Jason: Welcome, all collectors to another episode of Boomin' Sports Cards, the podcast where the hobby stays hot and the card stays boomin'. I am one of your hosts, Jason. Alex: and I'm Alex, today we'll be discussing the ways to make sports cards collecting fun again, less about the numbers. So let's get right into it, shall we? Jason: Let's do it. It feels like every time you open social media or walk into a card show, the first thing you are talking about is value, comps, grading, flipping, what's going up next. Platforms like eBay and grading companies such as professional authenticators have made it easier to track prices, but at the same time, that kind of shifted the focus of the hobby. What used to be about collecting your favorite players, ripping packs for fun and building something personal has slowly turned into the numbers game. And don't get me wrong, it's nothing about making money in the hobby. But when every card is judged about resale, it takes away what made collecting fun the first place. So in this episode, we're taking a step back and talking about How to ⁓ enjoy the hobby without feeling like every move has be an investment and how to build a collection actually means something to you. So the hobby has felt really investment driven. mean, there's so many things. mean, grading, PSA 10s, resale. Why do you think the hobby is so investment driven now compared to like, I don't know, growing up with cards? Alex: Uh, I think it's the social, like with, with technology growing, we're constantly seeing things thrown in our face. TikTok, Instagram, anything social media wise. Like, uh, say you get this card and, it's $300. I can sell this $300 and make some money back for the, like, spending some packs. like, um, it's a, I'm not saying opening cards is a form of gambling, but it is in a way if you're trying to look for a certain card just to sell it and opening up a certain amount of packs to get that card, wasting a large money money. Say you waste a hundred bucks on a bunch of pack of cards, hoping that you get a $300 card. That's gambling. So overall, yeah, overall just having, and I want to be honest, I think it's the like how everything is with the like economy and everything. People are always trying to find another way to make money. So having Jason: Yeah, definitely. Alex: Having this thrown in your face, oh, this card's $300. I can make $300 off this. And this is how I did it by looking for this card in packs, you know? Jason: Yeah, definitely. And like we joked around like, hey, I don't invest into the stock market, but I invest with cards. I feel like that's very relevant today because people buy cards that are not even fans of the player or. Or that car design just to make money off of it. So it's there's always like that pressure to win every purchase in every flip. So that's that's how I feel that the hobby is very investment driven. Alex: Yeah, me and me. Jason: ⁓ Another thing is like, comparing collections. I know a lot of people always competitions like, ⁓ that guy has Wemby card, I'm gonna pick up that Wemby card too. So like, getting into that, that's also like takes away from the fun of the hobby. Alex: Yeah, it's always like a, who has a better card than like everybody else in the room, but, but comparing cards and collections, it's going to be exhausting. So imagine just doing that all the time. It's no longer going to be fun in my opinion. But, let's, we're going to head to our next part of it where, look what you actually like. I know Jason likes to get him out and get on me about it, but I do not like Matt Chapman. ⁓ guys, I do not like Matt Chapman. He just re re. Jason: No fun. That's all he collects guys. He's secretly a mad champion guy. Alex: No, it's I know I just have like a collection stowed away under my bed and when nobody's around I giggle and look at his cards. No, a couple of pinders of history. Jason: You couple of binders. He really didn't sell that match at McArt. It's really just in his collection. Alex: It's in a box. It's in a safe somewhere, you know? I just, I just mailed the card back to myself. Um, but, um, yeah. Uh, like right now a big person I'm collecting right now is Luis and Jalucuña. know some of these are gonna like, you guys kind of garbage. I'm like, he is kind of garbage, but, um, I do take pride in like collecting Hispanic players and he's on the Wysox right now. So it kind of like worked out itself because I think. Before he got into the White Sox, he was in the Mets. started collecting because the cards are cheap and liked the, his whole like, ⁓ skillset everywhere online. And then eventually he got to the White Sox. like it kind of pandered it out. It worked out for him. Jason: Yeah, collect what you like. mean, these players don't have to have like the biggest profile. Not every player has to be your Tom Brady's, your LeBron's. Like Alex said, yeah, Luis Angel Acuna is not the biggest star out there, but that's someone who he enjoys, someone who he likes his game his character overall. So yeah, collect what you like. I know ⁓ I collect, mostly PCA. I know he's a big name, but he's a fun player to watch. And the cards I have of his is not the most expensive. They're not $50 cards, not $60 cards. They're like a couple of five bucks, but it's not about the price point of those cards. It's just having that player in my collection but there's also like teams. I know both are from Chicago, Illinois area. So any Bears players, any White Sox players. Even Bulls are part of our collection and they're a pretty bad team. So they're not in many people's collections, like nationwide. Alex: Yeah, I don't have a Patrick Williams card, so don't... No one does. Please. Jason: No one does. I rather disrespect that one guy who collects Patrick Williams than to be like, bro. Alex: good on you you you got the not the world's best player but the one of the cheapest cause you can get it yeah Jason who what well you said PCA and I have some PCA cards and always trying to buy them off me but he'll never get them because ⁓ Jason: I'm gonna get PCA, PCA, PCRO. Yeah, PCA, who else do collect? Just like, Braden Montgomery. I have a couple of cards of his. I know he's going crazy right now. But like, PCA is probably like the biggest guy besides like, Drake May. Alex: He's not a bad player, I can tell. Drake May. Um, but yeah. Jason: Yeah, but lot of... Yeah, personal collection. Just stick to personal collecting. That would make it fun overall, not just look at the numbers. Another way to make it fun is just build your collection with creativity. I mean, you can get theme based. I know there's like cards or like it's like cherry blossom themed or like it's like completely pink. So I know I've seen a couple of collectors do that. So like find themes if you're interested in dragon scales, or collect only dragon scales. So there's a lot of ways to get creative in your collection. Alex: You can also, don't remember. was a, Calpo who said that he collects multi-sweat ⁓ cards you got like your rainbow. Yeah. Jason: Yeah, the rainbow. I've seen a lot of people do that and that looks amazing. Like if you see it like in like their displays, it looks really cool. Alex: Does it look really nice? It just You gotta like I'm gonna be I want to be honest. You gotta pick a player. That's not expensive. I know If you're a Caleb Williams fan, trying to do the rainbow You're gonna you're gonna taste the price of the dollar spill sleeping something out of your wallet But if you pick a certain player, that's not really Not as a like like not really the best you're gonna you'll be able to achieve those moments where You can get the whole rainbow Jason: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I've seen people collect local athletes who are pretty cheap and they go on social media looking for that specific card which is like five out of ten or something like that, like a numbered card. But it's all about the hunch as well sometimes. Not everything comes out easy, so if you can find a rainbow of some other guy, some guy you want, and work on it for a long period of time, it's worth it. It makes it fun. ⁓ looking through eBay like every other day, see if that card that you need for your collection is available. That makes it fun overall. Alex: The just takes out the the competition the price point is overall Like a scavenger hunt that you could do Save I'm searching like the thing I got the other day was it for not a lot of the day It like a while back around November. I did get up a mirror staying a glass mirror of a loose on her Acuna from the Bowman River baseball and it was what I could consider a case hit Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: but nobody finds it favorable, but it's still a case. I still like it and something different. You're going to end up finding like different case heads that nobody really wants. You can find like a certain price and then, and you're gonna be like, Oh cool. I got a downtown of this. got a stained glass of that. I've got these players. These aren't the best players, but these are my favorite players or something that you find not like your favorite players, but like more of the something you like to collect. Jason: Mm-hmm. Another way you can make it creative is like collect specific sets or like designs. Like Alex said, imagine if you collect all the stained glasses out there. Yeah, it'll be really expensive. But when you put that on those binders or put it in a display, that'll look really cool. Like I'm right now collecting the blackout series of tops NBA basketball. It's taking me a while because it's over 300 cards, but I'm only like 30 cards away. I recently bought a whole lot of cards. And it takes me a while, but I know it's going to look super cool when I get every single card. And it makes it unique. mean, I'll have that for a while. Who knows if later on I want to sell it and I actually care about the money. I can sell it, but right now it'll just look super cool having all those in a binder. And it'll remind me of a cool time where cards were popping and that specific set coming out was so popular. ⁓ Yeah, so that's another thing, just designs and sets. mean, Alex, did you collect any of these like sets in particular? Alex: when started first starting out I started collecting NBA hoops pinini They had the license because NBA hoops is owned by the NBA. they whoever has a license ⁓ They just it to them. So opinion you had a license at the time Spent about Not a lot of like I expect the boxer relatively cheap 25 bucks a box blaster combo with 90 cards you can did that for a little bit while and then I eventually collected the whole set. various, had various different, ⁓ colors, ⁓ numbered cards. I got some autographs of ⁓ rookies. I did finish the whole binder. ⁓ So like of the, ⁓ probably one the things I really like about it, that I finished it on my own and it took a while and I didn't even buy any cards online. I think I mostly did it through collecting the cards through the boxes. So. Like I said down one through one through a hundred, like, right, what am I missing? And then you just fill the up on the binder. Jason: That's awesome, because you look back a couple years from now and be like, damn, this dude was in the NBA in 2024. This is random. yeah, having that, collecting designs and sets are pretty cool. Another thing I've seen people do is collect misprints. There's a lot of cards that are weirdly cut or just different from what's out there. I've seen a of people do that. So there's a lot of ways to get creative. Alex: Um, yeah, I think one of my thing that makes me not unique, but I like collecting extractors. Jason knows a little bit extractors. He's always telling me to go buy some more. And he's always telling me like, which ones are out there. That's one of my big things. I have like a whole stack of extractors in my little case that I like collecting. Um, for me, I just think they're valuable and overall history on it. Like, uh, if you're a player does really well, championship MVP, the extractor goes up with it, but I like extractors because I always think that are like a little harder. Well, for me, they're not really hard, but there's something different for everything. Everything else. So, so when collecting these cars, we got to set a set, a personal goal, not financial ones, but something to complete the set, ⁓ a full rainbow of the player, collect every card, expect athlete. These goals create purpose beyond money. well, you had to start over Jason, what player would you choose to start with? Jason: Tom Brady, because that's like favorite lawyer of all time, and I'm a big football guy. But if I want to go like more fun and like ⁓ less about the money and expensive, I'm trying to think. ⁓ Maybe someone like Allen Iverson. he was someone who's like a dope player that his cards aren't too expensive. His rookie cards are cheap. Alex: Mm. Jason: And he's, I bet there's a lot of cool cards out there because he was a really cool player. So I think Allen Iverson would be like a cool player to collect all of his cards and maybe like even make a rainbow out of his cards. How about yourself? Alex: Man like I would have to think of somebody I would say Devin Hester because ⁓ He's one of my favorite place. He's probably the reason I started watching the Bears Another one would be Like the reason other reason why is this overall? He's a cool guy. He seems like something that Is like like I don't know how to explain if it's somebody cool. I'll probably look through Tops cards eventually or look through the prison cards and try to get like a rainbow of his Jason: Mmm, that's a good one. Alex: I don't think his would be expensive because he's no longer in the league. his accolades are pretty good, not good enough to the point where there is quadra expensive. So. Jason: Yeah, another one I would say like Erlacher. Growing up, Erlacher was a guy in Chicago. I mean, even now there's billboards of his of his hair, not not his bald head anymore of his hair. But yeah, setting personal goals one day, you can just start up a binder of your favorite player and just start collecting because these players, like like we mentioned, don't have that many expensive cards. And if you can get like cool parallels of them, that makes it fun. Alex: Yeah. Jason: If you go to a local shop, get a couple of two dollar cards or something like that and put in a binder and then next thing you know, do you have a big collection of Devon Hester of of Alan Iverson? So, yeah, setting goals is very important. And makes it fun. Yeah, because not everything has to be a big purchase. Like like we mentioned, don't make it about the money. Yeah, there's time, there's time and place to make it about the money. But trying to have fun. Cut your guys, you know. Alex: Clutch your guys. Jason: So now let's move on to mixing the fun with smart collecting Like I mentioned just you can go in two lanes. You can do your investing You can put your cards into your investment like section and cards for PC your personal collection something you want to make fun of Make fun of not actually make fun fun your fun stack like obviously this this hobbies all about money So you can, you can stick, stick into investing, but make it fun. Have your players that you like. And yeah, just collect what you like. Alex: For example, I picked up a Bobby with jr Purple did make fun of me a little bit because it's off centered. I told him it was for the PC What you tell me Jason the other day? I was funny. I looked at you funny. I was like really Jason I forgot what it You text me about it, but it was like the centering But I'm not really mad about it. I generally like Bobby with jr. He seems like a cool guy I watched a couple videos about him the other day He collecting cards himself, which is pretty cool. Um, and for me, in order for me to separate what is, uh, what do call it? PC versus like what I don't really want or like investment wise. Uh, I usually put it in my big binder of like special cards. like either I want to get them graded and keep them for myself or I'll eventually just like, uh, leave it in there. I like shiny things and I like to look at them when I have the chance. Jason: Yeah, like in my like, whatever, my suitcase of cards. I have it separated where it's like my more expensive cards and like the players I collect. So got the PCA, I got the Chicago teams. I have all that separated because I like to look at that like Alex said and there's cards that I'll eventually move or don't have that much personal connection to that player. So I'd say it's very important to separate those two and it makes it It makes it fun just looking at what cards you actually care about and ones that are more about investment or more long Alex: wonder if I'm like if it like everybody just like shiny things and that's what it is. Everybody's just part bird. My god shiny shiny card Jason: Yeah, like, like, like people like I feel like people aren't fan of these players sometimes where it's like, like who's a good player, like people collect. ⁓ Yeah, I don't see I've never met a Jason Tatum collector. ⁓ But I'm trying to think there's players out there like I'm like you collect that guy and you have like a big card of his. Like, do you really care about that player? Alex: Jason Tatum. Yeah. So few. Jason: you're someone follows that team, you shouldn't be buying that player. I'm trying to think of a player like that. Alex: Like somebody like good and then like, ⁓ like you wouldn't really expect somebody to collect them or what do mean? Jason: Yeah, like there's certain players where it's like, they're good, but like, why do you, are you investing or why do you have a card that's like worth $600 of that player? Alex: Jalen Hurts. Hurts, that's it is. Jason: I guess so. He's not that likable, but he did win a championship with them. not bad show. I don't know. CJ Stroud, I don't know. He's turning into a bump, but I know there was a lot of hype around him. Alex: Travis Kelsey. is like, don't understand if like, if you have like a Kaboom of Seizure Shred and you want to keep it, I guess, like it's, you're like, whoa, whoa, you hope he doesn't turn around, but I usually like, oh, it's a nice card. I never had a Kaboom. Like, right. I get it. Like for me, I have a, I had an Anthony Black from the Magic Kaboom. I don't even like him that much. I sold it. Cause I was like, I don't like him that much. Jason: Yeah, like that. Anthony Vleck. mean, who's behind that card? Unless you're an Orlando Magic fan I don't know, because... Alex: You believe in the future, I guess. Jason: I guess so. That's what I found strange. Like, yeah, maybe that's an investment, but like who's investing on Anthony Black? But that's not a player you collect for fun. That's not a PC player. That's more ⁓ the numbers game, in my opinion, if you have that in your collection. Alex: Yeah, this only did that buy it off for me before like 500 bucks. So so well but I feel like Yeah, but I feel like the people who buy this stuff also do flip it though like breakers and I like all this stuff So like I feel like one of these days i'm gonna be passing about like throw a breaker Breakers thing and i'm just watching and i'm gonna see all it's the card I got guys It's the same card. I got I just sold that to him and he flipped it off Jason: Yeah, it's for the numbers game, Mm-hmm. I mean, like that Matt Chapman, like that Matt Chapman, like for the longest you couldn't sell it because he doesn't have fans until a San Francisco Giants fan came around who actually wanted it. that's what I find strange. yeah, like who's collecting who wants to spend $250 on Matt Chapman? Alex: Yeah Matt Chapman himself was probably him. He's like, you know what? Screw it. I'll buy my own card. Jason: Yeah. Yeah. So so collect what you like. Have your personal have your ⁓ have your investment stack. Separate Obviously, don't go too crazy on your ⁓ on your investment stack. Alex: Don't go zero in the wallet, guys. ⁓ Jason: Yeah, don't be buying some of these bombs. People spend $500 for a case hit and later the player just dies. Alex: Yeah, at the end of the day, the hobby is what you make it. Not every card needs to be flipped. Not every move needs to be about value. The best collections are built on what you enjoy, just not what market says. So take a step back, collect what you love. And remember, the fun is what keeps the hobby alive. That is true. generally like collecting cards and I like hanging out with Jason, the time to. Jason: Yeah, cause I bet it can get stressing when you want the specific card and so much money that it takes away the fun from it. And then you have it and you're like, nice, we have it in my collection. Where's the joy in that? Yeah, so bring the joy back to the collecting overall. Stop caring too much about the numbers. Start collecting rainbow color cards. I don't know. Find something fun that makes you enjoy the hobby. Alex: Where's the join like? Jason: So now let's turn into a collector's corner. So we got a couple of stuff coming around. Um, so Alex, what's on your radar for these, for this week? A lot of stuff happened around sports. got the draft coming up. We got the NBA playoffs, hockey. I don't know if we're into hockey like that, but like a lot of stuff going around. What's, what's on the radar of players? Alex: Got Jackson Dart picked up a purple shock for like 20 bucks and the thing with him is that these guys just got more draft pigs freaking traded the Sexy Dexies of angles and they gave him more traffic. So this guy has more draft capital So he's gonna have a lot more younger younger core to have around him For the Giants and these guys have hardball Camp and then neighbors. So overall this team is does not gonna look bad in next couple years Jason: Not bad, yeah. I also have all second year quarterbacks in general, like Darge, Cam Ward, Shuck. I don't know about Shador. He's like a really weird player in my opinion. I have a couple of his decent cards, like 10-15 bucks of his, but I'm not too convinced that he'll keep the job. Alex: I think he needs a better team. Let's see how this goes because you got a new coach. barely. Okay, take from him to get a new coach because Jason: Yeah. He likes the coach likes him, but like there's a lot of quarterbacks. Like I know there's rumors that the Sean Watson might even start for them. Yeah. Cause cause like they're already paying him so much they want to get his value worth. So he might start, but I don't know about, I wouldn't invest in a Shador overall. I feel like Darge Ward and Shuck is very Alex: What? Cheryl Watson? Jason: They have lot of potential to take that lead because they're the number one guys cemented overall. I also, yeah. Alex: I give you time and like freaking Watson's and again trouble again. They're gonna have to put a shadow back in Jason: Yeah, more massage parlors. Yeah, darts, I need to get more of his because I barely have. I think I have like two cards and they're like two or three dollar cards of You got anyone else? Alex: Yeah. ⁓ victor wimby, she got her put ⁓ know i'm just I just need jason give me those victor wimby cards because ⁓ he Victor's not doing good right now. So maybe Just hand them off jason like, you know, she don't have to pay for it ⁓ Jason: It's in my whole flow. I also have them. know. Nah, he's doing great. Man, he was the first unanimous defensive player of the year and the youngest overall. This man is killing it. Obviously, I mean, recently he got concussed, which is really random. I didn't even see the play. I'd heard he just smacked his head on the floor. Alex: I saw it earlier. looked like he tripped but like, don't know. Pardon me. I don't know. It's probably me. I'm short. Pardon me. I feel like I catch myself because how long his arms are. And I like I would catch myself for hitting the ground. But at the same time, I feel like I'd break my arm at the same time trying to catch myself. But overall, the way he landed, his bottom hit the ground and he bounced off the ground twice. That's hitting his chin. Jason: Yeah. What? Alex: And it, I mean, he couldn't get up for a second. was like, okay, I get it now. Jason: Yeah, yeah, I agree. I want to catch myself. I feel like the only way maybe you fall backwards and Yeah, it's unexpected. But yeah, that's strange. didn't I gotta see that play So one B. Yeah, one B is a good guy. I just picked up his cards as Rookie of the Year card and some like blue Mosaic card. It's pretty cool. It's like worth like 20 bucks, but just a dope card Alex: It's not bad. I actually showed me earlier and I was jealous and I'm like Jason just give me your wemby card. Then he told me no. last one I had Sam. How do say that guy from the white slacks, the Italian guy and Tochi. Yeah. Yeah. I've been seeing clips of him and I was trying to figure out like how much of his cards were, but, they're not that bad. I he was getting one. Yeah. Just in case that he does pop off and like get one before the prices shoot up. But. Jason: took forever to grab. ⁓ Antonocchi? Yeah, Sam Antonocchi. The Italian, man. Alex: Yeah, that's that and then trying to see what else have been like it's just like all I think about is cards with ages and like I talked Jason about cards He sends me cards and I'm like Jason cards cards cards and he's and he's like And he tells me like Alex car car cars and like yeah, I like carcass cards Jason: It's a dope player. More cards. How many more cards? Yeah, another guy that I'm looking at is ⁓ Ashton Junty. I feel like that team's gonna be nice I think he's gonna have a really good season. I really want to draft him in fantasy probably gonna steal it from me now ⁓ he's a dope player. I think with that new coach who's coming from the Seahawks who ran the ball the shadow the ball on the Bowl and rookie quarterback, I know Alex: Thanks. Jason: Kirk Cousins probably gonna start so he will still help him overall but I think Ashton Jensen is gonna have a great year. Another guy, one more last guy that I got. A guy I really gotta buy VJ. I don't know if you saw his performance last night. Alex: Mm. He was killing them. He was killing them Boston. Jason: Yeah, like 30 points. I don't know if I should buy now. Is this market's probably going up or do I buy in the offseason? Because I'm pretty sure the Sixers are going to get first rounded. Alex: see us like what's the second game and the third game? Third game we gotta see how the third game goes. These guys are putting up a fight But we gotta wait till the last game if these guys get one first-rounded. Yeah Everybody's in that. Well shit prices are gonna be high right now because one ⁓ just released a new product with him in it So all his cards are high again to Off season people gonna be like, yeah, I need to get this guy before the in the future Jason: Mm-hmm Alex: because he's gonna be the future for the 76ers. Yeah, so eventually these cards are gonna be higher in general. So you might have found out like, you have to find something that you like, something you like and something that's not an arm and a leg. Jason: Yeah. I don't know, I gotta figure that out. Yeah, yeah, I was thinking about getting his fanatical that's like 50 bucks But yeah, I can see that going on cuz like the It was it the coopers one for like 300 his fanatical Alex: to be like 100 bucks each day. He's gonna shoot up if he wins the rookie of the year. Jason: Yeah, no doubt all those cars gonna go up. Alex: I did have one more Jacob Moroski from the Brewery. She's doing well thinking about getting him some cards. His cards are cheap. His auto is $125 I saw the other day at the show, but I think it's like going for like a hundred bucks. So I probably can get one for a hundred bucks online. But he's one of the guys that I want to get. On the last guy, Brock Bauer. think Brock Bauer is going to have a better year because he's going have Fernando and I think him and Fernando are going to do really well. Jason: I'll be. Alex: I won't be taking Jenny for you because I do not want to get screwed over again by my fantasy god so ⁓ fantasy god screw Jason over. Jason: Is it gonna be a tank? No, yeah, I like the the Browers pull. He's not the most like valuable player you can pick up right now, but he's gonna be a lot of targets because that wide receiver core is pretty bad. There's like no one that you want in your fantasy team. Probably draft a wide receiver or two, but I like that Bowers. Alright, another guy probably Colson Loven sitting with a tight end. Alex: Goodyay Silver's fantasy guards. you Jason: ⁓ he's gonna be a tank. Yeah him lovelin and ⁓ buethor bergen they're gonna be great now with dj more out of that wide receiver one He's kayla's got the target more guys Alex: Love him. Who do you think is the wide receiver one though? Is that Rom or Luther? Jason: It's gotta be wrong. mean, just based on experience. he gets more targets. Because last year he started the year really hot. The first like two or three weeks he was doing great. And then after that he was nowhere to be found. Alex: He was on a pace to like break a Bears record, but I guess he got hurt and I just hope that he's not freaking injury prone to the point where His dad starts talking crap a lot of me talking crap Only yearly your your son is fucking hurt. I need him to get on the fucking field Jesus Christ Jason: Yeah. Yeah, he talks a lot of crap. Yeah, he'll be good. Very true. Alright, so now let's move on to experiences. So like I mentioned earlier, I am almost done with my blackout NBA top set. I need 33 more cards. Almost there. About like a 30 lot through Colex. And I've looked through them. I need a couple more rookies. It's mainly rookies that I need, but like they're not too expensive. Alex: the bed. Jason: Like any like Ace Bailey and like his cards like four bucks. like. need to get a couple more of those guys. I'm almost done. I'm trying to finish it by probably like the end of next month. Try to complete that whole set. Another ⁓ I Tops NFL Chrome. We both did actually. It was an OK product. He's a Patriots guy. I also pulled those cams, scatable leather, leather parallel. Just another dope card. It was kind of weird. I was like, these leather parallels, are they really this common? So if you do go to Walmart, random to see it, you are in luck. so we went to Lids. This always has the cards. ⁓ we went to Lids, got a bunch hangers. called tech Jason. Hey, do you want some? And I was like, of course I couldn't get anybody else out of 99 except this guy. I knew, I feel like there's a camera somewhere and I'm looking around like, all right, who's fucking with me? But then I got like a Polestar of a Do Carter worth six bucks. And then all the players were nothing good. Um, we said $40 and I was like, and then I was like disappointed. Jason: They're made. Yes. Alex: So I'm waiting the, so next time I see Jason, I'm going to give him singers and I know to God, I know that God Jason's gonna pull some stupid crap out. And I'm like, do you work for Tops or something? Do know what's inside these bags of Jason? He won't tell me. Cause Jason: I'm gonna pull a Jackson to our McCall it now. So i'm not he's like I don't do cops i'm like, ⁓ pretty cool Just fuck me. Fuck me. Okay, cool but overall show nice cards ⁓ Jason: second. Alex: I scouting for Shohei, Caleb, et cetera. saw a Caleb out of 99. And I wish I had $400 because when we checked the price, it was going for like $400. But my dad said he checked car letter and he said the latest prices were like 450, 500. And I was like, damn, this guy has this shit underpriced. I wish I just said $400. But yeah, that's the card show. I didn't really get anything out of it. Spent $3 to get in looking for cards and everything was gone. Last thing I experienced, we all love Joe Filson, right? Alex: Um, let see, I think I sent you the other day, but, um, I'll send it to somebody, but he has a, an idea that, um, in order for everybody to start enjoying the hobby more, instead of them having like cards flip and like boxes get flipped is that, uh, retailers or like shops. Um, so like a manufacturer send boxes to the shops, but the shops have to vow to not. Oversell them at, they have the sell them at a certain price. So instead of what the market says, sell them at a retail price or whatever it So what is it? Oh, MSRP, right? So sell the MSRP what they're supposed to be designated something fair for everybody to buy the boxes. Um, and if they do that, they'll get a larger allocation of the boxes, but they have to promise two things. One, when they receive the boxes, they slice each box open. Jason: Yeah. Alex: And take the wrapper off so no one can resell the boxes. And then two, keep the boxes fair. which stop from everybody from like selling, reselling stuff ⁓ from just stopping the whole price gouging. Cause my dad, ⁓ yeah, my dad bought two hubby boxes for the top screw and he got crap out of them. My dad got the, ⁓ my mom a. Jason: ⁓ I've seen that, yeah, yeah. Really? He's like backup to Gino's and he's a rookie also. And then my mom had his camo. I think he, people were assuming that he's in the future because somebody sold that car for 200 bucks. And then the rest of the camos that in the head are the his. Jason: Yeah. had. Alex: People can't sell it now because nobody really wants it. So it has to be that certain judge fan. I'm like, ⁓ make it a camel of this. Jason: That's insane. Yeah, people will straight from release. They buy players for crazy prices. Alex: But back to like the main point is that they bought those boxes for $1,600 and then you get crap. And that was from Lids, by the way. Lids sold that for $800 each. And I know, right? You'd think Lids would sell it for like $400. Which is weird because they the Tops Chrome basketball for $500 a couple months ago. They can't do the same crap for football. Bullcrap. Jason: Damn. Jesus. Yeah. Alex: ⁓ yeah, the overall thing is that Jeff Olson's asking, like bringing up the idea that slashing, ⁓ slashing price, slashing those little covers on the box. So nobody, nobody can reflip them. People get more boxes, things will be more fair. Everybody was roasting him in the comments, Jason. ⁓ my goodness. Everybody was on his ass in the comments and he was replying to each one. like the balls on this guy. He does not give a crap. One guy was like saying that a gesture doesn't put your money where your mouth is and do the same thing at your store. He's like, I'm thinking about it. Like, yeah, come on. Yeah, come on, bro. You're not supposed to tell anybody. Jason: He's not gonna do it. It's a good idea because like even like local shops that they they upcharge so much on day of release. So if like TOPS makes it an incentive where like we'll get you more product but just be fair to these consumers. It'll make the hobby more healthy overall. Alex: Like one. That'd be nice. Like I can get a hobby box for a nice hobby. I have $300. That'd be fine. I know somebody's like 300. I don't know. Like somebody's like, they like hearing this right now. $300 for how you like this creating like, imagine the thousand dollars Jason: Yeah. Yeah, because not everyone's a reseller, man.
