masters: Yeah Waxr: Got buffed out by the Love Doctor himself up in Christchurch, so, profit. Ed Masters: He'd actually be a good sponsor. Next time you see him, see if he wants to sponsor the podcast. You've had two knees done by him. I've had one knee. If we just get Chas in there for a nip and tuck, it'd probably be worth his while chucking a few bucks to the lads. Charles: Yeah. Waxr: Hahaha! Yeah, peace, then. Yeah. Charles: What? Waxr: Yeah, I was going to say he's done more than just both my knees. He's done my knees and one of my shoulders. So I guess in the next few years, I need to get the shoulder to match. So we'll see. Charles: well honestly sorry wax go ahead Yeah, you have the full quad. Waxr: Yeah, from the lab doctor himself. Charles: What do call it? A four-pate. What is that called? Waxr: Hi. Ed Masters: A square. Charles: But I think I do need a knee surgery. One of my left knee's feeling pretty dodgy so... Waxr: Well, would recommend. Ed Masters: Yeah, they're actually sick. anyone who hasn't done it, any, yeah, anyone who, anyone who hasn't, yeah, it's a great time for self-reflection, six months. Yeah, you come out the other side. Yeah, it's good. Charles: Get out there! Waxr: Yeah Yeah, you definitely take a lot for granted with when both your knees are working. And now I'm like, I'm only a weekend and I'm scraping the barrel of what I can even do. So, well, only another six more months to go. Ed Masters: Ha ha. Yeah, what are- what- What are you doing to- What are you doing to stay busy? What's at the bottom of the barrel? Charles: Yeah, fuck. Waxr: learning to use CAD, so I'm drawing some stuff and ⁓ printing it. ⁓ like little vents and stuff. A bit of gaming, you know, all thatish things. ⁓ Charles: ⁓ Ed Masters: Aw, yo! Charles: What are you playing? game? Fortnite. Ed Masters: Well, gaming runs... Gaming runs in the walker family, Waxr: Yeah, yeah, it does adjust. I actually did. I've been dabbling in a little bit of Fortnite. watch out. Now, we should have a mountain bike as Fortnite. We're gamers. No, if I... Charles: Do you see more on there? shit, you won't be catching me on there. Ed Masters: think, I think, I think Moir and Locky and that do, they land up and go hard. They've ⁓ yeah, yeah, you want to, yeah, you want to get in, ⁓ cause they had, they had their gaming, I wouldn't even know, I'm such a boomer. ⁓ had their gaming console with them. ⁓ they ⁓ their gaming console with them in South Korea. Waxr: ⁓ real? Charles: ⁓ Yeah, I think they do, ⁓ Waxr: ⁓ They have fancy computer things. Charles: What is a console? it? I'm thinking, I'm thinking. But I'm thinking a console. Is it like a joystick or something? What's a console? Waxr: Time to change, babe. Ed Masters: You Waxr: The console's like... Ed Masters: It's gaming con- The Xbox. Charles: Hmm. Waxr: I can see why this podcast has only had a thousand listens. ⁓ Charles: Hahaha Ed Masters: Ha ha ha ha! Yeah, because one of the hosts doesn't know what an Xbox is. Charles: Mm-hmm. Waxr: Hahaha Charles: yeah like i've pretty sheltered upbringing Ed Masters: yeah. Waxr: Yeah, they're bloody good. Charles: we will have to be in our house actually Waxr: ⁓ I couldn't get behind that. Yeah. Ed Masters: That's good. I've been trying to... Yeah, I've been trying to... I've been going back and forth with Kara quite a bit because I don't want a TV in our new house and she's like, well, what are we going to have? I just don't like how the lounge is always centered around the TV. I'm like, if you want to go watch... Like put... Well, put the TV in the toilet on the back of the door. If you want to watch TV, go in there by yourself and watch TV. Charles: What do you want the lounge to be centered around? Are you just gonna stand in the middle? Waxr: I like it. Ed Masters: Yeah, yeah, no, like, I don't know, the coffee table? You know how, you know how the, yeah, the, um... Waxr: Okay. Charles: True. ⁓ Miss Bent Summer's coffee table books on a nice coffee table. What do you call it? Rich monogamy. What is it, Mark? That nice word, you know what I'm talking about? Ed Masters: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean... I think rich monogamy is what we're all going for. ⁓ Charles: You you Waxr: You ⁓ Charles: my god. Yeah. ⁓ Ed Masters: Nah, I want the ⁓ I was thinking like, you have it set up in kind of like a square, so like you don't have everything facing towards one wall, you know? Waxr: T.R.I.G.E.S. Charles: Right, so like wax this body, two shoulders, two knees. Waxr: Yeah, old square. Story of life. Nah, good luck. Ed Masters: Yeah, two shoulders, two knees. But, um, you know, don't think I'm winning that argument. I'm not, I'm not winning that fight just yet. Charles: Well, the good thing is put up... My advice, put up a lot of resistance and then you don't really care that much and at the end you can concede and it will be like a big deal and you'll be the man. You'll be a legend. You might even get lucky. Waxr: That you can't I was gonna. Nah, I'm thinking, I'm thinking. Ed Masters: She won't listen to this, either. Waxr: I'm thinking you should do what you did in the MIQ hotel. Kill the TV when it's up. Charles: Yeah, tell us about the TV. Ed Masters: Ha Okay, yeah. So, me wax, me wax and Chaz were in the hotel and we were all in MIQ, which is like the quarantine, the government run quarantine. It's like a concentration camp. Yeah, great time to, great time to have a knee surgery. But, oh, it'll be so good. I, what did I do? I threw my bottle at the rubbish bin, messed the rubbish bin and the lid. Waxr: Okay. Charles: It's like having a knee surgery, basically. Waxr: Yeah, if you went straight into that. Yay. Charles: you Ed Masters: The lid end of the bottle hit the TV and smashed the screen three days out before my departure. then so... ⁓ So, because we were all landing up on our computer consoles, we had like the killing of the TV and I... Because I needed to kill the TV... Waxr: Okay. Charles: You Waxr: you Charles: We an episode. Waxr: He livestreamed it. Ed Masters: Yeah, yeah, I needed to kill the TV so that they didn't charge me for it. But without showing any damage, so we boiled the jug and livestreamed the death of the TV and I had the TV plugged in and then poured the jug down the back of the TV and it slowly died. was... and yeah. And then we all said our goodbyes. Charles: Ha! Waxr: Hahaha! Charles: You Waxr: You Charles: And it worked the plant you pulled it off Eddie Ed Masters: And then- Remember when I got real wasted on the livestream one night? And drank just drank like three bottles of wine by myself in the hotel room. Waxr: Yeah! Do some. Yeah, because you could hold the bottles of wine for a few days and you're only allowed like one a day or whatever. I think you're allowed one a day. Yeah, or you just hold it all. Charles: What was the rope? Yeah, it's like six beers. Ed Masters: Yeah. Yeah. Sucked bea- Sucked spears or? Hmm. ⁓ that was so funny. Remember when ⁓ remember when your- someone was getting those care packages delivered to the- to Matt Walker but there was two Matt Walkers in the hotel? Waxr: Yeah. ⁓ What? Maybe. Charles: Nah Ed Masters: And you were, no, Wex, you were, someone was getting, someone was getting, Waxr: Oh yeah, that's right. Yeah. Yeah. Cause I was like, what? Nobody's ordered me anything like that. So yeah, just getting like deliveries of, I don't know, bakery food and random shit. And it just be not mine. I'm asking people like, did you see this? Me? They're like, no, but no, not my problem. Charles: ⁓ Ed Masters: It was... Yeah Charles: But once you touch it because of the quarantine rules you can't give it out again. Waxr: Yeah, exactly. And by then it was long gone anyway. yeah, well, what a time. Charles: I remember, I think I a live stream of you tucking into some like tan slice or something and I was pretty jealous. Ed Masters: Ha ha ha! It was so good. I was I was across the hall so I get I get a few like scenes across the hallway Charles: You Waxr: just sort of hand me down to you. Because yeah, it one of those like packets of chips and all kinds of just treats and all these and yeah. Charles: Hahaha Ed Masters: Yeah, chocolate and stuff, was... It was mean. It would have been like a hundred bucks a delivery. Charles: that is me. Waxr: Yeah, yeah. So if anyone, whoever is genie knows deliveries is listening by a small, small chance. Thank you very much. Charles: Yeah, you need to find someone who loves you as much as the person who is sending those deliveries, you know? that's the sort of person we all need in our lives. Ed Masters: Yeah, they were delicious. Waxr: Yeah, perfect. Yeah. Yeah, perfect. The person was like, I'm not getting any of this. Save me another one. Ed Masters: And they keep sending them too. Charles: You You Ed Masters: ⁓ so good. Charles: Did you put my name on it? Yeah. It happens pretty often with Matt Walker. It's quite a common name. Waxr: And it did get him the right kissing. Yeah, there's a couple of us around that. Charles: But you're the real Matt Walker, Waxr: What can you do? Yeah. Why would they give me this stuff? Ed Masters: Yeah. Yeah. That's a good point, actually. Waxr: If I wasn't a real man walking, I'd... Yeah. Charles: Yeah, that can feel your aura. What was Or maybe you're a secret admirer. Have you thought about that? Nah, no, no, not a chance. Waxr: Nah. Nah, because they came back and said, ⁓ this is our mistake. Sorry. But yeah, we should have been giving this food to someone else because they ordered it, not you. Yeah. Ed Masters: Yeah. Charles: okay ⁓ Ed Masters: And I just used to ring up the late I used to just ring up the front desk and try and talk to them for as long as I could Waxr: Yeah Charles: You Waxr: What was your record for the most coffees you drank that day as well? Ed Masters: Yeah, I'd always... because every day I need to get more instant coffee. Yeah, and I just rigged up... Hey! ⁓ what a weird time, Waxr: You Charles: ⁓ I remember this day. Waxr: Just call her out. What are you up to? Rrrrraaaahhh! Charles: It was, it was, I wouldn't change it. Honestly, that was such an interesting thing to go through. Waxr: Crazy, huh? Ed Masters: Nah. Waxr: is an experience. Ed Masters: Man Wax would meet up in the car- Man Wax would meet up in the car park and go walk laps three times a day. No. Charles: And to do it with you guys was good. Waxr: We'll go walk laps. Charles: Yeah. Waxr: Yeah, no lingering allowed though. Charles: You can't walk side by side though, You have to like space it out. Waxr: ⁓ yeah, we're headset like such a distancing. So like a meter apart or whatever. But I think. Charles: for distance Ed Masters: Hmm. Yeah. We were kind of all good though, because we were in a bubble, but it was all... the whole stuff, the whole idea of it was so counterproductive to what they were trying to achieve. Waxr: Yeah. Charles: Yeah, there's a few holes. A few holes, for sure. Ed Masters: Yeah, yeah, there were so many holes. It would have been mean. It would have been mean to like try and escape, go out, and then come back at night. Or like come back. Waxr: Yeah, one. Charles: I wanna hear that... Sorry. Yeah. Waxr: It could have been done. Charles: That's what- Someone did escape, remember? Ed Masters: Yeah, but then you got sent to the... Waxr: Yeah, but like to escape and then come back. Charles: but you have to start again. Ed Masters: Yeah, you had to go to the like, the full lockdown one in Auckland somewhere. That's where if you got Covid you got taken there. And they were never seen again. Waxr: Yeah Charles: ⁓ really? Oh, the COVID one, just... Yeah. I... Waxr: Hahaha. And if you go to the COVID hotel, you're probably going to catch actual COVID at that one. Ed Masters: You Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Charles: But ⁓ I want to hear the most craziest story from the lock down the MIQ. Like what went on? someone did someone sneak out and then go on a date and stay the night and then sneak back the next day or like what was the craziest thing? Or was there some sort of relationships within the hotel like sending love letters across the hallway? And you guys might have had a bit of that but... Waxr: I'll Surely it would happen. Ed Masters: you There would have been... There would have been, Well, think about what goes on in prison and then magnify it, because you've got, like... A little bit more freedom. Yeah. Like, it would have been real easy to, like, smuggle contraband in. ⁓ Waxr: Yeah Charles: Yeah, enough to be dangerous. Waxr: Yeah, no chicks. Charles: You You didn't need anything else Eddie. The caffeine and the alcohol was more than enough. Wine. I remember that wine thing, that was pretty funny. I think we kind of had a few token drinks just to sort of encourage you along. Waxr: It's caffeine and wine. Ed Masters: Yeah... ⁓ Waxr: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Ed Masters: I was having a great time. I was having a great time. Yeah, exactly. Waxr: He really grabbed it with both hands. He ran with it. Charles: But what else are you gonna do? And if you hung over, like, it's just another day. May as well... Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: Mmm, just in a hotel room. Waxr: It went surprisingly quick, yeah. Like I remember it, I don't know, it felt like the longest short time ever. Ed Masters: Yeah, it went so quiet. Charles: Yeah. What does that mean? But what do you think was the... What was the hardest point? I reckon like just before halfway you're like, fuck this is never gonna end. What was the day that was the worst? Waxr: where I like is long but short. Yeah. Ed Masters: Mm-mm. Waxr: Once you got over the jet lag, like the first few days were mint because you're just jet lagged and tired and lots of sleep anyway. And then, once you like kind of got into the circadian rhythm, you're like waking up with the sun and stuff. And then the days just drag while you're trying to like adjust to doing nothing. Charles: Yeah. Yeah, true. Ed Masters: Yeah. Charles: That was a good thing, like, that's how you should rest after a 12 hour time change. You actually should probably, well, at least one week. But we just all go out riding the next day and then wonder why we're fatigued. Ed Masters: Ready to go. Waxr: Well, we're two weeks in a hotel room. Yeah, yeah, I'm brushing off. Yeah. More MIQ here again. Ed Masters: Mmm. Charles: Bring it back. Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: Yeah, mandatory. Waxr: Imagine. Ed Masters: It'll come back. It'll come back. It's like that. It's like whatever's going on on that cruise ship right now. That could be COVID. Waxr: Hugs away. Mmm. Charles: What's that? Ed Masters: ⁓ there's some cruise ship where heaps people are getting violently ill or maybe dying? I don't know. I haven't been following it too much, but yeah. It's just been parked, it's just parked up in the bay in Wuhan. Charles: ⁓ Doesn't sound good. God there's so many conspiracies about that Covid We're not going to get into that but ⁓ Waxr: ⁓ sounds sketchy. Ed Masters: Yeah Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: Yeah. Waxr: I'd love another lockdown though. The lockdown was great. Ed Masters: Nah, but if you know any... But if someone... Yeah, if someone knows any crazy COVID stories, let us know. Charles: Mmm. Yeah I wouldn't mind a lockdown, I've got a few projects I'd like to get into. Just let me know a few weeks in advance so can stockpile building materials. A whole house worth. What if you just have a lockdown and you're doing the house and you can't get any materials, you just have to make do with what you've got? Would you dismantle half of it and then use it for the other half? What would you do? Waxr: Yeah, distraction free. Yeah, be nice. Ed Masters: Mmm. Waxr: Thank you to Matt. Eddie was kind of in that scenario, where he went home last time. Ed Masters: Oh, I was... Yeah, but I didn't get to do any work. Oh, was such a stitch up. I panicked left Queenstown because I went home because I was doing a house project and I was like, me and I'll work on the house and then we couldn't get any materials. So I was just, I was like quarantining from my parents. Because no one knew what was going on. Charles: you Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: and then Charles: But the zoo lockdown looked pretty fun, to be honest. Waxr: Yeah, we missed that one. We're overseas. Ed Masters: Yeah, I was very jealous. Charles: yeah, true. ⁓ Ed Masters: ⁓ yeah. Waxr: Yeah, that would have been a good time, man. Charles: um... well i've got a few talking points and i also put out some stories i don't know if you saw me bombing the internet with instagram stories but what do you guys have stuff you want to cover or are just going to run it raw? Waxr: Roadhog is always Charles: Play it live. Ed Masters: Took down a few no, I've got if you I've got I've got a few notes like you do mine's a real crap though, but ⁓ So, ⁓ okay like the see this afternoon we just went and bought a rice cooker And I just I just wanted to comment on how much of a game changer it is Charles: Yeah, so you start with your crap ones first thing. We'll do one for one. Waxr: guys. Hahaha Charles: ⁓ my god they're good, Ed Masters: Yeah, that's like... Waxr: Is that what took you so long tonight to come on the potty playing with your ice cooker? Ed Masters: Well, was eating, I was, I was eating perfectly cooked rice. Fluffy. Waxr: with minimal effort as well. Charles: Yeah, how does it fluff it? Is there a fluffer in there? Ed Masters: I don't know and it doesn't even stick to the bottom. So if anyone's wondering, briscoes for 60 % off sale right now, get it down from $90 to $30. best money you'll spend. Oh, they don't make it for $30, they make it for about three bucks. Yeah, I don't know. Waxr: That's magic. Charles: Let's play non-stick. ⁓ how do they make it for $30? But what about the metal? Anyway, what's the world coming to, And then we pay 15 grand for a motorbike. How does that work? Or 20 grand for a mountain bike. Ed Masters: Yeah, that's... What I don't get on the topic of motorbikes on the topic of motorbikes is how is a motocross bike so much cheaper than an enduro bike but when they're both a motorbike? What's the diff- Yeah, what's the difference? Waxr: Yeah, it's backwards. Charles: Yeah. and they're pretty similar. Waxr: I know, she always like, it almost must be the market. Charles: Everyone's scared of motocross bikes. Ed Masters: Yeah, but it just doesn't make any, make any seeds. Waxr: Like why is it same as a why is a road bike cost 20 grand and a mountain bike cost 15? Surely it's just to do with the market of like change the pre paying the top guys I guess. So like the top motocross rider of you any more than a top enduro guy. Charles: That's very good point. Ed Masters: Yeah. Charles: Nah, but then the motocross bike should be more expensive. If it's like road cycling. Waxr: yeah. Ed Masters: And you'd think that if it was like mountain biking, like they pay Bruni heaps to sell enduro bikes, but they don't sell many downhill bikes. So you think Honda would be paying Jet Lawrence to sell enduro bikes, but Honda doesn't even have an enduro bike, really. Waxr: Mmm. Yeah. Charles: true. Ed Masters: So go figure. Charles: yeah that's a good this really poor was price difference like double Waxr: Great mystery. Ed Masters: You Waxr: Hahaha Ed Masters: Now, like you can get a brand new motocross bike for like what 14 grand and then the top Enduro bikes like 23, 24. Yeah. So it's like quite a lot different, but then yeah, like if you look at a two stroke KTM SX 300 or whatever, it's like, should be the same roughly as a Enduro 300. Waxr: Then dirt bikes, yeah, 22 or something. Yeah. Substantial amount, yeah. Charles: Mm. Waxr: Yeah, there's not like eight grand's worth of extras. Charles: No, no way. That's bad, There's also none in the country. Yeah. Straight back onto the topic of motorbikes, which is where we wanted to be anyway. Ed Masters: But anyway, so yeah, this is where rice cookers get you. Waxr: Ha ⁓ Ed Masters: You Ha ha ha ha ha! Charles: Well, seeing you've started with a good story of how exciting your evening's been Eddie, ⁓ I'll go with one. I was telling Max this before. ⁓ So Nick, Pascoe and I, you've come across Pascoe. Yep. So we decided we want to and kike around Stewart Island. And... for some reason we've decided we're going to do it in about three weeks, so just after the working bee. ⁓ So I got home pretty early today, I'm like, ⁓ man, I've got time to get out for a paddle. So took the sea car out, I ⁓ trundled down to the beach with my wheels, I've got little wheels that strap on the bottom, so you can walk it like a dog down the footpath, looking like a real Scrogmuncher. And then... Ed Masters: you Waxr: Thank Charles: I'll just launch off the beach, I can't be bothered going out of the boat ramp, it's like another 10 minute walk or maybe not even 5 minutes, whatever. you know, why? A bit of excitement and your life's always good so it's quite a big surf today coming in. I'll go out through the breakers, all good. And Sumner's quite a flat beach so it's just lines of breakers the whole way out. And start paddling out and obviously with a surfboard you don't really notice the size of the waves that you just duck under. Even with a long board you can kind of get the board over so the white water goes under you. But with the kayak you just go straight into the white water every time. I was just getting blasted in the face. then one of the waves pretty much broke on the front deck. And I'm not sure at what point this happened. And then another few big waves came. and what happened is the front compartment for all the storage, the cover, there's like two covers and the inside cover had blown off from the pressure of the wave and it had just filled with water. So then I couldn't steer because my rudder was out of the water because the front had so much weight that the nose was underwater. It was like a submarine. I was doing a stoppie. So then I did a stoppie all the way through like out the back where all the surfers were cruising and I was just paddling past with... Ed Masters: Ha ha! Charles: with the rudder in the air and then I managed to do emergency landing at the boat ramp, the classic boaty, pulled it up, drained it and then I just avoided the breakers after that. I was like, yeah, this is why I'm practicing. Ed Masters: You must have looked like such an idiot. Waxr: Yeah, stays Lord. Okay. Ed Masters: ⁓ that's good. Charles: But yeah, didn't come to grief. Ed Masters: ⁓ Waxr: map it. Ed Masters: How, what's the circumference of Stuart Arlen? Charles: no idea but it's to take us about ten days Ed Masters: love this. Waxr: Yeah, it'd be quite the job. Ed Masters: along to Charles: I think you can do it in 4 5 days but often the weather's a bit shit so then you want to do more. probably pedal about half the days you're on the island. Ed Masters: It says 10 to 14 days. Charles: Does it give you a distance? Ed Masters: 300k So it's quite big Charles: Yeah right, so you're 10 days if you do 30Ks a day. So today I did 10Ks and it took me an hour and a half. Cause, what's that? 7 and a half K now. Is that right? Yeah that didn't help. But that was STEEZ. They take time off when you do STEEZ. Waxr: It's a fair bit of paddling. Ed Masters: ⁓ yeah. And a little bit of it, you were doing a nose manual, so... Waxr: And that's extra, that's actually training for when it does get real miserable down there. Ed Masters: Yeah Charles: Yeah. Yeah, we're gonna have quite short days I reckon, ⁓ Going into June. Yeah. You'll literally get up, it'll be dark, start paddling. Ed Masters: Yeah. Waxr: Yeah, they're fly by. Ed Masters: like the actual length of the... ⁓ thought you meaning like you're gonna pedal real fast and it's just gonna be over and done with real quick. I was like, ⁓ it sounds quite easy for you guys. ⁓ Charles: Just super arrogant over here, hey. Yeah, no, I'm not that confident, Eddie. But the thing about kayaks is that they have a hull speed. So depending on the shape of the kayak, there's a maximum speed they can go. So if you paddle twice as hard, like if you paddle really gently, you get pretty close to the hull speed. Like you'll get to six or six and a half. Ed Masters: Yeah. Waxr: Okay. like marginal gains. Ed Masters: Yeah. Charles: And then if you double your effort, you might get to 7k now or 7.5k now. And then if you triple your effort, exactly. And eventually, no matter how strong you are, you just can't, because you can't get on the plane, right? Ed Masters: So you've got a lot of diminishing returns. Yeah, yeah. Especially not if you've got your... Especially not if you're rudder... Especially not if you're rudders out. Waxr: Hahaha Charles: ⁓ wish I had a photo of it aye, I was too busy trying not to tip over. Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: It's so good. Yeah. Yeah. When people say, your rudder out, they don't actually mean it. Waxr: Room one Charlie, keep the rudder in. Charles: Yeah, that means get the rudder in. Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: Mm, yeah, get your rudder in. Charles: Like, get your honor in. Anyway, Wax, anything happen this evening that you want to report on? Waxr: ⁓ nah, just been waiting for you guys. All you guys mess around, Charles: Yeah Ed Masters: I was cooking. I was cooking chipotle pork belly ⁓ stir fry with my rice cooker. Well, with the rice. No, no, I put that on top of the rice. It was pretty good actually from ⁓ Airtown Biltry. ⁓ Charles: You put that in the rice cooker. Waxr: That sounds fancy. What do you your Ed Masters: Seven. Yeah, seven. Yeah, I um, we drizzled a bit of this K-pop sauce that I bought home from Korea. I didn't know what flavor it was, yeah, it popped. Yeah, what was it? was like K-pop Demon Hunters. That was the flavor of the sauce. Charles: nice so not so just pretty standard for eddie Yeah, I that. Waxr: Yeah Charles: That was naughty. Ed Masters: Yeah, that was pretty good. Nah, just me and Karazaki, KX500. Yeah. Yeah, and then got some... We'd probably cook five nights a week and she would cook three because I think she's a better cook and cares more about food. Charles: Do you cook for the whole flat, Eddie? or not. Waxr: That's easy. What's the roster? You get one on each or? Ed Masters: You Charles: You Ed Masters: Because when I suggest, ⁓ we should have chicken wraps, no, it doesn't go down. Waxr: ⁓ I could eat that like every day of week. Charles: Yeah, I was about to say that. There's nothing wrong with that. Ed Masters: Bro, I could have breakfast burritos for breakfast for 365 days a year. And then I'd have chicken wraps for lunch and dinner. And it would just be, it would honestly be the dream. would like, some days I'd rather that than going out to like a Michelin star restaurant. I've never actually been to a Michelin star restaurant, Waxr: ⁓ You'd be one happy man. Yeah. Charles: you Waxr: I was going to say, you go often do you? Ed Masters: Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I can tell you right now that I would prefer chicken wraps because it wouldn't be like this tiny little dish drizzled with like, it's like a five year old painted the plate and they like make it real expensive. Yeah. Waxr: and it takes way too long. Charles: Have you been waxy? Waxr: Um, like, I don't know, I'd say the fanciest would be one of the ones here in Queensland, maybe, maybe Belize or something out at Eben. Quite nice actually. Charles: Bye. Ed Masters: ⁓ yeah, actually, beliefs trust the chef, it's pricey but, ooh, it's good. Waxr: Yeah, real tasty. Ed Masters: Yeah. Hmm. Yeah, you'll have to come down. We have I'm actually hosting an event. I'm actually hosting an event at Airburn in August. ⁓ won't divulge too much information, but I'll let you know about it later. Charlie, it'll be real good. Waxr: Like I said, real prosody. Charles: That one we went to... What was that? Yeah, alright mate, well as long as it's not on the the same weekend as our ski mission. Ed Masters: Nah, that'll be bloody good. Charles: we can still hear you. Ed Masters: ⁓ you're still on. Charles: you got no dot there. Did you close the other tab maybe? Yeah. Ed Masters: Ummm, okay, well ladies and gentlemen, we might have lost wax, but I'll try Adam again. Charles: Well we're still recording Eddie so we should have all of us shouldn't we? Ed Masters: ⁓ yeah, we've lost them. Okay, I'll... yeah, but I'm adding wax back in. Charles: Yeah, I'm just hoping we have wax too. we never figured out why it's called the rewalker express. Ed Masters: think it's just something I said one day. It's just like, whack, waxer, re-walker. Are you back? Charles: all you slightly Waxr: We're back. I've got the real... Yeah, I'm recording again. Ed Masters: All right. Hey, man, welcome back. Charles: Welcome back. Welcome back to the pod. Waxr: Hey, good to be back. Did I miss much? Probably not. Ed Masters: So, um, nah, so to celebrate you guys being back, um, I've actually got, uh, I don't know if you guys know this, but, or maybe we've talked about it before, but you know, on the Fox Axle, it's got a signature in it. It's like good luck and good racing. The signature actually belongs to Jeff Kibush. And, um, he was, he was the, he was the guy who got them to Charles: Hmm. Yep. Really? Ed Masters: create a thru axle for all the fox forks and then they put his signature on it but he doesn't get a royalty Waxr: Oh, I was just about to ask. Surely you get some royalty from that then. Charles: you Ed Masters: Nah, he doesn't get a royalty. He just has his signature on it and they call it the cabal, like the caboosh bolt. But he gets the credit, his signature's on there, but he doesn't get a royalty. But imagine, even if it was like five cents. Like, yeah, I'm like, ⁓ man. Yeah, yeah. said, he said, he's like, he told me about it at Transcascadia. Waxr: Yeah. Charles: Like, he's got the critter. Waxr: Even 10 cents a boat. Yeah, it'd be crazy. Charles: Holy... Did you talk to him about it? Alright. Ed Masters: But how good is that? It's like every time you pull, you'd be so bummed every time you see your signature. I'd be like, I mean, it's kind of cool having it on there, but you'd be like, ⁓ take it off. It reminds me of how much money I've lost. Waxr: Yeah. Charles: Yeah. Well, yeah. Waxr: Yeah, at the time you surely could have put together a contract with like what seemed like a persistingly small amount but would have paid itself off crazy amounts by now. Charles: Yeah. Ed Masters: Yeah, it'd be like the ⁓ Nah, it'd be like the... It'd be like the... Reef Sandal and McFenning. Charles: No one likes to do royalty deals though. Only Michael Jordan. Waxr: Nah. Yeah, maximum $8,000. Ed Masters: Yeah, I think it's like, as far as royalties go, it's super low. But because they've sold like 12 million pairs or something, he's made heaps of money out of it. Waxr: Yeah, the volume is insane. Charles: Is that the one with the bottle opener or is it just the standard one? Yeah, nice. On the bottom. How does it work? I even see, I'm gonna look it up on Google. Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: Yeah, bottle opener. Yeah. I think just American heaps of American college bros ⁓ Surely you would have come across you would have come across it in Bozeman Yeah, Chas Chas would have come across it Charles: ⁓ yeah, yeah, yeah, I am a college bro Yeah Yeah, fuck chairs Yep, yep, no, no, and me and those ⁓ those college jocks we going real well actually What are you cracking into there Eddie? Waxr: Charlie didn't but Chas made them. Hahaha. Ed Masters: Hahaha! Waxr: Hahaha Ed Masters: Spate's ⁓ Beer 3 Star. Celebrating being home. ⁓ gonna- it's gonna- this is gonna turn out like one of those MRQ streams. ⁓ Charles: Yeah. Yeah. Waxr: Congrats! ⁓ Well, a watered down TV. Charles: Yeah, yeah. Then Kara won't be very happy if you boil a jug and pour it through your own TV. It really is good idea after a few bottles of wine. Ed Masters: Yeah, yeah, yeah. ⁓ so I've got another thing- Yeah, I've got another thing. ⁓ So the Tour de France is coming up. Imagine, you know, on the mountain hill climbs, like let's just use ⁓ Lejeu or something like the Jouplan or something, for example. Charles: Yeah. Yep. Ed Masters: Imagine if you had to ride the road bike up, but then you descended down the other side off road, but you have to ride the same bike and that's part of the tour. Charles: Just one stage or just all the mountain stages? One stage. But you can choose any bike, but it has to the same bike for the climb and the descent. Ed Masters: once now like just one stage, but like you can choose, you can choose. Yeah, you can choose any bike, but people's off-road descending skills would be able to decide the overall race, reckon, because there would be people that would put minutes into the other person. Waxr: the whole lot. Charles: Yeah. And minutes in the tour can be huge when you're just in the bunch every day. Ed Masters: Yeah, and getting the right, if you got the bike choice wrong, cause ⁓ you could be fast on the tarmac, but real slow off road. Charles: Yeah, well I reckon you just need an XC bike, surely. Ed Masters: Alright, you're in. Yeah, 29 a hardtail probably. Waxr: Why you change tyres? Charles: I was thinking it was just a 29 fully. In any XC bike with good tires, like, not good tires, like fast rolling tires. Ed Masters: Yeah But you, like... ⁓ So like, Vanderpoel and Pidcock would be shit hot, but then like, I can't imagine like, Vingagore or something is that, yeah, there'd be some people who suck at off road. Waxr: Living out of them surely. Yeah. Charles: I think Vin Negar would be pretty good, like have you seen him avoiding traffic islands and things? Like some of the boys in the road tour would do a two wheel drift, save it, ride the front and then keep going. Ed Masters: Yeah, true. That's actually, yeah. Yeah, then grab a Stucky bottle. Charles: We've got feedback, where's it? Oh, stop recording. Ed Masters: you Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Oh no, this is a shit show but it's so good. We've lost our making. Charles: What? Is it, are your headphones out of battery? ⁓ It's quite hard to get the flow, isn't it? Ed Masters: We've lost him again. He needs to get a laptop. Charles: you know the Ed Masters: But yeah, I reckon those XE guys, I wonder if I need to send him a new link. no, he's back. Charles: Nice bag. Waxr: touching anything it's random just like Sid just says that something stopped and it's uploading my thing and then it won't start recording again Ed Masters: Third, Charles: Maybe you have a maximum time that your phone can record before it uploads it. Waxr: I know, because that last one was real short compared to the first one. Ed Masters: All Charles: Yeah. Ed Masters: It's all good man, there's no low hanging fruit on this one. Waxr: Yeah, we've only got the bars sit pretty low. Charles: Yeah, we don't- ⁓ I got lint on my head. We don't care. Yeah, the lower the better. What I noticed, I did a podcast with Chris from Downtime. He's- he's so good, ⁓ I can- He doesn't really talk about himself at all, and he just asks the best questions. Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: Yeah, he keeps them, he gets it flowing. He, he, he like, he like tees it up. He tees it up perfectly and you just smack the ball. Waxr: Is this? Charles: Yeah, it's actually way harder than you'd Clearly. out of the park every time. Wow. Depending on how humble you are. Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: Yeah, ⁓ there's actually a lot to be said about listening, like listening, not good at that, taking it on board, definitely not good at that. Yeah, and then sculpting a question. Waxr: Ha you Charles: And then putting it into a good question even harder, but no I was impressed Waxr: Hahaha Charles: He does his homework too, like he'd watched and researched some stuff about me before we did it. Ed Masters: Yeah, I guess you'd learn that the more you put in, the more you get out. there must be a few... Yeah. Hey dude, I've got a list here. There must have been a few occasions where you've got someone who's young or isn't as chatty as you might have thought. And then you kind of... Charles: Where does that leave us, Waxr: Yeah. Charles: Sorry, there must be a few what? Ed Masters: get to the end of end of the road of of combo and then you realize that like having not done your research or not having like prepared a few backups, you get those like awkward silences. Waxr: It'd be hot. Ed Masters: Like now. Waxr: Hahaha! ⁓ Charles: Yeah, you really, you sit there all night for you, Ed Masters: Yeah, thanks man. I'd tate it up and you guys hit it. Charles: I'm just gonna ignore me for a minute, I'm just gonna go on Instagram and see if anyone replied anything saucy to this thing. Just talk amongst yourselves though. Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: Oz. Waxr: Who else is in the DMS? Surely a couple people. Charles: all you would have a call support on last week on the for the story Waxr: Any good? Ed Masters: On what story? Charles: we had a bit of a story. ⁓ Richie Rhoades. Richie Rhoades, ⁓ just commented in. So, Richie Root, you can't really see it. ⁓ you can actually. Is that bit all backwards? Waxr: Now it's straight. Ed Masters: ⁓ Now we can see that. Charles: So this was the story, Eddie. Ed Masters: Yeah. Charles: Can you see that? Ed Masters: Yeah. Yeah. And what's Richie commented? Charles: Richie just said, he just replied with a laughing heart, laughing eyes and I just said, is this you applying for the job? And then just today he said, okay, should I buy a house too? Waxr: Where are you going to go? Yes. Ed Masters: Yeah. Charles: That's a- So yes, Richie. But make sure it's not finished. Waxr: Yeah, the bigger the project, the better. Ed Masters: I've got a few questions in my one eye. Alex Storz in the DMs. Alex Storz has asked like a mountain bike one, favorite and worst stage ever. Charles: yet what have you got for us Ed Masters: stage ever. ⁓ Waxr: There's been a few in there. Ed Masters: Yeah, there was one in Latua where I tried to organise a boycott. I think the first year we... Nah, was just like, you just... You basically raced up a river. It's just like against the flow. Waxr: Was that like state big clan? Charles: You Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: And it was just like, why are we doing this? It was such a good race apart from that stage. And I was like, look, we have the power in our hands. If we all just sit down and refuse to race it, they will have to count the results minus the one stage. But obviously, obviously everyone's. Waxr: It's weird you didn't get people on board. Charles: Yeah. This is the thing, if it was all of us, if it was us three cloned, and then we made up the entire field, we would be able to do stuff like this, ⁓ Be so good. Yeah. Because none of us are really afraid to stir the pot a little bit. Especially now that we've got nothing to lose. Ed Masters: Nah, nah they weren't keen. Waxr: Alright, you're get shit done. Ed Masters: Hmm. Yeah. Waxr: Especially if you got... Yeah. You might lose another couple listeners on the podcast. Charles: What's Ed Masters: I'm Judith. I reckon the best stage I ever raced was ⁓ in Petson, the one that went across over the ridgeline. It was like a loamy rut. Yeah, it was like a loamy rut track. And then afterwards you rode through the No, ⁓ no, you weren't there. was so good though. Just like. Waxr: I was thinking that I... Charles: I reckon I didn't do that race. Waxr: That was 2019. Charles: Was that Rupert's broken leg one? Ed Masters: Yeah, that's when Rupert broke his leg. A moment of it. 2018, yeah. 2018, Petson. Yeah. Yeah, that year we went vegan. Three months. Yeah, he broke his leg. Waxr: ⁓ that would have been yeah 2018 or something. ⁓ Charles: We need to stop drinking. Waxr: Yeah, would have been 2018. Yeah. Yeah. Charles: That's when he went vegan, ⁓ Yeah. Waxr: broke his leg because of that. The arch in... best and worst in one race would have been Olag when you had that um there was that sixth stage down from the hospital. It was like a real good one that was different to everything else and then the rest was just like slippery jank rocks. Ed Masters: Yeah, yeah, I was thinking when you said Ola I was yeah man there was a hard race Waxr: That was so hard. And there was one good stage and that was it. Ed Masters: Yeah. Charles: That's not the one where like every pro rider came into the section and just crashed straight away. Was that the one? Yeah, yeah yeah yeah, I've seen, there's a video of it on YouTube Ed Masters: Yeah, the death shoot. Waxr: it's the gnarliest death shoot of rocks. It's just ⁓ gnarly. Yeah, even Sam Hill crashed. Ed Masters: Yeah, there's a vital roar. Yeah, God. God crashed. ⁓ I remember like, so it was so cold as- Charles: Yeah. Waxr: Hehehehehe ⁓ Charles: Didn't you, Eddie, you laced that section, ⁓ and then you just crashed at the end. I'm pretty, you did, ⁓ We watched a video of you in a blue jacket doing it. Ed Masters: Yeah, Now I broke, ⁓ yeah, yeah. And I rode the whole race in a ski jacket with a beanie in my pocket so that I could put a beanie on at the top of the hill. Yeah. ⁓ Yeah, they were real good. That was hard though. That was like a big race of climbing, weather, Trails were pretty hard. Yeah, it was wild. Waxr: You Charles: ⁓ the ghetto dies. Waxr: Yeah. Massive day. Not even pretty hard, that was real hard. was just like slippery, jank, crap. Charles: you Ed Masters: Yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, the district was so good Charles: I can't believe the death shoot, You just... You just guaranteed to crash. That's so good. Waxr: That was good. ⁓ you're about a one in ten. There's like a one in ten chance of making it through. So not guaranteed. You're like one in ten. Ed Masters: You actually. Yeah. Charles: Wait, some people made it. Ed Masters: There was nothing you did. There was nothing you did which helped you or hindered you getting down the chute. It was just a complete lottery. Charles: Yeah, you just put your life in God's hands and he decides. Waxr: Nah. Ed Masters: Yeah, like if you got it like I did, if I got it that one time, nine other times, I would crash. Doing the exact same thing. Waxr: Exactly. Charles: Oh, I've got to let them miss these sort of ones. I'm trying to think of my least favourite and favourite. The problem is, Chance is a bit... He loves shit things. Um... Yeah. Yeah. Waxr: Very good fact. He's pretty optimistic. Ed Masters: like stages. Shit stage specialist. Charles: ⁓ So my answer is going to be bit skewed, but to be honest, that Loma and Morion was pretty amazing this year. Waxr: That was pretty up there. Ed Masters: ⁓ actually, yeah. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Charles: If that went on for 10 minutes, that would have been hands down the best idea ever, but it was fucking good. Ed Masters: They'd have to name it ejaculation. Charles: What's the worst stage? I reckon we've had some absolute shockers. What about that I didn't really enjoy that sort of pump tracky sort of, what do call it, blue trail at World Champs this year that was soft because it was so new and you just pedaled the whole way. Ed Masters: you Waxr: Nah. But what about the, I don't know if you were to race this fun, Chas, but what was it, at Burke, and it was like a green track. So it was just like five minutes of flat bumpy piddling. Ed Masters: Yeah, that... Charles: ⁓ that was shocking. Was that when you did... Ed Masters: The trail, this, the trek... The trek was called Cross Country. Yeah. The trail name was Cross Country. Yeah, you were there. Waxr: You just went across. Yeah. Let's put that out there as, yeah. Charles: Yeah, I reckon I was at Burke. was when I was with Spech, like my first year I think. I'm pretty sure, did we do a sick top section and then it just did an XC trail at the bottom for like five minutes? And we crossed the road, or was that Sugarloaf? No that was Burr, but Sugarloaf was sick actually. Ed Masters: Yeah. Waxr: Yeah, true. Yeah, yeah. Ed Masters: Yeah. Yeah, it was the long- Waxr: Yes. Ed Masters: I always get, I get the two mixed up. I just kind of see them as the same place, Birkin Sugar Life, because they were so close. Waxr: Yes. Yeah. Arkin? Charles: Sugarloaf is the one where you case that jam pay. Waxr: That was... ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Charles: I'm sorry, Rider X, Rider X, Rider X on Bike X. Case the Jum, hey? Ed Masters: You Waxr: It might have been. ⁓ my god. I'm surprised. Ciao y'all. Ed Masters: Yeah, follow me. I'll tow you into it. And then, boom, snap my frame. Waxr: I'm surprised you even remember those races, Charlie, after that massive head-knock you had bowling. Charles: ⁓ my god! That was, that was the, that was Eddie's birthday, wasn't it? That was pretty awkward, ⁓ but I can tell the story because not everyone will know, but so we're racing the States. Yeah, well, pull me up if I have any issues. But basically, Eddie was having his birthday and it was like probably the day before practice. Ed Masters: Alright! Waxr: Yeah, that was insanely savage. Yeah. Ed Masters: Yeah. Waxr: Do you remember it? Ed Masters: You Charles: Um, and we went down to the bowling alley, classic American. It was awesome. They beers, chips, soft drinks, a of a few arcade games and then a nice bowling alley. And yeah, we were there with our crew, probably just all the Kiwis mostly. And then I remember Martin Mays was there and a couple of some other race teams were there as well. And they were kind of off to the side. Ed Masters: Hmm. you Charles: uh... but uh... but but but but but but but but but but but but but but but but but but but do this massive long run up. So I went way back and like came through the couches and then ran across the floor and went to throw my ball but the ball sort of got stuck on my fingers and I kind of went to slow down but the floor was so slippery and I didn't realize that once you get past the line it's like ice because they oil it but the bit before the line they don't oil. So It was like a cartoon, sort of, my feet went out from under me and I tried to save it by sort of jumping up. So then I jumped up into the air and I felt like I was about two meters off the ground, completely horizontal, lying down in the air and then just fell straight and my head, I tried to tense my neck so my head wouldn't hit the floor, but it was too much force and my head just whiplashed straight onto the floor. Saw stars. Waxr: It was a whiplash. That was a straight shit whip. You got pumped. Ed Masters: Sorry. ⁓ it was so gnarly. You were like a meter and a half off the ground, I reckon, at your peak. Charles: You Waxr: Yeah. Yeah, it was so high. Charles: You If I had just gone down and not tried to like regain my balance it would have been fine but it's because I caught it sort of jumped and tried to do like a cat but I'm not a cat. Anyway so I sort of crawl off the thing pretty groggy and feeling really sorry for myself and at this point we were quite new to the team and it was me with all the Frenchies you know pretty serious professional team Ed Masters: Yeah. Yeah. Waxr: Yeah. Charles: and they don't like clowning around and it was quite hard even for us to go out with the Kiwis the night before practice we had to like... well it was just me because Tom wasn't there yet so it was just me I did pull some strings and say ⁓ please like this will make me race better because I'll be you know more relaxed and be able to hang out with my mates blah blah blah and they're like reluctantly the Frenchies are like okay fine you can go out and ⁓ you know just obviously don't don't get on the piss ⁓ so Waxr: Or don't smack your head. ⁓ Charles: I can't remember if we had some beers, didn't really get on the purse but came back with a throbbing headache either way. Ed Masters: Nah, it was pretty chill apart from your behaviour on the... lane. Waxr: Yeah. Charles: and ⁓ i thought i got away with it so i ⁓ well you know i was clowning around Ed Masters: you Waxr: Maybe it would have been better if you were drinking. Charles: Yeah, at least it's explainable. But anyway, so came home and I thought, I'll try and pull the wool over your eyes and just not sort say anything. And then the next day the massage lady's given me a massage. She's like, oh, wow, your neck feels really tight. And I'm like, oh, that's interesting. She's like, yeah, it's quite stiff. It doesn't really want to move. And she starts poking it. Oh, does it hurt here? Does it hurt here? Oh, no, it's not too bad. It's not too bad. And it's like, can sore. Ed Masters: You Waxr: Okay. Charles: eventually she says, ⁓ cause Marta May speaks French, right? And he obviously talked to our physio and said, yeah, I saw Charlie down at the bowling alley yesterday and he, ⁓ had a pretty serious head knock. ⁓ so being young and dumb, still raced and was trying very hard not to crash and managed not to crash, but don't know. Waxr: Yeah. Charles: where definitely would have had concussion i in some regard i wasn't i wasn't snoring Waxr: Yeah, I remember it being not quite the usual, yeah, it wasn't quite the usual Chaz performance that weekend on the track. So I'd say you definitely knocked yourself a bit stupid out. Charles: Yeah, but I also think when you start overthinking it, then you're realising like, I kinda can't not race because I had a bowling alley incident that my team didn't really want me to go to anyway. But then I shouldn't really race because I hit my head again. So I was in this like no man's land of overthinking it, constantly stressing about how bad my head was. But then still trying to race and pretend that I was all good. Ed Masters: Yeah Waxr: Hahaha! Yeah. Ed Masters: You Charles: ⁓ god, what a stressful time. Waxr: Yeah, I was going to say, I've learned to live with it because normally, yeah, you just end up in these shit situations. And 90 % of the time it is Eddie's fault. And it was Eddie's birthday, so that one was Eddie's fault. Charles: Well that, what, is that like the ⁓ You can ⁓ Yeah you can explain yourself to About why my performance that weekend was below par. But at least, at least I wasn't on the piss. Ed Masters: Hahaha! I'll tell, I'll, yeah. Waxr: that it is from. Ed Masters: ⁓ yeah. Sorry, Metru. Yeah, no, it was like one or two beers. Max. Charles: Because you would never get on the bus before races or anything, hear you. Ed Masters: I should know. Waxr: What? ⁓ Charles: ⁓ I ran into Kip the other day. I ran into Kip Nicholson the other day and he had a good yarn. He went to Andorra to spectate. ⁓ One year. And I can't remember who he was spectating but he was there hanging out with Ryder XYZ. And he says that Ryder XYZ were perfecting into it a little bit. To say the least I guess. ⁓ Ed Masters: Yeah, shit no. Waxr: No way. You Ed Masters: He was. It was actually during, there was actually writers, it was writers ABC to XYZ. There was quite. Waxr: Yeah. Charles: you Waxr: Yeah, and I blame not any team, but like I blame a particular team that starts with, mean, I can't name names, but it rhymes with Anticruz Indicate. A certain team manager there was actually just feeding everyone bottles of wine. So X, Y and Z, but the writers just had no choice. Charles: Yeah Ed Masters: You Charles: you Really? Ed Masters: Cause it, yeah, there was. Charles: Well it sounds like that Anticrew's indicate, ⁓ the team that rhymes with that, sounds like that team manager got what was coming from anyway. That's what Cap reckons. Cap reckons that Cap reckons that Steve Pate woke up in the morning with some Waxr: I'm Ed Masters: Yeah, he did. Waxr: You Right. Ed Masters: ⁓ my God. I hear she's kiss. Waxr: little brown kisses. A couple little brown kisses on the top sheet. Charles: Yeah, a little bit of chocolate on his bike. Waxr: Yeah Charles: you Waxr: ⁓ iconic stuff Ed Masters: Yeah. Anyway, good old days. Charles: Did you see, did any of you see Writer X doing that? What was the vibe? How did it happen? Waxr: I heard from a very good source, a very reliable source that Writer X was seriously intoxicated. Brown like rubbing his ass on Petey's top tune. Ed Masters: Yeah, it was a th- You Charles: you Ed Masters: You You Waxr: And after moving away from the CID bike, there was brown smudges on the top tube. Charles: You Ed Masters: Petty was there too. Roderick. Charles: ⁓ God... ⁓ Ed Masters: ⁓ right, right. Ryder Akes is an idiot. I Waxr: Ahem. Charles: Yeah, Rider X. I've seen Rider X get into some trouble. Waxr: Yeah. Ed Masters: ⁓ Waxr: He's mad. Ed Masters: Madlad. ⁓ Anyway, ⁓ yeah, so what else have we got to talk about? Waxr: ⁓ man, you're the one with the list. Charles: Yeah, we've, I'm on my things, hold on, I had some really good ones. ⁓ I did have, I did have one that actually, that if, I get asked all the time and I never really have an answer so I just fluff it off with random answers but if someone was wanting to get into pro racing, ⁓ say gravity but let's say for argument's sake, enduro, what would be your advice? ⁓ Ed Masters: ⁓ no, yeah, we've got questions, yeah. That's where we were. Waxr: I wasn't gonna say anything Charles: know what Exxon's gonna say, because he's already laughing. Okay. Don't. Ed Masters: ⁓ So everyone asks if everyone honestly if I'm giving an honest answer everyone asks and they want you to give a roadmap to the toll But the lady you the lady you start the harder it is So just go and do it like and if it if it doesn't yeah, yeah, you just got it like it's like what should I do? it's like well if you want if you want to race World Cups go and race World Cups because Waxr: Have a crack. Yeah. Ed Masters: you're not gonna win the World Cup by not being there. So like, yeah, don't like... It's kinda like a loaded question when they ask, cause they want you to... They almost want you to answer... Charles: They want the magic bullet, the silver bullet, whatever it is. Waxr: Yeah, they weren't like, ⁓ actually I know someone. Ed Masters: Yeah, but the silver bullet is turning up, having a crack, and then ⁓ molding your strengths and weaknesses or your weaknesses around what you perceive to be needed to be good, I reckon. But you can't do it by not going. Waxr: Yeah, I agree. Charles: Yeah, and even if you go and it doesn't work out, you're never gonna regret that trip. Waxr: Nah, and that's why I reckon, yeah, going in over there, doing it and just trying to enjoy it all. So regardless of if the racing doesn't go well, you still have a sick time. So it's not like you feel like you've done anything bad yet. It's not a waste. Ed Masters: Nah, yeah, yeah. Charles: It's not a waste. Yeah, that's great advice. Ed Masters: And I also, I ⁓ was listening to a podcast today and I had one takeaway which I think is very applicable to all types of like high end sport is like don't chase perfection, just try and be good. Charles: Hmm. fiction doesn't exist in mountain biking. Ed Masters: Cause nah, it doesn't exist. You're never, you're never going to feel perfect. You might one in a hundred races, you might have one or two where all the stars align, but you're never going to like, it's never going to be perfect. You're not, your runs not going to be perfect. You're not going to feel perfect. Your bike set up is not going to be perfect. So just try and be good across the board. And I reckon you'll be way better than. Waxr: Nah. Charles: Mm. Ed Masters: umming and ah-ing over like, whether it was perfect. Or whether your prep was perfect, because it never will be. Charles: Yeah. Waxr: Yeah. Charles: That's a really good point. When you look from the outside looking in, you see, for example, like Finn and Loic, I spent a bit of time with them at races and stuff. And it looks perfect when you watch it back, or sometimes it does. But when you talk to them, the whole week, they're always struggling with something. They're always not feeling good here, not feeling good there. The bike's not doing this in this place, and it's doing this here. It's literally... Ed Masters: Please. Waxr: It's. It's a battle, yeah. Ed Masters: Mm. Charles: They're just trying to get the best solution, but they're not trying to get the perfect solution. Waxr: Yeah. Well, what about for, say, you guys, when, like, say, if you've won a race, how did that feel compared to a top 10? Like, did it feel like you had the perfect race? No, it feels like you just did the same thing, but the result changed. Ed Masters: Mm. Charles: Yeah. Ed Masters: Yeah, basically. Waxr: Like, yeah. Charles: that is a very new have a pretty good the perfect run you have a head that the off-limits or you know i could have done that could be Waxr: The weird one. Ed Masters: So good. Waxr: Yeah. Yeah, always. Ed Masters: So there would be my advice. Charles: okay Waxr: Don't chase perfection, just go. Ed Masters: Yeah, no, don't try, don't try and be perfect. Just try and be good. Waxr: Hahaha Charles: Oh, here we go. One-ton man. Russell Paver. Shout out. Oh, they're supposed to be anonymous. Okay. RyderX says, um... Who would win in... Ed Masters: ⁓ is this the guy from Andorra? Charles: Who would win in a wrestle, Rupert Chapman or Gorilla? Waxr: Hahaha! Depends on the year and location. Ed Masters: ⁓ Good question. Yeah, it depends on the year and location, but 2016. Charles: alright get a bit closer to the Ed Masters: ⁓ sorry, sorry. Maybe my mic turned off. Is it on? No, we're on. Waxr: ⁓ you're good for me. Charles: ⁓ the they've got his public lot So yeah, what's the terrain? Jungle terrain? No, no. Airport terrain. Waxr: Yeah. And an airport. He's a trained pilot now, so... Yeah. Ed Masters: I'm am, I would actually, Rupert, yeah, Rupert Chapman wouldn't stand a chance, but El Chapo would go toe to toe. El Chapo would go toe to toe with a gorilla. Waxr: Yeah And get full distance for sure. Charles: ⁓ he's also got an alter ego. Ed Masters: Yeah. I've seen that guy. I've seen, yeah, yeah, that El Chapo guy is not to be messed with. Charles: That is a... that... ⁓ Robert Chairman also says he's got one, but he just says, have one. And he didn't say anything. Ed Masters: ⁓ Yeah, we've got to get him on the... We've got to get him and Kurt on the show. And maybe Tom Lois. We could have a five pack and reminisce or we could try... We do some... A bergamot... A bergamot trip down memory lane. Waxr: Hahaha ⁓ that'd be good. Charles: ⁓ I would happily sit along quietly on that one. Waxr: haha That would be a good podcast. You'd have heaps of, yeah, you'd have to have like different guest episodes, get Morgane back on it, get her picture of what it was like. Ed Masters: Hahaha! Charles: We might need more than an hour for that one. Ed Masters: Yeah. You gotta... It's ⁓ Because you forget about so much stuff because even when me and Mayling were talking about it from the first year, Mayling's got some funny as-ons. She's like, you forget all the little things and then it all comes... It slowly starts snowballing. It's pretty funny. Yeah. ⁓ Charles: you Waxr: It's flooding back, yeah. Charles: One question I do have Eddie... sorry, do you have something good? Ed Masters: No, no, you go. Charles: as one of the best videos of all time, one of my favourite mountain bike videos of all time is the spirit of Enduro, original Ed Masters creation and obviously Al Chapo is heavily involved, he's the coach, the nutritionist and something else. When you guys are filming that, fuck it must have been so much fun. Ed Masters: Yeah. Yeah, I've actually, ⁓ I'm actually planning on making a, the spirit of Enduro is going to come back. ⁓ Yeah. Actually wax you, I've got a few little ⁓ things planned, which you'll actually really enjoy coming along and watching. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So maybe. Waxr: I was about to ask, surely it's on its way. Charles: Nice. Waxr: ⁓ for sure. Count me in. Charles: While he's on the couch with his knee, this is perfect. Ed Masters: Yeah, maybe in the next couple of weeks I'm gonna get another Spirit of Enduro popping off. ⁓ Yeah, so stay tuned. Charles: Who are you going to get to film it? Waxr: You heard it hit fast. Ed Masters: ⁓ I'll just get someone just come swing off the camera because you don't really do it's not really like a high-end production that you need Yeah, yeah, it's more. mean hmm Yeah ⁓ Charles: You want it low quality, Yeah. The lower the better. Did you get any hate for taking the piss out of the Frenchies? Ed Masters: No, not really. I'm sure they hate- Well, I don't speak French, so you'd never know anyway. ⁓ Charles: so you're you're an everyone's good books no ⁓ Waxr: Surely some of the videos you've done you wouldn't be able to do today. Are you going to have tiptoe with it are you just going full on PC? Ed Masters: Yeah. Nah, nah, like I would, I would actually love... Nah, ⁓ it's, yeah. No, no, it's definitely not, it's definitely not, not PC, but like, it's not like bad. ⁓ Charles: Don't make it PC. Hahaha! It's not rude, yeah. It's not derogatory. Waxr: Hahaha. Ed Masters: But like, like case like in point, like I wouldn't be able to make ⁓ another like fat bike video. Cause I reckon you just get, you just get kind of, it's so easy for one person to make so much noise, but like, yeah, you're just poking fun at ⁓ the actual fat bikes. Like I wasn't like, but me dressing up in a fat suit, like that wouldn't really fly now. You'd get in trouble. Waxr: Nice. Charles: in trouble. Waxr: Yeah. Hope. Charles: ⁓ no, we've lost them. Alright, so this is a good one for you while we're waiting for Edie to come back. ⁓ We have, from Daniel Kalland, we have Dream Ram Raid. What would be your dream Ram Raid? Ed Masters: ⁓ no. ⁓ no! ⁓ shit. ⁓ Waxr: Aron. ⁓ the I'll bring you along. You cook on your feet. You can do it. It's perfect. Ed Masters: I think we're back on. ⁓ Charles: Eddie, we've got to have Eddie as our getaway driver. Waxr: No way, we're not getting away with he's the driver. was going to say who would you have? Nah, yeah, Yeah, Ed Marceau is driving in. I'll drive out because I'm going to be fun as. You're quick on your feet so you'd be able to pick the best stuff. Ed Masters: Hahaha Charles: Yeah, true true true. No, he's the one to drive into the store because you tell him to park out front and he would just drive in ⁓ Ed Masters: ⁓ Charles: ⁓ What shop are we doing? Waxr: ⁓ I'd go for like a... Ed Masters: Damn. Waxr: tonight maybe even just like a nice like electronic store being like cliche yeah I sushi because it's fucking expensive these days and I'm just hungry Ed Masters: Come on! Charles: I would go... Nice bakery, You can just walk in and say hey, can I have some sushi? And if they say no, just put like, oh, I'll ram-rad you and then they'll just give it to you. Might be easier, eh? Waxr: Yeah. Yeah, but it's about the story, ram writing. Ed Masters: Am I, am I, am I back now? I knew you guys were talking, I knew you guys were talking about, yeah, I knew you guys were talking about ram raids. Oh, it working again? Fuck. Bro, this is such a mess. Charles: Oh, Eddie, you're back. Yeah. You're looking like a fish out of water over there, Waxr: Yeah, you're back. Yeah, you're good. Charles: Nah, you haven't lost, we haven't lost any of the recording. now he's frozen. ⁓ talking, Eddie. ⁓ Go ahead, Wax. Waxr: Your video's frozen, I was thinking of. Russell Pagel would be good. He's got a lot of reach on him. Being able to reach like the faraway shouts is pretty easy. Charles: and he's pretty dire all day and also got a good sense of humour. Waxr: Yeah, it's a techie-gram-wide well. Charles: So ask for, and what's Eddie there for? ⁓ he's there to crash into it. But he might miss it though. Waxr: Yeah, yeah. Especially if it's a sushi joint, they're pretty small usually. Would you have to hit like each cabinet individually? Or are you just like... Charles: Yeah. And what's the circumstance, is Eddie driving with corrective lenses or not? Waxr: On its restricted license, it's after 10pm as well, it's actually illegal. Charles: ⁓ can't, yeah. And he actually can't take us, he can't take passengers, can he? Waxr: Yeah, all right now, but we've had our full license long enough, we're allowed. Yeah. Charles: ⁓ we're in the clear. It is Lost Himself from His Own Podcast. Waxr: It's having serious technical difficulties. Charles: ⁓ I reckon this is a really good question that we're gonna have to Waxr: connected. ⁓ Charles: What's that? Waxr: I was just plugging into power and it just made some funny noises. Charles: Are you there Wax? I'm Alright, the first episode I just did the whole episode myself because Eddie didn't turn himself on so I had an hour long conversation with Eddie but his half didn't upload so it's just me talking to myself for an hour with pauses. We should probably shut it, would be quite good. Waxr: Hahaha! Right. did you upload it anyway? Yeah, just upload it. Charles: But you can AI out the pauses, so it would literally just sound like I was talking to myself. Waxr: Or what about AI in any stuff and just like see if it could bounce a conversation off you. Charles: but how what would i do how would it make it easy or a i uses eddie's voice to create its own words Waxr: I know, just kind of filling the gaps. Yeah, but it might be able to like... Yeah, like filling the gaps. You might be able to kind of figure out roughly what you're talking about and then come up with like, sort of like, finger head and then replying the gaps. Charles: Mmm. I'm sure it could do that, which is kind of scary. I reckon this is a good one, this Ram Raid question, we're going to have to ask all our guests. And it probably changes heaps depending on what part of your life you're in. If it's before dinner, it's probably a different answer than if it's after dinner. Waxr: Yeah. you Yeah. ⁓ yeah, for sure. Chocolate store or a bakery. Charles: Yeah or like, is there a trail ride on the weekend? Let's ram ride at MotoStore, you know? I wouldn't mind one of those $22,000 300s. Waxr: Yeah. What are you doing this weekend? Should we ram ride some? Charles: But honestly... Yeah. I'm kidding. We might have to wrap up I reckon, Wax. Unless you got any other good stories about Edie. Waxr: And... well while he's struggling... dunno, there's almost too many of that guy, as you could imagine. Charles: is just a cc will get was to get back and quite often so she was leaving going on the couple Waxr: Yeah, I really have much going on for myself doing. Charles: I guess that's one question and people actually probably do want to know what you're up to this year. Someone just asked me on our Instagram if we could say if we're racing this year and if not what are we up to. ⁓ Waxr: Alright then I'll start and I'll say, hi, I'm Matt and I'm not racing anymore and I'm learning to fly helicopters. Charles: Ha Nice, congratulations. I hope the sobriety from racing is long and fruitful. Actually, Eddie and I have the best idea for a video. We want to get you involved. I might have already told you. We're going to set it up as like an alcoholic synonymous and we all go around and we say like how long we've been addicted to bikes and be like, ⁓ like, you know, I had my first ride when I was Waxr: Thanks, dude. Yeah. Yeah. Charles: I've just been hooked since then and it's really getting in the way of my relationships. just don't spend any time with my kids. I'm always waking up really tired with a headache like all this stuff and then we'll go and meet by the water cooler like a couple of us. We'll get Moir, Jessie, you, me, Eddie and then like two people will go after the water cooler and be like hey bro like what are you doing after this? Should we like get out there and you know like Waxr: like recovering. Yeah, I like it. Charles: get into it and then it just cuts and it's like two people just ripping a trail, oh we'll get Booker too, and then it like cuts back to the other people and they're like going to get biscuits and they're the same thing like me and Eddie are just talking like, hey bro like don't tell these guys but let's go hit Skyline later you know. And then eventually you all, what's that? Waxr: Yeah, I like it. Just make sure no brands are involved. Because that just makes sure no brands are involved because it reminds me of the e-bike video that we did. ⁓ basically Shimano came to us and we're like, hey, let's make an e-bike video. We don't really mind what the concept is. You guys go for it. So we're like, OK, yeah, all right. We get free reign or whatever we want to do. So we decide to make our e-bike video a bit of like a nose. Charles: Yeah. or I remember ⁓ this. Idiots. Waxr: Marking genius. was a great video. yeah, they're idiots for not letting it. Yeah, or idiots for not letting it. ⁓ Yeah, so we turned this concept of an e-bike video into us talking about our first time as if it was us losing our virginity. It was actually about e-biking. So we had all these like borderline sexual scenes and videos and yeah, and then turns out that they weren't a fan. Charles: No, they're idiots for trusting you. Yeah, you guys are genius. It's all right, go ahead. It would have been so fun to film that too. remember one of you was like, yeah, my first time was in the New World car park or the Pack and Save car park. Waxr: Yeah, that's me. And then I've got like this clip of me trying to put a kushka under a rear tire, it looks like I'm full just humping in the car park. Hunter Paul's actually got that. We're saying we need to just put this on the internet one day because Hunter Paul's still got, yeah, he's got the edit like sat there, pronounced ready to go. So like just bang it out there because it is good. It's just it's what it should have been. Charles: ⁓ it's so good Just leak it. Yeah. ⁓ that was so good. I think I saw the draft. ⁓ Yeah, but I reckon, yeah, no brands involved and we'll get, yeah, Booker, Jesse, Moir, Waxer. Waxr: Yeah, it's what it should have been. Charles: Masters, Murray, all the M's. And then I reckon in the last scene everyone is writing and you bump into each other and you're like, oh, oh shit. Yeah. So I reckon that'll be the next edit when we manage to get all those people together, which will probably be never, but that's all right. Waxr: ⁓ yeah. Yeah, I like that. That's good. Cool. That's a good idea. Sorry with AI these days, we can just like piece it together. Charles: Well... Yeah, it's a good idea actually. Waxr: Or you just like have your own parts. So it's like kind of happening all around the world. But the same sort of stuff. Charles: That would actually be sick, make a proper movie, make a feature-length film about being addicted. ⁓ We usually stop at an hour, so we're 50 minutes overtime and we've lost the producer. ⁓ So is there any... ⁓ sorry, I never said what I was doing with racing. ⁓ TBC, not racing, a full World Cup. I might go over and do World Champs. Waxr: Yeah, feature-length movie. My addiction. Good work. Yeah. He never turned up again. Yeah. Charles: and I want to do Trans Madeira and Trans Caledonia and Trans Cascadia and Trans Serenote but not this year. Maybe do one or two this year and then do a few more of those fun events. And make some stupid videos, that's kind of like a priority for me, Just wanna do some funny shit. Yeah. Waxr: No, it does be epic. Yeah, express yourself. Yeah. I like it. Charles: But yeah, thank you Waxers. Anything you want to leave ⁓ your guests with? Waxr: Is there even anyone listening still at this point? No, no. But cheers for tuning in. And yeah, I'll gladly be back some other time. Charles: Nah, hopefully not. That's sweet. That's very profound, thanks for sharing. Yeah, we'll get you back for sure and rest up the knee, Waxr: Yeah. Yeah, that's all I'm doing. Charles: alright cheers brother when you are when you finish don't close the screen just click leave and then they start life like maybe twenty minutes or so much love cheers mate see ya Waxr: Nice, dude. Yeah, this goes upload. Yeah, I'm on it. Later, dude.
