jonathan: Grab your popcorn and turn up the volume, everybody. It's time to talk movies. This is the Popcorn Power Podcast. My name is John, and with me as always is my partner in crime, James. James: What's poppin' everyone? What is going on, my friend? jonathan: Fun, fun episode today. We are gonna dive into another segment of horror, but a little spin on it, ladies and gentlemen. The most iconic horror movie characters. James: That's right. So last episode we talked a little bit about the greatest franchises out there. We talked a little bit about what we loved about them. Now we're gonna deep dive into the people and the characters that made those franchises what they are. So how we're gonna do today's episode is we're gonna do a draft style. So it's gonna be John jonathan: yeah. James: picking his team, me picking my team. We're just gonna go back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. But we gotta explain why these characters are so iconic. And jonathan: Why? James: when I talked about When we're talking about iconic characters, we're not just talking about the Oogie Boogie Man. We're not talking about the villains. We're talking about characters. We're drafting everybody. So in the interest of fairness and because this was your brain child, I will give you first pick and I already know who you're going with. jonathan: Baby. So, like James said before we do this, it's gonna be a very special episode. We're gonna be drafting our horror movie icons. The premise of this is going to be not just like he said villains, but the impact that maybe a character had on the franchise, the longevity, maybe, the survivorability. and just see where it goes, see where we take this. My main one question before we start, how many roster spots do you want for your team? James: So if we're gonna do a full team, let's let's think about this. If we're gonna draft a full squad, I'm gonna say in the spirit of Halloween, not to be like a specific sport, let's do thirteen each. jonathan: I like that answer. Because I was right. I wrote down fifteen, but now that you said the Halloween spirit, I like that a lot. So we'll do 13 each. Now this is gonna be fun because there are some characters that are bigger than villains. James: I agree. jonathan: That so we're gonna see where this takes us. But you let me pick kick it off. I'm gonna go with the Biggest horror movie icon villain that I could think of. It's Michael Myers. I'm gonna take him with my first pick. And I don't really think there's much of a defense here for this pick. That I have to defend it. the longevity, the franchise has spanned for over forty years. He is the boogeyman. His body count is sky high. Everybody knows who Michael Myers is. You know James: Mm-hmm. jonathan: that Halloween, the movie franchise, when Halloween comes around every year, you watch Halloween for Michael Myers and the ultimate slasher film, Halloween. And to me, this is a no-brainer of the arguably biggest horror movie villain of all time. So I'll take Michael Myers comfortably with my number one pick. James: I am not mad at that pick and kind of in the same vein. Let's just get through the top ones first. I'm going Jason Voorhees. Number two. Friday the thirteenth. Let it slip. Friday the thirteenth. jonathan: Motherfucker. I thought he would slip. Son of I don't know, I thought you were gonna go. James: you know, iconic look, iconic character. Doesn't say a word. much much in the much much like the soul brother of Michael Myers. just a little more big. Like jacked. yeah, I'm I'm I'm okay with that being my first pick. jonathan: Yeah, and again, t test of time, like again, f over forty years the franchise has been running, so I love the pick for ya. my next pick, I'm gonna go with another horror movie villain. going over forty years almost now. A little bit more possibly. I'm going with Freddie Krueger. you know, give me the one two punch of Freddie and Michael Myers here. Nightmare on Elm Street. Changed the game a little bit, right after Halloween came out. And you you were afraid to go to sleep. People are still watching this movie. You're afraid to go to sleep because of one man, Freddy Krueger. Robert England, you he's he's Freddie Krueger. He is that's his character that he's been in other movies, horror films, other stuff. You know Robert England is Freddie Krueger. And the impact that he has had outside of you know, f films and everything as Freddie Krueger, like merchandise, all different things. So you gotta give props where they're due to the three th the three first picks are the three biggest villains in horror movie history, possibly. So James: I agree. I agree. And to kind of piggyback off that, you're picking iconic for like their impact on the movie culture and just culture in general. If we're gonna talk about horror icons, let's talk about the only one that's received any kind of accolade in the sense of awards, and I'm going Hannibal Lecter. jonathan: Wow. James: Hannibal Lecter is my jonathan: Okay. James: second pick. again, iconic, huge impact on his film franchise. Anthony Hopkins played an absolutely unbelievable role in Sons of Lambs, Red Dragon, Hannibal, just an iconic character with quotable lines, an iconic mask. You know, he doesn't really wear it that much, but you know what the mask is from, considering you've only seen yeah jonathan: You fair point. Very fair point. James: You've only seen the mask maybe total ten minutes in all three movies. but yeah, he's definitely my number two pick. jonathan: Okay, I don't hate it, and you know, it's a great pick. That's you know, best actor for a horror film. You never I don't think you'll ever see that again. So on that note, I am gonna go to a different realm. I'm gonna go into the monster realm. I'm gonna take Frankenstein, my Frankenstein's monster. James: Rankens sign. jonathan: I'm gonna take Frankenstein the monster. Not Dr. Frankenstein. I'm gonna take the monster. James: Yeah. jonathan: He's listen, I know in the previous episode we kept the monsters out of the franchise rankings because j listen, there's there's Frankenstein, there's Frankenstein's monster, there's the bride of Frankenstein, there's Drake, all these different things. Frankenstein is the monster is known. Like that that scene when James: The one that started it all. jonathan: that scene when he screams he's alive, he's alive, and he sits up. A random James: Friend? jonathan: assort of body parts put together and this creature now is walking amongst us that's iconic. And the scene and just the scene alone with that little girl. James: yeah, where he throws her in the river. I like that we're only talking jonathan: Bro. James: about the original movie though. because I jonathan: Yes. James: think that's where he was the most iconic. Boris Karloff played him. He that's that's Frankenstein to me. jonathan: Yes. The Boris the Boris the Boris call off Frankenstein's monster. I and I know everyone says like Dr. Frank Frankenstein, you s you think of Frankenstein, you think of the monster. So let's James: No. Yeah, exactly. same vein, since you wanna go old school, I'm gonna have to jump in front of you and pick Dracula. You know, Dracula be Yeah. jonathan: I I don't hate that at all. We w it was it was one or the other, so James: Dracula being the first universal monster played by Bell of Si. he Bell Lagosi played Dracula for years, pretty much until he died. so that jonathan: Yeah. James: is that character. And Dracula is such an iconic character. Vamp he is the Lord of the Vampires. He is the one that started it all, so can't can't fault for picking that for my third pick. jonathan: So on the next pick here, I am gonna dive into one of your franchises that you love the I'm gonna take Ghost Face. James: Solid. Solid. jonathan: Scream reinvigorated the Slasher franchise in the nineties, and Ghostface became known. It was anybody could be Ghostface. You didn't know who was gonna be the killer in the Scream franchises. You had the boyfriends, you had the mother, you had the brother. It was all these things. And now Ghostface is thirty something years later still. talked about. Still okay, Ghostface it's Scream, but it's not just Scream, it's it's Ghostface is coming. It's it is it is a character that has become almost bigger than the franchise, I feel. James: So I will throw you a curveball on this one. You say ghost jonathan: Okay. James: face is a character. Ghostface isn't the character, it's the person under the cloak. So out of all the ghost faces, who would you draft? jonathan: Dude, I'm out. I'm taking go I'm talking about ghost face. James: it's a it's easy. But it's easy. It's Stu and Billy. If you had yeah, if you if you had to pick a ghost face jonathan: Alright, Stewin Billy. So if you so if you so if you if you're saying if I had to narrow it down to James: Yeah. jonathan: a ghost face. Alright, so I yes, I would take the original OG ghost face. James: Like there's only one person under the Michael Myers mask. There's only one person under the Jason mask. Ghostface was a c a g amalgamation of people. But yeah, it would have to be Stu and Billy. They are the worst of the worst. They were legitimate jonathan: That but Yeah. Yes. James: psychos. jonathan: Okay. I gotcha. James: Alright, so you went Ghostface. I think I'm gonna twist this on you a little bit, and I'm gonna go with one of your favorite horror film franchises, the Chainsaw Wheeling Leatherface. mainly because though the move though he was not the main antagonist in his own film franchise, he's the one that stood out the most. The whole family is the antagonist of the Texas Chainsaw. jonathan: Yes. James: franchise but leatherface is the face of the franchise. jonathan: Literally. James: yeah. Big, bad, kinda st jonathan: Monster. James: kinda stupid monster. yeah, no, Leatherface for me, number four. jonathan: I am then gonna go with I'm gonna throw a curveball here, I think. I'm gonna take Norman Bates. James: That's not a bad one. That's not a bad one. He was he he was going to be my top four, but you're you're picking some heavy hitters with Ghostface, so you know in Bates, okay. jonathan: I think I think Norman Bates, Psycho franchise being revealed as the killer in that film was a genuine shock to a lot of horror fans. it has some of the most iconic scenes in the horror movie history with the shower scene, let alone James: Reveal. jonathan: the reveal. The stabbing down the the stairs the way it was James: Let's do the case. jonathan: shot and you know he's you you know Norman Bates. You're like who Norman Bates? the the guy who dressed up as his mother in the psycho franchise and killed people. James: Mm-hmm. jonathan: So he's he's definitely up there for a top five pick for me. I take him. James: Okay. So that was your top five? All right. jonathan: That's five right now. I'm at five. James: I'm gonna go I'm gonna go with Pennywise. I'm gonna pick Pennywise as is gonna round my jonathan: Don't hate it 'cause I was I was thinking James: top five. So Pennywise, iconic look, iconic face, two iconic actors playing the same role, Tim Curry and jonathan: So sh s so good. James: Bill SkarsgÄrd. I'm gonna cause I w pause. I wouldn't call Bill Skarsgard an iconic actor. Relax. but he he played the role very well. the movies are okay. But he his that character is such a great horror movie character. It plays on your your primal fear of clowns and the unknown and he kinda pulls in your own fears. so yeah, so my so let's review top five. for me it's Jason, Leatherface, Pennywise, Hannibal Lecter And Dracula. jonathan: Very solid top five. I think I think our James: Yeah, I'm not merit. jonathan: f I think the five the top five each is gonna be you know we're we're we're gonna have the heavy hitters at the top. Like and then I got Michael Myers, Freddie Krueger, Frankenstein, Ghostface, and Norman Bates. So James: Yeah. jonathan: I think very solid overall. Now this is where in the episode it's gonna get tricky now. Because now again, it's not just the villains and everything. Because now Yeah, there are more horror movie villains, but are they more iconic than other characters in franchises? So for my next pick, I am taking Lori Strode from the Halloween franchise. James: Knew you were going I knew you were gonna do that, 'cause my next pick was actually gonna be Hero. But Lori Strode is not a bad pick. I'm not mad at it. jonathan: Laurie Stro Laurie Strode, Jamie Lee Curtis is the original Scream Queen. no, you know what? I'm I'm gonna take it back. Psycho, her her mother, Janet Lee, pay homage, the original one. James: Yeah. jonathan: But for the the length that Jamie Lee Curtis has endured this franchise and been a part of this franchise, she is no she is Lori Strode. She has embodied that character. She has carried the the mantle of Lori Strode and Scream Queen for over forty years. That is a testament to time and she is one of the most iconic female characters in horror movie history. James: No, I agree. I agree. I'm not shitting on that answer. I think she has stood the test of time. Her survivability in the films is believable, especially in the remakes that they made. No, I'm I'm not mad at that. So I mean sh this one's on my list for for for top hero anyway. I'm gonna go jonathan: Okay. James: Ripley from the Alien franchise. jonathan: Yep, that was it was Ripley or Strode I was taking. alright. James: Yeah, so the Alien franchise we didn't talk a lot in the sense of the horror franchise 'cause I don't consider the Alien franchise itself to be a horror franchise. jonathan: It's it's become it becomes more action sci-fi. The first one, yes. James: More sci-fi, yeah, yeah. But that original hands down a horror film and Ripley is a badass chick in it. Yeah, and yeah, jonathan: Yeah. And especially in the second one. I I like this pick. I yeah, yeah. James: she she's phen she was phenomenal and Sigorny Weaver played her played her perfectly, especially in the second one. Even even the subsequent third and fourth one, sh her character wasn't terrible in. The movies jonathan: No. James: were just terrible. jonathan: Yes. So I like that pick a lot. Cause it w they those were one two in the fem in the females. So I'm gonna go now with my next pick. I'm gonna go back to the villain and I'm gonna take Chucky. I think Chucky is James: Okay. I'm not bad at that. I'm not bad at that. jonathan: I think Chucky is the franchise might not be great, but everyone knows about the killer doll, Chucky. Brad Dorf voices him so good. it's been again, another franchise that's been almost forty years that now they have a TV show that this new wave of generation knows who Chucky is. And it's the TV James: Mm-hmm. jonathan: show is whatever, it's not great, but that's it's Chucky's Chucky. And the first one is is a classic horror movie. And you all knew everyone was scared that, you know, your toy everyone checked you checked your toys to make sure their batteries were in it. after you watch that movie. And it's it creeped the fuck out of a lot of people and it's a and it transcended more than horror as well. It went to like comedy horror and like other stuff. So I'm I'm I'm gonna take Chucky there this this late with a pick at sep at seven. I c I'm not gonna be mad at that. James: Mm-hmm. So I'm actually gonna stay in the realm of heroes, and I'm gonna go with Sydney Prescott. jonathan: Mother. okay. James: I think I think Sidney Prescott and Ripley are probably two and three behind Lori Strode when it comes to to horror horror queens. Sid jonathan: Don't hate that. James: Sydney Prescott, you know, has has her character is pr the definition of survivability. She's been through one, two, three, four five s she wasn't in six seven films. I'm pretty sure she's the last one standing out of all of jonathan: Yeah. James: yeah, and just Nev Campbell has been killing it since the nineties with her. So jonathan: that pick. I love it. We're gonna have some we're gonna have some good teams here. So my next one I'm gonna go I'm gonna complete the Halloween franchise. I'm gonna take Dr. Loomis. James: Knew I knew he was going with that. That's not a bad pick. I'm not mad at it. jonathan: It's you see Halloween, it's Michael, Laurie, Dr. Loomis. For even in the the trilogy remake, the reboot, whatever they did, the sequel to the ri James: Mm-hmm. jonathan: they had that homage opening scene in Kills where they did the CG the the actor came in and redid Loomis. But in Halloween one, two, four, five, six, the first two, Dr. Loomis The way he talks, the way he speaks about he's evil. He's evil. You genuinely feel my god, this guy's fucking evil. Like this James: Mm-hmm. jonathan: This guy is the definition of evil and he has no remorse. And towards like the last few sequels, he became obsessed with doing whatever it took to stop Michael Myers. Like in the fifth one, he basically takes a little girl, tells her like Stay right here. Michael's ten feet away from you, but I'm gonna use you as a as bait and then fucking do what I have to do to tranquilize him, kill him, and it's I I love Doctor Loomis as as this pick, so I'm gonna stick with Loomis here. James: No, I agree. So what is this? Number eight from jonathan: This is your number this is your number eight now. James: Alright, so I was holding on to this one to see how 'cause I generally think my earlier picks are stronger picks, but for this one I'm going to go with Reagan McNeil slash Pazuzu Demon from the Exorcist. jonathan: That's a good pick this late. So you went three straight female characters. I don't hate that. That's very solid. James: Yeah, I mean I mean, I you know, hor horror has a nice mix, but I I jonathan: No, you got listen. Yeah, you definitely have to. James: generally think Reagan McNeil and Pazuzu, the original Exorcist demon, jonathan: Yes. James: by far the scariest thing I've seen. you know, y you jonathan: yeah. James: you have your opinions on it, but w y when that movie first came jonathan: No, it it James: out, it literally led to people vomiting, passing out, This day it still scares me. Like you watch that alone, you still get creeped out by it. It's it's good. It's good. and then jonathan: Yeah. James: you know, Linda Linda Blair? Summa Blair? Linda Blair. Linda Blair, Summer jonathan: Salma player? James: Blair, killed it, killed it in that role. we're not gonna talk about the jonathan: She did. James: sequel. Shh, that was not good. but this yeah, I'm I'm that's a solid eight. Got five more each. jonathan: This is where now we start to get James: Yes. jonathan: But there is someone sitting here that I put my notes down. There's James: There's a couple of people sitting here that we haven't picked yet. jonathan: there's there's a there's a couple. There's a couple of villains though, but they're not they're not as iconic as some of these others. James: No. jonathan: I am gonna take for my next pick Now you mentioned Ripley from the franchise. Nah, I'm gonna go you know where I'm going? I'm gonna go Jack Torrance from The Shining. James: Okay. I'm not mad at that one. My only thing my jonathan: I think James: only gripe with that was it's a one and done film. but that being said, he's iconic. Yeah. jonathan: He's his d his his iconic you everyone knows from this horror film, here's Johnny of Jack Nicholson sticking his face through a door. James: Yeah. Yep. jonathan: The descent into madness, his his performance in the film is iconic. And Yeah. James: I mean technically this too. you have Doctor Sleep. jonathan: Yeah, you do, but I'm going Jack Torrance here with Jack Nicholson, giving arguably one of his best performances of all time in that film. So for me, I'll t I'll stick with Jack on I'll stick with Jack Nicholson on that one all day. James: That's a solid pick. Alright, so I'm gonna throw I'm gonna throw this name out. You probably don't know the name, but you know the franchise well not franchise, but the movie. I'm gonna go with Baghool, the demon from the Sinister movies. jonathan: That's a reach. Bagul? How the hell do you even spell that? Is James: Bagul is his name. jonathan: that like bagel? James: Yeah, it's Bagel. Little jonathan: Yeah. James: little Schmeer. A little Schmeer here. yeah, Bagul from the from the sinister films. Mainly because again, it's it's the it's the scare factor, he's got a good look to him. again, the sequel we're not gonna talk about too much, but that first movie with the the creepy music, every time you saw him on the screen. Yeah, no. No, I'm I'm jonathan: That's James: okay with that being my nine pick. jonathan: Alright, alright. my next pick, James: Top ten. Top ten. jonathan: I'm gonna go to the well here and I'm gonna take Clarice Stalling. James: That's funny. I thought you were gonna say the girl from the ring. I like, Is that what you said, the well? That's funny. jonathan: Da. Da. James: Clarice darling, okay. I'm not mad at it. jonathan: She is listen, she may not be as iconic as Hannibal Lecter, but Jodie Foster That her on screen presence and acting in Silence of the Lambs was great. I know we got Julianne Moore in the second one as her, but to me, Clary Stalling, Jordy Foster, that character in Silence of the Lambs, that was as good as performance of two. Actor and actresses an actor and actress playing off each other and carrying a f and doing so much for a film together. So I'm gonna c I'm gonna give flowers to Clarice Starling the James: Yeah, I'm not mad at that. I'm not mad at Clarice rounding your top ten. I mean, Jody Foster killed it in that role. God, I wish he came back for Hannibal. We we keep saying that. There's like thir third episode in a row where we say that, but like i i it was a creative jonathan: I don't I don't I don't understand I don't understand how they didn't bring her back. James: thing. I don't know either. But to round out my top ten, I'm gonna go with a newer face. I'm gonna go with Art the Clown. jonathan: no I you fell into the James: What the f no. jonathan: That's y I get it, but James: I got two clowns on my fucking team and I hate clowns. jonathan: Yeah, what are you doing? I get it. James: okay, you took the entire Halloween franchise. jonathan: I mean I mean you can't blame me if I gotta round out the fucking team. Gotta bring the team together, bro. They gotta come together. Gotta James: Gotta support the team. jonathan: support the team. Loomis, get your ass in there. James: Alright, who do you got? Number eleven. This is where it's gonna start jonathan: Alright, so you James: to get tight. jonathan: so you took off the clown. I'm crossing that off. I have him on here, it's just I So I'm gonna go with for my eleventh pick I've got to go with Hmm. There's some names on here. There are some names. Now if we had fifteen this was where it would get tougher. But I think I still have an iconic horror movie villain sitting staring at me. I gotta go jigsaw. He's he's staring James: Yeah. Okay. I jonathan: at me in the face. You know, he's got a James: only th my only problem with Jigsaw is why I didn't rank him high higher is he was kinda useless after the first movie. After the second movie wasn't him, it was Amanda. In the third movie it was Amanda. And then the fourth movie it was dot it was Dr. Gordon. Like but no, I yeah. Yeah. Idea ideal, right. jonathan: Yeah, but but it's it's it's ten it's a s it's a story of ten films of one guy's fucked up mind and vision. Y yeah. So that's listen, James: I'm gonna edit it. jonathan: I I listen, I got him it I got him this late. I I mean I take one of the biggest horror franchises of the past twenty years, the villain. I'll take that. He made that deal. James: Okay. Then I'm gonna take one of the more notable horror icons, pinhead. jonathan: I had him but I just I'm I'm more I'm James: Yeah, I just there's something yeah. jonathan: more into the I'm more into the other franchises than him, but I understand the look and everything and what he did for horror, so James: Exactly. Let's go let's go lead symbiote in Pinhead. jonathan: Okay. James: To start we got the final twos now, four more. jonathan: Okay. I'm gonna go with This is tough now. Now this is tough. James: Yeah, now it's tough. jonathan: Not taking that. Do do. Do I do I take you know what? I'm gonna James: Dun. jonathan: do it. I'm gonna take Dewey from Scream. James: Do you overgale? jonathan: yes. James: All right. jonathan: Dewey Dewey is Ca he was in the franchise for four films out of the the Whatever before he met his demise in five. And it's one of the most surprising deaths in the franchise, let alone horror films. And you all knew who Dewey was in the films. He was always this goofy cop who was trying to save the day and just every fucking film. kept getting fucked up every film. James: That was his role though. jonathan: I know, but he just kept coming back. And then finally, like when you when you split a guy from top to bottom, I think that does it. James: Soup to nuts. jonathan: Yeah, he was he was he was done. So I'm gonna take Dewey definitely and I'm okay with that. James: I like the homage they did to that because they're like, what how do you gut someone? It's like you take a knife and you cut them from sten to stern. And that's what they did to Dewey. I'm gonna go with Candyman. jonathan: So you can have them. James: Damn. No love for Candyman. jonathan: I do, but I just feel like he's like the least of the villains. James: I mean, he's literally my number twelve pick. jonathan: I know. But like I'm saying, like we mentioned like I take I I definitely take Ripley, Sidney Prescott, Reagan over James: Yeah. jonathan: Candyman. I I would take Candyman over the Bagel or Bagul, whatever the fuck his name is. James: Goooo This fucking guy gone bagel. jonathan: And for my final pick I am gonna go with I'm tearing at my heart here. Alright, so since you got one pick after, we can I can openly discuss where I'm gonna head right now. So I was gonna go with not taking him. I'm not taking him. I'm thinking about carry James: Okay. jonathan: I'm not gonna take them. Randy I'm not taking 'cause I already got Dewey. James: Mm-hmm. jonathan: I was gonna take one of the priests from the Exorcist. I was thinking about Father Karas or Merrin and James: Okay. jonathan: the f impact, but I'm gonna cross them out. I'm not taking Haley Joel Osmond six cents. James: I know. jonathan: I was thinking about Patrick Bateman. James: Okay. jonathan: I'm gonna I'm gonna cross him out though. James: Why? jonathan: I just don't know. I don't know. I got no James: I I just don't know. jonathan: I got I got no reasons why. I'm just trying to narrow this down and cross everything off as I'm I'm not gonna take Damien from the Omen. I kinda James: Okay. jonathan: want to. I kinda want to, but I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna take Rosemary from Rosemary's baby because I feel the movie is more about The town and everything and the what's going on than just rosemary's. James: The apartment, yeah. jonathan: Yeah. I'm thinking I'm not gonna take Xenome off. because I feel like I'm I'm torn between four things. I narrowed it down. I'm torn between Carrie, Quint from Jaws Nancy Thompson from Nightmare on Elm Street or The Bride of Frankenstein. I'm really James: You have two villains and two heroes. jonathan: I know. So Quent I feel shared the scent was Quint was iconic though. That speech where he goes for ten thousand dollars he goes I'll give you the the head, the tail, the whole damn James: The head, the tail, the whole damn thing. jonathan: thing. this is tough. This is fucking tough here. I you know who else I had and you would appreciate? I had Dick Holleran from The Shining. I was g I was think James: That's a good one. jonathan: I was but I was like I got I got Jack Torrance already. I don't know. I don't James: But why don't you have Danny? jonathan: have reasons. I don't I Danny? No, no fuck Danny. James: Debbie Torrance. jonathan: Danny's not here, Mrs. Torrance. James: Mrs. Torrance Red Ra. jonathan: what is it? Bride of Frankenstein. I think I'm gonna go Bride of Nancy Thompson and Yeah, I think Bride of Frankenstein. James: Hm. Solid pick. jonathan: Bride of Frankenstein. James: I like your thought process. I like it. jonathan: it's it's it's tough. It's tough to narrow down after all that, but the Bride Frankenstein she's she's iconic and the the film of Frankenstein and his bride together, that closings that that scene where she looks at him and screams and he's like, No, no and she screams and then he goes, We belong dead That's that's iconic. James: Yeah. jonathan: That's iconic, so I'm gonna close it out with Brida Frankenstein as my last spot. That was tough, that James: All right. Yeah, I mean jonathan: was that was that was gut-wrenching to pick one of those out of those fucking things. James: I'm g I'm going through my list and I have a lot of people that you said, including, you know, Father Karis, Father Father Merrin, 'cause I'm down t I'm down to jonathan: Take me and he gets possessed and it's so good that scene. James: And they bring that back in the third one. because again, I'm trying to think like is iconic of all time, plus we have to start to acknowledge some of the newer ones. So I'm going through my list jonathan: Yes. James: of what's left over. I have Annabelle. I have Valak the nun. I have the Warrens. I have Jeep jonathan: I had I had the I had the Warrens. I didn't have Annabelle or the nun. I didn't have them. James: I have Right. I have the Jeepers Creepers monster. jonathan: I had that and I crossed it. James: I have Damien the Omen, I have the Strangers, the Three Strangers, I have Samara from the Ring, the Demon from the Grudge, jonathan: Okay. James: the Lipstick Demon from Insidious, Xenomorph, the J Shark from Jaws, the Mummy, and Wolfman. So thinking about icon, obviously mummy and wolfman are up there, but my only problem with mummy and wolfman are the wolf man is not iconic as a werewolf is. Two different characters. Cause each werewolf is a different character, you know what mean? the mummy again is different characters, so I can't say that. jonathan: Mm-hmm. James: But then I was going over other st stupid characters Pamela Voorhees, Tiffany Valentine, Amanda from Saw, Doctor Gordon. jonathan: Tiffi Tiffany Valentine. James: Fucky. jonathan: get the fuck out of here with that. James: Well, I'm just naming characters. jonathan: Yeah, no, I I get it, but James: Amanda from Saw, Doctor Gordon from Saw, Ash from Alien, the Cyborg. jonathan: Okay. James: but honestly, if I'm gonna go to old if I'm gonna go for look, if I'm gonna go for presence, and I'm gonna go for iconic, I'm gonna have to go xenomorph. jonathan: Yeah. Yeah. I I don't hate it. It's Xenomorph, everyone knows the Xenomorph. I was I was on the fence with that and I just I I didn't pull the trigger on it. I was really James: I mean you jonathan: t I I was really torn with this last few spots because like you're try I'm trying to not I'm trying to figure out like which characters Are more than just villains, but also you know them better than some villains. Like James: Right, right. So for me my my my jonathan: Like like like Doc like Doctor Loomis like Doctor Loomis to me is bigger than you can make the argument that Dr. Loomis is just as big as Jigsaw. That's it that's what I'm factoring in. I'm factoring that it's tough. It's James: See, I I would agree with you if everybody saw movies the way you see movies. If you're gonna put a picture of Donald Pleasant and a picture of Jigsaw, everybody's gonna identify Jigsaw quicker. You know what mean? so jonathan: get it, but you should you should you then you should all educate yourself if you don't know who Doctor Loomis James: No, I agree with you. I agree with you. jonathan: is. James: That's why I'm thinking like the characters I picked. I think Bagul was probably my biggest stretch, but all my other characters are pretty notable, even if you're not a big horror see a horror fan, you know what I mean? jonathan: Yeah, I definitely think so. I definitely and you know, we we discussed like I know you you mentioned some people at the end and stuff the same way I did. And I feel that, you know, yeah, they all everyone should know the majority of the people James: Like everybody knows Jamie Le Curtis and Laurie Strode. Dr. jonathan: Yes. James: Loomis might be a little bit of a stretch. Unless you again, you know, we're catering to the horror community, they know who Doctor Loomis is. A unless you fucking better if you're gonna sit there and call yourself jonathan: I I get it. You bet you James: a horror fan. jonathan: Yeah, you better know who Dr. Loomis is. And you know, I I the with the classics, you you should you should know Bride of Frankenstein. Y the Bride. Like James: Frankenstein Yeah, Dracula, Bride F yeah. jonathan: like Xenomorph like everyone should fucking know. James: You may not know its name, but you know what it is. Right. jonathan: You know the creature, yeah. The thing the thing with Candyman, I I I didn't I James: Candyman's a rough one. Candyman you may not know. jonathan: I didn't take him because I feel that Candyman wasn't as the first one he was big, but then after that, like I th the sequels if like it just wasn't like I feel like it wasn't pushed. Like it wasn't like like Michael, Jason, Freddie, Pinhead Arthur Clown even Chucky, they they was like pushed down your throat, like you knew who this was. Candyman, like we we know because of like you said, we're we're horror movies. We've we've seen the horror genre. And like if you saw was Sidney Todd, right? That's his name. James: Mm-hmm. jonathan: So if you just saw a picture of him ho in his coat opening his mouth with the bees coming out, would everybody know that? You should. You a thousand percent should. James: You should right. Probably not though. jonathan: It's just tough but but I I I don't hate the list. Like again, we had like very good honorable mentions that we were debating cutting down. is there anyone that you would have that you felt you wish you could have gotten onto your list that you didn't? James: From your list? jonathan: No no no from just just in j just that you James: no, no. jonathan: that you were talking about. I liked I liked I like the fact that we both mentioned the Warrens. James: Yeah. Yes, but again, I don't think they're iconic enough to identify who they are. You know? but I I feel like jonathan: Yes, I I agree with that. And I also feel that, you know, it's James: the nun has reached that level. Annabelle may have reached that level where you know w who they are, where they're from. But they're just not. I wouldn't consider them iconic. jonathan: Yeah, that's nah. I don't feel that they're there yet. you know, I I liked Nancy Thompson from Elm Street, Nightmare on Elm Street, but I feel James: Nobody's gonna know who she is. jonathan: exactly she was in two of the f first films and then she was in Wes Craven's New Nightmare. James: And then right. jonathan: But again, I I don't think anyone's gonna recognize Heather Langenkap and be like, that's that's James: Nobody is. jonathan: Nan that's Nancy from Nightmare on Elm Street. James: Right. Everybody's gonna recognise Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance. Everybody's gonna jonathan: Yeah. James: recognise Pinhead. Everybody's gonna recognise Nev Campbell, Reagan. Right, jonathan: Nev Campbell. Neve Campbell is Sidney Prescott. Yeah. James: Reagan as the demon. Nah I'm happy with our list. Yeah, so suck it, internet. jonathan: Yeah, I think we had Yeah. You know what I will say the one I I kinda wish I was I had a spot for? Carrie. Carrie James: Yeah. jonathan: Sissy Spacek is if you put the picture of her covered in blood, I think a lot of James: Have you seen the new show? jonathan: I have not. I have not c I James: I haven't seen it yet either. jonathan: I I I've heard you know I I'm I'm hesitant, you know, with old horror remakes and stuff and I I'm just so hesitant, man, because they butcher everything so badly nowadays and James: The guy who directed Dr. Sleep directed this show. So I I think I might give it a try. Damn man. That was good. Good list. Solid list. jonathan: Alright. Maybe I'll give it a shot. Yeah. Yeah, that was g listen, that was a that was very solid list. And we'll have more drafts and lists to come in different episodes. And you know, I think we definitely hit on everything that needed to be hit on with the horror movie icons and it was actually more pleasant than I thought it was gonna be. I thought we were gonna be at each other's throats a little bit this one, but James: No, I think because Hora has an abundance of people to pick from, we we we're happy with our picks even though we weren't maybe w there was a couple like that I took that you would have wanted, but overall I think we're happy with our overall picks. jonathan: Yeah, you could you could definitely have a s a stacked lineup in the horror genre. Now, as James: Yeah, absolutely. jonathan: far as as far as other genres, when we get to those down the line, that's gonna be a different episode, a different topic. James: Just getting started, brother. jonathan: Alright, boys and girls. That wraps up the most iconic horror characters episode here at Popcorn Power. Ladies and gentlemen, it has been a pleasure. Have a great night and great day, and we will see you all on the next episode. James: Peace.
