jonathan: What's going on everybody? Grab your popcorn and turn up the volume everyone. This is the Popcorn Power Podcast. My name is John and with me is my co-host, James. James: What's up everyone? How we doing out there? jonathan: Doing very well right now. That's a fire intro if I've ever heard one. Gets me going. Let's do this. this is the Popcorn Power podcast where we will be discussing everything about movies, different topics all the time, all different things from actors, actresses, films. we're gonna have different segments for the show. James: This is this is a pet project, it's been a long time coming. It's it's a combination of our love of movies, our strong opinions about things, you know. And like the tagline says, you know, you have your movie opinion and we're gonna explain to you why it's wrong. Simple as that. So this first episode we're gonna kinda dive into a little bit of who we are, try to give you a little background, not so much on our personal life, but more of our movie life, you know. Movies we love, movies we hate, people we like to see, and just talk a little bit about what makes movies so important to us. John, you know, you and I have been friends for a very long time. We've you know seen a lot of movies together, we talk movies, you know. So what to you is the pinnacle of the movie experience? So like why do you love movies so much? jonathan: an escape from reality. you know, it's something that, you know, go to enjoy, whether it's a movie theater experience with family, friends, who or whoever, or just, you know, sitting at home watching a good movie and taking your mind off everyday life, we just wanna dive into something that we're gonna fully enjoy, whether it's a comedy or horror. action movie, animated, drama, award type movies or just movies that, just wanna shut your mind off and get away from the everyday problems of life and just enjoy yourself. there are some good stuff and then there's some shit experiences. And unfortunately there's a lot of shit and you know, we gotta segue through the shit and you gotta find the good in everything. It's always a fun time watching a movie, whether it's a good time or a bad time, you still have fun. James: No, I w I would absolutely agree with you on that. I think I think you hit it right on the head with it's an escape from reality. you know, I love watching movies, just just for the stories, you know, s the art that goes into it, the the making of the films. I was always obsessed with how movies are made, you know, the behind the scenes stuff. I always used to watch those on the D V D menus, you know. production and things like that, which is really why we kinda wanted to get into this podcast because we love we love jonathan: DVDs. People some people don't know what D V Ds are, bro. James: So, you Gen Z or freaks, it's a little round disc you used to put on, jonathan: my god. James: and before that they used to come in these little square plastic things that you had to rewind to to watch them. yeah. So that kinda jonathan: Be be kind, rewind. James: god, I miss Blockbuster. yeah, so that kinda segues me into this next kind of topic I wanted to have with you. I just wanna talk to you a little bit about what's going on. jonathan: You you having a rant? Nah, these these folks are not ever gonna get a rant out of you. Never. James: Nah, I'm I'm such a such a humble, quiet person, you know? Anyway, so just the overall movie experience and how it kinda caters to this new generation of people. I went to the movies recently. Have you been to the movies with like I would say in the last six months? jonathan: Yeah, recently I saw the new Spider Man brand new day in the movies. before that, not as often as I used to go to, but I think Jurassic World Rebirth I went to go see with my son. So different James: Mm. jonathan: different types of movies I go to see now in the movie theaters, James: I've noticed I go to the movies now and I may sound like an old man and I really don't care. You know, I'm I'm a millennial. You know, there's no hiding that fact. This this new generation of people can't hold an attention span of longer than thirty seconds without looking at their phone, talking. Movie theatre etiquette is out the window and it's bleeding into actual movies where I'm noticing nowadays movies they have constant theme shifts every thirty to forty five seconds. And I I'm noticing like just movies in general suck now. I mean, unless you're like jonathan: Wow. Wow. James: like an established director, I'm gonna I'm gonna throw the movie out there just because I recently watched it and You know, all the young movie critics out there who are like, This is the greatest movie, this is changing the game I jonathan: I know exactly where you're going with this. James: It's backrooms. Did you see the back rooms? jonathan: I I no, I thought I thought I didn't think you were gonna go this route. I thought you were going a different movie here. James: Obsession. jonathan: I was definitely thought you were going obsession. Backroom, I have heard I've James: So my f my thing with obs jonathan: heard this was like the top horror of twenty twenty six and James: It was awful. jonathan: I haven't I I can't speak on it. I haven't seen it yet. It's still, you know It's still 2026, so I'm gonna get to it because I'm James: Yeah. jonathan: a big horror guy. I have heard stuff on it. I don't hold anything too high with opinions lately of stuff I've been seeing because you know I'll segue into obsession. Everyone t told me this movie was revolutionary and how it's the one of the greatest horror movies of all time. Let's pump the brakes here. Let's James: Not even close. jonathan: it's a good creepy movie. It's creepy. That doesn't mean it's scary. There was nothing horror is supposed to scare you. Horror is supposed to make give you a jump scare, a thriller type thing. I felt nothing. like that with I just felt like I was watching like a a psychological mind trip I was like, this is this is good. It's not a top ten horror movie of all time. James: Not even close. And I'm I'm gonna agree with you on that because like like what I was saying is these these new movies, like, they change their theme within the movie every forty five seconds to kind of keep you entertained, keep you keep you going. Like, tell a story. Like just tell a story. Like don't cater to to the imbeciles who can't stop looking at their phone just tell a decent story. Now I'm gonna I'm gonna backtrack a little bit with with Obsession. Obsession you're you're a hundred percent right. It was a good s creepy movie. jonathan: Yes. James: It there was no jump scares, and let's be honest, the acting in it was Trocious. Atrocious. jonathan: Everyone's telling everyone is telling me this the lead actress is James: She was good. jonathan: she listen she was good she d again it's not like academy like people are like she should get nominated for an Academy Award. I'm like what what did I miss? She stood James: What are we doing? What are we doing? jonathan: in a room where she just defecated on herself. That's not acting. James: It would be acting if she actually did it. jonathan: let's let's let's pump the brakes again, okay? I don't wanna see that. I don't wanna see that. James: Hey, hey, listen, listen. I think in his heyday, Daniel Day Lewis would have defecated on himself for an actor. jonathan: I mean Daniel Day Lewis I if you if Daniel Day Lewis is in obsession, then you know, might be a different movie. James: but yeah, so this is a little taste of what you're gonna hear on this podcast, guys. We got opinions, we're strong about it. One thing you'll notice with us is we don't listen to critics. We find critics, movie critics, to be one of the lowest forms of entertainment reviewers. Mainly because everybody thinks, they're a genius in this certain field. No. Listen, do I do movie reviews? I half ask them. I'll tell you if it was a good movie or not in my opinion. Again, you have your opinions. They're wrong. That's why jonathan: Wow. James: we're here. We're here to educate. This is an educational podcast, guys. You didn't know. You were coming here to learn. That's right. jonathan: For a learning experience game. James: That's right. That's right. That's right. And we're gonna teach you. We're gonna teach you right now what's good and what's not good. John, what's your top five favorite movies of all time? We're gonna throw it right in there. But I'm jonathan: well. James: gonna hold off on that one. I want you to give me your reason why. Don't just be like, jonathan: Okay. James: it's a good movie because it's on AFI's jonathan: All right. James: top freaking one hundred movies of all time. No, I wanna know why you think it's a good movie. jonathan: you may not agree with everything, but you know one of my favorite movies of all time, if not the favorite movie of all time for me, is Goodfellas. And I know you okay, you could make that sound all you want. The acting, the d Scorsese directing it, the cast, the cinematography, the way it's filmed, the story behind it, the flow of the movie. For me is another very big thing in any good movie. I need a good flow to Goodfellas to me. Beginning to end, flow. S it doesn't drop the ball really. Like at any points. It's like, okay, it it may slow down a little bit, but it picks back up. And you know, the dialogue the characters, like you you feel like you get to know these characters through the movie. There's like, okay, Ray Leota's character, you see him as a kid, then you see him grow up. Then you see him as gets in the mob. Then you see him become a junkie. Then you and it's just like this whole different like aspect of like you know, we knew like about the mob and everything and the mafia you saw different characters and stuff. you know, even like the the little characters, Samuel Jackson's character in the movie. Sax. Loved loved loved the cameo by Samuel L. Jackson. He was like, you had one of your bitches in here. Yeah, I did. Where the fuck is she? Love that. Love that scene. It's just a good flow to the movie. It's good acting. The cast is perfect together. And you know the the f like I said, the flow and everything and it's just for me it's you know, a good overall movie. So what I'll give you now is you could give me your review on my review and you can tell me about my opinion and everything, and if you think my opinion is wrong, I don't give a fuck. So James: Ha ha ha. jonathan: but yeah, your takeaway on that and like what you think of even if you want to say what you think of Goodfellas or if you think whatever. James: I shit on you with when it comes to Goodfellas just because I genuinely don't get the hype around it. That jonathan: Okay. James: being said, I prefer his subsequent movies to Goodfellas, but I will give props where props is due. There's no casino without goodfellas. So I'll give it its roses. I understand it. I think jonathan: Okay. James: I think the story is a fantastic story. I'll be honest, I don't like Ray Leota in it. I think they could have found somebody else to be Henry Hill. That being s yeah, that being said, that's the only weakness to that movie. Him jonathan: I get that. I get that and I but I think I think I think but I think Ray Leoda was like just such a perfect like when he becomes like a a junkie, like Ray Leota's like it's like yeah, Ray Leota looks like a fucking junkie in the movie. James: Yeah. I I think you could have either done without Ray Leota or you could have kept Ray Leota and got rid of Lorraine Bracco. But both of them together mm, there was something about it. There was something about it where yeah, I jonathan: Yeah, I agree to disagree. Loved it. James: I mean you could disagree all you want. You're wrong, but that's what I'm saying. jonathan: All right, you can James: But literally the rest of that movie was carried by its supporting cast, with Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Paul Servino. They were all the ones that carried that film. You know, jonathan: Okay. James: Joe Pesci's a psychopath in anything that he plays mob related, we know that. But that one scene with Robert De Niro smoking the cigarette at the bar when the guy's a about to come ask for his money and they play that Jimi Hendrix song Doo doo doo doo boop boop boo doom Yeah. jonathan: Mm. the yeah, just the look and everything he gives, yeah. James: That that is probably the best scene in the whole movie. jonathan: Alright. James: all right. So that's your first that's your number one? All right, I'll I'll I'll I'll take that. jonathan: It's listen, it may it may not be in any order. I'm just I'm s listen, I'm gonna give you some James: Okay. jonathan: some of my thoughts and I'll kick it to you now. You give me one of your top fives. And maybe maybe I James: I would s jonathan: maybe I'll have maybe I'll agree with you on it. Probably won't. Because I already James: Probably not. Probably not. jonathan: know one of them that's coming and I'm gonna shit all over you. James: No you don't. You don't know my top five. You don't know me. What do you know? Anyway, I jonathan: Okay. All right. James: I'm gonna say one one of my favorite movies of all time is a classic. It's a classic nineteen jonathan: my god. James: forty two film. jonathan: my god, stop this. Where are we going with this? my god, here we go. What are you gonna tell me? Here we go. Come on, gimme this I do have class. What are you doing? Come on. James: What what's what's the matter? You don't like black and white, you uncultured swine? This guy. This guy has no class. He's got no class. Lad ladies and gentlemen. Casablanca is the greatest movie ever made. It's got everything you want jonathan: my god my god my god James: in it. Name one name one thing wrong with Casablanca. It's got no jonathan: I James: colour. jonathan: I didn't say that. I didn't say that. I understand but you're talking about it shouldn't be on this list because blah blah blah. That is on every fucking critic's list. So you just s you just you James: I don't give a shit what the credits say. jonathan: just you just told everyone that about how you know, th I don't want your top five because it's on this list. This movie is on AFI's it's number one. First of all probably it's two, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. James: That's number two. jonathan: I'm so sorry. I get it. I understand all kidding aside, I get why you have it in the top five. To me, I'm gonna s let you you give your opinions on it, and then I will Tell you why it's not in my top five, but I don't hate it. I'm not gonna shit on you. I'm just saying, I'm just saying. James: Fuck why it's not in your top five. But but listen, no, in in in my defense, that movie has everything. It's got romance, it's got jonathan: It does. James: action, it's got comedy. It's classically jonathan: It does. James: directed. Humphrey Bogart is the ultimate machismo man of the nineteen forties back then. jonathan: my god. James: You know, Rick everybody wanted to be Rick. You know, he's got his own bar, jonathan: god. James: he's got Sam, he's got the girl He's got everything. And as the movie plays out with the Germans showing up and then the French resistance, and it's just a perfect movie. It's got quotes that everybody knows them, whether jonathan: It it does. James: you've seen the movie or not. Name one quote from Goodfellas that everybody knows. Besides one. How am I funny? That's it. That's it. That's all you got. I got. Here's looking at you kid. I got I stick my neck out for no one. jonathan: my god my god stop that James: Come on. That's the great the greatest movie ever made. Ever made. Hands down. Hands down. What's your number two? What's your number two? What's your number two? jonathan: Okay, okay. Alright, listen. I'm gonna put listen, you can say what you want. I'm gonna say Forrest Gump is in my top five. James: Same. It's in mind. jonathan: Okay, so yeah, I mean we both listen, James: Forest Gump has everything. jonathan: listen, we guys and girls, Tom Hanks is a national treasure to the both of us. That you're gonna hear a lot of Tom Hanks love through the episodes and stuff coming up. But there are s listen, there are some movies that he missed. Forest Gump he didn't miss. Forest Gump he James: N nobody missed in that movie. jonathan: Nobody missed. As much and I hate Jenny so much in that movie. James: Yeah, J Jenny Jen jonathan: For what she did to that she was a she was a piece of garbage. James: Jenny Jenny is on the list of ain't shit people when it comes to the to the cinema pantheon of ain't shit people. She's up there. jonathan: She's definitely up there. James: we could do a whole episode on eight shit people in movies. I I know a couple of characters on there. But yeah, Forest Gump is probably Tom Hanks' best film. You know, in nineteen ninety four, Robin Zemeckis directed it. and everybody in it was just perfect. Gary Sinise was perfect. Robin Wright, whether you liked the character or not, was fantastic in it. Sally Field was fantastic in it. Even the jonathan: Yeah. James: supporting cast, Bubba was fantastic in it. The friggin' the jonathan: Baba. James: Yeah, Bubba. The even the the like no the no line bit part guys, like the guy that Jenny was with at the Black Panther Party, he was fantastic in it. jonathan: Fucking piece of shit. I'm sorry I ruined your Black Panther party. James: You know what mean? yeah Sorry I caused a fi it's a Black Panther party. jonathan: So good. It's not supposed to it's not supposed to be funny it seems, but it's so funny. James: Do believe in No. It's not. Do you believe in God Forrest? I didn't know. I was supposed to be looking for him, Lieutenant Dan. jonathan: Ha ha James: I think I live by that quote at least once a day. I didn't know I was supposed to be looking for him. jonathan: he k he goes like this he goes like think I try my sea legs. But you ain't got no legs, Lieutenant Dan. I know that you idiot. James: Yes, I know that, you idiot. Ugh. jonathan: So yeah, far as gone. The d even the even the the the music in the movie, that that opening that's so good. It's so good. Alright James: Mm. It is. It is. It's it's a it's a sweet story about a simple man who changed the world. I love it. jonathan: Really dead. James: Alright, what's your number three since we both had that on there? jonathan: I have Shawshank Redemption. James: Of all time? jonathan: Yeah. It's it's yeah, it's it's James: Yeah. Yeah. jonathan: another perfectly cast movie. the flow of the movie from when he's incarcerated, his it shows the progression of the years in jail, the character development of all the people that are with him, that he's gross draws friendships with, the deals he makes with the guards and stuff, how he has to survive in prison. The character Roman Reig Roman Reigns, Jesus Christ. Red, Morgan Freeman. shut up. Alright. I meant I meant to say red. James: T shirt's getting tea. I d I get it. jonathan: I meant to say red. And I I meant I typed I combined Morgan Freeman with red and I went I almost said Rogan Freeman. So and I just went Roman Reigns. I don't know why. But James: That's funny. That's funny. jonathan: no, Morgan Freeman, Tim Robbins play off each other amazing. The warden is a fuck it James: He's a bastard. jonathan: bastard character. The the lead guard is James: Mr. Krebs. jonathan: is another bastard. James: Yeah. No, it that that's a that's a fantastic movie. Brooks. jonathan: The Librarian. The librarian in the movie. Brooks. Bro, that scene when he gets out of jail and he can't adapt to the wor Bro that I he James: That's jonathan: he he my god. So sad. I mean James: Yeah, th I I'll agree with you. It's a good one. I wouldn't put it in my top five of all time, but I do agree it's a good movie. There's very little parts of that movie that you could shit on. I will say Tim Robbins was good in it, but he was a very one note pony throughout the whole movie, but that was his character, so I'm not gonna shit on him for that. Like I've seen jonathan: Ex Exactly. James: Tim Robbins act. Like Tim Robbins in Jacob's ladder, I know the man can act, so I know like that character was very just one note. So I'll agree with you on that. for my third pick, I'm gonna go with Braveheart. I know nowadays people cannot accept the fact that Mel Gibson at one time was one of the jonathan: Was James: greatest actors that ever lived. He was a fa yeah, jonathan: I was he was the guy who James: he was a fantastic director. you know, he drank a little too much and opened his mouth a little too wide and pretty much ruined his career. however, Braveheart goes down in history as one of the greatest movies of all time. It has to. It it's it's scenes jonathan: I d I don't hate I don't hate that pick. I I James: by scene by scene are beautifully shot. Everybody in the movie is fantastic from Gleason, you got Gleason, you got Merceau who plays the the princess his wife, the actress is blanket out on me, the guy who plays the king, everybody in that movie was fantastic. And it it's jonathan: Yeah, it's James: gut wrenching. The ending is not a happy ending, which is jonathan: No. James: as real and as visceral as it gets. jonathan: But his he he delivered a message to everybody and then they it's James: it was it was perfect. jonathan: I I don't I don't hate it. I won't shit on that one. if it is James: Yeah. jonathan: for for your top five, it's for me that would just be a little outside my top five, so I'm not gonna be like, I can't understand how you put it up there. So I respect it. I give you that. I give you the flowers, I give Mel Gibson the praise on Braveheart. And if you don't, you think that movie's bad, your opinion is wrong. alright, so you gave three, so I've got another one. I'm gonna you're gonna hate me. You're gonna hate me right now. Going back to the mob well. James: Jesus Christ. jonathan: I gotta put the Godfather in there. James: You're lucky you said Godfather. You're lucky you said Godfather. Okay. Woo. jonathan: No no no no no no no no no You gotta you gotta put Mar y you could put one or two I'm gonna go James: Yeah, no, okay. Wait wait wait. What a t okay. jonathan: I'm gonna go one James: Alright, no, okay, fine. Ooh, you scared me. jonathan: I I'm not saying two is worse or better. So some people have two above one, and I I get that. I I I really get it. One though for me, Marlon Brando, Pacino, Robert Duval, James Kahn, Diane Keaton, Talia Shire, James: All of Yo, Diane Keaton is another ain't shit fucking character, especially in two. In two? jonathan: No, are you talking about Diane Keene or Talia Shire? alright. Well yeah, alright. Alright. No, James: His wife Michael's wife in two? jonathan: I think I think Talia Shire is an idiot. She's a moron. James: the sister? Yeah, she's a Momo, but in two Diane Keaton with it was a son, Michael, and I killed him. I couldn't bring it off just God. Anyway, no, I I agree, I agree. I jonathan: Yeah, but that's too and in the in the first James: was like this is gonna be a fruckin' Mutadel Gobbleghool frickin' list. But you pivoted. I'll take that. The Godfather is a great jonathan: Nah. Godfather that scene James: movie. jonathan: the got the scene when Marlon Brando says, Look what they did to my boy That you can feel the pain and the gut wrench as a father. James: Look how they massacred my boy. jonathan: And then Michael transforming from the the goody two-shoe saint of the family into the the new leader of the family, the Corley on Crime family. That last couple of scenes It's one of the the greatest scenes shot in cinema history. When they're panning to all the different things that are going on while he's baptizing The child, do you renounce Satan and everything and everything's go I'm like this is Bravo. Ma this words of score says he masterpiece. Beautiful. James: Yeah. Cinema. jonathan: S at it, absolute cinema. James: Cinema. I will agree with you. I think Marlon Brando killed it. everybody in the movie killed it. I think that was the wor Yo, when he was hitting him with that trash can Chef's kiss. Yep. jonathan: James Cobb beating the shit out of the guy in the street. So good. He puts his hand on the thing and he bites he bites his hand. And then his fucking sister gets him set up and killed. Idiot. James: I I think that was the world's introduction to Al Pacino. He did a couple of bit pieces here and there, but he was mainly like a stage actor at that point. Yeah, Al Pacino wa jonathan: I agree with that. James: wa was fantastic. My only my only gripe with that movie is when Michael goes back jonathan: It's no great. James: to Italy. yeah. He falls in love. He has a whole he has a whole family and then she dies. He's like and then he goes, I guess I can go back to America now Boom. jonathan: it was a whole life. Apollon Apollonia That was fucking brutal James: Yeah. jonathan: I didn't see that comin' James: Nobody did. No, I alright, I'll take that one. Alright, so what do we got? That was four? jonathan: That was my fourth, so now I need your James: Okay. jonathan: fourth. James: Nineteen eighties The Shining. Ha ha ha. jonathan: Okay. I I mean, I d I like the Shining. I wouldn't put it in my top five. It's a fucked up move all right, I'll let you explain why it's in. James: So I So I put the Shining on there because Stanley Kubrick is my favorite director and I had to put a Kubrick film on here. And I was like, do I go the typical 2001 of Space Odyssey? Do I go the really far fetched and say things like Spartacus or Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket? jonathan: S James: but the Shining to me is the perfect thriller. It's so it's it's a it's a psychological thriller as much as it is a horror movie. And every all the purists out there that's like, it was nothing like the book. Yeah, I didn't I don't I'm not reading a book. I'm watching a movie. It was his interpretation of jonathan: Okay. James: it and I think it was perfect. And Jack Nicholson was phenomenal in it. Shelly Duvall was phenomenal in it. Yeah, I I can't find one flaw in that movie. That's all that's again, almost as close to a perfect movie as you could think of. W what what? What what's your opinion jonathan: Alright, I mean James: on that? jonathan: I listen, I I love the shining. I love it. I'm a little surprised that you got a ha a horror in your top five. That's just me. James: Really? jonathan: I'm a little surprised at that. I'm a little I'm a little surprised. But then again, we we are big we we respect the the horror genre, so I don't hate it. It's a little high for my liking, but again, it's your it's your top five. I think It's a good pick. I'm not gonna shit on it. I'm not gonna, you know, tear you a new one or anything. That'll be def there's plenty of that for like other episodes and possibly later on in this episode. So I will let you have the moment and give you the shining in your top five. So Alright, I don't hate it. I'll give you. I'll give you respect. I respect. James: Listen, it's October. It's October by the time we're recording this episode. Every year. Every year. Every no. No. No. That's not why. But every year I jonathan: my god, you can't say stop, stop, stop. Don't give that don't give that as a reason why you put it in your top five right now. Okay. Alright. James: watch The Shining. That's just a tent testament to a horror movie that you could watch over and over and over and over. Not every horror movie you could do that. If you could put a horror movie on at least once a year and actually sit there and enjoy it, jonathan: C. James: that speaks volume. Alright, so rap wrap this pony show up. What's your what's your number five? jonathan: Alright. So now I'm gonna give I'm gonna give I'm I was thinking about this as we were discussing everything. I'm gonna give two honorable mentions really quick. I'm gonna have James: Ooh. All right. jonathan: Life is Beautiful and James: Wow. jonathan: and Silence of the Lambs. I'm gonna give his honorable mentions. James: You literally have a horror movie tickling the balls of your top five, but my shining was out of the fucking question. jonathan: It's not in my t it's not im it's not i it's not in the top five though. It's probably in like the top ten. I was gonna say glad I was gonna say glad James: It's a hundred percent six or seven. jonathan: I was gonna say gladiator, but I was like, I'm gonna James: Alright, gladiator could be up there. jonathan: You're gonna shit on it? I got the dark night. James: I'm a hundred percent gonna shit on it. That's not a good movie. jonathan: yeah, that's a you're you're a you're an ignorant fuck for saying that. James: I am not ignorant. Everybody loves that movie because of Heath Ledger's performance and he died afterwards. That is not a good movie. It's not. jonathan: No, it's not. It's not it's it's a great the flow of that movie, it's no go back and rewatch it. Educate yourself. James: I did. And I'm doing it while I got Heath Ledger behind you looking at me. The movie itself was slow, it was drawn out, but Heath Ledger jonathan: That James: carried that movie. The whole subplot jonathan: Keith Dodger. James: with Aaron Eckart as two face No it wasn't. It was so good that they jonathan: So good. So good. That you're James: burnt half his face for the last fifteen minutes of the movie and you never see him again. You never see him again. They'll bring him back at the next jonathan: That's the point. That's that's What are you talking about? The end of the movie! James: They don't bring back in the third mo Dumb. Horrible. Terrible. Terrible pick. It's a hundred percent a terrible pick. There's so many other Batman jonathan: It's not terrible. Not terrible at all. No, it's not. James: movies out there and that's the one you pick. jonathan: Yeah, 'cause that's the best Batman movie. Yes it is. Don't don't don't don't don't James: No it's not. No, it's not. Michael Michael Keaton, Batman One is the best Batman movie. jonathan: Okay. That's just a silly fucking statement again. James: It a hundred percent is not. Who's a better Batman? Michael King and a Christian Bale? jonathan: That's not the that's not the question. That's not the question. What it's you could say the better Batman, whatever. I'll talk You could you you could say he joke. James: Who's a better joker, Heath Ledger or Jack Nicholson? They're both of the same movie! jonathan: There it's a different t it's a different flow of the movie. Tim Burton was more cartoony. Tim Burton was dark, but it wasn't like he James: I wouldn't con I wouldn't consider the the Michael Keaton Batman one a cartoony movie. Two, absolutely, I'll agree with you on that. Not one. jonathan: I I nah I na I Dark Knight is it's separate from any other comic book movie I've ever sat through. James: Why, 'cause Christopher Nolan gizzed on it. I do respect I do respect jonathan: Christopher Nol right. Respect the man. Respect the fucking man. Okay? Respect respect Christopher Nolan's fucking work. And secondly, the flow of the movie, you could say it was slow and dragged out, but everything Gary Altman, Commissioner Gordon, it was great. The only thing that I will say that is not good with that movie was the replacement of for Katie Holmes for Maggie Gyllenhaal. James: Katie Holmes. Yes, Maggie Maggie Gyllenhall can't act. jonathan: That that to me that was I was watching that and I'm like this is not That that scene in the interrogation room with Bael and Ledger is at beautiful. It's beautiful. They're having the conversations about what he goes, You're garbage. Don't talk like one of them. You're not. They need you now. You're more like me. And throughout the movie, pay attention. They mirror each other on things that they do. You educate yourself. Go rewatch that movie. And pay attention to the s the subplots and the little hints and the little details that are put into that movie. It's a top five movie of all time. And it's to me the greatest comic book movie arguably of all time. James: Wow. Wow. jonathan: I know, I know, I know, I know. We have endgame and infinity war out. We can't we can't say that something's better than those. We can't. I know. I just did. James: game is literally the greatest comic book movie ever made. Hands down. Hands down. Hands down. jonathan: No, it's not even close. It's not even a top five comic book movie of all time. James: I'm g I'm gonna give you I'm gonna give you three movies that are better than Dark Knight and they're all comic book movies. Michael Keaton's Batman and Game Infinity War. I'll even put Civil War up there. jonathan: Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. That's just a silly silly statement again. James: That's just dumb. Well, you're gonna definitely think my number five is dumb. And I really don't care what your opinion is. What do you think it is? jonathan: I'm waiting for it. I'm waiting for it. I I'm not gonna say I'll tell I'll be brutally honest if I'm right. I have a movie in my head and James: You're not right. jonathan: I'm waiting Okay. What is it? James: Ready? The movie came out in nineteen sixty-eight. Yeah, I didn't I didn't think it jonathan: Nope, definitely wasn't what I was thinking. James: was. Stars Charlton Heston. Let's see if you can guess it. jonathan: What is it? are y don't you fucking dare tell me Planet of the Apes. You're a fucking clown. James: Planet of the Apes, the original. jonathan: You're a fucking clown. You're talking about the Joker and everything. You're a fucking clown in this. V Planet of the Apes is your top five of all t I would I if you would have given me Shinla's list, that's where I thought you were going, I would have been like, alright, I I get it. Planet of the fucking apes Pfft James: Yeah. jonathan: my just fucking cut your mic off already. My god. What the fuck d d Damn James: What's wrong with that movie? Tell me what's wrong with that movie. jonathan: you! Damn you all damn damn dirty apes! Shut up! James: You're literally you're literally quoting the last line jonathan: Shut. James: of the movie. Th there's a whole movie before that happens. jonathan: I know I I know there's a whole movie before it. I I under I get it. It's a it's a fucking planet full of apes. I got it the in the fucking title. The acting in it doesn't do anything for me. James: Sixties acting, what do you expect it to be? I didn't watch it jonathan: Okay, I James: for the acting, I watched it for the story, I watched it for the costume design, the production design. Literally Literally everything in the movie. okay. Okay, jonathan: Tell me. my my god stop, we stop it stop. James: you're literally saying that Heath Ledger is the greatest comic book character of all time. Of all time. The greatest comic book character of all time. jonathan: I I said I said that I said the movie's the greatest comic comic book movie in the top five of all time. James: It's not. It's a hundred percent not. Christian Bale is one of the worst Batmans out there. He's number three on my fucking Batman jonathan: Yeah, but here we James: list. And you're saying that's the greatest comic book movie of all fucking time. Robert Pattinson was a better Batman than Christian Bale was. Yes, he was, a hundred percent. Michael Keaton, Robert Pattinson, Christian Bale, Val Kil Val Kilmer, George jonathan: It is. Stop that. Don't no he wasn't. No he wasn't. No he wasn't. No he wasn't. Pattinson's four. Pattinson's four. Pattinson's four. James: Clooney. jonathan: RESPET BAN AFLIC! James: I forgot about him. Well no no no no no he was mmm I was gonna say he wasn't jonathan: Risk, don't you dare. James: in a Batman movie, he was in a Superman movie. jonathan: You give you give you give Affleck three. Affleck is three. James: Over Christian Bale? jonathan: Over Robert Pattinson. Let's fucking pump the brakes with Robert Pattinson. No. my god. Stop James: no no. Michael Michael Keaton, Robert Pattinson. I'll give you Ben Affleck, Christian Bale. jonathan: it. my god. Robert Pattinson. Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne was a fucking emo goth. Stop. Was terrible. The movie's good. I my god. James: Okay, I suppose this batman where you could hear a a word he broken said. jonathan: God, with the fucking voice. Are you gonna talk about the fucking voice? G this has nothing to do with your Planet of the Apes! You're not talking about Planet of the Apes! You had to deviate from Planet of the Apes, cause that movie is so fucking bad, it's in your top five! Are you fucking kidding me? This is our fucking James: He's your lead He's your lead character. Your sh your sh Bro, the vein the vein. jonathan: intro episode and you got my fucking blood boiling! I'm dripping sweat right now! my god, are you fucking kidding me? Planet of the Apes. You could've went anywhere. And you're gonna tell me you're gonna tell me James: Literally. jonathan: my opinion's wrong when you're fucking giving me Planet of the Fucking Apes. It's not even a James: It is wrong. jonathan: top 50, it's not even a top 50 movie of all time. James: Whoa. Pump the Bricks kid. Pump the jonathan: Yeah, I said it. G st you stop. James: Bricks kid. That movie's a national treasure. jonathan: Yeah. James: First off, I you you could take this jonathan: Okay, now you fucking quoted Tropic Thunder right there. Tropic Thunder is arguably almost it's it it's up there. That'll go. James: Greatest comedy of all time. It's up there. Okay. All right. Wow. Woo. Breathe. Breathe, my guy. Breathe, because I'm about to piss you off even jonathan: my god. Gotta have a simple w James: more. jonathan: How ca how? How are you gonna piss me off more? Top five movie of all time. Stop that. James: Damn. jonathan: That is crazy. That's fucking crazy. James: It is, it is, it is. And like I said, fucking Dark Knight sucks. Anyway. jonathan: Did but James: So Okay, jonathan: Gonna fucking break something. James: so this is gonna kinda pivot us to jonathan: I'll get sweating. James: the next section of this intro. Hot takes. jonathan: Excuse me. James: And don't don't rehash the whole fucking planet of the apes Batman thing. Hot takes jonathan: Okay. James: on movies. Like give me give me some of your hot takes that are either gonna shock our audience shock me or just like make me want to walk out the fucking room. I got I got one. jonathan: All right, go. James: Timothy Chalamane is overrated. jonathan: Timothy Chalamet, that is I'm trying to just picture him right now. There's there's a lot of Timothy actors that Are James: You picture Timothy, the kid the kid from Doom? jonathan: you frozen? James: No. Am I still here? Can you hear me? jonathan: yes. I'm I'm thinking of Timothy Oli Oliphant Oliphant, whatever. James: No, not Timothy Oliphant. The fucking Kid From Dune, Marty Supreme, he was in a whole bunch of other fucking stupid movies. I hate jonathan: I don't know why I had a I'd a pr I'm still I'm still recovering from fucking I'm still recovering from via fucking Planet of the Apes thing, so like I blew a gasket. James: I I think he's one of the most overrated actors and lately he's been nominated every year. jonathan: I James: And I don't get it. I don't get it. jonathan: I don't consider that a hot take 'cause I kind of agree with it. I I see where you're coming from with that. But again, it's this new James: Yeah, but people people love jonathan: wave of actors. We don't well we don't we don't ha there's no good I'm I'm sorry to say this There's not that many big new wave actors that are like blowing me away. Like I still have the the Mount Rushmores of actors. I don't think anyone's coming near the the the greats of all time anytime soon. I don't. James: No, I'll agree with you, but you know who you know who actually has been really stepping up in his acting? Jesse Plemens. Is that his name? Yeah. Jesse Plemens. Did I lose you? No, you're still there. Did you hear me? jonathan: Yeah, I'm here. Yeah, yeah, th it's fuzzy a lot of. James: I think Jesse I think Jesse Yeah, I think Jesse Plemens actually has stood up with his acting. That's the guy from You saw the Irishman? jonathan: Yes. James: That's Alpuccino's son. jonathan: Okay. I'm pulling his stuff. I'm looking him up right now. 'Cause Okay, yeah, kind kinds of kindness, love and de yeah. he was it yes, he's from Breaking Bad. Yes, yes, yes. James: Yeah. He Yes. He's a good actor. jonathan: All right. I I I I don't James: Everybody saying what's his name? Michael B. Jordan, you know, i Sitters was good. It wasn't great, it was good. Do you hear me? jonathan: Yeah, I agree with that because Sinners is to me That's not i again, not a James: It jonathan: revolutionary movie. James: it's not. It's not. It it it it was jonathan: It was enjoyable. James: It was the same hype around Black Panther. Listen, I get it. I get it. You know, it was important for their culture. It was important for, you know, to have some representation in that genre. Cool. Whatever, fine. I think Jordan Peel did a better representation with Get Out Us, Nope. but but jonathan: Get out of here with that Get out with that Get out of this fucking trash. James: Okay, fine. jonathan: Get Out is a fucking trash horror movie. James: Why do you say so? jonathan: It's not fucking scary. It's not fucking scary. It's a good again. Psychological, like, you know, twist on stuff. The the the fucking view of the movie the whole time. The the daughter brought the the boyfriend or whatever. It's fucking predictable the ending. That James: Well yeah. jonathan: she was in on it. Like it was cool. I get this James: There's there's a lot of reasons why that movie's predicting predictable ending. jonathan: I get it. I get it, I get it, I get it. It's overrated though. James: Yeah, no, I get it. I get it. But to g to kinda go back to what you were saying, yes, I do agree there's not a great wave of of actors out there now, who are blowing me away. I do I do agree with you on that. I would say that Jacob Lordi is sh surprising me with his skills. he's a good actor. but like There's there's even some names of people that are like, they're fantastic actors. I I just don't get. Margot Robbie's one of Why why is she still acting? jonathan: Yeah, she fell she fell off. She had she had James: Yeah, she sh jonathan: she had Wolf of Wall Street that and then a couple of things after that. I'm sorry, I I think Barbie is I think Barbie is James: She peaked in Suicide Squad. She peaked in jonathan: I think I I think Barbie is completely fucking overrated. James: Of course it is, it's trash. Margot Robbie peaked in Suicide Squad. That was it. After that, pfft downhill. jonathan: I don't think Bobby's a good movie. I think that James: This is annoying me now. Do you hear me? Pissing me off now. Cause it's saying reconnecting and my modem jonathan: What the James: is sitting right fucking here. jonathan: I don't know. You good now? You good. James: It's taking it's taking the steam out of the episode and it's pissing me off. Anyway, yeah, I I I agree with you. Barbie's trash and Margorabi just needs to stop acting. But on the flip side of that, Ryan Gosling needs an Oscar already. jonathan: I don't hate that take at all. I think he's giving us very good films. He's pumping stuff out. The one He's in space with the what is it? Save Me? Hail Project Hail Mary. Project Hail Mary. James: Pro Project Hail Mary. That was a great movie. jonathan: Great movie. It came out this pac is he getting nominated this year? I think. James: He is. He is. He won't win, but he's nominated. Come on, are you kidding me with this? jonathan: He is, he is, right? I don't think he's gonna win, but he's he's definitely deserves the nomination. James: No, he's not gonna win. John Malkovich is gonna win an Oscar this year just because of that weird movie he's in with jonathan: That always not. That was not. James: with who do you think's gonna win this year? It ain't Matt Damon. Robert jonathan: Pat Pattson. It's Robert Pattinson. James: Patton no, he won't win for Dateline. whatever it is, y nah, I don't think he's gonna win. jonathan: Prime time. Prime time yes yes he is. He's he they saying he's the favorite. James: I don't think he's gonna win for one reason because jonathan: I'll give I'll give I'll give Malkovich I'll give Malkovich the dark horse, it's not gonna go to gosling. That's my point. James: It's not gonna go to Goslin. I think I think your top actors this year are gonna be Matt Damon, Ryan Gosslin, John Malkovich, Robert Pattinson maybe, Timothy Chalamane for Doom Fucking Three. but jonathan: They're saying Tom Cruise and Digger. James: I heard that movie bombed. I heard that movie is rough. jonathan: But again but again you got you got these this new wave of fucking people that are like probably they probably can't fucking keep their attention span on the fucking film. James: You're right. You're right, right. jonathan: So that I mean the cr the reviews were great w before it was coming out. They were like the cast is gr pr amazing. T Tom Cruise is at the top of his game and people were probably like, I I I can't sit through this for fucking ten minutes without like you said earlier, so he might get fucking shafted because of fucking a box office bomb, meanwhile it's one one of his better movies. James: I think I think it's a jonathan: So gotta cool off after that. James: n yeah. I think it's another great year where I don't have to hear Meryl Streep's name ever jonathan: You good? James: being nominated again. Yeah, can you hear me? Yo, this fucking internet is pissing me off. I'm gonna have to edit the shit out of this. Can you hear me? jonathan: Yeah, 'cause you keep you keep freezing up. I can hear you, I can't see you at all James: Yeah, I don't know why my internet's jonathan: you're frozen. James: Am I still frozen? jonathan: No, you're moving a little bit, but there's like a delay, there's a glitch. James: Alright. Yeah, I I'm I'm gonna have to after this episode we're gonna I'm gonna have to reset and I'm gonna have to take this entire section out and reset it. But anyway, yeah, like I s like I was saying, another year where I don't have to hear Metal Street being nominated for anything is fucking gold to me. So yeah, I I don't care. Fuck Metal Street. Yeah, I said it. Now you can add another one. Fuck Metal Street and fuck Timothy Chalamagne. There we go. I said it. Alright, so Mount Rushmore, Mount Rushmore of Actors. I think we're gonna agree jonathan: By top. James: on a c I think we're gonna agree. jonathan: On a lot for the actors. James: On a lot? I think I think I have one dark horse on there and you're gonna be like, yeah, yeah, yeah. jonathan: Actresses, act actresses we're not gonna agree. James: No, a hundred percent. Mm maybe. I'm defin I definitely have one dark horse on my actor and you're gonna sit there and be like, that's it related because you have no class. But No you don't. You listen, you thought you knew where I was going with Shinla's list. jonathan: I fucking know where you're going and it's just pissing me off. Alright, alright, go go rattle rattle. Alright, so ratt rattle rattle an actor off that you have on your Mount Rushmore. James: Denzel Washington. jonathan: Yes, he is he should be on everyone's fucking Mount Rushmore. If I have to fucking James: That's right. jonathan: defend that pick, that's absurd. James: That's right. And number two, Tom Hanks. jonathan: That is no argument. Those are James: Okay. jonathan: arguably one A, one B. James: So my next two I really had to kinda fight to get on there. Because it was a toss up between a bunch of names. I'm gonna have to put Leo over Jack Nicholson for me. So jonathan: Yes, that is that is a three for me as well. I don't listen, I I I respect the the nod to Nicholson. I I do. He had a lot of hits early in the seventies and eighties. Then after that I'm not saying he fell off completely, but like he wasn't pumping the hits out the way he was. So I Nicholson can be in the top, but he's not on the rushmore for me. James: No, I agree with you. And that's kinda where I met my criteria where it was their whole body, not just like where there were a time period where they were good. It's their entire body of work has to be solid. So I think Tom Hanks, Denzel and Leo kinda fit that. You know, Leo had a couple of weird ones in the early two thousands, but even if you go back and watch those movies like The Beach and Blood Diamond and you know, they're not great movie Yeah, they're not great movies, but jonathan: Blood Diamond's good. Don't don't shit on Blood Diamond. James: They're worth watching. And my number four has to be jonathan: Blood Diamond's good. James: my number four has to be George C. Scott. Who? Yeah, see? See? Classless. This guy's classless. The guy played patent. He's in fucking Doctor Strange Love. He's in Changeling. Come on. jonathan: my god, my god, my god. James: He's a fantastic actor. Phenomenal actor. jonathan: Do you do you do you do you work for like AFI's list? Are you on there? Like are you trying are you James: AFI can't afford me, my guy. jonathan: try are you trying to like get there? Because like dude these classical pieces alright, I I get it. Okay. whatever. James: So basically if somebody hasn't made a fucking movie in the last thirty years, you don't care about You closed minded fuck. You farm You fucking farm animal. You just sit jonathan: I I I do care about it, but like I I would put I would I would put I would put I would put Gregory I would I would put Gregory Peck over him. James: You pull on your fucking Gregory Peck. Gregory Peck can't hold fucking George She's got shoes. Get the fuck out here, Gregory Peck. jonathan: Okay. I put Humphrey Bogart over him. James: Who's god, I can't wait to hear I can't I can't wait to hear your number four. Here we go. Sebastian Stallone? jonathan: Okay, so so my my honorable my fuck off. my honorable mention I have De Niro and Pacino as Albert honorable mentions to me. James: How would you put Pacino on that fucking list? The guy's good in two movies. Two movies. What are you gonna put home alone in there? jonathan: I I Stop stop stop. He's not good he's not he's not he's not good Home alone, what are you talk Al Pacino? James: You said Pesci. jonathan: No, I said De Niro and Pacino are honorable mentions for me. James: I thought yo, I thought you said pesci. I was about to flip this fucking table over. my god. Whew. jonathan: Okay, my my last pick my last pick, I gotta put Daniel Day Lewis up there. He may not have been he he may not James: Now who's suckin' the fucking Oscar's dick? GET OUTA HERE! jonathan: he may not have been in as many movies as everybody else, but when he goes into a role, it's almost an instant nomination every year. So I facted that. James: Yeah. My left foot, that's a good movie. jonathan: Alright, I James: That's a movie. Last of the Mohicans, that's a good one? jonathan: That's yes. That's a good that stop. Don't fucking tell me that it's not a good movie. There will be blood, gangs in New York. There James: Okay. That's a good movie. Mm-hmm. jonathan: will be blood is a fucking great movie. That James: There will be blood, gangs in New York, what else? jonathan: Do have to go through his whole fucking filmography for you? James: Lincoln. Was it good in Lincoln? jonathan: Yeah, as much as I YES, you sucked him off in Lincoln! Lincoln Sleek is like one of the best movies ever made, Yeah, Daniel Day Lewis carried the fucking movie! James: I don't like Lincoln. I th I thought Tommy Lee Jones was better on Lincoln than jonathan: my god, what is going on? Where the fuck am I? I'm twitching. James: This guy's twitching. This guy's tweakin right now. jonathan: Yo, I alright, so we got three out of the four on our Mount Rushmore. The other spot is up for debate, so whatever. Three out of the four. The three out of the four should o in for everyone watching and listening should be in your fucking Mount Rushmore is DiCaprio, Denzel, Hanks. There's no fucking debate here with those. James: No, I agree with you on that. There there is no debate. now we're gonna debate. jonathan: And if someone says like someone says someone says like Tom Hanks is overrated or something, then you're just you just don't know movies then. That's all it is. I d I'm just I'm just there are fucking people out there. James: Who? Who says that? Who says Tom Ranks is overrated? That's the dumbest thing I ever heard. jonathan: Alright, whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Okay. So now I wanna hear your actresses. James: Anyway. You you no, you can start this one. I know who's not on mine. jonathan: My queen. She's on mine and she should be on everybody's Meryl Streep is the GOAT of female actresses. James: god. Why don't you just fucking eat a box out? Get the fuck outta here. Yeah. The fe the queen of female actresses. Let me ask you a question. If jonathan: my my god. my god. Yes. James: you had if you had a sports team, right? Right? No no no. You have jonathan: And to put the goat on it? Yeah, I I put she's she's the James: a sports team and you get to the championship game twenty one times and you win it once. Are you a good person? Are you a good player? You a good team? jonathan: If you carry the fucking y if you're carrying the fucking the the franchises there by yourself, yeah. Yeah you are. Yeah you are She got she James: No, no, no. Garbage. Garbage pick. jonathan: what she won what three? She's got three Oscars? Yeah, she's she's on my James: I I I I don't fucking know. jonathan: li Okay. Alright, so who's won on yours? Like who's on your mount Rushmore? I wanna hear this nonsense you're about to tell me. James: No, I wanna I wanna hear I wanna hear a little more about why you love Metal Street so much. Go ahead. Name three. Name three. Sophie's choice. jonathan: All the films she does. The film she does. So what? Kramer vs Kramer. Kramer vs. Kramer. Sophie's choice. Bridges James: Yeah. Yeah. jonathan: Bridges of Madison County. You you're really gonna make me pull up her fucking filmography. That's Educate yourself, bro. Educate yourself, my brother. Dev Devil wears Prada. Devil wears Prada. James: Bridges Bridges of Madison County. Ooh Ooh Yeah, that's that that's a that's a rock star choice. yeah, now now you're gonna now you're going into really good movies. Okay, I'm done with you. Mamma mia. Get out of here. Anyway, jonathan: Mamma Mia What bro That's a good movie James: my my number one pick probably has to be Julie Roberts. jonathan: Who wa doubt the That's another one. What else? What else am I missing? The Iron Lady, thank you. James: Spotlight. Yeah, I I know her filmography. I'm waiting for a good movie. jonathan: I just gave you fucking ten, so the Manchurian candidate. The hours James: My number w suck my dick suck my dick. The Manchurian candidate she was terrible in. jonathan: Marvin's room Bro God James: Terrible. Awful. jonathan: yourself, you swine. James: Anyway, Julie Roberts is my number one pick. jonathan: jeez. Julia Roberts is on mine as well. So I don't James: Okay, all right. Calm down now. jonathan: she's I there's listen, Julia Roberts James: She deserves to be up there. jonathan: Julia Roberts from the eighties through the early two thousand the late eighties through the early two thousands. She was she was it. James: Mm-hmm. jonathan: Every every woman wanted to be her. Every guy that was the woman you wanted to get with. Well be real with that. And she can carry a movie. She has a charm about her. Her acting, you know, in the roles that she plays, she she goes into the role, she goes into the character, and you know, I don't hate the the Julia Roberts pick, so she's she's second on mine. So that's my second. Give me your second now. James: I'll go with an obvious one for me, Nicole Kitman. jonathan: She was an honorable mention for me. She's not in my mountain rushmore. James: Kimmen deserves to be up there. Days of Thunder, she was fantastic in Eyes Wide Shut, she was phenomenal in. F she she was phenomenal in Eyes Wide Shut. I think she was great jonathan: Okay. James: in in little little bit movie. She was great in practical magic, even though she was a little quirky in it. She was fantastic in the others. jonathan: Yeah, that's okay, I'll give James: What jonathan: you that. James: I thought I thought you were rolling your eyes at the others. I was about to say my guy. jonathan: No, I'm rolling my eyes that you that you brought up you break my chops about what I mentioned from Meryl Streep and you bring up practical magic? My man, my man, my man. James: You said Marvin's room. You said Marvin's room and you mentioned the guy that made my left foot as a fucking top actor. Suck my left foot. jonathan: My man. James: Anyway, alright, so what's jonathan: w you sho she was good at Batman Forever? she was good at Batman Forever? Yeah. James: No. I did I mention Batman Forever? jonathan: No, you shouldn't. James: I thought she was a good Batman Forever. jonathan: Another one on my Mount Rushmore. I have Viola Davis. James: So do I? Hundred percent. And so do I. jonathan: I don't think there's any explanation needed for this pick. James: Nope. jonathan: She James: She belongs there. jonathan: any character she she she puts in that she gets into character for, I feel heartbreak. I feel her pain when she's upset. I feel triumph for her. She's hands down, she could be number she could be number one in my eyes as well. She's she's James: I agree. jonathan: done great things. So I I James: I agree. jonathan: definitely take that. so we have the we both have three now, right? Alright, so James: Th no argument on my on my part for that one. Yes. jonathan: I had two honorable I have two honorable mentions. I have Shirley McLean and Sally Field as honorable mentions. James: Alright, I see Sally Field. Shirley McLean's a pull. But all right. But alright. jonathan: Shirley McLean is a pole. And my last pick for the I gotta narrow it down to one. I can't it there's only four. this is so tough. This is so tough. I g I I gotta pay homage to an OG. James: I know. I know. I have a toss up between two. jonathan: I'm knocking Kathy Bates off and I'm putting Katherine Hepburn in. I gotta go Katherine Hepburn. James: I say George C. Scott and you give me shit and you throw a Catherine Hepburn? jonathan: I'm gonna throw Catherine Hepburn. I'm gonna pay homage to James: Alright. I'm not gonna shit on Catherine Hepburn because she is prob no, she is the jonathan: One of the I'm gonna pay I'll pay homage. James: greatest female actress of all time. jonathan: So I will d exactly. So like there the films I've seen her in okay, James: But I'm an educated man. I get that. jonathan: I I I get it. Congrats that you know something. James: Cunt. jonathan: That's unnecessary. No, you gotta pay homage to you know, she paved the way for even Merrill Streep and everyone after her. I believe if I'm not mistaken, I could be wrong. I think she's got four Academy Award wins. So, you know, she's she's gotta be up there. If not on the Mount Rushmore, she's gotta be scratching the surface at least. So I'll pay homage to an original James: No. She she's gotta be she has to be on there. I agree with you on that. so what do I got? One more? jonathan: You got one spot left. James: So it was a toss up between Emily Blunt and Helen Mirren. And I think I'm gonna I'm think I'm gonna go more towards Helen Mirren. Honestly jonathan: Emily Emily Blunt James: Yeah. jonathan: Helen Helen Mirum Helen Mirum James: So i it was actually a th it was actually a three way tie between Hellamiram, Judy Dench, and Emily Blunt. And here's my reasons. jonathan: Ju I was I that's who I thought you were gonna put on there. James: I love Judy Dench. I think she she's a national treasure that should be protected at all costs. But Emily Blunt has you know what role really surprised me with her? Her role in Oppenheimer. Really made me go, holy shit, she can act. You know who's also a good actress? Florence Pugh. She can act. jonathan: All right. James: But yeah, so that's our actresses. Is this stretch? jonathan: Think I think Emily Blunt is a I think Emily Blunt was a little bit of a stretch, but but I I see I I I I'm look I see the filmography. She's in a lot. She really is. And she hasn't she hasn't been bad in a lot, so I don't I don't hate it. I understand why she's up there, so I respect it. I just think it's a I don't think she's had the accolades and the type of films that the others have had, but I don't I I'm not gonna shit on it. I won't shit on it. James: All right. No, that's fine. That's fine. damn. That was rough for the first episode, my friend. Gotcha blood boiling a little there. jonathan: you're cutting it? I I was I was I was gonna go overrated underrated. I thought we were gonna do a nice little overrated underrated second. Yeah, do an o yeah, cause James: we we can do that. Let's let's do it. Are we doing movies, actors, what? jonathan: nah we'll do we'll do I'm gonna spit out a couple of things for overrated and underrated, just actors and actresses. We had like the Mount Rushmores, so like those are the pinnacles. I'm gonna give you an overrated group of actors. James: So you're gonna say the actor and whether I think it's overrated or underrated? jonathan: No, I'm just gonna I'm just I'm just gonna say I'm just gonna say this a overrated seg overrated right now. And you can either agree or disagree with me, and we just take it from there. And if you got something to throw in, you throw it in. If you agree with me, agree. If you disagree, disagree. So I'm going over James: How about this? How about you say th how about you say the name? I'll tell you whether I think it's overrated or underrated and see if I agree with you. jonathan: I'm gonna give you a toss up right now. I'm gonna give you a softball right here. James: Go ahead. Go ahead. jonathan: you should hit it out of the park. Vin Diesel. James: Overrated. Next. jonathan: There you go. Yeah, you should. John Wayne. James: Overrated. jonathan: Wow, you got that right. Mark Hamill. James: I think Mark Hamill is appropriately rated. He caters to his fan base, which is like the weird nerdy guys. He doesn't step out of that circle. It's not like he's trying to be the next great actor. He knows what his role is. I jonathan: Think he's think he's so fucking overrated. James: I I think he's appropriately rated. He's not trying to be something he's not. He knows what he is. jonathan: Gwynneth Paltro. James: Overrated fuck her and her soap. jonathan: Amy Adams. James: I would say overrated now because she likes to do a lot of these weird indie films and she thinks she's like this young new actress that can do them but you not. I could but she was fantastic at things like Arrival and American Hustle. But like Yeah. Yeah, jonathan: Think she's I think she's so fucking overrated, bro. James: she's no, she was good back then. Nowadays I would say she's overrated. Alright. jonathan: Jake Gillen Hall. James: Underrated. Give the guy more acting roles. jonathan: So the the the guy should be fucking have got nominations at the wazoo. Cameron Cameron James: I agree. I hear I hear that he's like I was gonna say, I hear that he's like hard to work with, but you get what you pay for. G give the guy more rolls. jonathan: Yeah, 'cause he probably expects like, yeah. Cameron Diaz. James: I'm gonna say appropriately rated. Again, she's not trying to go out the bubble that she knows she belongs in. she was in that bad teacher film a little while ago and she she was jonathan: Stop shot. James: she was fine there. jonathan: Stop, she's overrated. Knock it off. Paul Dano. James: Quentin Tarantino doesn't like Pauldano. I'm gonna say Pauldano's underrated. jonathan: Very underrated. I agree with that. Tom Cruise. James: Yeah, I I think I think he can Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise. You can't you can't say he's overrated, underrated. I think I think Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise. I think Tom Cruise goes beyond that kind of rating. jonathan: Think he's I think for I think for whole his whole filmography for his whole filmography would you say he's overrated or underrated? James: I think he's appropriately rated because like again, in the late jonathan: Take it. James: the late the late eighties, early nineties, Tom Cruise was the king of the fucking universe. Then his social life got weird. jonathan: I I think James: He joined the Church of Scientology, he got he became a fucking weirdo. Then he left the spotlight for a little bit. He started making these little weird movies. Then all of a sudden he started making good movies. The re the new Mission Impossible, the new Top Gun Digger that's coming out. No, I think he's appropriately rated. If you say he's overrated jonathan: He's he's he's so underrated. He's yeah, bro, James: okay. No. I think he's appropriately rated. Bro, he ri jonathan: he's he's his early his early work no one no one remembers like be like everyone knows him for like Mission Impossible now, like the later movies and stuff. Bro, his early James: No, this generation remember him from that. jonathan: his his early day of acting, he was pumping out James: yeah. jonathan: like Like that's that's my point. That to me is why he's underrated. He should he should get more credit than what he's been given to me. James: Yeah, I think in the eyes of the nowaday critic they only see Tom Cruise as the the weirdo Scientologist guy, but like born on the fourth of July, few yeah, jonathan: my god. James: few good men, Rain Man, Jerry Maguire, what the hell else was he in inter yeah. jonathan: That was my card, right? That was my card. You weren't supposed to hit. James: Interview with a vampire, like like gold. Yeah. No, he's he's jonathan: banger after banger so James: Tom Cruise is the epitome of the movie star. When you think of a movie star, it's fucking Tom Cruise. That's that's it. Whether you like the guy or not, you can't jonathan: All right. Seth Rogan. James: overrated, shut the fuck up. If I never hear that laugh again, I'll be happy. jonathan: Annette Benning. James: And while you're a and while you're at it, throw fucking Jonah Hill in that pile too. Annette jonathan: All right. James: Benning? Ugh I don't think I care enough about Enf Benning to find out whether she's overrated or underrated enough. jonathan: Well. Alright, fair enough. I'm gonna say she's underrated, but that's just me. I think she doesn't James: Okay, okay. jonathan: get the Penelope Cruz. James: Underrated. Girl can act. Sh She can act. jonathan: Ma man, my man, my man. James: She can act. She just needs better roles. jonathan: Kerry Washington James: Underrated. jonathan: Overrated. James: No, I don't think so. All right. D agree to disagree on that one. jonathan: I d I think I think you all give me the I think you'll agree with this. Kirsten Dunst. James: I would say she was overrated in the early two thousands. Nowadays she can actually put out a decent film. She was a bitch in hidden figures. And I was like, damn. And then I realized and remembered she can actually act. So I'm jonathan: Yeah. James: I'm I'm gonna say I'm gonna say she's still a little overrated. jonathan: Alright, good. You got on the same page. Stay on that fucking page, alright? Let's let's pump the brakes here that she's stop James: Stop deviating from that shit. jonathan: deviating that she's she can act. She can she? James: Can act. Yeah, she can act. H her and Marie Antoinette she was fantastic in. jonathan: my god it Julianne Moore James: I hope I never see her on a movie screen ever again and she's going to win an Oscar this year and that's gonna piss me off. jonathan: All right. I agree. I think she's very overrated. James: She kill she killed one of the greatest movie characters of all time. Clarice Starley. jonathan: Very fair point, very fair point. James: Yep. Yeah. Yeah. jonathan: That movie that movie could have been so good. James: It would have been epic if Jodie Foster came back. jonathan: That's the thing. Her the presence is just not there in that film. S James: No, she's terrible in it. jonathan: Anthony Hopkins did his thing. Even Ray Leoda. James: Like he's a professional. Yeah, well yeah. I mean, again, Anthony Hopkins is a professional. Julianne Moore is a psychopath. jonathan: Alice and Janny. James: Allison Jenny. Again, I don't think I I think about her enough to consider her overrated or underrated. I would say she's a little she's a little overrated. jonathan: Alright, fair enough. I think she's underrated, but alright. I I mean if you don't you don't really care about her enough, I mean then okay. Diane Lane James: Alright. I don't. No offense. Why am I blinking on that one? I had Diane Keaton in my head for some reason. jonathan: Come on. Diane Lane, unfaithful she was it James: yeah, she's underrated. She could do she could do more. I'd like to see it more. jonathan: I think I I don't think s that's the thing. I I think they don't give her enough. Like I don't understand why she's not in James: Should jonathan: I know she's older now, but like she didn't she for the mid two thousand she was doing good and then they just she was just stopped. Like she just got I don't know, did she do something that we don't know about? I think she's underrated. I think she could have been in a lot more and won more awards. James: No, I agree. I think she's typecasted. jonathan: Charlie Hunham. James: Charlie Hunnam. the guy from Sons of Anarchy and The monster, a gain. jonathan: Yeah, so I mean Charlie Hunt like you said, Edgeen and Sons of Anarchy, I think he's I think he's I think he's under. You're going overrated now. Alright. I th I James: Charlie Huntum, I think he's a little overrated. I think he's a little overrated. Yeah, I think he's a little overrated. I think I think he was good in that gene. it was a departure from his typical bad boy, badass character like Sons of Anarchy or the gentleman. I would like to see him in other roles though. I Jerry's out. I'll put jury's out on him. jonathan: Hugh Jackman. James: Overrated. Get out off my screen. Get out. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. jonathan: GET THE FUCK OUT HERE! James: I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I love Hugh Jackman. No, Hugh Jack jonathan: my god, I was gonna flip this fucking table, bro. James: No, Hugh Jackman is probably going gonna go down in history as one of one of jonathan: my god, bro. Give me more give me more prisoner type roles of him. James: yeah. yeah. I watched that new movie he was in, Death of Robin Hood. Wasn't great. It was a very slow paced movie, but again, he's phenomenal in it, 'cause he can act. nah. He he's underrated. Underrated. jonathan: Yes. He needs he needs more range of roles and he's all right. That was that was my overrated, underrated list I had. So that was pretty much it. I figured we do James: Solid list. No, I like it. Solid list. jonathan: we do a coup I figured I figured listen, this is what you're gonna get on this this podcast. You're gonna get different segments every episode, overrated and underrated, aggr agree disagree, tournaments, tier lists, all different types of stuff. So I'll just figure I'd throw a little curveball at you after the Mount Rushmores. You know, we gotta we pay homage to the top The top of the top, we gotta go with the bottom of the bottom as well. James: I agree. Alright, I'm gonna throw a couple of names at you now that you you did this, so let's see where you land on it. Ready? jonathan: Okay. James: The rock. jonathan: Get the fuck out of here that you fucking even wasted a fucking breath on this guy. James: You said Vin Diesel, my guy. You said Vin Diesel Alright. jonathan: Yeah, well. the rock's way overrated. James: Ryan Reynolds. jonathan: Way overrated. This is tough. I'm gonna say, you know how you give appropriately rated for some of them? James: Mm-hmm. jonathan: He's he's right in that realm because he sticks with I'm this type of character, I'm the same type almost every role, I'm the goofy, witty. The stuff he tried to do like every once in a while that I would say a little overrated. If anything. Deadpool he's Deadpool. James: I agree. I agree. He jonathan: Like he is he's Deadpool. Perfect cast. But other than that, James: Yeah, but that's his k that's his character, right. jonathan: that's that's his that's his gimmick. So if he tries to step outside of that, it's never gonna work. So I'll go a little overrated. I'll I'll go that way. James: Kevin Costner. jonathan: Underrated. James: Wow. I think he's appropriately rated. I think he's at the age where he could pick his roles. jonathan: I would say I would say I would say I would say appropriately rated, but if I ha I wouldn't I wouldn't go as far as overrated. I think he's steady. Like he is a steady constant in what he does. James: Yeah, no, I agree. And again, I think he's at the role where he's at the age where he could pick his roles and he's picking them correctly. So good for him. jonathan: Alright. James: Samuel L. Jackson. jonathan: Overrated. So fucking overrated. James: Really? jonathan: Motherfucker, motherfucker, motherfucker, motherfucker, motherfucker. I could be Sam James: he doesn't say it in every movie. It doesn't. jonathan: Are we real? Can we can we fucking check if there's a movie that he doesn't say motherfucker or fuck? James: Star Wars. Star Wars. jonathan: I I don't think he was alive. Yeah, alright, you got one. Congrats. He was probably Yeah, he was probably like he James: Incredibles. jonathan: was probably on the set. They're like, Sam Jack, your line is this. Stop saying motherfucker. Stop saying Yoda, motherfucker. James: Ain't no way I'ma do it, motherfucker Okay. jonathan: I think he's so overrated, bro. He's in everything too. James: All right. jonathan: He's like hemorrhoids, he just keeps popping up. James: Zendayah. jonathan: Underrated. James: Okay. jonathan: I think she has the potential to become a great actress. She's in listen, she's in the Spider Man movies. She plays Mary Jane. The tennis movie she did, she was James: Challengers. jonathan: fucking crazy. Challenges, she was fucking crazy in that. the TV James: Mm-hmm. jonathan: show Euphoria, she she was great in that. Dune, she's James: She was jonathan: very solid. So I'm gonna say underrated and I wanna see where the next phase of her career goes. James: I agree with that. Sydney Sweeney. jonathan: I don't think she's been given enough yet. She's taken a lot of backlash for stuff that she does. Like and I I don't James: She's got a bad publicist, that's her problem. jonathan: Yeah, but i so if she wants to do that, like why why does she get hate on it? James: Because society sucks. Let's be real. jonathan: I I I know. So I haven't really seen her in that much yet to really give a c fair thing. I I mean euphoria she was in, she was also in what was James: She was in once upon a time in Hollywood, but it was a bit part. jonathan: Yeah, so I I the jury's still out. I g I I need more. I don't James: Okay. jonathan: feel the I don't feel the sample's enough yet that I could give appropriate James: And Hathaway. jonathan: kinda wanna lean a little towards the overrated. James: My man. I agree. jonathan: She's starting she's starting to lose the edge she had. She was she James: Yeah. jonathan: was at the top for a bit. I feel that she's fallen off a bit, so I'm gonna go more towards the overrated and I hope she gets me back to the spot where I'm like, that's that's one of the great actresses that could go to the next level. So for right now she's a little overrated James: Agree with you. jonathan: though. James: I would agree with you. I was actually gonna think about putting her on the Mount Rushmore. and then I really looked at her body of work and this last one that she did, End of Oak Street, was a god awful movie and she was terrible in it. so that that definitely knocked her down a few points. Alright. Cool. jonathan: Yeah. James: Sounds good, my brother. Alright, that's a wrap on episode jonathan: I'm right. I think I think that is a great James: one. jonathan: Alright guys, thank you so much for joining us. We appreciate it. So this is John from the Popcorn Power Podcast, with always James, and see you next time everybody. James: Peace.
