Ashton McGrady: we're here. We're here, we're here, we're here. ⁓ What? Kailey Waskall: Can I tell you something crazy? I think I am gonna go get avocado toast after this. Ashton McGrady: me influencing her to eat avocado toast. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, no, I really want it so bad now I think there's this avocado toast that they put like pickled onions on it I have a dream Yeah, Ashton McGrady: Ooh, make pickled red onions and eat it on a lot of stuff. yeah, that heal me right now, but unfortunately, here we are. I'm snowed in. Kailey Waskall: I have I will see if I can get my car out. That's my curse of the week. We'll talk about that in a second. Ashton McGrady: That's... scared. Things aren't looking good over here in North Carolina, not gonna lie. Kailey Waskall: I'm looking at the tiny, dragon on my desk and I'm like looking at him for Yeah, he's lock in girl. ⁓ Why are you sweating? Ashton McGrady: moral support. Why I sweating? ⁓ Ew. pits sweaty I have deodorant on. I like anti-perspirant Why am I perspiring? ⁓ Kailey Waskall: Are you nervous? Ashton McGrady: Maybe on a date and feeling kind of nervous. Well, that, ⁓ on let's not talk about my sweaty pits and let's talk accessible beauty. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: On that note. Beauty was never designed with disabled people in mind, but we're here anyways. Ashton McGrady: I'm Ashton, Disabled Beauty Creator. Kailey Waskall: and I'm Kaylee, an occupational therapist. Ashton McGrady: And this is Accessibly Ever After, where we talk all things accessible beauty, inclusive design, and what it really means to make beauty work for real people. Kailey Waskall: We start every episode with our crown and curse of the week, which is also known as something really good that happened to us this week and something really bad that happened to us this week. So Ashen, I'm gonna shoot it over to you and I'm gonna let you pick. Do you wanna do your crown or your curse first? Ashton McGrady: I feel like I want to start with my curse because to nobody's surprise, maybe to my surprise, the last storm we got that was like that crazy ice storm that we were supposed to get, but it wasn't nearly as bad here as they thought it was going to be. Nashville got hit really hard and it's been really, really awful they have like over 100,000 people without power. Like it's really rough out there, but we didn't get hit that hard. However, this weekend, We got, and this does not happen in North Carolina, especially not in the Piedmont area where I am from, got a foot of snow, literally 12 inches of snow. Kailey Waskall: so Ashton McGrady: they said it's the most we've gotten since like 2004, which is crazy. it just felt like we were living in a snow globe and it is don't get me wrong, but we don't have the infrastructure so we are literally trapped. Like Julie's off work today. ⁓ I joked last week, I was like, are you ever gonna have full week of work again? ⁓ Kailey Waskall: I know! crazy! ⁓ Ashton McGrady: It's just been so bad and we're expecting more snow on Wednesday. So I'm just like, okay, I guess I'm never leaving the house. And while I'm an introvert, I am getting a little antsy. I would like to go see a movie. would like to touch grass again, literally grass and not snow. I'm just kinda, kinda over that. What was your curse or well, you can do your crown or your curse. Which one do you wanna do? Kailey Waskall: So are, think so are in Maryland. ⁓ You Yeah. Um, I'll stick with the, bad vibes. and then we'll switch back to better vibes. I. Yeah, I'm like actually afraid to my car. I, am in Maryland, Baltimore, and we also got quite a bit of snow and ice, last week or like during the first storm. Um, so thankfully I do work. Ashton McGrady: I wanted to end it on a good note. Yeah, first round. Kailey Waskall: part-time out of school and the entire week got canceled, which kind of sucks because I don't know when this school year is gonna be over. gonna be in school like through July, but it's fine. all of our cars got obviously snowed in and then as the plows come by, because I'm in a city, right? So I'm parked on city street. we were able to dig out of our cars because my husband had to go back to his job. And so I got most of my car dug out, but it's just like ice now. I might still need to like dig some of the ice ⁓ out. ⁓ really need to go to the grocery store today. Ashton McGrady: Yeah. and you want avocado toast. Kailey Waskall: and I really want avocado toast. So after this, we're going to see if I can move my car and don't if it's going to work we start going back in person tomorrow. So like I I'm going to need to move my car anyways. And I'd rather move it the day before instead of like morning of trying to like go to my job. ⁓ we'll see how it goes today. I'll keep you updated. Ashton McGrady: ⁓ yeah. No, that's so stressful. I am sending all the good vibes. have a carport, which like that part is good. So like the car is fine, but like my stepdad plowed our driveway, which is really long. our is okay, but any of the roads you would take like get into town ⁓ are so horribly plowed. And it's just like sheet ice. It was 10 degrees this morning. I have given up. I've given up. But on that note, have to talk about something good. Not just always complaining about the weather. ⁓ Okay. Kailey Waskall: wanna complain, wait, wait, I wanna complain one more time and then ⁓ we bring it back up, but need to get this off my chest. Our trash has not been collected because there's now like huge ice piles ⁓ everywhere because that's where put it and it's not melting because it's cold. And I know for people who live in like snow climates, you're probably guys, this happens all the time, but like. Ashton McGrady: Okay. Yes. ⁓ no! Right. Thank you. Kailey Waskall: We don't normally get this amount. again, like you said, we're prepped for it's supposed to be starting up again but like our trash can is full. I'm like, we continue to make trash and I don't want it in our house because, oh my God, we had one extra trash bag was like in our kitchen and it had some like old stale bread in We come downstairs, our cat has, Ashton McGrady: Yeah. ⁓ no. ⁓ no. Kailey Waskall: eaten through trash bag and the bag of bread and has of course nebula the baby is the demon Ashton McGrady: Through the back? ⁓ god. Which feral won? Yeah. Yeah, she is, a little feral maniac and I love her. Kailey Waskall: I don't think the older sister Nimbus would even know to do that, now she does. Ashton McGrady: now she's been Kailey Waskall: I really need trash to picked up, which ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Yeah. is just one big curse. And we're both experiencing of low key the same curse this week. Like I'm mad about it. I'm gonna get on here and be angry about the weather every week until it stops doing this. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: Yeah, yeah. would love it if I didn't have to go places, you know? Ashton McGrady: real. Like if I could just stay at home forever it would be less of a problem. But I am, as I said, getting a little antsy. crown my week though is truly carrying me. It's breathing life into me. Kailey Waskall: All right, tell me about it. Bring it up, Ashton McGrady: after like seven attempts in pre-sale. ⁓ I got Harry Styles tickets MSG. I am so excited. gonna pee my pants. If you're out there listening and you are a fellow Harry, you know it was a ticket master award. This was truly worse than the Aris tour for me because I got in and out with my Aris tour tickets, okay, at face value. It was beautiful. But I tell you this pre-sale, was a thing of my nightmares. And I don't know who to be angry at. I don't whether to be angry at Harry's team. I don't know whether to be angry at Ticketmaster. I don't know whether to be angry at both of them. Ticketmaster said, oh no, dynamic pricing is not on. Tell me why. when I got in there two times, the same area of seats was $1,100, then it was $880. Then thank God I paid $350, which still feels obscene for where I am sitting. It's not bad. Okay, could be worse, yes, but why did I pay less for the aerostore? Kailey Waskall: Really? Ashton McGrady: Yeah. I'm like, girl, what do you mean dynamic pricing is and that the tickets were set by the tour? Like, what do you mean? There's no way. Like something funky is happening. Everybody's been talking about it, but I got tickets. I'm going to go with one of internet friends. And my little sister. So I'm so excited. this has been on my bucket list for so long. I haven't Harry live. So was very excited about that. I'm actually on the second tour date, which I'm really excited about. So I won't have a bunch of spoilers beforehand. Kailey Waskall: Wow, moves. It is so Ashton McGrady: I know, I'm so excited. and they're accessible seats, which is crazy. I'm going to pass it on to you because again, I feel like we've just been sitting here angry about the weather. So did happen that was actually good this week? Kailey Waskall: Love that. I was able to get out of my house yesterday a local Baltimore bar called of Brewing, which for those of you who don't know is basically in an old church that they have turned into a brewery. Very, very cool, very fun. do a they do a, yeah, yeah, yeah. They do a lot of local events. Ashton McGrady: Okay, period. It's so cutie. took me there. Kailey Waskall: they'll have like markets ⁓ ⁓ bingo ⁓ just like all sorts of different things. So yesterday was the full moon in ⁓ Leo. And so had moon market. So there were like bunch of little magical vendors ⁓ and it was so cute. But the cool crown was I my tarot read. Ashton McGrady: Cute. Kailey Waskall: I love getting my tarot read. I truly just like, I need someone else to tell me what's going on in my life. it, yeah, I go then the tarot helps. interesting. Ashton McGrady: Okay. how to navigate it. Did you get insightful from it? Kailey Waskall: Yeah, so I asked about like clarity on social content creation journey. Because as always, I'm looking to expand and adjust and really be authentic online. I hate that authentic. Everyone's looking to be authentic. But anyways, that's the best way to describe And just wanted to find out like, hey, like here's how I'm thinking. I'm like switching up things and blah, blah, blah. And I got a really positive reading with like a lot of the major arcana cards, which was powerful. And then ⁓ she like, okay, like we did question. And then she was like, do you have another question? And I was like, sure, like I can ask another question. And so I asked about like my husband and my long-term like family planning, all the stuff, like seeing. Ashton McGrady: ⁓ The babies. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, there's no baby right now. I'm gonna be very clear with that and there's no trialing of having a baby, but it is potentially on the long-term horizon. we're in our 30s and we're both like, shoot, I think we actually like kids, both work with kids, so it's not like surprise. But we're like, ⁓ man, Ashton McGrady: Take it. Kailey Waskall: anyways I was just asking for that kind of path and I got almost the exact same pull of cards like the same positioning and like I watched her shuffle the deck like do all the stuff and I got the exact same cards which Ashton McGrady: That's so interesting. Right. Yeah. Kailey Waskall: was just, so fun. And I was like, whoa. then she was like, do you want to ask a third question? I was like, honestly, no, I don't have a third question to Or else I would because I want to see if I get the same cards again, but nope. so I only asked the two questions, love getting my tarot read. It's so fun. Ashton McGrady: ⁓ Again, yeah. Yeah, it's so fun. I really to get more thorough soon. I want to do like, I don't know, I really, I haven't found a place locally like since I moved that really does like tarot readings or anything like that. have a local witchy story yet, but I do also love getting my tarot read. That's so fun. Kailey Waskall: I something could do if the tarot's in person, my mom and got our birth charts read. Yes, this woman, her name's Diana, I forget her insta, but she does, what your year's gonna look like based on your chart, and she did Ashton McGrady: Yeah, I've done that Kailey Waskall: a goddess reading of what goddesses are linked to your birth chart and like what they stand for sent me like an hour long recording one, she like. Ashton McGrady: Yeah. I did mine live but then had the stuff afterwards to like go through. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, this was, ⁓ my God, maybe two years ago now. the goddess one was pre-recorded of her just like talking through. then we got the live birth chart in depth reading highly recommend. It's just so fun. ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Yeah. So fun. So, Yeah, if nothing else, it resonates with you or not, I feel like it's a lot of fun. we all need a little more whimsy, ⁓ as we know. Kailey Waskall: Yeah. I like to a little witchy, cause you know, screw the man. Shall we move into we're all here though? Ashton McGrady: Yes, yes we shall. Hear ye, hear ye, new beauty drops are on the Kailey Waskall: are starting with packaging that sucks. Ashton McGrady: I feel rage when I look at this packaging actually. Kailey Waskall: So is the Makeup by Mario Jelly Jar Lip and Cheek Multi-Use Bomb. Ashton McGrady: I just want you guys to know we like do notes for every single one the products that we talk about just so we have, you know, some reference go off of after we've like examined the packaging, the formula, blah, blah. My top note this is hate, hate, hate in all capitals, this packaging, jail. So ⁓ ⁓ that you don't it. It looks not ⁓ super large. The only thing it has for that I will give to it is that Okay, I guess I'll give it two things. One, the product top does match the color of the product inside. Okay, good, bare minimum, right? That feels like a bare minimum. in that the top of the packaging looks to be, I think matte. I can't really tell without my hands on it, but appears to be A top over this like thin glass pot of product. Kailey Waskall: Yeah. Ashton McGrady: Does it look beautiful? Yes, like this color I'm looking at, mauve latte, rosy mauve, gorgeous, something I would typically go for. And yes, do I love like a multi-use product where talked this before, where I can just like slap it all over my face and it just like works in a five minute phase? Yes, ⁓ but at what cost? these diabolical and it reminds me of the dang solo merit eyeshadows that I cannot stand, same concept. I hate this packaging. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, I will say it is a little different from Merit in that Merit's top is like almost indented where you like hold the bottom and then you have to like squeeze the top tinier. So my opinion, that makes it a little bit harder because you can't just like do like the palm push twist to open. Whereas this I could potentially see shoving it on some Dyson and just doing like the ⁓ flat palm but Ashton McGrady: Yeah. Right. Yeah. Kailey Waskall: I can't tell how big these are. look like- Ashton McGrady: I don't think it's tiny, you can see like in the marketing photos, ⁓ she's like holding up to her I mean, that's not like massive, it's not tiny. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: ⁓ she's like holding it. Yeah, It's For me, Ashton McGrady: I I don't like sticking my fingers in pots like that. it just, ⁓ don't know. Something about it is just giving me rage. I being by makeup by I felt very passionately about this I looked at it. I was like, ⁓ guys, we could have done so better here. I don't like it. Kailey Waskall: what would you do to make it better? That's my question. Ashton McGrady: that's a good point. I- Kailey Waskall: I have an idea. Ashton McGrady: Okay, well tell me your idea because I'm looking at it in the means of like I don't even know where to start. It just pisses me off. A compact? Kailey Waskall: So I think instead of a full circle... No. If they want to keep it in kind of the tub, which Makeup by Mario is for makeup artists, so I wonder too if this tub is like good for be totally here, but that's kind of my initial thoughts because I know they do like market towards makeup artists often. But I would love to see more like an oval shape ⁓ or have like the top be an oval shape while the bottom's a circle or opposite so that it is little bit easier to get a grip on it. I think you do something there And the other thing I think is actually probably causing rage Ashton McGrady: Yeah. Yeah. Kailey Waskall: is the well that actually like holds the cream looks very thin. So if you're thinking about that compared to like powder, typically that bottom is thicker so can get more of a grip on where these look like you're gonna have to be very, very specific. tell me if I'm wrong, but I think that is what's causing rage. Ashton McGrady: and I think like I a lot of problems with it. I don't love it as a whole. sure product itself is beautiful. Again, the formula could be outstanding, but the packaging is nothing innovative. So I'm just, I'm bored. Kailey Waskall: I don't think I could this in my and apply it throughout the day, this isn't the type of product that I'm gonna take with me. I feel like this is for makeup artists ooh, ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Right. Yeah, I don't know, it's not for me, I'll tell you that. But let's move on to a product that makes me feel slightly less rage. love Bioma and they are launching a new face mask. It's the magical bio collagen radiance facial mask. a lot bio collagen radiance facial oop, oopie, goopy, that's really long guys. Kailey Waskall: It's a long label. Ashton McGrady: have always loved their packaging because so much of it has corners actually like all of them do, but their packaging has also been historically like mapped. So ⁓ I love that. It's just like part of their branding. It's part of what they with product. I find myself meh about way you dispense it because ⁓ a jar. You're dipping your fingers in it. I've never really liked that, but you could use something to like stick in there like one of those little silicone... You know what I'm talking about? that would probably make it a little better for me sensory-wise, but I am so satisfied because it's a peel-off mask. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, you could scoop. Yeah, a good. Ashton McGrady: Ooh, I love it. it looks like it's quite a bit of product. I don't think skimping on the product. for Kailey Waskall: Yeah, no, I really like Bioma. they have a mask that has like a doe foot applicator. instead of having to dig your finger in, you just like twist it open and apply it like any lip balm, but it's a mask. Ashton McGrady: Love. Love, really leans into that like glass skin trend that we've all seen, glass skin, glass hair, glass everything. But I love that it's a peel off. That's just so satisfying to me. I don't know about you, but I was the child who would put glue on myself to peel it off. ⁓ And feels like that as an adult. Like this feels like the socially acceptable way to get that out of my system Kailey Waskall: ⁓ yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that is the one reason why I of want one of wax paraffin baths that they do ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Yeah. Those can be really good if you have like arthritis and stuff. Kailey Waskall: did that. ⁓ so we had like a physical agent modality class in OT school, and we got to like try a lot of the different ones and the paraffin bath, I was like, I just want to sit here. ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Yeah. ⁓ like that be right up my alley. It's so satisfying. Julie just mentioned one of those again to me recently and I was like, why do I kind of need one actually? Kailey Waskall: think you'd really benefit from it. Ashton McGrady: I also agree. My hands have been really angry with, all the cold weather. Me angry at the weather every two seconds. But yeah, I love the space mask. I actually think I will purchase this. It's gonna be on Amazon, Ulta, Target, all over the place, it's coming out in March. Kailey Waskall: Yeah. Ashton McGrady: So I don't know when this episode is coming out, it potentially could be out by the time you listen to this, either way, if it's not, it should be soon. And I am so excited. Kailey Waskall: Continuing on the excited train, let's talk about the new fragrance. So this is Cosmic Kylie Intense de parfum. All right, take it away. Ashton McGrady: I really wanna talk about this. feel like I'm in a yapping mood now. I'm like really on one ever since the Makeup by Mario blush. So I have the Cosmic Kylie 2.0. I don't have the original one. And I honestly think it smells great. listen, I am not a stan. I do not follow. In fact, I would probably run the opposite way. But I will say, Do I love my Cosmic Kylie 2.0 fragrance? Yes. because I think it smells delicious. Two, the packaging is so cool to me. 2.0 is like silver chrome-y one, which chrome packaging is sometimes because you're gonna get your little grubby fingerprints all over it. This one is red, but it's the same, like organic shape since the beginning Kailey Waskall: Yeah. Ashton McGrady: which I think is so cool. I held them and they are quite Like the big bottle, freaking heavy. But the shape so organic that it feels it fits perfectly in palm. I love that the top is the little sphere too, because I feel like it makes it a little easier to pull off. Now the sprayer itself It's the same as most fragrances we see. there's not like a bunch of extra surface area or anything, but I don't know if this is like an intense of the OG. maybe? Kailey Waskall: it says Ambry Gourmand versus the OG as an Ambry Floral. So. Ashton McGrady: ⁓ I do love a gourmand. Kailey Waskall: They're very similar. the original cosmic keynotes ⁓ Star Jasmine, Golden Amber Chord and Vanilla Muska Chord, whereas intense keynotes are the Star Jasmine again, but then Benzoin, I don't know what that is, ⁓ and Ashton McGrady: blood orange too. interesting. I be curious to smell this sometimes like the intense version it's like too much but sometimes I appreciate that because I get more like bang for my buck. Kailey Waskall: I have a question for you. Would you ⁓ rather have a product that is to open but hard to dispense or a product that is hard to dispense but easy to open? Ashton McGrady: I think hard to open, to dispense. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: I agree. Tell me why. Ashton McGrady: I feel like when I'm dispensing a lot of times I'm dispensing more than once, having to interact with the product multiple times to get as much as I need. the only reason I would think maybe the opposite is feel like if you have like a barrier to use, so like if opening is challenging, gonna get angry and I might give up. So I could see both arguments here. about you? Kailey Waskall: I think easy to dispense because specifically if you're thinking about perfumes you're not traveling with it, you don't necessarily have close it, So I would rather have a dispenser a la Rare Beauty where it easy dispense. would just like leave the cap off and be able to dispense versus to Ashton McGrady: Right. Yeah. Kailey Waskall: get product open, but then you can't actually use it. that's so interesting because I feel like a lot of these fragrances ⁓ are fairly easy open but then you have this dispenser that is just like garbage. Ashton McGrady: That's fair Wait. they're just There's nothing special about they're always so small because usually packaging is So I know, That could use some serious work. But on the fragrance train, both big fans of Sniff, the fragrance brand. Kailey Waskall: I love sniff. Talk about easy to open packaging. Ashton McGrady: Yes, so that's why I was like, this is the perfect follow up to that because feel like sniff in terms of fragrance is honestly the most accessible I have personally found And just dropped their secret menu scents at Ulta, Kailey Waskall: okay, said they the most you have ever tried. Compare it to Rare Beauty. Ashton McGrady: Okay, other than... that's the one exception, Kailey Waskall: agree that fragrance packaging, sniff is top three. Ashton McGrady: Yeah, if you haven't their fragrances before, the tops are this super, super strong magnet. ⁓ doesn't too hard to like pull open, but it is enough to like if you pull the top back towards the body of the packaging, the magnet's gonna snap it back in place. Kailey Waskall: Yeah. Ashton McGrady: think they did a great job with that. Not only that, but the tops are kind of like ridged. They have some texture to them. So I feel that just does make them easier to grip. Now, again, the sprayer, it's the same old sprayer. It's nothing It's so annoying, but do love that, they have some more options. They're bringing in Swede which I think is like this watermelon candy kind of concept, Nona, which I think was their take on like fruit cake, And ⁓ Soda Snob, which speaks for itself. ⁓ I haven't smelled any of these by the way. I mean, these feel like a little experimental, so I would smell them in store. store. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, there's one called Dead Dinosaur. What do you think that's? Okay, tell me, what do you think it smells like? Ashton McGrady: The story's crazy. I don't know, ⁓ Kailey Waskall: Just guess. Dead dinosaur. Ashton McGrady: what does fossil smell like? Kailey Waskall: a fossil fuel smell like? Ashton McGrady: Is it like mossy or like... What do you mean? Like gasoline? Kailey Waskall: Possibly yes, so apparently it is their ode to the addictive smell of gasoline garage hangs in simpler times ⁓ keynotes accord pink pepper ginger magnolia flower oris and cedar wood Ashton McGrady: No. I don't think I like that. mean, don't knock until you try it, but I'm scared. Kailey Waskall: I kinda wanna smell it. I'm one of those weirdos who kinda likes the smell of gasoline. Do I wanna smell like gasoline? No. But when I'm at a gas pump, am I like, huh? Ashton McGrady: Right. Gasoline accord is crazy. Kailey Waskall: people would go, why you smell really good. What are you wearing? And I go, ⁓ dead dinosaur. ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Dead dinosaur? am intrigued enough to smell it, but I don't want to smell like so ⁓ a no for me. one's... ⁓ Then I'm Kailey Waskall: that one is not sold in stores, so Not for you. Ashton McGrady: I am not going to blind buy a fragrance called Dead Dinosaur. End of sentence. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: All right, what about one that smells like pizza? Ashton McGrady: I saw that. their secret menu is kind of off the rocker, and while I am here for it, because they're clearly having fun, they're here for bit, the nostalgia, whatever they're doing is somebody's buying it. Kailey Waskall: Also, Society is an ode the scent of pizza. I feel like it would just make me hungry. I can't smell like pizza, because I would just want to eat pizza all day long, but. Ashton McGrady: Well, as a gourmand girly, I smell like food a lot. does sometimes make me hungry, but pizza? ⁓ Kailey Waskall: Yeah, so blackcurrant, which I like, basil, like the smell. This is where it gets me. Tomato sauce accord. What do we think that smells like? Ashton McGrady: Imagine you layer dead dinosaur slice society. Kailey Waskall: No. smell like a you smell like a 7-Eleven, like a gas station that sells pizza. Ashton McGrady: No, literally. my gosh, they should do a collab with 7-Eleven. Honestly, don't ever say we didn't give you anything. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: I will say I'm looking at the slice society marketing. I have not eaten yet today. I kind also want pizza. ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Oh no. But I want to be so clear, those are not available in store. I think it is just the Swede Tooth, Naughty Nona, and Soda Snob, but maybe that means there's a future for Dead Dinosaur and Society to be in stores. Who knows? Either way, I'm here. love to see them expanding and growing. you know... Kailey Waskall: It's so fun. Ashton McGrady: want to be able to smell things in person. I do not encourage a blind buy, especially with the fragrance that has a gasoline accord or a tomato accord. I'm here for adding more in store, but speaking of food collabs, our next product, I really have to talk about this because I got PR package and I am gagged. Kailey Waskall: Yeah. Ashton McGrady: CocoKind just dropped OliPop ⁓ balm collab. love this lip balm. I love their Ceramide Lip Blur love that they did this, because I just think it is so fun. Like, again, we've talked about it plenty of times. I want to have fun with makeup. I want to have fun the beauty world. Like, this is so fun to me. It's so cheeky. love that they leaned into the flavors of the Oli Pops. Kailey Waskall: they have Ollipop cherry cola, which is like a cherry red. And then they have Ollipop cream soda, which is a clear shimmer. And then thirdly, they have Ollipop strawberry vanilla, which is a bright strawberry pink. I am not on their PR, I fear I might need to go is a tube, but the product itself thin enough that it's not too much exertion in my opinion. I don't know what your opinion is. shiny packaging, but top these nice. Ashton McGrady: Right. Kailey Waskall: Curves to it that almost gives it a texture. That's So textured that if you're someone who has like skin breakdown you would break your skin or get a trying to open this it's textured enough that it's still gonna give you a little grip and I freaking love that the top is naturally built to add charms to and Ashton McGrady: Right. No, it's so fun. don't know if it's being dropped with this collab, but there are charms that came with the OliPop ones that like match the sodas. they're releasing them. Well, yeah, you have to buy them. Kailey Waskall: says charms sold separately. but I don't know that they are available at Ulta versus Oli Pops. Ashton McGrady: I don't I know, but cutie. I think the spot for the charm is cute, but I also think it can be kind of functional. I feel like you can kind of like put it between or like pinch it between something to help you open the product I just think that there's multiple ways to interact with it and we love options. Kailey Waskall: you don't have to buy their charms like can get your own charms, but if you Yeah, and then if you have low vision and you rely on touch Ashton McGrady: No! ⁓ my gosh, you could make your own charms! Kailey Waskall: For cues, you could make like your own so that you know what the different colors are there's a lot you could do in, I'm always in. Ashton McGrady: Yeah! I think that's so fun. I love a craft. I love making things like bag charms and key chains and stuff like that. So that would be so fun and yet another way to adapt it. But I just thought the collab was I'm so here for a fun food collab. I'm really excited about it. Kailey Waskall: CocoKind, they're such a good like consumer focused brand. like have had multiple things where they've brought like customers on like influencer quote unquote trips. ⁓ Yeah. that's such a Ashton McGrady: Yeah, they do the customer brand trip, is so cool. Kailey Waskall: fun way to say like, thank ⁓ really like their ethos ⁓ Ashton McGrady: I They like really watch their customers that have been with them for a long time. Like Priscilla the founder, she has called on the phone. They've like delivered gifts. When they on these customer brand Priscilla herself shows up at the airport to pick people up. I just think that they are really putting in the work. have been so genuine thoughtful with the way that they market their brand, the way They handle their brand love standing behind CocoKind. Kailey Waskall: same, same, same. Ashton McGrady: so the next product I put into our little doc reminds me bit of CocoKind lip balm. is another lip balm, but it is the most closely I have seen packaging without being like a dupe This is a new brand ⁓ at Ulta. I to say it might be K-Beauty brand Party of You. I could be wrong, so if I'm misspeaking, sorry, But they have multiple coming to Ulta, like in their new section. And this one caught eye because it has those similar ridges. Do you see what I'm Kailey Waskall: Yeah, so they're wider. where CocoKind has like multiple little ridges, these are definitely wider ones. So there's only three instead of like the tiny amounts, but interesting. a little worried that the squeeze tube is gonna be a thicker plastic. I could be wrong. Based on the marketing. Ashton McGrady: Yeah. Kailey Waskall: photos, they have like some indented and to me that means like, ⁓ got like structural integrity to like stay indented when you squeeze it. So like how much strength does it take to squeeze it? But it ⁓ is kind of innovative lip balm packaging container we really haven't ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Right. It is. not the same boring, lip balm packaging we all see I just like that they're doing something a little different. Kailey Waskall: it's unavailable in my area now. Rude. Rude! Ashton McGrady: Naturally. honestly, they had a chunk of product. I didn't even get into all of them. One of the ones I did check out was their hydrating buttercream. This the Party of You Soft Spread Buttercream. Why does it have one of those teeny tiny hex caps? Kailey Waskall: I don't know. I really hate the Hex Cop. so annoying. Ashton McGrady: They're the bane of my existence. hate They're used very often with aluminum tubes, but do genuinely hate them. They're so tiny. This doesn't even look aluminum to me. I can't really tell by looking at it. So this was a it looks like the packaging could be kind of matte-ish. I can't really tell. But also Kailey Waskall: No, it looks like plastic. Ashton McGrady: If you're talking a thick cream, like how hard is it going to be on top of that to then squeeze the product out? Like I'm tired, it's not a pump and it has a hex cap, jail. don't know, they had other things. These are just the two that got into. But it is a new brand at Ulta. So maybe worth checking out to see if there's other products from Party of You that work for your needs. Kailey Waskall: At end of every episode, we have a segment called Ask the Collective where you, our listeners, are able to ask us questions that we will answer. Today's question is, what do you do when makeup is fun emotionally but exhausting physically? And Ashton, I feel like this question was made for you. Ashton McGrady: This is such a good I do feel this because always say like I want makeup to be fun. Like makeup is meant to be fun and it's meant to be playful and it's something I enjoy kind of like an art form. But at end of the day does require energy. It does require ⁓ spoons. It does ⁓ movement. So it can be challenging if you're experiencing like a lot of fatigue or just like a flare-up or just like on a regular basis. it's a trade-off, right? So do the things you love, unfortunately, sometimes there is a cost for those feel this because I love doing my makeup, but there are days I can't. However, on days that I really want to or need I'm going somewhere doing something like Today, I'm kind of tired, but I have a call with a brand today. when am trying to do the bare minimum, I've kind of gotten it down to like, I have some core products that I will use to do quick phase, but beyond that, I'm accommodating myself otherwise. So a lot of times I'll take it and if I can, I'll do it from bed. I... will try to make it as little movement as possible. I'll put the products that I need into like a little makeup go bag for my ⁓ little five minute and I take that to bed, have a little compact mirror and just knock it out that way. sometimes it is just too much to down at my desk and do the whole shebang. Sometimes I just need to do the bare minimum. So I feel that. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, you obviously hit the nails on the head ⁓ ⁓ trying to accommodate yourself love the of having like specific products that are relatively easy for you to do that make you feel good. if you have a support person, I think connecting with someone Ashton McGrady: Right. Kailey Waskall: I remember when we visited and like helped each other with some sort of makeup piece and it's just such a good lighthearted fun piece that like If you are physically exhausted or you're having a hard day and you have support person that can help Kind of apply the things that make you feel good is obviously not Ashton McGrady: Right. Sure. Kailey Waskall: possible for everyone and like sometimes your partner or your support person is like not into makeup and so they're like what? ⁓ Yeah. think that's another one where you can like get to kind of do that makeup piece if everything is for and you've already kind limited yourself to the barriers and you've it laying down and you've done it with the easiest products you have. Ashton McGrady: Julie. ⁓ be gentle and go easy on yourself. If it takes you you know, so be it. you're not a rush, throw on a comfort TV show, go your own pace. if it doesn't feel fun and you don't actually have wear it, it's also okay to skip it. ⁓ It is, but I do that it is so much fun play with makeup. We just have find different ways to... ⁓ Kailey Waskall: Yeah. Ashton McGrady: accommodate ourselves and different products that work best for our bodies. But that's kind of like why we're here. To share the options with people. I do love that question. I see you, I hear you, we're thinking of you. hopefully you find some things that for you. So maybe you can have a quick routine, a quick little Kailey Waskall: That's the whole point of this Ashton McGrady: Go bag, it's the same bag that I take with me when I'm camping or traveling. It's like a bare minimum, can I look put together? A lot like multi-use products, a lot of very easy to apply products. If you can find things like that that work for you. And again, as Kayleigh said, if you're able to bring in a support person, don't be afraid as easy as that sounds to don't be afraid to ask for help. I know can be sometimes much harder practice, but. Kailey Waskall: Right. Ashton McGrady: I think that about sums it up. So before we go, send us your questions.
