Kailey Waskall: Every week we start the show with a crown and curse of the week, also known as something really good that happened to you this week and something not so good that happened to you this week. I'm gonna throw it to you and I'm actually gonna let you choose. Do you wanna start with the good stuff or the bad stuff? Ashton McGrady: let's start with the bad stuff. so first and foremost, I saw Wuthering Heights. End of Kailey Waskall: Yeah, I don't think I've ever read it. I have seen some of the discourse about it, but I have not looked too into it because one, I have never read it. Ashton McGrady: I want to give the caveat that this movie was so beautifully shot. wardrobe, beautiful. If you want to go and watch ⁓ a beautifully shot movie that clearly a massive budget, be my guest. if you've the book and you think what you're getting, you're so as long as you go in with that in mind, it's totally fine. I don't think I knew what to expect. I went the first day that it came out because, I don't we have Regal Unlimited, so that's like a traditional date we'll just go see a movie. And yeah, don't know. I didn't know what to expect going in, but I thought it was kind of wild. of course, you know, there's discourse online because some of the decisions that were made from the director were like kind of questionable because like the whole book kind of pivots around Heathcliff who in this movie played by Jacob Elordi being not white and so was very interesting the that went into this because it just kind of like meant that we lost an entire plot point it. So I thought that was really interesting. I know it's Wuthering Heights quotations, like it's made to be an adaptation. It's not made to be like a one for one, but still that was... Kailey Waskall: Yeah, but I don't know. I feel like if you're gonna adapt something and you're like, mm, diversity, let's turn it white. Ashton McGrady: Yeah, that really It felt like she was yeah, actually, let's just make sure we have all the ladies simping for Jacob Elordi. still very confused about the choice that was made there. Kailey Waskall: Yeah. Ashton McGrady: And it was a weird movie. I honestly thought it was interesting choice too to have Charlie do the entire soundtrack. Kailey Waskall: I do want to listen to the soundtrack. Ashton McGrady: the music. You can tell, this is like made to be like a very modern version because the fashion is more modern the music is obviously modern. was a piece of art. Art is subjective. Kailey Waskall: It just shouldn't have been called Weathering Heights. Ashton McGrady: was pretty much what I left with. Now my curse is, if you're listening to this, that I accidentally uploaded the wrong version of episode three of her podcast. ⁓ living free of my brain because I just need you guys to know as I was about to leave for a camping trip on Friday, I ⁓ literally trying get out the door. We're like packing the car. ⁓ Kaylee calls me she's like, hey, so I'm listening to our podcast and actually that is the unedited version. Kailey Waskall: it's just us being like pause. Ashton McGrady: thinking about how rough it had to be too because this was episode 3, like back when we were feeling super clunky, it had to be crazy and I still think it's so funny that once we the actual version uploaded, Kaylee goes, yeah, so I like version so much better than the uncut version. Kailey Waskall: listen to the uncut version and was like, are we really this boring? Like, who's gonna listen to this? And then when the actual cut version with like music and not long pauses on purpose, sounded much better. Ashton McGrady: and I had to about the people that may have potentially heard it and that haunts me. And I'll be thinking about that for a really long time. Do you want to do your crown your curse first? Cause I'll still give you a choice. Kailey Waskall: stay in the dirt. my six feet under. my curse of the is it is snowing again, which is magical. no, I think we're going to get that much this time. Thank goodness. we won't have to dig out our cars. but I was definitely like getting ready for spring, you know? Ashton McGrady: not the dirt. ⁓ six feet under the snow. Kailey Waskall: we had few sunny days last week and I was like, I like being he came out and he said, mm, still winter. Ashton McGrady: Where's that fucking groundhog? Yeah, wanna fight him Pugsitani Phil, is that what Are you listening to this, Phil? Because I've had two cups of coffee and I'm disabled, but I will come for your neck. Kailey Waskall: it's just based on his shadow, right? Yeah, that's his name. Don't fight the I don't know if that's the best use of your Ashton McGrady: he I, we do have beef right now because what do you mean? This doesn't make sense. Kailey Waskall: Well, bring it back around to something good. Ashton McGrady: Okay, okay, okay, I just came home, see, as just talked about, from a camping weekend, and it was wonderful. were there any other campers in the entire campground? No, and it was wonderful. It was beautiful. We had giant field to ourselves. It opened up to this gorgeous mountain ridge. It was so peaceful, and right next to our campsite was a little stream, you could hear that constant flow of water. was just so peaceful and so nice to get away and unplug and think about the diabolical world we live in. And that's not my only crown. I have two for both categories So the job that I about interviewing for a while ago, I got, I can't remember if I said, and I just finished my first week and it was lovely. Kailey Waskall: Yay! Ashton McGrady: I know, it was so good and it's so crazy because I'm wow, I am a girlie that really does know what I'm doing. I was a little scared to step into the marketing world, but I'm homegirl, you've been doing this for seven years now, low key. So it feels very natural and very good. And so far the people that I work with are lovely. So has been very exciting. What was your crown? Kailey Waskall: Yeah. Well, I have a few this week. I had an overall very good week. So, ⁓ number ⁓ one, I have a new hair color and love Ashton McGrady: love. It's so good. looks like it suits you so well. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, people have like assumed it's my actual natural hair color and I'm like, ⁓ no, but thank you. Ashton McGrady: I got that when I went red and I don't know if it's because I'm so pasty. Kailey Waskall: know. And my brows also did not tint them. They look like they match my hair. I know. No. I didn't touch them at all. I went and I did get an eyebrow pencil, but I haven't even used it yet. So I've just been looking at my brows and I'm like, oh, they actually look fine. Thank you. I do think I'm going to keep this color for the foreseeable future. Cause I really, really like it. Year of the fire horse, fire hair. Ashton McGrady: They look like they belong. No, I actually thought you did when I first saw it. Yeah. No, it looks so natural. Good. You're the fire horse. Kailey Waskall: another good thing, I went the dentist Friday. That's not the good thing. I hate the dentist. ⁓ I had this like traumatizing experience when I got filled. And then I was at this dental practice where the dentist who did my cavity ended up getting fired because they were like bad at their job. so the numbing whatever it didn't get it fully numb. So I was just like raw dog in a cavity which has made it that the next time I had another cavity and I went in with a good doctor I like told them this experience and they were like, ⁓ my god, I'm so sorry. they again numbed me up, but my body was on such high anxiety levels that I burned through to the point where at the end of the experience they were like, Ashton McGrady: ⁓ man. Kailey Waskall: Okay, so next time we have to prescribe you Xanax because your body just like handle this without extra help. And so because of that, is embarrassing to admit, but it's fine. I hadn't to dentist in like a and a half I was so nervous. about having cavities ⁓ Ashton McGrady: I won't tell you how long it's been for me. So don't say it's embarrassing, because like there's probably a lot of listeners out there who can relate to this. I feel like a lot of people have a fear of the dentist and it's very valid. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, my dental hygienist was so sweet and I went in and I was like, Hey, I just want to let you know, I don't really the dentist. I had a little fidget that I used her at the whole thing. and She was like explaining every step and she was like, are you okay? She asked me like what, cause you know how there's like the little, thing that they use with their hand or there's like the little drill thing that vibrates. ⁓ Ashton McGrady: ⁓ I love that. Yeah. Yeah. Kailey Waskall: she was like, do you want me to use one over the other? And I was like, no, no, no, like I can handle it. I'm just letting you know that I'm nervous. And she was like, okay, cause I like the drill cause it makes it go faster. And like, such a good experience. and I have no cavities, is really great. And my gosh, this woman, this dental hygienist woman, I was talking about how like, yes, I try to floss. I don't do it every day, but I like try when I have the energy and wherewithal to do it. Ashton McGrady: love. Yeah. Kailey Waskall: And because I have the little bar in my mouth, cause I had braces as a kid. So I have the bar behind my front teeth. she about flossing there because there was where I had like the most buildup. and she me this brilliant idea, which I will now share with you. So they make ⁓ handheld water picks because she was like, ⁓ do you use a water flosser? And I said, Yeah, I've tried it in the past and I hated how I ended up just like blasting myself with water. she was like, they make cordless handheld ones. I just do it in the shower. Ashton McGrady: that's so smart. there are practices out there more informed like trauma informed and like also will work with neurodivergent clients, which I think is so Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. Ashton McGrady: so if that's you ⁓ maybe that's worth giving a Google search or word of mouth see if you can find I guess we should get into the new beauty drops of the week, Kailey Waskall: I'm so excited. Ashton McGrady: Hear ye, hear ye, new beauty drops are on the way. the first one wanted to talk about is I literally just discovered this when I was a perusing. I didn't buy anything, but I thought about it. first is the Benefit Cosmetics Play Days Airy Soft Matte Liquid Blush, which good googly goodness. are these names like miles long? Kailey Waskall: I don't know, but also saw this over the weekend and literally went, have to talk about this on the podcast. Ashton McGrady: It comes in five shades, Apricot-a, which is a warm Apricot, Will-a, a soft neutral rose, Starla, a rosy bronze, Chili, a coral orange, and Berry, which is blackberry, that's gorgeous. Also, this packaging is like, cute, but I do think it will be maybe a little more accessible, the cap and the body. I think they look matte. What do you think? Kailey Waskall: Yes, it actually almost looks to me like a soft silicone versus a which I be totally wrong and don't listen to well, listen to me, but believe me until you've touched it. Ashton McGrady: No, I It could can't tell from at it but. Kailey Waskall: It's most likely just a soft touch plastic, but it looks good. The cap has like those organic curves. So it's going to feel good to get it open. The wand is short. ⁓ Yeah. And so when you have a shorter wand, it just helps you be more precise because you're up closer. Ashton McGrady: I was gonna say that's something I noticed. Kailey Waskall: you're not as much like wavering around with a long wand. Ashton McGrady: packaging color matches the color the blush inside, which is cool. benefit like engraved in. I don't think that's gonna be enough of a tactile cue, but I feel like this product feels unique enough maybe that that could be helpful. Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. when I first looked at it, I was like, okay, well, all one shade, do you tell between the top and the bottom? But the fact that cap is kind of curved versus the bottom is just a cylinder. So you really, naturally know to put your hands for this product, Ashton McGrady: Right. and they're saying it's supposed to be like very lightweight, has like natural matte finish. I think they it's also ⁓ long wearing and waterproof, I'm here for that because about to enter into the warmer months. Good God, if we can ever get out of this snowmageddon situation. ⁓ So that'll be so nice for spring and summer. Kailey Waskall: video. Yeah, I'm very intrigued by this. The thing I'm a little nervous about is on the how to use, it does say pump applicator. So I don't know if that's just to get the product on versus just pulling it ⁓ out, but we can see play around with it once actually get the product in our hands. I'm really excited. Ashton McGrady: okay. I have a little more info. It says pump applicator up and down before dotting onto the cheeks. Kailey Waskall: Right. Ashton McGrady: What does that even mean? Okay. on the, yeah, I think so. Maybe that's it meant by pump, but that is confusing. We'd love some clarity on that ⁓ No, I should have. I really need to go feel it person. Kailey Waskall: I don't know. Is that just like to get it ⁓ did you buy a shade when you were perusing on Ulta? ⁓ I know I'm gonna have to go to Ulta this next one also excited about. What is going on? These this week? Good. ⁓ a lot of them, was ⁓ good, ⁓ good. Ashton McGrady: Same. They're kind of fire. Like, when I went in and I was looking at some of new beauty releases, I was like, girl. Also, I just think we're getting a lot of K-Beauty and I have noticed, and I'm sure you have as well, just like their packaging tends to be more innovative. Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. ⁓ 100%, Ashton McGrady: I think that will be a great thing for accessibility. I'm really excited to see more K-Beauty in both Ulta and Sephora. That's neither here there, because we are talking about what, Kaylee? ⁓ Kailey Waskall: The Polite Society Cabana Club Cocoa Caviar Bio-Peptide Bronzing Serum. ⁓ so it... All labels are long. But anyways, is an easy to blend serum that melts evenly into the skin for streak free natural radiance. Can we talk about this packaging? Ashton McGrady: Ookie gookie spooky. me every I need to talk about the packaging. I'm kind of excited. Okay, so like at first glance, it looks like a serum bottle. It looks like almost like a nail polish bottle to me, I, that's what I, when I first looked at it, I was like, what is this? What am I looking at? So it has like, you can see inside of it has all those little like pearls that kind of like burst onto the skin of the bronze color. But the top, the top specifically, Kailey Waskall: It really does. Ashton McGrady: It's hard to know, obviously, until we put our hands on a product, but the top looks matte. almost this cylindrical shape. I feel like because of the way it separates itself from the body, it looks like it's going to be nice to grip. Kailey Waskall: I I agree. looks, it's just, it's rounded, but it's still got heft to it. it looks like your fingers are going to naturally kind of land where they need to land for like optimal strength. my one well, one of my cons is it is a pump, which can be good or but the pump itself just looks like your everyday natural pump. So, the external packaging I'm really excited about. I'm wondering how this, because if we're thinking about bronzing serums, what comes to mind for me is comparing it to the, say, like glowy and then also the drunk elephant bronzing drops. So I think along that continuum, even though drunk elephant is squared corners, it does require a squeeze. So that's going to change. Ashton McGrady: Mm-hmm, and it's a hard squeeze for me. I've used it. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, yeah, so that's gonna change how you use the product on your own needs. I think Society one, I think I'm gonna put it in the middle for me. I think I'm gonna go Bronzing Drops, Polite Society, and then the Glowy ⁓ Super Gel, the Glow from SAE because I like Ashton McGrady: Yeah. Kailey Waskall: While say is it's that shiny packaging, like the top itself, the external components aren't as It is larger, so that can help depending on your needs. But pump is ⁓ wider Ashton McGrady: Yeah, so I mean, we love options. kind of like the whole point of why we talk about what we talk about on here because one thing that might work for us might not work for you or vice versa. So it's just nice have a different way to with a product in the same category that ⁓ Kailey Waskall: I know, I feel like the bronzing serums are all different packaging, so you can like pick which fits you. Ashton McGrady: Yeah, so you can what... love that we have options out there. we're coming into, again, the warmer months. So this is perfect for that. It's supposedly, like, to them, it says it's never heavy, patchy, or greasy. ⁓ I cannot stand a greasy feel. This is supposed be very, like, skincare-forward, which makes sense. But I'm interested to see. They do say a universally flattering shade, and I think they said it was also kind of, buildable. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, I don't know if I ever believe that. What? No. Ashton McGrady: to see how that... I don't believe the universally flattering, but I digress. Guess we shall see, the girlies will report back. So if you try this before we do, definitely back and let us know if you like it, if you don't like it, what you liked about it, what you didn't like about it. ⁓ I curious. Next up ⁓ is, ⁓ have never heard of this brand before, but I believe this might be a K-Beauty brain that has come to Sephora. this is Laka Fruity Glam Tent Hydrating Long-lasting Lip Stain. Again, a mouthful. I love a lip stain. love something that I can slap on. I don't necessarily have to reapply or like I can reapply a gloss on top of it and call it a day. I love something that sticks around. So definitely if we're talking about a long lasting lip stain that is right up my alley. It's supposed to be non-sticky which hello, hallelujah, can't stand a sticky lip product. Kailey Waskall: Yes. I just, this all looks so good. The icy burgundy one. Okay. Yeah. So think I'm feeling good. I think. So the base is like a frosted glass where you can see the shade inside. It looks like a cylinder. And then the top is a little bit smaller. It almost looks like a plasticy, like a light wood. Ashton McGrady: And the packaging, talk to me about it. It's so interesting. I don't know how to feel yet. Okay. Kailey Waskall: Like they were going for that wood, it is almost like there's like a diagonal to it. So one side is shorter than the other. And again, it is that like soft roundedness. And when you open it, does, it just has like the doe foot but the doe foot applicator does look a little diagonal. So it can just kind of like land on your lips. Ashton McGrady: Yeah. angled. Yeah. Kailey Waskall: It intrigues me for a lip oil this looks like based on the size of the body to the top that it is going to give you a good positioning to grip and twist it open. You can clearly see kind of where to twist, which is really exciting. Ashton McGrady: I'm not gonna lie, shade 102 Dewey Muted Mauve. Girl, I need it, I need it. And $18, okay, that's not bad for like a Sephora price point, okay? Kailey Waskall: No, truly is that I mean true at this point like drugstore is going up to $20. Yeah, ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Right, no literally, which is horrifying. They look pretty, like the swatches of them look gorgeous. And I actually, really would love to get my hand on and compare. Being cool finding a shade I really love can be hard because I feel like pulls warm on me. But I think these are beautiful. Wait, wait, wait. Kailey Waskall: wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. The body ⁓ soft corners. Ashton McGrady: period. Kailey Waskall: It's soft corners. It's not rounded. ⁓ so this I couldn't either. watched, I'm currently watching a video of someone apply them ⁓ it looks so ⁓ ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Period. couldn't tell at first, honestly looking at it. Love. Well, see? The more you know. Okay, I do actually think that this is a great option then. ⁓ the lip launches always have me in choke hold and this one, no surprise really because I'll probably talk about every Westman Atelier product. ⁓ This is the Westman Atelier Hydro Balm Sheer Tinted Lipstick. I actually this looks so gorgeous. ⁓ And before we get too into it, yes, yes, do I know it costs a bajillion trillion dollars. Am I asking you to go spend $50 on a tinted lipstick? No, I am not. Okay. I'm gonna put that out there right now. I am not asking you to spend $50 on a hydro balm tinted lipstick, but I am telling you that, unfortunately, luxury beauty sometimes does get it right with the packaging. And, Westman Atelier loves to do that magnetic packaging. Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. Ashton McGrady: This looks no different to me. Obviously I haven't put my hands on it, but it looks exactly like their others. I would assume likely also magnetic. The of the body, there's nothing special about it. As a matter of fact, it's like all white and the Westman Atelier is engraved into the body. but I do love, we also know, ⁓ a lot of their are very built up. ⁓ So that's a win. to me about it. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, yeah, this, yeah, so I love a built up product if you have a hard time kind of holding on and being really precise, because it just gives your hand more space to grip. The other thing about Westman Atelier that I really enjoy is their products are very weighted. So if you are someone which can again, be a pro or a con depending on your specific needs, but I find that a lot of Ashton McGrady: True. Kailey Waskall: People who might need a little bit more feedback into what they're holding in their hand. So it just, the weight kind of gives your body a little bit more feedback to say like, hey, this is where I am. ⁓ that then when you're applying it, you kind of know, so you're less likely to ⁓ of get it on your chin or on like you're really able to actively to your lips where you want it to be, which can be. Ashton McGrady: Right. I also feel like something great about this one is that it is a tint. it's that like sheer color. And I feel like you can be like a hair less precise with it. Like it's supposed to be like very like a little wash of color. It might have some buildability to it, but I think that gives you just like a little more leeway, you know? Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. I think this with like a lip liner would be... Ashton McGrady: Probably gorgeous. It does say that there's a refreshing cooling sensation. So my sensory sensitive babes, if you're sensory seeking, this might be wonderful. you are sensory avoidant, I don't know how to feel about that. It may worth like swatching it on my hand to like see ⁓ if it's that would bother you. ⁓ I don't but just worth noting. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, I like a feeling my lips. ⁓ a cold, icy feeling. I'm like, ooh, to the heart, this feels good. ⁓ Ashton McGrady: same. Same, the color Cafe Creme, I don't know if you've looked at these shades, but that has me in a chokehold and I need to, need to swatch that. It's so beautiful. It's a perfectly cool nude. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, I'm looking at it right now. I really, I need them to drop Westman Atelier at Ulta so I can use my points on this. Ashton McGrady: So Ulta, you're listening, if you're listening, Kaylee would like you to bring Westman Atelier into stores. That's just a personal request she's put in. Like you said, the more luxury brands, like I know Tom Ford is relatively easy to open as well because they're able to invest in the magnets and the more like Luxe packaging, which mean more accessible ⁓ it shouldn't. But right now, ⁓ doesn't Sometimes it means we're gonna make this harder to open because it's fancy. Ashton McGrady: I'm right. Sure. It doesn't always. Kailey Waskall: You're like, okay. I don't Ashton McGrady: Like, why do they do that? I don't know. so ready to talk about this next one and you know why, you know what, guys, have given, ⁓ we have been stepping Patrick Tau's neck since the conception of time. feel like we have not let this man live, ⁓ but I actually think I have ⁓ reasonably positive things to say. ⁓ that's exciting. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: Pfft Yes. Yes. Ashton McGrady: So Patrick Todd just came out the Major Skin Soft Blur Brightening Talk to me about it, Kayleigh. Kailey Waskall: Patrick Taw, thank you. So this is Corners. The thing with Patrick Taw, his packaging is consistent, right? So like the concealer packaging is Corners. It's a mirrored top, You can into the shade inside ⁓ and it matches or it with other packaging of his line, but it's gonna be easier to open use because it Ashton McGrady: What? Peace. Yeah. Kailey Waskall: is those rounded corner or not rounded. Well, kind of rounded. It's quarters. It's like a square. It has on the top too, this like little indentation ⁓ his logo, which again, the indentation piece, like, I don't know how accessible or a tactile cue of that it is because it is like precise. But I do, I do like this packaging design and I was able Ashton McGrady: It's Corners. same. Kailey Waskall: to I did get to play with this in store. ⁓ I it. I was like, okay. ⁓ I did not buy one because I was already buying dry shampoo and the summer Fred is lip stain. And I was like, I'm cut off, but yeah. Ashton McGrady: Okay, fill me in. I have heard really good things. I'm like, girl, I truly do not need another concealer. Like, I don't. Yeah, I've heard nothing but good reviews online, which I think is good sign. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, ⁓ and I did swatch it on my skin. It felt good Ashton McGrady: I'm so here for like a, did it feel kind of like serum-y, like second skin almost? Heavier? Kailey Waskall: Mm, a little heavier than a serum. It wasn't as thin as a serum, but it was very light. And once it was on, I didn't swatch it on my face. I just did the back of my hands. I could not feel it once it was blended out, which yeah. truly, yeah, I'm holding myself back from picking it up, but. Ashton McGrady: Okay. ⁓ that's nice. That's all you can ask for. There's 25 shades, it truly does look beautiful. love that, I have heard from people that it is both hydrating and blurring, which a lot of times you don't get both. I take it. I would to try this. Maybe I'll pick up a sample of it. That might be a good idea just to like get a feel for it because listen, I have some ride or die concealers, okay? Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. Ashton McGrady: Make Beauty one right now, the Skin Mimetic is my absolute favorite and I haven't been able to put that down. so I don't... it would be hard to like beat out a favorite and I don't need a concealer right now, ⁓ but if you this might be a good option. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, I think, I mean, again, we've always said Patrick Tau's formulas, top tier. So now that it's in packaging that's somewhat accessible, top tier. Try it out, let us know. See. Ashton McGrady: Spirit, thank you Patrick Toff for finally putting out a product doesn't make me angry. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: I don't hate him and I own quite a few of his lip glosses also. The plumping glosses are in the same square packaging, which really like them. They do have a bit of like a sensorial cooling effect, but I ⁓ find again, all the everything he so good, so good, but the is jail for the and eyeshadows. Ashton McGrady: same. Speaking of packaging, generally, not gonna spend a lot of time on this, but this is a complexion product that I saw come out and I was like, I like it, throw it in the trash, put it away, take it back to the lab. Unfortunately, ⁓ it's giving their brand. It doesn't make sense. Yes. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: Tell me why. Ashton McGrady: This is the Well People Skinphoria Serum Foundation. ⁓ Packaging is trash. It's one of those like you have to squeeze it out of the bottle. I think that as soon as you get down to like, I don't know, it probably take long, ⁓ much of a dent for it to be really to squeeze out. I'm sure it is thin. I'm sure it comes out easily maybe at first, but this is, I don't like it. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, and the well itself, so where the dispenser is, like underneath, ⁓ a flat surface area. So you're going to get a lot of products stuck in the corners. ⁓ yeah, I, and it looks, so it looks like a small oval that you could fit potentially in the palm of your hand. I don't know how big it is. Ashton McGrady: Yeah. It's gonna be so messy. I don't like it. Is it just me or does it look like one of those bath and body works hand sanitizers? Loki. ⁓ I think it's probably a similar size. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: yeah, does look, yes. Yes, so it does look exactly like that, but it's a twist-off cap. the, ⁓ yeah, is, meh. Ashton McGrady: And I don't know, I just, it doesn't, not a fan, but I figured I'd talk about it. It has 15 shades, supposed to be a lightweight tinted serum foundation. love that kind of thing, but this is not the packaging that I'm gonna go for when there are so many other options out there. So, next. Kailey Waskall: Yeah. Ashton McGrady: Jury's still out on ⁓ this actual product, but Fenty Hair is launching a dry shampoo. And it really reminds me of one that you really like. So give me your thoughts. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Okay. So I am a day fairy duster, dry shampoo follower cult. I enjoy it. like the scent. It's very scented. ⁓ I say ⁓ after it for, ⁓ I know, since it came out, so ⁓ years it can get challenging repetitive motion. Ashton McGrady: Yes you are. Kailey Waskall: because these are non aerosol, so the Fenty hair is coming out with a non aerosol Invisibust Volumizing Dry Shampoo. The packaging itself is like, it's a pull-off cap. It does have a texture on the top aligned with the other part of Fenty Beauty's hair, which has those nice tactile cues to differentiate And the tactile cue is big enough that you're gonna be able to tell the difference between products. That's exciting. A dry shampoo pump its pros and cons. So pro, you don't have to sustain your hold down to spray it out. So if you are someone with low strength, this be a good option because you can do lots of small pumps, right? So small, it doesn't as much strength to sustain that hold. On the other hand, if you are someone who, Ashton McGrady: Right. Kailey Waskall: gets tired easily or has pain in your hands from repetitive motion, this is gonna require quite a bit of repetitive motion to fully get all over your hair, right? Because you... Ashton McGrady: And I'm just thinking about that, like, I don't remember the name of the joint, but it's that top, like, knuckle where your finger bends. That is a particular spot of, pain for me. So like this can be really, really difficult. Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. Yeah, so in that way, the non aerosol ⁓ pump dry shampoo is not the best for you. I would likely recommend ⁓ like the Briogeo, the ones it's like little puff because that way you don't have to ⁓ dispense. And like really you can use again your whole arm to do that repetitive padding motion instead of the small tiny pieces. if really a big like component of adapting own routines ⁓ is about can I use bigger muscle bodies to manipulate this product because your hand is so small and precise, which is great, but that means it doesn't have as much strength ⁓ just anatomically. Ashton McGrady: That's smart. Great. Kailey Waskall: So the, sorry. Ashton McGrady: Look at you just knowing stuff. it I feel like our listeners do love it. I'm just here to be like, ⁓ yeah, and smells good and it looks pretty. We make a team because she's like, Kaylee's like, I'm gonna school you. ⁓ And I'm like, and it's purple and pretty. Kailey Waskall: just, like to nerd out on this stuff because I find that if you can explain the why behind why I recommend something or behind why something is gonna work better for you, then you're able to kind of form your own, like can take that knowledge base and be like, can apply this to other stuff in my life. ⁓ Ashton McGrady: Apply it to other things. Yeah. I love that. And it does say like this was inspired by, this is so interesting to me, by their like setting and blotting powder. So they really like took that and literally just like put it into this bottle ready to use for your hair because the same kind of concept, right? Like they're using tapioca starch, they're using rice starch. It's to help remove that buildup and the oil. I have like a super... Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. Ashton McGrady: hair is very fine, so that happens very quickly where it gets dull flat and greasy and gross. And I love an option like this the powder options for So I think that'll be great. They did say it will also smell like, I don't know if if my listeners out there ⁓ have smelled the Amber Bouquet, they released it in a mist, but that's what this dry shampoo smells like. So I don't know, worth noting that is. ⁓ Probably quite scented, but this is like on having options, just like we were just talking about. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, Fenty Beauty Fenty Hair, so, so good. Highly recommend if you are in the market for like new shampoo or conditioner. These products are relatively accessible to use and just overall great. Love to support them. Ashton McGrady: I wish ⁓ they would have done or would include a more outward marketing about how their products are more accessible, because I feel like it was very, very intentional, ⁓ but I feel like they haven't done a lot marketing around that. So we don't know as an audience, but I can assess a product and look at it and be like, yeah, that was clearly intentional. There's just certain things that I'm like, yeah, they didn't do that by accident. Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. yeah, no, the different textures per top. Yeah, is definitely intentional. are working apparently some pretty cool people who can make products accessibly. Okay. I want to your on this. This is the Beauty Cool Cheek Stain. Ashton McGrady: Yeah. I, Kailey Waskall: It looks a lip balm. Ashton McGrady: Listen. It does. Kailey Waskall: What else? Ashton McGrady: Okay, it does have that cooling metal tip, which the only reason I'm like, ⁓ about that is because are you really applying this straight to face? I don't think so. Personally, don't think I am. I'm gonna swipe this on because it's a stain, right? I think that's one thing to talk about in accessibility too, the workability of a product. Like how much work time do I have with it before it is stuck where it's stuck? So like that concerns me a little bit about stains sometimes. the packaging itself it looks like a traditional balm but it is a screw off top and I actually think this might be a little hard because it's also likely not a huge product. So I know. I think the packaging is matte. It's A little hard to tell looking at it, honestly. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, it could be right in between. don't know. Ashton McGrady: Yeah, it kind of looks don't know how to explain this. Like can ⁓ matte packaging be, yeah, maybe. Because I like, can matte packaging be glossy? Not really, but yeah, maybe it's like a demi matte situation. Kailey Waskall: like a Demi-Mat. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I when I'm looking at this if you are someone who loves a lip balm twist-off squeeze That's this product if you are someone who does not love a lip balm twist-off squeeze This is not gonna be the product for you. Yeah It is the same with a little flat metal tip so that it's not Ashton McGrady: That's for you. No, because it's the same. Kailey Waskall: it's not meant for your lips so it's not that tilted so it's meant to just I guess kind of like dab on or do you think you use it and you just kind of like roll it on your face? Ashton McGrady: ⁓ no girl, not like a roller though. do mean? Kailey Waskall: No, but if it's flat and the product is serum-y enough, you like- Ashton McGrady: Maybe. Yeah, if you have enough time to work with it and it's not just gonna slap a stain ⁓ wherever on your face, I guess yeah. But I would definitely need, is one of those products I would definitely need to play with it in store instead of just picking it up willy-nilly because need time to work with it. don't want it to just like stain immediately and look like crazy on my face. I don't also just don't know if this packaging is for me. I love dibs. like they make some, like their formulas are wonderful, but I just don't know if this is the product for me. Even though again, I said towards the beginning of this podcast, I love a stain product, like something that's gonna stick around and I don't have to retouch it because again, less steps, less effort throughout my day is always preferred, but. I don't know. I have a lot of blushes. The jury's still out for me. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, I wonder how gimmicky the cooling tip for a blush stain is. Because what is the point of a cooling tip on a product? Ashton McGrady: What is the point? Okay, I will say on a lip product, I love that. Kailey Waskall: No, yeah, this is an actual question. What is the point of a cooling tip on a product? Ashton McGrady: who are you posing it to? I love the way it feels on a lip product. I feel like it's very like soothing, cooling. I also love it on an eye cream. I feel like that's an incredible feeling, especially because a lot of those products, it depends on the formula. So I'm not speaking to it, but especially when you're talking like skincare, you can put it in the fridge girl and pull that out and put it on your under eye. That feels so good. But a cheek stain? Kailey Waskall: You, like what does it do? Mm-hmm. I don't know. I don't want to hate on it then because if we like the under eye and we like the lip maybe Ashton McGrady: Maybe, maybe it's for somebody. I'm not gonna yuck somebody's yum, okay? Kailey Waskall: ⁓ Ashton McGrady: I also don't need more of this next product, ⁓ but will I be purchasing it? Yes, I've already decided. I don't need to think about it. This is shade extension of the Half Magic Glitter Pucks. Four, eyes, face, and body. If you've never tried this product, it is truly one of the most unique products in my collection, and I love it down so bad. Kailey Waskall: It's delicious. It's great. I actually also have it already in my Ulta cart. Ashton McGrady: It's so good. so if you guys haven't seen it yet, the new shade is Princess Ghost, which is such a cutie name. And shade is this ⁓ gorgeous, blue, blue. It's giving Cinderella to me. I don't know about you, but it reminds me so much of Cinderella. ⁓ Kailey Waskall: Yes. Yes. No, it is giving me Cinderella. looks fabulous. I, this is like my childhood as a color, truly. Ashton McGrady: same. I feel like this could really play into that like Y2K like I just something about I'm thinking like blue eyeshadow yeah it's gorgeous if you haven't tried these before it's a very ⁓ formula where it's almost this water gel based like very pigment sparkles that you apply Kailey Waskall: Yes. Ashton McGrady: literally just anywhere as it says like eyes, face, body. so cool. It is gorgeous. I have tried so many glitter toppers and glitter gels and so many things nothing hits like this. Kailey Waskall: No, this is, when I travel, it's this the Urban Decay space Ashton McGrady: I want to give a with this is not the most innovative packaging. It probably makes sense for what it is. ⁓ I wanna talk about it because I know you've talked about it on your platforms. We've kind of chatted about it. When you open up this like little jar, ⁓ it's this flat jar almost. top is matte and the bottom is clear. So you see the shade inside, which is good if you want to buy every shade like Kailey Waskall: No. Mm-hmm. Ashton McGrady: ⁓ but this is one of those products where I know you've recommended like using your palm or I could see something like Dyson or texture stickers or something like that coming into play. I really feel like you need something to adapt this plus inside the added bonus is that because this is so watery and like the specific ⁓ texture this product needs to be preserved, there's that little like ⁓ a of almost like foam inside. Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. Yeah, it's like a little sponge inside to preserve it, which requires a little pinch to get it out. Ashton McGrady: Yes, so talk about it. Tell me how somebody at home, if they really loved, if they were really sewn on this product, how they could maybe adapt it for various needs, make it a little easier to interact with. Kailey Waskall: this such good question. I think first playing around with ⁓ the best way for you try to get it out. you can, because it's spongy and it's a little bit more mobile than like a thick plastic piece, ⁓ you can kind of use your like your knuckles ⁓ or the side to roll it instead having to pinch. So that would be kind of like the first. ⁓ line of defense of just trying to maneuver your hand in a different way and see if there's one way that works for you. That's easy. Doesn't impact pain levels. then if that doesn't work because you're like, no, ⁓ don't do that to me. Something that ⁓ I not personally tried this, actually might need try this before I truly recommend it. But if you get a small piece of ribbon and some glue, can make the sponge almost like a little powder puff. ⁓ Thank you. Ashton McGrady: You're literally so smart. Wow, you have a degree in this crazy, anyway. Kailey Waskall: You can where I offer one-on-one self care and makeup lessons. ⁓ Yeah, this is basically what we do. We just go through and like identify. Yeah. ⁓ So you can like glue and even if the two fingers doesn't work where like you don't wanna get through a powder puff, you could even just do one piece. it's like a little lifted baby ribbon so that you can pull it up ⁓ because... ⁓ Ashton McGrady: See? It hit Kaylee up. Figure out how to use your favorite products. That's so important. Yeah. Kailey Waskall: way, again, you're not having to pinch ⁓ use as much product. ⁓ other thing I have heard some makeup artists say, not specifically Donnie Davey for this one, ⁓ but this is a product that you use every single day and you're going to use it ⁓ very sometimes you don't really need the sponge. And ⁓ I would just adapting the sponge to keep it pristine. But if this is something that you use every day, I have heard people say you're gonna go through it before it like changes. So that ⁓ is the final option, but I think doing a ribbon or adjusting. Ashton McGrady: Right. I actually think I'm gonna do that to mine now. That's so smart. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, do it and let me know. I would be interesting to know what type of glue actually sustains hold on the sponge. I feel like my initial thoughts would be E6000, but I feel like that might eat through it. So potentially a hot glue gun, I think would be. Ashton McGrady: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I'll have to play around with it and see, but that's so smart. And I know you've mentioned before setting the product on top ⁓ a piece of Dyson or like if you have one of those like silicone jar openers, either setting it on top of those and or using one on top or both, honestly, if that it easier for you. ⁓ I think are a lot of ways to make this easier. ⁓ Do I it's the most accessible packaging right up front? Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. Ashton McGrady: No, do I think the product is unfortunately so good and like unique that I can't really replace it with anything else in my collection? Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at. Kailey Waskall: Yes. Yes. Half Magic is so good. Ashton McGrady: That's for my glitter girlies. If you are a glitter fairy, ethereal, whimsical little bitch, that's you, half magic for It's so good. It has no business being that good, but really is. I love having fun with makeup and I will that till the cows come home. I just think that we need to have more fun with makeup, bring back fun, colorful makeup. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, it's so good. It's so good. Ashton McGrady: Bring back glitter. I'm tired of the clean girl aesthetic. Give me glitter and some crazy colors. And I love, I do love this like Cinderella blue that they've come out with. And I hope to see more. would love to see pudding. Like there's no doubt about it. And you can see it in their marketing. this is a very, I want, pigmented? Is that even the right word? Kailey Waskall: gonna be so good. ⁓ yeah. ⁓ reflective. Ashton McGrady: Yeah, I don't, packs a lot of sparkle and like you can, I feel like you can see it so well. It's not a product that's going to crease on you either. It lasts for a super long time. And they market it as this grownup glitter which I think is just so fun and cutesy. Kailey Waskall: Yeah, no, it is a need. Highly recommend if you don't own a shade and if you don't and you want to start with one. It's my favorite. The original, the dopamine sparkle. I also have the cyber diamond, the platinum silver. I like, but I like the dopamine sparkle for every day. Ashton McGrady: What's your favorite? ⁓ Yeah. Yeah, I do. It's pretty, but I still think I tend to go for the dopamine spark. Kailey Waskall: Don't own the icy champagne, the glimmer pop one. Yeah, that one reminds. Yeah, and the glimmer pop, the icy champagne does remind me of space cowboy, which this half magic pops more of a punch but the actual like tonage of it seems similar to me. but I will be buying blue one directly after we get off this call. Cause I, I Ashton McGrady: And I will be getting that immediately, actually. Okay, the last one we're gonna talk about, guys, is hourglass is dropping the Unreal Liquid Highlighter. I have some thoughts, I have thoughts and they aren't really good ones. I'm gonna be so honest, I'm gonna be so honest. I have the blush. they make that is in this exact same packaging. ⁓ like a liquid blush very serum II is the formula beautiful. Yes But packaging is actually horrendous. It's not I ⁓ Think it more strength by far than I thought it would ⁓ Why did buy this? I don't know. Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. So I think I can tell you because Danessa Myricks has something very similar in their blurring liquid primer. And when I first saw that packaging, because that was the first time I had seen packaging like this, so for listeners, it is like a twist-off cap with a tiny dispenser that you actually, instead of squeezing the bottle, you press on the Ashton McGrady: Describe it. Describe it for me. I don't like it. ⁓ yes. Kailey Waskall: bottom of the container to dispense the product. So you kind of got to flip it upside down and then push down. There's like a thin, almost like a rubberized feeling on the bottom that you push to dispense. So I saw this in Danessa Myricks years ago and my first thought was, this could be accessible because you're not squeezing, right? But the more I looked at it, Ashton McGrady: Yeah. Right. Kailey Waskall: the more I realized that it's actually reducing the amount of ways that you can interact with the product. Yeah. So get the amount of product out, it can require a lot of pressing. It also is requiring the tiny muscles of your hands because you have to use your fingers to push down, but it's not a pump. So you have to potentially give even more repetitive motion, especially as it gets more and more because it doesn't have like the pumps have that like airless, right? Where what, it's the same amount of pressure that you're pushing. when you get towards the bottom, might have to push a few more times to get the same amount. ⁓ for this, I found that as the Dinesse Myricks and ⁓ I haven't used the hourglass ones, but as the product left, Like as we used it, I found myself having to push with more force to get the same result. ⁓ which ⁓ was Ashton McGrady: I'm not loving it. It's coming out in five shades. They have like a champagne, a little light pink, a yellow gold, a bronze, then like a warmer bronze, and then a copper rose. I do think the shades are beautiful. I personally know from my experience with the blush that this packaging is not for me. Maybe it's for Kailey Waskall: Do you, ⁓ when you are looking at liquid highlighters, what is your preferred Like, do prefer a squeeze? Do you prefer a pump? Or let's say, would you prefer the squeeze or would you prefer this? Ashton McGrady: I... I tell you what I really like to use? I like the Say Glowy Super Gel. Yeah. It just like, I feel like I have more control, especially The Glowy Super Gel thicker, so I know it's not gonna like run all over my face and like maybe some people don't prefer that, but I feel like it gives me time to work with the product. I feel like it does come out... Kailey Waskall: Yeah. The pump. The pump. Mm-hmm. Ashton McGrady: fairly easily with the pump for me personally. And I the formula obviously, but I know my experience with the blush and I would assume just looking at it that this formula is probably fairly similar. It's a very thin liquid too. So that's just like something to know. Kailey Waskall: Mm-hmm. Because it has to be right to dispense without, yeah, without much like squeeze, right? Because you are just using your finger at the other end. Ashton McGrady: Out of that, yeah. I often recommend Fenty Beauty, which is or Sephora. I often recommend House Labs, which is a Sephora. I often recommend Rare Beauty, which is now at Ulta and Sephora. I often recommend ⁓ half magic, not for, I guess, the accessibility, but just because I love the products that's at Ulta. When I think of the amount of brands that Ulta has, they are also getting a whole bunch of K-Beauty brands this year, which really has that innovative packaging. it also has, I think, looking at accessibility from a disability perspective, the packaging wise, ⁓ but also looking at the price I think Ulta has Ashton McGrady: So many. Kailey Waskall: many products ⁓ on all the way through prestige so they are Ashton McGrady: So looking at it as accessibility from that standpoint too, know, any barriers we can remove to make products to use, easier to purchase, more accessible price etc. I'm here for it. I agree, but simply because they have a slew of brands, a slew of products, they have drugstore, they have like ⁓ more like premium they really have it And I just don't think you can find that really anywhere else. Kailey Waskall: I do think Sephora is a close second, which I like Ulten Sephora, but I do think Sephora has quite a few brands ⁓ like Westman Atelier, the Tom Ford. But I think when we're looking across the entirety, Ulta Beauty is number one. And The third one that sometimes has accessible products is the blue mercury because they do house those more luxury brands, they're very like ⁓ as many options and most of the options are fairly expensive. Ashton McGrady: Yeah. Right. Again, and we've said this before, the more options you have available, the more likely you are to find something that is accessible to your specific needs because as we all know, or you hopefully do know if you're listening to this podcast or you're a regular listener, that disability is such a spectrum and even within the same disability, our individual needs are so different.
