Michael: Wha what was what was your synopsis again of of the hawk? Meh. Meh I would love to what what was that from the ⁓ the Blue Jean committee? Our ⁓ second follow up album, the the review just said no. I'm not saying no. I mean there were some I there were some parts I enjoyed, but For it being ten episodes again and maybe I was hoping for something different. Sure. I was I was hoping for a lot more like golf, like they skip the whole US Open and just go straight to the final day, you know, last couple holes. Could have done so much for Yeah, yeah. There's there's I told you, there's a lot more backstories that they're doing. There's a lot more personal connections that that revolves around the show. As opposed to like if Golf is a second thought. It's an aftermath. Just so happens to be in the show 'cause is of it 'cause of his profession. Yeah. Well that's the just strange to me. I mean, there are so many jokes you can make. ⁓ all the different you know, the two shots at a bunker, right? Like yeah, the the men's warehouse shots, right? All those little jokes you can work in. Over several days. Yeah, just digging at each other at the turn. I don't know. They could have done a lot or just, you know, showing the drama between day one, day two, day three, that roller coaster of emotion. Yeah. So I don't know. Again, it w wasn't wasn't bad. It wasn't good. It was meh. Meh. Just a just a meh. I I I want that category on Netflix. ⁓ E H. Why? Meh. I would've no, 'cause I wouldn't turn into it. Well, there's a It's weird because it's one of those shows I would never watch again, but I'm not that upset that I watched it. Does that make any sense? Yeah. And I wouldn't recommend it. I wouldn't tell someone you gotta watch it. R it just existed. It just existed. So it's weird category. Yeah. Well I kinda like those categories because I I sometimes turn on something just as as mindless entertainment. Something in the background I don't I can kind of watch but not really pay attention to. Like if I'm working and I don't want to listen to music, right? Or I need something to just kind of drown out while I focus or clean the house, right? Yeah. That's what a meh movie is for. Anything too good, I'm not getting the task done. Anything too bad, and I'll and I'll probably have to turn it off. You know? Like that meh category. It's great for it's like the low five music version of movies. Yeah. I have a problem where no matter what movie I turn on, no matter how good it is, and also almost what time of day, if I get horizontal, I'm out. Mm-hmm. I couldn't tell you the last time I actually like stayed up and watched a whole movie. Well, I it was over two hours. I think your horizontal might be ⁓ broader medical issue 'cause I don't think I've ever seen you go horizontal and not fall asleep during like yoga or stretching. In all fairness, that's how you sleep. That's what you're supposed to do. True, true. Yeah. Yeah. It's a habit. Yeah. Well, I mean, there's just not been a ton of movies that have like really stood out recently. No, but even like some of my favorites. I don't know. Well once you've seen You know, like Yeah, but it's like been years since I've seen him. Like I tried to watch Batman versus Superman. Okay. It took me three tries. Three tries. How far did you get each time? Like twenty five minute increments? ⁓ a half hour, fell asleep. Sure. And then it was late, I will I will say that. Okay. Yeah. And then ⁓ probably probably about an hour and a half. And then I finished the rest. ⁓ after another nap. Okay. Yeah, it took me took two naps. Three tries two naps. You know, that's that's fair. That sounds like a Sunday, you know. Lord of the Rings was on over the weekend. I watched that. Yeah, I I fell asleep in two towers and woke up a return of the gang. Yeah, but Michael, I'm an adult. I should be able to stay up for more than three hours. I mean you get that age you get work you get through work though, right? ⁓ of course. Okay. Yeah, but that's because I have tasks. Sure. I don't know. Well, I again I think it it could be like the quality of the movie, right? I sometimes I pick movies out specifically so I can take a nap during ⁓ Yeah, well yeah, that that goes without saying. Yeah. Well, it's also like if you're watching it during the work, w like it's really hard for me to start a movie after eight thirty. You know? Like I g I gotta tell myself I'm not gonna make it through all of this. So if I start this, I'm gonna have to do part two tomorrow night. I gotta I gotta clear my schedule for the next day to make sure I gotta wake up early. I gotta set my alarm at five because I gotta finish it. I did that with V for Vendetta. I haven't seen that movie in forever. And started it. ⁓ it's good. It Natalie Portmanny Dupp? No, that's Hugo Weaving, Natalie Portman. ⁓ it's based on a comic book. ⁓ it's kind of like ⁓ anti government or like it's ⁓ kind of like a violent nineteen eighty-four, I think is the best way to put it. Sounds gross. Yeah, well no, it's it's pretty good. I I just remember it was like really, really popular when I was like late middle school, early high school time frame. And that that's like what all my friends would watch was V for Vendetta always be on at their house, and I haven't watched it in old geez ten years, maybe even longer than that. So like threw it on Saturday night and then it was like creeping up towards like ten. I'm like, ⁓ god, I can't do this. Did it hold up to your expectations? It was it was a good rewatch. I'm glad I rewatched it. Would I would I put it back in circulation sometime soon? Probably not. But ⁓ But it it was a good rewatch. I did that one and then what was the other one I rewatched? I've been I've been trying to like pick out these like not not obscure movies, just like movies from like Not childhood, not Disney, right? Yeah, no no no. But ⁓ well I kinda so there's one that I've been trying to watch and I can't finish it, not because I'm falling asleep, but because I do get a little scared watching it by myself. Which one? The Mothman Prophecies. Ooh. Haven't seen that one in ⁓ it I don't think Have you ever seen it? I remember watching it 'cause it's Richard Gere, right? ⁓ believe so I I remember it coming out I think I remember catching it on TV but I I couldn't tell you what happened. Yeah it's Richard Greer. Yeah. He is he's this publicist or whatever. But anyway, or com he's a journalist. Yeah. He's driving home one night and his wife sees this like weird figure in these eyes. They get in a car accident and she dies. And then so for years he's just kind of living with this but he doesn't say anything about it 'cause he doesn't know what the fuck she saw. And then there seems to be some sort of sightings of this thing or same story in this place in West Virginia. Yeah. So then he goes to the small town, starts doing this investigation, people who've suddenly seen it and then it starts like kinda going after him a little bit, ⁓ predicting predicting life events that are gonna happen. Like ⁓ like certain amount of people are gonna die in an airplane crash tomorrow. So like, you know, weird cataclysms. Not like you're gonna spill your coffee, like weird cataclysms. Yeah. ⁓ so that's a part of that backstory. And then the that bri there's a bridge in it that famously collapsed one night. And that was like one of the final sightings of the Mothman. ⁓ damn. And so there is some like it's obviously a fiction, but there is some like some of that you know, conspiracy thrown in there for Moth. Sure. Cause isn't Mothman hasn't he been seen in like ill like in the Midwest? It's been seen in O'Hare a couple of years ago. Shit. I'm dead serious. I'm talking just like right around COVID. Really? ⁓ yeah. I didn't I didn't be careful. ⁓ yeah. Did we have like a big spotlight to help the planes and then all of a sudden Mothman like bumped into it? There was no, cause there was Stories of different flight crews seeing it. Okay. ⁓ over the years and like different a couple different stories. But yeah, it was ⁓ it says twenty eleven, but I think there was some earlier than that. Yeah. No, you're right. I remember hearing something a a a few years ago, COVID time l time frame. I think that I think out of like all the cryptids to run into, I I wanna say Mothman might be the creepiest. It reminds me of the fly from the Ninja Turtles. Yeah. Well, 'cause like if you bump into Bigfoot, right, I think I think Bigfoot is is o almost the the same as like seeing Elvis, you know? Like, ⁓ my God, it's it's obviously him, you know? ⁓ but seeing Mothman, because because of what it is, I think that's truly like, ⁓ my god, what the Fuck is that? You know, and then it's gone and you don't know what you saw, and people probably aren't gonna believe you because Mothman is kind of like that that B B tier in popularity. How would they believe you if it's Bigfoot? I I don't I don't know. I just think like if I came to you and said, Hey, I saw Bigfoot, ⁓ there there'd be some probing questions and A lot of probing questions. Yeah, but if I saw Mothman I I think there would be a lot of probing questions. No, no, no. I probe. I still probe just as hard. ⁓ yeah. Yeah, but I think me personally seeing Mothman would would scare me more than I think. ⁓ yeah, he's a scarier he's a scarier being. Yeah. I like to think they're from the same dimension. ⁓ probably. Yeah, probably. I think do you think like one portal opened up one time and that's when we got Bigfoot, Mothman, Loch Ness? ⁓ Chupacabra. What if Mothman is just a giant fly? Like he's just a fly in a different dimension. Just flies are that big. Yeah. Could you imagine the fly swatters? Flies are flies are seven feet b seven feet tall, flies. It kind of makes me think about like the end of Men in Black, you know, when they zoom out and the the whole universe is just ⁓ the size of your little finger mail bracelet. ⁓ huh. Yeah. Yeah. ⁓ That that would that just kinda freaks me out a little bit. I was watching something on the ⁓ the size of space the other day. ⁓ it's nuts. Hold on, hold on. Before you jump to that, sorry. The last reported Mothman sighting occurred April twenty twenty four in Kane County, Illinois, where a trucker claimed wing creature chases vehicle at sixty miles an hour. Jeez. What the rock? Yeah. And then Rockford Lold you stop fucking with me. God damn it, Terry. Yeah, twenty se twenty seventeen, fi over fifty five reported witnesses around the O'Hare area in twenty seventeen. So he likes to chill in Illinois, Michael. We might get this ⁓ meet this mothman. I think it's the lights. I think he's got the moth quality of being attracted to lights. And he bumps into him. Maybe. Could you just imagine? Like ⁓ don't don't turn on the spotlights. Mothman's in the area. He's gonna run right into it. Right? Bump it into Sears Thousand stuff. We just cleaned all the windows and now Mothman ran into one of ⁓ It was a total mess. Third time this month, damn it. It was a total mess. Scared scared the maid half to death. Now we got this big streak of moth all over the window. We gotta do the whole thing over again. Damn it, mothman. Do you think there's do you think there's a government agency that like cleans up little accidents like this? Like, God damn it, Terry, I told you turn the lights off. Kinda like in John Wick, where they have the cleanup crew. Right. There's they say that's what happened with ⁓ Charlie Kirk. ⁓ well, I think I think that was all the ground around him the day after and then they just cemented over it. Yeah, that's that's fucking weird. Two different companies. Two different companies. It was the same shit I heard about ⁓ one of the many ⁓ disappearance ⁓ stories of Jimmy Hoffa. It was actually my English teacher that told me about that. But ⁓ yeah, see, I think the people who clean up after cryptids is kinda like maybe the the the triple A team, right? Like maybe like a D two or D three, you know? And then the better that you get up at cleanup, right? Then you can like graduate into men in black or more prestigious, secretive government agency, you know. I I just like to just like to imagine that there's like different tiers. Of I like to think that they were like contract killers, you know, back in the day they were really, really good at their job, but they were the ones that got mad at everybody for making a mess at the scene. Yeah. You know, they wanted to have it squeaky clean so no one knew anything. And then like you got you gotta call Frank. The amount his bleach recipe, the amount of scrubs he brings, he really does a great job. The way he wraps the bodies, I've never seen anything like it. He he retired, created the scrub daddy. The best seller. That's his front. Yeah. No, so the the story that I heard about Jimmy Hoffa, right? It goes into the cement thing. It was my English teacher in high school, told me about this, that one of his Dad's neighbors had a farm in upstate New York and they were thinking about paving the inside of this horse arena to concrete, but they never really settled on like a content tract with anybody. And this was fifties, sixties, Jimmy like the height of Jimmy Hoffa, right? And like unions and stuff. ⁓ and he said that one afternoon he saw two the dad Right, saw two black Cadillacs parked at the end of his driveway. And then the next morning he walked into the horse arena and the whole thing had been cemented. And then that day it was announced that Jimmy Hoffa was missing. So I mean, one of the what thousand different stories about what happened potentially to Jimmy Hoffa. I just thought it was weird that I came from my English teacher of all people. Yeah. That's a crazy one. But yeah, with But don't say that name on on the air then. Yeah, well, I ⁓ couldn't even tell you. Some people say that he's in the he's buried in Meadowlands, ⁓ you know, the one of the end zones. Yep. Giant stadium. Mythbusters did an episode of the highway. Mythbusters went to ⁓ to that stadium and did ground detection radar to see if there's any stuff. If they f Michael, if they did find it, do you really think they would announce it on Mythbusters? Hell no. It was just a cool it was just a cool episode. Well they're starting to find a bunch of ⁓ out in what's the lake in Vegas? Or like Nevada. Not Tahoe. There's another one. ⁓ yes, I see Salt Lake not Salt Lake. Yeah, there's another ⁓ it's turning into a pond now 'cause ⁓ it's evaporating. ⁓ Lake Mead. Yeah, there you go. They're starting to find all the bodies and like barrel drums and like guns and all the stuff from that era that they used to so people think he's there, you know, gonna be in one of those. ⁓ I don't know. I don't know. It's funny how much they're finding. Right. Yeah. Six sets of human remains were recovered from Lake Mead during a twenty twenty two water level drop. Right. Which makes me wonder like why didn't they put ⁓ the Spilotro brothers? Out there. They had to put ⁓ in the farm. So they're from here No, so that's actually not accurate how that ends. Really? Yeah. So ⁓ what because they're from around here, they're from Franklin Park area. And ⁓ and for the actually sorry, just for the uninitiated, this is Joe Pesci's character in casino that we're talking about. Yes. Yes, yeah. ⁓ but so after I I was all said and done years and years, one of them came forward and said that they actually they beat the shit out of ⁓ in a warehouse in Bensonville. Yep. And then they dragged their bodies out to that farm and buried them. So like they didn't beat them. So they didn't like wail on ⁓ there at the farm. Sure. They yeah. They took their time with them in a warehouse in Bensonville. That's wild. Yeah. Yeah, that scene kind of fucked me up when I was a kid. ⁓ for sure, dude. I was probably like probably like ten years old watching with my dad and it was the unedited one and I was like it's like it's not He just killed those set of brothers with bats. Right. And it's not so much like I mean, yes, it's a horrific scene, but the part that always got me is Stop, he's still breathing. You know, that's what I was like. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah, this is a little much for my mystery. They were friends. They've known each other for twenty years. Right? ⁓ Yeah, I can't do do you think the outfit's still around? Absolutely. Yeah. Of course. There's ⁓ there's a couple of subreddits dedicated to it. I I follow some like the mob and mafia like subreddits, right? And and there's still a lot of predominance in I see a and hear a lot about in Philly specifically. ⁓ 'cause that's where they blew up the chicken man. Yep. ⁓ R I P right. And then who was it? It was only I think it was the same COVID time frame. There was ⁓ there's a mob guy who was shot in a ⁓ shit, it was a drive through. I think. He was connected to the Philly mob. ⁓ New York still. Yeah. It was something like that. It was it was within the last ten years. There was like a ⁓ a predominant mob hit. So to speak. ⁓ like you would hear about in the movies, which I always thought was really interesting. I wonder what they're getting into these days, you know, because it used to be like gambling, and I'm sure they still are with DraftKings and all that other online stuff. There was a huge ⁓ MBA thing. Remember? Like cut like last year? No, we were gonna talk about this. We brought this up a couple episodes ago that we were gonna bring talk about this, but we never got into it. So what what happened with that? There was a bunch of there's like some coaches and some players that ⁓ I don't know the exact story, so I apologize if I butchered this, but there was something about some gambling debts where they were playing like it was I think it was like card, you know, poker stuff. Mm-hmm. And ⁓ I got the mob is somehow intertwined with it. I don't wanna out you know, overspeak or so overstate, but somehow the mafia was involved and the FBI brought down some like profound names in the NBA from like coaching and players. Status and then also some like mobsters as well. Okay. I got this from so they kind of keep finding more and more of it. Sure. I got this from ⁓ NBC. This was from March of this year. Justice Department expects to extend plea deals to twelve involved with the NBA mafia ribbed mafia rigged poker cases. ⁓ mob link poker case led to charges against a basketball hall of famer. What does that mean, mafia rigged? It's the mob's probably 'cause like when I hear but like when I hear rigged, I like you cheated the game. Sure. Well let's let's find out. Does that just mean they were hosting? Like the mafia hosted? Yeah, they probably trying to make this sound much worse than it actually was. Probably. Well, I mean, some of it's gotta be for a little bit of a hype, right? 'Cause to attach Mafia to anything you're gonna get a lot larger audience, right? But I'm sure I didn't know they were mafia. I just like the Manhattans here, you know? Right, they them they make them they got a mean mast the choli. How was I supposed to know it was Jimmy the cards? You know? ⁓ I'm guessing that they let's see, ⁓ a separate investigation into what law enforcement officials described as a mafia organized rigged poker game led to charges for Chauncey Billups, former player and coach Damon Jones. ⁓ very serious situation. The irony I guess from my perspective was yesterday was a day when our general counsel came down, blah blah blah blah blah. That doesn't really say anything. So did they only get caught because the game was rigged? Or is it are they just using that word just to make it sound like Maybe maybe both. I don't know. I would have to I would have to read into the story. I mean, from what I know from the Sopranos, they do hold big poker games, right? And then and then you, you know, can basically get money from the house, so now you're indebted into the mafia, you know. ⁓ and then they probably get points or percentages off of some other stuff, you know. So Let's see, that doesn't really say in this article how it was rigged. My guess is it's the house always wins type of thing, right? And then he's just why would you play with the mob in the first place? Maybe they didn't know. Maybe they didn't wait, maybe they went for the Mostacholi. They knew they heard the guy made a good cannoli, they showed up, one thing led to another, and now you're in debt. I just I just feel like there would be a lot of signs, you know? Like a lot of signs. In hindsight, I'll give you I'll give you one, maybe two weeks of going there playing poker. But if you go three times, like you you know. Right? Like maybe I should have counted the amount of wife beaters ⁓ were in that room, you know? ⁓ there was there was a lot of a lot of hair gel and everybody saying, Whoa, hey, Yeah, like w where's Frankie? ⁓ don't worry about it. He's not with us no more. They all had fun nicknames for each other. Frankie the Fingers. Fat Joe Tony. ⁓ yeah, I don't know. I would be interested to see like exactly what it was, but like I know the MBA obviously is getting tied up in it but like are they taking down the mafia guys too? Or like are they are they taking the rap for the mob? These are all great questions and I I I don't have the answer yet. Why come on NBC do your do your job. I think the ⁓ I don't know if the investigation is still going or I think could probably. ⁓ since November the government has produced discovery materials on a rolling basis Includes evidence from s seized from seven electronic devices, over a hundred thousand pages of financial records, a telephone record, over eight hundred pages of surveillance, phot photographs, ⁓ and other material. ⁓ discovery also included pole camera video from one of the locations of the alleged illegal poker games, several terabytes Jesus, that's a lot. Of data from electronic devices and iCloud accounts. Hmm. ⁓ I don't think they were wonder their big crazy purchases were. Right? To ⁓ a fur coat in July. It was on it's on sale in July. Right, right, exactly. Yeah. I don't know. I'm gonna have to read into this a little bit more. But I mean I'm sure anybody because like it's not the first time you've heard about NBA or really any sports figure having some sort of like severe gambling debt or gambling issues, right? I mean, we covered the nineteen nineteen Black Sock. Right. here's over a hundred years ago. This one kinda dives into it a little bit more. This is from an article, I mean twenty-five, October twenty-five. One focused on an illegal sports betting scheme that allegedly relied on insider NBA information. The other involved high stakes poker games linked to the Genovese, Gambino, Lucchese, and Bonano crime families. ⁓ Prosecutors say Bill Ups helped cheat participants out of more than seven million through the use of X-ray tables, high tech glasses, and futuristic tools. So my guess is that from what I'm kind of piecing together here is a mob game. Billps was using technology to basically rig the poker game and then he was giving the mob the cut for it. And then also using, ⁓ you know, so and so's gotta hurt ankles, so don't bet on the Knicks tonight, you know. Yeah. Do you think that it was tough to stop ⁓ cheating with gambling and and ⁓ Quidditch? For Harry Potter. Y I prob probably. I mean, you probably had to do a no wand rule inside the stadium, you know. Yeah. Everyone packs their wands. I don't know the rule with wands though, because you could see sometimes they cast spells without their wands. That's that's how Snape I don't know what the rule is with wands. That's how Snape actually ⁓ made sure that Harry was protected in the second movie, I think it was. First movie. First movie. First movie. Because it was Professor Quarrel. i.e. Snape, or not Snape, fucking Voldemort, right? That was trying to get him hurt, and then it was Snape was trying to protect him, but they thought it was vice versa. Yep. So you can't have wandless magic. Did you ever see the Key and Peel skit about the ⁓ Cortho University? That's no. It was the inner city version of Hogwarts. It's such an underrated skit. There's like one guy spray painting. He's got an invisibility cloak on, right? And he's like, How are you gonna tag a building in an invisibility cloak when I can see you spray painting? One out of six girls in this school is pregnant with a demon baby. That's so funny, dude. It's so funny. Did you ever hear the ⁓ the theory that Harry Potter is just a a made up story that Harry told himself to get through living under the stairs. Did you ever hear about that? It's like the No It's like the darkest theory attached to Harry Potter. It's pretty depressing. No. Yeah. I did ⁓ I did hear the theory that that him, Snape and Voltimort are the are the three brothers In the last in that little poem. There is truth to that. Yeah. Because Harry had the invisibility cloak, right? Snape ⁓ wanted to bring his Harry's mom back from the death we were ⁓ which is the The Resurrection Stone. Resurrec I wanted to call it the so Soul Stone, but that's fucking Marvel. And then ⁓ Voldemort had the ⁓ Elder One. I think it's a little crazy that Harry had the elder one, then he just broke it and like threw it over the bridge. You know? It's too it's too much, man. It's too much because then people are gonna wanna come after you as well. Once word gets out, you got the elder one. What's stopping Hagrid from going down there f fly fishing and then accidentally finds both people? I know he broke it, but it's magic. You can put it together with magic, can't you? 'Cause you know Michael, 'cause you know what the elder one does? That's how you get the Waco kid in twenty years from Blazing Saddles. Everyone's just coming after him day after day, just trying to fight him 'cause they want a piece of After a while it just gets old and you just turn to the bottle. Came up, shot me right in the ass. Shot me in the ass. Yeah. He stupefied me. Right in the ass. ⁓ Yeah. I thought that was like a crazy kind of theory though. ⁓ I mean it was like a dark, depressing theory though, to say the least, right? That's kinda like the ⁓ Rugrats theory with I think it's ⁓ I don't know if it's like Tommy's actually dead and that's why Stu makes toys for kids. Yep. ⁓ No, that's exactly what it is. Yeah. And people have really fucking dark minds. I know. Why? Why would you even go with that? And that the other one is Angelica's doll, is actually her mom. And ⁓ the Cynthia doll is actually Angelica's mom. But her mom was like a drug addict, like crackhead. And then her parents are adoptive parents, so she carries around the doll as like the last memory of her mom. ⁓ god. I know, dude. And that Phil and Lil, That that doll is hideous. I know it's creepy. ⁓ Phil and Lil ⁓ were apparently in this theory anyway, they were ⁓ stillborns or like ⁓ I can't remember what they call it. But that's why there's two of ⁓ because they didn't know if it was gonna be a boy or a girl or not. Why are you reading this stuff? ⁓ this where this is off of memory. I cause I remember like diving into this one time. Why? Why did you do that? I don't know. It popped up in my YouTube feed. I just kinda rolled with it for a little bit. I was also very interested. But ⁓ yeah, I mean I don't know why people gotta tarnish something like that, but ⁓ it's pretty funny. ⁓ Yeah. Yeah, there's there's been there's been a couple that I've been watching recently, but ⁓ yeah, I mean these are these are a little bit more I mean they're kinda I guess f a little bit more lighthearted this than like No, they're not. Leave our childhood alone. Right. Well remember Tommy Pickles is the is the leader of babies as he was. He was. Yeah. Yeah. They did they did those. Chucky Fincer is his it's kind of shitty version of Sam Weiss. Right. Yeah, the the first and I'm not afraid to admit this, but the mur first movie I ever cried at was the first Rugrats movie. Because Tommy was gonna cover his baby brother in bananas. Yeah, and then feed ⁓ to the monkeys, which is kinda like fucked up if you think about it. I mean, I get it. Yeah. Hey, we've all been mad at our brother. Yeah, but then then thankfully he didn't, right? ⁓ also one of the other sadder songs is in Rugrats Go Paris when Chucky's remembering his mom. That's kinda I think that's like a a very underrated sad song. I've never seen Rugrats go to Paris. Yeah, I remember seeing it in theaters. ⁓ and that was that was super sad. That not not quite up there with like ⁓ Sarah McLaughlin and doing the Jess song from Toy Story Two. Yeah, she's a little brat for doing that. Yeah. ⁓ My first movie I ever cried was but I remember was homeward bound. Homeward bound for sure. It's either that or fucking ⁓ G Baby getting shot, you know. So yeah, 'cause it was a big s it was a big that was my first like grown up ho. Actually not even grown up, I think I was in seventh or eighth grade. If you didn't cry when G Baby got shot, you have you have no It's not when G Baby got shot. True. It's when Keanu is talking about ⁓ Eddie. Thrust his hands. That's when the water works. Yep. Yeah. I remember that's when the water works. Yeah. So I remember watching that movie, right? And it was like some Saturday afternoon and like ⁓ me, my brother, and my brother's friend were watching it. I think my dad was watching it. And we were all kind of like teary eyed, right? And ⁓ at lunch, and this is when we were still religious, we did our prayers like it Please be with G Baby up in heaven. That kind of like broke the tension of like being depressed about watching that movie. Yeah, it was it was funny. But yeah, dude, that hardball movie, that that was some shit. They don't make ⁓ like they used to. No. No, they don't. Well, I don't know. I just watched Ironclaw the other day. That was have you ever did you watch that one? No. I know it's about two brothers in wrestling. ⁓ it's a true story about the Von Erick. ⁓ so this was ⁓ before WWE and WWF when you had what like you had different divisions. Yeah. The world class champion, you had the NWA, the Yeah, they're yeah, they're all those different regional wrestling. Yes. So the Von Ericks, they were from Texas and the movie only shows five of them, but there was actually six brothers, and they were all into wrestling. And it was their dad who like got ⁓ into it. And apparently like there was this curse, right? It's a really good movie. I had no idea any of this. This kind of like is a right around the same time as like Ric Flair. Right. ⁓ the what is it, the iron chic? Yeah, the iron chic. Something like that. Yeah. ⁓ so this is kind of like right right as they're getting mainstream household names, right? But they're really big in Texas. Anyway, it's just like the most tragic fucking story I've ever watched. one dies because of a hemorrhage in his intestines. He was up for ⁓ world heavyweight champ and he died in his hotel room. ⁓ two other brothers committed suicide by gunshots. ⁓ what was the other one? one one died from drowning and then there was like one other one in there. But ⁓ like just the most horrific like tragedy of a a whole family that I've ever watched. And I was like incredibly depressed after that. I watched it and I was like, ⁓ what the fuck. Did the movie follow like specific the specific brothers or just kind of like Yeah, so like Zach Efron plays Kevin and he's the he's the last surviving one. ⁓ He was on a Theo Bond podcast not too long ago. Kevin Bon Eric also went on ⁓ Joe Rogan about the time that this movie came out. Jeremy Allen White, the guy who's in the bear, he plays Carrie, but Zach Efron's like the ⁓ like the main character of the whole thing. and then there's like one other brother that plays the oldest one, and then another younger another guy that plays. These are kind of like new actors. I don't I can't remember their names. But ⁓ they the director combined Two of the brother story into one character because he said that the movie was already too depressing and didn't want to add another story onto it. It's already dead. It's already terribly sad. And like That doesn't make me want to watch this movie, Michael, knowing that it's just sad the whole way through. Well, I did I didn't know it was that sad. But there's no happy ending? Like at least Marley and me has some fun qualities to it. It's I mean, no, there's really no happy ending to it. I guess the like the kind of happy ending was that they show the brothers in like heaven, all like the dead brothers in heaven, right? And they're finally like together again. Which I mean was ki was kinda cool. It's kinda nice, right? Some sort of catharsis to the whole thing. ⁓ And they do it in a very eloquent way. And then ⁓ with Zach Efron's character, his kids, he's like crying and he says, I don't have any brothers anymore. I used to be a brother, now not a brother. And the kids are like, It's okay, Dad, we'll be your brother, you know, type of thing. So like, God, I'm getting fucking choked up thinking about it. right. God damn it. Terry, leave me alone. ⁓ so so there is like c kind of a happy ending, but I watched the ⁓ The Dark Side of the Ring. Have you ever watched that show? No. So the Dark Side of the Ring is like kind of like those tragic tales from wrestling. ⁓ it ran on ⁓ jeez. Vice, IFC, something like that. Sure. They do like Samoa Joe, I think they do one of Andre the Giant. Like See those are all before my time. Yeah. who else? They get it they get in I think they start early and then they f finish later, if I remember correctly. But they those I think that show did a little bit better of a job describing this von Erich story than the movie did because like that goes into more th I don't know, the movie just paints it like the von Eriks being almost like abused by their dad. like enforced into wrestling when they didn't want to be wrestlers. But that I'm sure there's kind of that's Yeah. That's the same thing with any like great athlete. ⁓ I'm sure Tiger Woods wasn't a big fan of golf right out of the bat. Yeah. No. So like but in in reality all the kids wanted to do that. Like they they sought it out themselves and it just it's painted a little bit differently in the in the movie like One kid wants to be a rock star, right? But then his dad's like, You're not gonna get anywhere with this. You have to join the family business and be a wrestler. You know, when when that wasn't that wasn't how it really played out, you know. But the rest of it seemed pretty spot on as far as like the stuff. I don't know, it was just a little abridged. You know, they kinda like jump all of a sudden like they skip like ten years and all of a sudden this guy has like a terrible falling out, you know. I was too young to remember these guys. Yeah, 'cause it was what, seventy, eighties, I think. Ear early nineties. There's some early nineties in here. Yeah. But I mean I was a attitude era kid. I was Stone Cold, Undertaker, Kane, Rock, Triple H. Yep. Yep. yeah. All those Yeah, these guys, the Rock actually used to train with them. Like bef while he was still getting it together as a wrestler. Makes sense. So he would actually go both of their dads, I would imagine. Yep. Apparently there's some movie about The Rock where the Rock plays his dad, or like or the Rock's son plays him. I don't know. Dude, the Rock plays everything these days. The Rock's gotta learn how to say he's gonna learn how to say no. Good God. He is say no. He is in everything. And then Chris go to Kevin Hart asleep for a little bit. Right. And Kevin Hart's just like standing behind him, like not too far away, like also there, you know. ⁓ but ⁓ yeah. I mean, if it wasn't for watching this though and and doing all the the follow ups on the story, I don't think I would have caught the highlights from the twenty twenty six sumo wrestling championship that's taking place right now in Japan. What what's going on in Japan? Did you just say the championships is sumo wrestling? The sumo wrestling championship is actually taking place right now in Japan. And I and I caught the highlights of ⁓ the twin the twenty twenty six. Well bring me up to speed here, Michael. ⁓ my god. Well I don't I don't know nothing about nothing here. Like I just kinda picked it 'cause I was like, ⁓ fucking sumo wrestling, awesome. ⁓ but apparently it's multiple day tournament. And these matches are so quick, dude. Like Yeah, because they Michael, they're massive. They're the two hippos just going ahead. They slam into each other, man. Like I was watching, I was like, holy shit, these guys got a lot of power coming out of that stance. Like they notice is there's like a it's like do certain sumo wrestlers have different strategies? Like one tries to get out of the way, sidestep, and you know, kind of take the guy that way. Or is it all just kind of Brute strength is just fucking It's brute strength. I just I got it here in front of me right now and these guys I mean like they slap a little bit but it's really like ⁓ the the commentators were calling it the piston moves. Like your arms were yeah, your arms and your legs are acting like pistons, right? So they just shove and they shove. But I saw one dude yesterday pick a guy up, he grabbed I don't know what it's called, but he grabbed him by the diaper, right? Kind of like slipped him over his shoulder. It's fucking wild. But all all these guys, they're all like huge, you know, like like big, big dudes. Do you think that they are sumo wrestlers because they love the the art of sumo? Or do you think it's just 'cause they just love to eat and they need an excuse to say this is why I eat so much? I think because I am a sumo wrestler. To be a sumo, I think you have to do both. I have to I think you have to appreciate the art of sumo. Why is this not an American sport? Everything about this just screams America. Right? I mean, what? I would venture 65% of most Americans are in the obese or overweight category. We can totally take over this. You know? But like I started getting-I don't think right away. I think I think for the first year or two we would lose, but as soon as we figure out the strategy what we're doing, then yeah, they'd be in a lot of trouble. There was I think there was one or two Americans. Dude, this guy's gotta learn how to squat. My God. They can't butt's flat as a board. Right. What do you mean he can't? He gets down in the sumo position all the time. ⁓ that would be so much better for a sumo wrestler too, if you were able to squat a bunch. So so the number one heaviest sumo wrestler of all time, Aurora Six hundred and forty five pounds. Com how tall? ⁓ let's see here. Six three. Okay. Six foot three, six hundred and forty five pounds. That's a massive individual. Jesus. Fucking blots out the sun if he passes you. ⁓ this guy's kind of jacked. This guy's got some definition. Are are you watching? See, this guy listens. You got the highlights in front of you? I'm looking at Asa Koryu. I'm about four minutes in. Okay. From the twenty seventy-six day sevens and through nine? Final day. Final day of the July 2026 ⁓ tournament. Grand Sumo highlights. Yeah, man. Like it's it's fun to watch. ⁓ see, he's got the strategy. Yeah. He's dipping and diving. Okay. Yep, they they they slap. For sure. They slap, they do the piston moves, they like grab each other. Like this guy takes a sumo seriously. But ⁓ this guy could probably play D line or O line in the NFL. He's pretty jacked. I think what I like the most about it though is like it is so relaxed. These guys are not hollering at each other. You know? They're not intimidating each other. They literally just get in the ring. And then just kind of fuck each other up for like 30 seconds until they push the other guy out, you know? I think when I was watching it as a kid, I didn't appreciate it as much as I do watching it now, you know. You know what I really appreciate? The ref's outfit. World class. World class. Dude, this guy is absolutely amazing. That is what the kids call drip for sure. ⁓ wow. Where do I get one of those? Yeah, dude. Like these guys look great. I just want to know, like I wanna know the intricacies of sumo wrestling. Like, why do they have why do they have the little spikes on the front and why do they take ⁓ off? I think it's for something to grab. I think it's for something to grab. I don't think you're allowed to grab it. But they always take it off they always take it off at the very end of the match. Like as like they're they're like the winner and they like take off their little thingies. Yeah, the loser takes it off first. Yeah, I don't maybe it's something to do with Peacocks. I'm not sure. But yeah, this announcer guy, the guy in the middle, like And they all have their hair long. Is that also like a mandatory thing? I think it is. I think it's a part of like the whole the whole get up. Is it just part of the work? Yeah, you gotta do the hair, you gotta do the ⁓ I I don't wanna call ⁓ diapers 'cause that sounds disrespectful, right? But it's kind of what they wear, right? ⁓ the the second heaviest sumo is actually from Hawaii. Cold he broke the roof. 633 pounds. Debut in 1982. Huh. That is a big guy. Dude. I wonder if the ref gets to pick what color his outfit is or if it's assigned to him due to the level of refereeing ability. I don't know. I wanna know like what what I I'm gonna have to do some homework. This might be a deep dive for me in terms of like the sumo world because it's like very interesting. Like, why do they do the things that they do? Like, did they just say like I mean, this seems like they're you know, like the Greeks they give the Greeks the credit for invent not inventing, but you know, kind of inventing wrestling. Mm-hmm. I wonder if this has been going on just as long, but in the eastern part of the world. Yeah, it could be. I mean, this looks this looks More prehistoric than wrestling. Right. Like, see that's what I'm saying. Like, there's a certain aura about sumo wrestling where like it's draped in respect. It's just such a primitive such a primitive thing. Yeah. But like the These guys aren't budging. ⁓ wow. Right. But like look at Get in there, ref, do something. Yeah, like look at look at all like the other wrestling sports, whether it's WWE, right, or Well, that's not fair because that's Well, no, but even like High school college wrestling, more of your classic style wrestling, right? There seems to be a lot of like adrenaline and anger and kind of like that. I don't want to call it machoism necessarily, right? But that ⁓ more of aggressive, all right. I'm gonna kind of fuck you up type of thing. But watching these sumo guys, like they are the most like Buddhist monk looking dudes ever, you know, like that one scowls, you know? Not one of ⁓ yells. You know? They like they don't they don't. I just don't think it's that we'll wait till they start playing the Americans then. Maybe that's why we're not invited. R yeah, maybe. I think there I think there was an American in this one. In the There was one who looked like he was kinda half Yeah. ⁓ but dude, I'm watching this match, it's been going on from not kidding, at least a minute and a half. These are just two big boys that are just resting on each other's shoulders right now. Yeah, they just and they slapped the fuck out of each other. I saw one yesterday. They're not slapping right now. They're just grabbing each other's thongs and just breathing heavy. This one did a ⁓ karate kid sweep the leg. He sweeped his foot and had him fall over. Is that legal? I I think so. He d he This one guy's so hairy. Yeah, man. He's so hairy. Maybe that's what we get into, Pat. Maybe we should start looking at the the sumo world. I'm not a good to be a sumo wrestler. I'm not I'm not I'm not saying we become sumo wrestlers, but I think we could be the intermediary and bring sumo and make it predominant in the United States. You know? We could do some sumo, do some elephant ears. I mean slap fighting is a thing. Yeah, it's true. How is this not big in Wisconsin? I know, right? Seriously. I mean shit, if we're really talking about it, any any there should be a tournament at every tailgate on Green Bay of just this. Fuck. Every time there's a fight at a Walmart, it's basically a sumo. You know? Yeah. I think we could do it. This guy just slapped himself. D have you ever watched ⁓ Midwest Safety? No, is that a movie? No, it's a it's a YouTube channel. It's it's body cam footage of like all the fun parts of live PD and cops. ⁓ dude, this guy just threw this guy into the fucking crowd. That would suck so hard. The two two injured when a sumo wrestling match went a ride today. Not only did he get thrown into the crowd, but then he has to come back into the ring and bow. Right. But see, that's what I'm saying. I think that's why I like sumo so much is because like that guy's not hollering back, right? He's like, I just got bested, you know, and that's yeah. I respect you for, you know, doing that type of thing. And it's very interesting. I'd I'd dig it, you know? It's like the it's like the F one of ⁓ It'd be a weird one to get into a fight with on on the street. You know what I mean? A sumo wrestler. I think I I think the sumo wrestler would be the last one to pick a fight. I think that's kinda like Yeah, for sure. I think no no no of course. No no, he's not looking for a fight, but obviously everyone has their breaking point. Right. Let's just say someone like me was being a prick to a sumo wrestler, trying to get him and after hours and hours of antagonizing him, he finally breaks and then just you know, does what he does. Picks you up over his head and throws you through a window. I could see that. Probably. Yeah. He's a sumo wrestler, I think, is like the the most visual representation of a warrior in a garden. You know? No, there's some MMA fighters like that. Yeah. ⁓ there's there's a they're they're usually pretty calm, chill people. True. Yeah. I think I think if you if you know you can best what, eighty five percent of people, right? Probably not probably ninety nine percent of people. Yep. But then it's also funny, which is this Midwest safety stuff. ⁓ so it's body cam footage, right? Of like all all of like the the funniest interactions, right? Of like this one. Drunk woman hides after attacking hotel staff, you know, or Like police find naked man hiding ten days later in a garbage can, you know? Like it's just I mean He's naked for ten days. Some of these are like wild. Now some of ⁓ are, don't get me wrong, like pretty terrible, right? Which end in fatalities or fires, right? Or like serious stuff happening. But some of the funnier ones are like, you know, Karen gets arrested after harassing fishermen, you know, and like they're total Karen's about it, you know. And they just freak out, so you had to watch these people crash out in real time. And it's just so funny, you know. And it's all here in the Midwest, huh? Most of them. Yeah. Occasionally you'll get one out of like Georgia, right? But most of the time it's like, yeah, just like your Midwest states. Fourteen year old goes nuts after getting suspended. you know. Yeah, these ⁓ she laughed after crashing into a motorcyclist, you know, like her woman shuts down hold. TSA line, like these these are most of them I would say about ninety percent are pretty funny, you know, like just people acting a fool. And now they're on the internet. I would hope to not be in that TSA line. I feel bad for those people. Well, I was having a discussion with my wife last night about this because I was I was showing her the videos. Like, in what state do you have to be to like cause any sort of disruption inside of an airport above like normal frustration with delays and stuff, right? I'm talking about like assaulting people, right? Or like picking a fight with some 'cause that's a surefire way to land on a no fly list. ⁓ of course. You know But I mean sometimes I'm not trying to defend anyone by any means 'cause it's not a defense, but traveling can get the best of people. ⁓ for sure. We're all human. You've you've been You've been there for eight hours, you've been stuck, you've been doing this, you you know you gotta be home at a certain time 'cause you gotta go pick up the kids by from this person. Like there's a there's a bunch of different factors. Yeah, totally. However, that doesn't give you the excuse to be yelling, screaming, and and of course and assaulting. Well said. Especially the staff. But but these ones, ⁓ which are so funny to watch, right, is the people who believe they're in the right. After the offense is already like, so why why did you slap the TSA agent? Well, I didn't. Well, we have video and fifty five other people on that flight that saw you do it. It wasn't me, it was somebody. Exactly. It's like I didn't do it. You know, I didn't you know, then they lie and it's like a whole fucking thing, you know. Yeah. But like that's like it w when when I was going to visit my wife's family, we we were in a precarious situation. Where we did see some aggravation due to delays and people raising their voice, right? But it was still in a in a level of I understand your frustration, right? But they didn't it wasn't getting escalated to the point of somebody throwing hands, you know? Sure. And I think that's that's the line. I'm fine if I'm like ⁓ if I'm if we're just like at the airport and they're like, Hey, your plane's delayed six hours. Yeah. Like I'm fine because I'm I'm not chilling on the plane. Like I could go find something to do for six hours. Right. But if if I'm stuck on the plane ⁓ and you're not telling me what it is, yeah. And it's hot and like and you're not giving me alcohol. Right. Like then yeah, then I'm gonna we can shut me up real quick, I promise. I'll be real quiet in like forty five minutes if you just give me that bottle. Right. Like the issue that we had was ⁓ was a mechanical problem. And everybody was like hollering, right? Like, what's the deal? What's the I'm like the the the the poor person that works for TSA is not holding the fuse in her pocket, going, I just need one more person to ask and then I'll give the fuse back, you know, type of thing. Like it's not their fault, you know? And like I would rather have the pilot go, No, I'm not flying until we get this sorted out instead of it, you know, going bad thirty two thousand feet up in the air. Yeah. I really appreciate that pilot. I appreciate your dedication to preventative maintenance. Right, exactly. Yeah. We're gonna take a pit stop at this Bucky's up here, you know. Like You can't just pull over to the side of the road when you're ten thousand feet up. Right. Yeah, it's it's it's not really an option, you know. But we'll just land right in that strip right by the fucking park. Right. Gonna bring it down safely over here. just gonna everybody get See it one way. All right, you got everybody got you got forty-five minutes to buy the stuff that you want. Everybody back on the bus. So silly. Yeah. Should we ⁓ should we do the Medwest goodbye? Yeah, yeah, we're getting to that time. Is that Michael? I'm still fascinated of why they why do they have to wear these little peacock things on their diapers? I don't I don't know their diapers. I don't know. I'm so curious now. What are the what are the what would you even call that? Peacock things? What are the the sticks on a sumo belt? Here we go. ⁓ sticks on the sumo belt are called sagari, which are stiffened fringe cords that hang down in front of the Mawashi loincloth. They always come in an odd number, usually between 13 and 25, to bring good luck. Hmm. ⁓ stiffened design in top professional div divisions. Sectory. The strings are coated and stiffened with glues, so they stick straight out like skewers when the wrestlow crouches. Lower divisions wrestlers have soft, unstiffened strings. It's also a no-grab zone. They act as a visual boundary marker indicating the right area, grabbing or Touching a wrestler's groin or hitting below the belt is strictly illegal. Shinto symbolism, they represent a s sacred straw rope hung at Shinto shrines. Shinto shrines, that's hard to say fast. Dude, how do they do their hair? ⁓ I guess I kind of get it. Well Yeah, so that's what the sticks are. But what about the traditional clothing of the ref? They say anything about that? ⁓ clothing. the I don't know how to say this. Gioji? Giozi? ⁓ is a referee employed by Yahya. The history, the role of the referee is ⁓ whatever, the Heon period. Huh. Back in fifteen seventy-eight, there was some See? Yeah, that's that's old, man. That's old. ⁓ Let's see, ring names, promotion, traditional dress. ⁓ There are ceremonial costumes, either called the, I'm not even gonna pretend to pronounce those. A flamboyant part of the sumo scene, the kimono wear worn by the raft is a gift from patrons. It imitates either one wore by samurai-ranked officials during hunting parties organized during the Muromachi period, or court. dress worn during the Heon period. The costume has gone undergone a series of changes to arrive at its current form. During the Ito period, a linen Kemshimino, a sleeveless kimono with exaggerated shoulders. In May of nineteen ten, Tokyo Sumo Association made the decision to change the costume to professional referees, the one in current use. However, the tradition of wearing the costumes during the Ito period is still preserved in traditional regional Tournaments. So that's what this guy's wearing is the is the ⁓ the Edo period one. Okay. Okay. so I so if I understand this right, Samurai used to be the refs of sumo wrestling matches. Wow, that's pretty badass. That is makes sense. That's the only one that can handle them. Right? That's pretty fucking sweet. That's like the most I don't know if like a a cooler sense exists. You know? The samurai used to be the referees during sumo matches. Wow. That's a lot of that's a lot of badassery in one. Yeah, the referee of the matches. I mean the ref ⁓ they there's just a lack of facial expressions during sumo. You don't see those guys really make a whole lot of ⁓ faces. What is the sumo hairstyle called? ⁓ mange or chaun mage. Basic top knot during daily training. ⁓ there's a specialized one where the flared top resembles a fan or tree leaf, or by high-ranking wrestlers. There's also the loose, unstyled long hair worn by brand new recruits before it grows long enough to tie up. ⁓ so it is part of it. You gotta grow your hair to be sumo. What if they just say no? You know what? No, I don't wanna. Back to Walmart for you, big guy. What if you honestly just can't grow hair? Right? What if you're bald? Yeah, what if you got bald men can't do sumo? What if you got alopecia? You know, where you can't grow hair? What are supposed to do? Yeah, I don't know. ⁓ looks like some of this comes from the samurai class. ⁓ Yeah, it just kind of signifies like where you're at in the hierarchy of sumo. The the the bigger the bigger thing that you got, the like the the higher ranking you are. So you could just grow your hair out a long time and just be a shitty sumo wrestler? Or are they actually gonna like make sure you cut it on your right? Wow. Yeah. That sucks. I lost yeah I lost the match today, man. I gotta go to the barber. Gotta lose two inches. ⁓ no, that's so bad. Dude, can you imagine going to eat with just a bunch of sumo wrestlers? That is ⁓ all that is that is ⁓ old country buffet's worst nightmare. Who do you think would would close out a kitchen faster? Offensive line, defensive line, or five sumo wrestlers? All I can think about is ⁓ that garbage man movie. You know where ⁓ where where the garbage man becomes the punter for the the Philly Eagles or whatever. I wanna see never seen it, but I yeah, yeah. It was ⁓ the guy from who ⁓ Tony Danza, right? ⁓ he goes plays for Miami and they go and they have a ⁓ chicken wing contest and it's like a hundred and fifty chicken wings or something like that, the O line puts down. So I would say offensive line would probably eat the most. Okay. Fair fair guess. I mean we'll never know. I kinda think in the Sumo Wrestler, just 'cause they're gonna have the discipline. They're not gonna lose. Yeah, true. The garbage picking, field gold kicking Philadelphia phenomenon. It was a Disney movie. Circa nineteen ninety eight. Is that the name of it? Yeah. It's quite a mouthful. I know, right? That's a really long that's a really long name. But ⁓ yeah, the guy named Bubba. He him and ⁓ Tony Danza have a chicken wing eating contest. So that's that's the only I got I got a Disney movie to back up my choice. Okay. O line it is. O line it is. I don't know. Well, I'm gonna try to figure out if I can get my hair to look like the sumo wrestler here. I'm gonna think it'd be a kind of a cool look. I'm gonna go get us some of those ⁓ Those diapers, the the the sumo ones. They look kinda comfortable, man, I'm just saying. They do. I don't know how you're gonna fit ⁓ underneath your pants, but I'll wear ⁓ I'll wear ⁓ over it. It'll be fine. Thank you for listening to another episode of the Common Professionals Podcast.
