Jason: It's time for the Boomin Sports Cards Player of the Week, where we spotlight the athletes whose performance is making waves, not just on the field, but in the hobby as well. My name is Jason. Alongside me, as always, is Alex Ready To Go. And this week's Player of the Week is the one and only Shea Gillis Alexander. He has the smoothest moves. He's unstoppable as a scorer. He has a lead footworker. Footwork? Footworker? Alex: How's it going? Jason: His ability to get to the rim at ease, great on defense. This man is clutch. He's in the MVP conversation this year. He's already a multi-time MVP, won championship last year and he's just a great player overall. mean, he right now is pretty much the face of the league. You got anything cool about Shade that you want to throw out there, Alex? Alex: We got a fun fact about Shay. Anytime you bet on him, he will hole you. This week he hoed Jason on assist. Jason, tell us how you feel about that. Jason: I am very disappointed and I might've said some things I regret. he, yeah, I bought for him to get like four assists. And this man had like two assists at the end of the game. He had like one in the first quarter. Yeah, his current stats, he's averaging 6.7 assists and this man had two assists. Like, come on, man. The one time I bet on him, that was like my very first leg. Alex: What? What's this current set? Jason: Very last leg I added to the slip and he ruined it. But yeah, great player though. Great player. He's averaging 31.6 points. He's second in the league in scoring. 4.5 rebounds, 6.7 assists. He has a 54 % field goal percentage. So he's a very good player all around. He's odds on favorite to win a VP. He's leading the Thunder to another championship run this year. Great play overall. So now let's get into the cars. mean, this is what we came for. ⁓ your budget card, Alex? What's the car that people should buy without breaking their bank? Alex: Jason Melvys picks the good cards out the dig for mine So I picked up a tops Chrome paradox SSP is a short print card From the tops the new top series that just dropped this last year It goes for $65 just dropped 20 % this this past month PSA tennis 305 just in case you do want to get a graded $300 there's no PSA 9 record or like anything sold, but PSA 8 is going for $66. Jason: Very shiny. like the image of it. Is that water or what is it? Alex: I think so, think it's supposed to like represent splashing. Jason: Alright, that man's shot is what I guess. It's very shiny. I like that he used their black jersey and the orange jersey, not like their traditional white. So it's a very nice card. Very nice card. $65, that's not bad at all. And it's a short print, you can't go wrong with that. Alex: Yeah, it would have been a fun year. You can't go wrong with that. What do you got for your budget card? Jason: ⁓ for my budget card is a card that I pulled long time ago. So when I was getting into the hobby, I opened some random, I guess it was a Don Russ card, a Don Russ box. And I pulled this card, had no idea what it was. It's like, ⁓ it's yellow. It's cool. Carl, let's put this somewhere. years later, I got finally into the hobby after being like for the longest, like, this is too expensive. Got into the car. Then I realized, ⁓ this card is Shay and it's a It's a 2018 Don Russ 162 Yellow Flood rated rookie card. It's a dope card. It's going for $75. PSA 9 is $145. PSA 10 is $350. A lot of these cards have not sold, like recently. So there's no percentages of whether it's going up or down. It's a really nice card. I love the yellow, what's popping out. It's him in his Clippers jersey, which is... understandable because he later moved on to the OKC Thunder. It's a really nice card. I love it. I wish mine was in a better condition or else I would have graded it. But I love this card for seventy five dollars. I don't think you can go wrong with this rated rookie Shea. Alex: Yeah, Jason showed me the card a couple of months back and I was like, yeah, I see a lot of whitening and I think it was the centering is off too, right? Jason: I think it was just the corners that was messed up. Alex: I think I heard Jason allow and I told him that I could like an eight and he's like great Jason: Yeah, like it's a really nice card. I love the yiel that pops out and it's unfortunate because I had it pretty much just shoved in a box somewhere. Alex: And then no one in the quarters of it Jason: Yeah, like I had no clue what a top loader was back then. Yeah, yeah, no idea. I think I had it a binder at one point too. So it's been all over the place, but now it's in a. It's a PC card nowadays. It's not one that I'll probably sell. That's my origin card, you know? We all have that origin card. It's like the first card that I pulled that was kind of decent value. Alex: You just like sleaze in top orders? What the hell is that? She is in better days. This is the card he passed his dentist kid. Jason: Yeah, be like, who say he's a free throw merchant? Alex: It's a free throw merchant and a Canadian. Jason: It's a free throw version. Yeah, right. Now, let's go to the high end of the spectrum of Shay Gillies cards. What's that card that you would buy if you had, I don't know, a couple thousand dollars? What's that card of the reigning MVP that you'll buy? Alex: Um, I had to make it like because you put a wrench for 150 so I started there So I picked up his um So I looked up this card and if you asked why it doesn't have the rc on it when it's his rookie card It's the prison pinini the pink ice one Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: I guess it's the manufacturing error. They forgot to put the RC on there. It's considered his true rookie card Not his true rookie card thing the time us is true. Okay, but this card is considered a rookie card But they just forgot it and I think ⁓ one of the reasons why this card so expensive because it's also a manufacturer error which It's kind of cool Jason: Gotcha. I did not know that. Yeah, because I always look at that card and it's going for a lot. I'm like, what's this random prism? But yeah, it's a rookie. Because I know Cam Ward has something similar to that in one of the... Alex: Yeah, the mosaics. We saw this card, we the base card at the show and Jason's like, man, that's an ugly card. Jason's like, man, that's an ugly card. I don't know, it's not even a rookie card. I was looking at it is a rookie card, Jason. It's not ugly, but I guess. Well, yeah, it's a raw 140 PSA 10, 600 bucks. So you still can get a chance to get. Jason: I don't even know half the time what I'm saying. Alex: the free throw merchant card under $1000 which is not bad and then the PSA 9 158 which is not bad either so if you were in the market of getting something that you were thinking to grow in the next couple years either get a 10 or a 9 and if you're like on a budget get a 9 158 is not bad for a pink one Jason: Yeah, it's a nice card and Shae's part of that young core of the OKC Thunder who's gonna probably win like at least one more championship before it's all said and done. Yeah, it could be this year. This year they have a fantastic roster and Shae's at its MVP level once again. I love the pink around it. The cracked ice. I've always enjoyed the cracked ice. Prism. I really wish they had that rookie logo. Something about that rookie logo distinguishes it from actually being... Alex: be this year. Jason: rookie but it's a nice card I wouldn't mind buying it 140 isn't too bad of a price Alex: But it makes it better knowing that the malfunction on it, like a little print error. Jason: Yeah, I guess. I like CRC. Alex: He likes the RC. He likes the RC drink. Jason: I yeah, I love me some RC, some soda, some pop. Yes, sir. Yes, we went expensive chat. We went with the Shades like Xander 2025, tops chrome, ultraviolet all stars numbered UV nine. This kind of cards I love. Like I've seen these cards of so many players. Obviously they're so expensive and. Alex: some soda. Once you got fresh Jason, cause looking at it, it looks fantastic. Jason: But it's a really nice card. The colors pop out. Shae's like pretty much like cartoonish. It's not animated. It's not like an anime kind of thing, like a manga card, but it's like him like pretty much like, what's that? What do you call it? It's just like a picture of him, but it's not actually him. I don't know how to explain it, but it's a dope card. Really pops out, has his full name. Thunder Colorways. Raw is 500. It's down a 9.1%. There's only a PSA 8 right now on eBay and on the market. It's selling for $4.75 but that was on bid a couple days ago when I was making this paper. There's no PSA 9s, no PSA 10s that have sold because it's such a new card but it's a really nice card and I don't think you can go wrong with this card because it's a if I was an OKC Thunder fan or diehard Shea fan this is a card that I would want easily for the PC. Alex: for the PC. Yeah, would. Man, like I know deploying these cards are hard as like hell. So imagine getting one of these and just buying it for 500 is not that bad. And if you do try to grade it yourself, like there's no nine or 10, getting a nine, probably double it. And then getting a 10, probably triple it like at least 15 or $2,000. And that'd be a great investment if you do get a 10 or nine. something you keep forever and if he does get another MVP or championship that's gonna just triple your money or double it. Jason: Yeah, yeah, very nice card and I think he's a great player to buy. I would look to invest in him. I have, yeah, just that yellow flood card, but there's so many cards out there of his that I wouldn't mind grabbing because he's a fantastic player. He has his, his games really can surpass like his age. Like he's, he's not too flashy. He's a great passer. Unfortunately, didn't get that four assists a couple nights ago. Alex: No. Jason: But he is a great player and he's fundamental. He can fit any system and he's going to be in the game for a while. So buying his rookie cards, buying his high end cards is a great investment right now. Alex: Yep, um, what I don't want, I think this would have been my first choice though for $500. I'd probably call like what are like a rookie card for me. What, what are you going to do with it? If you had a, if I had $500, I would. The rookies are overrated, Jason. Well, he says it's overrated, it's not overrated in opinion. That's going to wrap it up this week for Player of the Week featuring Shay, Gilgis, and Alexander. Jason: Nah. Rookies are overrated. Hell yeah. Alex: If you enjoyed this pod, don't forget to follow the show, share with another collector, and stay tapped into Boomi Sports for new episodes every week. Jason: See ya. Alex: Thanks for watching, see you guys around.
